Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 391
“But Lin Xinghuo has already established herself in the entertainment industry for a very long time; in fact, she has received the Best Actress Award before. Shu Guo’er grasped this point well, and you must have tried understanding Lin Xinghuo thoroughly beforehand. However… there’s a strong sense of imitation here. Parts of her skirt and waist are quite similar to the evening dress she has worn before. Shu Guo’er, in our industry, it’s fine to refer to other designs for inspiration, but we can’t imitate.”
When Shu Guo’er heard that, the color drained from her fair cheeks. “I-It must have been a coincidence. I…”
Han Muzi continued with her feedback. “Xiao Yiyi’s design concept is not bad, but you are limiting yourself to your past styles. As for Leng Yueyue…”
Leng Yueyue straightened her back while meeting Han Muzi’s gaze with defiance.
Han Muzi smiled faintly while commenting, “In general, the design is good, but the problem here is that there are careless mistakes, and you didn’t take into account many details.”
Leng Yueyue almost lost her cool when she heard that.
“You!”
“Whereas Li Junfeng—”
“Stop!” Li Junfeng cut her off suddenly while meeting Han Muzi’s gaze with a smile.
“Miss Muzi, my empress Muzi, I’ve confirmed that you are a pro after listening to your feedback. Please leave some dignity for us men and don’t continue with your comments.”
Han Muzi pondered before looking at the last seat at the table.
“Where’s Lin Zheng?”
That youth’s work was the only one she was happy with. However… his artwork is too dark, and although it looks magnificent and has an unmistakable presence… there’s a sense of suppression in the design.
It must be related to his personality.
“Lin Zheng didn’t show up for work today,” Xiao Yiyi answered hastily for Lin Zheng. “I think something family-related came up.”
“Has he reported it?”
“Yes!” Xiao Yiyi answered in a hurry. “I helped him type out the report once I arrived at work in the morning.”
Yan nodded. “That’s true. I just forgot to inform you.”
Han Muzi acknowledged it before gathering her documents again.
“If you don’t need me to continue with my feedback, I’m sure you guys know how to proceed with your designs.”
Apart from Li Junfeng and Wang An, who felt embarrassed, Zhang Yu was most probably the most upset. She clenched her fists tightly in her seat while shooting daggers at Han Muzi.
“I’m sure that everybody knows that we need this evening gown urgently. So until I’m satisfied with your draft, everyone shall stay on today to work overtime.”
Nobody replied to her, but their reluctance was palpable.
“Meeting is adjourned.”
Zhang Yu lost her temper once Han Muzi left the room!
“Damn her! Who does she think she is? There she was, giving us so much feedback! I wonder if she knows her stuff or she was just pretending!”
Leng Yueyue glanced at her and felt dumbstruck. “She was right, though. You didn’t even try understanding Lin Xinghuo’s previous styles, I assume. Just look at how many years she’s been in the industry, and she’s even received a Best Actress Award. Here you were, designing a girly dress for her. That’s foolish of you.”
“I…” Zhang Yu noticed Shu Guo’er, who was flushed red in the face, and so she went ahead to provoke her. “No matter how badly designed my work turned out, it’s my design. At least I’m not like someone else… who’s so bad that she has to imitate another designer.”
Shu Guo’er’s lips turned pale the moment she heard that, and her fair hands gripped her draft tightly while she bit her lower lip hard.
Shu Guo’er turned around suddenly and shot Zhang Yu an eerie stare.
“My work merely coincided with someone else’s design. Meanwhile, you are so useless that you can’t even produce any good designs. Do you think you have the right to condemn me?”
With that, without waiting for a reply from Zhang Yu, Shu Guo’er picked her folder up and dashed out of the conference room.
Li Junfeng sighed helplessly. “Sigh…”
After that, he got up and went after her.
…
Han Muzi just arrived in her office with the stack of documents. She started massaging her throbbing forehead after sitting down. Honestly, these people are so…
Yan brought a cup of coffee for her while complaining, “They are supposedly the best, but each one of them has nothing to show for in their work. Aren’t they a disappointment?”
Han Muzi glanced at Yan when she heard that before explaining patiently, “I know they are the best in the field because I’ve seen their work from the past. Zhang Yu’s design has a bubbly and energetic style; meanwhile, Shu Guo’er lacks creativity, and that’s why she tends to get her inspirations from other designers’ work. On the other hand, Leng Yueyue is rather careless, and she’s not good with details. Li Junfeng’s personal style is too strong, and as for Xiao Yiyi… she is similar to Zhang Yu. To be fair, their styles are obvious. Not to mention Wang An, who’s not good at details as well. But Lin Zheng… He’s not here since he took the day off today. He is too frosty, and I feel there’s something off with his personal design…”
With that, Han Muzi placed her cup of the coffee down and took Lin Zheng’s draft out again before scanning it meticulously.
“Isn’t it quite strange? The entire design feels intricate, but each part feels somewhat inhibited.”
Han Muzi nodded when she heard that, and she got lost in her thoughts. “I’m guessing that it has something to do with his past.”
“What past?”
Just then, Han Muzi’s phone on the table started ringing, and she checked the display screen before answering the phone call.
“Hello, good day to you.”
It was Lin Qingqing phoning her. Lin Qingqing was smiling shyly on the other end of the line while speaking into the phone. “I’m sorry to be phoning you so early in the morning, Shelly. I hope I’m not bothering you.”
Early? Han Muzi checked the time and realized that after their meeting, it was almost noon now.
She most probably just got out of bed.
Han Muzi answered with a soft tone when she thought of that, “No worries, Miss Lin. We provide 24/7 customer service.”
“Well, I thought of some elements, and I’d like to have them added to my evening gown. Are you free in the afternoon?”
Afternoon? Han Muzi nodded with a reply. “Of course. I’m available.”
“Great, in that case, let’s meet at 2PM. I’ll send you the location later.”
Yan asked in confusion after Han Muzi hung up on the call, “Was it Lin Qingqing again?”
“Mm-hmm, she wants to meet me to chat about the evening gown.”
“Oh, in that case, I’ll be off to continue with my work.”
…
On the other side, after Lin Qingqing ended the phone call, she couldn’t help but take the invitation out of the box on the table.
It was an invitation to a business banquet, and there was still a long time before the banquet date. I heard that Ye Moxuan will be there at the banquet as well. If I wear a dress I like and show up at the banquet, I’m sure he’ll be smitten with me.
Just when she was lost in her thoughts, Mrs. Lin pushed the door open and entered suddenly.
“Qingqing, what are you doing?”
“Mom?” Lin Qingqing shoved the invitation back into the box hastily before standing up while grabbing her mobile phone.
Mrs. Lin looked at her helplessly, seeing that she was still in her pajamas. Then, she reached out and flicked a finger at her forehead while scolding, “Did you just get out of bed? Quick, go and freshen up. Aunty Song is here.”
“Aunty Song is here?” Lin Qingqing’s eyes shone brightly at the mention of Song An’s name, and she immediately lowered her face shyly. “Well…”
Mrs. Lin obviously knew what her daughter had in mind, and she replied with a grin, “She’s here so you and him can meet.”
Can I meet with Ye Moxuan again?
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 392
Lin Qingqing looked delighted when she heard that, and she clung onto her mother’s arm. “Mom, you are the best! Were you the one who went looking for Aunty Song?”
Mrs. Lin smiled gently when she heard that and replied with a tender voice, “How could I not know what my daughter is thinking? Besides, I do think that the man this time is decent. But… he doesn’t seem willing to go on a blind date. I wonder…”
“Mom, that’s impossible. I’ve asked around, and it turns out that Ye Moxuan does not have a girlfriend. Otherwise, with Aunty Song’s character, how would she allow him to go on a blind date?”
“That’s true; we have to trust Aunty Song’s word.”
Once she was dressed for the occasion, Lin Qingqing made her way downstairs, and she smiled tenderly at Song An. “Aunty Song, good day to you. Why are you so free to drop by today?”
Song An glanced at Lin Qingqing’s outfit. She was wearing a light pink knitted top paired with a pink tulle skirt. Her beautiful curly hair hung loosely around her shoulders, and she had very light makeup on, which made her fair face look smooth as a baby’s bottom.
As an elder, Song An liked this type of girl. The Lin Family was also considered a family with a good background; her father ran a company, whereas her mother was a doctor in the hospital. Despite being in such a good family, Lin Qingqing was not spoiled at all.
Such a wonderful girl is difficult to come by. Hence, Song An was determined to introduce her to Ye Moxuan.
“Don’t you know why I’m here?” Song An smiled after asking her.
Mrs. Lin, who was nearby, chuckled when she heard that. Lin Qingqing blushed furiously when she heard that, and she seemed so embarrassed that she was at a loss for words. She stood rooted to the spot for ages before finally making her way to Song An’s side. Ling Qingqing took the initiative and sat beside Song An before clinging onto her arm. “Aunty Song, you’re making fun of me, aren’t you?” she uttered in a quiet voice before biting her lower lip.
