Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 371
After hearing her question, Han Qing went completely silent.
For a moment, Han Muzi couldn’t bring herself to say anything, thinking that maybe she shouldn’t have phrased her question this way…
“Sorry, Qing. I… I didn’t mean it. I just wanted to know.”
“It’s okay.” Han Qing smiled faintly. “It’s been many years since mom passed away, and I have already moved on. Besides, I have also completed the task she gave me and found you, the bloodline of the Han Family, my younger sister.”
With that, Han Qing stretched out his hand and ruffled Han Muzi’s hair, whispering, “Since we lost you, mom’s mental state had been deteriorating. Every day, all she wanted to do was to look for you. She looked everywhere and even went to look for you personally. No one could stop her, so I had to follow her. Later, she became worse and succumbed to depression. On top of that, her body had been in quite a weak state after giving birth.”
When Han Muzi heard what had happened in the past, she felt shocked and bewildered.
“W-Why? Even if I were gone, she should have taken care of herself.”
“Because of guilt. She always felt sorry for not keeping her eyes on you which led to you being abducted. Self-blame, guilt, coupled with all other negative emotions, what do you think she’s going to become?”
Han Muzi was suddenly speechless.
“On top of that, there came another bit of bad news when father’s plane crashed. When mom received the news, she was at a rural village in the mountains looking for you. On her way down the mountain, she couldn’t focus due to her deteriorating mental state, so she slipped and fell.”
Han Muzi’s eyes widened, and her breathing quickened.
“Then, she was sent to the hospital, and the doctor sent us in to see her one last time.”
Han Qing’s expression was as calm as a lake as if he was recounting an insipid story, but standing close to him, Han Muzi could clearly see the turbulent emotions rolling under his eyes.
They stood silently in front of the tombstone for a long time, and later, Han Muzi placed a bouquet of flowers in front of her grave. As the sky darkened, Han Qing asked Han Muzi to leave after seeing that it was about to rain.
After they left the cemetery, it started drizzling as soon as they got in the car.
After the drizzle, the weather became a lot cooler and less muggy than before.
When night fell, Yan excused herself from having dinner with them with the same ‘I’m not feeling well’ excuse. Han Muzi knew what was going on, so she asked the maids to send food to her.
After dinner, Han Muzi and Little Bean played some games on their cell phones in the living room when suddenly, Han Qing sat down and gave Han Muzi a document.
“What is this?”
“Documents for company registration.”
“Company registration?” Han Muzi came to a halt, feeling a little surprised and peculiar.
“It’s better for you to set up a company and find a team to work together. You’re always on your own, and that’s not a good idea.”
Hearing that, Han Muzi couldn’t help pouting. “But Why? Why is it a bad idea? I was like this when I was abroad!”
“It’s a different working environment abroad than it is here. Do you know what news I have received?”
Hearing what Han Qing said, Han Muzi remembered what happened in Su City and curled her lips in amusement. “Someone wants to sue me?”
Han Qing glanced at her emotionlessly. “It seems you are quite self-conscious about your actions. Good to know.”
“I know she wants to sue me, and I’m not afraid.” Han Muzi shook her head indifferently. “Besides, she is wrong in this matter.”
“So do you plan to just let her sue you?”
Han Muzi glanced at Han Qing, suddenly smiling. “Well, I have you, my brother, to back me up, don’t I? I think I can be a little wilful. In the worst case scenario, I won’t make any money from her. No big deal. The contract falls apart anyway.”
“You have just returned to the country. If there is a legal dispute, it will be bad for your future.”
“Is that so? If I can’t become a designer, then I’ll change my course of a career and become an actress.”
Han Qing was taken aback for a moment by her nonsensical remark. Then, he narrowed his eyes at her.
“Become an actress?”
Han Muzi nodded. “Yes. If I really can’t be a designer, I’ll just be an actress.”
“No.” Han Qing immediately rejected her request with a cold expression and said solemnly, “You can’t be an actress. If you can’t be a designer, you can come to my company. I’ll find you something to do.”
Amused, Han Muzi couldn’t help laughing at his serious expression.
“Alright, I’m just kidding. Even if I can’t be a designer, I’m not going to be an actress. This profession is for young people. I’m not young anymore and I sure as hell don’t have the talent in acting. Even if I want to be an actress, no one would dare to hire me.”
Han Qing remained quiet.
“Yeah, Uncle Qing. Mommy is old!” Little Bean added.
Han Mu looked at Little Bean with a vile smile on her face. “Sweetie, what did you just say?”
Little Bean quickly jumped off the couch and climbed onto Han Qing’s lap.
Han Muzi was speechless.
“Anyway, I have solved that case for you.” Han Qing hugged Little Bean while updating Han Muzi about the situation in a low voice. “The company has been set up, and it is near the Han Group. Here’s the address. I’ll have Su Jiu take you there tomorrow.”
Han Muzi uttered, “Are you really setting up a company for me? A-Actually, I think it’s good to be working alone. It’s quite exhausting to lead a team and a company.”
“You don’t have to worry about the team. I have already found the best designer team in the country for you.”
“The best design team? Won’t I have to split the profit with them then? Qing, do you want me to make money, or do you want me to go bankrupt?”
A grin finally broke out on Han Qing’s grim expression upon hearing her poking fun at him. “I believe in your capabilities. I’ll help you with their salaries for the first three months, but after that, you’re on your own. Whether you can build an excellent company, attract enough customers, or build up your own brand, it’s entirely up to you.”
Build my own brand?
Upon hearing his suggestion, Han Muzi was a little stunned. When she was abroad, she labeled her works only with her name, but she had never thought of building her own brand or anything like that.
However, if she really had to lead a team, she would need a distinct style.
Thinking of this, Han Muzi began to feel stressed.
She had a feeling that she would be as busy as a beaver after the establishment of the company.
“Mommy, if you start a company, can I have a position too?” Little Bean suddenly asked.
Upon hearing that, Han Muzi couldn’t help glaring at him, “You are just a kid. What can you possibly do?”
“Hmph.” Little Bean grumbled, feeling a little upset.
“I’ll give you a position.” Han Qing pinched Little Bean’s cheek. “Your mommy will be very busy tomorrow so I’ll take you to my office. What do you think?”
“I can follow you, Uncle Qing? Will you give me a very awesome position?” Little Bean’s eyes lit up, looking naive and innocent.
However, a tinge of cunningness flashed in Little Bean’s eyes, but it was gone after Han Qing took a closer look.
He thought that he’d probably misread it.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 372
After having a deal with Han Qing, Little Bean walked back to his room happily with his short, cute legs. After that, he got onto the chair and looked up to switch his laptop on with his small and chubby hand.
Usually, Little Bean appeared to be simple and naïve, and he would seem especially obedient in front of Han Muzi. Not only was he smart, he was also very collected and mature for his age. He had never boasted anything in front of Han Muzi, and never would he play games on his laptop for prolonged periods of time. However, he seemed to be well-versed in using the laptop at that moment.
Once he logged onto a chat software, a window popped up immediately.
‘Oh my God, Beany, you’re finally back. Did you know that we have been looking for you? Why haven’t you been online for the past few days?’
Little Bean read the message before browsing the group chat. After confirming that there was nothing major, he reached out and started typing.
Bean Paste: ‘I’m back.’
Aeolus: ‘Damn it, Beany is back! Hey, you, why did you show up after disappearing for such a long time? You went missing for three whole days!’
Yam: ‘Beany!’
Fatty: ‘Beany is back! @Everyone!’
After that, everyone seemed to be cheering for Beany’s return like maniacs. Little Bean started developing a headache when he saw that, and so he closed the chat window straightaway. He appeared as if he was used to such situations.
After two minutes, Little Bean opened the chat window again.
Bean Paste: ‘There’s something I need to discuss about!’
Fatty: ‘Look, I told you guys Beany doesn’t read our texts. He always does this, replying to us after two minutes!’
Aeolus: ‘Did we take exactly two minutes to wail about things?’
Yam: ‘Shut up. Let’s get to business!’
Someone reprimanded them before banning everyone from sending texts into the group. Then, the person started reiterating the recent issues they were facing to Little Bean.
Yam: ‘It just happened in the past two days. Someone hacked our website, and we traced them through their IP address, but we couldn’t find that fellow’s background. On the contrary, we were defeated, and that really drove us up the wall. You weren’t around for the past few days, and so we put our heads together to try to figure a way out. In the end, we couldn’t hack into that person’s computer, but we just can’t let it go. The website server is still down now!’
Several administrators came forward and started complaining as well.
Aeolus: ‘That’s right, and after racking our brains, we believe that you’re the only one for the job, Beany!’
French Fry: ‘Beany, make a move now! It’s up to you now to revive the website!’
