Chapter 211: Evan Was Shocked

After a short greeting with the Stone family, Evan brings Rose to the VVIP wardroom on the same floor as the surgery room. For this particular case, Evan asks her mother, the owner of this hospital, to close this entire floor only for them. He didn’t want any other people to enter this floor. Especially with Molly had experienced an attempted murder. He wants to make sure everything is safe in this place.

"Wife, you rest in this room. My mother will be here soon to accompany you." Evan let Rose sleep on the bed and covered her with the blanket.

"You need to sleep too, Evan. I know you haven’t slept since we left Tuscany..." Rose was worried to see her husband’s tired face. She clearly see, that his eyes weren’t as bright as usual.

"Of course, I will." He said as he sat on the side of the bed and smoothed the hair on her forehead. "But first, I have to see a doctor and ask in more detail about your mother’s surgery...." Evan lied. Actually, the moment he met his father, that old man asked him to go to the top floor of Uncle Marcel’s office.

At first, he was reluctant to leave his wife, but after his father told him it was about Molly’s past, he had no reason to refuse.

In no time, Evan reached the top floor. He headed straight for the Hospital Director, Marcel Quinn’s office.

Along the way, his mind didn’t stop thinking about why his father asked him to talk at his third uncle’s office. Why don’t they just chat in an empty meeting room? Or corridor? Countless questions pop up in his mind. Until this last question could make Evan stop his step right before the door; Does his Father and uncle Marcel know about his mother-in-law’s past? This question is like thunder in his head.

After a few minutes of standing there without moving, he opened the door after getting permission to enter.

"Son, come in, sit here..."

Evan saw his Father and Marcel Quinn sitting on the sofa facing each other. He immediately joined them. He settled next to his father as he looked sharply at Marcel Quinn. Trying to see if this old man’s face is similar to his wife’s. But after a short glance, he found nothing. There is no resemblance between them.

He quietly took a deep sigh. For some reason, he felt disappointed. Marcel Quinn is definitely not Rose’s birth father. Then he turned his gaze to his father before asking, "Father, can you tell me what exactly happened? Why did you say you know about my mother-in-law’s past?"

"This is about Rose’s birth father...." Anthony paused for a moment to look at his son’s shocked expression. He knows his son must investigate this case but believes he has not yet received a result.

Evan, who had been sitting relaxed, instantly sat up straight with wide eyes, looking at his father. This surprised him because until he returned to Astington, Oscar had not given him a report about Nick. And now his father says he knows his wife’s father? For sure? Did this old man just want to humor him?

Trying to contain himself from being overly pleased, Evan remained silent without asking. He would hear what his father had to say.

"I’m sure you already know that Molly Wilson was never married. That’s because someone takes away her heart, and that someone is...." Anthony stopped again to glance at Marcel in front of him. Seeing his father like he was reflecting on Uncle Marcel, a thought suddenly appeared in Evan’s mind that Uncle Marcel might be Rose’s birth father.

"Christ!! Uncle Marcel, you’re not my father-in-law, are you?" Evan asked doubtfully.

Marcel choked, hearing Evan’s words. How could it be that he is Rose’s Father?

"What? Hahaha, no, no. Certainly not. I’m not your father-in-law, but when your father-in-law met Molly, your father and I were with him. That night we saw her in the cafe in North City, and your father-in-law and mother-in-law were instantly attracted to each other...." Marcel Quinn told what happened 23 years ago. Their encounter with Molly was still vivid in his mind.

Evan was shocked to hear the story. All this time, after he struggled to find Nick’s identity, it turned out that his Father and Uncle Marcel knew about him.

"Yes... that night, I remember that your father-in-law just returned to the hotel room before dawn. I don’t know where he is and whether he spent the night with Molly. But what I do know is that the next day, in the afternoon, they made an appointment to meet, but Molly never showed up...."

Anthony said sadly, remembering how unlucky his best friend was.

"W-Who is he?" Evan asked curiously. Waiting for his father to answer his question could make his heart beat fast, too excited to know Nick’s identity.

