Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 331
“I’m sorry, but can you be more precise? For example, other than the car being gorgeous, do you remember the number plate?” Ye Linhan wasn’t confident of this old woman’s memory, but he asked nevertheless. He just hoped to get more information out of her.
The woman took a closer look at the man in front of her and smirked. “Why are you asking so many questions? The girl didn’t seem forced when she entered the car. What are you trying to do?”
She didn’t seem forced? Ye Linhan was startled. Then it must be someone Shen Qi knew. But who could it be?
“Thanks for your concern. I’m her friend. We’re anxious because we can’t reach her, and we’ve been looking for her in this area for quite some time now.”
“Oh I see… I don’t remember the number plate, but I do remember that it was a black car.”
Ye Linhan heaved a sigh in his heart. He really shouldn’t have any high hopes of this old woman, for there were countless black cars in North City. “Thanks. I’ll be taking my leave now.”
He had to call Yan to inform her about it, and ask whether she knew anyone who drove a black car, so that he could get his hands on more clues.
Yan was relieved when she heard the news. However, she was confused as she asked, “A black car? Are you sure she wasn’t forced into the car?”
“I’m not.” Ye Linhan said solemnly, “But if that old woman’s statement is correct, and that she didn’t see it wrongly, then Shen Qi was probably not forced into the car.”
Yan fell into silence for a moment upon hearing that, then she nodded in agreement. “You’re right. There must be some struggle if she was being forced. Since that old woman said Shen Qi didn’t seem forced, then she should be safe for now. However, I’m still concerned before I can make sure that she is safe. Moreover, she looked a little frightened before she went missing. Please, Vice President Ye, I want to see her return safely.”
“You may go back first. My men will keep on searching. I’ll contact you when I have more information.”
“Well, alright…” Yan wasn’t any less concerned after hanging up the call. She tried to call Shen Qi, but failed to reach her. Out of better ideas, she sent Shen Qi a message telling her to contact her as soon as she was safe. She then kept her phone and headed home.
…
On the other hand, Shen Qi leaned against a soft sofa when a servant came over with a cup of tea. “Miss, please have some tea.”
Shen Qi didn’t move a muscle as she had no energy to take the cup. She politely shook her head and said to the servant, “Thanks, but I’m not thirsty.”
The servant froze for a moment before leaving with the cup. She then bumped into Su Jiu who was coming in. Seeing the tea cup still full, Su Jiu smiled and asked, “She didn’t want to drink it?”
The servant nodded. “She didn’t seem to be in a good mood, so…”
“I got it. Go do your things first.” Su Jiu smiled, hinting that she could leave now. The servant heaved a sigh of relief and hurriedly walked off, for she was afraid that Su Jiu would make her sort out the matter. Even though she looked polite and harmless, she could never cheer up someone as dispirited as Shen Qi.
Su Jiu strode in and went straight to Shen Qi. Seeing that she was indeed very dispirited, Su Jiu couldn’t help but smile and ask, “What could make you feel so down, Miss Shen?”
Hearing a familiar voice, Shen Qi raised her head and looked at Su Jiu. “I’m fine.”
After Yan went to another place to make a call, Shen Qi stood up dazedly and left the place. She wasn’t aware how long had passed before she realized that she was standing right beside a busy road. Looking at the moving cars, an idea of suicide suddenly flashed in her mind. However, she was immediately stunned by that idea. She was pregnant after all. Even if she didn’t appreciate her own life, she couldn’t bring herself to end her child’s life as well. That was why she remained on the same spot for a long time, watching the cars come and go.
Until one car pulled in in front of her, and the door was opened. Shen Qi raised her head and was met with a deep gaze; it was Han Qing. “Miss Shen, why are you here?”
Su Jiu was startled upon seeing Shen Qi’s red eyes and the traces of tears on her face. Her lips parted but she couldn’t speak a word for a long time.
Han Qing looked at Shen Qi with a complicated gaze as their gazes hung in the air. After a short moment, Han Qing reached out to her. “No matter what the reason is behind your sorrow, don’t sit here and cry. Get up.”
He sounded like a stern brother, while his caring gaze gave warmth to Shen Qi. She bit her lower lip but didn’t get up, then she lowered her gaze again.
“Raise your head.” Before she could fully lower her gaze, Han Qing chided her.
Shen Qi was stunned for a moment before raising her head.
“Didn’t you hear me? Get up.”
Shen Qi was taken aback. She couldn’t help but bite her lower lip and say, “President Han, even though Han Xueyou and I are good friends, that doesn’t mean you can meddle in my affairs.”
She was in a very bad mood now, and… she didn’t think Han Xueyou and her were good friends anymore. Thus, she probably wouldn’t have any chance to meet Han Qing again. She wanted to be polite to him, because what happened between Han Xueyou and her remained their matters, and she shouldn’t blame it on others. However, if Han Qing wanted to butt in on her affairs, then she would have no choice but to speak up.
Upon hearing that, Han Qing frowned. “What did you say?”
Shen Qi bit her lower lip and turned away.
The next second, Han Qing reached out, held her arms and lifted her up. Shen Qi was shocked by his seemingly effortless move.
“Do you think I really care about you? You’re embarrassing everyone here, and you’re blocking the road.” Han Qing’s voice was cold and devoid of any emotions, however, his gaze was fixated on her.
Her angry and capricious looks resemble the girl in my memory… Is she really the sister that I’ve been looking for more than twenty years? Damn it. Why was I not aware of it? And how did those people mistake Han Xueyou to be my sister? Did she find out about it and stole Shen Qi’s identity? Moreover, why didn’t Shen Qi know her real identity when everyone else knew about it?
“Sigh.”Han Qing let out a heavy sigh with that thought in his mind. “Let’s get out of here first. You look like a mess now.”
Shen Qi froze for a moment. Of course she knew she looked like a mess now, but she was in a bad mood, so she didn’t mind how she looked.
“Leave me alone.”
“Su Jiu, get her in,” Han Qing ordered coldly.
Su Jiu chuckled as she walked toward Shen Qi. She then grabbed Shen Qi’s hands in a friendly manner and said, “Miss Shen, it’s really dangerous if you stay here any longer. Since you don’t have any friends with you now, why don’t you follow us and leave this place?” Then, she pulled Shen Qi into the car. Even though she appeared to be polite, she was firm in her action.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 332
As Shen Qi started to recall… why would she get into the car with her? Since she was with Yan, she should be going to Yan’s place and not the Han residence.
“Mr. Han has some business affairs to attend to, but he’ll be back in an hour. So, Miss Shen, you may rest here while waiting for him.”
“No, I have to go.” Shen Qi stood up. Although Han Xueyou was away from home, her broken friendship with Han Xueyou didn’t make her feel at ease staying there any longer. Upon saying that, Shen Qi bowed to Su Jiu. “You have my thanks today, Secretary Su. Please thank Mr. Han as well on my behalf. I’ll have to go now as my friend could be waiting.”
Witnessing her desperate look, Su Jiu only revealed a faint smile. “Are you sure you really want to leave, Miss Shen? Mr. Han may want to have a few words with you.”
Upon hearing Assistant Su, Shen Qi paused. “A few words?”
“Yes, it’s… rather important.” Su Jiu wasn’t sure if it would be too soon to tell her at that moment. Who would have thought Han Qing had to leave for something else out of the blue? After all, her plan was to wait until she was calmer before bringing up the matter to her.
“If it’s so important…” Shen Qi looked down and pondered for a moment. Then, she looked back up as if something suddenly dawned on her. “I think I know what you guys are going to say.”
“Huh?” Su Jiu sounded a little surprised. “Miss Shen, you know what we’re going to say?”
Shen Qi hadn’t batted an eyelid while she said, “Han Xueyou and I used to be inseparable besties, but now, our friendship is no longer the same as before, so…”
“No longer the same?” Su Jiu was taken aback. “How would the friendship between the two of you no longer be the same as before? Was it because of something you discovered?”
Upon hearing that, Shen Qi swiftly looked up and gazed at her with her eyes wide open.
Have they also discovered something? Is this why Han Qing had come for me this time? Without a second guess, Shen Qi easily figured that Han Qing would stand by Han Xueyou. Even if Han Xueyou was in the wrong, they are family after all. Perhaps, Han Qing is trying to persuade her to leave?