Little Bean fell silent as he was deep in thought. So it turns out that they were under attack. He calmly opened the website back end and realized in dismay that the back end was in a mess. These buggers… I went missing for two days, and the website is already in such a mess.
Little Bean tapped his keyboard swiftly with both hands, and he was so fast that his fingers were a blur.
Meanwhile, the group chat was still in a heated discussion.
Aeolus: ‘Do you guys think Beany has read our messages? Do you think he went to sort the mess out after reading our messages, or did he not even bother to read them?’
Yam: ‘Don’t you know his personality by now? He is most probably attending to the issue now. Beany has always been this way—cold and detached without saying much!’
That was true! Although Little Bean was a cute and naïve child in front of Han Muzi, Yan, and the rest of the adults, he was a proud, cold, detached mysterious figure of few words online!
Everyone in the group merely knew Beany as a capable person, but they had no clue about his identity. If they had known that the person they admired was actually a five-year-old little brat, they would most probably faint out of shock. Besides, they would most probably be ashamed of their shortcomings in comparison to Little Bean!
Prodigies were rare, but that did not mean that they did not exist! Little Bean had always been different from his peers. Unfortunately, they were oblivious to the truth. Several people were speculating in the group discussion, and someone started cheering in the group all of a sudden.
Rotten Tomato: ‘Damn, I managed to load the website. Could he be that fast?’
Aeolus: ‘I doubt that. It hasn’t even been a minute! Is he some crazy lightning beast?’
Yam: ‘I checked just now, and the website has been repaired, indeed. I suppose that’s expected of Beany. Has he found out who hacked us?’
A second after Yam sent that in the group, Little Bean sent a picture into the group chat. He knew that his job was done, and so he started typing away.
Bean Paste: ‘I just arrived home, and so I will be busy these few days.’
Aeolus: ‘Oh my, have you returned home after your studies abroad? Where will you be working since you’re back in the country?’
Rotten Tomato: ‘Sir, which city are you currently in? Would you like to meet up?’
Fatty: ‘He is not someone you could just meet just because you want to!’
Yam: ‘We’ve known each other for such a long time; aren’t you guys familiar with Beany’s personality? Just go on with your work since you’re back home now. After all, you have settled the matter for us now, and I’m sure they wouldn’t bother us in the near future.’
Bean Paste: ‘Yup.’ Little Bean heard some footsteps outside just as he was done typing that. Something gleamed in his eyes, and he exited and closed the chat window immediately before closing the laptop as well. Smack!
Someone pushed open the room door simultaneously. Han Muzi entered while balancing a white jade plate in her hands. She saw Little Bean jumping off the chair when she entered, and so she smiled at him. “Little Bean, were you using your laptop? Didn’t I tell you that you should spend less time staring at your laptop? You’re still so young, and it’s detrimental for your eyes.”
Little Bean made his way to Han Muzi with his short legs while answering her tentatively, “Mommy, I wasn’t playing. I was just charging the laptop.”
Han Muzi glanced at the laptop quickly when she heard that, and she realized that it was connected to its charging cable indeed. “Such a good boy. Come here. I’ve prepared some grapes for you.”
“Wow, thank you, mommy!”
Little Bean cheered, and he clung onto Han Muzi’s arm to kiss her cheek lightly on tiptoes. “Mommy, muacks!”
Han Muzi was delighted, and she returned Little Bean a kiss as well before handing the plate over to him. “Good boy. Go head and have them.”
Little Bean took the plate and made his way to the other side of the room.
Han Muzi stood up again and took a set of pajamas from her wardrobe before entering the bathroom.
Little Bean put the plate down once he heard the splashing sounds in the bathroom. He then got up, returned to his laptop and lifted the cover up again. After that, he took his time and shut the laptop down slowly.
To be honest, I didn’t want to lie to mommy. But mommy doesn’t like me playing too much with phones and laptop because she’s worried that I’d damage my eyes. Usually, mommy is very busy, and I know that she is working diligently to ensure that I have a comfortable life. I often notice mommy crying silently while observing me. She apologized to me for not taking better care of me. Mommy thought that I was asleep, but I was awake, and I heard everything she said to me.
Little Bean was a very smart kid to begin with, and since he was raised by a single parent, he was even more sensitive emotionally. He dared not reveal his true emotions in front of Han Muzi, and instead, he would always present her with a warm smile and adorable phrases.
I really love mommy. I also want happiness for her. That is why I have to work hard to earn money in order to contribute to this family. Once I am older, mommy won’t have to work so hard in the future anymore. Little Bean regained his previous expression when he thought of that before returning to the table to enjoy his grapes. Hehe, this is my little secret, which belongs to me alone.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 373
The next day.
Since Han Muzi was planning to head to the new company to have a look, she woke up early in the morning.
Han Qing had to go to work, and Little Bean wanted to tag along and visit the new company, so he woke up early in the morning. Shortly after he woke up, Han Muzi couldn’t fall asleep anymore, and so she got out of bed too.
After both mother and son were freshened up, Han Muzi walked Little Bean downstairs to have breakfast together. After that, Han Qing took Little Bean along.
Before they left, Han Qing advised Han Muzi, “It’s still early, so there’s still time for you to catch up with some sleep. Secretary Su will meet you later.”
Han Muzi stared wide-eyed at him when she heard that. “Do I have time to catch up with some sleep? Would Secretary Su arrive the moment I fall asleep?”
Han Qing smiled faintly when he saw her flustered expression. “No, she has other matters to attend to this morning. Don’t worry.”
Han Muzi understood after Han Qing explained. It seems that Su Jiu is rather busy even early in the morning.
In that case, I can crawl back to bed for a nap without worry.
“Alright.”
Han Muzi returned upstairs, and just when she was on the way to take a nap, she passed by a door that opened all of a sudden, and an arm shot out to grab onto her.
Han Muzi was shocked. When she realized that it was Yan, she cried out in surprise, “Yan?”
“So you know it’s me. I felt as if you’ve forgotten all about me for the past few days. Hmph!”
Yan clung onto Han Muzi’s arm while complaining to her. Her hair was a mess, and she seemed to be in low spirits.
“What is it? Didn’t you say that you were ill, and that’s why you’ve been resting in your bedroom? It wouldn’t be nice of me to disturb you.”
“You! You know that that was just an excuse! How dare you use that to make fun of me?!”
Han Muzi cocked a brow at her before giggling. “Don’t worry; how could I possibly forget you? I’m going to the company to have a look today. You should get ready and dress up and head downstairs for breakfast.”
“Head downstairs for breakfast? Well…”
“My brother has left for work. Don’t worry.”
Yan was thoroughly moved, and she clung onto Han Muzi’s arm gratefully. “Muzi, you are the best! I’ll go get changed now!”
“There’s no rush. Have your breakfast after freshening up. We will head to the company slightly later, and meanwhile, I’m going to take a nap.”
After that, Han Muzi covered her mouth with her hand before yawning, and then she headed back to her bedroom.
By the time she woke up again, it was already almost noon. She checked the time on her phone and wondered why Su Jiu hadn’t arrived yet.
Hence, she made her way downstairs to check if she had arrived, and by the time she reached downstairs, she saw Su Jiu and Yan chatting away on the couch. Both of them looked up when they heard footsteps.
“Secretary Su, when did you arrive? Why… didn’t you wake me up?”
Su Jiu smiled faintly at her while answering in a soft voice, “Miss Muzi, I just arrived ten minutes ago, and I just sat down.”
“Really?” Han Muzi glanced at Yan, who nodded along while commenting, “That’s true. But even if you had slept for another half an hour to an hour, Secretary Su wouldn’t blame you anyway.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by her words.
Han Muzi cleared her throat in embarrassment before checking the time. “It’s getting late now. Why don’t we have lunch together before checking out the new company?”
“I had the same idea,” agreed Su Jiu with a nod and smile. Meanwhile, Yan nodded as well.
After they got into the car, Yan hugged her bag while asking, “By the way, which new company are we going to?”
“What? Didn’t Miss Muzi tell you that you guys will have your own company soon?”
Yan’s eyes bulged in surprise when she heard that, and she stared at Han Muzi dumbfoundedly.
“Muzi, are you starting your own company?”
Han Muzi smiled helplessly while shrugging nonchalantly. “I didn’t ask for it.”
Yan was at a loss for words.
Alright, I understand now. Han Qing arranged that for her.
I have to say, Han Qing treats Han Muzi generously, and he has everything arranged perfectly on her behalf. To make it sound polite, he treats his younger sister really well, but… Han Muzi is not a child now.
Adults have their wants and dreams. Having everything arranged and scheduled perfectly somehow feels as if… he is treating her like a big baby.
Besides, Han Muzi feels rather helpless at times, but she would accept it anyway because that is out of the kindness and generosity of her older brother, who has spent the last 20 years searching for his long-lost sister.
