Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 971
The moment Ye Moxuan saw her tears, he immediately understood that he had done something wrong this time around. So, he could only hold her and comfort her, apologizing endlessly. There was nobody else in the silent room. There was only his apologetic voice, sounding extremely gentle as if he was afraid of frightening her, and occasionally some sobbing sounds echoing throughout the room.
Despite comforting her for a long time, he still couldn’t calm her down; he started feeling like killing himself for doing this to her. “It’s all my fault. When we get back, I’ll do everything you say, alright? You can do whatever you want with me, alright?”
Han Muzi had not intended to cry, however, her emotions had gotten the better of her at that moment, and she lost control of herself. Moreover, the more he talked, the more her heart seemed to hurt. It felt like she had suffered a great grievance. That was how people were—when they had nobody to care for them, they would simply hide in a corner to lick their wounds, but if the situation was reversed, they would become vulnerable and prone to crying easily.
Right now, she was in the latter situation. Before she saw him, she had been cold and calm, but after meeting him, she became as fragile as glass. Taking a deep breath, she was about to stem the flow of tears when he suddenly leaned down and kissed her. She was stunned, but it was too late to push him away.
Her lips were taken by his while her salty tears slid down her cheeks then into her mouth. As such, the flavor of the kiss changed. She came back to her senses and reached out to push him away. But, he caught both her hands and held them behind her back, then deepening the kiss. One second, two seconds…
“Mmph…” Her tears had stopped without her knowing it. Perhaps it had stopped due to the kiss that came out of the blue, or she had simply cried enough.
After a long while, Ye Moxuan released her. Resting his forehead against hers, his eyes were gloomy and his pale, thin lips trembled. “Sorry, I won’t do anything like that ever again. Can you please forgive me?”
His kiss had left her reeling in confusion. She lifted her eyes to look at him and saw that he had dark circles under his eyes, indicating that he had not been sleeping well. There was a dense five o’clock shadow on his chin, and his complexion was terrible too. One glance and anyone could tell that he had been having a hard time over the past few days.
She bit down on her lower lip. “Next time, if you ever do something like this again, I will never forgive you. I’ll also take Little Bean and the baby in my womb with me and disappear far, far away.”
At her words, he narrowed his eyes slightly. “You can’t!”
“I was talking about what-ifs; if you ever pull something like this again—”
“I won’t,” he cut off her words and firmly said. “Since you don’t like it, I won’t do it anymore.” Finishing his sentence, he looked at Han Muzi, who stood mere inches away from him and couldn’t resist leaning over to kiss the corner of her mouth. His movements were light, loving, and tender. After kissing the corner of her mouth, he seemed slightly unsatisfied. Then, he held her hand and placed his thin lips on her forehead. His voice was hoarse as he said, “Never again. In the future, I will always listen to you.”
In truth, when a guy kisses a girl’s forehead, it was a very romantic thing to do. In the past, Ye Moxuan rarely did that to her. She didn’t expect him to apologize while kissing her forehead today—it made her heart melt into a puddle. Her body became less stiff as she nestled warmly in his embrace. “Those are your words.”
“Yes, I promise.”
Closing her eyes, she lay in his arms, recharging herself after a painful yearning for him all week. After a while, she asked, “Do you really… want to regain your memories?”
Of course, he thought. If he didn’t want to recover his memories, why would he put himself through all that suffering? Unfortunately, she didn’t want him to go through all these sufferings. Right now, there was only one answer he could give. “You said it yourself; the past isn’t that important. It doesn’t matter whether I get them back or not.”
Han Muzi lifted her head. “Does it not matter to you? I was going to say, if you want to get back your memories… I may be able to help you.”
“Huh?” Ye Moxuan stared at her, confused about what she meant.
She wiggled out of his embrace and looked him seriously in the eyes as she said, “Go back to our home country with me.”
Back to our home country?
“Back home is where we experienced many things together. If you go back with me, I’ll bring you to all the places we’ve been together, to all the paths we’ve taken, and to do all the things we used to do together. One day, you’ll remember everything.”
Jason had mentioned this method before, but at that time, he felt that it was an unreliable method as he did not know how long it would take for him to recover his memories. However, now that she mentioned it, he found that it was not a bad idea. Not only could he stay by her side and develop their relationship further, but he also had the chance to recover his memories too. Why wouldn’t he do it?
“Sure.” He agreed easily after giving it some thought.
Han Muzi was stunned as if she had not expected him to agree so easily, so she asked suspiciously, “A-Are you really willing to go back with me?” She had only intended to casually bring it up and make a suggestion, but unexpectedly, he…
“But your grandfather…” The status of the Yuchi Family was so high that it would be better for him to stay here compared to going back. Moreover, his grandfather would not allow her to bring him back.
“I will handle all the external factors; you don’t have to worry about it.”
However, she still seemed hesitant. “But…”
“When you were asking me to go back with you, you were so adamant about it. So why are you beginning to waver now?”
“That’s because… I didn’t expect you to agree so quickly. I assumed… you wouldn’t want to go back to our home country with me.”
He fell silent, but his brows furrowed tightly together and his lips pressed into a tight line. I see… She’s afraid of me. No, it’s probably because, in a deep corner of her heart, she can’t trust me enough right now, so she didn’t believe that I would go back with her. At that thought, he grabbed her hand and his eyes gradually darkened. “You don’t have to be suspicious of me, or worry about it. I will do whatever you say. I tried to keep the incident this time from you, not on purpose, but simply because I didn’t want to add to your worries. I had no other intentions.”
Han Muzi also knew that the reason he kept everything from her and acted alone was that he didn’t want her to worry about him. Furthermore, he was probably worried that she would stop him, so he had insisted on doing it all by himself. She frowned. “You were fine before, why would you suddenly want to recover your memories so quickly?” He had acted far too desperately, so it felt like something was amiss. “Did someone say something to you?”
Ye Moxuan recalled what Little Bean had said to him and his heart seemed to bleed as if it was being sliced apart again. Naturally, he couldn’t tell her about that, so he could only deny it. “No. I just felt that having lost a huge part of my memories was unfair to you.”
Hearing his words, she glared at him resentfully. “What is so unfair about it? I, myself, have never said anything of the sort, so why would you be bothered about it? Don’t you know what the most important thing to me is right now?”
What?
“It’s you.” Han Muzi reached out to hold his arm and chewed on her lip for a bit before she slowly said, “Ever since your accident, up until now, I have only wished for you to be safe and sound. I used to wish that you would regain your memories, but that was when you had no feelings for me. Later… when we became a couple again, I realized that it didn’t matter whether you remember the past or not. It wasn’t that important anymore.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 972
It really wasn’t that important. What could be more important than two people being together, their hearts beating as one? Nothing. There was nothing more important than that.
Han Muzi smiled faintly. “Your memories are the icing on the cake. If you want to get your memories back, then I’ll bring you back. Every day, I will bring you along the paths we used to walk. One day, you’ll remember it all again.”
“Okay.”
…
Yan and the others had been waiting outside for quite a while, but there was no noticeable movement on the inside. Besides, the people waiting outside were in a tacit agreement to remain silent. After a long while, she worriedly twiddled her fingers and bit on her lower lip as she glanced around at the people around her, looking as if she had something to say but was hesitant to speak. In the end, she couldn’t stop herself from voicing out softly, “Erm… Do you think something has happened to the two of them? Should we… go in and have a look?”
A long time had passed, yet the two of them had yet to come out. Yan was quite worried about them. Not one of them responded; it was as if they couldn’t make up their minds. She continued, “After all, Muzi is pregnant right now, I’m afraid she might get too emotional…”
The moment the words left her mouth, Han Qing, who had been as still as a statue all this while, had already turned around and proceeded to go inside.
Yan was speechless. He sure cares for his little sister. However, she wasn’t about to get jealous of Muzi; she was simply envious. If only Han Qing would give 1% of the concern he showed toward Muzi to me, I would be extremely satisfied.
As they prepared to head inside, the sound of footsteps came from within. She stopped in her tracks, then saw Han Muzi and Ye Moxuan walking out together. Ye Moxuan’s complexion was much better than before. Currently, his hand was wrapped around Han Muzi’s waist, and the coldness in his eyes had faded considerably.