At the thought of that, Shen Qi bit her lips hard. “I’d like to thank Mr. Han for his help as well as generous hospitality. However, I have nothing much to say to him, for I will not give an inch on this matter.”
Su Jiu was rendered confused. She thought Shen Qi had discovered the truth of her birth, but judging from what she was saying, it sounded like it was something else. Could there be a bigger conflict between Shen Qi and Han Xueyou besides her birth? Could that be the catalyst behind their broken friendship?
“Excuse me, Miss Shen. If I may ask, what actually happened that turned the both of you against each other?”
When Shen Qi heard that, she paused, then looked at Su Jiu in bewilderment. “Did you not know?”
“Of course not, Miss Shen. How would I know something like this?”
“You said that Mr. Han would like to have a few words with me, so I thought…”
“Miss Shen, you must be mistaken. What Mr. Han would like to speak to you about is likely not the same as what you’re thinking, but still… it’s somehow related to you and Han Xueyou.”
Shen Qi scratched her head upon hearing Su Jiu’s words. It was related to her and Han Xueyou, yet not what she thought it was. Then, what could it be? She couldn’t figure out an answer, but she wasn’t that eager to find out. One way or another, Shen Qi and Han Xueyou would never be close besties again as they once were.
Pondering her friendship with Han Xueyou, Shen Qi said, “It’s fine. Whatever it is, I’m not interested to hear more. Secretary Su, you have my thanks, but I have to go.”
As she was about to leave, Su Jiu started to become a little anxious when she thought there was no chance that Shen Qi would stay. It wasn’t easy having her here, and she might not come for a second time. So, Su Jiu quickly responded. “Miss Shen, you’ve been in the Shen Family for so long. Have you ever not doubted the truth of your birth?”
With merely a few words of hers, she managed to make Shen Qi slow down her paces and bring them to a stop. She turned around and looked at Su Jiu. “Secretary Su, what do you mean by that?”
Seeing Shen Qi’s interest piqued, Su Jiu seized the opportunity and took control of the situation by saying, “Despite being in the Shen Family for years, you were never their favorite, for your mother only has eyes for your sister. Nevertheless, you’re still expected to be a good sister to the extent that your mother even made you marry someone in your sister’s place, just because she didn’t want to. Considering all these unfair treatments, have you ever not doubted the truth of your birth?”
Shen Qi was rendered speechless. Indeed, in the past, the question had occurred to her whether her mother was really her biological mother. After all the things her mother had done, Shen Qi had attempted questioning her, only to be greeted with her mother’s long face followed by a terrible scolding.
However, her doubt had only appeared to her as a flash of thought, and she had not deliberate on the matter. After all, she was raised by her parents since she was little. Despite the unfair treatments at times, more often than not, they were merely just caring for the family. Moreover, she was the elder sister, and so she was duty bound to take care of her younger sister.
Of course, she had been thinking to herself for countless times that if she had been the younger sister, her mother would have made sure Shen Yue treated her like how she did to Shen Yue. Upon convincing herself that way, Shen Qi felt better deep down. Therefore, she never really deliberated on the matter. However, it was only until now when Su Jiu brought up the matter that she realized things might be scarier than she had imagined.
“Miss Shen, have you ever thought… that maybe… you’re not the biological daughter of the Shen Family?”
Taken aback by Su Jiu’s words, Shen Qi’s body uncontrollably shrank back, only to be stopped by a table, of which her back happened to lean on.
Upon seeing this, Su Jiu immediately walked closer to pull her back. “Come here and sit down. We have a lot more to talk about.”
Soon after, Shen Qi followed her like a strung marionette. Upon sitting down, Shen Qi suddenly recalled the words Han Qing told her in the restaurant after he sent Zhu Yun and Mr. Jin away. He said he was looking for someone, but had no luck in it. Then, he showed her a photo of a baby and an amulet. Furthermore, he seemed like he was always holding back his words. Therefore, Shen Qi started to sense something unusual as she slowly recalled.
“Miss Shen, are you alright? Since this is no small matter, I initially wanted to let Mr. Han tell you himself. After all, he is your family, which makes it more appropriate for him to explain everything himself.”
Family? Shen Qi swiftly looked up at the mention of this word. Am I Han Qing’s family?
“However, since you insisted on leaving, I suppose I have no choice but to tell you ahead, as well as to save Mr. Han the trouble of figuring out how to tell you later on. Miss Shen, I’ll just cut to the chase. You’re not the daughter of the Shen Family, but the daughter of the late Madam Han, whom she gave birth to twenty years ago.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 333
Shen Qi was rendered speechless as she stared blankly at Su Jiu. As those words came out of Su Jiu’s mouth and reached her ears, her mind was overwhelmed and devastated, despite her adamant refusal to believe the shocking truth. Then, she seemingly lost control of her own body to respond for a while.
A moment later, Shen Qi’s face turned pale as a ghost. “W-What did you say…?”
“I know anyone would barely be able to accept the hidden truth of their birth at this time, but the truth is the truth, Miss Shen. You’re indeed the daughter of the late Madam Han, which makes you the Young Lady of the Han Family, whom we’ve been searching for ages.”
Dumbfounded, Shen Qi asked, “What about Han Xueyou? Isn’t she…”
“Speaking of her, we believe it’s connected to another matter. Han Xueyou had probably learned about the truth by chance. Therefore, she had gotten close to you to sound you out in order to make up her own story. Mr. Han had been desperate in looking for his sister all these years, and his men were aware about his desperation, so it was possible that everyone could have been mistaken in haste.”
Upon hearing that, the color drained from Shen Qi’s lips before they turned as white as a sheet.
Earlier back, Yan told her about something she saw coming. That girl might have already harbored an ulterior motive when she became close friends with you back then while you were both in college. The friendship that she initially wanted to treasure so dearly was in fact more complicated than it seemed.
No… it can’t be. With a pale face, Shen Qi shook her head while saying bitterly, “Could you all have been mistaken? After all, I’ve been friends with Han Xueyou for years. So, if you’re mistaken, you should have known from the beginning.”
“I’m sorry. We’re not certain how it happened, but there’s one thing I can tell you for sure. The truth of your birth is confirmed because Mrs. Shen admitted it herself.”
Thump! The truth sounded as if there was a huge and heavy boulder crushing her feeble heart.
So, her mother had already admitted it? What did she admit? That she was not the daughter of the Shen Family? Was that why she had always treated her differently than she did to Shen Yue? Could that be the reason behind the favoritism?
“In fact, despite having found Han Xueyou, Mr. Han has always been indifferent toward her. Although she met all the conditions, you should know that the sixth sense does exist in a family, through which its members can connect with each other. After all, if the two of you are a family, you are probably related to each other by blood. Yet, strangely enough, Mr. Han didn’t feel like Han Xueyou was his family. It was only because she met all the conditions that Mr. Han gave up investigating further on this matter—until he met you in the restaurant last time, Miss Shen. Speaking of this, I’d like to take you somewhere and show you something, Miss Shen.” Su Jiu then rose from her seat. “Miss Shen, please follow me. You’ll understand everything once you see it.”
Bewildered, Shen Qi followed her as they made their way through an escalator. Witnessing the grand and magnificent interior along the way, she couldn’t help but feel ill at ease. Soon, Su Jiu slowly let up her pace as they finally arrived at the door of a room. She then reached out for her keys in the pocket and opened the door.
This room had always been locked. However, Han Qing had specially entrusted the keys to Su Jiu to prevent any unforeseen circumstances, should it come in handy whenever necessary.
Unexpectedly, the keys indeed came in handy. Su Jiu opened the door before entering the room with Shen Qi following right behind. The room was regularly cleaned and well kept, therefore there was barely any dust found inside the room, and it was squeaky clean and shining in every corner. All items were nicely arranged and organized, making the room look neat and tidy. However, the dry air in the room suggested that it had been uninhabited for quite a long while. It was a strange atmosphere…
Upon entering the room, Shen Qi caught a glimpse of the huge poster on the wall, where she paused in place to admire it. In the poster was a lady in a blue dress with a traditional hairstyle that ran down gently to her shoulder. Her long blue dress reaching the floor had nicely set off her slender figure. As the moonlight shone on the blue sea right behind her, the reflection on the sea seemed as if it was sprinkled by a layer of glitter dust, while it beautifully portrayed her pronounced facial features.
