Chapter 66: Spy

Oliver laughs as he hears her words.

"Hahaha, So you think my life was boring?" He raises his thick brow. Looked interested in her words.

"Hmm... it’s clearly written on your forehead."

Oliver still laughed when he stood up from his chair.

"Do you want to drink anything?" Rose nods.

"As usual, right?"

"Yup!" She was surprised to know Oliver still remembers her favorite drink. "Don’t forget to give my assistant anything, too..." Rose is looking at Sam, who is busy working on his cellphone. She feels proud to have a talented and hardworking assistant like Sam. She will consider increasing his salary next month.

Sam was typing seriously on his cell phone.

[Sam] Boss.... We just arrived at Lady Boss’ friend’s house.

[Sam] Lady Boss’ friend is a young man. His name is Oliver. Don’t worry, boss, he’s not handsome. He will not be able to beat your god-like face and charisma.

[Sam] Boss... now the lady boss starts talking about business with her friend. I was with them all the time. You don’t have to worry, boss.

After some time, he sends his last text, and his boss only reads it. He didn’t respond at all. Makes him worry if his boss is jealous. Or dissatisfied with what he reported.

Sam glanced at the lady boss again. She’s sitting in the garden outside. Then he saw Lady Boss’ friend walk towards him.

[Sam] Boss, their meeting hasn’t started yet...

After a while, Sam was surprised to see Oliver bring a can of cola and place it on the coffee table.

"This is for you, Sam. If you still need something else to eat or drink, feel free to take anything in the fridge..." Oliver pointed at the fridge in the kitchen area.

"Thank you, Mr. Oliver ..." Sam politely thanked him.

"Just call me Oliver. If I’m not mistaken, I’m 2 years younger than you...." Oliver smiled and walked over to Rose.

Sam was feeling hurt when he heard that.

"What did his words mean? He said I looked old?" Sam muttered while sending his unpleasant look at Oliver. Annoyed, he opened a cold cola. Just as he was about to drink it, his phone vibrated.

[Big Boss] Take their photo!

Sam is surprised to read a text message from his boss. How can he take good pictures when Lady Boss and Oliver are sitting with their backs facing him!? Sam feels helpless. He couldn’t possibly go out and take their picture, right? If he did, Lady Boss would be suspicious of him and think he was a spy.

Afraid that his boss will get angry and think he can’t do the job, he decides to take a picture of Lady Boss and Oliver’s back.

After some time, his cell phone vibrated again.

[Big Boss] Your bonus for this year will be canceled!

Sam’s body froze.

"Boss, why are you so heartless...?" Sam could only lament his fate. However, sometime later, he had an idea. Later, before leaving this building, he will ask Lady Boss to take a selfie with Oliver.

While Sam is busy making a plan to take Oliver’s photo. Rose is starting to tell Oliver about her plan to recruit him.

She wants to hire Oliver as CEO of her new company. She knew Oliver was brilliant at managing a company. He is also well known for his skill in programming and he is the best hacker.

She really needs his skills, especially in programming and hacking. Oliver became the number one hacker in the country in her previous life. He worked at the Intelligence Agency of Astington. So, before she was recruited by them, she wanted to convince him to work for her company.

"So you said... you wanted me to work for you?" Oliver raises his thick brow, confused by Rose’s offer. "Young Lady... are you kidding me, right? How could I work in a company that doesn’t exist yet? How could I leave my company?" He laughed. "Well, just for your information, I have made a huge amount of money from my King Game Center...."

Rose smiled at Oliver’s words. She knows his character so well. If he likes something, he will fight for it to achieve it. However, if what he fought for was accomplished, he would become bored. Because he doesn’t feel challenged anymore.

Just like when he was in high school, he liked computer science, but because of his parents’ pressure to be admitted to the Law faculty. After a year, he decided to pursue computer science. Finally, he took a double degree and opened a business that matched his hobby. But, a few years from now, he will be bored again and leave this company all behind. Eventually, he will become a high-level agent in the state intelligence agency and become a number one hacker in this country.

Rose took her company’s business plan from her bag for the next few years.

"Oliver, read this first. If you’ve read it and you’re still not interested... I won’t force you."

Oliver was reluctant, but he took it and read it anyway. A few minutes passed, and his eyes flashed curiosity. He looks at Rose, who looks calm beside him.

"Are you really serious with what you write here, Rose?"

"Yup!" Replied Rose nonchalantly.

Oliver thought for a moment, trying to understand what he was reading. So, Rose is now the sole owner of Flash? The first e-commerce company belonging to his role model Steve Adkins? Is she kidding? And she also owns an investment company.