Hence, how could Han Muzi possibly have the heart to reject him?
Fortunately, Han Qing understood Han Muzi, and despite feeling helpless about certain things, Han Muzi wouldn’t feel flabbergasted by his gestures. She just felt as if she was being taken care of like a delicate flower. Nevertheless, she wanted to achieve certain things with her own strengths and capabilities.
Su Jiu defended Han Qing reflexively when she heard that.
“I’ll have to be on President Han’s side on this matter. Miss Muzi, after you’ve returned to the country, you would be able to establish and stabilize your position in the country by having a company and your own team. After all, the market in our country is different from abroad. Besides, President Han feels that you’re not getting any younger, and that you should be settling down.”
Han Muzi glanced at her when she heard that, and she couldn’t help but tease Su Jiu.
“Secretary Su, you really are my brother’s right-hand woman. You are still taking his side now.”
“Miss Muzi, I’m speaking the truth.”
Han Muzi chuckled without commenting further.
“By the way, Miss Muzi, have you looked through the information on the team members?”
“Information on the team members?” Han Muzi cocked a brow at Su Jiu as a trace of confusion flashed across her cold and detached gaze. Han Qing gave me the data about the company yesterday, but I think I haven’t read some parts at the back.
Han Muzi took the folder out from Yan’s bag when she thought of that. Meanwhile, Su Jiu commented helpfully, “It’s at the back, Miss Muzi. Please have a look.”
Hence, Han Muzi flipped to the back of the folder and scanned the pages. She realized with a start that there were actually five to six members in her team.
“President Han hired them as your creative designers by offering high salaries. They’ve received awards, and they have some experience involved in designer certain products too. They are all exceptional designers.”
Han Muzi flipped through their resumes, and after pondering, she looked up at Su Jiu. “With such impressive resumes under their belts, do you think they’d stay for long in my new company?”
“President Han spent a fortune to hire them, so why wouldn’t they stay? They would most probably be begging to have their positions.”
Han Muzi fell deep in thoughts.
Yan, who was sitting beside her, came closer to have a look at the folder. “Wouldn’t we lose money by spending so much on their salary?”
“President Han believes in your capabilities, Miss Muzi. He is confident that you’d be able to conquer the local market very soon. By then, with a constant stream of clients, why should we be worried about losing money? Besides, starting a company is not a simple matter anyway, and everything’s hard in the beginning.”
Yan nodded vaguely, unsure if she followed Su Jiu’s explanation. After that, she cupped her cheeks while staring at Su Jiu with admiration. “Secretary Su, you are so awesome.”
Su Jiu was dumbfounded by Yan’s reaction because she wasn’t sure what she said to have earned Yan’s admiration.
Han Muzi closed the folder while sighing. “Forget it. The company is already established anyway, so we’ll take it one step at a time. However… I have a feeling.”
“What feeling?” Yan asked promptly while turning to Han Muzi.
Han Muzi smiled faintly. “I have a feeling that things won’t be easy for us in the near future.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 374
When they arrived at the company, Han Muzi was shocked by the sight before her.
Initially, she was expecting a small company since it was newly-established, and so she was not anticipating such a large-scale company.
Usually, companies which had just started were not true companies, because even if they were, they would be at a much smaller scale; they would usually resemble a cluster of offices in the startup phase.
Hence, Han Muzi did not expect Han Qing to have provided such a large building for her.
Although it was nothing compared to Han Group’s company building, Han Muzi’s company building was similar to its surrounding buildings. When Han Muzi entered the building, she was expecting her company to be on one of the floors, but Su Jiu explained, “President Han prepared the entire building for your, Miss Muzi.”
Yan inhaled sharply when she heard that, and she clung onto Han Muzi’s wrist while gasping. “Your brother is beyond rich, and he is too generous and kind!!”
It’s true that he is rich, and it’s also undeniable that he is generous and kind.
But… he is too generous.
“Isn’t this rather extravagant? After all, we are a newly-established company.”
“Miss Muzi, please do not forget that you are the Young Miss of the Han family now, and you have the support of the entire Han family. Besides, forget about the entire building—even if you wanted Han Group to be handed to you, I believe President Han wouldn’t even bat an eyelid.”
Then Han Muzi suggested, “Let’s go upstairs to have a look at the working environment.”
“The first floor is the lobby, and when the time comes, you can recruit a receptionist and some security guards,” Su Jiu explained to Han Muzi while pressing on the elevator button after arriving in front of the elevator doors.
Once the doors of the elevator opened, the three of them entered simultaneously.
When they arrived at the second floor, Su Jiu gave a short explanation.
“The second floor is the kitchen, and when the time comes, you can select the chefs and cleaners according to your preference, Miss Muzi.”
“Mm-hmm,” acknowledged Han Muzi with a nod.
Who would have thought my brother would act so meticulously? He only gave me a team, and I’m in charge of the rest. That’s a good start.
“The third floor is the offices for the staff. Today… they are all here, and they are waiting to meet their new boss.”
Su Jiu announced that the team members were on the third floor, and the elevator was arriving on the third floor. Before Han Muzi had the time to react, Yan started panicking first.
“Are we meeting them now? I’m so anxious all of a sudden. Will they look down on us?”
Su Jiu glanced at her when she heard that while replying with a smile, “Yan, don’t be anxious. Theoretically speaking, you are Muzi’s assistant, and so you’re considered their superior.”
Han Muzi nodded while reassuring her, “Mm-hmm, I’ll place you in a suitable position when the time is ripe. You don’t have to be so anxious about it.”
Yan suddenly felt as if she was in a dream when she heard what Han Muzi said. Did I get a promotion out of the blue? Yay!
If I had known that acting scared would get me a promotion, I would have pretended more in the past!
On the other hand, Han Muzi wasn’t very anxious—it was most probably due to the fact that she was already anticipating the possible challenges in the future.
When they arrived at the third floor, Su Jiu led the two of them to the office.
A group of people were waiting for the arrival of their new boss. Everyone was eager to know who could possibly have the influence over President Han to hire them at such a high price. Hence, they were in a heated discussion while waiting for her arrival.
Zhang Yu voiced her question. “Do you guys think our new boss is a man or a woman? This is the first time President Han is supporting a person so generously in the industry. I wonder who could it be?”
Zhang Yu had a plain appearance, and her tone was quite calm.
“Do you even need to guess the gender? It’s a woman, of course! If it were a man, why would Han Qing spend so much time and effort?” The man smirked, and it was a silent acknowledgment between men.
That man was Li Junfeng. Previously, he was a rather sloppy designer, and he had a rather promiscuous nature.
Shu Guo’er added, “I think it’s a woman too.” She smiled faintly and continued flipping through the book she had in front of her.
Leng Yueyue, who was putting on lipstick at the side, stopped and chipped in, “It doesn’t matter whether it’s a man or a woman, for it’s fine as long as the person has the capabilities to be a boss. If I find out that the person is not qualified, I will never be convinced and accept him or her as my boss. You guys should be aware that we are an elite team.”
Wang An stared at Leng Yueyue unblinkingly while commenting with a smile as his eyes narrowed, “What you said makes sense, Yueyue. I like how righteous and outspoken you are.”
Leng Yueyue glared at Wang An when she heard that. “That’s none of your business.”
Wang An continued looking at her smilingly.
Xiao Yiyi, who was sitting beside them, did not comment. Instead, she turned around to look at a young man who was seated behind, not joining in on the conversation. She asked him in a quiet voice, “Lin Zheng, what are your thoughts?”
The young man had a white t-shirt on, and his jagged fringe covered his eyes. His head was lowered, as if he was deep in thought, and the sun shone directly on him through the window, accentuating his beauty.
Xiao Yiyi gazed at him while looking smitten.
“Lin Zheng??”
The young man named Lin Zheng finally looked up, and his cold and aloof gaze focused on Xiao Yiyi’s face before darting away swiftly.
“I don’t have any.”
His voice was monotonous, and it was impossible to tell if there were any emotions.
Several people in front turned to look at him when they heard his voice.
The women gave him rather gentle looks, because after all, Lin Zheng was a very handsome young man. However, he was emitting an extremely frosty aura; besides, he seemed to be antisocial, and that was why the women rarely approached him.
Xiao Yiyi seemed unsatisfied when she heard his answer, but she bit her lower lip without answering him.
Just when they were chatting, they heard the clacking sounds of high heels from outside.
“I think someone is coming.” Zhang Yu stood up first and walked to the door for a peep.
Everyone recognized Su Jiu as she was the one who was in contact with everyone. However, Zhang Yu saw two other women beside Su Jiu, and initially, she was stunned into silence. She was lost in her thoughts while trying to figure things out.
Who are these two?