Instantly Evan’s body froze the moment he remembered this nickname. If his Father and Uncle Marcel know his father-in-law, then that ’Nick’ must be uncle Nicholas? First Uncle!?

Evan’s heart sank when he connected all the puzzles in his head. Instantly his eyes widened as he looked at his father. "F-Father... don’t tell me, my father-in-law is my F-First Uncle?"

"Indeed he is...." A faint smile appeared on Anthony Collins’ face. Until now, he still couldn’t believe that he was in-law with his best friend. And he could feel what his son was feeling right now. He must be in shock. Just like the first time he saw Molly at his son’s wedding.

"Evan, I have to give you a thumbs up because you got to meet Rose. And marrying her. If you hadn’t married her, we might never have been able to find Molly by now. In the past, your First uncle had to endure grief and heartbreak for so long. It was because Molly didn’t come where they were supposed to be met. We tried to find her, but we didn’t know her last name. Until now, your Father and I still don’t know why Molly didn’t come to meet your First Uncle..."

Chapter 212: Did Uncle Know?

"Yes! What your Uncle Marcel said is absolutely true. To this day, we are confused as to why Molly didn’t come to meet your Uncle Nick. And since then, your uncle never gave up trying to find her. We also helped him, but at that time, technology was not as advanced as now. We can’t find her no matter how hard we try...." Anthony Collins took a deep sigh.

He wanted to ask Molly about that at his son’s wedding. Still, he held himself because he wanted to make sure Nicholas first if Molly Wilson was indeed Nicholas’s first crush.

"Did you know why? Why did Molly never come?" Marcel Quinn looked at Evan curiously. Likewise, with Anthony, he waits for Evan to say something.

After a long silence, Evan was finally able to say something. "It’s because when my mother-in-law went to the appointment location to meet him, she had an accident and was immediately rushed to the hospital. That same day she was brought back to East city by her friends. And she was discovered at the hospital in East City, suffering memory loss. Especially her memories of staying in North City. She didn’t remember anything, including meeting Uncle Nick." Evan paused to breathe for a moment before he continued. He saw how shocked his father and uncle were.

"A few weeks ago, my mother-in-law finally regained her lost short memories. She remembers Nick and how she got pregnant after returning from North City. Well, I believe Father and Uncle definitely know what happened to my mother-in-law with First Uncle, right?" Evan looked at both of them as he sighed again, feeling sad about how miserable Molly and Rose’s life was.

"My Mother-in-law became pregnant after returning from North City. She doesn’t even know who the man who got her pregnant was...." Evan looked at his father before saying, "Father, that’s why I really hate you when you are against my relationship with Rose! Even though she doesn’t carry her father’s last name, she is the woman I like. You should respect my choice!" Evan felt angry about how cheap his father said about Rose’s background. Until now, when he remembered his father’s rejection, his heart ached.

"Son, I’m really sorry... That time because I’m not yet met her." Anthony said regretfully.

"What! Second brother, you... you didn’t accept Rose!! How dare you?" Marcel narrows his eyes, looking at Anthony feeling mad. "If our first brother knows, I bet he will smack you!"

Evan ignored his father’s apology. His father should apologize to Rose, not him. He looks at Uncle Marcel, "Does the first uncle know who the patient he treats? I mean, he already knew it was Molly?" Evan asked.

"We haven’t told him. We’re afraid he can’t concentrate...." Marcel replied while glancing at his watch. The surgery should be over by now. He took a landline at the small table near his seat and made a call. "How’s Molly Wilson’s surgery?" After a few minutes of hearing the report, a smile appeared on Marcel’s face.

"He’s finished! Let’s go downstairs. We need to tell him...." Marcel immediately stood up, followed by Anthony.

"Uncle, Father... don’t say anything to the others, especially Rose. I will tell her directly...." Evan pleaded. He wanted to convey this news directly to his wife. Hopefully, she can be more excited and happy, not sad anymore.

The three of them used a special elevator directly to the lounge area of the doctor who had just performed the surgery. When Evan arrived at the room, he showed a tall man with short dark blonde hair standing in the corner. He was still wearing a surgical gown. When they approach simultaneously, the man looks at them with a friendly smile.

