Chapter 26: Blame Your Son-In-Law

Evan was so happy to hear Rose’s words.

It had only been a few hours since he had seen her. He had already missed her so much. It felt like he wanted to teleport there and embrace her tightly.

"Me too! I feel like I want to go back there and stay with you. My family gathering here will be boring without you around...." Evan took a deep sigh while slumping his body to his bed.

He really hates coming back to his main house. Because her mother is always bothering him about arranged marriage. He always avoids it when there is a family gathering or party at his home. But now, he couldn’t help it because today was his grandfather’s birthday party. He couldn’t ignore his grandfather.

Rose was surprised to hear Evan. How could Evan think like that? Does he have some falling-out with his family? Fearing that this man would return to East City to meet her, she immediately coaxed him...

"Evan, I miss you so much. But, I will feel terrible if you come back here and leave your family gathering because of me. Please, you don’t have to do that for me...." She could only chuckle when she heard Evan take a deep breath. "Also, we will meet tomorrow for lunch, right?

"No! I will come to your house in the morning. Then we will go to my office? Or do you want to go to campus?" As final year students, they no longer have to be present on campus. Because in just a few days they will finish college.

Rose suddenly felt tense hearing about campus. She didn’t want to go there. She was afraid to hear all the nasty gossip about her. Moreover, her classmate informed her that Dustin’s fans cursed her for leaving their idol.

She hates it the most because scumbag Dustin sent her a text message. He asked to meet again to say something important. Right now, she doesn’t want to meet Dustin. She had made it clear to Dustin about her feelings. There’s nothing more to talk about with him.

Rose immediately said goodbye to Evan when she heard her mother knocking on her bedroom door.

"Why haven’t you come out yet? Breakfast is already cold!" Molly opens the door and scolds her daughter. "You can’t be lazy! Or my son-in-law will leave you. Did you know men don’t like lazy and slow girls?"

"Gee, mom! You can blame your son-in-law because he made me late for breakfast...." Rose chuckled and ignored her mother. In a hurry, she prepared her backpack. They would go to the hospital as soon as she finished breakfast.

"What!? Why didn’t you tell me my son-in-law called? I also wanted to say hello to him...." She hit her daughter on the back while walking ahead of her.

"MOTHER!!" Rose glared at her mother. "Why did you hit me?" She shakes her head while continuing to walk when she sees her mother ignore her.

"Sister Rose! Can we cancel going to the hospital? Can we go next time? Your mother is very healthy and strong, don’t worry too much...mm?" Molly coaxes her little daughter. She doesn’t like hospitals.

What’s more, Molly had to fast before doing the test. When she sees her daughter enjoying her breakfast voraciously, she suddenly feels hungry.

"Mom! This is for your own health! And as I told you before, I don’t want to hear your excuses anymore. Well, you clearly know my reason, right?"

Rose’s eyes narrow, looking at her mother’s eyes before continuing her saying.

"I have to make sure you are healthy before I leave for the capital."

Her mother’s health is the first priority in her life right now. There’s no room for discussion.

Seeing how her stubborn little girl didn’t waver with her words, she couldn’t help but sigh deeply. She couldn’t change her daughter’s stance. She would just go along with it even though she thought her daughters were too generous to donate their precious money to the hospital. She really knows her body, she is very healthy. She had never felt sick before.

Later...

They both are in the car heading to the hospital. Rose was so focused on driving her mother’s old SUV. She occasionally glanced at her mother, who was sleeping beside her.

Remembering her previous life, her mother died because of a severe illness, making her heart feel like it had been stabbed by hundreds of nails. It really hurts!

She tries to brave herself with the test results. She never stopped praying to God. In this life, her mother wouldn’t get sick at all.

Soon they arrive at the hospital.

They didn’t wait long because Rose had made an appointment beforehand. While her mother was taking a series of tests, Rose remained in the waiting room with an uneasy feeling. She tries to divert her mind by checking her phone.

A few incoming messages show on the screen. But Rose wasn’t interested in reading it, worried that her mood would change if they just wanted to discuss her photo at the cinema with Evan.