”Zhang Yu,” Su Jiu greeted when she saw Zhang Yu by the door.
“Secretary Su.” At the mention of ‘Secretary Su’, the rest of the group stood up immediately.
“Is Secretary Su here? Is our new boss with her?”
Everyone stood up from their seats, apart from that expressionless teenager, Lin Zheng, who was seated in a corner.
The clacking of high heels got closer, and everyone caught sight of Su Jiu leading Han Muzi and Yan.
Han Muzi did not have sunglasses on today, and she was casually dressed as well. She wore a white singlet with a thin blue jacket, paired with a pair of jeans.
She had her long and silky hair tied in a low ponytail just behind her ears. Besides, she did not apply much makeup on, and so it softened her features; coupled with her faint smile, she looked especially gentle.
However… it gave off a different vibe too—she looked like an easy target for bullying!
“You got it right, Li Junfeng. It seems that our new boss is a woman, and… she looks rather beautiful.”
Leng Yueyue shut her makeup case with a loud snap before giving Han Muzi a hostile stare.
I hate women who are prettier than me!
She’d better be more capable than I am!
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 375
“Looks like everyone is here.” Su Jiu scanned the room and noted everyone was present. When she peeped into the room and realized the aloof youth was sitting at the corner, she announced, “Let me introduce you. This is Miss Muzi, your new boss from now on.”
No one heard the last part of the sentence because they only focused on the part where Su Jiu called her Miss Muzi.
Throughout the years, Su Jiu worked as Han Qing’s efficient secretary-cum-assistant. Hence, she was well-known in the business world, and as designers, they knew about her as well.
However, at that moment, Su Jiu introduced Han Muzi with an honorific; in fact, Su Jiu’s gaze had a genuine twinkling smile, and it wasn’t the type of mocking air they were expecting.
A few people regarded Han Muzi with a different perspective now, but someone voiced out their dissatisfaction anyway.
“A boss at such a young age? Is she really skillful or did she… get here using some unspeakable means?” Leng Yueyue asked scathingly. She was wearing a red dress, paired with a bright red color lipstick, which made her lips look alluring. However, she seemed to be giving off a cold and aloof air despite her sensuality.
Han Muzi appeared unfazed when she heard that, and she didn’t seem angered by Leng Yueyue’s comment. Instead, she turned to face her.
After listening to that comment, Yan felt that something didn’t sit right with that remark.
She realized the problem with a start after pondering for a very long time, and so she bellowed in a fury, “Unspeakable means? What do you mean by that?”
Leng Yueyue squinted at Yan before asking, “Gee, who are you? Why are you screaming the place down when you’ve just got here? Are you our new boss?”
Yan was utterly enraged by Leng Yueyue’s attitude, and she bit her lip before hissing through gritted teeth, “It doesn’t matter who I am. I will not have you saying such things about Muzi. Do you think you’re awesome just because you are in a professional team?”
Yan had a quick and bad temper.
Han Muzi knew about this all along.
However, she didn’t expect Yan to lose her cool over a mere comment. Han Muzi realized that Yan was about to lose it again, whereas the woman who made the scathing comment seemed extremely relaxed. Hence, she sighed helplessly in her heart before reaching out to tug against Yan’s sleeve and dragged her to her back.
“Muzi, stop pulling me. Let me argue with her. What did she mean by unspeakable means?! You are—”
“Enough,” Han Muzi cut her off quietly. “You should stop speaking for now.”
Yan was still fuming, but she was rather obedient toward Han Muzi. Since Han Muzi requested for her silence, Yan pursed her lips while glancing at her, and finally, she stepped aside for Han Muzi.
Meanwhile, Su Jiu had no plans to help Han Muzi out from the beginning.
Han Qing instructed her so specifically. Since he handed the team to Han Muzi, she would have to win them over with her own capabilities because Han Qing believed in his younger sister.
It would have been ignorant if Su Jiu were to meddle in the issue right now.
Han Muzi took a few steps forward while regarding Leng Yueyue. Despite her smile, Han Muzi had a very strong and formidable presence, and in an instant, it overtook and suppressed Leng Yueyue’s arrogance.
In the blink of an eye, Leng Yueyue felt as if her image was diminished when faced with Han Muzi.
“You…” Leng Yueyue blurted out while taking a step back reflexively. “What are you trying to do? Have I touched a nerve? Is that why you’re fuming out of embarrassment?”
Han Muzi smiled faintly when she heard that before uttering softly, “Why are you so scared? I won’t eat you, you know.”
Her words sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
Han Muzi was now giving off a completely different aura and temperament from when she just entered. She was wearing such casual clothes, and so they thought that she was an easy target for bullying. They did not expect her to explode with such a strong and formidable presence.
She even commented that she wouldn’t eat her.
She’s even scarier this way than actually eating someone up.
Since they remained tight-lipped, Han Muzi scanned the room, and her pink lips curled into a faint smile.
“I’ve read through your profiles before coming over, and everyone here is an exceptional designer. It’s my honor to have hired such outstanding talents, such as yourselves, despite having such a newly-established company.”
Your honor? the crowd thought in silence. You don’t look like you’re honored at all.
On the other hand, Yan, who was standing at the back, was about to march forward when Su Jiu stopped her by pulling her back and dragged her to somewhere far away.
“Secretary Su, what are you doing? Let me go, quick. I’m so angry. That woman said such things, yet why did Muzi say that it’s her honor to be able to hire them? Since when has she become such a spineless person?”
Su Jiu glanced at Yan helplessly before asking, “How about you? Since when have you become so reckless? What did Miss Muzi tell you before we came over? She had a feeling that things won’t be easy for her in the near future.”
Yan nodded in agreement. “That’s right, and I understand what she meant now; she was referring to these people. But what is she doing?”
“She’s expected this to happen since she made that comment.”
Yan was rendered speechless by Su Jiu’s words.
“Since she predicted these possibilities, do you truly think that she wouldn’t have a strategy in place?”
Yan realized with a start how reckless she was when she heard Su Jiu say that. Then, she turned around to look at Han Muzi again.
I’m not sure when it started, but Han Muzi has changed; she is no longer the hesitant girl who was only driven by her heart and emotions. Han Muzi is smart, quick-witted, and she shines bright by herself. She is no doubt a force to be reckoned with, but in the past, circumstances forced her to suppress her personality.
However, later on… she started to shine brightly, slowly but surely.
Yan realized that Han Muzi was much more capable and awesome than she had imagined.
Yan also realized that the gap between the both of them was getting larger.
Yan lowered her eyes and focused on the tips of her shoes when she thought of that. She remained silent without marching forward to Han Muzi.
“Ladies and gentlemen, you are all outstanding talents, and I myself do appreciate talents as well. However, I have another habit where I do not force people. Although you are all exceptional team members, if any of you don’t want to stay in the company, you are free to leave right now.”
Several people’s expressions changed drastically when they heard that, and Xiao Yiyi looked aggrieved as she countered, “What do you mean by that? Are you planning to chase us all away?”
“No,” replied Han Muzi while shaking her head lightly. “I have a policy where you guys are allowed to come and go as you please. If any of you believe that I have suppressed your talents, you are free to leave. I will pay you your full salary for this month anyway.”
“Y-You are humiliating us!!”
“I hope that everyone here can understand this. Although President Han hired you all to form an elite team, I will be the one paying your salary in the future. From today onward, I am your superior, and if you can accept that, stay put. However, if you can’t accept it, feel free to leave right now. I’ll repeat it again—I will pay you your full salary for this month anyway.”
Han Muzi’s tone was crisp and solemn, and she looked extremely calm, as if she wasn’t the least bit concerned that anyone would leave the team.
It felt as if she didn’t care about the team.
Everyone was especially furious to be humiliated in such a way.
Zhang Yu rebuked her angrily, “Who acts in this way as a superior? Who do you think you are? How can you look down on us?!”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 376
“Look down on you?” Han Muzi responded with a faint smile when she heard that. “I think you have all misunderstood. Aren’t you people the ones who are looking down on me? Besides, I mentioned from the very beginning that I am honored to have everyone here work in my company. However, I do not like to force others, and this includes both working and emotional aspects. Everything should be done willingly, otherwise… even if you stay put in a company, you wouldn’t be able to produce great designs.”
Han Muzi was most probably using a type of reverse psychology.
Her team members were proud people, and normal methods would most probably make them look down on her or even distrust her further.
“What nonsense are you spouting? We are outstanding designers; how could we possibly not produce great designs just because of you? Heh, I’d like to stay on and see how things work out. I’d like to see if you, as our new boss, would be able to lead our team, and if you’d be up for the challenge.” Leng Yueyue was the proudest of them all, and she couldn’t stand being challenged in that way.
Zhang Yu blinked several times before agreeing. “I am with Leng Yueyue on this.”
