Chapter 46: Molly’s Surgery (4)

Rose stood looking at her mother, lying motionless inside the observation room. She can see how pale her face is. It causes her heartache. Silently her tears began to roll down, making her cheek turn wet.

She was crying because she was delighted. The doctor said her mother’s operation went well, and he was confident all the cancer cells had been removed. She will recover soon. Just wait a while until she regains her senses.

Her mother only needed to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation for the healing period.

Looking at his girl’s body shaking, Evan felt concerned about her sadness. He places his hand on her shoulder while tilting his head to look at her teary-looking eyes.

"Rose, don’t be sad. Aunty will wake up soon. The nurse will bring her to the room after they finish monitoring her condition. Let’s go back to the room waiting there..."

Rose glances at Evan while nodding. She follows Evan to the VIP ward with a step that feels much lighter than before.

"Evan, I’m not sad anymore. I’m so happy because my mother is now cancer-free...."

Soon they arrive at the VIP ward.

Rose can see Gavin, Evan’s assistant waiting in front of the room with a worried look on his face from afar.

Evan saw Gavin’s gloomy-looking face make him worry. He quickened his pace, but he led Rose to the room before he asked Gavin.

"Rose, you wait for me in the room. I will talk to Gavin for a moment...." Evan opened the door for her before he continued his words, "Don’t worry, nothing will happen to your mom..." Evan rubbed the top of her hair gently before closing the bedroom door.

Then he walked to the corner, passing Gavin. He stopped near the glass window, looking at the street below. His calm face turned darker.

Gavin followed him quietly and stood a few steps behind him without sound. He knew that his boss was currently upset, and he was sure that his boss had already guessed what he was going to say.

Gavin stares at his boss back, who looks dashing in front of him. He is waiting for any order his boss will give as usual.

"Speak!"

"OMaster asks you to return to the capital...."

Evan’s hand clenched into a fist. Is there a dog who wants to test his patience? He couldn’t let this happen.

"Tell him I will return tomorrow!" He turns back and looks at Gavin. "And you have to find out who leaked it. I need the name before tomorrow morning...."

"Boss, I will do it now...." Gavin bowed slightly then he walked quickly out of the frosty corridor. His big-icy boss is furious now. Someone might be sent out of the country tonight, and he hoped the dog wasn’t his acquaintance.

Rose couldn’t calmly wait inside the VIP wardroom.

Since then, she just paced back and forth without being able to sit for a second. Her thoughts were on her mother. And, of course, Evan looked tense when he saw Gavin earlier.

Her worries grow as she waits for Evan for almost 30 minutes, and he hasn’t come yet.

"Is there a problem?" She murmurs to herself while walking to the door.

Rose decided to look after Evan. Slowly she opened the door but didn’t see anyone in the corridor. She felt worried. Just before she wanted to look at the lounge, which is not far from the VIP wardroom, she saw Evan standing near the big glass window at the end of the corridor with his back facing her.

Seeing him not move for a while, she became even more confident that something was bothering him. She walked to him and stopped a few steps behind him.

"Evan..." She calls him after adjusting her face so as not to show him her worry-looking face. She saw Evan turn back, with his smile framing his face. But, Rose could clearly see there was worry in his eyes. It made her heart feel uneasy.

"Why did you come out?" Evan walked to her and took her hand. "Let’s wait inside. Your mother can be moved to this room. They’re on the way here...."

"Really!?" Rose was so happy to hear that.

"Hmm..."

"Is my mother awake?" Rose, can’t wait to see her mother come to her senses. She wanted to talk to her.

"Yes, she is..."

Evan opened the door and let the girl enter first. After they entered, he set a seat for Rose and took a water bottle for her from the fridge. "You should drink this. Your lips look so red and dry...It makes me want to kiss you now." Evan smiled when he saw her blush while biting her lips.