The lady was smiling, yet the smile seemed somewhat faint, while her eyes appeared especially cold and indifferent. Although the sea behind her was beautiful, it was filled with nothing but void and coldness, as if there was no emotion felt at all.
Somehow, Shen Qi was reminded of herself when she looked into the mirror. Those eyes… looked like… hers…
“This was where Madam Han lived before she passed on,” Su Jiu suddenly commented.
Upon hearing her words, Shen Qi paused and bit her lips.
“Look at this picture. Is there a split second that you feel like you’re looking at yourself?” Su Jiu suddenly let out a laugh. “To be honest, the first time I saw you at the airport, you happened to be wearing a blue dress as well. Coincidentally, blue was Madam Han’s favorite color before she passed on. Therefore, all of her clothes were mostly blue in color, not to mention her fascination with the sea. I hadn’t seen Madam Han’s photograph at that time, so I didn’t understand Mr. Han’s reaction upon seeing you, Miss Shen. It was only later when I discovered the truth and saw Madam Han’s photograph that I realized you’re the spitting image of Madam Han, especially your eyes and the aura you possess. All these are the most apparent evidence.”
Shen Qi didn’t respond. The reason she hadn’t been able to say hello to Han Qing was because she couldn’t find a chance to do so. Even though she had suggested to Han Xueyou that she would like to treat her brother to a meal to thank him, Han Xueyou had always brushed her off in a panic while saying her brother was busy. Eventually, fate had still brought them together, where she happened to work with Han Qing on a project by chance.
Han Xueyou must have seen Madam Han’s photograph for herself and had foreseen the threat. Was this why she had tried to keep her from meeting Han Qing?
She had many questions that left her wondering previously, but now that the situation had come to light, she slowly connected the dots and realized that what she had just learned surprisingly added up. As such, she couldn’t help but shudder at the thought of Han Xueyou, for she never thought her bestie had been unexpectedly playing tricks on her, yet she was kept in the dark all along.
“Miss Shen, I know this is not easy for you, but the truth is as you can see. You’re indeed the one whom the Han Family has long been searching for. Anyhow, I’ve told you everything that I should on behalf of Mr. Han, so later on—”
“Can I go?” Shen Qi suddenly interrupted and asked.
Su Jiu paused.
“You know what, can I just be left alone here for a moment?”
There had been a lot happening today that messed her mind up like a bird’s nest. She couldn’t calm herself down despite her best efforts, and neither could she comprehend what happened and why it had turned out to be like this. She needed to find some solitude, in order to clear her mind.
Su Jiu understood how she felt and nodded. “Of course, then I shall leave you to it. I’ll head downstairs and bring Mr. Han here to meet you later when he arrives, Miss Shen.”
“Thank you.” Shen Qi expressed her gratitude, shortly before Su Jiu made a move downstairs.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 334
After Su Jiu left, Shen Qi was left alone in the room.
Su Jiu thoughtfully closed the door when she left, as if she wasn’t worried about leaving an outsider with all the items in the room. It was Shen Qi’s first time being here, yet she trusted her so much. The items in the house were expensive to say the least, yet she… Could I really be the long lost daughter of the Han Family?
How was she supposed to believe it? Despite the fact that she wasn’t as favored as Shen Yue by her parents, she had always treated the Shen Family as one of her own in her heart. Therefore, she quickly denied the thought of whether her mother was her biological mother, even though she was often picked on. She had even kicked herself for thinking of her mother that way. After all, it was her who raised her up all along.
When Shen Qi was married into the Ye Family in Shen Yue’s place, she understood that Mrs. Shen knew the sacrifice of one is better than two, since she had divorced anyway. On the other hand, Shen Yue was still in her best years. Therefore, instead of having her marry a cripple, she chose Shen Qi to go in her place, so that she wouldn’t lose anything.
Shen Qi knew what her parents were up to. Nevertheless, she still went ahead and got married even though she felt disheartened. She was driven to the verge of despair multiple times by the events that happened ever since her marriage. Even though she had done all this in Shen Yue’s place, her sacrifices had not received the appreciation from her parents as it should have. Worse, they had even tried to milk her for profits, since they thought she had clung on to the rich. Little had they ever been concerned about her life after her marriage.
But now, someone was telling her that she was not the biological daughter of the Shen Family. Moreover, Su Jiu even claimed that Mrs. Shen had admitted it. Nevertheless, Shen Qi refused to believe the story, for she couldn’t accept the truth of her birth. She wanted to question her mother whether all this was real; she wanted to hear an explanation directly from her before drawing a conclusion.
Moreover, there had been too much happening on her plate today. She had just split up with Ye Moxuan, and then learned about the truth of her birth. It was as if the whole world was up against her at once, leaving her with no time to catch her breath.
At the thought of that, Shen Qi bitterly smiled, as she wondered who would give her time to catch her breath. She then stood up and scanned her surroundings, whereupon her gaze finally fell upon the lady in the poster.
Could this lady really be her mother? Although Shen Qi might have her eyes, it was nothing but a poster, a mere picture after all. Furthermore, it wasn’t like she got to spend time with her. Therefore, she barely felt anything upon seeing her.
If there was a chance, she still wished she was the daughter of the Shen Family. She hoped the Han Family was mistaken that she wasn’t some long lost daughter of the great Han Family. With that thought in mind, Shen Qi stood up and went outside. She had to make a trip home.
Despite her separation with Ye Moxuan, she thought deep down that she couldn’t possibly give up on herself like that. Therefore, she had to pull herself together and stay strong. As she exited the room, she was greeted by Su Jiu who was standing not far away from the door. Upon seeing Shen Qi, she walked up to her and smilingly said, “Miss Shen, have you thought it through?”
“I want to go home,” Shen Qi requested.
Su Jiu was slightly taken aback by her words, but agreed to her request shortly after. “I’ll send someone to drive you home then.”
To Shen Qi’s surprise, she thought Su Jiu would persuade her to stay, but she had instead agreed to let her leave. As such, Shen Qi gratefully looked at her and said, “Thank you so much, but I think I’ll find a way back myself.”
“Of course not, not in your current condition. I can’t let you leave by yourself just like that. Wherever you want to go, I’ll have the driver take you there. If you say no, you’re not leaving. In fact, I’ve spoken to Mr. Han about this and it was him who told me to see you off safely.”
Han Qing said that? Shen Qi could only nod. “Alright then, thank you for your kindness.”
Su Jiu smilingly said, “Don’t mention it. I could come along if you need me to.”
“It’s alright. I just want to go home to confirm my doubts. You don’t have to come along.”
“Alright then.”
Once Shen Qi left, Su Jiu immediately gave Han Qing a call. “Mr. Han, Miss Shen has just left.”
“Alright.” Han Qing’s deep voice sounded indifferent; he seemed calm despite learning Shen Qi had left.
Su Jiu hesitated shortly before asking, “Perhaps…”
“It’s okay, there’s no need for that. Now that she has come to learn about the whole story, it’s normal that she wants to seek confirmation.”
“Well then, shall I… get her back?”
“No rush. It all depends on herself.” Upon pausing briefly, Han Qing added, “Just give her some space.”
“Alright, I got it, Mr. Han. What about Han Xueyou? She is still lying in the hospital for now. Furthermore—”
“She is wounded. We’ll keep this between us until she is discharged from the hospital.”
“Understood.”
After hanging up the call, Su Jiu was touched by Han Qing’s leniency. Although Han Qing might seem apathetic on the outside, he was a thoughtful man deep down. He was able to keep his composure despite the fact that Han Xueyou had lied to him. Su Jiu deduced that the reason why Han Qing decided not to confront Han Xueyou now was probably because of her current condition, whereby he feared for her safety. By doing so, he saved himself from a lot of unwanted trouble. How sagacious and level-headed he was!
In the dark quiet night, a limousine stopped by the junction, and Shen Qi exited the limousine after thanking the driver. The driver stuck his head out of the window and said, “Miss, I’ll wait for you here.”