Noticing that everyone was waiting there, looking as if they were about to head inside, Han Muzi flashed them a small smile and gently said, “You’ve all worked hard today. Let’s go back now.” Although her face had a smile on it, anyone could tell that her eyes were red—it was obvious that she had cried her eyes out. Not just that, her lips were slightly swollen too…
As their gazes shifted lower, they immediately understood what had happened inside. Yan was dumbstruck for a moment. To think I wanted to rush inside! Thank goodness I didn’t. If she had been just a bit earlier in suggesting to go in, wouldn’t she have interrupted their moment together?
Afterward, everyone got into the two cars they came in. Ye Moxuan and Han Muzi refused to be separated, while Xiao Su, who was Ye Moxuan’s assistant, naturally had to drive in Ye Moxuan’s stead.
As the two of them were already in the backseat, the car could not fit another two people in the back. Therefore, Han Qing and Yan had to sit in the other car. This was a great opportunity for Yan. She practically skipped after Han Qing as they walked over to the car, and prepared to get in together.
Jason, who was standing by the side, narrowed his eyes and his gaze inadvertently shifted toward Xiao Su, feeling a sudden twinge of pity for him.
Xiao Su had gotten into the driver’s seat, but his gaze unwittingly stared out the window toward Yan and Han Qing as they were getting into Jason’s car. He lowered his gaze and held back the swirling emotions in his eyes. Suddenly coming up with an idea, Jason walked over to the window with a cheeky smile. He leaned down and threw the car keys at Xiao Su. “Hey, don’t say I didn’t help you. Go on.”
Xiao Su caught the keys thrown at him; his eyes were full of questions.
“Go on! Don’t miss such a good opportunity.”
The base of his ears turned red and he subconsciously looked at the two people sitting in the backseat. “Young Master Ye, Young Lady Ye…”
Not wanting to express his stance in this matter, Ye Moxuan just held Han Muzi as he played with the strands of her hair. Feeling a little embarrassed, Han Muzi replied with a dry smile, “Xiao Su, if you want to go, then go.”
“Tsk.” Leaning against the window, Jason shook his head in annoyance as he watched them. He retorted, “If it wasn’t to help him out, I really wouldn’t want to get into the car and watch these sappy lovebirds.” Before he had even gotten into the car, he had been forced to witness their lovey-doveyness. What about when he had to drive later? It looked like he was going to be sick from all that public display of affection.
Ye Moxuan raised his eyes and glanced at him coldly. His gaze was sharp; the incident where Jason had squealed on him was still fresh in his mind. He frostily said, “You can walk back then.”
Tsk-tsk-tsk. Jason shook his head in exasperation and looked toward Han Muzi pleadingly. “Muzi, I think he is still blaming me for tattling on him to you guys. It seems to me like someone isn’t too happy that he couldn’t finish what he wanted to do today.”
The moment the words fell out of his mouth. Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes dangerously, his gaze overflowing with hostility. “What did you say?” This b*stard dares to try and sow discord between Muzi and me!
Han Muzi could understand Ye Moxuan’s feelings, but she also knew that his friend wasn’t trying to stir the pot between them; he was just teasing them. So, she didn’t get angry, nor did she pick a fight with Ye Moxuan. Instead, she smiled lightly as she continued the conversation, “So what if he is still unhappy? I’ve found out about everything anyway; even if he wants to do it again in the future, he can’t. I have to thank you for today; if it wasn’t for the location sharing you sent to Xiao Su, we wouldn’t have been able to find this place. No matter how you put it, this matter has been resolved.” When she finished speaking, she reached out and pinched Ye Moxuan’s arm. “You’re still unhappy? Does that mean everything you said to me just now was a lie?”
In the face of Han Muzi, Ye Moxuan immediately surrendered. “No. Everything I said just now was sincere, but that doesn’t prevent me from finding this guy to be an eyesore. Besides, didn’t you hear what he said just now? He finds us repulsive. Letting him walk back is a good idea.” He then put his arm around her waist again and buried his face in her neck, acting like a child as he sniffed greedily at the fragrance that belonged only to her.
Being all lovey-dovey in the presence of others made her feel very uncomfortable. She slapped his hand away, then placed her hand against his forehead as she pushed him off her. “Sit properly.”
He looked at her with an expression of insatiable desire.
“Get in. Let’s go back.”
Looking at the deflated Ye Moxuan, Jason laughed. “Muzi is a righteous person after all, unlike someone…”
Using the keys to unlock the driver’s seat and climbing in, he started up the car as he sighed. “I can’t believe that the Bachelor of Ten Thousand Years actually fell in love now. Based on your personality where you treated all women like they were evil, I thought you would never get married. Even if you did get married, I thought you might even end up marrying a man!” Then, he laughed heartily at his own words.
Without bothering to be polite with Jason, Ye Moxuan’s expression turned dark. “Shut up.” He had no memories of the past; although he wanted to know what kind of person he was in the past when he heard Jason’s words right now, he felt like Jason was intentionally insulting him.
Jason glanced at her through the rear-view mirror. “Muzi, he doesn’t know since he lost his memories, but you must be quite familiar with it, right?”
Hearing that, Han Muzi was taken aback for a moment. Unwittingly, she recalled the period when she had just married into the Ye Family. At that time, she could be said to be living in utter hell every single day. Looking back on it now, she could only heave a heavy sigh. At that time, there was a huge misunderstanding between her and Ye Moxuan, but it was really…
As she thought back on it, she smiled and played along. “Yes, I’m very familiar with it.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 973
Very familiar with it? When Ye Moxuan heard these four words, his brows inadvertently furrowed and there was a strange emotion in his eyes as he looked at Han Muzi. Jason mentioned he used to treat women like they were evil, and she agreed, saying she was familiar with it. Did that mean, in the past, he had treated her…
That’s right. He remembered what Little Bean had said to him. The boy had said that he had treated his Mommy badly, even horribly. It seemed like he had done a lot of things to hurt Han Muzi in the past. At that thought, he clenched his hands into a fist and laughed mockingly in his heart, probably laughing at himself.
“Alright, these are all things that have happened in the past. No matter what happened then, it isn’t important anymore.”
Is it not important? He stared at Han Muzi’s side profile, pursed his thin lips, and said nothing.
…
On the other side, Yan followed Han Qing into the car, but she didn’t dare to blatantly sit next to him in the backseat, so she could only tactfully sit in the passenger seat. For her, just being in the same car with Han Qing was enough to satisfy her.
Unfortunately, the one walking over to them turned out to be Xiao Su. He opened the door with the keys and got into the driver’s seat. When he saw Yan in the passenger’s seat, he was stunned, then he glanced at Han Qing with an indifferent expression from the corner of his eye.
Han Qing sat there with his impassive face as usual. Seeing Xiao Su coming over had surprised him slightly. However, taking into account Xiao Su’s behavior over the past few days, he had a good inkling in his heart as to why Xiao Su was here.
“Why are you here?” Yan asked, blinking her eyes in surprise. She was doubtful at the sight of Xiao Su.
Without batting an eye, Xiao Su lied, “Jason had something to discuss with Young Master Ye, so he asked me to come over.”
“Oh, I didn’t think he’d still dare to sit in that car. After tattling on Young Master Ye, and with the man’s terrifying appearance, I thought he would want to escape as far as possible.” Yan supported her chin with one hand as she mulled over it for a while without realizing anything else.
Looking at her like that, Xiao Su thought that it was fine like this—at least they could avoid feeling awkward around each other. The car was just about to start when Han Qing suddenly spoke up indifferently, “I have something to discuss with Muzi.” Then, he opened the door and got out of the car.
When Yan saw him getting out of the car, she immediately wore an anxious expression on her face. She subconsciously began to move when she saw him pushing open the car door. As Han Qing got out of the car, so did Yan. Standing next to the car, she looked at him fretfully.
Xiao Su felt a dull pain in his heart as he watched this scene unfold. Sitting motionlessly in the driver’s seat, he simply observed the two of them through the mirror.
