Chapter 151: Tell Me Everything

"Grandpa..."

Arthur ignored his grandson as he looked away out the window.

"Fine... Fine... Now, tell me, what’s on your mind?" Evan closed his laptop. He couldn’t continue his work if his grandfather were sulking like this.

"Tsk! I won’t tell you!" Arthur said, still annoyed with his grandson’s behavior. At first, he wanted to tell him everything he heard from Rose. But he got annoyed with it, so he would just keep quiet.

"My good grace Grandpa!" Evan was dumbfounded, looking at his grandpa. How could this old man still act like a child!

Evan waits for his grandfather’s mood to change because he seems furious this time. His mood was still the same after a few minutes. Now, Evan had no other choice but to coax him.

"Grandpa, I’ve told you earlier you don’t need to test my fiance. Because I know you’ll definitely like her the first time you see her. Still... you do not believe me. Now, tell me, is what I said true? You fell for her charm the moment you saw her? Right!?"

Arthur could only praise his domineering grandson in his heart. His grandson’s confidence is terrific. What his grandson said is always true. Earlier, when he met Rose in the park, he immediately fell for her charm. Now he believes that anyone who meets her will like her right away, including him.

At first, the idea to test his future granddaughter-in-law occurred when he was chatting with his best friend in the capital. Without thinking, he flew straight to this city early this morning and made plans to meet Rose.

He thought Rose was the type of woman who liked his grandson only for his money and status. Apparently not. The moment he saw her eyes, he immediately felt for her. Rose is so humble and kind. That little girl didn’t even think about helping an old man like him.

"Do you want to know what she said about your father?" Arthur asks.

"What is it!?" Evan is tempted to know when he hears his grandpa’s words.

"I won’t tell you...." Arthur turned his gaze to the driver in the front seat. "Go to Hotel Collins!"

"Fine! I will not ask you again. I will just call my fiance to ask her...." Evan could only laugh, looking at his childish-looking grandpa.

He took his cell phone and wanted to call his pretty fiance. Instantly he misses him and wants to be with her. Still, unfortunately, now he has to entertain his grandpa before this old man returns to the capital.

"No, stop! Don’t call her... she may know my identity. Let’s stick to our plan. Let’s surprise her when you two come back to the capital." Arthur was worried Rose would be angry if she knew he was testing her.

"Fine, I will not call her. But, you must tell me everything." Evan almost burst into laughter when he saw his grandpa panic.

****

Two days had passed since they submitted the documents to the city hall. And today was the day Rose had been waiting for.

Since morning, Rose has been in the Wilson Group Vale city branch’s meeting room in the Starlight Investment building. Rose deliberately invites Sam and Oliver to gather to see the auction announcement through a particular web page at 11 AM.

Rose couldn’t hide her worry. She had been pacing around the room for several minutes, occasionally glancing at her watch to check the current time. It feels like the needle is running slow.

"Is my watch broken?" Rose murmurs, then she looks at Oliver, who is now busy behind his laptop, just wanting to confirm the time. "Oliv, what time now?"

His answer is the same. It’s still 10 AM. There is still an hour until the announcement will appear on the committee’s official website.

Rose was so nervous about the result. She wanted her company to win the auction. Because only by obtaining Rapid Realty Rose could make the Wilson Group grow faster. The sooner her company grew, the more confident she was standing alongside Evan.

At first, she wanted to take it slowly to build a strong foundation for Wilson Group before telling the world that Wilson Group is her company. However, discovering that Evan’s father disagrees with their relationship makes her want to pursue her success more quickly. She wanted to prove to Evan’s father that she was the right person for his son.

Rose stopped pacing. She stood at the corner while looking at the clear sky as she tried to clear her mind from her worry. She prays in her heart that the auction results will be as bright as the sky above, which looks blue with some white clouds forming a pattern that looks strange but beautiful.

After some time, mesmerized by the beautiful sky, Rose started moving again. Her mind was beginning to think of the bidding result again. She couldn’t contain her nervousness at all.