Shen Qi paused before hesitantly meeting the driver’s gaze. “Thank you, sir. But I think you can leave first.”
She turned around and moved forward after saying goodbye. After a long way ahead, Shen Qi looked back, only to see the limousine still in its place, thereupon she couldn’t help but let out a sigh. However, she never looked back again and headed straight for the Shen Family’s residence.
The door was not locked, and the lights in the house were shining brightly. Shen Qi opened the door to enter the house, only to find Mr. and Mrs. Shen sitting on the couch. The pair stood up simultaneously upon hearing the door opening. “Yue, you’re back—” Before they could finish their sentences, they both paused as their gaze fell upon Shen Qi with their eyes wide open.
Mrs. Shen thought it was Shen Yue who came back, but she didn’t expect to see Shen Qi instead. Upon gazing at her, she blurted out, “Why are you here?”
When she heard Mrs. Shen’s words, Shen Qi slowed down her movement as she was closing the door. Then, she mocked, “Why can’t it be me? Can’t I come back to my home?”
Upon hearing that, Mrs. Shen squinted suspiciously. “What do you mean by that?”
The Han Family sent someone here earlier and oddly enough, Shen Qi is here today. Perhaps this is no mere coincidence that she must have learned about the truth of her birth. At that thought, Mrs. Shen snorted before taunting, “I can’t stop you from coming back home, but I didn’t think you’d still come home after you’ve clung onto the rich. Could you bear to leave your life of luxury behind?”
Shen Qi moved her gaze slightly. “Does that mean you admitted it?”
“Admitted what? What are you trying to say? What brings you back here?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 335
Shen Qi lowered her gaze and stared blankly at her feet.
“Shen Qi, we have always treated you well. Even though you’re not my biological daughter, I have always provided for you since young. Now, your family members have found you, and you have become the Young Lady of the Han Family. You’re not going to forget about us, are you? Of course, it’s fine if you plan to do so. However, I spent lots of money bringing you up, and you have to pay me back.”
Shen Qi raised her gaze and looked at Mrs. Shen in disbelief. She was still hesitant to ask the question when Mrs. Shen abruptly revealed the truth to her. Her eyes twitched as she asked, “So… I’m really not your daughter?”
Mrs. Shen was puzzled by Shen Qi’s sorrow and agitation. Mr. Shen, who was on the side, looked at Shen Qi with a complicated gaze. He heaved a sigh and said, “It’s true, Qi. We’re not your real parents. You were adopted from an orphanage.”
Mr. Shen’s voice was as gentle as ever. Shen Qi took a look at him and realized that he had grown much older recently. His cloudy gaze was filled with a tinge of affection and regret, but his words had hurt her deeply.
She lowered her gaze and chuckled. “It never occurred to me that it was all true… I had always thought that I was your biological daughter. When Secretary Su told me the truth, I just thought that she was being ridiculous. Unbelievably, it turned out to be true!”
“Are you okay?” Mrs. Shen gave her a weird look after hearing what she said. “Isn’t it great that you’re not our daughter? I have gathered some information. The Han Family is no less powerful than the Ye Family in North City. Isn’t it great to be their Young Lady? Wake up, Qi. From now on, you’re the Young Lady of the Han Family, so we, as your adopted parents, can get some benefits as well. And don’t forget about your sister; she’s your sister after all.” After a halt, Mrs. Shen moved over and grabbed Shen Qi’s shoulders. She then continued, “Do you hear me? You are your sister’s favorite, and she has always known that you’re good to her. If anything happens in the future, you must help her, okay? Or better yet, ask whether they need a god daughter and bring your sister along as well.”
Shen Qi was left speechless. “I will ask this one more time… Am I really not your daughter? You’re lying to me because you’re after the Han Family’s wealth, right? Having lived together for so many years, I can’t believe it…”
“What on earth are you talking about? I’m not lying to you just because I’m after the Han Family’s wealth. Besides, I can’t forge your identity. Moreover, you really are the daughter of the Han Family. Even if you’re not their daughter, you’re not my daughter either. Your father didn’t lie to you; we did adopt you from the orphanage.”
“But why?” Shen Qi put on a forced smile. “Why did you adopt me?”
Mrs. Shen turned her head away and said, “Stop asking… that’s just how it was.”
However, Mr. Shen heaved a sigh and told her the truth, “Your mother couldn’t bear a child after years of marriage. So, the fortune teller told us to adopt one from the orphanage, and you were the first one we met. We liked you because you looked adorable, so we decided to adopt you.”
Shen Qi could already guess what ensued before her father finished the story. “However, you didn’t expect that not long after adopting me, you had gotten your own daughter. Am I right?”
Mr. Shen nodded and said, “Yes. That was unexpected.”
“So, after having your own daughter, you started to ignore me, the child who was adopted from the orphanage.” Shen Qi couldn’t help but smirk at the thought of it. “I’d always thought that you treated Shen Yue better because she was younger. I always told myself that she was my younger sister, and I was her elder sister, so it was totally reasonable that I should treat her well. It never once occurred to me that I had never been your daughter!” She still couldn’t accept this truth right at this point.
“Qi, what are you here for? You’re now the Young Lady of the Han Family, so why are you talking about the past? Are you going to blame me for mistreating you all these years?” While Mrs. Shen was exasperated, Mr. Shen immediately stepped in and said, “Stop talking nonsense. Does she look like she’s blaming you? She just can’t accept the truth yet.”
“Can’t accept the truth? Yue ran off in anger upon learning the news. What is it that she can’t accept? She’s going to enjoy all the wealth and glory in the world, while Yue will continue to suffer in this modest home. Sob, we really are a pitiful family.” Mrs. Shen started to bawl when she thought about it.
Mr. Shen was annoyed by her tantrum. “Stop it! Take a look at yourself. Even though Qi is not our biological daughter, we brought her up nevertheless. Don’t you know her at all? She isn’t the kind of girl who is after fame and wealth.”
An idea flashed in Mrs. Shen’s mind upon hearing that. Her bawl abruptly stopped, thereupon she rushed to Shen Qi and grabbed her shoulders. Her eyes widened, which made her look a little creepy. “That’s right! Qi, you’re not the kind of girl who has any interest in fame and wealth. Then… why don’t you give the position of the Young Lady of the Han Family to your sister? We’ll tell them that Yue is actually the daughter they have been looking for instead of you. I swear that once Yue becomes the Young Lady, I will never forget your favor!” Mrs. Shen started spouting nonsense like a mad woman.
Shen Qi only came here to verify her identity. She didn’t expect that her mother would hurt her even further. She looked dazedly at Mrs. Shen as she pursed her pale lips. “Did you think that as long as Shen Yue desires anything that I possess, I should give it to her?”
Mrs. Shen was startled for a moment before shaking her head. “That’s not what I meant… But, you’re her sister. Shouldn’t you give in to your younger sister? Qi, I beg you, give this identity to Yue. She will remember your favor forever and you’ll have a bright future in return.”
Upon hearing her words, Shen Qi had suddenly burst into laughter with a tinge of grievance, and she kept on laughing for a while.
Mrs. Shen didn’t understand her strange reaction.
When she finally stopped, Shen Qi’s expression had changed into an indifferent one as her voice turned cold. “What if I refuse?”
“What?”
“What if I refuse to give my identity to her? What if I want to be the Young Lady? What will you do to me?”
“Aren’t you not interested in fame and wealth? What’s wrong with giving all these to your sister? Qi, I’ve been raising you as your mother for more than twenty years. You owe me!”
“So because of that, you think you can impose your will on me and take away whatever I have? If that is the case…”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 336
“I wish I was never adopted by you!”
Upon saying that, Shen Qi shoved Mrs. Shen’s hands away from her shoulder before taking a few steps back to distance herself from Mrs. Shen.
“This is ridiculous. Before entering this house, I still had a glimmer of hope that you would persuade me to stay. I would have felt so touched even if it was a lie, but… you didn’t try to persuade me. Instead, you even made me give my identity away to Shen Yue. That’s right. I care little for wealth and fame, because what I care more about is my family.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t have listened to you and married into the Ye Family in Shen Yue’s place. Mom, you were right. You deserve some credit for raising me up, but… you have also taken a lot from me at the same time, haven’t you?”