“If you have something to say, you can wait until we get back. Muzi has a lot to say to Young Master Ye right now; if you go over… won’t you be disturbing them?”
Han Qing coolly glanced her way and frigidly responded, “Probably not; there’s already another person in the car.”
Yan could say nothing in response. Biting her lower lip, she considered how she could persuade him to stay. He had gotten into the car just now, and things had been going perfectly fine, so why did he want to go over so suddenly? However, she couldn’t think of another reason to persuade him with.
Moreover, even if she followed him over, there wouldn’t be a place for her to sit. They could squeeze a bit, but she couldn’t possibly squeeze at the back with Muzi, could she? If she did that… Young Master Ye would probably murder her with his glare.
As she was still caught up in trying to figure things out, Han Qing had started walking forward. She was so anxious she nearly ripped the corners of her clothes. All of a sudden, the car in front sped off like an arrow. It went off at such a high speed that, in the blink of an eye, it was already out of sight. Han Qing was left speechless.
Jason eased his foot off the accelerator and took a deep breath. Sweeping a glance at Han Qing and the rest that had been left far, far behind, he smilingly said, “Luckily, I reacted quickly. I don’t want another person in this car. Putting the three of them together is so much fun.”
The corners of Han Muzi’s mouth twitched when she heard what he said from where she sat in the backseat. Jason has a pretty nasty sense of humor. However, she hadn’t expected him to be so observant. Today must have been the first time he had met Han Qing and Yan, yet he had already noticed the emotional entanglement between the three of them. The three of them are in the same car right now; nothing… would happen, right?
At that thought, she glanced behind worriedly. Ye Moxuan wrapped his arm around her and embraced her. “Don’t worry, they will come up with a solution themselves.”
Han Muzi could only nod her head. Even if she worried over them, there was nothing she could do for them. It’s not like I can force myself in the middle of something like emotions, right? Sigh, it’s up to them now. Fate has its way.
Han Qing stood there for a while, watching the car drive away, then he heard a tentative voice coming from behind him. “Erm… Muzi and the rest have left already, are you… going to continue standing here?”
His mouth moved slightly, but he said nothing. He was quite certain that the person in front had acted intentionally, otherwise why did he switch places and send Xiao Su over, then drove the car off so speedily when he prepared to go over? Heh, what an observant guy. Whatever, let’s just go with this. No matter which car he took, it didn’t make much of a difference to him. Without saying a word, he turned around and got back into the car. When he passed by Yan, he didn’t even bother to glance at her.
On the other hand, when he turned around, Yan broke out into a smile. Even so, she hadn’t expected him to get into the car without even looking in her direction. Feeling slightly hurt, she couldn’t keep the smile on her lips. However, she soon regained her composure and got into the car too.
Xiao Su sat in the driver’s seat. He kept a normal expression on his face as if nothing had happened at all. “Let’s go.”
As the car began driving, she couldn’t help sneaking glances at Han Qing, who was sitting in the backseat. In the first place, she had chosen to sit in this car in hopes of finding a chance to speak with him and grow closer to him. However, she had been too cowardly and sat in the passenger seat instead. Furthermore, since he came into the car, Han Qing had been resting with his eyes close, looking like he was exhausted.
Despite several attempts at talking to him, when she saw him resting with his eyes closed, she could only swallow the words at the tip of her tongue back into her stomach. After seeing her opening her mouth, then hesitating several times, Xiao Su couldn’t stand it anymore. His eyes darkened considerably, then he decided to speak to her. “Regarding your trip this time around, when are you planning to head back?” he asked.
The car had been blanketed in a strange silence; suddenly hearing another person speaking, she was a little stunned, then she recalled that there was another person in the car. She awkwardly touched her face as she looked at him. “Were you talking to me?”
With a cold, indifferent look, he responded, “Who else would I be talking to then?” As the words fell out his mouth, he covered up the shadow of despair in his eyes. He never expected to place so lowly in her heart. Well, ever since she had gotten into the car, her attention had solely been on Han Qing, so how could she have noticed him driving right next to her? Heh. Xiao Su, oh, Xiao Su, how ridiculous you are.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 974
Leaving aside the fact that she doesn’t like me, she doesn’t even notice me in the first place. Despite having liked her for so many years, in the end, there was no place for him in her heart. It wasn’t surprising considering he had never stood out from the crowd before, not to mention he had this hideous face now. There wouldn’t be anyone that would find him attractive. Feeling emotionally drained, Xiao Su could not find anything else to say.
On the other hand, Yan seemed to have found a way to dispel the awkwardness from before. She chatted with him, her clear voice carrying each word to his ears. “I’m not sure either. To begin with, this trip was to bring Little Bean here to visit Muzi. We were quite worried about her. Now that nothing seems to be wrong with her, maybe we’ll head back on the 15th.”
As she spoke, she thought of something, and added, “But I am looking forward to going home. The Lantern Festival back home is much more festive.”
In some places, there were a lot of cultural activities during the Lantern Festival—it would be a lot of fun to participate in them. Feeling like she had been way too depressed recently, she needed to participate in happier, more energetic activities to regain her confidence.
An idea flashed through his mind and he glanced at her. “Perhaps we can go back together.”
Go back together? She looked at Han Qing through the rear-view mirror and chewed on her lower lip. “But…”
“But what? You came here with me, so I must see you return safely. If something happens to you on the way, it’ll be hard for me to deal with it later.”
It’s about business again. She couldn’t help being amazed. “Xiao Su, you are a conscientious person.”
He said nothing. That’s right, I’m a conscientious person. It’s the first time I’ve ever taken my duties so seriously. Unexpectedly, he had been labeled as ‘a good man’. He didn’t even know whether he should laugh or cry over the fact. Moreover, it had occurred right in front of his love rival. Fortunately, he had a strong mentality, otherwise he would probably have gone mad by now. Sigh.
Han Qing, who had been resting with his eyes closed all this while, couldn’t help twitching the corners of his mouth. At first, he had intended to close his eyes in hopes of shutting out the outside world. However, when Yan started speaking, her voice forcefully made its way into his ears without any warning and overwhelmed his auditory senses. As she started chatting with Xiao Su, the corners of Han Qing’s mouth twitched when she later praised Xiao Su for being ‘a good man’. For the first time, he even pitied Xiao Su a little.
His affection for Yan was rather obvious, otherwise Jason, who they had just met for the first time, wouldn’t have been able to discover it so quickly. Moreover, Jason had even helped him create opportunities. Unfortunately, Yan was too naïve and simple-minded. Not only did she not notice his feelings, but she had also labeled him as ‘a good man’. I guess even Xiao Su would be on the verge of spitting blood by now.
Pondering over it, Han Qing suddenly came back to his senses in a shock, his brows wrinkling. What… am I thinking about right now? In the past, when he closed his eyes to rest, he often managed to shut out all the sounds from the outside. Yet, right now he wasn’t just listening to everything going on around him, he was pondering over it too. This is an unusually serious problem.
Opening his eyes, his gaze landed on the back of Yan’s head. Her hair was tied up in a small bun at the back of her head, and there was a cute pink-colored hairpin next to it. From the back, she looked mellow and adorable, and she gave off an energetic vibe. However, the black-grey male coat around her shoulders didn’t match her current appearance.
Didn’t match? His fingertips moved and he withdrew his gaze calmly. However, Yan suddenly noticed his gaze and turned back to look at him happily. “You’re awake!”
Han Qing was speechless; he had been about to close his eyes and continue pretending to be asleep. This little girl… How can she be so reactive? Don’t tell me she pays attention to me all the time? Thinking about all the times he had rejected her, he felt uncomfortable. He had depleted his entire repertoire on her, and even so, she had not given up and was still energetically fawning over him. Why is that? They had spent so little alone time together; what was it about himself that she liked so much? My appearance?
The only reason he could think of was that. The thought of her only liking him for his face made him feel even more uncomfortable than before. At this moment, he sneered in his heart as he looked at her radiant expression, then closed his eyes again.