She wanted to toss her phone into her bag a few seconds before. There was an incoming call. But her heartfelt tense again the moment she read the caller’s name.

"This scumbag, why is he still calling me?" Rose murmurs while staring at her cellphone. She doesn’t want to answer his call. She had made it clear that she didn’t want to receive any messages or calls from him.

After the incoming call was left unanswered. Rose feels much relieved. But later, a new message arrived.

Now she was debating whether to read Dustin’s message or not?

After deep thought, she decided to read it.

[Asshole] Babe, I need to talk to you. I promise this is the last time I ask to see you. But if you refuse, I’ll not stop until we meet! So please, for the last time, let’s meet up.

Instantly she felt like beating up that scumbag Dustin.

Chapter 27: Mother, Let’s Move

Rose cursed Dustin a hundred times in her heart while massaging her nape, which suddenly felt hurt.

How could this man ask to meet again? Between them, there was nothing more to talk about.

She didn’t want to see him again because the urge to beat him to death always engulfed her mind every time she saw his face. She tries hard to forget her tragic past. She will go to the flowery path without that scumbag.

But now she feels confused.

If she refused this time, Dustin would be bothering her all the time.

After some time...

Rose types fast on her cellphone. She decided to meet him. This is the only way to make him stop bothering her.

When Molly finished her medical checkup, she found her daughter sitting pensively with a gloomy-looking face. Her gaze was fixed on the window. Molly waited a few minutes just to go to observe, but her daughter was motionless. Her daughter looked like a statue among the many people passing by.

Molly’s heart felt like it would burst to realize that her daughter must be worried about her medical checkup results. She took a deep breath and walked over to her.

"My silly daughter... I’m still alive and healthy like this, but why does your face look like you are grieving?" Molly chuckled while sitting beside her daughter. She took her hand and patted it gently. Trying to calm her worried daughter.

Rose snapped out.

She looked at her mother while holding her laughter. Just now, she wasn’t thinking about her mother, but she was distraught with Dustin.

Molly smoothed her daughter’s messy hair before continuing, "Rose, My little daughter, I’m fine... Don’t worry too much. I will live longer than you think. I will die after seeing you have lots of children and become fat...." She playfully teases her daughter. Try to make her laugh.

But Molly’s efforts were in vain because her words made Rose feel her body tremble.

How could her mother casually say that?

If God intervened, what happened in her previous life could be repeated in this life. No! She can’t allow that to happen. Not this time.

"MOTHER! Can you stop saying these cursed words?" Rose glared at her mother. "You will live till hundred years. You can definitely see your grandson get married!"

"Hahaha, you silly girl, don’t talk nonsense." Molly pinched her daughter’s cheeks.

"Stop it, mom!"

"Sister Rose...let’s eat. I could die from hunger if you don’t give me food!" Since last night, she stopped eating to do a medical checkup today. After several hours of fasting, she was famished.

Rose couldn’t help but sigh at the sight of her mother turning like a teenager. Wrapped her arm around hers.

"Alright! Let’s go..."

Rose and Molly decided to have lunch across from the hospital building. There are several restaurants in the area.

Molly chose to eat at the barbeque restaurant. She was very hungry and she needed to eat a lot of meat to restore her stamina.

"Mom, what time will the test results come out?"

Rose casually asks while starting to swallow the steak slice by slice. For some reason, the delicious steak tasted bland on her tongue. Her appetite had faded entirely. She was so worried about her mother’s medical checkup test results. However, she tried not to show her worried expression to her mother.

"About three hours. You can leave me if you have other business... I can wait alone." Molly put down her fork, looking at her daughter.

"I will wait with you. I don’t have any plans today...." She deliberately took the time to accompany her mother.

"Where is my son-in-law?" Molly frowns, looking at her daughter.

"He is back to his family house in the capital...."

"Ah! So my son-in-law from there?" Molly was surprised. She thought Evan was from another city, not the Capital. Usually, people from the Capital will study at the prestigious campus there.

"So, when you move to the Capital, will you stay with him?" Molly, curious, wanted to know her daughter’s plan.

She really feels sad when she finds out her daughter has plans to move to the Capital. But she couldn’t hold her because her daughter was an adult. She had the right to determine the direction of her own life. As a parent, she can only support from behind and pray for the best for her.