Tears welled up in Shen Qi’s eyes as she recounted the story. However, she stubbornly fought back her tears, biting her lips refusing to let the tears fall.
“You didn’t even ask how I was coping after I divorced. Instead, you sent me away to the Ye Family coldly and without mercy. Do you think I’ve led a happy life after I became the Young lady of the Ye Family? If you think I had a happy life, why didn’t you let Shen Yue marry into the Ye Family in the first place? That was because you were worried that your daughter would marry a handicap and fall into a living hell! So, you chose me instead to endure all these. In that case, I must have already repaid your kindness for bringing me up. Aren’t we even now?”
“No!” Mrs. Shen shook her head vigorously. “We are not even. Shen Qi, don’t even think about getting rid of the Shen Family. I raised you up as my daughter, so it is your duty as a daughter to do whatever thing I tell you to! What’s the big deal about replacing your sister in that marriage anyway? Who on earth would want to marry a divorced woman like you? If it hadn’t been the Shen Family, you would have become a nobody. If you hadn’t married in Shen Yue’s place, you wouldn’t have become the Young Lady of the Ye Family!”
“Then, I’ll give up the title as the Ye Family’s Young Lady!” Shen Yue rebuked loudly. “Do you think I want all this? What makes you think you could shove it down my throat just because you think that the title sounds nice? Have you even asked about my well-being after I married into the Ye Family? All these years, I have always seen myself as the daughter of the Shen Family. Everything that I have done was for your sake because I treated you like my real mother. That’s why I chose to grin and bear it, no matter how unfair you treated me! But today, I’ve finally understood something—my mother is just exploiting me. You just want to milk me until there is nothing left. Then, when I’m no longer useful to you, you’re just going to kick me away without thinking twice!”
“What do you mean ‘exploit’? You don’t want the life you now live, do you? Since you care so little about wealth and fame, you might as well give them all to your sister.”
Why must she give away something she didn’t desire?
“Who says I don’t want it?” Shen Qi sneered. “As you said, it’s the Young Miss of the Han Family we’re talking about. Furthermore, that is what truly belongs to me. I rightfully own the title without question.”
Upon hearing that, Mrs. Shen paused. “Do you… you really want it?
Shen Qi didn’t reply to that. Her eyes turned cold, and the aura that was oozing off her was no longer the same as before.
She came here hoping things would turn out for the better for her, but now, the only glimmer of hope she had was gone. There was no need for her to stay any longer. At the thought of that, Shen Qi turned around and left.
Seeing her leave, Mrs. Shen’s expression changed as she started to get anxious. With a step forward, she seized her wrist. “Where are you going?”
Upon hearing that, a sudden flame of hope lit up in Shen Qi’s heart. However, before she could say a word, Mrs. Shen stated, “You’ll remember my grace for bringing you up even after you leave, won’t you? I’ll just be frank with you—I’m now saddled with debt. You’re now the Young Miss of the Han Family, so, considering the credit that I deserve for raising you up, you’re going to make it up for me, aren’t you?”
With that, Shen Qi’s last ray of hope shattered.
She responded with a nonchalant smile, her eyes void of light. “I know. Don’t worry, I’ll never forget your… grace.”
Upon hearing her assurance, Mrs. Shen rejoiced. “That’s right. I’m your mother who raised you up all these years after all. Alright, you better go home now. Stay safe on the road.”
She paid little attention to Shen Qi’s expression and hence was unaware about what Shen Qi had in her mind. Or perhaps she couldn’t even be bothered about Shen Qi’s feelings at all.
When exiting through the main door, Shen Qi felt as if all hopes were lost. The night breeze blew and stroked her silky long hair. With her dark hair waving in the air, Shen Qi stopped to hug herself across her shoulders. It’s so cold.
Winter hadn’t even arrived yet, but she was already freezing.
It was cold everywhere, without even a tiny bit of warmth.
Upon reaching the junction, Shen Qi realized the Han Family’s car was still parked there. She stood there and stared blankly at it. Shortly after that, the car door opened, and the driver came running toward her.
“Miss, you’re done?. Let me see you back then.”
“Back to where?” Shen Qi asked naturally.
The driver revealed a pleasant smile. “I have orders from Mr. Han. You could come home anytime as you wish, miss. If you don’t want to go home, I could also give you a ride anywhere you want to go.”
Anywhere she wanted to go?
Where else could she go besides Yan’s?
This was absurd. She was a married woman, yet she couldn’t return to her husband nor her maiden home.
No… she was no longer a married woman. Ye Moxuan had already given her the divorce agreement. Therefore, she would be a woman who had divorced twice from then on.
She was… too naïve.
She should have fathomed her situation better, when Ye Moxuan treated her as if she was a filthy harlot. Yet, she actually wishfully thought that she could share a mutual love with Ye Moxuan.
Who knew that it was all a pipe dream?
Where could she go?
Shen Qi raised her gaze and shook her head.
“I don’t know… where to go…”
After looking at her for a moment, the driver suddenly said, “Miss, please hop in. I’ll drive you.”
Shen Qi stood there for a while before finally getting into the car.
After getting into the car, Shen Qi suddenly requested. “Please drive me to the hotel.”
She no longer wanted to impose on Yan, but she didn’t want to go to Han Residence as well. She hadn’t fully accepted the truth, so she needed a quiet place where she could find peace of mind.
The driver hesitated but decided to go along with her in the end and drove her to the hotel.
Shen Qi brought only her identification card with her without extra clothes to change. After apologizing to the driver, she proceeded to check into the hotel by herself.
After making sure that she had entered the elevator, the driver walked to the entrance and gave Han Qing a call.
“Sir, I have taken Young Miss to the hotel as per her request.”
“Alright. I’ll send someone to tail her and make sure she is safe.”
“Sure, sir. I’ve sent the coordinates to your cell phone.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 337
In the hotel room, after she showered, Shen Qi wrapped herself with a towel and curled up under the blanket. However, it was only after her shower that she realized she didn’t bring any extra clothes.
She was caught off guard by everything that had happened today. Therefore, there were many other things that she was too distracted to notice until they had happened.
For instance, she only realized she didn’t bring her clothes after the shower; she only realized she hadn’t eaten anything when her stomach started to grumble; she only realized her phone had died when she wanted to make a call, and she didn’t even have her charger with her.
Ah well, it doesn’t matter. I need some peace of mind anyway.
While contemplating, Shen Qi buried her head in her knees.
Ding dong—
The doorbell suddenly rang. Yet, Shen Qi remained unmoved.
Who could it be at this hour?
Ding dong—
The doorbell continued ringing, as if it wouldn’t stop until she opened the door.
After remaining still for a while, Shen Qi finally decided to crawl out of the bed and walked barefoot to the door. Upon answering the door, she was greeted by a few men who were standing outside.
Before she could realize what was going on, she heard an indifferent voice.
“Turn around.”
Before everyone could react or even saw what Shen Qi was wearing, they were all commanded to close their eyes and turn around.
Shen Qi was still dumbfounded when Han Qing looked away and walked straight into the room. After locking the door, he didn’t even bother to look at her, but, instead, indifferently said, “Go to the bathroom.”
Shen Qi couldn’t help but feel surprised upon seeing Han Qing. “What brings you here?”
Realizing she still hadn’t budged, Han Qing didn’t look back, but instinctively grabbed her wrist and led her to the washroom, before leaving her inside and closing the door.
For a long while, Shen Qi remained in the bathroom, with her mind still filled with puzzlement.
It was in the dead of the night but Han Qing showed up in her hotel room.
After not knowing how long, Shen Qi heard his indifferent voice resonating from outside the door. “Open the door.”
Shen Qi was stunned for quite some time before opening the door. She then stuck her head out, only to be greeted by a bag from Han Qing. Soon, a loud ‘bam’ was heard as the door was closed once again.
When Shen Qi opened the bag, she found a set of clean clothes in it, and was surprised to find that he had actually thought of this.
