The room was shrouded in silence, so long that Shen Qi didn’t hear a word from Han Qing again.

“Mr. Han?”

Wasn’t he going to ask her a question? In fact, Shen Qi had long figured him out. Ever since the last time they met at the restaurant nearby the hospital, the repeated hesitant look on Han Qing’s face gave him away that he indeed had questions to ask Shen Qi.

With Han Qing still holding back his words for what seemed like forever, Shen Qi reckoned he wouldn’t have told her anyway even if she had insisted on hearing him out. Furthermore, she was afraid that they would find themselves in an awkward situation if the question was indeed a sensitive one.

Han Qing said, “Silly girl.”

Shen Qi paused upon hearing that.

“She has been lying to you all these years, so I’m not surprised that you don’t want to see her anymore. Furthermore, you will soon be the young miss of the Han Family. Han Qing’s assuring words sounded so genuinely sincere that they touched Shen Qi to the bottom of her heart. As she felt a lump in her throat, the doorbell rang—Yan was back.

Afraid that she would be seen in such a state, Shen Qi immediately rose from her seat. “Excuse me, I need to use the bathroom.”

Soon after, she quickly made for the bathroom just as Yan entered. With a smile, Yan placed the sandwich and coffee before Han Qing while saying, “Mr. Han, I’ve bought you a sandwich and some coffee. Please accept them.”

Han Qing then reached out for his wallet. “How much are they?”

“It’s my treat! They’re not really expensive anyway!” Yan was shocked, and she quickly shied away from Han Qing.

Although Han Qing calmly insisted on paying her back, Yan insistently refused.

“It was me who ate your share of the breakfast, Mr. Han. So, the sandwich and coffee are for me to make it up to you. I’ll feel awkward if you insist on paying me back. In that case, I guess I’d never come and join Qi for a meal again.”

Upon hearing Yan’s last few words, Han Qing finally gave up the idea of paying her back.

Han Qing had always lived by a principle that he would owe no favor to anyone else, and neither would he allow anyone to owe him any favor. For that, he wanted to pay Yan back.

“Alright. In that case, I’ll count on you to keep Shen Qi company from now on.”

“No worries. It’s no big deal.”

When Han Qing had finished eating his sandwich in a leisurely manner, Shen Qi was still in the washroom. With a wipe of his mouth, he said, “I have a meeting later, so please tell her that I’ll make a move first.”

“Sure thing!”

Yan saw him off at the door, and only closed the door after making sure that he had left.

Then, she returned to the room and searched for Shen Qi. “Qi, where are you? Han Qing is gone. You can show yourself now.”

As the bathroom door was slowly cracked open, Shen Qi stepped right through it and exited the bathroom.

“Wow, so you were really hiding in there. What’s wrong with you? Mr. Han was taking his time with his sandwich but you were hiding in the bathroom all this while?”

“It has just been a few minutes. What’s the matter with me using the bathroom anyway?” Although Shen Qi had already washed off the tears from her face, her red eyes still gave her away.

Yan licked her lips.“Are you still a little sad?”

“No.” Shen Qi turned around and walked directly into the bedroom. Upon seeing that, Yan caught up with her pace. “I want to tell you something. Han Qing looked so handsome even when he was eating. Noblemen are simply born noble, unlike us commoners. Anyway, it seems to me that the both of you look quite alike in terms of your characteristics, especially when the two of you are calm…”

Upon hearing that, Shen Qi stopped and turned around. “Do we really look alike?”

As they entered, Shen Qi was forced to receive them. She then stood aside with her back leaning against the cold wall.

She could tell from Shen Yue’s expression that she was reluctant to be here, for she looked up at Shen Qi with her eyes filled with mixed emotions of reluctance, hatred, and anger.

“She is not my sister, for she is now the Young Miss of the Han Family. How could she possibly see me—somebody who basically has nothing—as her sister?”

Upon hearing Shen Yue, Mrs. Shen’s expression changed and she quickly faked a smile. “I’m so sorry. Qi. Yue is just acting up, for she fears you no longer treat her as your sister. After all, you both grew up together since young, and there is a mutual strong bond between you two. Yue is your sister, and she is even closer to you than a real sister would be. Qi, you used to dote on her a lot back then, didn’t you?”

“Hmph! Who says I need her to dote on me? Mom, let go of me!” Shen Yue shook her hand off and pouted. “I don’t need her to dote on me. She’ll never treat me as her sister again anyway.”

Shen Qi was aware of Shen Yue’s mischief. She had been treating Shen Yue as her own younger sister all this while so she was not surprised to see Shen Yue reacting this way. Calmly, she stated, “She’s right. I’m your sister.”

Upon hearing that, Shen Yue couldn’t believe her ears and hesitantly looked at her. “Sis, do…you still treat me as your sister?”

Shen Qi smilingly said, “Why wouldn’t I?”

Even though they might not be related by blood, she did regard the Shen Family as her own family, let alone Shen Yue whom she had always treated as her younger sister. Although there were times when Shen Qi lost her cool with Shen Yue, the clever little sister would always be able to turn things around by buttering her up.

With that, Mrs. Shen dragged her into the bedroom while urging, “Hurry up! Your sister doesn’t have any class today, so I want to take her to visit the Han Residence as well.”

Upon hearing her mother’s words, Shen Yue started to grow frustrated. “Who is going there? I’m not.” She bit her lips.

“Stop spouting nonsense! We’re just going there to visit.” Upon saying that, Mrs. Shen excitedly smiled. “Come on, Qi. Let’s gather your stuff and get going.”

However, Shen Qi remained unbudged. After a while, Mrs. Shen could no longer keep her smile on and asked, “Why are you still standing there?”

The reason I treat you with kindness is not because I’m your elder sister, but because I see you as my younger sister, which is why I’m willing to put up with your mischief and tolerate your mistakes, and not because I’m obliged to. After all, Shen Yue had always loved to compare herself with others since young.

Astonished at the environment of the hotel room, she took a few more selfies and uploaded them onto her social media news feed, in the hope of receiving more compliments. Shen Qi put down her phone and went about her morning ablutions. She had been living here for quite a while.