Seeing the girl acting so coyly, Song An touched her nose and commented, “When have I made fun of you? I’ve obviously seen through your thoughts. Later, you should have a meal with me, and if there’s a chance, I’ll ask Moxuan out.”
Lin Qingqing nodded shyly. “Thank you, Aunty Song. You’re so generous to me. But will Moxuan come over?”
“Moxuan is rather obedient when it comes to me. He has a very cold façade, but a warm heart, so it might be slightly exhausting in the beginning with him. Hence, I’m going to ask you beforehand—are you confident?”
Confident? Lin Qingqing was stunned to silence for a moment, but she broke into a grin soon enough. “If I understand you correctly, Aunty Song, you are asking whether I’m confident in melting this huge iceberg.”
Song An nodded in agreement.
“Don’t worry, Aunty Song. I will not complain about his personality. On the contrary… I especially like this type of personality. He’s just like an iceberg, which means that he will be like an iceberg toward other girls too, not just me. As long as he doesn’t have a girlfriend, I’ll stand a chance. Besides… I’m anticipating for the iceberg to melt for me one day.” With that, Lin Qingqing seemed to have reached her limit because she lowered her head in embarrassment.
Song An regarded Lin Qingqing meaningfully before looking up to meet Mrs. Lin’s gaze. “Good girl. I knew I wouldn’t be wrong about a person. Well, let’s go now.”
At Debao Restaurant.
“I asked him to come over for a meal. Let’s order first. Moxuan is usually punctual, and I’m sure he will show up.”
Lin Qingqing picked her phone up and glanced at the time, thereupon she noted that it was five minutes to the scheduled time. She then picked the menu up and ordered some snacks with Song An.
Ye Moxuan showed up in the restaurant on the dot. When he entered the restaurant, his dark eyes started scanning the crowd for Song An. However, when he realized that there was another figure seated beside Song An, he scowled in disdain.
My aunt is so annoying. She phoned me while claiming that she’s heading back to Su City, and that’s why she wanted to have a farewell meal with me before she leaves. Who would have expected her to arrange for another blind date for me? Ha! That’s fine. I’ll treat this as a farewell meal.
“Moxuan!” Song An called out for him when he was still deep in his thoughts.
Ye Moxuan was tall and well-built, and he attracted lots of attention the moment he entered the restaurant. He attracted even more attention when he started making his way toward Song An’s table.
Looking at the handsome and god-like man approaching her table, Lin Qingqing felt her heart race in her chest, and it felt as if her heart might leap into her throat. Her fingers were all entwined tightly underneath the table.
This man… is mine. Even though he isn’t mine right now… he will be mine one day!
“Come, come, have a seat,” invited Song An with a smile while pulling Ye Moxuan to have a seat. Then, she stood up while announcing, “You youngsters should have a chat. I’ll go shopping nearby now.”
Ye Moxuan’s eyes glazed over with a layer of frost when he heard that while staring at her. “Farewell meal?”
Song An looked rather embarrassed, and Lin Qingqing realized that Song An tricked Ye Moxuan to have this meal with her. Nevertheless, Lin Qingqing was determined to get what she wanted, and so she didn’t feel embarrassed at all.
“The two of you should enjoy your meal. You have to stay for at least half an hour before leaving. Bye, now.” With that, Song An left the restaurant in a rush.
Meanwhile, Han Muzi didn’t have much of an appetite, and she tried resting after a few mouthfuls of rice. By the time she woke up from her afternoon nap, she realized with a start that it was almost 2. Thus, she panicked and phoned Lin Qingqing.
Lin Qingqing sounded anxious when she answered the phone call. “Shelly?”
“Miss Lin, good day to you. It’s almost our scheduled time, but I have yet to receive an address from you. May I ask…”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Shelly. I’m at Debao Restaurant having a meal with my friend, and that’s why I forgot to text you.”
“Debao Restaurant?” Han Muzi made her way to the full-length window in front of her. She stared at Debao Restaurant, which happened to be just right across the street, and she smiled immediately. “Miss Lin, is it the one right opposite our company?”
Lin Qingqing was stunned to silence for a while before answering, “I think so… yes.”
“In that case, please hang on for a while, and I’ll be there to meet you.”
Lin Qingqing regarded the handsome man, who was sitting opposite her, and she was just about to reject Han Muzi, but the latter had hung up the call. She blinked several times when she heard the beeping tone through the phone. I wanted to say that it’s inconvenient for me, and that we should schedule a later meaning, but she…
“Miss Lin, do you have matters to attend to?” She was spacing out when Ye Moxuan asked her with a frosty tone out of the blue.
Lin Qingqing snapped back to her senses and kept her phone back into her bag. “No, I don’t.” If I say that I’m busy or continue staring at my phone, I have a feeling that Ye Moxuan will just leave straight away.
Ye Moxuan frowned slightly at her. This woman… just can’t stop pestering me. As a man, I’m already giving her the cold shoulder, but here she is, sitting there like a rock.
As Ye Moxuan stood up, Lin Qingqing broke the silence in a panic. “Mr. Ye, where are you going?”
Ye Moxuan paused in his steps and replied to her coldly, “To the washroom.” Didn’t Song An ask me to be here for at half an hour? I shall fulfill her wishes, then. But she didn’t specify where I have to be within the half an hour, did she?
Seeing as Ye Moxuan wasn’t leaving the restaurant, and that he was just going to the washroom, Lin Qingqing let out a sigh of relief.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 393
Han Muzi was quick. She arrived downstairs, took a turn at the corner, and arrived at the restaurant soon enough. She saw Lin Qingqing, who was sitting not too far away, once she entered the restaurant.
Han Muzi paused for a while when she recalled with a start. I phoned her just now because it was almost our scheduled time, and that’s why I was in such a rush to meet her. However, she’s sitting at the table, and she told me she is having a meal with her friend. Would it be inappropriate if I approach her right now?
She was pondering when a server approached her suddenly. “Good day to you, miss. May I help you?”
Han Muzi snapped back to reality when she heard that, and she smiled at the server. “I’m here to meet a friend. Thank you.” After that, she made her way toward Lin Qingqing. But when she got closer, she realized Lin Qingqing was alone at the table. Didn’t she say that she was having a meal with her friend? Han Muzi was confused. “Miss Lin, good day to you.”
Lin Qingqing had been waiting for Ye Moxuan, who had yet to return from the washroom. He’s been gone for such a long time. He should have been back by now even if he was doing a number two. Is he unwilling to return because he is reluctant to share the table with me? she thought in silence while sighing helplessly. Suddenly, she heard Han Muzi’s voice.
Lin Qingqing snapped back to her senses and realized that Han Muzi was already standing in front of her.
“Oh, it’s you,” Lin Qingqing sounded rather dejected, and she seemed disheartened.
Han Muzi noticed Lin Qingqing’s expression, and after some quick thinking, she spoke, “Miss Lin, I was in a rush earlier. That’s why it slipped my mind to ask if it was a good time.” With that, Han Muzi glanced at the seat opposite Lin Qingqing. “Why don’t I return later if it’s a bad time now?”
“That’s not necessary. Please have a seat.” Lin Qingqing laughed bitterly. “I think he is gone by now.” At that point, Lin Qingqing believed that he must have used going to the washroom as an excuse. In reality, he must have left by now.
Han Muzi could tell that Lin Qingqing was rather dejected, and so she didn’t comment further. She then took the seat opposite Lin Qingqing while chuckling softly. “Are you sure you’re fine? Do you want to hang out in my company for a bit?” Han Muzi wondered to herself, If she’s feeling depressed being here, I wonder if she might feel better with a change of environment by going to my company instead.
Lin Qingqing blinked several times. Hang out in her company?
Meanwhile, Ye Moxuan did not go to the washroom; he was smoking in the corridor instead. He finally stubbed the cigarette after he felt that a sufficient amount of time had passed. Then, he headed back into the restaurant.
From outside, Ye Moxuan could see another person seated at Lin Qingqing’s table. His cold gaze scanned the person’s face swiftly before he stopped dead in his tracks. His handsome face maintained its cold and detached indifference, but his pitch-black eyes were roiling in emotions. Surge of emotions were threatening to burst forth from his chest, and he was swept up in them almost instantly.
Am I hallucinating? Is that woman appearing in my hallucinations again? Well, I saw this woman fleetingly the last two times. I think… it must be the same this time.
Hence, he held his breath straight away without blinking. One, two…
Ten seconds had passed, but the person in front of him was still in sight. In fact, she was smiling happily. So it isn’t a hallucination this time?
Ye Moxuan marched forward with his long legs as he made his way toward her one step after another.