Yan, clearly seeing that he had opened his eyes, had greeted him thinking that he would at least say a few words to her. Instead, he glanced over at her briefly before withdrawing his gaze and closing his eyes again. The smile on her lips stiffened just like that. He wasn’t willing to even spare her a second glance, nor talk to her. Am I that revolting?
All of a sudden, she became extremely upset. She could only sit with her back straight and her eyelids partly lowered. This time around, she didn’t bother to pay attention to Han Qing and looked out the window instead.
Unbeknownst to her, her current expression was reflected clearly against the window—Xiao Su only had to glance sideways to capture her expression in his eyes. Sweeping a glance at Han Qing in the backseat, the aura around him became noticeably more hostile. He sneered, “When are you planning to return to China, Mr. Han?”
When his name was singled out, Han Qing’s eyelids moved just as he was about to doze off. Opening his eyes again, he indifferently replied, “Soon. There are a lot of things to deal with at the company.”
“I see.” Xiao Su laughed. “I guess we won’t have the chance to return together then.”
Yan had originally decided not to say a word, but she couldn’t help asking now, “You’re going back so soon? When?”
Xiao Su was rendered speechless. He felt that as long as Han Qing nodded his head, she would probably rush to follow him back instantly.
Han Qing coldly pursed his lips. After a while, he answered, “Maybe in another two days.”
He’s leaving in two days? Yan blinked her eyes, suddenly feeling as if there was nothing fun to do abroad anyway, so she might as well go back together with Han Qing. If she seized her chance to board the same flight as him, maybe she could even be seated on the same row as him! By then… Hehehehe… Yan, who had been depressed earlier, immediately brightened up as the thoughts passed through her head.
Han Qing and Xiao Su both noticed it… As long as she was given a sliver of hope, she would grasp at it with both hands and hold on tight to it, even fantasizing about it.
Han Qing felt a little annoyed, but he didn’t say a word. However, everybody knew what she was thinking inside. Afterward, the inside of the car fell back into a strange silence, and they drove back just like that.
The moment the car stopped, Han Qing opened the car door and got out while Yan quickly undid her seatbelt and hesitantly followed after him. After stopping the car, Xiao Su remained seated in the driver’s seat as he gazed gloomily after the two of them leaving in the distance.
Feeling unbelievably irritable, he began searching his pockets, but could not find what he wanted to find. A knock sounded on the car window and Xiao Su saw Jason standing outside. Then, he came into the car. “Hey, why are you sitting here in a daze instead of following after them?
“Do you have a cigarette?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 975
A cigarette? When Jason heard the word, he laughed unexpectedly. “Hey, is it okay for you to be such a pushover? That woman just ran off with another man. Let me tell you; if you are a man, you should be chasing after them right now. Don’t sweat the small stuff; you have to step forward and grasp the opportunity.”
Grasp the opportunity? Hearing those words, Xiao Su was amused, but there was a bitterness in his heart. The bitterness spread across his entire chest to the point he couldn’t even force out a smile. “Do you have a cigarette?” he asked again.
Jason kept quiet. After a while, he reached his hand into the pockets of his jacket and searched around for a bit before he drew out a pack of cigarettes for Xiao Su.
Xiao Su took the pack, took out a cigarette, and put it in his mouth. However, Jason didn’t help him light it even after a long time had passed.
Xiao Su scowled at him, but he smiled innocently. “Why are you looking at me like that? When your Young Master Ye came looking for me, he was in such a rush that I forgot to bring my lighter. Can you blame me for that?”
“Why bother bringing the f*cking cigarettes if you don’t have a lighter?” Xiao Su snapped.
“D*mn, why are you using such foul language? Try speaking like this in front of that woman if you dare,” Jason said.
“F*ck off!” He threw the pack of cigarettes back at Jason. Not only was he unable to relieve his frustration, he got even more irritable instead because he couldn’t get what he wanted. On the other hand, Jason was the total opposite as he smilingly took back the cigarettes and placed them away. “It’s useless for you to get mad at me. I’m not your love rival, nor am I your enemy. I helped you out as a friend. On the other hand, not only did you not thank me, but you even blamed me.”
Xiao Su didn’t say a word, pinching his lips tightly in a line. At that moment, Jason suddenly leaned over and carefully scrutinized him. He furrowed his brows, then noticed that Jason’s gaze was fixed on the scar on his face. Then, his expression immediately changed and became unnatural.
“What?” He frigidly threw out the question. Then, he turned his face away, hiding away his horrifying scar in the shadows.
In truth, the scar wasn’t important to him. That was if… this was in the past, or if he hadn’t fallen for another person. This scar wouldn’t even have counted as a wound for him in the past. But what about now?
When he turned his head away, Jason seemed to recognize the thoughts in his heart immediately, and so he sneered, “Was I wrong before? I can’t believe you don’t even dare to let me look at your scar. I’ll say, you can’t be afraid of confessing to the girl all because of this scar, can you?”
“That’s not it. No,” Xiao Su denied it immediately.
Jason narrowed his eyes, his eyes moving back and forth quickly. After a moment, he laughed. “Don’t you know that a double negative turns into a positive?”
Xiao Su glared at him, saying nothing. He then opened the door and got out of the car, leaving the keys behind for Jason.
“What’s wrong? Are you mad because I hit the nail on the head?” Seeing Xiao Su refusing to answer, Jason reached out his hand and grabbed the hem of Xiao Su’s shirt, saying, “Hey, what’s wrong with a little bit of injury on a man’s body? It’s the peaceful era right now, but if it was in the warring era of the past, what man wouldn’t have a scar or two on his body? If every man was as fussy as you, then they wouldn’t marry a wife anymore.”
Xiao Su was silent for a moment. “Jason, you sure have a lot to say today. This matter has nothing to do with you, so stop poking your nose into it.”
“If you weren’t like a brother to me and someone who was being troubled by love, do you think I care? Alright, alright, it’s only today that I have the time to give you some advice anyway. Soon, you’ll be going back to China. By then, I wouldn’t have the chance to nag you even if I wanted to. Just think of me being a little busybody today. However, I was serious when I said all that to you. You are welcome to come to me for advice again.” Jason released his grip on Xiao Su’s clothes, then held the steering wheel with both hands. “Oh well, I’m leaving. We’ll meet again when we get the chance.”
The car quickly disappeared into the underground parking lot. Xiao Su turned his head and stared at the space where the car that just left had been parked for a while. Then, he closed his eyes tiredly. He wished he could be brave, but… Yan’s affection for Han Qing was deeply rooted. If he confessed to her right now, wouldn’t it just trouble her?
After Jason left, he silently walked in the direction of the elevator. As he passed by the trash can, he threw the unlit cigarette in his hand into it. When he returned, he had to press the doorbell since he had no keys. The person who opened the door was Yan. She seemed stunned to see him, then came back to her senses. “Xiao Su? Did you just get back? Didn’t you come up with us just now?”
Her words, said in an innocent surprise, instantly threw him directly into the deepest depths of hell. That’s it? Would I, who doesn’t have a shred of existence in her eyes whatsoever, really stand a chance with her?
His heart was hurting, and he couldn’t force a decent expression on his face at the moment anyway. So, he simply nodded his head indifferently and gave a non-committal grunt in response.
For some reason, Yan felt that his mood seemed rather low. However, she quickly noticed what she had just said to him, and explained herself in a flustered manner, “I’m so sorry! I just didn’t notice that you hadn’t returned with us; I just—”
“It’s fine.” He glanced at her as he coldly cut across her words. “All your attention was fixed on Mr. Han; not noticing me is quite normal.”
Standing there in stunned silence, she slowly digested the words Xiao Su said to her. Without waiting for her to fully comprehend what he said to her, he took off his shoes and went inside. She stood alone, mulling over it for a long while before she understood. Xiao Su… seemed angry.
‘All your attention was fixed on Mr. Han; not noticing me is quite normal.’ This sentence sounded weird—like it carried a bitterness to it. Why does it feel like he was jealous?