He’s not very interested in Rose’s investment company. But, her Flash company is something else. A few years ago, he really wanted to be involved in it because he believed in Steve Adkins’s capability. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any money and was still learning his computer skills.

Now, his best friend offers to join the company that Steve Adkins built and asks him to help her develop it? Develop Flash? This is really tempting him.

Oliver read the remaining pages. Once again, he was surprised, but in a good way.

"So you want me to become your CEO at the Wilson group?" He was surprised to read that. "Are you drunk?" He chuckled. But seeing Rose didn’t budge made him pause for a moment.

"Fuck! A-Are you really serious?"

 

Chapter 67: I Know You Better Than You Think

"Rose, are you fucking serious?! For Real??" His mouth gasped in surprise. He stood from his seat while narrowing his eyes and looking at her.

"Can you stop cursing me? Gosh, Oliver... Why are you overreacting?" Rose laughs looking at Oliver’s expression.

Oliver cleared his throat loudly and then sat back in his chair. He thought Rose was playing a prank on him right now. But, because she looked so calm, he started to believe that she was earnest.

"Well, Rose, how could I become your CEO? You know what I’m interested in, right? I’m only interested in programming and anything related to technology. I never intended to be the CEO of a big company... let alone help you build a new company? I may ruin your company and lose your money in no time..." He rubs his chilly nape. He is imagining how troublesome working for a new company is.

Rose was speechless hearing his refusal. This man really underestimated his ability. She could only shake her head slightly.

"You better find someone experienced and more mature than me." Oliver continued. "Rose, If I make you bankrupt, our friendship will end... I can’t imagine that happening. Better yet, I refuse your offer now." However, if Rose asks him to become CEO at Flash, he will join her right away. But not for the CEO of Wilson Group.

"Gosh, Oliver! Have you forgotten your abilities? You are the best that crossed my mind who could be the CEO of the Wilson Group." She looked him in the eyes. "You know how to manage a company, you understand the law, and the most important thing is...." Rose asks Oliver to come closer to her. Then she calmly continued, "You are the number one hacker in this country. No, in this continent. I guess. So, in my opinion, you are like a God who can rule the business world in this country...."

Oliver’s mouth twitched. His face turned ashen as he heard what she said.

"How did she know I was a hacker? No one knows my other identity..." He said to himself.

Seeing Oliver’s face change, Rose could guess what he was thinking. She couldn’t help but chuckle in her heart as she said something that stirred him up.

"I know you better than you think, Oliver... We’ve been friends since we were little. You can’t hide anything from me." She lied. She had only known months before she died that Oliver was a great hacker in this country.

Rose smiled before continuing her words, "And the most important thing is, you are the right person because I trust you...." Right now, she was being frank. Only Oliver can she trust to be the CEO of the Wilson Group.

Oliver fell silent, trying to understand everything they were talking about. He read the proposal and agreement letter in his hand again. What Rose said earlier was all true. He is indeed capable of becoming Wilson Group CEO. But, right now, this is not the right time. Because he was exhausted from the King Game Center. He wanted to do other things besides managing a company.

Rose could feel Oliver was arguing with himself. She will give him more time to think. She understood that this kind of decision could not be decided quickly.

"Oliver, I will give you time to consider it...." She said softly. "How many days do you need?"

Oliver lifted his head and looked at Rose.

"Rose! I agree, but I have one condition...."

Rose feels excited when she hears Oliver agree. But she tries to calm her happiness, afraid Oliver will back up.

"Only one? Okay, what is it?"

"I agree to become your CEO. But I want to work with you, not for you. So, I will be part of your company’s shareholders. So, I figure if I buy 20% shares of the company, that should be enough to put me as a partner." He looked at her trying to read her expression. "Do you agree?" He continues as he sees her standing from her chair.

Rose stood up and held out her hand for a handshake with Oliver.

"Okay, sounds fair!" Replied Rose calmly. Deep in her heart, she was jumping with excitement. Of course, she agrees. Only a fool would refuse such a golden opportunity.

And it was a genuine coincidence from the beginning. Before the meeting, Rose was thinking of giving Wilson Group shares worth 20% to Oliver so he would be agreed to join. But this man is actually very generous if he wants to invest in her company. She felt God was blessing her. Now, she could get fresh funds to buy a gold mine in Vale city. She doesn’t have to worry again about how to get funds.

"So, where will our company open its office?" Oliver asks as he shakes hands with her.

"In the Capital City, of course!"