Soon they hear the footsteps of several people approaching the room. Rose stood from her seat and rushed to open the door. She saw some nurses pushing the hospital cot. She quickly gave way to them and followed the nurses into the nursing room for her mother.

Her eyes blurry when she saw her mother open her eyes and meet her. She looks so pale that it makes her heart feel hurt.

"M-Mom... are you awake? How are you feeling?" Rose walked to her bedside after seeing the nurses finish moving her mother to the bed.

"D-Daughter, mom is healthy. Why are you crying? I’m not dying, alright...." Molly is trying to tease her little daughter, who looks so sad. She can see how scared her daughter is. Her face looks ashen, and her eyes are swollen from a lot of crying.

She also feels scared. Before she was in surgery, she was so afraid would never wake up again and not see her daughter again. But now, she feels much relieved and happy because God grants her prayers. She was able to pass this surgery smoothly and wake up to see her little daughter.

Rose smiles between her tears, hearing her mother’s words. She wanted to throw her body at her mother and hug her tightly. But there was still an IV in her hand, and her chest was still bandaged. She restrains herself from doing that. She just took her hand and squeezed it gently.

"Thank you, Mom, because you fought to return to me... I love you so much!" Rose whispers.

Chapter 47: Doris Stearns

"Girl, your mother is right, don’t be sad... she will soon be healthy and can carry out her activities as usual." A pleasant woman’s voice suddenly heard from behind.

Rose was startled.

She turned to look. She was surprised to see a tall, slender female doctor walking inside. She looks pretty with her fair skin and pixie black hair. She looks the same age as her mother. Her outfit under her doctor’s robe looks stylish and from a luxury brand.

It makes Rose wonder, is this woman really a doctor? She looks different from the doctors she usually sees. This female doctor is like a model from a fashion magazine. Her present makes her curious.

"Doctor Doris Stearns, this is my daughter Rose...." Molly smiles, looking at her benefactor and then at her daughter. "Rose, pay respect to Dr. Doris. She’s the one who helps mom...."

Rose was surprised to know. So, this woman was the number one doctor who treated her mother? She still can’t believe Doctor Doris was so young. She thought the one treating her mother was an old senior doctor. This Doctor Doris must be a genius to be at the peak of her career when she was still young.

"Doctor Doris Stearns... Thank you so much for helping my mother." Rose sincerely thanks her because she flies to this city only to treat her mother. She was very grateful.

"That’s my duty, girl... no need to say thanks." Doris Stearn smiles, looking at Rose. This little girl is fascinating. She had natural beauty like her mother, but she was so messy.

Then, her eyes looked at a young man beside Rose, who looked cynical to see her. His black outfit made his face look even darker. She immediately turns her gaze to Molly and starts to inform Molly to do and don’t during her recovery at the hospital and at home later.

Rose also pays attention to all that Doctor Doris has to say to her mother. She needs to know all of this to take care of her mother until she is fully recovered.

"Alright, Ms. Wilson, I will say goodbye to you now. Because I have to return to the capital. From now on, my colleague will monitor your health. However, if there is anything you want to ask me, don’t hesitate to contact me at this number...." Doris handed Molly her name card.

Molly immediately accepts the name card and then thanks Doctor Doris again for her kindness.

"And Girl... I should go now. Call me if you want to ask anything...." She smiles at Rose and walks out of the room. Before that, she glances at the young man beside Rose and gives him a code to follow her.

"Thank you, Doctor Doris..." Rose slightly bowed to doctor Doris and saw her leaving the room.

"Rose, I’ll take Doctor Doris out...." Evan whispers to Rose and follows Doctor Doris out of the treatment room.

"What is it?" Evan coldly asks as he comes out of the room and sees Doctor Doris waiting for him in the corner.

"Hey! This is your reply after asking me to come here, all the way here, just to operate on an ordinary patient? What’s with your attitude?" Doris glared at Evan. She can’t believe this man’s attitude.

"What do you want to ask? Just say it!"