Jealous? Shocked, she subconsciously pulled at her hair. It was impossible for Xiao Su to feel jealous; she had questioned him about it before, but he said he had no feelings for her. His kindness toward her was simply in return for her putting in some good words for him. So, why was he so angry? Am I simply overthinking it? Scratching her head over it, she went back inside.
Han Qing was the only person on the sofa, flipping through some documents. Han Muzi and Ye Moxuan had returned to their rooms after coming back.
When Xiao Su saw Han Qing, he pursed his lips and his expression immediately became distant. He wanted to return to his room but abruptly realized that he had no room belonging to him here. Feeling exasperated, he could only choose a spot to sit down.
It was silent in the living room. When Yan came back in and saw only Han Qing and Xiao Su hanging around, she quickly slipped into her room to hide.
The awkward atmosphere lasted for a long time. Only when lunchtime had almost rolled around did Yan walk into the kitchen to prepare lunch. Xiao Su, who had been ignored to the point he seemed invisible, thought of something when he saw her walking into the kitchen. That girl just doesn’t seem to get it; she had just recovered from an illness, so why is she entering the kitchen again?
He wanted to get up and persuade her otherwise, but Han Qing, who was sitting opposite him, was acting as if nothing had happened and showed no reaction. He couldn’t help knitting his brows tightly together; he wanted to say something but realized it was not his place. In the end, he could only keep quiet.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 976
On the other side, Han Muzi had finally managed to put Ye Moxuan to sleep. It was hard to imagine that a big, strong man like him would have a day where he needed to be coaxed to sleep. Over the past few days, his sleep had been poor, most likely due to mental shock and mental abuse. He had been facing difficulties falling asleep, and when he did fall asleep, he would jerk awake with a start suddenly.
The situation was quite serious. Although there were no issues if it only lasted for a few days, if it went on for a long time, he would be experiencing mental problems. Faced with him in the situation, she felt very angry, yet her heart ached for him.
She was angry because he had done all these things on his own behind her back, while her heart ached for him because his mental health had deteriorated so badly. He had always been strong mentally, so for him to become like this indicated just how much he had been suffering recently. So, she could only continuously coax him to sleep. On the other hand, he seemed to be taking advantage of this opportunity. His hands touched and caressed her waist from time to time, then he hoarsely said, “I miss you. Only a kiss can cure me.”
Speechless, she wanted to slap his face and ask him when he became this shameless. But, when she saw his pale face and thin lips, she couldn’t bear to hurt him. So, she meekly lowered her head to kiss him.
At first, Han Muzi only intended to lightly press her lips against his to placate him. However, her lips had just touched his when Ye Moxuan immediately took over the reins. Pressing his large hands against the back of her head, he opened his mouth to kiss her.
“Mmph!” Han Muzi widened her eyes. How could this man be so shameless? She reached out her hands to push him away, but Ye Moxuan made a muffled grunt and spoke through his teeth, “I’m a patient right now. How can you bear to push me away?”
A patient? She sniggered in her heart. What kind of patient would have as much energy as he does? However, his thin lips were cold and dry, plus she had missed him greatly. In the end, she went along with his whims. Afterward, they snuggled together for quite a while. As there were people outside, and he was too tired to do what he wanted, they did not go overboard in their passion.
Before exiting the room, she went to the restroom to fix her appearance. Just as she came out of the room, she heard the door to the kitchen click shut. “Who went into the kitchen?” she asked. Then, her gaze fell onto the two people in the living room—Han Qing and Xiao Su. With that, she could guess who it was that had entered the kitchen.
Han Muzi recalled that Yan had just recovered from a severe fever, so she had not allowed Yan to cook recently; who knew she would start cooking today? Thus, she quickly headed over and pulled open the kitchen door. “Come out of there, Yan.”
Yan was dumbfounded. “What’s wrong?”
“Ye Moxuan hired a caretaker, so why are you going in there? Are you trying to snatch her job away from her?”
Yan remained silent for a while; her gaze was gloomy as she uttered, “I can’t get used to the food she makes, so I wanted to cook a meal myself.”
Han Muzi said nothing in reply.
“Anyway, it’s been a few days since I recovered from my fever. I’ve been running all over the place recently, and there’s nothing wrong with my body. Cooking a meal isn’t going to make me relapse. Why are you so worried?” Yan smiled as she walked over. “It’s fine; isn’t it, Muzi? Don’t tell me, it’s because you don’t want to eat the food I cook? If you don’t eat it now, when I go back after a few days, you won’t get to eat it anymore.”
“Go back?” At the mention of these two words, Han Muzi remembered her conversation with Ye Moxuan by the pool. He told me he would go back with me. At the thought, she smiled lightly. “Who said I won’t be able to eat it? If I can’t eat it here, can’t I eat it back in our home country?”
“Huh?” Surprised, it took Yan a while to react. “Do you mean… you’re going back to China too? What about Young Master Ye? Are you going to leave him here?”
“Idiot!” Han Muzi couldn’t help flicking Yan’s forehead with her finger. “If I go back, it’s definitely because I’m bringing him back with me!”
“Would… Old Master Yuchi agree to it?” In Yan’s eyes, Yuchi Jin wasn’t easy to get along with. Speaking about getting along, the key point was that he seemed to be displeased with Muzi. If Han Muzi brought Ye Moxuan back to China, she believed that based on Yuchi Jin’s personality, he wouldn’t agree to it, and might even resort to confining them.
At the mention of Yuchi Jin, a layer of worry crept across Han Muzi’s expression. That’s true. When Ye Moxuan agreed, she had immediately thought about this matter, feeling that he would never agree to it. However, she wasn’t the kind of person to give up simply because the other party didn’t consent to it. Be that as it may, he was Ye Moxuan’s grandfather and his savior. If he wasn’t there, then Ye Moxuan wouldn’t be here today. So… what am I worried about? She was afraid this matter would trouble the old man. After all, he was already in his later years. Right now, he probably just wanted to spend his time with his children and grandchildren. Looking at Yuchi Jin’s expression and eyes when he saw Song An, as well as Little Bean when they met at a later date, it was obvious that the old man just desired familial affection and company.
Perhaps… An idea formed in her mind and slowly took shape. After a moment, Han Muzi laughed lightly. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Those days are still far off in the future; let’s take it one day at the time for now.”
“Since when have you become so easy-going? It’s quite unsettling to see,” Yan responded.
Han Muzi walked inside. “I’ve always been this easy-going. It’s just that you didn’t know me well enough last time. Well, if you’re going to cook, then I’ll give you a hand.”
“You shouldn’t, considering you’re pregnant right now. I’m afraid if Young Master Ye knows that you’re cooking with me, he might murder me with his gaze.” Although she said that, she still moved aside to let Han Muzi squeeze in. It had been quite a while since the two of them stood side by side while cooking and chatting about silly nothings.
As they were chatting away happily, Yan suddenly brought up the matter involving Xiao Su to Han Muzi. Then, she couldn’t resist retorting, “Don’t you think that guy has a problem? On one hand, he asked me to put in a good word for his bonus pay; on the other hand, he seemed to have gotten angry. Isn’t he such a weird person? Am I still supposed to put in a good word for him?”
Han Muzi said nothing. Pausing the movements of her hands, she shot the complaining Yan a look. This girl… Is she blind? Why can’t she notice something as obvious as this? She didn’t know what to say at that moment; she just felt a sense of pity toward Xiao Su. If Xiao Su continued at this rate, she could almost guarantee that Yan would never figure out his feelings for her.
Her eyes spun in circles, hesitating over whether or not she should point out something, so that Yan, the fool that she was, would get a better understanding. As she was hesitating over it, Yan suddenly lifted her hand and loudly slammed the kitchen knife into the garlic, flattening it. “Besides, it’s weird. I feel like he’s being jealous… but I don’t have any evidence.”
Silently studying her, Han Muzi tentatively said, “Perhaps, he really is feeling jealous?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 977
Yan was still banging away. After flattening the garlic, she neatly cut it into several pieces.
Looking at the garlic, Han Muzi couldn’t resist asking, “Are you eating garlic for lunch?”
“Is there a problem?”
“No, it’s not a problem, but… you don’t mind the smell?”