"Mother! Of course not...." Rose suddenly felt no longer hungry even though half of the steak was still on her plate.

She put down her cutlery before she looked at her mother and continued, "Well, I will stay alone. But, if Evan proposes to me, I will think again about leaving with him..."

Although she is happy now that her daughter has Evan, seeing their relationship is so deep that she feels discouraged, even though only a bit. Imagine her little daughter will become someone else’s wife and have her own family.

She lowered her head, trying to hide her blurry eyes. Don’t want to make her daughter feel sad.

"Mom! Once I’m settled in the Capital, you must move with me... I don’t want you to stay here alone!" Rose could feel her mother was sad right now.

Molly is astounded when she hears her daughter’s words. Slowly she lifted her head, looking at her daughter’s beautiful hazel eyes. For a moment, they just stared without saying anything.

"How about our business here?" Finally, Molly could say something after thinking deeply about her daughter’s future plan.

"For minimart, we can appoint a professional who takes care of it. Or we can sell to other people. For houses, we can rent to others. Let’s start our new life in the Capital, mom...."

Molly felt tempted to move to the Capital because one of her dreams was to live in a glamorous city when she was a teenager. But that dream was dashed because her adoptive parents did not allow her to move to another town.

And now her daughter asks her to move to the Capital? Of course, she’s interested.

"When do you think you will be successful? Your mother is not young anymore. I can’t wait long. Ah, did you need something? I mean, do you have money to start your business? Mom has money. I will give you so that your dreams can come true, faster!" She chuckled slightly.

Rose was stunned and confused at the same time.

Should she tell her mother she needs money? Lots of money?

Chapter 28: The Past Remains The Same

"Mom, I have some money..."

Rose decides not to borrow money from her mother. She will think of a way to achieve her goals. After all, if her mother really got cancer, her mother would definitely need more money for treatment. She didn’t want to burden her any longer.

Molly looked at her daughter, unsure. She might not be well informed about starting a startup company. Still, she knows how much money is needed to create and run a business. What’s more, her daughter insists on starting her business in the capital.

"Do you really have money? Don’t lie to your mother...." This time Molly’s voice sounded serious.

Rose was taken aback when she saw her mother’s eyes looking straight into her. She can see her mother trying to read her expression. Whether she told the truth or lied.

"Of course, mom! So far, I have never used the money you gave me. Besides, I earn money from translating documents for my professor. And, have you forgotten that your child is a genius? So that I can get a full scholarship...."

Molly felt relieved. It’s been a while since she suspected that her daughter was doing something terrible to raise money for her ventures.

Later...

Molly took her wallet and placed a platinum card in her daughter’s hand.

"Daughter, take it. This is your money. I save some money every month in this bank account. I was going to give it to you when you got married. But, I think I’ll give it now because I know you need more money to start a business. Your savings are definitely not enough...." Molly convinced her daughter to accept the card.

Rose was utterly speechless.

How could she forget about this card? Her mother also gave her this card in her past life when she married Dustin. And the amount of money on the card was quite a lot to build an entertainment company. The company she made with her own money is run by Dustin. While her? She is just sitting in the house, never involved with the company or its business.

"M-Mom... this card, are you sure you will give it to me?" Rose looked straight at her mother’s eyes. She forgot how often she has admired how beautiful her mother’s eyes are, which are very similar to hers.

Molly nods while smiling at her daughter, "This card belongs to you. So, just accept it. And use that card to build your startup company. Even though the value is not much, I’m sure it’s enough to build a small-cap business, right?"

Rose was in touch with her mother’s words.

"Thank you, mom. I will use this money wisely. I promise you, I will bring you soon to the capital...." Rose continued her words as she wiped the tears flowing down her cheeks. She couldn’t help but cry even though she had tried to hold back her tears when she was in front of her mother. She didn’t want her mother to feel distraught.

"Stop crying, okay?! Why are you sad when you should be happy?" Molly scolds her crying baby. Even when she cries, her beauty is still visible. Her blushing nose and cheeks make her look like a living doll.