"Oh my gosh! Why does eleven o’clock feel like an eternity?" Time is drawing near eleven, but it feels so long. For the second time after her rebirth, she felt this way. First, while waiting for her mother to finish her surgery. And now!

When Rose makes a turn, suddenly, her head bumps into someone. She was shocked.

"What the hell...." She lifted her head, only looking at Oliver’s tall body standing before her eyes. She took a step back to make a distance from him before she scolded him.

"What are you doing, Oliv!?"

"You make me dizzy. Can you stop?" Oliver pulled Rose to follow him to his seat. Rose had no choice but to follow Oliver and sit beside him.

"See for yourself!" Oliver pushed his laptop towards Rose.

Rose accepted Oliver’s laptop even though she was still upset because Oliver made her forehead feel slightly hurt. She looked at the computer screen but didn’t know what it was. There are only PDF files with small fonts. At this moment, she wasn’t ready to read the file. She just needs to know the result.

"What is it? Why on earth would you ask me to read a document?"

Chapter 152: False Information

"Can you read by yourself?" Oliver rolls his eyes. Sometimes he feels helpless to this girl when she’s nervous like now. She couldn’t use her brain rationally.

After a few seconds of looking at the PDF file, Rose’s eyes widened in shock.

"What the fuck, Oliver? Why did you not tell me earlier that you hacked their server!? Gee!! I can’t believe you torture me with my anxiety!"

Rose cursed in annoyance at Oliver. Her eyes remained on the file she was reading as if she wanted to ensure the information she read was correct.

But after a few seconds, she cursed him, and Oliver didn’t say anything. She found it odd because as usual, this man would reply to her ramblings.

Feeling strange, Rose immediately looked at him. She was stunned. She saw Oliver’s face pale with his head looking in the door direction like he was seeing someone he feared off.

In a hurry, Rose also looked at the door. She jumped from her seat.

"Evan!"

No wonder Oliver’s face was so pale. Evan was standing at the door. Rose was in trouble if Evan heard what she said earlier; She cursed herself. She had never done this before in front of Evan, as she remembered and shouted about Oliver’s secret as a hacker.

Did Evan hear all that?

Didn’t know what to say. Rose could only approach him.

Evan was surprised to see the young man beside Rose. Is this man Oliver?

This was the first time Evan had seen Oliver in person. Before, he had only seen him from the picture Sam had sent him. And in that photo, the man named Oliver is different from this man.

Does Rose have 2 friends named Oliver? This one is the fine one, and the other, the CEO of Wilson Group, is ugly? But, who is this guy? A Hacker?

Evan was confused, but he couldn’t ask Rose about this.

"Wife, are you done?" Evan walked inside, and he pulled her into his embrace. He needs to make this man aware that Rose is his wife, so this man doesn’t have a chance to flirt with her.

"Not yet. But I already know the result, so I don’t have to wait anymore." Rose smiled as she wrapped her arms around Evan’s waist. She misses him. This morning she was rushing to the office, so she couldn’t spend her mornings with him.

"Shall we go now? We have to go to East City. But first, I want to take you for a great lunch ...."

"Can we bring the other lunch with us?"

"Uhm...No!"

"Alright." Rose immediately took her bag. And said goodbye to Oliver.

Oliver could only nod at Rose. He was still surprised to see Evan in person. That man really intimidated him.

"Oliver, see you in the capital. Sorry, I can’t stay here for long. Oliv, do you want me to bring you anything from East city?"

"No. No need. Bye!" Oliver can’t let this girl stay, or her man will swallow him alive.

"Why do you look so sick, Oliv? Are you alright?"

"This is because of the man behind you!! Damn it, Rose! Can you just leave me alone?" Oliver wanted to say this, but his words stopped at the tip of his tongue as he looked at Evan’s deathly glare.

"I’m fine!" He said as he looked at his laptop screen again. Didn’t want to talk to Rose anymore. After Oliver heard the meeting room door closed, he finally felt better. He looked in the door direction to make sure they both left.