Yan snapped back to her senses at those words. “That’s right, my crush is right here. How could I possibly eat garlic? What if I have an opportunity to get close to him later, and I kill him with my garlic breath when I open my mouth?” She hastily reached out to grab the cut garlic and threw them into the trash can nearby. Then, she quickly washed the knife and the cutting board. “Thank goodness you reminded me.”
Han Muzi studied Yan’s face and realized that the expression on her face indicated that she wasn’t avoiding the subject. It seemed like Yan had forgotten about what Han Muzi had just said. Is it because she didn’t care, or is she just big-hearted? Mulling over it, she asked, “Erm… did you hear what I said to you just now?”
“What was it about?” Yan asked.
“Perhaps, Xiao Su was really jealous?”
Yan denied it, “Impossible!”
“How do you know that it’s impossible? Aren’t you suspecting it yourself? It’s just that there is no evidence to ascertain it.”
“That’s true; I’m a little skeptical about it. But after thinking about it seriously, it’s impossible. Xiao Su can’t possibly have feelings for me. We’ve known each other for so long; if he liked me, he would have liked me a long time ago. How could he possibly deny it when I asked him the other day? I actually regret it a bit. Acting so impulsively and asking that question was embarrassing.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless. Forget it, I don’t know how else to tell her anymore. Let’s just not bother about it. Thus, she said nothing more and they quietly continued cooking.
When lunchtime rolled around, Ye Moxuan was still sleeping. So, she separated a portion for him and placed it aside so that he could eat it when he woke up. As soon as she had placed the food in the fridge, she heard Han Qing say, “I’m returning to China tomorrow.”
Clatter! The chopsticks in Yan’s hand fell noisily to the floor as she had loosened her grip when she heard this.
Time seemed to stand still for a moment. After a while, she awkwardly lowered her head; she was just about to pick up the chopsticks she dropped when someone else moved before she could. Bending down, Xiao Su picked up her chopsticks and placed them on the table. Then, he went to the kitchen to grab her a new pair.
Surprised, she accepted the chopsticks. “You…”
“You can’t even hold a pair of chopsticks well. You’re too dumb,” Xiao Su remarked in a low voice.
Yan immediately widened her eyes, but she didn’t start a quarrel with Xiao Su. Instead, she looked toward Han Qing and nervously asked, “Didn’t you say it’ll be in another few days when we were in the car before? Why did you change it to tomorrow? Can you get your flight tickets on such short notice?”
“Su Jiu will handle these matters.” At the mention of Su Jiu, she became silent. That’s right; so many days have passed. Su Jiu was probably preparing to go back to work. As long as she was involved, everything would be completed accordingly. Very quickly, Yan asked, “Can I go back with you? I’ll book my flight tickets right now.” With that, she did not continue eating; she put her chopsticks and bowl down, then ran into her room to retrieve her phone.
The rest of them were silent. Han Muzi sneakily snuck a glance at Xiao Su. He had on his usual expression as if there were no changes to his emotions. At first, she felt that it was strange. However, after giving it some thought, considering he was somebody who worked closely with Ye Moxuan, it didn’t seem that strange after all.
“Qing, why are you leaving in such a rush? I didn’t hear you mention before that you would leave so soon,” she asked while serving herself a bowl of soup.
Han Qing looked at his sister, and his voice became much gentler. “Something urgent came up at the company; I need to hurry back to deal with it. Originally, I intended to stay for a few more days to accompany you but it seems like that’s impossible now. You must take care of yourself well while you’re here alone. If anybody bullies you, don’t suffer on your own. I will forever be your strongest shield.” Pausing for a moment, his thin lips moved slightly as if he was thinking about something. After a moment, he slowly said, “Although the Yuchi Family is involved in a lot of businesses, the Han Family is not insignificant either. Do you understand what I mean?”
Han Muzi was stunned; she understood the meaning behind her brother’s words. He was afraid the Yuchi Family would cause trouble for her and even use the power of their family against her. Therefore, he was telling her that if she needed the backing of the Han Family, they wouldn’t back down from the fight. As long as she needed it, the Han Family would support her with everything they had.
To get an elder brother like this, she felt that she must have saved an entire galaxy in her past life. Her eyes reddened slightly. “Yes, Qing.”
“That’s enough; drink your soup.”
Lowering her head, she drank her soup. Meanwhile, Xiao Su watched quietly by the side. He didn’t expect Han Qing to be so gentle toward his sister, yet be so unemotional toward Yan. This is probably the reason why Yan was so sad and hurt, right? Unfortunately, he was an outsider—he had no right to say anything about them. After all, Han Qing had not toyed with Yan’s feelings; he had been extremely clear about his stance. If Yan continued to obsess over him, then she was just digging her own grave.
Xiao Su felt his heart ache for her. What if Yan was as stubborn as he was, and continued with her obsession forever?
“Ahh, why?! Why are there no more flight tickets for tomorrow?” As Xiao Su was contemplating it, Yan ran out of her room frantically with her phone in her hand. She ran about yelling, “Tomorrow’s flight tickets are all sold out! Are there so many people trying to go back to China? This can’t be real!” When she said all these, she came to stand next to Han Qing and looked at him pitifully. “Can’t you… stay here for a few more days before you leave? You haven’t had a proper interaction with your sister either.”
Han Qing frowned slightly. “I need to go back; something urgent came up at the company.”
Listening to the tone of his voice, Yan understood that she had no hope, and could only chew on her lower lip quietly as she walked with her head down back to her seat. Everyone could see that the energy around her body had vanished instantly. During this meal, everyone ate silently as they were deep in their thoughts. When it was over, Han Muzi quickly returned to her room.
When night came, the Yuchi Family sent Yu Bo over, out of the blue, with an invitation for them to join the Yuchi Family for dinner. Han Muzi agreed to it after some thought, considering Han Qing was about to return home tomorrow, and she also had something to discuss with Yuchi Jin. It was not a trivial matter and she had to make sure she could express it well later. Furthermore, she wondered how much Little Bean had done to increase her likeability.
As Han Qing was leaving the next day, Yan could not gather any enthusiasm for anything. Hearing the news that they were going to the Yuchi residence for a meal, she declined to go. At first, Han Qing didn’t want to go either, but thinking of his position as Muzi’s brother, he couldn’t afford to miss this meal as a member of her family. Therefore, in the end, only Xiao Su and Yan were left in the house.
Xiao Su had planned to tag along with them, but as they were leaving, Ye Moxuan gave him a meaningful look and said, “You should stay behind.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 978
Xiao Su was stunned. “Young Master Ye, did I do something wrong?”
Ye Moxuan pursed his lips and slowly responded after giving it some thought, “Have you been working for me for many years?” Even though he had lost his memory, he could tell that Xiao Su understood many of his habits and could work well with him. For example, Xiao Su was able to figure out what was on his mind by his one look or one gesture. That was why Ye Moxuan reckoned that he must have been working for him for many years.
Xiao Su nodded. “Yes, Young Master Ye.”
“Am I still a kind boss if I never did anything for you given all the years you have been with me?”
Xiao Su responded, “Uhm, Young Master Ye?”
“The opportunity is yours; if you fail to make it work, that’s on you.” After finishing his sentence, Ye Moxuan gave him a knowing look and left. He never wanted to meddle; at least not until Han Muzi worriedly told him about it when she went back to the room and had lunch with him earlier today. Ye Moxuan even told her to stay out of other’s love affairs.
Han Muzi told him that she knew that was not her business, but she still felt bad as these people were close to her. Then, Ye Moxuan was briefly made to understand the details of the matter. He was biased, as Xiao Su worked for him. So, he decided to help Xiao Su out. But he had no say as to how it would end up.
Xiao Su felt slightly bitter as he saw Ye Moxuan walk away from him. Ye Moxuan’s words agitated him; he almost responded to him saying that his situation was the same as his too—bumpy and full of obstacles. Why was he now implying that Xiao Su was useless?
After everyone left, Xiao Su sat on the couch for a while and Yan was seen opening the door. “Eh, aren’t you going out?” She was surprised to see Xiao Su. She was probably wondering why he did not leave together with Ye Moxuan. As such, she asked, “Aren’t you… going with Young Master Ye?”