"Oh hey, you guys come?" Nicholas asks as he removes his surgical gown.

"Uncle..." Evan greeted him respectfully. "Thank you for saving my mother-in-law."

"First Brothers! We need to tell you about something, but we need to go to a quiet place...." Anthony couldn’t wait to tell Nicholas about Molly.

Nicholas frowned, looking at Anthony, who seemed in a hurry. Though he was still tired of standing for almost 5 hours, he was curious why the looks on Anthony and Marcel’s faces looked weird. As if they had something important to say to him. And when he saw Evan, it was the same. His expression was similar to his two best friends. He quickly took off his surgical gown and followed them.

He was surprised why they went up to the top floor.

Several years ago, he had done many operations in this hospital, and he knew they were heading to Marcel’s office right now.

"Tell me, what happened? Why do you all look so tense?" Nicholas looked at them one by one, and then he stopped at Anthony. "Especially you... second brother. You look pressured to tell me something!?"

"This is about...." Anthony paused when he saw the First brother raise his hand as if to ask him to stop talking. Anthony frowned.

"Anthony Collins!" Nicholas’ voice sounded dire enough to make Anthony freeze. "I feel disappointed in you. Why didn’t you tell me that Evan got married? Did you forget I’m Evan’s godfather? How could you treat me like no one?"

"T-That’s..." Anthony was speechless. He wanted to tell him that he was not invited to his son’s wedding. But remembering his son’s reason will make everyone nervous. He will just shut his mouth now. "First Brother, please calm down. That’s not important. The important thing is... who is my daughter-in-law!?"

Nicholas frowns. Confused with Anthony’s words.

Why did he ask him? Did he know who Evan’s wife was?

He looked at Evan for a few seconds before he asked, "Did I know your wife? Who is she?"

Evan looked at his father-in-law opposite him, "Uncle, you didn’t know who she was. But, you know her mother...."

Nicholas grew even more confused. "You mean the patient I treated earlier? Do I know her? Really? Who, when, and where?"

Chapter 213: I Finally Found You

Marcel Quinn and Anthony Collins exchange glances when they hear Nicholas’s question. They can guess their friend never read the patient’s name. He only did the surgery if asked. This godly skilled doctor decided to retire from his medical career after officially serving in the Astington Military’s Medical Service. He only performs surgery when necessary, and his habits are still the same as before.

"Did you read her name?"

Marcel chuckled when he saw the first brother shake his head. Before Marcel wanted to answer him, he saw him open his phone like he was looking for something.

"Her name is Molly Wilson?" Nicholas’ heart raced when he read ’Molly’ in the file Evan sent to him before leaving for the capital. "This... Molly?" He lifted his head, looking at Anthony and Marcel. "You guys mean the girl in the past?"

"Hmm... she is. Her name is Molly Wilson!"

Nicholas’ cell phone slipped from his hand when he heard Anthony’s words. He stood from his seat and walked fast out of the room. Everyone is shocked. They follow him in a hurry. No one spoke, but they felt tense looking at his face.

Soon Nicholas stood outside the Recovery Room to see the woman who had just been on his surgery table lying motionless. His eyes stared intently at the woman’s face.

During the surgery, he didn’t see her face, and looking at her face now, made his heart race. This woman’s face is similar to Molly, whom he met 23 years ago.

Instantly Nicholas’ knees felt weak; he almost fell down, unable to withstand the weight of his limb. Luckily someone caught him. When he looks back, he meets Evan’s eyes. For a moment, he looked at this young man’s eyes with a grateful feeling. Then he turned his gaze again to Molly.

In such a short time, his life has changed. He finally found the girl who could melt his cold heart decades ago. After so many years without ever thinking of any romance in his life, he suddenly has a daughter. And now, he also has a son-in-law.

Was all this just a dream? As he always imagined the past few years?

He doesn’t know how many nights he had imagined meeting Molly, marrying her, and having a child with her. And in just a blink of an eye, God granted his wish. His more profound dream that he always keeps in his heart; having his own family.

This all feels unreal.

He had to talk to Molly so he would know this wasn’t just a dream. His mind had not entirely accepted all this news.