After a short hesitation, Shen Qi decided to put on the new clothes. Before that, she was still wondering whether she should wear her soiled clothes the next day, but fortunately, she had some new clothes to change into now.
After she was done changing, Shen Qi exited the bathroom to find Han Qing sitting on the chair. He was gazing at the table with a preoccupied look, making her wonder what was on his mind.
Upon hearing her footsteps, Han Qing raised his head, his gaze finally falling upon Shen Qi’s face.
It was only now did Shen Qi realize Han Qing had prepared all the things that she could find in the room for her.
Han Qing rose and walked up to her. Being over six feet tall, he was like a mountain towering over Shen Qi when he stood in front of her, giving off a suffocating intimidating aura.
Shen Qi found it uneasy to face Han Qing, especially after what Su Jiu had told her.
Could this man… be her family? Her brother? Shen Qi was used to being an elder sister, so it had never crossed her mind that she would one day have an elder brother.
This feeling was strange indeed; she just wasn’t used to it.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to go home. You’re free to stay here for as long as you want. I’ve already paid for your accommodation throughout the whole week, and all your clothes have been prepared for you. Your meals will be delivered to you on time every day, and there is a charger and a phone on the table. I have also brought you a laptop, so that you can surf the internet when you’re bored.”
Shen Qi was stunned. “Mr. Han, you…”
She never thought that he would be so thoughtful.
For the first time ever, she felt love and care from a sibling; his thoughtfulness was truly heartwarming.
“Don’t call me Mr. Han.” Han Qing interrupted. With a purse of his lips, he asked, “Didn’t Su Jiu make it clear to you?”
Shen Qi bit her lips in silence. After all, so what if Su Jiu had made it clear to her?
“I know you won’t be able to accept the truth now so it’s fine if you don’t want to call me brother, but don’t you call me Mr. Han either. It would make us look like complete strangers.”
How else should she address him then? Shen Qi cast a look at him while remaining silent.
“Alright. Let’s put all this aside and come grab something to eat.”
Shen Qi then followed him outside, where she found some food served on the table, food that was easily digestible.
As he pulled the chair away, Han Qing’s voice became rather gentle.
“Come sit here.”
Shen Qi cast a glance at him hesitantly but decided to do as told anyway and sat down. Han Qing then scooped her a bowl of porridge and handed her a spoon. Feeling embarrassed about it, Shen Qi looked down and remained silent.
After that, Han Qing sat right opposite Shen Qi, and she soon heard the sound of him eating.
She curiously looked up and, true indeed, Han Ching was eating right opposite of her.
Finding it strange, she bit her lips. “Don’t you find this weird?”
“What?” Han Qing raised his head. “You mean… us? Or your identity?
“The news was too sudden. But how did you manage to get over it so soon?”
Upon hearing that, Han Qing calmly smiled while saying, “Who said the news was sudden? It may be sudden to you, but to me… it’s something that has been bothering me for over twenty years. Plus, I’ve been checking up on your identity for a while.”
Upon recalling what Su Jiu had told her, Shen Qi frowned and asked, “Since the day you saw me at the airport?”
Han Qing nodded. “You could say that. I had my doubts upon seeing you the first time.”
“Aren’t you worried that my mom is lying to you? After all, everybody wants the title of the Han Family’s Young Miss…”
“Su Jiu said you had been to the room. In that case, you should know that you can’t fake the truth for certain matters.”
If that was the case, it did make sense indeed. Shen Qi pursed her lips and asked, “What are you going to do to Han Xueyou then?”
“Her surname is not Han.” Han Qing drew a deep breath and coldly stated, “She stole your identity and has long been lurking by your side so she knows everything. Silly girl, how could you not know what she knows?”
Shen Qi said, “I didn’t know. I had never doubted the truth of my birth.”
Because of that, she didn’t know how Han Xueyou came to learn about this matter. Not only that, she had gotten every single detail correct..
“Well, you managed to comfort yourself even under such a harsh circumstance. It was no wonder you never doubted the truth of your birth.” Upon saying that, Han Qing looked at her, pain apparent in his eyes. “Come on, finish your meal. I heard from Su Jiu that you had a pretty bad day today. So, rest early when you’re done eating. I’ll come over to see you again tomorrow.”
He sounded so natural as if the two of them had long known each other.
However, Shen Qi was still not used to it. As much as she wanted to push him away, she couldn’t bring herself to do it when she looked up and saw the warmth and kindness in Han Qing’s eyes.
After all… he had been searching for his sister for over twenty years.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 338
If she directly turned him down, then he, as the brother, would be heartbroken.
Therefore, Shen Qi chose to remain quiet, seemingly giving her tacit approval.
Han Qing didn’t stick around for too long. He left right after making sure Shen Qi had finished the porridge. Before leaving, he said, “I’ve had some men watching and protecting you from nearby. However, don’t you ever repeat the same mistake of opening the door directly without confirming who’s knocking.”
It was only because Shen Qi had too much on her mind that she would do such a silly thing without thinking through. Fortunately, it was Han Qing who knocked on the door, for she would have ended up worse tonight if it had been someone else with a malicious intent.
Therefore, she agreed and nodded. “Alright, I heard you loud and clear.”
After Han Qing left, Shen Qi closed the door and returned to her bed, only to realize that her phone was already charging. Then, she noticed the laptop that was sitting quietly on the nightstand.
The laptop didn’t look like it was new. Upon getting her hands on it, Shen Qi saw a slip with the login password written on it.
She logged in quickly as if she was under a spell, only to realize some unorganized files upon accessing the laptop.
Could this laptop be Han Qing’s work-tool? How could he just give it to her like that? Was he not afraid that she would discover some confidential trade secrets on it?
Or maybe because he had just found his sister that he paid all his attention to her above all else?
At the thought of that, Shen Qi’s heart began to feel like a mess once again. She turned off the laptop and put it back to where it was.
Then, Shen Qi proceeded to turn on her phone when it was almost fully charged.
Upon turning it on, Shen Qi’s phone was spammed with missed calls and incoming messages from Yan. She could tell from Yan’s texts that she had been ill at ease, so she gave her a call.
It didn’t occur to Shen Qi that it was already midnight until she had called. Who would answer her call at such an ungodly hour?
When Shen Qi was going to hang up, the call connected.
“Hello, is this Qi?” Yan’s voice sounded rather anxious.
As a lump formed in her throat, Shen Qi answered. “Yes, I’m speaking.”
“Is it really you? Are you alright? Qi… you have no idea how worried we were about you. I merely turned around to make a call and you were gone. How are you right now? Where are you?”
“Don’t worry.” Shen Qi calmly explained, “I’m now in a hotel. I’m fine. I walked away because I… I need some peace of mind. I’m sorry that I worried you.”
Yan sighed. “Of course, I know you need some peace of mind, but it scares me considering the struggle you’re going through. And how could you not call me until now?! Where is your conscience? If you hadn’t called me tonight, I guess I would have to stay up the whole night.”
“Alright. Aren’t I calling you right now? Anyway, it’s late now and you should get some rest.”
“No! You have to give me your location. I’m not going to bed unless I know your whereabouts.”
Yan’s words filled Shen Qi’s heart with warmth, so she nodded. “Alright, I heard you. I’ll send you the location after I hang up.”
“Send me the location at once as soon as you hang up.”
The call was soon hung up, followed by the sound of a busy signal before Shen Qi could even react. Then, she resignedly logged into Wechat and sent Yan her current location.
Upon receiving her location, Yan was finally rest assured.
However, Yan continued to tell her to take care of her safety, or she would rush to her room in the middle of the night; it was only then did their conversation finally come to an end.
After a long day, Shen Qi started to feel tired, not to mention she felt rather lethargic these few days. Therefore, as her eyes grew heavier and heavier, she went out like a light after putting her phone down.
However, just like usual, her dream wasn’t a good one. It was so… grim that she just wanted to snap out of it.
“We’ll part and go our own ways from now on. Sign this divorce agreement and you’re no longer the second young miss of the Ye family.”
“Get lost! I, Ye Moxuan, will never even cast an eye on a filthy woman like you.”
“I’m pregnant with Moxuan’s child, but you’re pregnant with a bastard. Qi, if you insist on opposing me, you’ll be terribly outmatched.”