“Well, alright. Let’s hang out for a bit in your company. Let me get the bill first.” Han Muzi thought in silence, Since she’s my client, I suppose it’s fine to get the bill on her behalf. As such, she grabbed her handbag while standing up swiftly. “I’ll get it; you just have to wait right here.”
Han Muzi held her handbag and stood up. She was about to walk toward the cash register when she looked up and saw a tall figure towering over her unexpectedly.
Under those thick eyebrows were a pair of cold, sharp eagle eyes. Hardship through the years had made those eyes appear especially dark, whereas his nose was straight and prominent as usual. Those lips were still as thin as before, and they were pressed into a thin, cold line.
This face… Han Muzi paused shortly in her steps, and she felt her heart skip a beat, almost as if her heart was about to stop beating. Am I… seeing things? Why is that person showing up here? And why is he so close to me??
Han Muzi tightened her grip around her bag reflexively. Her action made her knuckles turn white, and her veins were especially prominent beneath her fair skin.
The two of them were so close to each other that Han Muzi could smell his strong, masculine scent. His musk wafted over, and it overwhelmed her senses, as if she was trapped within his scent.
Ye Moxuan stared at her coldly. It really is her! I even thought I was hallucinating!
“Moxuan?” A girlish voice broke the deafening silence.
Lin Qingqing, who was sitting nearby, saw Ye Moxuan when she looked up. Hence, she stood up in excitement while greeting him, “Is it really you? You didn’t leave?” Her voice betrayed her delight, and tears were brimming in her eyes. “I thought you stood me up!”
Han Muzi snapped back to reality when she heard the name ‘Moxuan’. She looked up with a start and realized she was about to bump into Ye Moxuan. Hence, she took several steps backward to maintain a distance from him.
After that, she kept her eyes lowered, letting her long eyelashes shield her thoughts that were reflected through her eyes. It turns out that… Ye Moxuan is the person causing Lin Qingqing’s distress.
Lin Qingqing was so delighted at Ye Moxuan’s return that she became too distracted to notice the shift in his emotions and focus.
Ye Moxuan’s attention was solely on Han Muzi, as if she was the center of his gravitational force.
Han Muzi inhaled deeply while suppressing the mixed emotions in her heart. It took some time before she looked up and smiled at Lin Qingqing. She uttered, “It seems like you are busy, Miss Lin. I shall take my leave now.”
Lin Qingqing naturally treasured the time she shared with Ye Moxuan alone, and so she nodded in agreement shyly.
However, just when Han Muzi took the first step to leave, Ye Moxuan, who stood rooted to the spot while staring at Han Muzi unblinkingly, finally spoke. His voice was frosty like a snowy day in winter. “Is she your friend?”
Lin Qingqing was stunned to silence for quite a while before finally realizing Ye Moxuan was directing his question to her. She nodded hastily, but she shook her head after that. Then, she introduced them out of courtesy, “Mr. Ye, this is Shelly, a fashion designer who has just returned from abroad. Shelly, this is Mr. Ye Moxuan, the President of Ye Group. He is my…” Lin Qingqing’s fair cheeks blushed slightly when she got to the last part of her sentence. What should I introduce him as? Without a doubt, I believe that Ye Moxuan and I will end up together, but it seems inappropriate to introduce him as such right now. On the other hand, it doesn’t seem appropriate to introduce him as my blind date as well.
In the end, Lin Qingqing settled with a neutral introduction. “He is my friend.”
Han Muzi obviously knew that he was the President of Ye Group. She already knew of this piece of information five years ago. However… right now, she did not want to know anything about him.
In order to keep things professional with her client, Han Muzi greeted Ye Moxuan in a neutral tone, “Good day to you, Mr. Ye.”
Mr. Ye? When he heard her address him so formally, Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes swiftly. His aura took a menacing turn, and he gave off an intimidating vibe.
It has been five years; I see she has switched to addressing me as Mr. Ye. Ha, this is just great.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 394
Ye Moxuan took a step forward, and his palpable forceful aura got even stronger.
Han Muzi had already calmed down, and she stood still with an indifferent expression.
“What is it?” Lin Qingqing sensed something weird, and so she asked out of curiosity.
Han Muzi turned to Lin Qingqing when she heard that and responded with a smile.
“Miss Lin, let’s contact each other later. I don’t want to be a bother.”
With that, Han Muzi nodded at Ye Moxuan in acknowledgement before going around the other side of the table to leave.
Lin Qingqing asked in embarrassment, “Why don’t you stay for a drink before leaving?”
“Well…”
“You came all the way here after all. I will feel bad if you leave right now. Anyway… since he is back now, it’s no problem for you to hang out for a bit.”Han Muzi tightened her grip around her bag, but after a while, she loosened up and answered with a relaxed smile, “Sure, then I’ll stay for a drink.”
Han Muzi ordered a glass of fruit juice.
The restaurant served her fruit juice swiftly. Han Muzi knew that she was staying for a drink just to be polite, and so she merely had a couple of sips.
Ye Moxuan, who was initially planning to leave, stayed on as well. He was sitting opposite Han Muzi while wearing a cold and detached expression.
Ye Moxuan looked rather upset, and Lin Qingqing didn’t dare comment much. The three of them had varying thoughts despite sharing a table.
Nevertheless, the man’s fierce gaze was focused on Han Muzi. Although he was peering at her coldly, his gaze felt scorching on her face because he was staring at her unwaveringly.
It was almost as if he might bore holes on her face through his gaze.
Seconds ticked by, and after several minutes, Han Muzi stood up and announced, “Thank you for having me. However, I have to go back to work, so I’ll get out of your hair now.” With that, Han Muzi stood up with a smile. “It’s my treat today.”
After that, without waiting for their replies, she turned around and made her way to the cash register to settle the bill.
Han Muzi was about to hand her card to the cashier, but someone else had beaten her to it.
“Swipe this card.” An icy-cold voice that was void of emotions rang out of nowhere.
Han Muzi was very familiar with this voice, and she didn’t even need to look up to know who it was.
“I do not have the habit of allowing women to pay the bill for me.”
Han Muzi was at a loss for words.
After pondering for a while, Han Muzi kept her bank card into her bag in silence. She turned around to face Ye Moxuan with a polite and distant smile. “In that case, thank you very much, Mr. Ye.”
Lin Qingqing, who was following Ye Moxuan from behind, was secretly delighted when she saw that.
This man I fell for is so different. Men should act just like Ye Moxuan; he is such a gentleman.
When Han Muzi got to the entrance of the restaurant, Lin Qingqing suggested suddenly, “Muzi, why don’t we walk you back to your company? It’s just around the corner anyway.”
Han Muzi stopped dead in her tracks when she heard that, and the corners of her lips twitched reflexively.
“There’s no need, Miss Lin. It’s just a stone’s throw away, after all. Thank you so much for meeting me today.”
Han Muzi thought it was unnecessary for them to walk her back since it was such a short distance. Seeing as Lin Qingqing did not object, Han Muzi turned around to leave straight away while ignoring the other pair of eyes which were glued to her.
Lin Qingqing stared at her back view before secretly stealing a glance at Ye Moxuan, who was standing nearby.
“When did I say that I would be sending you home?”
True enough, he asked rhetorically in a cold and ruthless voice.
Although Lin Qingqing already guessed that Ye Moxuan wouldn’t send her back home, his sudden announcement made her feel embarrassed. Fortunately, Han Muzi has left.
At the thought of that, Lin Qingqing looked up at Ye Moxuan with a smile before answering him, “I knew you wouldn’t send me home. Thank you for today, and have a safe journey later.”
Lin Qingqing did not pester him further after saying her piece; instead, she turned around, preparing to leave.
However, she recalled something with a start and glanced at Ye Moxuan before asking, “By the way, Mr. Ye, can I add you on WeChat?”
Ha, such an insatiable woman who keeps pushing her limits.
A trace of impatience gleamed in Ye Moxuan’s eyes, and just when he was about to reject her, something flashed across his mind while he squinted at the direction where Han Muzi left earlier.
“Earlier, did you mention that… she is a fashion designer?”
Initially, Lin Qingqing merely nodded blankly, since she seemed in a daze. But after a moment, something came to her mind while she grinned brightly at him. Lin Qingqing explained eagerly, “That’s right, Mr. Ye. She is a fashion designer, and this time, I went to her company to entrust her with the designing of my evening gown. If you need any help with fashion design, you should engage her services.”
At that moment, Lin Qingqing merely noted Ye Moxuan’s interest in Han Muzi’s work as a fashion designer. She figured he wanted Han Muzi for some advice in fashion design, so she offered Han Muzi’s identity without a second thought.
It would be best if I can use this chance to advance my relationship with Ye Moxuan, she thought to herself.
Fashion designer, huh?
Ye Moxuan’s gaze darkened significantly.
Who would have guessed that woman is now a fashion designer? This is rather surprising.
Lin Qingqing bit her lower lip gleefully before asking in excitement, “Mr. Ye, are you looking into engaging the services of a fashion designer too? Why don’t we add each other on WeChat? I can forward you her business card!”