"Waaah! I can’t believe Rose can handle Evan. That man’s aura is no joke. He could kill someone with just his glare...." Oliver talked alone as he stood from his seat and walked to the glass wall looking at the stress below to calm his mind and heart.

"Evan! Why don’t you ask me about the auction results?" Rose felt weird looking at Evan, who seemed not interested.

Evan smiles as he glances at his girl, "I already know your company will win the auction, Rose."

"Y-You know?" Rose looked at the man who held her hand. She felt confused. How could he know?

"Hmm... My feelings tell me that your company is the winner!" Rose could only roll her eyes. She had just thought that Evan also hacked committee computers like Oliver.

When they reached the lobby, a black Maybach was waiting at the entrance door. Rose could see Sam standing near the car, chatting with Gavin. Her mind suddenly felt familiar with the luxurious vehicle. Rose believed she had seen it before...

After she greeted Sam and Gavin, she immediately entered the car while Evan was still talking with Sam outside. She didn’t know what they talked about, but she felt strange looking at Sam’s face turn pale.

"Did Evan scold Sam again?" Rose talks to herself, but Gavin, who sits in the driver’s seat, answers.

"Don’t mind them, Lady Boss. Big Boss just casually talked about work with him."

Rose looked at Gavin as she nodded. She took her phone to chat with Oliver.

While outside the car.

Evan still can’t believe the CEO of Wilson Group is a handsome man. Even though he has better looks far above Oliver’s, still... Knowing the man has a good-looking appearance makes him a little uneasy.

"Sam! Why is the man named Oliver upstairs different from the photo you sent me?"

Instantly Sam’s body froze when he heard Evan’s question. He had predicted his boss’ question in advance.

"Boss... I was also shocked when I looked at him after he cut his hair and cleaned his face..." Sam was speechless with his big boss’ jealousy. How could he make Oliver’s face return to ugly again? It’s impossible, right?

"Next time, do your job properly. Don’t give false information! Now, go back to the capital and train with unit one!"

"Training with unit one? Boss, are you kidding, right?" Sam panicked, looking at his boss. "B-Boss, give me your mercy, boss. How about the lady boss? Who will take care of her?"

"You don’t have to worry about that!"

Sam’s heart sank. He never imagined Boss Evan would send him to unit one. He prefers another punishment that goes back to that place. But he can’t say anything.

"Damn it, Oliver!" Sam’s sharp eyes stared at the black car getting further away as he sighed deeply. He could only curse Oliver for cutting his hair and shaving his goat beard. If Oliver hadn’t had that makeover, he wouldn’t be in trouble like now.

Chapter 153: Father

Rose felt a sudden thrill welling up in her heart. A glimmer of hope that will change her life forever began to start. The question that had always bothered her since she was a child. Something that was not solved until the last breath in her previous life. Now, it will unfold before her eyes. Her father’s identity.

She saw her mother walking around the bedroom. Somehow she felt like deja vu when she saw her mother pacing like someone she really knew, herself. Rose bitterly smiled when she remembered this is what she usually did if there was something to worry about, walking back and forth like her feet can’t stop moving.

"Mom! I beg you to stop doing that? Sit down and talk to me, okay!? Why are you suddenly asking me to come home? And why do you seem so scared to talk to me?"

Rose felt helpless against her mother. It’s been thirty minutes since they’ve been in this room but she hasn’t said a single word. Since then her mother was just walking back and forth in the room while talking to herself and she did not understand at all what her mother said.

Several guesses came to Rose’s mind. Trying to make her mother speak, she just said what was on her mind. Perhaps her mother would start to speak to her,

"Mom, do you have a problem? I mean... you’re in debt that you can’t afford to pay back?"

"Did something happen to your health?" Rose felt terrible just imagining this one. She was so worried that her mother’s illness would relapse.

But after trying to guess, her mother didn’t respond with what she had just said. Her mother still kept walking nonstop and ignored her. Rose could only take a deep breath, it felt like her mind was getting tired of thinking about what was really bothering her mother right now.

Rose leaned against the back of the sofa and tried to close her eyes. Seeing her mother pacing could make her eyes drowsy. She slowly closed her eyes while still trying to guess about the problems her mother was facing.