Li Junfeng had both his arms folded in front of his chest, and he narrowed his eyes smilingly at Han Muzi. “Pretty bosses are my favorite.”
“Since Yueyue is staying, I’d have to stay too.” Wang An took a few steps forward and stood beside Leng Yueyue.
Whereas Shu Guo’er had the mildest temper among them, and she was really happy with her current salary, and so she didn’t comment further.
Xiao Yiyi, on the other hand, turned around to glance at the cold and aloof youth who was sitting at the back.
“Lin Zheng, are you staying?”
With that, the entire group turned around and focused on him.
It wasn’t until that instant that Han Muzi noticed the young man sitting at the back of the room. He finally looked up, presenting his sunken and handsome face. He had an expressionless gaze while grunting an acknowledgement.
After that, he got up and made his way to another room alone.
Everybody was dumbfounded by his reaction.
Su Jiu approached Han Muzi when she witnessed that. “That guy is Lin Zheng, and he is the most talented member in the group, but he has a very odd personality.”
“Odd?” Han Muzi cocked a brow in curiosity. She recalled the young man’s cold and aloof gaze, and he seemed exceptionally stubborn. “What do you mean by odd?”
Yan approached them as well out of interest.
“Instead of proud, describing him as being antisocial might be a more apt description. He does not socialize with others, and before I found him, he had been going on with his business alone. I thought that he wouldn’t accept the invitation from Han Group, but he actually accepted the job after getting to know the salary.”
Han Muzi nodded in enlightenment after hearing that.
“I understand now.”
Yan was still cupping her cheeks while she commented, “Although he has an odd personality, he is very good-looking.”
Xiao Yiyi, who was nearby, interrupted when she overheard Yan. “I’m warning you; Lin Zheng is mine, and you’re not allowed to fight me for him!”
With that, she turned around and marched in the direction where Lin Zheng disappeared just now. She called out for him while chasing after him, “Lin Zheng, wait for me!”
“That person is Xiao Yiyi, and you guys have gone through her profile. She approached me because Lin Zheng decided to join the company… so she decided to join as well.”
“Uh…” Yan paused in astonishment, and she realized with a start after Su Jiu’s explanation. “She’s pursuing him, I see! She must be rather infatuated with him to pursue him by joining a company.” Yan stared after Xiao Yiyi’s back view in envy after saying that.
Why is she so brave to pursue her dream guy?
But when I see my dream guy, why am I scared witless like a mouse facing a cat, and I always run off? Besides… my dream guy might not even know why I am running away. It’s like I’m creating my own drama.
Yan felt distressed when she thought of that.
Wouldn’t it be great if I have half of, or even a bit of, Xiao Yiyi’s courage? Yan thought in her heart.
“Alright, you guys should go back to your work. The company has just started, and you might be rather free for the first few days, and so, ladies and gentlemen, feel free to search for some inspiration during this period.”
Su Jiu smiled politely. “Miss Muzi, let me bring you to visit the rest of the building.”
“Mm-hmm.” Han Muzi nodded and followed Su Jiu, and they left the staff office.
The fourth floor had a conference room and reception room; they were a specially-designed area.
“The fifth floor is your office.”
When they arrived at the fifth floor, Han Muzi realized that the renovation was different from the rest of the building because everything felt fresh and elegant. Besides, the carpet had intricate and unique colors as well.
“President Han designed this floor in person because he wanted it to be a space where you could feel at ease and relaxed, Miss Muzi. President Han mentioned that be it at work or home, you shouldn’t feel too pressured.”
Hearing this, Han Muzi seemed to have sensed something.
“Well, how long has this company been in preparation?”
Su Jiu was stunned to silence for quite a while when she heard that because she instinctively knew that she had revealed too much. Hence, she shook her head without answering Han Muzi.
In all honesty, without Su Jiu answering her, Han Muzi could tell from the designs that it must have taken a very long time to achieve this look. Furthermore, it was impossible to get such a large building ready within a short period. Han Qing must have been preparing since two years ago for her to start a new company.
Without me realizing, Han Qing has done so much for me.
My brother takes such meticulous care of me.
“I’m going in to have a look.”
“Me too!”
Yan followed Han Muzi from behind.
After pondering for a while, Su Jiu broke the silence. “We’ve covered pretty much the entire building, and you’ve met everyone, Miss Muzi. There are other things to attend to in the company, and so I’ll be heading back now.”
Han Muzi nodded when she heard that. “Thank you so much for your help, Secretary Su. Please have a safe journey back.”
“Sure,” replied Su Jiu.
“Also, please address me as Muzi in the future. It’s rather awkward when you address me as ‘Miss’.”
Su Jiu was stumped for a second before answering, “I don’t think that’s appropriate.”
“Hey, why isn’t it appropriate? Muzi isn’t that type of power-crazed person. Besides, we’ve known each other for so many years. Don’t you see me calling her by her name too?”
Han Muzi nodded with a smile. “Yan is right.”
“Alright, then, Miss Muzi.”
“Whoa, there you are with Miss Muzi again!”
Su Jiu was rendered speechless by Yan’s sudden reaction, and so she called out with a quick laugh, “Muzi!”
“Su Jiu.”
After that, the three of them exchanged glances before bursting into fits of giggles.
Once Su Jiu was gone, Han Muzi and Yan were left to stroll the building by themselves.
There was a couch made of real leather, and it didn’t just feel luxurious to the touch; in fact, it felt comfortable while sitting on it. Hence, Yan took her shoes off, jumped onto the couch, and started rolling around. “Muzi, sometimes, I’m really envious and jealous of you. There are such vast differences between the lives of humans. You have such a nice brother, who treats you well, and he is even more considerate than a boyfriend! Sigh, I’m so jealous!”
Han Muzi smiled lightly without replying to her, and she went ahead to take a seat at her office desk.
“By the way, Muzi, why did you say those things to them just now? Weren’t you afraid that they might just leave on a whim? If that happened, you would have ended up paying their salary for nothing.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 377
Han Muzi looked up at Yan, who was still rolling around on the couch.
“Yan, I’m not reprimanding you, but don’t you realize that you’ve stopped using your mind recently?”
Yan looked hurt, and she paused for a long time before replying to her, “That’s a personal attack. Are you saying that I am stupid?” Yan pouted. “Do you think that I don’t want to think things through? In the past, I was able to analyze situations, but later on, I realized that my mind just couldn’t keep up with yours. Tell me, how can a person change so much? Forget that you are now smarter, but why do I feel as if I’m becoming more stupid?”
Han Muzi was stumped by her sudden revelation.
“In any case, you should feel free to treat me like a fool because I don’t want to think further anyway. Right now, I’m just living my life from a day-to-day basis while waiting for my death, and I think that it’s not bad at all. Sigh, just tell me your thoughts at that moment. Everyone in the team was hired with a high salary; what would you have done if they had left just now?”
“They would never,” Han Muzi answered unwaveringly.
“Why?” Yan asked incredulously.
“They aren’t normal people,” Han Muzi glanced at Yan before continuing with her explanation. “They are all exceptional designers. However, I’ve gone through their resumes, and they might have a successful and outstanding portfolio, but they are still new to the industry, and that’s why they are rather arrogant. As long as I make things sound unpalatable, it would stir up some rebellious behavior and mentality in them. Even if they wanted to leave the company, they wouldn’t be able to accept the fact that they would be receiving their salaries without doing any work because they would end up looking down upon themselves.”
Yan stood up abruptly when she heard that while staring unblinkingly at Han Muzi, and her gaze looked as if she might swallow her whole.
“What are you doing?” Han Muzi glanced at Yan in amusement.
Yan continued staring at Han Muzi with a somber expression. “Muzi, I just realized that you’ve changed, and you are completely different from before. In the past, you were—”
“The past is in the past,” Han Muzi cut Yan off before she could finish her sentence, as if she knew what was coming. “Let’s not talk about it anymore.”
Yan realized with horror that she almost blurted out unspeakable things, and so she nodded earnestly.
The two of them hung out in the company for a while longer before leaving.
Since the company was just established, Han Muzi had to pick a name for it as well as the founding date.
After Han Muzi and Yan got into the car and left, Zhang Yu walked back to the crowd after observing them from the window.
“Their car is nothing to shout about, and here I was, wondering how rich she is, but apparently she’s driving a Volkswagen.”
“Volkswagen?” Leng Yueyue cocked a brow incredulously. “How much is that car? if she has the money to start a company, doesn’t she have the money to buy a car?”
“Han Qing started the company for her. I guess she can’t afford to buy a car, and so she had no choice but to get a Volkswagen to keep up appearances.” Zhang Yu seemed gentle and docile, but her sharp comments contradicted her appearance.
Shu Guo’er pushed her glasses up without saying anything.