Lin Qingqing’s heartbeat increased rapidly when she asked him because this was the key to her route for success!
If it were in the past, Ye Moxuan would have left straight away. Forget about adding each other’s WeChat accounts; he wouldn’t have bothered himself with her at all.
However, things were different now; after a short pause, Ye Moxuan took his mobile phone out.
“Forward her business card to me.”
Ye Moxuan left Lin Qingqing straight away after dropping that statement.
Lin Qingqing nodded enthusiastically while waving at him. “I will, Mr. Ye. Please have a safe journey!”
She stared after that forlorn and tall figure until he disappeared around the corner. Then Lin Qingqing finally looked away and lowered her eyes to stare at her mobile phone. She was exhilarated while hugging her phone against her chest, as if it was something precious.
This is great! I am one step closer to my crush.
It seems like Aunty Song was right about Ye Moxuan being a warm person underneath his cold façade.
I can almost imagine the two of us being together in the future.
Lin Qingqing then left happily with her phone in her hands.
…
Han Muzi went into her office after entering her company building. After that, she sat at her desk and stared into space.
Yan was confused when she saw Han Muzi back in the office. Didn’t she say she’s meeting with a client? Why is she back so early? However, Yan did not voice her doubts because she figured Han Muzi was capable of sorting her own matters.
However, later on when Yan got up to prepare herself a cup of coffee, she realized Han Muzi was still in the same seated position as when she just got back earlier. Hence, Yan had an odd and uneasy feeling.
What is happening?
Yan squinted at her before she brought a freshly-prepared cup of coffee into the office.
Thud.
The sound of the cup of coffee placed on the desk brought Han Muzi back to reality with a snap. Han Muzi looked up at Yan, who was standing right in front of her while peering at her curiously.
Yan folded her arms in front of her chest when she saw Han Muzi looking up at her. “What is the matter? You don’t seem yourself…”
Han Muzi hesitated when she heard that.
Do I not seem like myself?
Han Muzi couldn’t help but flash a self-deprecating smile when she thought of that.
All along, I thought I was already at peace with myself, since it has been so many years; but I realized today that… certain things don’t change simply because I want them to.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 395
“Nothing,” answered Han Muzi. After being lost in her thoughts for a moment, she shook her head firmly before looking down at the folders on her desk.
This should not be happening.
I should have already been at peace with myself. Even if I bumped into him, I should have been able to treat him like a total stranger.
Han Muzi shut her eyes, but she soon realized her heart and mind were in a mess.
“Something must have happened!” Yan had been living with her for the past five years, so she knew Han Muzi well. Yan could immediately sense if something was bothering Han Muzi. Hence, she squinted at Han Muzi and bent slightly forward while approaching her. “Didn’t you say you were meeting Lin Qingqing? Why are you back so fast? Tell me; did Lin Qingqing bully you?”
Han Muzi looked up at Yan when she heard that, and she saw Yan’s fierce expression, as if she was gearing up for a fight.
Han Muzi teased her with a smile, “What would you do if I said yes?”
Yan immediately started cracking her knuckles and announced, “If Lin Qingqing bullied you, I will beat her up right now. I am a woman after all, and no one would dare say anything if I hit another woman.”
Han Muzi was stunned before she replied helplessly, “Please, the society is regulated by the law. You will be subjected to sanctions for beating people up.”
Yan burst out laughing before asking her, “What, now? Can’t I resolve my personal issues in private? Besides, I will only injure her; it’s not like I’d beat her to death.”
“I am dropping the joke. Nothing happened, honestly. I got back early because our client, Miss Lin, had something to attend to at the last minute; that was why I came back early.”
“But your facial expression is telling a different story,” insisted Yan while propping her chin up, as if processing her thoughts. “Quick, tell me. What else happened aside from that?”
Han Muzi inhaled deeply when she heard that before she smiled helplessly. “Why are you such a busybody? What else could there be?”
“In that case, why were you spacing out at your desk for such a long time?”
“That’s because I was wondering what kind of design Miss Lin wants.”
Yan had no choice but to trust her for now. “Fine. But you have to tell me if something crops up. Don’t keep everything to yourself, alright?”
“Mm-hmm,” Han Muzi answered.
Han Muzi let out a sigh of relief once Yan left her office.
That girl is too… sensitive and intuitive.
However, I have no one to blame but myself, since I couldn’t keep my emotions hidden.
Even Yan feels that I wasn’t myself; in that case, wouldn’t Ye Moxuan have seen through me as well?
That can’t happen…
Five years ago, I lost my dignity; I begged him to meet me, and I even abandoned my self-respect to beg him. However, in the end, he threw those divorce papers at me anyway.
I must not lose myself in front of him, and I have to tread a fine line to maintain my integrity.
I have to be at peace with myself.
That man is nothing more than a stranger to me.
Ding—
Her phone vibrated, and it was a WeChat text from Lin Qingqing.
Lin Qingqing sent a text saying, ‘I’m so sorry about today, Shelly. I feel so bad to have wasted your time. Why don’t we reschedule our appointment to tonight? Let’s meet at the same restaurant, and it shall be my treat this time.’
Tonight? Han Muzi pondered before tapping away swiftly across her phone screen with her fair and slender fingers.
Han Muzi: ‘I am so sorry, Miss Lin. I have to work overtime tonight, and I am afraid I can’t make it.’
Lin Qingqing: ‘In that case, it’s fine. Let’s meet again when you’re free.’
Han Muzi: ‘Tonight aside, where I have to work overtime, I can suit your schedule anytime, Miss Lin. I’m so sorry about tonight.’
Lin Qingqing: ‘No worries. I should be the one apologizing. If I had scheduled well, you wouldn’t have wasted your time. By the way, Miss Shelly, isn’t your company newly established?’
Han Muzi: ‘Yup.’
Lin Qingqing: ‘I forwarded your business card to Moxuan. I believe he will send businesses your way. In the future, I will also recommend more friends and family to your company.’
She forwarded my WeChat business card to Ye Moxuan?
In that instant, Han Muzi felt her heart plummet, but she snapped back to her senses swiftly.
Han Muzi: ‘Thank you so much.’
After that, Han Muzi placed her phone on the desk before leaning backward against her chair while massaging between her brows in exhaustion.
When it was 5PM, Han Muzi was just about to have her meal in the canteen when Yan walked through the door with a solemn expression. “Muzi, we have a problem.”
Han Muzi cocked her brow in surprise when she saw Yan’s stern expression. “What happened?”
“Xiao Yiyi came to me and informed me that Lin Zheng is in trouble. After that, she left crying. I have no idea what is going on, but she left in anguish. Should we do something?”
Lin Zheng is in trouble?
Han Muzi recalled the cold and detached youth before stating, “Check Lin Zheng’s folder and find out his address. We’ll go ahead and pay him a visit.”
“Sure!” Yan nodded immediately before she went to search for Lin Zheng’s address.
She returned with a folder in her hands while announcing, “I’ve found it! This is his address.”
“Let’s go.”
Han Muzi left the company with Yan. Han Muzi drove to work this morning, but since she wasn’t familiar with the area stated in Lin Zheng’s address, the two of them had no choice but to hail a cab.
Once they got into the cab, the driver couldn’t help but glance several times at them from the rearview mirror. He finally asked them, “Why are you two young ladies headed to the slum?”
“Slum?” Yan asked in confusion.
The cab driver glanced at her before answering with a nod. “Didn’t you know? That is an infamous slum, and safety isn’t what they’re known for. Besides, there are always aggressive criminals lurking around; if the two of you aren’t from that area, I would suggest you avoid that place. It’s too dangerous for two young ladies to go there alone.”
Upon hearing that, Yan couldn’t help but glance at Han Muzi.
Han Muzi smiled faintly and answered the driver, “Sir, we are headed there to look for someone. I don’t suppose that would be a problem, would it?”
“Uh, it depends on your luck because I can’t guarantee what might happen there. However, I’ve always heard that people around that area are very aggressive and dangerous.”
Yan was worried immediately, and she bit her lower lip before asking Han Muzi, “Well… why don’t we get a few more people to go with us?”
“There’s no time because we will most probably waste more time if we were to gather more people.” Han Muzi lowered her eyes while pondering for a while. “Sir, is the slum you were referring to under demolition?”
“Umm, I don’t think so,” answered the driver while scratching his head. “To be honest, there shouldn’t be a slum in such an advanced and rich city like North City. However, that piece of land is rather secluded. Furthermore, the people there are rather vicious and dangerous. Residents from that area refused to evict their homes to facilitate the demolition, and since both parties have been in a stalemate, the slum has existed till now.”
After listening to his explanation, Han Muzi got the general idea of the situation now.
“I understand now. Thank you.”
At the same time, she knew that she could only go with Yan, and that she could not bring more people there.