After a dreamy night, Shen Qi finally woke up to find the room filled with brightness as the sunlight had lit up every corner of the room. She weakly touched her forehead and once again found it covered with cold sweat.
She then got up and headed to the bathroom to wash up before taking a shower.
Upon finishing her shower, Shen Qi heard the doorbell ringing. She looked at the time and realized it was already half past seven. Then, she walked to the door and was ready to open it, only to be held back by Han Qing’s words last night. So, she took a peek outside through the peephole and saw no one else but an amiable lady standing on the other side of the door.
Shen Qi paused, before opening the door.
“May I know who you’re looking for?”
“Miss, I see that you’re up.” The lady smiled and flashed the bag in her hand in front of Shen Qi. “I’ve been ordered by Mr. Han to deliver your breakfast.”
So, it was true that there would be someone to take care of her daily meals. She never thought he had really prepared it all, but… it was already midnight when she arrived at the hotel last night. Yet, Han Qing had taken care of all these matters.
Could he have slept only at midnight?
When Shen Qi thought of this, she turned around and said, “Thanks, please come in.”
Upon entering the room as told, the lady didn’t even bother to look around, but instead opened the bag directly. She then took the lunchboxes out of the bag one by one, while saying, “It’s my first time serving you, miss, so I’m not too sure about your preference, but you could always tell me about your favorite food, and I’ll make it for you.”
“Thank you so much.”
“Not at all. You can call me Madam Lian by the way.”
“Thank you, Madam Lian. Other than sweet food… I’m okay with anything else.”
Madam Lian nodded with a smile. “Sure, I’ll keep that in mind. Miss Shen, did you just get up from bed? Have you washed up?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, I’ll leave your breakfast on the table. Miss Shen, is there any daily necessity you would like me to buy you?”
“Thanks for asking, Madam Lian, but I don’t need anything at the moment.”
“Alright, perhaps I shall make a move then.”
“Take care, Madam Lian.”
Shortly after Madam Lian left, Shen Qi suddenly recalled something and called out to her. Upon hearing her call, Madam Lian quickly stopped in puzzlement. “Yes, Miss Shen?”
Shen Qi walked to the nightstand and placed the laptop into the briefcase before handing it over to Madam Lian. “This laptop belongs to Mr. Han, but he left it here last night. Could you do me a favor and return it to him?”
Upon hearing that, Madam Lian glimpsed at the laptop in her hand and calmly stated, “I wouldn’t dare deliver Mr. Han’s laptop back to him on your behalf. Please forgive me, Miss Shen. I’m a clumsy person who does nothing else but rough work all day. What if I dropped and damaged the laptop…?”
Shen Qi realized that she was turned down upon hearing that. However, she soon realized that she had in fact been too unmindful. If the laptop was really Han Qing’s work-tool, there could be some confidential trade secrets in it, which was all the more reason that she shouldn’t hand it over to anyone else.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 339
“I’m sorry for making such a sudden request. Madam Lian, please go ahead and attend to your matters if you’re busy. I’ll return the laptop to him myself later when we meet.”
“Alright.”
Soon, Madam Lian left. Upon seeing her leave, Shen Qi placed the laptop back on the table before returning to her seat at the dining table. However, when she was about to dig in, the doorbell rang once again.
As she walked up to the door and looked through the peephole, Shen Qi’s phone rang, showing a message from Yan on Wechat.
“Open the door. I’m here. Hey, I heard your Wechat notification alert. Just open the door and let me in.”
Shen Qi was rendered speechless.
She peeked through the peephole again and saw Yan standing there indeed. I can’t believe this girl really…
Upon opening the door, Shen Qi was greeted by Yan who quickly hustled her way into the room while complaining, “What were you doing? I heard the notification alert of your phone, yet it took you forever to open the door. Were you not worried about me?”
Shen Qi helplessly cast a look at her. “What’s wrong? I was just moving a little slow.”
Yan entered the room before closing the door. Then, she exclaimed. “Wow, you’ve really picked a good location. This place does have a nice view.”
As Yan walked further into the room, her eyes widened when she saw the table full of food. “Wow, you’re enjoying a good life here… having so much food to eat.”
Being a close friend with Shen Qi, Yan helped herself and sat down. “I was worried you would starve to death, so I came over to take you out for breakfast, but… it seemed like I worried too much.”
Shen Qi sat in front of her and said, “Well, since you’re here, you might as well join in and help yourself. I can’t finish all the food by myself anyway.”
“Sure, I’ll definitely make myself at home.” Yan grabbed a pancake and started munching on it. Then, she smiled and asked, “It looks like you’re back in shape. You were in low spirits yesterday.”
Upon hearing that, Shen Qi remained silent for a few seconds before stating, “What else could I do? Let myself sink deeper into depression? I should have known how it would end from the beginning. It was my fault for having wishful thinking in this marriage.”
As she looked down, Shen Qi began to ladle out some soup.
At the sight of Shen Qi’s behavior, Yan couldn’t help but sigh.
“Let me put it in another way. There are many things that are out of our control, just like love. Furthermore, you two were married as husband and wife, so it made sense that you fell in love with him. Although the two of you have separated, I think you need to be decisive enough to drop him like a hot potato. There’s a lack of mutual trust between the both of you, so separation may not be a bad thing after all.”
Upon mentioning that, Yan secretly took a peek at Shen Qi, before biting her lips as she hesitantly asked, “Who knows if the two of you will be back together a few years later?”
A few years later…?
Upon hearing these few words, Shen Qi couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t think there is a chance that’ll happen. Ye Moxuan wouldn’t even look at me, neither did he need me in his life. He is surrounded by women who want to be Mrs. Ye, and they are way better than I am. Perhaps it won’t even take years, but days for him to have another woman by his side. All this… was just my wishful thinking. Furthermore, I’ll never go back to him again.”
Upon hearing that, Yan said nothing more. As she munched on a pancake, she suddenly felt a bitter taste rushing up her tongue, where she soon realized the pancake no longer tasted the same.
The two ladies then quietly finished their breakfast.
Satisfied with the meal, Yan rubbed her belly as she leaned back and wondered. “Who prepared this breakfast for you? Why was there so much food? I ran into a lady downstairs when I arrived and it seemed like she came from your room. Was it her?”
“Yes.” Shen Qi nodded and said nothing else.
The reason behind Yan’s early visit was because she was worried for Shen Qi, but now, it seemed like she had been worrying too much. “I thought it would take you longer to get back on your feet, but it seems like you’re more resilient than I expected. You could eat so much despite having a hard time.” She sighed.
Shen Qi was rendered speechless.
“It’s great that you’ve bounced back so easily. So, what’s your plan for the future?”
“For the future?” Shen Qi smiled. “Well, I haven’t thought about that.”
“Do you insist on having the kid?” Although the question might sound a little offensive, Yan thought it was necessary for her to ask Shen Qi.
“Of course.” Shen Qi nodded. “Ever since I decided to keep this child, I no longer thought about abandoning him.”
Upon hearing that, Yan was touched by those words deep down. “Your child will love you so much in the future, for you care so much for him. By the way, Vice President Ye has been worried about you. Do you want to…?”
“Yan, I don’t want to give him any hope,” Shen Qi looked up and spoke to Yan in a serious manner. “I have no feelings for him. Furthermore, he belongs to the Ye family, which makes it impossible for the both of us.”
From then on… she had to lead a life of solitude.
“Alright, I’ll speak nothing of him again from now on.”
Then, Yan helped to clean up the table before staying in the hotel to keep Shen Qi company. It was soon noon when Madam Lian came to deliver lunch. However, she was surprised to find Yan there, although she was able to quickly react to it.
“Miss Shen, Mr. Han may swing by later. Would that be convenient for you?”
Would Han Qing really come?
“What’s he coming here for?” Surprised, Shen Qi blurted out her thought before her brain could even react to it.
Madam Lian, too, was taken aback by her question, for she probably didn’t anticipate a reaction like this from Shen Qi. Han Qing was coming to join her for lunch, but she seemed… as if she didn’t welcome him.
Indeed, when Han Qing called her just now, he only told her to convey this message to Shen Qi.