Evan’s frosty voice made Doris could only take a deep sigh. This Evan hasn’t changed at all. His attitude is just getting worse.

She thought he had started to change when she saw this man smile, and his eyes always looked sincere and loving when he looked at Rose. She is beginning to suspect that Rose has an unusual spot in Evan’s heart.

"This Miss Rose, I think I kinda like Miss Rose. She looks simple yet beautiful and kind...." Doctor Doris smiles when she looks at Evan’s gloomy face slightly turned bright. "So, she is the one who finally melted your frosty heart?" She playfully teases him.

Evan ignores Doris’ gaze as he walks to the corner looking at the scenery outside. He saw the sky slowly changing color. On the horizon, he could see the sun slowly setting.

"Can you answer me? So can I sleep in peace tonight?" Doris walks to follow Evan and stands beside him.

Then she turns to look at Evan, standing proudly beside her. His hands were tucked into his trouser pockets. He completely ignored her question. Something that Evan usually does.

"Fine! If you don’t want to answer it, I will go home now!" Doris helplessly said.

"Did you tell him?" An icy voice made Doris stop in her tracks. She looks back and sees his sharp dagger gaze looking at her. She was speechless. So, was this the reason his attitude changed drastically? Turns out he was suspicious of her.

"Who? The old one?" Her thick brow raised slightly, confused with his sudden question.

"No, the other one!"

"HELL NO!! Why should I talk to him?" She took a few steps toward Evan. "Did you forget I also hate him?" Her voice sounded unfriendly.

"Alright, you can go now!" Evan said while looking at Gavin, standing not far from them. "Gavin, arrange a helicopter for her to return to the capital..." Then he turned his back again, looking at the scenery, avoiding Doris’ irritated gaze.

"Evan! Is he making things difficult for you again? I will take care of everything in the capital... don’t worry!"

"No need. I will solve it myself."

Doris couldn’t understand Evan’s way of thinking. She couldn’t help but sigh, looking at his stiff back.

"Okay then, my time to go now...."

"Thank you..." Evan said without looking at Doris.

"I like her. I hope you will introduce me properly to her if you guys come to the capital." Doris said, then left. "Let’s go, Gavin...." She smiles at Gavin, and they walk to the elevator. She was so happy to learn that Evan now had the girl he liked.

Chapter 48: Feel Awful!

"How are you feeling now, mom?" Rose sat at her mother’s bedside, massaging her hands gently. She saw her face still pale, and her lips looked so dry.

"Feel awful! I wish the doctor would give me a pain killer...." After the anesthetic slowly disappears, she can feel her chest area hurt.

"You have to endure it, mom, and eat a lot. Earlier, the doctor said that if your condition improves, then 3 or 4 days from now, you can go home..." Rose knew her mother did not like staying in the hospital. So is she.

"I wish... I only stayed here for 2 nights. It feels more comfortable sleeping in my bed." Molly smiled bitterly. She hates hospitals, but now she has no choice. She must stay here until her health improves.

"Daughter, when is your final test?" Molly suddenly remembers her thesis test.

"The day after tomorrow... Mom, you’d better stay here while I have my thesis trial. You can go home until I’m done." "Hahaha, you silly girl! Well, you better go look in the mirror..." Molly laughs, looking at her sulky little daughter.

Rose was confused to see her mother look serious. She thought her mother was just joking. Was what she said true?

Rose went to the toilet in a hurry, and she was surprised to see the woman in the mirror.

"W-WHO are you?" Rose asked herself.

She was shocked looking at her appearance in the mirror. Then Rose remembers Evan. All this time, she was with Evan. He must have seen her awful face, right?

Gosh! Her pale face looked oily like someone poured canola oil on her face, her eyes were puffy, and her hair was messy. Not only that but the clothes she was wearing were already shabby. If people didn’t know her and saw her appearance now, they might think she hadn’t showered in two weeks. No wonder her mom said that she looked so ugly.

"Damn! How can I be like this?"

Rose took a deep sigh.