If I were to bring others, we would… most probably be beaten up and chased out of the place.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 396
When they arrived at the address, Han Muzi got out of the car with Yan. The cab driver couldn’t help but advise them, “Are you really going in? Aren’t the two of you afraid? Why don’t you forget about entering that area? I’ll drive you back for free!”
Upon hearing that, Han Muzi glanced at the cab driver gratefully while answering, “Thank you, sir. But honestly, we are here to look for someone. It’s something urgent, and so we really have to go in.”
“Well, fine. In that case, you two be careful, please.”
“Thank you, sir. Have a safe drive!” Yan thanked the driver loudly while waving at him.
After that, Yan was about to enter the area when Han Muzi stopped her.
“What is it?”
Han Muzi started taking off her jacket at the side of the street.
Yan stared at her wide-eyed while asking her in shock, “M-Muzi, what are you doing?”
Han Muzi took her jacket off while signaling Yan to do the same. After that, Han Muzi crumpled the clothes she had on her.
“W-What are we doing?”
“This is a demolition area; how do you think they’ll treat us if we are dressed up like this?” Han Muzi asked while looking at Yan’s handbag. “Do you have some make-up remover with you?”
Yan nodded blankly. “Y-Yes, I do.”
“Give it to me.”
Yan immediately handed over a bottle of make-up remover, and then Han Muzi started removing her make-up straight away. The corners of Yan’s lips started twitching when she saw that, and she commented, “You really are going all out; you just went ahead and removed your make-up.”
Han Muzi had some light make-up on, and so it was not difficult having them removed. The two of them were bare-faced once they were done removing their make-up.
“I think this should do it. Let’s go.”
Hence, the two of them entered the area.
For a demolition area to exist for such a long time could only mean that the people within the area were tough. Hence, the two of them had to be extra careful once they got in there.
However, there was a downside to this area—it was difficult to locate the address.
Once Han Muzi and Yan entered the area, the two of them were still giving off a completely different vibe from the local people despite having their make-up removed. Thus, they attracted a lot of attention.
“Their gazes are so scary… We should be fine, right?” Yan felt goosebumps all over her body under everyone’s scrutiny. She tugged against Han Muzi’s sleeve instinctively.
“They are just looking at you; they can’t very well eat you up. Don’t be afraid.”
Compared to Yan, Han Muzi was much calmer, and she opened the folder to check the data. “There isn’t a house number as indicated on his address. I think we have to ask around where he lives.”
Yan’s eyes bulged in shock when she heard that.
“P-Pardon me? Are you suggesting we ask these people for directions? I know stares can’t swallow you up, but I have a feeling that we will be eaten up alive the moment we approach them.”
While Yan was still trembling in fear, Han Muzi had already made her way to a hunched-back old woman who was standing at the side of the street. Yan snapped back to reality and followed behind Han Muzi hastily.
Han Muzi flashed a kind smile at the old woman as she spoke with a gentle and friendly tone, “Good day to you. I’m wondering if you know Lin Zheng.”
From the beginning, the old woman was already shooting her cautious looks, but she immediately took a step back at the mention of ‘Lin Zheng’. She then shook her head hastily while answering her, “I don’t know him, I don’t know him. Stop asking me.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by her response.
Yan whispered softly in Han Muzi’s ear, “She obviously knows him.”
Upon hearing that, Han Muzi remained calm while smiling at the old woman. “Granny, please don’t be mistaken because we have no ill intentions. We are Lin Zheng’s colleagues, and we heard he had some problems with his family. Everyone at work is worried about him, and that is why my friend and I are representing the office to check on him.”
Upon hearing that Han Muzi said she was Lin Zheng’s colleague, the old woman let her guard down significantly. She gave Han Muzi and Yan a once-over before thinking to herself, These two look innocent and harmless enough. They shouldn’t be the kind of people who would harm others, I guess.
Hence, the old woman asked after drawing that conclusion, “Are you two really Lin Zheng’s colleagues?”
“Mm-hmm, it’s true. That is why we are rather worried for him.”
“Well… I’ll lead you to him, then.”
“Thank you.” Han Muzi thanked her and flashed her a grateful smile.
However, at that moment, a little boy barged out of the house suddenly while crying aloud, “Granny, don’t be fooled by those two. They aren’t Lin Zheng’s colleagues; they are just here to harm Lin Zheng.”
The old woman’s expression soured immediately when she heard that before she asked in fear, “Is that true?”
Han Muzi and Yan’s expressions changed drastically.
That young boy rushed over and blocked right in front of the old woman while shouting loudly, “Someone, help! These people are coming after Lin Zheng again! And they are even trying to bully Granny!”
The little boy’s voice was very loud, and it immediately attracted the attention of everyone around them.
The power of their unity was the reason they managed to persist and stay put without allowing the area to be demolished. People came rushing to them after the young boy’s screams.
“What are you doing? Aren’t you two youngsters ashamed of yourselves for bullying an old woman?”
“Are you looking for Lin Zheng? He no longer lives here. It’s best that you leave now; otherwise, you shouldn’t blame us if things get ugly.”
“You two look decent, but why are you serving those people? Do you enjoy being a lackey?”
Han Muzi realized that although the crowd in front of her was dressed modestly, they were unexpectedly harsh and hurtful with their words.
Han Muzi’s expression soured, but she didn’t try to explain herself.
On the other hand, Yan lost her cool when she heard them. She retorted loudly, “What are all of you implying? We aren’t bad people, and we weren’t bullying this old woman.”
“Nonsense!” the little boy charged to her front before shouting at the top of his voice. “I heard you scolding my granny just now!”
He sounded rude and fierce. Suddenly, he reached out and shoved Han Muzi away.
“Eh, Muzi!”
“Ah!”
Someone in the crowd cried out in surprise.
Han Muzi did not expect a little boy to be so strong, nor did she expect him to shove against her out of the blue. Hence, with her teetering on high heels, she lost her balance and fell backward onto the ground.
Due to the area they were at, there were wood chips and broken glass pieces all around them. Hence, Han Muzi’s hands pressed on some broken wood chips and glass pieces by accident, and she started bleeding immediately.
“You’re bleeding!” Yan’s eyes opened wide in shock when she saw that. She then crouched down hastily to help Han Muzi up while asking her, “Muzi, are you alright?”
The crowd exchanged sheepish looks when they saw what happened.
Yan was furious, and she bit her lower lip while scanning the crowd. “You have all gone overboard. I know that this is an eviction area, but it’s rather unreasonable for you to start beating people up with no good reason! Muzi, let me help you up. Let’s go to the hospital.”
Han Muzi stood up slowly with Yan’s help. Her palms were throbbing in pain, and her bottom stung as well.
“I’m fine,” Han Muzi replied while bearing the pain as she glanced at the crowd. “Everyone, we are honestly Lin Zheng’s colleagues, and we have no ill intentions at all. If you don’t believe me, we shall leave right now,” she explained.
“Hang on; you two are here looking for Lin Zheng, right? I’ll lead you there.” A young woman came forward suddenly.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 397
“Xi? What are you doing?” someone asked in confusion.
“Mr. Chen, they aren’t even angry at us despite having sustained such bad injuries. They are obviously not with the same group as people from before! They are good people!”
With that, the girl named Xi walked toward Han Muzi before uttering, “Before I take you to Lin Zheng, your hands need to be attended to. If you don’t mind, I can help you with that.”
Yan hesitated while staring at Han Muzi’s horribly cut-up palm before commenting, “The wounds look serious, so I think it’s best to head to the hospital.”
It would be bad if the wounds got infected.
The girl named Xi didn’t dare answer her; instead, she gazed at Han Muzi sincerely with wide eyes. After weighing her options, Han Muzi smiled at her with a reply, “Thank you for the help.”
Yan gave Han Muzi an incredulous stare when she heard that and called out, “Muzi.”
However, Han Muzi was already leaving with Xi. Hence, Yan had no choice but to follow them.
Once the three of them left, the crowd was left dumbfounded at the site.
“Li Hao, how could you shove others like that? You shouldn’t do that in the future!”
The little boy who pushed Han Muzi was called Li Hao. He pouted the moment the adult scolded him and exclaimed unhappily, “But she is a bad person!”
“Xi already said that they aren’t bad people! Did you really see her bullying your granny?”
Li Hao nodded.
The old woman didn’t want her grandson being scolded, but she didn’t want the crowd to misunderstand those two young women as well. In the end, she sighed helplessly. “They didn’t bully me. They were just chatting with me. The child is most probably mistaken.”
“In that case… were we wrong about them? Are they really Lin Zheng’s colleagues?”
…
“We truly are Lin Zheng’s colleagues. We heard from Xiao Yiyi that he had some trouble at home, and that is why we are here to pay him a visit.”