Xiao Su blandly responded while looking at Yan’s eyes, “That’s a family gathering. Why should I be there?”
Yan replied, “You’re right. It’s for the same reason that I’m not going.” There must be a lot of important talks taking place during a big family gathering, so Yan felt that it would be awkward for her to be there. In the end, she decided not to turn up. Her initial plan was to grab something to eat at this point, but she did not expect to bump into Xiao Su. She was surprised as well as embarrassed because he seemed to be upset at her during lunchtime.
Xiao Su did not respond, and that made Yan feel embarrassed. She walked toward him and hesitated before saying. “About this afternoon… I didn’t mean it. Please don’t worry; I’ll speak well of you in front of the Young Lady of your house; even if I don’t, I’ll make sure she does the same for you in front of Young Master Ye.”
“Mm-hmm.” Xiao Su nodded, finally agreeing to it.
Yan continued, “Also, the jacket you lent me this morning, I’ll clean it and return it to you! Thanks so much.”
“Sure.” Xiao Su nodded. His voice was shallow and bland.
Yan felt strange because Xiao Su seemed to be particularly reticent today. “You’re not… still mad at me, are you?”
Mad? Xiao Su looked up and glanced at her. “Why would I be mad?” The irony was that he did not even have the right to be mad; he could only feel depressed on his own.
“Because… I ignored you. I didn’t mean to, but Han Qing is too important to me. So—”
“Is he that important?” Xiao Su interrupted her. “So important that you can’t live without him?”
Yan was shocked. Can I really not live without him? She had never asked herself this question, so she was taken aback when Xiao Su confronted her with this question. She liked Han Qing, and it was always one-sided. She never thought about any future with him, nor did she ever consider what the consequences might be before she decided to pursue him. Nothing was under her consideration. She did not even know whether she really could not live without him.
Shaking her head, Yan whispered, “I don’t know if I really can’t live without him, but… right now I just want to do whatever it takes to be close to him and be with him.”
These heartfelt words were supposed to be moving. But when Xiao Su heard them, they became hurtful and sarcastic. Did I stay back just to listen to this? No. Definitely not.
Right now, there was a voice within—a voice that was telling him to fight for it and fight for himself, and to win her over before that man accepted her; a voice that told him he should not give up as long as he still stood a chance. The voice within him urged him for a long time, but Xiao Su was still not taking any action. He closed his eyes, burying away all his feelings and emotions.
The room went quiet. Yan suddenly felt embarrassed, so she covered up her mouth with her hands. Did I even hear myself…She just confided in a man. Something was wrong here.
“Also, I’m heading out to grab something to eat. Do you want to come with me?”
Since Xiao Su was still mad at her, she would not be surprised if he rejected her invitation. While Yan was thinking about it, Xiao Su unexpectedly stood up. “Let’s go. What are we getting?”
“We’ll see when we’re out there.” Yan then went back to grab a jacket, and she also took a beanie and a scarf with her due to the cold—she looked like a dumpling when she came out of the room.
Even then, Xiao Su did not feel that there was anything wrong with her dressing in this way. Then, they proceeded to go outside to look around. Seeing how she was looking around, Xiao Su took out his phone and looked up what to eat. He then said, “There’s a food street nearby not too far away from us. Do you want to check it out?”
Yan’s eyes lit up as she heard that. “Food street? Sounds great. Are we walking there?”
“It takes around fifteen minutes. If you feel that’s too far—”
“Not at all. If walking for fifteen minutes gets us good food, then it’s not too far.”
Xiao Su kept quiet. This woman is such a foodie. After the two had arrived at the food street, Yan began buying all kinds of food from the stalls. Walking behind her, Xiao Su smiled as he saw how happy she was. If he could continue living this happy moment with her, it would be great. But it was a shame that the happy moments would have to end here; that smile would probably vanish after this. The thought of this saddened Xiao Su.
“Xiao Su, let’s go to that barbeque place and get some beer.”
Yan called on Xiao Su suddenly when he was deep in thought. Xiao Su then looked over and raised his eyebrows. “Beer?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 979
Drinking again? She didn’t have enough the other day, so she wants more today? Or is she having a bad day again? At this juncture, Xiao Su unconsciously threw a glance at Yan—he saw no sorrow on her face but a sweet smile; her eyes appeared to look extraordinarily watery under the bright lights on the streets.
“Just a little bit! Beer is not like other kinds of alcohol; you don’t get drunk that easily. Rest assured; I won’t trouble you today if I get drunk!”
Xiao Su pursed his lips, remaining silent. He was not afraid of trouble; he just did not want to be called another man’s name by her when she was drunk.
“Is that alright?” Yan mischievously added, seeing that he did not respond. She looked naughty but cute.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Su subtly nodded his head as he was persuaded by her cute look. He then let out a grunt of approval.
“Yay!” Seeing that he had agreed to it, Yan quickly started walking toward that direction. Xiao Su looked at her happy look and let out a smile. Was she being coy with me earlier?
Yan was here to eat. She ordered a lot of skewers and a few bottles of beer before proceeding to pour a pint for Xiao Su and herself and suggesting a toast. “Let’s make a toast!”
Xiao Su was confused.
“Even though their whole family has gone to the gathering, we are not alone. Look at us; even though we’re living abroad, we still have each other’s company to enjoy good food and beer. This is great, isn’t it?”
Xiao Su felt that she had a point, so he nodded. Yan downed the glass of beer right away. After boldly downing the pint, she proceeded to top up her and Xiao Su’s glass. “Let’s continue drinking. We shall get drunk tonight!”
“Don’t drink too much. Did you forget what you told me before we came in?”
“Ahem! I don’t remember a thing I said before. A couple of pints won’t get you drunk. Since we walked here, if you get drunk later, I’ll carry you home.”
Xiao Su was speechless. How would she be able to carry him home, since she was so skinny and petite? He grinned. “Do you think you can do that? You’d be injured if I fell on you.”
“How’s that possible?” Yan defended herself, “Don’t underestimate me. I’m strong. I’d still be able to take you home even if you were completely wasted! Even if you fell, you wouldn’t injure me by pressing onto me.”
Pressing onto me… This phrase quickly called to Xiao Su’s mind a certain form of exercise, which he quickly ignored, though his ears quickly turned red.
“Eh? You haven’t even started drinking. Why is your face so red?” Yan did not know what was going through his mind and thought that it was caused by alcohol. She made fun of him. “You’re a lightweight, aren’t you?”
Xiao Su looked at her with indifference. “You have no idea.”
Yan earnestly nodded. “No, I do! But don’t worry, I won’t tell a person how bad a drinker you are. I know you don’t want to lose face, like what happened this afternoon when I accidentally forgot about you and misspoke one word. Here you are, still holding a grudge against me about it.”
As she finished, she began pouring more beer for herself—no longer toasting with Xiao Su or drinking with him. Whenever she poured more beer for herself, Xiao Su would tell her to stop. In the end, Yan decided to ignore him and drink as much as she liked.
Before Yan knew it, she felt that her cheeks started to burn and her head started to spin. She stared at Xiao Su mysteriously with her hands supporting her chin. “Huh? Your face… seems to be getting redder.”
Even though Xiao Su’s face was red, he was still able to sit there calmly and slowly eat the food with his chopsticks. Needless to say, Yan’s eyes being all over him caused his face to feel even warmer.
A few moments later, Xiao Su lifted his head and both of their eyes locked. “Why are you looking at me? Are you done eating?”
Yan shook her head hard while looking at Xiao Su. All of a sudden, she started to have double-vision while looking at Xiao Su. “Eh, two Xiao Su’s?” Yan then let out a silly laugh.
Seeing her behave in such a way, Xiao Su put down his chopsticks and thought to himself, I can’t believe she still dares to say that she’s a good drinker and won’t get drunk. Look at her right now; she’s only drunk a little bit.
“I think we’re good to go.” As Xiao Su finished his sentence, he went to pay the cheque right away so that he could get ready to send Yan home. However, when he came back from paying the cheque, Yan was seen walking unsteadily toward the exit. Xiao Su was frightened and quickly went up to her.