"I’m screwed! How could Evan still call me pretty?" Rose immediately undressed and took a quick shower.

She must wash and change her clothes before meeting Steve Adkins. Rose is imagining if Steve had seen her messy appearance earlier. In that case, he might think Rose was bullshitting him and would not be interested in her offer to acquire his company. He will run away.

"Aunty, where is Rose?" Evan didn’t see Rose in the room. Making him confused because he didn’t hear the girl coming out since he was outside.

"She’s taking a shower," Molly called Evan to sit in the chair by the bed. "Son-In-Law, thank you for your help. I know you’re the one who brought Doctor Doris to come here. You also changed my surgery schedule so it could be faster...." She was surprised when she received a phone call from the hospital informing her that the surgery could be moved forward.

Previously, it took a long time to arrange the doctors for an operation because of their busy schedule. But suddenly, she got a much earlier operating schedule. And from nurses, Molly learned that her doctor is also the best in this country. She quickly concludes that only Evan could do it. Because the only people who knew she was in surgery were herself, Rose, and Evan.

"I happen to know one of the doctors here. So, he helped me a little...." Evan couldn’t tell Molly what he was really doing. "And, I did it because you are my family, aunty. I will do whatever I do to help you and Rose."

Molly felt touched by Evan’s words. She raised her hand and took Evan’s hand.

"Once again, thank you, Son-In-Law... I am delighted that Rose found you. I hope you will always love her...." She paused to adjust her emotion, remembering how scared she was when she entered the operating room. Scary that she will never wake up again.

"Son-In-Law, Rose doesn’t have a family other than me. If something happens to me in the future, aunty leaves Rose to you. I hope you can protect her and stay beside her...." She can’t continue her words, worried that her tears will come out and make her future son-in-law uneasy.

Evan is surprised to hear Molly’s words. He feels happy because Molly entrusts her daughter to him, but deep down, he feels worried about why she is suddenly saying these kinds of comments?

"Aunty, I will definitely take care of her." Evan smiles to calm Molly. "And, aunty, you will live a very long time. And later, after I married Rose, you should stay with us...."

Molly stares at Evan in disbelief at what she hears.

Did this young man just ask her to stay at their house if he married Rose?

"What are you guys talking about?" Rose walked over to them and stood by Evan’s side. She didn’t hear anything they said earlier, but Evan and her mother’s last words made her curious.

"Are you done!?" Evan stands and faces Rose. He ignores her question. "What time is your appointment with Steve Adkins?"

"7 PM! At the restaurant in front...." Rose now looks at her mother. "Mom, I’m going out for a bit to meet someone. It’s okay?"

"Sure! Many nurses can help me here...just go finish your matter." Molly reassured her daughter that she would be alright.

"Aunty, I will ask my assistant to stay in the living room. You can call him if you need anything...."

Gavin, standing in the corner of the room, immediately came forward and greeted Molly politely. "Ms. Wilson, I will stay outside. Please don’t hesitate to call if you need anything."

"Hello..." Molly smiles at him. "Please accept my in-advance apology if I will trouble you later, Mr. Gavin."

Chapter 49: Meet Steve Adkins

Rose and Evan sat in the private room at the Italian restaurant waiting for Steve Adkins.

"Rose, may I ask you?"

Rose looked at Evan beside her. She nods.

"Why do you suddenly want to invest in a new startup company like Flash?" Evan actually wanted to acquire this company as well. Later, they hear a knock on the door. Evan stood up and opened the door. He saw Steve Adkins in his black suit standing before him, looking nerdy with his black-frame round glasses.

"Evan Collins!?" Steve Adkins was surprised to see the man before him.

"Did I get the wrong number?" Steve looked again at the text message he had received from Rose Wilson. Then he looked at the door number. He was confused. Why did Evan Collins open this door for him?

"Hi Steve, you’re in the right room. Please come in...." Evan opens the door wider and gives him a way to come in.