"I’m not sad. I’m just touched that you saved money for my marriage...." She lied. She was sad because she remembered her past. She still remembers how hurt she was back then. After sacrificing enough for that scumbag, she offered her youth, money, feelings, and future. He changed. Totally changed from before they got married.

"I’m your mother. If not me, who else will give you a wedding present?" Molly smiles. In this world, she only has her daughter. She would do anything for her only daughter. She will give her the best so that she can be happy.

Rose, getting sad. This time she didn’t lie to her mother. This time she was crying because she was so touched. Her mother is her best friend, the only human she respects and is willing to give her life if needed.

Since she was born, she only knew her mother. Their bond was so strong that they could understand each other without saying anything.

Soon they both finished their lunch and went back to the hospital to wait for the medical check-up result.

It was not long before the result finally came out.

They were both sitting in front of the gray-haired senior Doctor, wearing gold-rimmed glasses.

Before entering the Doctor’s room, Rose was so worried when she saw the writing on the door; Oncology Specialist Dr. George Wilner.

"Ms. Wilson, I’m sorry to inform you. The results of your early examination declared you have breast cancer, probably stage 3 cancer. However, we have to do a series of other tests, and will decide what we have to do next...."

Molly froze when she heard Doctor George Wilner explain her illness. At this moment, she didn’t understand what he was saying. She sat quietly, looking at him, and only nodded slowly when asked. Her mind suddenly didn’t function normally.

Even when the Doctor smiled at her trying to calm her down, she couldn’t say anything.

"Don’t worry, Ms. Wilson. There is a significant chance that you will be cancer-free..." Doctor George Wilner continues his words.

Seeing her mother just sitting beside her without responding to the Doctor makes Rose worry. Her mother must be shocked now.

Rose immediately took over the conversation with the Doctor. She asked what they had to do and prepare. She also asked the Doctor to do her best to aid her mother. And her mother treated her as soon as possible to minimize the spread of cancer cells.

As for the cost?

It is not a problem for her. The important thing is that her mother is healthy. She could afford whatever fees the hospital charged.

Right now, what worries her is; that her mother’s past remains the same. She couldn’t be sad or even afraid. She had been in the same position before, so her only option was to be more sturdy and intelligent to face this ordeal. Hoping the new future will be changed for the better.

Chapter 29: [Bonus Chapter]Mentally & Physically Exhausted

At 10 PM.

Rose and her mother arrived at their house.

They were both exhausted, so they didn’t have the energy to make dinner.

"Mom, do you want me to order dinner?" Rose saw her mother walk into her room.

"No! I feel like I don’t want to eat... you can order for yourself. I will just sleep. I’m exhausted. Good night!" Molly said while waving her hand and entering her bedroom.

"Good night, mom... tell me if you need anything!"

Rose feels her heartache seeing her mother’s back disappear behind the door. She could feel her mother still in a state of shock. On the way home from the hospital, not a word came out of her mother’s lips about the disease. Rose could see how the illness was starting to affect her mother’s mood.

She took a deep sigh as she walk to her room. For some reason, she wasn’t hungry either. She decided to skip dinner. She feels mentally and physically exhausted. A warm bath, sleep, and Evans is what she needs right now.

She really wishes Evan would call her before this night ends.

Since this afternoon, he had not contacted her at all. She wanted to call him a few times, but she was worried it would bother him. She is aware that tonight he will be busy with his family gathering.

Rose dragged her heavy limbs towards the bathroom. After filling the warm water in the bathtub, she soaked. It feels so good. Her body, which felt so exhausted, slowly began to feel comfortable.

She set a timer before she closed her eyes, afraid she fell asleep in the bathtub.

20 minutes later, Rose is awakened by the sound of a timer. She quickly got out of the tub. Then she used her nightgown and lay on her soft bed in a hurry. Once again, she glanced at her cell phone. Still, no messages or missed calls from Evan.

This somehow saddened her.

"Evan! I miss you...." At times like this, she really needs to talk to other people. She needs a shoulder to cry on. But it seems her lover is busy.

Rose took a deep sigh to make her tight chest feel better. She had already forgotten how many times she had done that!?