Meanwhile, Li Junfeng propped his chin with his hand while commenting, “But that woman is rather ruthless. She knows our weaknesses, and she managed to get us all to stay on in the company. Before meeting her, I thought that many would quit today.”
With that, Li Junfeng squinted while scanning others in the room with a smile.
“Heh.” Leng Yueyue smirked. “Why should we leave? Wouldn’t she look down on us even more if we did? Leaving straight away with a high-paying salary without working a day—we wouldn’t know what others in our profession might say behind our backs.”
Shu Guo’er nodded in agreement when she heard that, and she added, “I agree. Since we signed a contract, and we’ve been paid with our salary, it would be rather unprofessional for us to just leave like that.”
Wang An chipped in suddenly, “Well, professionalism is one thing, but we should just work here for the next few months since we’ve received our salary. That woman seemed capable enough; besides, we can observe her for a few months to find out how skillful she is.”
Li Junfeng clucked his tongue. “Why does this sound dirty in my mind?”
Leng Yueyue glared at Li Junfeng vehemently. Such a disgusting, wretched scoundrel!
Wang An scolded Li Junfeng since he noticed that Leng Yueyue was enraged by him. “Can you keep your disgusting thoughts to yourself and not voice it out?”
“What, now? You are a man too—can’t I be blunt? We are all adults here; what is wrong with voicing my thoughts?”
After saying that, Li Junfeng glanced at Leng Yueyue, who was still fuming. “My dear beautiful Yueyue, can I invite you for dinner tonight?”
Leng Yueyue clucked her tongue before retorting, “Who do you think you are? Shouldn’t you check your reflection on the mirror to see if you are worthy?”
Li Junfeng seemed unfazed by her anger as he continued smiling gleefully.
“That’s right!” Wang An responded accordingly to Leng Yueyue’s emotions because he was pursuing her. Hence, Wang An was displeased when he saw Li Junfeng asking her out for a date, and he growled angrily, “Just look at yourself; Yueyue wouldn’t fall for someone like you.”
“Hey, just look at you, shooting off your mouth. Could she fall for you, then?” Li Junfeng bit back in a mean tone, and Wang An’s expression soured immediately.
“Enough. Stop fighting, the two of you,” Shu Guo’er advised them helplessly. “There isn’t much to do today, anyway.”
“Why don’t we get together tonight and have dinner together?”
“Sure, sure. Lin Zheng, let’s go together,” Xiao Yiyi exclaimed excitedly while nodding eagerly as she glanced at Lin Zheng happily.
However, Lin Zheng did not respond at all.
“Well, Yiyi, aren’t you exhausted trying to pursue him? Just look at his antisocial behavior; you should stop talking to him.”
“What has that got to do with you? I’ll do as I please.”
“Tsk, I just wanted to help you since you look so adorable. I just don’t want you to be held back by an expressionless stone.”
…
There were many things to sort out in a new company.
Although Han Muzi had no plans of starting a new company, since there was now one which belonged to her, she had to do her best to sort things out.
First of all, there was the issue of hiring staff for the company, because Han Qing merely prepared an elite team for her, but he left the rest of it to her.
As Han Muzi’s assistant, Yan volunteered for the task.
“We should hire a receptionist or two to work shifts; as for security, chefs and cleaning staff, we can get them from a recruiting market. They should have a large pool of people we can choose from.”
“Mm-hmm.” Han Muzi nodded in agreement. “I’ll let you deal with that.”
“No worries, I’ll get it sorted,” answered Yan.
After that, Yan went ahead to sort things out because Han Muzi had other things to attend to, and so they went their separate ways.
Three days flew by quickly, and Yan finally filled the positions, whereas Han Muzi settled certain matters as well.
Han Muzi was meticulous because she personally looked through the information of the staff Yan found. After she confirmed that they seemed suited for the job, only then did she allow them to sign a contract for a probation period.
Another day went by in a flash. It was getting late, but Han Muzi was still busy typing a proposal on her computer. Little Bean reminded her from behind while observing her, “Mommy, it’s getting late. It’s time for bed.”
Han Muzi didn’t even turn around when she heard that. “Mm-hmm. Go ahead and sleep first, Little Bean. I will join you later.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 378
Little Bean seemed disappointed when he heard that, but he didn’t go to bed obediently. On the contrary, he got off the bed to put on his slippers, and then he went downstairs to pour a cup of milk for Han Muzi.
“Mommy.’
Han Muzi got a whiff of the aroma of the milk, and she realized with a start that Little Bean had poured a glass of milk for her. She was stunned for a while before looking up at Little Bean. She noted that his pitch-black eyes were staring at her unblinkingly.
His eyes seemed to be conveying a message to her. Mommy, please pay attention to me. I’m feeling lonely.
For the past few days, Han Muzi had been kept busy with work, and she worked late into the night almost on a daily basis. In fact, she would continue working the moment she woke up in the morning. She seemed to have… neglected Little Bean’s feelings.
When she thought of that, Han Muzi realized suddenly that she shouldn’t have done that.
She did not accept the glass of milk directly, and instead, she saved all the files she was working on in the computer. After shutting the laptop down, she turned to face Little Bean and reached out slowly to accept the glass of milk from him. “I’m so sorry, Little Bean. I’ve been so preoccupied for the past two days that I forgot to look after you. I’m so sorry.”
Han Muzi hugged Little Bean’s shoulders while soothing him, and she pulled his small body into a tight embrace.
Little Bean reached out to wrap his arms around Han Muzi’s neck when he got closer to her. “Mommy, don’t worry. I know that you are busy, and I don’t mind at all,” whispered Little Bean.
“You might not mind, but I do. I should have realized that earlier, and from now on, I will not work at night to keep you company instead.”
Although Little Bean claimed that he didn’t mind, his eyes shone brilliantly when Han Muzi mentioned that she’d make time to keep him company. He’s a child after all, and he needs the attention of his parents.
He doesn’t have the love of a father, and so he can’t possibly miss out on the love from his mother.
Han Muzi passed the glass of milk back to him. “I don’t need the milk. Since you poured this glass of milk, Little Bean, why don’t you have it?”
Little Bean blinked several times before remarking, “But mommy, I poured it specifically for you.”
When she heard that he poured the glass of milk for her, Han Muzi felt obliged to finish the glass of milk, and so she nodded. “Alright, I’ll have it.”
After Han Muzi was done with the glass of milk, she picked Little Bean up and walked back to his bed. “I shall stop working for tonight, and I’ll accompany you. Would you like me to tell you some bedtime stories?”
Little Bean nodded eagerly. “Of course, mommy. What stories would you like to tell me tonight?”
“Uh, let me think. Later, I’ll tell you a story about…”
“Once upon a time…”
…
The next day.
In the hospital.
When Song An arrived at the hospital with some porridge, she noticed that the hospital room was almost completely tidied up, whereas Ye Moxuan was bent down while tying up his shoelace.
“W-What are you doing?” Song An’s expression changed drastically, and she placed the porridge on the table in a hurry.
Ye Moxuan glanced at her before asking, “Can’t you see for yourself?”
“Are you getting discharged?” Song An asked. “Have you completed the discharge procedures?”
Just then, Xiao Su, who was handling the discharge paperwork, returned to the room. He greeted Song An respectfully when he saw her the moment he entered the hospital room. “Aunty Song.”
Song An turned around to look at him. “Were you settling the discharge procedures?”
Xiao Su was stunned to silence for several seconds before nodding swiftly. “Young Master Ye said that he’s fine, so…”
“Who said that he’s fine?” Song An marched forward and grabbed the papers from Xiao Su’s hands. Then, she turned to glare at Ye Moxuan in anger. “Who gave you the permission to decide recklessly? How can you be discharged within such a short time? Do you know that you were involved in a car accident? It’s just a car accident, not some minor injury!”
Ye Moxuan frowned unhappily when he heard that, and he answered with a frosty tone, “So what if it’s a car accident? My injuries are not severe; they are just superficial wounds.”
Song An was rendered speechless by his response.
“Alright, you want to go against me, am I right? Fine! I’ll arrange a blind date for you, then. I told you before that I’ll search for a suitable candidate for you once you are discharged from the hospital. I see that you are in a rush to get yourself discharged, so I’m guessing that you can’t wait for me to find a suitable candidate for you, is it?”
Ye Moxuan squinted at her, and he was obviously displeased.
“Since when have I agreed to that?”
“Ha!” Song An laughed mirthlessly before whipping her phone out to make a phone call. Ye Moxuan was stumped when he saw that, but he did not have a comeback for his aunt.
She can go ahead and make all the phone calls she wants. After all, I will not show up for the dates; in fact, I don’t care what kind of woman she’s managed to find for me.
Ye Moxuan got up and buttoned his suit jacket before announcing in a cold and detached voice, “Let’s go back to the company.”