At the mention of the name ‘Xiao Yiyi’, Xi’s hands, which were busy cleaning Han Muzi’s wounds, paused for a while. Then, Xi nodded while answering, “I believe you. Yiyi drops by often, and she’s close with the people here. She is… really in love with Lin Zheng; in fact, she almost visits him at his house every day.”
Xi glanced at Han Muzi tentatively before asking her softly, “Isn’t it painful?”
Han Muzi was stumped for a while before asking her, “What do you mean?”
“You didn’t even make a noise while I’m attending to your wounds.” Xi stared at the cuts and gashes she was attending to in confusion. “There are glass pieces pierced into your hands, and there are so many wood splinters embedded in the wound too! You have to get them out later with a needle and a pair of tweezers.”
Han Muzi glanced at her palm without commenting.
Yan, who was just beside them, exclaimed in frustration, “How could it not be painful? I can feel the pain just by looking at it. She’s not complaining because she is a tolerant person!”
Throughout the years, Han Muzi had suppressed everything deep in her heart.
Yan could vividly recall an incident. When they just went abroad, Han Muzi had yet to become a fashion designer. She was bullied the first time participating in a job within her industry, and she sustained some serious injuries from that.
In the end, Han Muzi didn’t even say a thing until the job was completed.
Thinking back now, Yan’s heart broke into pieces again.
Xi didn’t comment further upon hearing that; instead, she continued treating the wounds.
Xi realized with a start that this woman in front of her must be extremely tolerant because from the start to that moment, it was obvious that the pain must have been unbearable. However, Han Muzi didn’t even bat an eyelash; there was merely cold sweat beaded across her fair forehead.
After dressing the wound, Xi advised in a quiet voice, “Keep your wounds bone-dry for the next few days. Have your hand checked in a hospital when you have the time. I merely gave you some medical emergency treatment.”
Han Muzi smiled faintly at her. “Thank you.”
Xi’s cheeks were flushed red, and it made her look especially innocent and kind. “Well, let me lead you to Lin Zheng now.”
“Thank you.” Han Muzi and Yan followed Xi from behind as she led them to Lin Zheng’s house.
Since Xi trusted them both, she started chatting a lot about Lin Zheng.
Through the conversation, Han Muzi and Yan came to realize that Lin Zheng’s living conditions hadn’t been great throughout his life. His mother was from a brothel, and she got married to Lin Zheng’s father.
Initially, Lin Zheng’s father was a young and diligent man; he was handsome and had attracted countless pretty young women when he was in his youth. However, for some unknown reason, Lin Zheng’s father fell for a woman from a brothel. The two of them fell head over heels in love with each other, and soon, they had Lin Zheng.
Initially, the married couple enjoyed their lives together, and Lin Zheng had a happy family when he was a child.
However, after several years, Lin Zheng’s mother couldn’t turn over a new leaf; she returned to the brothel to earn a living because she missed the extravagant lifestyle she enjoyed in the past. She thought Lin Zheng’s father was useless because he couldn’t provide her with the life she wanted.
Hence, the couple kept having cold wars with each other. They kept arguing and fighting, which turned physical later on.
After some time, Lin Zheng’s father turned to alcohol, and he became an alcoholic. Each time he returned home after drinking, he would go on a drunken fit. Lin Zheng’s mother would call him a drunkard who couldn’t even earn a living. Hence, she abandoned Lin Zheng and never came back.
Later on, Lin Zheng’s father drank to numb his pain all day long. Therefore, Lin Zheng lived his life in fear and uncertainty day after day.
With time, Lin Zheng’s father became addicted to gambling as well, and he owed large amounts of debts to loan sharks. Naturally, right now, Lin Zheng had to bear these debts.
Loan sharks.
That’s truly horrifying.
The more one owed the loan sharks, the higher the compound interest would be. As long as one failed to pay up, there would be rolled-up interest pushed forward to the next day.
If one couldn’t clear their debt for the month, the interest would be compounded to the next month.
Toward the end, with the rolled up interest, one might not even be able to afford just the interest.
They walked toward the front of an old house, and Xi came to a complete stop before explaining, “Lin Zheng might appear cold and distant usually… but it’s not that he doesn’t want to be friends with others. He just doesn’t want to drag others down. The loan sharks are always going after him to collect their debts. Hence, anyone who gets too close with Lin Zheng would get into trouble with the loan sharks as well.”
Han Muzi was astounded when she heard that, and she glanced at Xi reflexively.
Is that the reason the youngster is so anti-social?
I thought that… he is the way he is due to certain circumstances. Who would have thought…
“You two should wait here. I will go in to check things out first.”
Xi paused before entering the house.
Just when Xi was about to enter the house, Xiao Yiyi, who was crying her eyes out, walked out through the entrance, and she happened to come face-to-face with the trio.
The four of them were stunned to silence. Then, Xiao Yiyi marched to face Han Muzi directly before asking her in an irate tone, “Why are you here? You shouldn’t assume that Lin Zheng would accept your kindness or generosity. Get lost now.”
Han Muzi regarded her calmly without responding to her.
Yan remarked incredulously, “We are here to visit him. What has that got to do with you?”
Xiao Yiyi snorted in disdain before turning around to leave.
Once she was gone, Yan mumbled that Xiao Yiyi was an oddball under her breath.
Soon, there was a loud noise coming from the house, and it sounded as if something was being smashed violently on the ground. Shortly, a thin young man with a white shirt walked out of the house.
“Get lost! You are a bearer of bad luck! You’d better get lost right now!”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 398
“Oh my, Mr. Lin is having one of his outbursts again.”
Xi panicked instantly.
Han Muzi pondered before turning to Yan and suddenly suggested, “Let’s hide first.”
“What?”
Before Yan could respond to that, Han Muzi had already dragged her to a corner. Xi snapped back to her senses and followed suit to hide together with them.
She glanced at Han Muzi in admiration while commenting, “You are awesome! You actually saw through Lin Zheng’s thoughts.”
“What thoughts?” Yan asked in bewilderment. She was obviously still in a daze.
No one wants anyone else to see them at their lowest point.
Lin Zheng, the youth, has always been anti-social and distant toward others. He seems to be the type of man who values his pride and dignity.
How could a man like that possibly be willing to let others see him in such a vulnerable state?
Yan and my arrival will only further embarrass him.
Han Muzi pursed her lips after processing her thoughts. Then, she said, “Since he is fine, let’s go back to the company.”
Yan was dumbfounded when she heard that. “Are we going back to the company now? We haven’t even got to meet him yet.”
Han Muzi smiled faintly and replied to her, “We have to work overtime tonight, so we can’t waste time here. Let’s go.”
“Alright, I shall go along with it.”
Xi did not stop them when she heard that they were leaving. On the contrary, she thanked Han Muzi gratefully.
“Thank you. You both are such kind people. Please be careful on your way back, and remember to have the wounds on your hands treated in the hospital.”
“Sure, I will.”
When the two of them left the slum, they were surprised because there was a cab parked right in front of them.
The cab driver must have heard footsteps because he poked his head out of the car window.
“You two are finally back.”
Han Muzi and Yan exchanged glances in silence.
Why does this scene feel familiar somehow?
Oh, that’s right. Something similar happened when Yan and I went looking for Zhao Yiru at the filming set.
Are cab drivers in North City so customer-oriented in general?
“Are you alright? I figured this area’s too dangerous, and I felt it was unsafe for two young women to enter that area alone, so I waited for you both. I was planning to call the police if you didn’t head back out.”
After that, the driver scratched his head while chuckling shyly.
“However, right now, it seems like I have been acting like a busybody. Well… that is my flaw. Clearly, there’s nothing to worry about, but I ended up overthinking. I would feel bad for leaving if I knew you were both in potential danger.”
Han Muzi approached him and thanked him sincerely.
“Sir, thank you so much. We are fine. Can you please drive us back to where you picked us up earlier?”
“Sure, get in.”
The cab driver drove them back to the company. Just before Han Muzi got out of the car, she asked for the cab driver’s business card. Then, she walked into her company building.
“Don’t you think that ever since we have returned home, the quality of the cab drivers we have met thus far has been top notch? Previously, I’ve always read about those horrifying news about cab drivers murdering their passengers. It has been traumatizing for me… But it turns out there are kind people around after all.”
Upon hearing that, Han Muzi smiled faintly. “Fortune and misfortune come hand-in-hand. Where there is darkness, there will definitely be rays of sunshine. These things… are often dependent on luck as well.”
It was already getting late by the time the two of them entered the company. Han Muzi went ahead to the canteen for some food. Unfortunately, her hands were so painful that she couldn’t even hold her chopsticks, so she didn’t even manage to eat anything in the end.
“You can’t go on like this. You can’t possibly work with the state of your hands. I think we shouldn’t work overtime tonight.”
“No, let’s head upstairs first.”
Han Muzi returned to her office, whereas Yan bought a sandwich for her from a shop nearby. Han Muzi was able to hold the sandwich, and so she had some to eat.
After that, just when Han Muzi was about to start work, someone knocked on her office door.