Nicholas turns his gaze again at Evan beside him. This capable young man always impressed him. He is so intelligent and brave. He has watched him since he was born and grew up. Now, this young man is married to his daughter. It feels strange to know this young man is now his son-in-law.

"F-Father-In-Law..." Evan said softly, but Nicholas could hear it so clearly it was like a beautiful melody tickling his ears. For the first time, someone called him that, ’Father-In-Law.’

"Evan! Are you really my son-in-law? Where’s my daughter now?" Nicholas’ voice trembled. He never expected his one-night stand with Molly would give him a daughter. He can’t hide how happy he is. But that comfortable feeling only lasted for a moment because his heart immediately felt hurt when he realized how miserable Molly’s life was to raise her daughter alone. Without him.

Countless questions suddenly appeared on Nicholas’ mind, and it felt like they assaulted his mind. Torture him until he felt his heart ache; How has Molly lived all this time? How did she raise their daughter? Do their lives suffer? Where do they live? Did Molly remarry a man named Wilson?

His heart shattered at the thought of Molly marrying another man and her daughter using another man’s name after her name.

"Her name is Rose Wilson. She was still exhausted from the long-distance flight. She was also a little stressed thinking about her mother, making her unable to sleep. Right now, my mother is giving her sleeping pills..." Evan said. He just received a text from his mother informing him that Rose is now sleeping well.

"Father-In-law, I hope you don’t mind if I tell Rose about you first before you meet her. I’m afraid she’ll be surprised if she meets you before that...." Evan continued his words.

Nicholas nods in agreement.

He patted Evan’s shoulder gently, "Evan, follow me!" Without saying anything to Anthony and Marcel, who were still standing behind them, he left. He needs to talk to Evan before entering the recovery room to accompany Molly. He wanted to know what happened in the past and how Molly and Rose lived.

Nicholas stood at the end of the empty corridor. It was just him and Evan in the place.

For a moment, Nickolas stood there looking down at the street below. He had not returned to this city for several months because he was conducting biological weapons research in a very secret place. All this time, he cut his life from other people by only focusing on his research and away from city life. He never thought he would return to this city again and witness how beautiful the city’s scenery at night was from this high building. While in the past few years, he spent his life off the grid, hidden from the crowd and sun. It’s rare to see the sun let alone nightlife as grand as this.

"Molly! I finally found you...." He talked in his heart, feeling blissful because he finally found the woman who had taken away his heart. It’s about time he will speak again with her, and he will marry her.

After a few minutes of deep thought, Nicholas turned his head, looking at Evan beside him, "Evan, tell me everything. Starting from why Molly didn’t show up that day?" He asked. This question torments him to this day.

Nicholas knows Evan must know the answer!

Chapter 214: Tell Her

Evan knew everything from what Rose said and what he read from Oscar’s report about his mother-in-law’s past. He told his father-in-law all that information, including how his father first recognized Molly at his wedding and started to do a DNA test.

Nicholas fell silent hearing Evan tell him everything. He can’t hide how delighted he is now, but something bothered his mind; Has Molly ever married?

"Father and Uncle Marcel said DNA test results, you and my wife are the same. Rose is your daughter...."

"You said, Wilson, is Molly’s father’s name?"

"Yes!"

"She never married after giving birth to my daughter?"

"Never!" Evan answered quickly. He remembers clearly that Rose ever asked her mother; ’why did she never want to marry again? Even though she is still young and beautiful?’ His mother-in-law said she was never interested in other men and felt her heart empty as someone took it away.

Now, Evan knows who did it. This man opposite him is the man who stole his mother-in-law’s heart.

He felt goosebumps when he realized Rose’s parents were destined to be together. Because what he heard was that his First Uncle also never had a girlfriend. In fact, rumors spread among their close family; First Uncle only likes the same sex. He is a guy.

As if someone had just pulled a plug from Nicholas’s worried head, his mind became clear. His worries about Molly marrying another man disappeared suddenly. He couldn’t hide his happy smile when he knew Molly felt the same way about him.

After sinking into this puddle of happiness that he had not felt for a long time, Nicholas saw his son-in-law, who was silent beside him.