After a while, Rose sat up straight with her eyes wide open. She narrows her eyes looking at her mother in silence. Rose was tense, with her current thoughts.

Gosh! If what she thought was true. So this is really insane.

"Mom!" Molly stopped her step and looked at her daughter to continue her words, "Don’t tell me you finally accepted Uncle Jamie love?" Rose stood up from her seat and walked to her mother in the corner.

Their eyes met for a moment. After some time, she felt defeated again because her mother’s eyes looked dull. Like everything, she said earlier her mother didn’t hear.

"Mother!" Rose started to worry about her condition. She saw her mother’s face looking pale, her lips were so dry and her hair, which used to look soft and neat now, looks messy. She barely recognizes her mother now, because, in her eyes, her mother always looks beautiful and fresh, now she looks dull and old. She seemed not to take care of herself the last few days.

Rose took her hand and led her to the sofa. "Please sit here mom. Talk to me, stop worrying so much. And don’t be afraid, whatever you are going to say won’t make me angry. I promise you!" Rose looked her mother in the eyes.

Seeing her mother’s eyes flash sad emotions makes Rose’s heart slightly worry. She was afraid of the news her mother wanted to say, something that would hurt her heart. But, she reminds calm. She sat opposite her mother.

Rose saw her mother just looking at her hands she was clenching on her thighs. Rose knew that her mother’s mind and heart were agitated. For some reason, she began to feel her heart ache just looking at her mother’s condition.

She didn’t know what to do because this was the first time Rose saw her mother like this. Her mother is a strong woman who has always been a role model in her eyes. She took a double role to raise her. Not only acts as her mother but sometimes she becomes a father figure as well as a friend.

"D-Daughter..." Finally Rose could hear her mother’s voice, but this time her voice, which usually sounds charming and gentle, sounded hoarse and low. "I finally remembered your father."

Rose was confused hearing her mother’s words. Why did she suddenly say that? Had she forgotten her father all this time?

"Mom, you mean all this time you forgot my father?"

"Yes!"

"What do you mean? Wasn’t my father dead? What memories do you forget about him?" Rose was getting confused.

Has her mother forgotten her father’s name? That’s why all this time she’s never told her. Her mother also never brought her to her father’s grave. When she was a child, her mother said that her father’s grave was far away, on a remote island. And as a child, she believed what her mother said to her.

"What I mean is, all this time I lied to you." Molly’s voice started to tremble. "Your father is not dead, as I told you..." She continues to tell her daughter everything she remembers.

Rose was shocked to hear her mother’s words. Her father is still alive? What the hell is happening here?

"M-Mom... So you said my father is still alive?"

Her eyes glazed over at her mother who now looked calm. But Rose could tell right now her mother’s heart was in a mess like what she felt now. It was as if her heart was now like a calm lake suddenly surging when someone threw a stone into the middle of the lake.

Rose couldn’t describe her feelings in words. Knowing her father was still alive was enough to make her mind stop working as if someone had just pressed the reset button in her brain.

This is for real? Or was her mother trying to humor her?

Chapter 154: Forget

Rose was utterly speechless to hear all about it. Her mother had just told her that she had been lying to her all along. The lie was about her father, who died when she was still in the womb. And all the photos of her father were burned.

However, what her mother said after that made Rose even more confused,

"All this time, I didn’t say anything about your father. That’s because I lost some of my memories of the past... I don’t remember anything about him."

Molly’s words are like thunder in Rose’s ear. How could her mother lose her memories of her past life with her father? It doesn’t make sense at all. In fact, Rose thought her mother was discussing the plot of the short story she was going to write.

Right now, Rose has completely lost her ability to string words. She could only silently listen to her mother like she was listening to an audiobook.

"When I just graduated from college, I went on vacation with my college friends. During that vacation, I met a man. This man is handsome and kind. I immediately liked him the first time I saw him, and so did he. We are attracted to each other. We had only known each other briefly, but it felt like we had known each other for many years. Something between us made us end up spending our day together...mmm... I mean our night together." Molly could not continue her words, too shy to tell her daughter what happened that night.