“I’m not too sure about it, for I’m just a messenger. Now that the lunch has been delivered, I shall get going.”
Madam Lian quickly left in a hurry, seemingly trying to avoid her question.
Shen Qi stood there with her mind going blank. Sensing that something was not right, Yan went up to her. “Mr. Han? Who is this? He wants to come over? For what?”
Shen Qi was too confused to react.
For a moment, she didn’t know how to explain this matter to Yan.
This familial kinship simply came too sudden, just like a tornado.
“I…”
“Mr. Han? This surname kind of rings a bell. Hmm? Isn’t this the same surname as that of the b*tch, Han Xueyou? Wow! Qi, she took your husband away, so now you’re snatching her brother away?”
Shen Qi couldn’t help but frown. “Oh, come on. You’re talking nonsense.”
“Did I get it wrong? If I were mistaken, then what is he coming here for? That is the brother of Han Xueyou. Qi, you mustn’t fall for it!” Upon saying that, Yan started to become anxious and seized her arm. “Instead of dating him, I would rather you date Vice President Ye. At least… Vice President Ye is the Young Master Ye’s elder brother. In that case, if that b*tch and Young Master Ye really became an item later on, you would be her sister-in-law.”
Shen Qi said, “Stop talking nonsense. It’s not what you think it is.”

“So, what’s it about?” Yan curiously blinked her eyes at her. “There have been so many things happening lately that I can barely digest all of them. What’s going on between you and Mr. Han?”
“Yan, will you please mind your own business?” Shen Qi helplessly looked at her while putting the chopsticks down. “The two of us are not like what you think, and I haven’t figured out what kind of relationship it is between us.”
She hadn’t made up her mind whether she should embrace this newfound familial love.
Yan complained, “How petty you are! Not even willing to share one bit about your story. Hmph!”
Suddenly, the doorbell rang halfway through their conversation.
Yan seized the opportunity and volunteered. “I’ll answer the door!”
Remembering what Madam Lian said, Yan knew the visitor who rang the doorbell must be Han Qing!
She was burning with curiosity deep down that she couldn’t wait to behold what would soon unfold. Then, she opened the door and found Han Qing standing outside as she expected.
Han Qing was seen in a dark suit with a pair of cold eyes, radiating an aura of charm.
Tsk! It was this aura of charm that made Yan think Shen Qi was blessed with a stroke of luck. Although she had divorced Ye Moxuan, she still had tenacious admirers such as Ye Linhan who wouldn’t stop pursuing her and the handsome Han Qing. Either one of them seemed to be a good pick to her.
Upon seeing Yan, Han Qing stared at her without blinking. Soon after, he shifted his gaze away from Yan to peek inside the room.
Yan smilingly asked, “Are you, Mr. Han?”
Han Qing nodded while pursing his lips.
Yan moved aside and said, “Qi is inside.”
Frowning slightly, Han Qing proceeded to make his way into the room while sizing Yan up from the corner of his eye. He noticed a cheeky grin on the girl’s face, with her eyes looking at him as if she was up to no good.
Could this girl have misunderstood something?
At the thought of that, Han Qing knitted his eyebrow even more.
In fact, Shen Qi had started to have butterflies in her stomach since Yan went to open the door. In her current condition, she was rather reluctant to see Han Qing, for she needed more time to clear her mind.
Therefore, when Han Qing walked behind her, Shen Qi subconsciously stood up.
“You…”
“How do you feel?”
Han Qing naturally put his briefcase aside and shifted his gaze to Shen Qi. He then greeted her in a caring tone like an elder who was concerned for his young. Upon greeting her, he saw the table, where he noticed nothing left of breakfast.
After pausing for a while, Han Qing couldn’t help but smile faintly.
“It seems like you had a good appetite. So, you should be as fit as a fiddle.”
Her mood had probably been lifted as well.
To his surprise, his little sister bore a resemblance to his mother in their personalities.
Shen Qi was about to respond, but upon hearing Han Qing, she swallowed her words from the tip of her tongue.
At the sight of the messy table, she couldn’t help but turn to look at Yan who was approaching.
Oh my goodness… where were all the table manners?
“Mr. Han, please rest assured. Qi had a really good appetite. Plus, I’ll make sure she forces something down even if she doesn’t feel like eating.”
Upon hearing Yan’s words, Han Qing surprisingly gave her a pleasant smile. “Please, be my guest.”
“It’s no big deal.” Yan waved. “We are good friends, so, I ought to take good care of her…” Yan extended the note of her last word as she said that, where she was in fact trying to sound Han Qing out. However, it seemed like Han Qing didn’t manage to read between the lines but merely raised his wrist to check the time with a calm look on his face.
“Alright then. I have a meeting in half an hour. So, I’ll stick around for ten more minutes before I get going.”
Han Qing proceeded to sit down after telling the ladies about his schedule. There were too many things lying on the table. Therefore, Shen Qi secretly nudged Yan’s arms to gesture for her help in cleaning up the mess.
The two of them quickly tidied up the table. Following which, Shen Qi cast a glance in Han Qing’s direction.
“Han… have you taken your breakfast? Would you like to…”
Han Qing gently looked at her and replied, “It’s alright. I’m fine.”
He did indeed intend to join her for breakfast, but his main intention was to make sure she ate her breakfast. However, since she had already finished breakfast, Han Qing thought it was no longer important whether he would be having breakfast.
Watching aside in confusion, Yan awkwardly apologized. “Ah, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you would come, Mr. Han. If I had known that you were coming, I would have waited for you.”
In fact, she was aware of Han Qing’s visit. She just… didn’t believe that the boss of the Han Group would swing by the hotel to join them for breakfast, for it simply seemed like something that would only happen in a fantasy.
Therefore, she didn’t take his arrival into account, which resulted in the unsightly mess on the dining table. Besides, she forced the food down because she didn’t want them to go to waste, only to suffer uncomfortably from a bloated stomach moments later.
“No worries. I’ll leave in a short while anyway.”
“I’ll get you a glass of water.” Yan must have probably realized she ate a little too much than she should, so she quickly slipped away to get Han Qing some water.
Soon after, she realized that a glass of water was too far less decent to be served, so she doubled back and smilingly said, “I saw a café nearby this morning when I was on my way here. President Han, if you don’t mind, I could perhaps head downstairs and get you a cup of coffee with some sandwich. What do you say?”
Upon pausing for a while, Han Qing shifted his gaze to Shen Qi and nodded. “Sure.”
“Alright, I’ll get them now. I promise I’ll be back in a jiffy!”
Getting ahead of herself, Yan left in a heartbeat.
After Yan was gone, the room was left with only Shen Qi and Han Qing in it.
Although they might be related, Shen Qi still found herself in an awkward position, for she was reluctant to be alone with Han Qing in the room.
A silence ensued and was only broken when Han Qing suddenly said, “I’ll deal with Xueyou.”
Upon hearing what he said, Shen Qi looked up and curiously asked, “How are you going to deal with her? Have you all really confirmed my identity? No more doubts? After all, Xueyou’s example was a lesson from history. Therefore, I think… it’d be wiser for you to be more cautious as to avoid mistakes should there be any future misunderstanding regarding my identity. By then…”
“No.” Han Qing interrupted her words calmly with an indifferent look. “This time, it won’t be wrong.”
Biting her lips, Shen Qi looked down and stared at her own fingertips.
“Are you scared?”
She remained silent, lowering her head even more.
How could she not be scared? She was suddenly told that her parents who had been with her for years were not related to her, and because of that, she became a forsaken orphan overnight. On the other hand, although the Han family had come forth and claimed her to be related to them, she couldn’t be more wary, what’s with Han Xueyou’s attitude toward her earlier. She was afraid that the Han Family would one day prove her identity false when she had already embraced and gotten attached with the family.
In the end, who was she? Who could she be?
After staring at the back of her head for a while, Han Qing finally let out a sigh.
“There is a question that I wasn’t going to ask, but since you’re so worried, I guess I’ll just have to bring it up.”
Upon hearing what he said, Shen Qi looked up and stared blankly at him. “What is it?”
Han Qing avoided her gaze; it was apparent that he was indeed reluctant to ask the question.
After all, his sister had now grown up to be an adult.