"Evan! Thank you for taking care of my family. Uncle feels very indebted to you. If it weren’t for you, I might not have found them by now." He paused for a breath and continued,

"I’m sure you’ve heard from your father and uncle Marcel if I’ve been looking for Molly ever since. However, all my efforts have been in vain. I can’t find her. And a few years after our encounter, my heart gradually closed. Closed to any woman out there. Molly’s affection imprints in my mind way too strong. I can’t forget her until now. And because of that, I promised not to fall in love again with another woman. I was too afraid to feel this way again; afraid of being left behind after the sweet moment..."

Although his meeting with Molly only happened once, when they spent the night together, many things happened and made Nicholas fall in love with her in a short time. She was a gentle, pretty, amiable, and cheerful girl. She managed to make his heart flutter, to make him fall in love with her shortly. And he asked Molly to see him again the next day because he wanted to propose to her before he entered his military training. But God meddled with their destiny. Keeping them apart for so long.

After Nicholas poured out his gratitude and what bothered her mind and heart to Evan. He said goodbye. The man feels that needed to stay beside Molly. He had a lot to say to Molly. He was aware Molly wouldn’t hear him but staying near her and holding her hand was enough to cure his longing after decades of not seeing her.

But before he left, he looked back again to look at his son-in-law. "Evan, don’t tell anyone about Molly and Rose for a while. Especially my family. I’ll tell the Old Man first before telling the whole family...."

Evan nods.

He stood in his place, looking at his father-in-law walking away. After a few minutes, he headed to the VVIP wardroom. He can’t wait to tell his wife this happy news.

When Evan arrived at the VVIP wardroom, he saw his mother talking with a nurse.

"Son! You finally come. Why did you take so long!?" Doris scolds her son as she stands from the sofa. "I still have surgery tonight. So, I will leave now. Let your wife sleep for a while. She looks so exhausted." She left the room with a nurse following her behind.

"Thank you, mother...." Evan walked his mother to the door. After looking his mother away, he walked to the hospital bed. His heartfelt ache when seeing his wife was sleeping with her face looking so pale and her lips, which used to be moist, now looked dry. He knew his wife must be dehydrated from crying too much.

Slowly he touched her hand, and he rubbed it gently.

After a while...

Evan sits on the chair beside the bed. As soon as he settled and leaned his back on the chair, tiredness overtook him.

Since leaving Tuscany, he hasn’t closed his eyes and hasn’t even eaten anything. This incident really drained his mind and energy. However, he couldn’t show his tiredness and worry to his wife because he knew she would panic even more.

Evan crossed his arms over his chest. His gaze fell on his wife’s face, who was sleeping like an angel. But slowly, his eyes felt so heavy.

After a few moments...

Rose woke up when she felt her body was cold.

Slowly she opened her eyes, but dazzling lights on the ceiling blinded her. She raised her hand to cover her eyes, but she felt her hand hurt. She was surprised when she saw an IV needle stuck in her hand. After a few seconds of adjusting her vision, she noticed her husband sleeping while seated. His face was lowered until his chin almost touched his chest. Instantly, a feeling of guilt tickled her heart; She was so focused on her sadness and worries that she forgot about him.

This man did everything for her. They were willing to cancel all their honeymoon plans and flew back to the country without saying anything. He also arranged all the help for her mother even though he was far from Astington.

Rose was so grateful this man was her husband.

Chapter 215: Meet Nick (1)

Rose woke up slowly. She wanted to hold Evan’s head from tilting, but before she could sit adequately, she heard Evan scolding her.

"Why are you awake? Sleep again..." He deftly helped her to lie back down, but she immediately refused.

"Hubby, I’m feeling much better after a few hours of sleep." Rose sits on the bed after Evan helps her to sit comfortably. "Evan, you look exhausted. You should sleep, or you may be sick!"

"Do you feel hungry? Do you want me to buy food for you?" Evan completely ignores her words.

"I’m not hungry..." Rose shook her head. She is not hungry. But, what bothers her mind now, is her mother’s condition. "How is mom? Did the surgery go well?" She saw a clock in the room. Almost 9 PM. Her mother should have finished the surgery, right!?