Rose can’t believe what she hears right now. She can feel her cheek turn warm hearing how her parents got her, gosh!

"M-Mom, so... you said you had a one-night stand with that man?"

Molly nodes quickly. "That night was the best night for me, Rose. To tell you the truth, he is the only man I spend a night with for my entire life...."

Molly buried her blushing face with her two hands, too embarrassed to tell this story to her only daughter. But she must let her know. Molly really worries that these memories will disappear again. What’s more, she couldn’t tell this story to anyone else. Her daughter was the only person she could share with, even though she was so embarrassed.

Rose listens in silence, feeling weird hearing her mother’s romance story.

"Because there is a spark between the two of us. After that wild night, we arranged to meet the next day. However, while I was heading to our meeting place, I had an accident... and never got to see the man again."

Molly’s tears began to flow as she felt so mad at God. How could God play with her life so cruel like that? When she wanted to meet a man who could shake her heart, God made them separate.

"Fortunately, that time, I didn’t hurt badly. It’s just a head bump and a few minor injuries all over my body. I was brought back to East city by my friends. Arriving in East City, I did a series of tests. The doctor said I lost short memories a few days before the accident happened. Including my memory of that man, your father."

Molly’s cries grew louder. "And after a few months, I realized that at that time, I was pregnant."

This is the cruel punishment God ever gave her in this life. She was pregnant without knowing who the man who impregnated her was. She had to bear the shame of being pregnant out of wedlock. Also had to lie to her daughter all this time. She created an imaginary husband to make her daughter believe that her father died long ago. Because she didn’t have those memories of the man she spent a night with.

Rose was utterly shocked to hear her mother’s story. She was unfortunate, but her tears couldn’t come out for some reason. Her heart hurt too much to see her mother sobbing. She wanted to hug her, but she felt her limb numb. She can’t move. She just sat on her seat like a sculpture, lifeless.

Her mind is thinking hard, trying to understand the storyline that her mother just said. She wanted to find something that might be used to find out who the man was. Her father probably never knew he had a daughter from his one-night stand with her innocent mother.

After a long silence hearing her mother sobbing, which seemed to worsen, Rose finally asked her.

"Mom, why do you suddenly remember those lost memories?" Rose, confused. After so many years, why only now? Why not a long time ago? Maybe they could still find traces of her father.

Molly thought for a moment before she said,

"A few days ago, my head hit the cupboard while cleaning up the room. I fainted then, and when I woke up, I realized I remembered something from the past...."

"Mom, did you remember the man’s name?"

If her mother remembers, Rose will ask Oliver to find that man. They would be able to see him as long as he was an Astington citizen. Indeed his name will be recorded in the national identity data center, right?

Molly nods, "I remember, his name is Nick, but I didn’t know his last name. And so did he. He didn’t know my last name. That night we just said our first name..." Molly regretted not telling the man her full name. If only she had said her full name, she was so sure Nick would be looking after her. Because Nick knows she’s from East Town.

Instantly Rose’s shoulders dropped when she heard her mother’s words. Millions of people in this country use the name, Nick. How could she find him now?

Rose could only be silent to see her mother, who continued crying. Now her mother’s eyes look so red, and her clothes are wet with her tears that didn’t stop flowing. It was as if the tears she had been holding back for 23 years had all come out without her knowing nor being able to hold them any longer.

Chapter 155: There’s No Love

Seeing her mother cry like this made Rose’s heartache. Unknowingly, she stood from her seat and hugged her mother. For a while, she let her mother cry in her arms.

"Mom, it’s okay. At least now, we know my father’s name is Nick. Consider it a blessing if God allows us to meet him one day."

Rose didn’t know why she didn’t feel anything right now after hearing that her father was still alive. Like there was something wrong with her heart. It was as if her heart had gone numb. Was it because it had been so long that she had forgotten that she was supposed to have a father? Just thinking about it could only make her smile bitterly. Apparently, her effort to comfort her mother only made her mother cry even more.