“Come in.”
Her office door opened, and she heard heavy footsteps entering her room.
The footsteps stopped right in front of her desk. Han Muzi was astounded, and she sensed there was something amiss. She looked and gazed into a pair of helpless eyes which were staring back at her.
The person standing in front of her was none other than Han Qing, who was in a suit.
His dark eyes were observing her face helplessly, and his gaze shifted downward to her heavily-bandaged hands. He seemed distressed when he asked, “Are you forcing yourself to work despite your injuries?”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless at that moment.
Why is Han Qing here?
She thought for a moment and turned to glance at Yan, who was standing just beside her. Yan immediately picked a folder up to shield her face behind it while clearing her throat softly.
That tattletale. She must have told Han Qing about my injuries.
Yan commented quietly, “I did not say anything. I merely updated Little Bean.”
I’ve already embarrassed myself in front of my crush, so of course I wouldn’t dare text him after that incident. Besides, I am already feeling extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed right now.
“Qing,” Han Muzi greeted him with a smile while standing up. “What are you doing here? I still have some work, unfortunately. So I can’t keep you company just yet.”
“Do you honestly think I came all the way here for your company?” Han Qing made his way around the table toward Han Muzi. He held her wrist straight away and growled firmly, “Let’s go home.”
Han Muzi’s expression changed slightly, but she explained, “I can’t. I have to stay and work overtime tonight.”
“Why are you working overtime when you are so badly injured?” Han Qing’s expression darkened instantly, and he stared at her with a disgruntled look. “I started a company because I wanted you to settle down in North City. I didn’t do all that for you to be so careless and injure yourself. You don’t even care that you’re hurt.”
Han Muzi reassured him, “Qing, I’m honestly fine.”
“Cancel working overtime tonight. You either come home with me, or you’re going to the hospital.”
“I’m not going,” insisted Han Muzi stubbornly. “I just sustained some light injuries on my fingers. It’s not severe enough to abandon work.”
The next second, Han Qing tightened his grip and dragged Han Muzi to the door straight away. Han Muzi’s expression soured immediately while she shouted, “Qing, Qing! Let me go!”
However, Han Qing seemed oblivious to her screams because he continued dragging her out of the office. Upon seeing that, Yan got up and started packing Han Muzi’s bag and belongings from the table. After that, she chased after them from behind until they were out of the building.
After finally walking Han Muzi to the car, Yan handed her things to Han Qing with a smile. “Thank you for your help, President Han!”
She vanished into the building after thanking him while pretending that she was oblivious to Han Muzi’s death stare.
Once she returned upstairs, Yan noticed the group of staff members gathered at the window in a heated discussion.
“What is happening? Did Han Qing actually show up? What’s up with him acting so fierce? I’m guessing that woman angered her. In that case, wouldn’t we be switching bosses soon? Tsk, I told you that things obtained through unusual means wouldn’t last,” Zhang Yu spat with a sharp tongue while openly mocking Han Muzi.
Leng Yueyue, who was just beside Zhang Yu, smirked. “Didn’t she tell us to work overtime? Why is she the first to leave?”
“What nonsense are all of you spouting? Muzi injured her hands, and that is why she couldn’t work. All of you should continue working overtime. I will go through your work tonight!”
“You? Are you even qualified?”
“If you are reluctant to do so, feel free to pack your stuff and leave right now.”
“How dare you!”
Yan lifted her chin up in defiance. Oh my, it is refreshing and great to be in a position of power.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 399
The night was as cold as ice.
It was silent across the large Seabay Villa, aside from the sound of the sea breeze, which was accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the waves hitting against the coast.
The sea breeze was strong tonight, making the air moist with a strong scent of the sea.
At that moment, Ye Moxuan, who just had a shower, was sitting on the couch while staring unblinkingly at his mobile phone in his hands.
The WeChat interface was displayed across his phone screen.
Ye Moxuan opened the message sent by Lin Qingqing, which was a business card she forwarded to him.
Upon opening the business card, he scanned through Han Muzi’s personal information. He stared at his screen for ages, but he didn’t add her contact to his contact list.
The information showed that her nickname was ‘Shelly’ in English. Her profile picture was a beautiful shell, which was held by a pair of fair, slender and delicate hands.
Ye Moxuan was very familiar with this pair of hands.
Five year ago, he held this pair of hands countless times in his, and the very same pair of hands had caressed and scratched his skin.
He shut his eyes. In the end, Ye Moxuan couldn’t help extending his fingers closer to the ‘Add Friend’ button.
Ever since he returned home in the afternoon, Ye Moxuan had been glued to the couch, as if he was losing his mind. However, he just couldn’t pluck up his courage to add the woman’s contact.
It is just as Aunty said. Five years have passed, and now, she is most probably no longer the same person as before.
Besides, if I add her as my contact, will she reject me?
Ye Moxuan never knew that he could be so trapped and indecisive when handling issues. He frowned and placed his phone on the table while making a deep and throaty groan, as though he was tortured.
Ye Moxuan, have you been bewitched?
This woman walked out of your life five years ago. In fact, she left decisively. Five years have passed, and she must be a completely different person now.
In the end, Ye Moxuan picked up his phone again and stared at the WeChat interface while narrowing his eyes menacingly.
Just when he was about to exit the interface, his finger tapped on the ‘Add Friend’ button by accident. His heart started racing rapidly. In the end, he followed his heart and sent her a ‘Friend Request’ directly.
After sending her a friend request, Ye Moxuan’s heart felt as if a spark had landed on a dry prairie, which resulted in a massive flame soaring upward.
A few seconds went by. Soon, Ye Moxuan had waited with his phone in his hands for ten minutes.
She did not approve his friend request.
Ye Moxuan’s expression soured slightly, and he cursed under his breath, “Damn it!”
Does this woman know that this is my account? Is that why she would not accept my friend request?
Ye Moxuan almost lost his mind when the thought flashed across his mind. He got up immediately with his car key, as though he was about to head out. However, he paused after several steps and phoned Xiao Su instead.
“Prepare several WeChat accounts for me. I want them within five minutes.”
“What?” Xiao Su thought he had misheard Ye Moxuan’s unreasonable request, and so he was stumped for a while.
“Do you not understand human language?” Ye Moxuan asked in annoyance.
Xiao Su nodded promptly while answering him, “I do.”
“Then shouldn’t you be getting to work?!”

After Ye Moxuan hung up on the call, Xiao Su was at a loss for words as he listened to the busy tone through his mobile phone.
What does Young Master Ye want with multiple WeChat accounts in the middle of the night? Is the company developing some new businesses? Why haven’t I heard anything about it?
However, Ye Moxuan’s irritable attitude earlier was like a ticking time bomb, and so Xiao Su didn’t have the courage to ask further. Instead, he went right to work.
After five minutes, Ye Moxuan finally received the WeChat accounts from Xiao Su, and he laughed mirthlessly as he muttered, “You are too slow.”
Then, Ye Moxuan put his phone down.
After that, Ye Moxuan switched on his laptop and logged onto WeChat.
Xiao Su had applied for a dozen or so WeChat accounts for him. Although Ye Moxuan wasn’t sure how Xiao Su procured them, he couldn’t care less as long as he could use them.
Ye Moxuan started by logging onto the first account. After searching for Han Muzi’s WeChat account, he added her as a friend.
In the end, he waited for ten minutes without receiving a reply. Hence, he switched to another account, but he changed tactics this time. He sent over a verification message asking, ‘Are you a fashion designer?’
However, he waited for another ten minutes to no avail.
Damn it!
Ye Moxuan was losing his mind.
What is that woman doing?
Ye Moxuan grabbed his phone to check the time, and he realized that it was about 10PM now.
Could she be asleep? That’s impossible. My earlier friend request was sent before 10PM.
Ye Moxuan phoned Xiao Su upon coming to his conclusion.
Xiao Su was at a loss for words when he received Ye Moxuan’s phone call again. “Young Master Ye, how can I help you?”
“I have a question for you,” Ye Moxuan blurted with a cold and distant tone. “What could a person possibly be doing at 10PM?”
Xiao Su was dumbstruck upon receiving that question. “Y-Young Master Ye, what do you mean by that question?”
Ye Moxuan lighted a cigarette, and the cigarette smoke wafted across his handsome eyes, making him appear rather mysterious.
“Just answer my question.”
Xiao Su sounded shocked and afraid when he replied to him, “I suppose people are asleep at 10PM!”
“Huh?” Is she truly asleep? In that case, does that mean I have no choice but to wait until the next morning?
But I have a feeling that that woman wouldn’t sleeps so early.
After a short pause, Xiao Su answered suddenly, “If one has yet to sleep by 10PM, there are many things one could possibly do.”
Ye Moxuan scowled at his reply. “Such as?”
Xiao Su sensed that Ye Moxuan was extremely curious about this topic, and so he replied to Ye Moxuan seriously with every imaginable and possible answer he could think of.