"The surgery finishes. And success. But, at this moment, Mother is still in the recovery room. She’ll be in that room for a few hours. We can’t meet her now, not yet...."

Rose thanked God over and over again in her heart. She can’t describe how happy she is hearing this good news. It makes Rose a bit relaxed. She just needed to wait for her mother to wake up.

"Can we see her from outside?"

"Yes, we can. But before that, there’s something I want to tell you...." Evan paused. He thought of the right words to tell her about her father. But a few seconds later, Evan saw her wife’s face turn worried. He can see through her blurry eyes that she must be concerned again about her mother.

"Wife, it’s about Nick! Not your mother...." Evan’s smile reassured her.

Rose felt slightly relieved. She thought Evan would tell her about her mother’s actual condition. Gosh!

"Did you find any info about him?" Rose asks casually. A few days ago, Evan told her that right now, he was investigating Nick. Her husband is trying to find him. But, after that day, he never updated her about it again. She thought he must have failed to find Nick.

"I did not find him...." Evan said.

Rose slightly chuckled. She already guessed it. "It’s okay. I knew it would be hard to find him..."

She knows it must be challenging to find someone without his last name. Although she was a little disappointed, it was only for a moment because for her, living with her mother was more than enough. She is not a child anymore. She now has a husband. She doesn’t need a father figure like she did when she was little.

"I met him...."

Evan’s follow-up words were able to make Rose sit up straight. Her eyes stared sharply at him. Trying to find out if his words weren’t a joke.

"Don’t be kidding, hubby!"

"Do I look like I’m joking now?" Evan said seriously. His words could make Rose’s body suddenly turned stiff. She was totally shocked.

Evan found her birth father. Nick!? Was she in her dream now?

Rose tries to pinch her hand, but later she screams because her hand hurts.

"I’m not dreaming!" She murmurs.

"Of Course, this is not your dream...." Evan slightly laughs as he cares for her hands gently. "Your father wants to meet you."

She was lost for words and didn’t know how to answer him. She just sat motionless in her place as she blinked several times, looking at him. Her mind is completely fuzzy. She couldn’t think clearly. Too shocked by the news she hears.

Evan understood that his wife needed time to process all this news. He didn’t say anything. Instead, he held her hand and gently stroked the back of her hand.

After a while, Rose finally had a few questions that worried her mind.

"Hubby, are you sure he was Nick that my mother met in the past!?" Rose is afraid Evan found the wrong person. And also, how can he be so sure when her mother hasn’t even met the man?

"Yes, he is...." Evan could understand Rose’s doubts because earlier, he was not so sure at first but after hearing that there was a DNA test result. He became even more convinced. "My father asked his friend to do a DNA test between you and your father, and the results were as expected ...."

Hearing this, Rose frowns. Do they do DNA tests with her and Nick? When? Why didn’t she know about this? And how could Evan’s father know about Nick? Did Evan ask his father for help?

Rose shook her head, trying to throw away many questions in her head.

"Hubby! Please tell me everything. I feel lost now. I want to know everything. And how could your father know about Nick?"

Evan calmly smiled before he explained everything to her.

After hearing everything Evan said, Rose was suddenly muted. Without a word. Without showing expression, happy, sad, or anything. At this moment, a strange feeling suddenly appeared in her heart. She didn’t know what it was.

After a while of silence, lost in thought, Rose suddenly heard Evan ask her. And the question seemed to pull her back to reality.

She was thrilled between joy and fear.

"Are you ready to meet him? I will ask him to come here. So you can talk with him..."

Rose nodded without hesitation. She couldn’t wait to see what his father was like and who he really was.

"But, before you call him... Can you ask the nurse to remove this? I feel better now. I don’t think I need this IV anymore. My hand hurts so much..." Rose raises her hand slightly, looking at Evan with her pitiful-looking eyes.

Soon, the female nurse came in and removed her infusion.

At the same time, Evan made a call. After asking First Uncle to come, he also excused himself. He wanted to give his wife and First Uncle time to talk.