"Mom, when I was little, I used to pray that my father would come back to life and be with us. But that was then..." She couldn’t stop trying to make her mother feel less sad. Rose poured out what was in her heart.

"But now? I don’t need a father figure anymore. For me, I only need you. You are more than enough for me. I will never ask God to send a father figure again. I don’t need a father. And so far, we’re fine without him. Our family has thrived even without a father figure, and that is because of you, mom. So please, mom... stop crying. Stop crying over a man who doesn’t necessarily remember you." Rose’s heart ached when she said this. She knew her words would surely break her mother’s heart.

"I know, but..." Molly’s voice trembles sadly with her daughter’s sharp words.

"NO, BUT! Please, mother, just move on." Rose pulled her body away from her mother while holding her shoulders, looking her straight in the eyes. "I beg you to stop crying to someone who has already forgotten about you... My father, I mean, that man Nick, he probably already has a family! And if we forced him to acknowledge us as his family might destroy his family."

Rose couldn’t stand to say this to her mother, who had just remembered her past. But she had no other choice. She had to make her mother realize that her memory was overlong. More than twenty years have passed. There was no way Nick would remember her mother. Their encounter is just like a wind in his memories. He must have moved on when he found out that her mother didn’t show up.

Molly could understand what Rose was saying. She realized her relationship with Nick was only a tiny spark between them. At that time, Molly had not felt love for Nick. She was sure Nick, the same as her too, hadn’t felt love yet. However, what makes her chest feel tight until now is that she is pregnant with Nick’s daughter. That man gives her a beautiful and intelligent daughter. What else can she see Nick’s eyes on her daughter? How could she forget him?

She was grateful to have Rose but felt sorry for her daughter growing up without a father. What will happen if Evan’s family makes a fuss over this? Will her daughter be well received by her in-laws?

After regaining her memory these past few days, this matter was troubling Molly’s mind a lot. Because of her past mistakes, she didn’t want to bring trouble to her daughter now. If that happened, she would never forgive herself.

Now Moly still couldn’t stop crying. Her voice suddenly disappeared as her throat felt sore. She couldn’t even breathe through her nose anymore. She slowly closed her eyes, trying to calm her chaotic mind and heart.

Rose could only accompany her mother, who was still crying silently in her arms. Trying to distract her mind by imagining her father’s appearance. She had no idea what her father looked like. Her mother only told her that her father was tall and handsome. But Rose could guess the color of her father’s eyes and hair must be the same as hers. Because her mother’s eyes and hair color are different from hers.

How can she find Nick, who has the same eye color as her? Among the millions of people with that name in this country?

If only there was CCTV in that city, she seems to want to ask Oliver to trace her mother’s footsteps at that time. Or, if her mother had a photo of Nick, she’d like to ask Oliver to create a unique face tracking app. But unfortunately, her mother said they used Nick’s analog camera when they took pictures. And again, at that time, technology was not as sophisticated as it is now. It’s difficult to trace people.

Rose could understand that if Nick tried to find her mother, it would be difficult for him too. Moreover, East city was still underdeveloped at that time compared to the Capital and other cities. This city has only developed in the last 20 years.

Which bothered Rose a bit at the moment; Does Nick already have a family?

He must have, right? There’s no way someone as handsome as Nick would be single until now. Because that man doesn’t have the burden like her mother, who is pregnant and had to spend her youth raising her child alone.

From what Rose had heard from her mother earlier, her mother and Nick had only met once. She is sure they must not have grown feelings of love, right?

Rose took a deep sigh feeling helpless with this situation.

Thinking about the man who could possibly be her father tired her so much. Her eyes became heavy, and she could feel her shoulder numb.

After Rose realized her mother was no longer crying, she released her hug. She was surprised when she saw her mother sleep soundly in her embrace.

"Mom, how can you still look pretty when you’ve just been crying for hours?" Rose looked at her mother’s pale face. She looked like a goddess in her sleep.

Rose kissed her mother’s forehead gently before she sent a text to Evan to help her to move her mother.