Xiao Su nodded blankly before following him from behind.
However, just when they arrived at the entrance of the hospital room, Song An blocked their way at the door. “Where are you going? Without my permission, you are not allowed to go anywhere today!”
Ye Moxuan pursed his thin lips while emitting a cold and intimidating aura.
“Moxuan, it’s fine if you’re reluctant to listen to my advice to stay in the hospital; in fact, it’s fine even if you turn a blind eye to my advice. However, if you do not promise me to go on a blind date, then… I will leave and head to the netherworld and speak to your mom about it!”
Ye Moxuan and Xiao Su were stumped by her response.
Xiao Su gulped nervously before answering with a stutter, “W-Well… Aunt Song, I don’t think that’s necessary, is it? Young Master Ye is fit and well, and so there shouldn’t be much of a problem even if he were to discharge slightly earlier, am I right?”
“It’s all thanks to you,” retorted Song An while glaring at Xiao Su. “Is he a robot just because he is fit and well? Does he not need rest? Have you ever heard of a sick patient going back to work straight away after being diagnosed without receiving sufficient rest? Do you think that he was made of steel?”
Xiao Su tried to explain himself. “Aunt Song, I—”
“Enough. You should shut up because this has nothing to do with you. Take a day off for today, and you should go home to rest.”
Xiao Su’s expression lit up instantly when he heard that. “Really?”
However, his delight and glee did not last too long because he could sense a sharp and cold stare shooting at him. He was so horrified that he shuddered and straightened his back immediately.
“That doesn’t seem right, because if I don’t work today, I will not receive my year-end bonus.”
“Is that so?” Song An squinted at Ye Moxuan. “If he doesn’t pay you your year-end bonus, tell me how much your bonus is, and I’ll pay you triple that amount.”
Xiao Su’s eyes bulged at that, and he muttered, “Aunt Song, well—“
“So you can go ahead and rest well today.”
Without waiting for Xiao Su’s reply, Song An grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the room.
Ye Moxuan and Song An were the only ones left in the room now.
Song An blocked the entrance to stop him from leaving.
The two of them stared at each other for a few moments, and Ye Moxuan returned to his bed before breaking the silence with an icy tone.
“It’s fine if you want me to stay in the hospital for a week, but don’t go arranging random blind dates for me.”
“Haha, I won’t promise you that even if you agreed to stay in the hospital for another month.”
Song An smirked before closing the hospital room door behind her.
“I informed the other party, and they mentioned that it can be arranged for the two of you to meet this afternoon. Ye Moxuan, please don’t think that I am joking with you. I’m telling you right now that you can’t get out of it. You had better show up for the blind date today obediently, otherwise… I’ll join the afterlife to reason things out with your late mother!”
Ye Moxuan hesitated before asking her, “Aunt, must you force me?”
“Who is forcing whom here? Do you know how old you are? What have you been doing for the past few years? I am your elder, so is it wrong for me to search for someone to look after you?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 379
Ye Moxuan was not someone anyone would want to offend.
However, he was faced with his aunt, his elder.
In fact, she was different from his other elders, and that was why Ye Moxuan found it troublesome.
“Just wait right here. After all, you seem fine to me, so you’ll meet her directly in the afternoon.”
Ye Moxuan was unhappy about it, and he asked her with a gravelly voice, “Since when did this start?”
“What?” Song An was bewildered when she heard his question. “What do you mean?”
“Since when did you become so relentlessly unreasonable?”
Ye Moxuan looked up and stared directly at Song An. His pupils were almost pitch-black, and they were a stark contrast against the whites of his eyes, which made his emotions even more blatant as well. He was clearly unhappy with Song An’s arrangements.
Song An was stunned to silence for a while because she did not expect Ye Moxuan to make such a remark about her, and so she was at a loss for words.
She laughed mirthlessly by the time she regained her composure.
“I suppose you think that you can fend for yourself now, don’t you? How dare you describe me as being relentlessly unreasonable? Now that you are all grown-up, do I not have a say in your life anymore?”
Song An wore a complex expression after scolding him, and she looked rather sad and dejected.
Ye Moxuan felt rather depressed suddenly because he had been in a bad mood for the past few days. Furthermore, his aunt was most probably his only family left in the world.
Ye Moxuan shut his eyes when he thought of that before inhaling deeply while remaining silent.
“Fine, if you think I am relentlessly unreasonable, so be it! In any case, you have to show up for the blind date today!”
Ye Moxuan did not answer her, but neither did he go against her anymore.
Song An knew instinctively that he was acknowledging it in silence, and she let out a sigh of relief.
Even if Ye Moxuan thinks that I’m relentlessly unreasonable today, so be it.
…
“Well, match this with this. Mm-hmm, soup is a must.”
The chef hired by Han Group was drafting a week’s worth of nutritious set meal, and so Yan brought it over for Han Muzi to have a look.
Han Muzi nodded after glancing through it. She thought that it was alright, and after some minor amendments, she returned it to Yan.
“Soup and drinks are different every week. Muzi, how much do you think we should set the price at?”
“Well, the chef has more experience in this, so we shall let him decide.”
“Mm-hmm,” Yan agreed with a nod before turning around to leave the office.
Han Muzi was sorting some files, and just when Yan was about to leave, she called out for her. “On the way down, inform the team on the third floor to come up to the fourth floor to have a meeting.”
Yan exclaimed in surprise when she heard that, and she turned to face Han Muzi in bewilderment.
“Meeting?”
Han Muzi cocked a brow at her. “Is there a problem?”
“Uh, no.”
Yan flinched before leaving the office. It feels weird for her to ask me to get them to attend a meeting.
Previously, before the existence of the company, Han Muzi and I had more freedom. With the company now, we have to be in charge of others as well, and I’ve been swamped with work.
Forget it. Since this is the way things are progressing, I should just work harder.
In the conference room.
Some of them seemed reluctant when they were summoned for the meeting. However, since Han Muzi was their superior, they were left with no choice but to show up.
However… only several people showed up.
Han Muzi realized that there were only a few people present when she entered the conference room. She paused for a while without commenting, and then she marched to the head of the table while Yan followed her from behind, carrying a stack of documents.
Yan scanned the room and realized that only several people were present, and that included Shu Guo’er, Lin Zheng and Xiao Yiyi.
There were three more who weren’t present.
It was also obvious that these three team members, who were currently present in the conference room, had their cliques as well.
Li Junfeng had a mischievous smile, and his gaze was glued on Han Muzi.
Today, Han Muzi was dressed in formal clothes; she had on a blue-and-white-striped shirt paired with a pencil skirt. Her long and silky hair was tied up in a pony, which gave her a refreshing and charming look, and it also accentuated an air of efficiency.
This woman… has an exceptional beauty and body.
She gives off different vibes when she puts on light and full make-up.
On the other side, Shu Guo’er wore a polite smile while seated at the desk with a calm demeanor.
Meanwhile, Lin Zheng, the antisocial youth, sat quietly at the desk. His white shirt had several top buttons unfastened, which made him look slightly unkempt; whereas Xiao Yiyi was sitting beside him like a fan girl while staring unblinkingly at him in awe.
However, the loner youth seemed to be oblivious of Xiao Yiyi’s presence.
Xiao Yiyi knew that Lin Zheng didn’t like it when others got too near to him, and so she left a small gap between their seats. However, as long as he didn’t chase her away, Xiao Yiyi thought that it would bring enough happiness for her to be sharing a space with Lin Zheng.
“Where are the others? Didn’t I inform everyone that we are having a meeting? Why aren’t they here?” Yan asked.
Li Junfeng cocked a brow without answering her.
Shu Guo’er explained in a quiet voice, “They are most probably busy with some matters.”
“Busy with some matters? What are they busy with?”
Shu Guo’er smiled faintly before replying, “I’m not quite sure about that. Why don’t you go and have a look?”
Yan was about to march downstairs to check out the situation when she heard that.
But just when she took a couple of steps forward, Han Muzi stopped her. “Yan, sit down.”
Yan turned around and stared at Han Muzi in disbelief. “But… they aren’t here. I’m going to get them for this meeting.”
“No need,” Han Muzi answered with an icy expression, and her voice sounded especially frosty as well. “I’ve mentioned a few days ago that forcing people will not generate great designs and results. Since they are unwilling to come here, we shall start our meeting with the few of us here.”
With that, Han Muzi pursed her bright red lips before turning toward the folders in Yan’s arms. “Go ahead and distribute the files you have.”
Although Yan was boiling in anger, she did as Han Muzi requested obediently. She started reluctantly passing over the folders to those who were present in the meeting.
Han Muzi pulled her chair out and took a seat at the desk. The conference room was well-equipped, and so she inserted her flash drive, which she prepared beforehand, into the projector. After that, she instructed while adjusting the settings, “You guys should spend some time and read through the file in your hands.