Steve Adkins was confused, but he entered the VIP room anyway, following Evan.

When he entered the VIP room, he was surprised to see a beautiful young woman standing near the seating area. She looks stylish with her white shirt, blue jeans, and an oversize navy blue blazer. She was standing facing him while a beautiful smile framed her goddess-like face. He believes the girl is Rose Wilson.

He was mesmerized but only for a second because, at the same time, a sturdy palm landed on his shoulder, making him snap out, almost bewitched by the girl’s beauty.

"Follow me, Steve! Let me introduce you to Rose Wilson...." Evan pulled Steve Adkins to the sofa area.

"Do you guys know each other?" Rose is surprised that Evan seems to know Steve. They look familiar to each other.

"Yeah, we know each other..." Evan sat beside Rose while Steve sat opposite them.

"H-how do you know him?" Rose was surprised. She never knew that Evan was close to Steve Adkins because Steve is their senior. When they enter university, Steve is already in his third year.

"Well, he is our senior... Of course, I know him so well. What’s more, his ideas for digital business make me want to be friends with...." Evan’s explanation made Rose realize that there were many things she didn’t know about Evan. Rose had been too immersed in Dustin’s world that she ignored her class friends.

"Rose is my girlfriend..." Evan quickly answered Steve’s question. Then he turns to look at Rose. He was smiling when he saw her cheek turn blush.

"Wow! Evan, you finally found your beloved woman! Congratulations...." Steve raises his hand and gives Evan a thumbs up.

Evan and Steve exchange words that make Rose blush. She was too shy to look at them. How could these two men talk about her so casually? Like she was not there with them. Gosh! She hoped she could vanish from that place.

"Rose, shall we start our business now!?"

"Sure! You’ve read my offer, right? Anything else you wanted to know?" Rose is trying to calm her beating heart. Now, she must go back to her usual calmness. Because this meeting with Steve is one of her missions, to quickly acquire an e-commerce company, Flash.

Steve Adkins looked at Evan as if asking him for permission to speak.

"Steve, don’t mind me. I just came here to accompany my girlfriend. You guys can talk about business freely...." Evan places his hand on Rose’s lap, making Rose surprised, but she tries to maintain her expression. Afraid Steve will be suspicious about their intimacy under the table.

She could only scold Evan in her heart because his touch distracts her mind now.

"Rose, I just wanted to know why you wanted to buy Flash...." Steve Adkins’s eyes looked straight into Rose. He wanted to know how serious she was about her plan.

"I know what kind of trouble you are in right now, Steve. As a person who really understands business, the risk of investing in Flash is monumental. Many investors will think twice before investing in Flash." Rose could see Steve’s shock when he heard her words.

Evan laughs in his heart, looking at his girlfriend. Rose is indeed different as she is generous and brave too. But, he can understand what this contract is about. He doesn’t want people to know that he owns many companies. He has money, so he will pay a professional to run his company while working from his home or other places he likes and enjoy his life. As most successful entrepreneurs say, let the money do the work.

"I agree!" Steve immediately signed the agreement without hesitation.

"Are you sure you don’t want to think about it first?" Rose was surprised to see Steve immediately agreed to her offer.

"As long as you don’t fire the employees and I’m still involved in the company, I will definitely agree." Steve smiles happily. He no longer needs to think about money matters because Rose is the owner. She will provide funds for the company. So, he can focus on system development and company management.

"Very well done, Steve!" Rose stands and offers him a handshake. "Now, we are partners...."

Evan also shook Steve’s hand, "Congrats, Steve... I hope Flash will be the first pioneer company to lead the digital business in our country." He sincerely congratulated him.

Then, he turned to look at his beloved woman, who now smiled so wide looking at him. He stroked her back gently with a proud feeling towards her. This is her first step into the business world. Soon they finished their meeting and dinner.

When they arrived at the VIP wardroom, Gavin was still in the living room.

"Gavin, has my mother had dinner?"