At this point, Yan lost her grip and almost fell down. Fortunately, Xiao Su was able to catch her in his arms.
Thud! Her soft cheek fell on Xiao Su’s chest. Xiao Su looked down at Yan’s almost unconscious face and helplessly said, “Didn’t I ask you to wait for me at the table? Do you think you can walk back when you’re so drunk? Stand still.”
Yan mumbled and he was unsure if she heard what he said. She then pushed Xiao Su away and started walking by herself while saying, “D-Don’t follow me. I-I can still drink! Let’s drink more!”
Xiao Su went up to her and grabbed her by her fair wrist. He yelled, “Cut it out! Let’s go back now.”
“I’m not going back. Sob. The house is empty and cold—I don’t want to go back.” Yan then looked at Xiao Su with her teary eyes. Her beautiful eyes were filled with tears and she looked extremely pitiful. “I want to get some fresh air outside; is that okay?”
Xiao Su did not respond. Fresh air? In this extremely cold weather, did she just tell him that she wanted to get some fresh air outside? Is she joking?
However, Xiao Su could not bear saying no to her. He held her by her arms. “That’s fine, but not now. It’s getting late, and we have to go home.”
Yan finally gave in after insisting on it for a while. Since she was drunk, she was quickly taken home by Xiao Su. When they were back home, Xiao Su tried to settle her down. This time around, Yan did not make a mess like she did last time. Last time, she was drunk and could not stop crying and yelling; today, apart from shouting a few times on the street, she had been quiet after they arrived home.
When Xiao Su took her into her room, Yan immediately took off her jacket and walked toward her bed. She then lay on the bed with a blanket covering her mouth. Xiao Su proceeded to adjust the temperature of the heater and properly tucked her into bed. After noticing for a while that she had been quiet, he left the room.
Xiao Su then went to freshen up in the bathroom. When he came out, Ye Moxuan, Han Muzi, and the others were not back yet. He went up to Yan’s room door and stood there for a while to make sure that it was quiet inside before heading to the balcony to clear his mind.
On the other side, the maids in the Yuchi residence had just served all the dishes. As Yu Bo stood next to them and witnessed the table full of people, he let out a sigh. The Yuchi residence had never been so full of life before.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 980
All these years, Yuchi Jin had been eating alone. Even though he had Yu Bo’s company, at the end of the day, they were still just two old men. It was a pitiful sight when it was just the two of them accompanying each other. Yuchi Jin was not always alone; he previously enjoyed the company of his wife and children.
If he was not strong, he would not have made it after all these years of being alone. But now, even his youngest daughter was back. Even though his eldest daughter was no longer around, her child was here, together with their entire family of four. Furthermore, Han Muzi brought Han Qing. Including him and Yu Bo, they had a total of eight people. It was full of life.
Yuchi Jin was all smiles, and the fact that Little Bean was sitting next to him made him even happier. All this while, Little Bean had been saying a lot of good things about Han Muzi in front of Yuchi Jin. Yuchi Jin did not like Han Muzi before, and his pride had made it worse.
But after Little Bean’s brainwashing throughout these days, Yuchi Jin’s appreciation of his granddaughter-in-law had greatly increased. Even so, he was proud and still could not simply let go of his ego and express his appreciation toward her.
Though, he did greet Han Qing and chat with him. After all, they were both chairmen of a corporation, so they had things in common to talk about. Very quickly, Yuchi Jin’s appreciation of Han Qing had increased. He felt that he was a trustworthy person. Throughout this meal, Little Bean had spoken well of Han Muzi to a great extent.
However, Song An was absentminded when eating at the table. Her mind took a trip down memory lane as she saw everyone at the table. At the time, she was still little, and her elder sister would take care of her the most. Their mother’s health went downhill after she gave birth to Song An and was bed-ridden for many years. Even the most expensive medication could not succeed in keeping her alive. After she passed, Song Xin was the person who took care of Song An.
Her elder sister took care of her like she was her own daughter because Yuchi Jin was devastated by the loss of their mother. Due to his unstable mental condition and exhaustion caused by the loss, he had put aside a lot of the matters in the company. Since Yuchi Jin had to take care of many matters in the company after his wife’s funeral, he naturally neglected his two daughters.
Even though initially the two sisters could understand what their father was going through, gradually, their relationship with him became estranged. After all, to children, their parent’s affection was the most important thing. This was contrary to always hearing that their father had a work client to attend to that night and that they did not have to stay up late to wait for him. In the beginning, they would not see each other a lot, but after a while, they never saw each other anymore. Yuchi Jin’s work became busier and busier, so much so that he had no time to accompany his daughters and never got to remarry.
Song An let out a smile silently as she thought about this. The only good only thing about her old father was his loyalty: her mother passed when she was young and at that time, he was already extremely well-off. Yet, no matter how many women came up to him at that time, he would not even bother giving them a look. He became a widower for his whole life. He never remarried, and never flirted with any other woman. But, it was a shame that he was too egoistic and forceful. Back in the days, he forced her elder sister to get engaged to the son of his business partner. This eventually led to her and her elder sister running away from their home. Song An thought that if he hadn’t put pressure on her and her elder sister back then, her elder sister might still be alive now…
“Grandaunt Song!” A childish voice brought her back from her wandering thoughts. Song An lifted her eyes and saw a pair of innocent yet curious eyes looking at her. “Grandaunt Song, why are you crying?”
Crying? Everyone else could not help but turn around and look in Song An’s direction.
Song An was stunned. She subconsciously felt her cheeks with her hands and found that they had become wet. Did she… shed tears unknowingly?
This was something unexpected for Song An. She was merely carried away by her thoughts and did not foresee herself becoming fully immersed in those memories that were incessantly flooding back, such that she ended up… in tears. It was embarrassing since so many people were here at the table, and most of them were younger than her.
At this juncture, Song An immediately stood up and forced a smile on her face. “The food might be a little too spicy. Please excuse me.” She then turned around and walked toward the bathroom.
This little interlude made the entire atmosphere at the table feel slightly awkward. Even though Song An still had a smile on her face, after she left, everyone else seemed to be less in the mood to enjoy the meal. Han Muzi was worried about her. She contemplated before putting down her chopsticks and standing up. “Let me go and check on her.”
Nobody stopped her apart from Ye Moxuan, who said in his deep voice, “Call me if you need anything.”
“Sure.” Han Muzi then stood up and walked toward the direction that Song An headed. Since the Yuchi residence was huge, Han Muzi finally found the bathroom with the help of a maid. What she did not know was that after she left the table, Ye Moxuan started talking to Yuchi Jin, who sat across the table from him. “Grandfather, I have something to tell you.”
After Han Muzi had found the bathroom, she thanked the maid, who respectfully responded to her and left.
Han Muzi thought that she would have to put in some effort to search for Song An after entering the bathroom, but Song An was just standing right there in front of her, leaning on the sink. Traces of tears were still found on her face, unwiped; it seemed like she was not in a rush to go back out there.
Song An heard footsteps coming toward her so she turned over to look in that direction. She saw Han Muzi and let out a smile. “Oh, it’s you.”
Han Muzi stopped walking and looked at Song An in slight surprise. After all, Song An was her aunt whom she was not particularly close to. Seeing Song An cry while trying to put on a smile made her feel bad.
“You don’t have to come here. I can calm myself down,” Song An commented just as Han Muzi was feeling helpless about the situation.
Han Muzi moved her lips before she began walking toward her to pass her a box of tissues. “Here you go.”
Song An stared at the box of tissues for a while before she decided to take it from her. She took out a piece to wipe off the tears and clear her nose. “I was just thinking about some things that happened in the past and felt nostalgic; I’m not sad.”
If it were not for Little Bean, she would not have known that she was in tears.
“Things that happened in the past…”
“Yeah. That grumpy old man… It’s all his fault. If he hadn’t put pressure on my sister and me at that time, we would not have left home; if we hadn’t left home, maybe… my sister would still be alive today, and she’d be… your mother-in-law.”