Shu Guo’er did not comment, and instead, she flipped through the file in silence. Li Junfeng had his usual flippant look, whereas the quiet and antisocial youth started going through the folder mechanically. Meanwhile, Xiao Yiyi snorted before commenting while looking at the file, “Lin Zheng, what’s so interesting about this folder? The company has just started, and we don’t have clients engaging our services. Why are we even having this meeting?”
Lin Zheng ignored her completely while reading every word printed on the documents in the folder.
Li Junfeng did not even lay a finger on that stack of documents in front of him, but Han Muzi did not pay attention whether he read through the file or not because her job was to instruct them, and she had done that. Suddenly, Li Junfeng became curious about this woman.
She seems like a pushover that anyone could just bully.
But if you try to anger her, it will feel as if you’re punching on a cloud of cotton. If you try to offend her, you might receive a backlash from your own doing, whereas she would remain unscathed.
His gaze was most probably too obvious and focused because Han Muzi looked up suddenly and met his eyes with a cold and distant stare. “Is there a problem?”
Li Junfeng couldn’t help but flash her a smile when he heard that. “There’s no problem at all. I was just thinking, what is the use of having a meeting now? We don’t have any clients yet.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 380
“There aren’t clients now, but it doesn’t mean that there won’t be clients in the future.” Han Muzi looked away, and she twirled a black fountain pen non-stop between her fingers, which became the point of Li Junfeng’s focus.
Her fingers were thin and slender, and her fingertips were fair and clean. Every fingertip seemed to have its nail trimmed rounded and neat; it was different from the colorful nails of the women he knew. Han Muzi’s fingers were spotless, and her fingernails had beautiful shapes of white crescents on them.
“Apart from letting you go through these files, this meeting is to check how many of you would like to stay on in the company,” Han Muzi announced before placing her fountain pen on the table. “No matter the reason you entered the conference room, I’m glad that you are willing to attend this meeting. Thank you. Alright, let’s start the meeting.”
…
“Is that woman aware of the current situation? She’s asking for a meeting when the company has just started not too long ago. Does she truly think that she can be a capable boss? Judging by her appearance, I have a nagging feeling that the company wouldn’t be around for long. Why don’t we…”
Those who did not attend the meeting were discussing in hushed tones, and Zhang Yu was the one speaking hesitantly while eyeing Leng Yueyue and Wang An.
Leng Yueyue chuckled mirthlessly when she heard that before rolling her eyes at her in annoyance. “Zhang Yu, I’m not in the conference room because I’m having a stomachache. What has that got to do with you? Wong An is annoyingly clingy; are you too?”
Leng Yueyue looked rather pale, and cold sweat beaded across her forehead; she did seem in pain indeed.
Meanwhile, Wang An brought a cup of warm water over and served it in front of Leng Yueyue in a hurry. “Yueyue, have a cup of warm water.”
Leng Yueyue raised her arm and knocked over the cup of hot water the moment she saw it.
“Are you insane? I’m having a stomach ache; would drinking warm water help?”
The water splashed all over the table, and in the blink of an eye, it soaked the keyboards nearby too. Zhang Yu’s expression soured slightly, and she thought to herself, It turns out the rumors are true; Leng Yueyue has a horrible temper, and she likes throwing tantrums without reason.
Wang An was shocked by her sudden outburst as well, but he immediately grabbed some paper towels and started wiping dry the keyboards and desk. He then soothed her tentatively, “Yueyue, don’t be angry. I’ll wipe and dry the area, but you should be careful not to soak your sleeves.”
The water was flowing toward Leng Yueyue’s sleeve, and Wang An grabbed several paper towels hastily to help wipe the water away from the side of her arm. However, Leng Yueyue waved her arm in annoyance at him when she saw him coming closer to her.
“Can you get lost? Your face is a hindrance!”
Leng Yueyue had her manicure done, and there were several rhinestones on her nails. Unfortunately, they swiped across Wang An’s face at that moment, and they slashed through his left cheek, leaving small laceration wounds. Zhang Yu stood up anxiously when she saw that.
“Wang An, your face is wounded,” Zhang Yu commented before turning to look at Leng Yueyue incredulously. “What is your problem? Wang An is just concerned for you, but look at what you’ve done; you not only splashed the cup of water all over, you’ve even injured him.”
Leng Yueyue was overwhelmed by agony, but she endured the pain when she heard that comment and stared at Zhang Yu. “What has that got to do with you? Wang An did that willingly. I told him to leave me alone, but he just wouldn’t, and he insisted on clinging onto me. Would this have happened if he hadn’t been trying to fuss over me? What, now? Do you fancy Wang An?”
Zhang Yu blushed a deep red when she heard that, and she hissed through gritted teeth, “Leng Yueyue, you are truly unreasonable.”
“How am I unreasonable? I’m having a terrible stomachache, and so I wanted to have some rest here. You guys don’t want to attend the meeting in the conference room, and here you are, trying to claim that you’re looking after me as an excuse. Ha! Do you think that I’m unaware of your tricks?”
Leng Yueyue looked at them in disgust after making her point. She endured the pain in her stomach while making her way out of the office.
However, she was unsteady on her feet, and so Wang An came forward to support her out of concern. “Yueyue, is the pain horrible? Why don’t I send you to the hospital?”
“Get lost. Leave me alone,” scolded Leng Yueyue, and she seemed dead-set on ignoring him.
Zhang Yu stood rooted to the spot, and she clenched her fists while raising her voice. “Wang An, stop pestering her since she is ignoring you. As a grown man, where is your dignity?”
She seemed to have touched a nerve because Wang An stopped dead in his tracks before turning around to face Zhang Yu. “I don’t need you lecturing me about my own actions. Besides, I’m pursuing Yueyue, and I’m clear how she is as a person!”
Thud—
Leng Yueyue, who was walking in front, couldn’t bear the pain anymore and finally collapsed onto the ground.
“Yueyue!”
The color drained from Wang An’s face, and he dashed forward to pick Leng Yueyue up from the floor before leaving the place in a rush.
“Where are you going?!”
Wang An did not answer her, and instead, he disappeared with Leng Yueyue in his arms. Zhang Yu was suddenly left all alone in the office, and she stood still while weighing her options for ages before finally leaving the office as well.
In the conference room.
“Have you all finished reading the documents? Do you have any suggestions?”
Han Muzi scanned everyone in the room with her expressionless gaze while asking in a cold and detached voice.
At that moment, the conference room door was pushed open with a bang. Zhang Yu barged in with tears streaked across her face. “Bad news…”
The meeting got interrupted suddenly, and Han Muzi frowned reflexively. She turned around to stare at Zhang Yu, who barged in. Meanwhile, Yan stood up abruptly while asking fiercely, “Weren’t you guys uninterested in attending the meeting? Why are you showing up here all of a sudden?”
“Leng Yueyue—”
“Get out.”
A somber voice cut Zhang Yu off. Yan then turned around and realized Han Muzi had a blank expression while staring at Zhang Yu coldly.
Zhang Yu was stunned for a moment before asking her, “W-What did you say?”
“We are in the middle of a meeting. Before the meeting is over, no one is allowed to interrupt.”
Zhang Yu snapped back to her senses. She is calling me an intruder, and she’s asking me to get lost. Her expression soured immediately, and she spat angrily at her, “I did not barge in on purpose. I have something to tell you.”
“In that case, go out and wait until the meeting is over.”
“Do you have a conscience? I told you I have something urgent to tell you.”
Han Muzi snorted coldly. “Yan, show her the way out.”
Yan nodded and came to a stop in front of Zhang Yu. “You didn’t come earlier when you were invited, so your chance is gone even though you showed up now. Get lost.”
Zhang Yu bit her lower lips and stood still, clearly unwilling to leave.
“If you don’t leave, please don’t blame me for using brute force on you,” Yan remarked while cracking her knuckles.
Who do you think you’re messing with? I’m not some weak and frail woman. I’m not just Han Muzi’s assistant, because I can even act as her bodyguard. After all, I’m a strong woman who is fierce and vicious in a fight.
Judging by Yan’s look, she seemed ready to take down Zhang Yu, and so Zhang Yu left in a fury.
Bang—
The conference room doors closed once again.
Xiao Yiyi was dumbfounded when she saw the incident unfold before her. “Is that alright? I think she… truly had something important to inform you.”
On the other side, Shu Guo’er chuckled softly. “Why does it matter? Yan was right—she didn’t come earlier when she was invited. What gave her the right to come and go as she pleases in the middle of a meeting?”
Li Junfeng smirked. “Not bad. You stick to your principles. I like it,” he said flippantly.
Xiao Yiyi glared at him vehemently. “Shameless!”