“Young Master Ye, this is based on my inferences. 10PM is the bedtime for disciplined people in general; but nowadays, young people in large cities don’t sleep so early. Hence, at this hour, they are either enjoying nightlife in the city, or they might be working overtime. On the other hand, married people might be coaxing their children to sleep at this hour. Uh, or they might be carrying out certain marital duties…”
Xiao Su stated the last part of the sentence as an afterthought.
However, Ye Moxuan, who was listening to him on the other end of the phone call, narrowed his eyes ominously. “Marial duties?”
Xiao Su felt an inexplicable murderous intent in Ye Moxuan’s tone.
What is happening? Although Ye Moxuan has been moody for the past few years, he has been emotionally stable in a relative sense. However, why is he so irritable tonight?
“Young Master Ye, what happened?”
“Answer my question. Were you telling the truth?”
Xiao Su answered in embarrassment, “I suppose so. At least 90% of it is the truth!”
“So if a person doesn’t reply to your text message, it means that they are carrying out marital duties?”
“Uh… Young Master Ye, I mentioned an entire list of possibilities. Why are you…”
Why are you only focusing on this point? Could it be…
Xiao Su realized an important point suddenly.
“Is someone not replying to your messages, Young Master Ye?”
Ye Moxuan cocked a brow and sneered, “Do you have a death wish?”
“N-No, I don’t!”

Ye Moxuan hung up on him straight away again. Xiao Su was getting more confused while left with nothing but the busy tone over the line.
Why is he asking me such a strange question out of the blue?
Young Master Ye is doing the exact same things, just like five years ago, when he was in love with the Young Lady!
Could it be that Young Master Ye is in love with someone else??!!
Xiao Su’s expression changed drastically at the thought of it, and he stood up abruptly.
Who could it be? Who managed to catch Ye Moxuan’s attention?!
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 400
At the Han residence.
It was already late at night, but Han Qing managed to get a house call for Han Muzi. The doctor cleaned and treated the wounds on Han Muzi’s hands.
“Alright, Miss Han, you shouldn’t wet your wounds for the next few days. It’s best to take it easy and not use your hands for work. The wounds will recover after a few days, but you should consume mild foods in the meantime.”
“Thank you very much.” Han Qing then instructed Mr. Jin to send the doctor back home.
“Did you hear what the doctor said?”
Han Muzi was sitting on the couch, and she answered him helplessly, “I heard him. In that case, can I shower tonight? I can’t be not showering for the next few days, can I?”
Han Qing weighed his options before answering her promptly, “Ask Yan to come over and help you.”
Han Muzi hesitated before replying to him, “I don’t think that’s necessary. To be honest, I think I can manage. I just have to tie a plastic bag over my hands.”
Han Qing’s mood darkened while he stared unblinkingly at Han Muzi. Han Muzi felt awkward under such scrutiny, and so she tried laughing it off. “Alright, I won’t shower. I’m going upstairs to rest now; I’m tired.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Han Muzi realized that Little Bean was already asleep by the time she entered her room.
She approached the bed while gazing at Little Bean’s asleep and serene face. His face… truly resembles that person.
For the past five years, Han Qing has been urging me to return home. However, I refused to do so because I didn’t want to bump into that person.
Initially, I thought that since North City is so large, chances are slight for me to bump into him even if I returned home. However, I was not expecting… to bump into him so soon upon arriving home.
We even interacted face-to-face…
The entire ordeal was not what I had expected at all.
Ye Moxuan.
Han Muzi’s expression fell when she thought of him, and then she stood up and walked slowly to the bathroom. She was at the entrance of the bathroom when someone knocked on her bedroom door.
Han Muzi was startled, but she turned around to open the door.
A servant was standing at the door while regarding her with respect.
“Miss Muzi, would you like to take a bath? I can help you with that.”
Han Muzi was stumped, but she nodded anyway. “In that case, please come in and draw a bath for me. Please be quieter because Little Bean is already asleep.”
After a moment of hesitation, the servant suggested softly, “Miss Muzi, why don’t you shower in the guest room? You can return to your bedroom when you are done. I can help you there too.”
“That works as well. I’ll grab my clothes.”
Han Muzi went into her room to grab a change of fresh clothes. Then, she followed the servant to the guest room.
The servant drew her a bath. Han Muzi managed to take a bath with her help, and she had a change of fresh clothes as well.
“What is the time now?”
“Miss Muzi, it’s almost midnight.”
Almost midnight? I wonder if Yan is back home yet. Han Muzi took her phone out once she returned to her bedroom, and she tried unlocking her phone clumsily. However, since it was secured with a fingerprint lock, and her fingers were bandaged with gauze, she simply couldn’t unlock her phone.
In the end, Han Muzi didn’t even unlock her phone. Instead, she went to the study to see Han Qing.
True enough, the lights in the study were still on.
“Qing.”
“Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be resting?” Han Qing scowled unhappily at her.
“Qing, we were supposed to work overtime in the company today, but I’m not in the company now. Isn’t it unsafe for Yan to return home alone? Can you…”
Han Qing immediately understood what she meant, and so he nodded to reassure her. “Sure, I’ll pick her up. You should rest.”
“Thank you, Qing.”
Han Muzi nodded in satisfaction before returning to her bedroom to sleep.
Yan, please don’t accuse me of not helping you. I am presenting this opportunity to you on a silver platter.
…
The next day, when Han Muzi woke up from her sleep, she saw Little Bean sprawled beside her while staring at her in concern.
Han Muzi was surprised, but she called for him in a gentle tone, “Little Bean?”
Little Bean’s eyes turned red with tears the moment he heard her voice. Then, he lowered his gaze to her bandaged hands. “Mommy, you’re injured.”
Han Muzi, upon hearing what he said, recalled with a start that her hands were still heavily bandaged, and she let out a helpless sigh.
“It’s just some minor injuries; it’s not a big deal.”
“Mommy, you are lying!” Little Bean snorted, and he pointed at her in exasperation. “If it were minor, you wouldn’t have such a thick bandage. Mommy… what happened? Tell me, please. I will avenge you!”
Han Muzi smiled faintly. “Nothing happened. I cut my fingers by accidentally slipping and falling against some broken glass. I’ll be fine in a couple of days.”
Little Bean threw himself at her and hugged her neck tightly while rubbing his cheeks against her fondly. “Mommy, can you take me along to work next time?”
“I can’t do that.” Han Muzi’s hands were wrapped with bandages, but she could still lift her arm up to caress Little Bean’s head gently. “I don’t have time to look after you while I’m working, Little Bean. You should take good care of yourself at home. Besides… now that we’ve returned from abroad, I think we will be settling here. Initially, I wanted to search for a school for you at Su City, but… since your uncle has started a company for us, I should consider buying a small house here instead. Once I find a good school for you, I’ll buy a house nearby.’
Little Bean protested loudly at the mention of attending school, “Mommy, I don’t want to go to school. I want to be together with you forever.”
Little Bean wrapped his arms tightly around Han Muzi’s neck.
“Cough, cough. I would be strangled to death if you don’t loosen your arms soon,” Han Muzi scolded, and so Little Bean relaxed his grip.
“You can’t not go to school. If you became illiterate, do you expect me to look after you for the rest of your life?”
“Hmph, I don’t need you to do that, mommy! I will be able to support myself; in fact, I will even support you!”
Han Muzi burst out laughing at his response. “Sure, in that case, you will have to support me once I am old, Little Bean. That is why you have to attend classes in school. I thought you wanted to serve the country as a policeman, don’t you?”
“That’s right.” Little Bean nodded obediently. “In that case, it’s best for me to listen to your advice, mommy.”
“Such a good boy.”
Knock-knock.
“Muzi?”
“That’s Aunt Yan. Let me get the door.” Little Bean jumped off the bed swiftly and opened the room door.
“Aunt Yan.”
“Ah, hello, Little Bean!” Yan snuck into the room stealthily before patting Little Bean’s head. Then, she approached Han Muzi.
Han Muzi sat up and leaned against the bedside.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to check on your hands.” Yan got closer and sat on her bedside. When Little Bean, who was nearby, saw that, he gave them space obediently and entertained himself at the other side of the room.
“My hands are fine. The doctor treated me last night. I should recover in a few days.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t go to work for the next few days. You should recuperate at home.”
“No.” Han Muzi shook her head adamantly. “I have to go to work. I have to personally look through their newly-drawn designs.”
“Can’t I send those home to you?”
“No. By the way, I can’t unlock my phone, thanks to the bandages. Can you please bring my phone over here and check if anyone has phoned me? Perhaps check if our clients have any new requests.”
Yan brought her phone over from the table. She knew the passcode for Han Muzi’s phone, and so she entered the code to unlock the phone.
“Oh my, your WeChat is exploding with notifications! So many people added you on WeChat!”