After staring at her cell phone for a while, she sends a text message to Evan. Then she set the timer and turned off her cellphone.

Feeling so exhausted, she fell asleep as soon as she closed her eyes.

The next day.

Rose felt sore all over her body when she woke up. Yesterday, after the Doctor read the test result, her mother continued to do a few tests. They spent all day in the hospital because she didn’t want to wait long. The sooner her mother has surgery, the better.

The Doctor arranged for her mother to have the surgery next week.

In a hurry, Rose got up from her bed to the bathroom. She doesn’t have much time. Evan will be here soon.

As soon as Rose came out of the bathroom, she was surprised to see her mother in her beautiful black dress. She looked neat like she was ready to go out somewhere, but a blue apron still wrapped around her waist. She was standing in front of the open door.

"Daughter, do you not feel ashamed of mister Sun? Look..." Molly pointed at the window before she continued, "Sun has been set up for a long time. But you just woke up, now?" Molly shakes her head, looking at her lazy little daughter. She is still in a white bathrobe, and her hair is still wrapped with a towel.

"I’m going to visit your elder’s graveyard!" Rose was surprised to hear that. Molly continued, "I have prepared breakfast for you. You must eat breakfast before leaving the house...."

"Thank you, mom...."

"And, don’t forget to wash your dish!" Molly turns back, leaving her daughter’s bedroom.

"Oooh! I will..." Seeing her mother had left the room, she immediately remembered the promise to meet Evan today. "Mom, today I will go out with Evan. And maybe I will come back in the evening, so you don’t need to prepare dinner for me...."

"Okay!" Molly shouted.

Rose immediately put on the clothes she had prepared on the bed when her mother closed the door.

Later...

She is sitting at the dining table and starting her breakfast.

Actually, Rose wanted to forbid her mother from driving alone to her grandparents’ graveyard. She is worried that her mother would be too tired and weaken her immune system even more. However, last night her mother asked her to treat her as usual so that she would not stress about the illness.

Rose agreed with her mother. Because the more her mother thinks about her illness, the more stressed she will be.

While Rose was still enjoying her breakfast, her cell phone vibrated. She saw Evan’s name appear on the screen. She quickly answered the call,

"Rose, I’m in front of your house."

Rose stood up and ran to the front door. The moment she saw Evan standing right before her, she felt her chest tighten. Her eyes feel blurry. Since last night, she has held herself back from shedding any tears. But seeing Evan in front of her made all her defenses collapse. She buries herself into his sturdy chest.

"Evan..." She whispers between her tears.

Evan is taken back when his girl throws herself into his embrace. Instantly his chest ached, seeing her cry in his arms.

"Everything will be alright, Rose! Your mother is a strong person. She will be treated by the best doctors in this field." This morning when he woke up and saw a message from Rose about her mother’s condition, he was so shocked. He immediately flew to this city to meet her.

"Hmm... I know. But still, the Doctor said she is probably in stage three cancer. I read a few articles. It makes me scared...."

"Everything will be fine. Believe me. I will look for the best Doctor for your mother!" Evan stroked her back gently.

Rose immediately releases her embrace.

She wipes the traces of her tears that still roll down her cheeks while she smiles at him. She was so grateful now that she had Evan.

Chapter 30: Red Roses

Rose feels much better now. Then, she invited Evan into the house.

"Evan, I happened to be having breakfast now... eat with me if you haven’t had breakfast." She looks at Evan, who walks behind her.

Evan nods.

Last night he didn’t notice that his cell phone battery ran out, and he slept late because of his grandfather’s birthday party. Several of his relatives and friends attended the party. He couldn’t avoid chatting with them until late.

Then, after charging his cell phone and turning it on in the morning, he was shocked to read Rose’s text message.

Without saying goodbye to his family and without breakfast, he flew straight to East city to meet her right away. He blames himself for being too careless, not aware his phone is running out of battery.

He is upset with himself for finding out too late about Molly’s medical check-up result. He could imagine how panicked Rose was when she learned of her mother’s illness.

Seeing her walking slowly towards the kitchen to get a set of cutlery for him, he can see how devastated she is at the moment. Makes his heartache.

Unknowingly. He stood up from his chair and walked fast toward Rose to the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his head in her soft neck.

"I’m sorry, Rose! I’m not on your side when you need me. I’m really sorry." His deep voice slightly trembled. "Please don’t be sad anymore. I’m here now. I will help you to take care of everything. I will bring the best doctor in this country to cure your mother...."

Rose startled.

She slowly took Evan’s hand and turned to look at him. When their eyes lock on each other, she smiles at him.

"Evan, thank you..."

Evan smiled back at her. Slowly he lifted his hand to hold her chin. Their eyes were still staring at each other. Then his eyes looked at her lips making him draw his head closer to her. He gently kissed her soft and sweet lips.

Rose feels like flying when Evan’s warm lips touch her. She can feel how chaotic her heart is now. But the kiss is too fast. She had not had time to feel the sensation, his lips part away from her. Still, the quick stolen kiss she just got from Even made her heart flutter.

Now, she felt awkward and didn’t know which way to look as her eyes still fell on his lips which curled up and formed into a smile.

"Rose, let’s hurry up and eat now. We have a lot to do today...." Evan took her hand and led her to the dining table.

The two of them sat side by side while enjoying the breakfast provided by Molly.

Shortly after...

They both left the house and headed to Evan’s office in the Blue River Building at the business center street. Evan’s office was on the 20th floor, the top floor of the building.

This was Rose’s first time coming to this office.

Evan told her that the entire floor belonged to Starlight Investment. There’s a special elevator to the CEO’s Office so no one can see them; only his assistant and secretary can see them.

Rose saw 4 people meeting in a small lounge when they arrive on the 20th floor.

Rose feels nervous because this is her first time meeting Evan’s staff. She doesn’t know what to do. Rose follows Evan’s walk-in but later stops abruptly when Evan suddenly stops right before her. She almost bumps into his back.

All the four people stood and greeted Evan politely while they also stole a glance at Rose.

She saw Evan looking at her, "Are you ok?" He whispered.

"Hmm..." Rose nods. Then, Evan turns his gaze to his staff.

"Did you finish the task I asked you?" Evan asked the man staff with black frame glasses standing closest to them.

"Yes, boss. I’ve emailed the report to you...."

Evan nodded. Then he took Rose’s hand.

Rose tries to calm her restless heart when Evan holds her hand in front of his staff. She followed him while looking around. They walked towards the large black door at the end of the corridor, and they passed the meeting room and the desk working area. She believes that for his assistant and secretary.

Knowing that his girlfriend was nervous, Evan slightly smiled and glanced at her. He squeezed her soft hand as he wanted to calm her down. When he opens the door for her, he gives her his loving smile.

Rose could only flatter with his killer smile. And when she saw him draw his head closer to her, she froze.

"Don’t feel tense, Rose! This is my company. No one dares to talk bad behind your back...."

"E-Evan... can you close the door first!?" She was too shy because his staff still saw them. And she knows from the outside their current position like Evan was kissing her. Gosh!

Evan chuckled and closed the door.

Rose looked at Evan’s simple workspace. The room is not big but looks spacious with white paint on the walls, and almost all the rooms are only covered with glass with views of the East city. And the minimalist interior really suited Evan’s personality.

She saw a large black work desk with a typical black CEO chair. And, behind the CEO chair, there is a high display cabinet. The cabinet neatly arranged several books, pictures, and a few small cute objects she had never seen before.

In the middle of the room, there is a three-seater black leather sofa facing each other in the middle of the room, with a coffee table neatly placed in the middle and a single sofa right at the end.

In another corner near the glass window, she can see a square wooden meeting table complete with black chairs. In the middle of the meeting table, red roses are neatly arranged in a beautiful golden square box. It made Evan’s office feel fresher with the flower arrangement.

Her eyes still look at the pretty red roses. Then a peculiar thought appeared in her mind.

Who prepared the pretty red roses for his office?

Is the sexy female secretary she saw outside?

Rose was stunned by what she thought.

Right now, she can feel her heart sting when she remembers the meaning of red Roses. It means love and passion.

Instantly she felt jealous of that person!