"CAPITAL CITY!? Wow...Bold move. Will you move there?"

"Yeah! Mmm... By the way, Oliver, what about your King Game Center?" As Rose was aware from her previous life, Oliver sold this company to others. Will he do the same in this timeline?

Oliver didn’t answer her right away. He sat back in his chair. After a moment of silence, he looked at Rose again with a thoughtful look.

"Let Wilson Group acquire King Game Center. I have a dream to make this company dominate the game industry in this country. But I will not achieve that If I work alone...."

Rose was surprised to hear his offer. She also has the same thought as him. She actually wanted to develop business in the games industry because this kind of business will sweep the whole world a few years from now. Many game entrepreneurs suddenly entered the top 50 wealthiest people in the world. She will not let this business pass from the list of companies that she will develop.

"That Fantastic idea, Oliver. This is your first task as CEO of Wilson Group. Make sure the acquisition process of your King Game Center into Wilson Group is smooth...." She smiles widely before continuing, "Finish your business here before you come with me to the Capital. Do not worry about a place to stay. I will provide you an apartment to stay in...."

"What? NO! You don’t need to provide me with a place to stay. I have enough money to buy my own."

Rose was surprised to hear that, but she said nothing. Suppose Oliver manages to get his own accommodation in the Capital. In that case, it will help her save money to buy an apartment for her three friends, who were successfully recruited earlier.

"Well, if you insist. Fine! Then how about if I give you a car?"

"I also have a car. No need to think about me. Just focus your money on growing our company..." Oliver laughed while scratching his head.

"Hahaha, alright! I will move to the Capital in a few days. Once you settle here, let me know. And... cut your hair. You look so ugly with that long hair, Oliver."

"Oh, really? Hairstyle suggestion from you?" Replied Oliver with a mocking giggle. "Thank you, but didn’t you know this kind of hairstyle like this is trending now?" Oliver glared at her, feeling sullen.

Chapter 68: What Happened?

"Gee! This model doesn’t suit you... Bring back my handsome Oliver as he was in high school...." Rose said while standing up from her chair. She didn’t want to linger at Oliver’s house. "I mean it, I want my handsome Oliver..."

Oliver could only roll his eyes hearing her words.

After finishing with her business, Rose immediately said goodbye. She wanted to go home to accompany her mother. But how surprised she was... when she tried to leave Oliver’s house, she saw Sam was busy taking selfies.

"What are you doing, Sam?" She walks inside the house with Oliver walking beside her.

"Lady Boss, the sky is so beautiful. It’s a shame not to capture this moment." An awkward smile appeared on Sam’s lips. "Lady Boss, come, let’s take a photo together..." Sam also looks at Oliver. "Oliver, come join us. Hurry! The sky is super awesome now...."

Oliver presses his lips, and a slight frown appears on his forehead as he looks at the cloudy sky.

What the hell is Rose’s assistant talking about? How could he say the sky now looks so beautiful? Is this man nearsighted?

He glanced at Rose, wanting to ask where she found this man from. But before he could ask, Rose grabbed his hand and pulled him to take a picture with them.

"Oliver, hurry, let’s take a picture...." He had no choice but to join them. "Smile, Oliver... you look like a sick person now if you twitch your mouth like that!" Rose scolds Oliver. Reluctantly, he followed Rose’s orders, posing with his best smile ever.

Damn! Now, he doubts whether working with Rose is the right thing. This lady Rose is bizarre. Why did she choose to work with a quirky man like Sam?

Sam walked behind Lady Boss and Oliver with a broad smile framing his happy face. He quickly sent the photo to his big boss, Evan.

[Sam] Boss, I told you, right? This Mr. Oliver has no chance of winning Lady Boss’ heart. He was so ugly, and his face was pale, like he had a severe disease.

[Sam] We are heading home now.

[Big Boss] Told Gavin to send your bonus in advance!

"Sam, what are you doing? Walking while looking at your phone is really dangerous. Don’t do that again in the future...." Rose was surprised when she saw Sam giggling while looking at his phone.

Sam was shocked to hear Lady Boss scold him. He immediately kept his phone in his pocket.

"L-Lady Boss, I’m just checking the traffic conditions we will pass. You know. I’m worried about traffic jams..." Sam quickly walked ahead before continuing his words. "I’m going to the car first...." He slightly bowed, and half ran to the parking lot. He almost got caught sending Big Boss their pictures. If Lady Boss finds out he is a spy, she must be fuming.

"Rose, your assistant is kinda weird. I don’t think he is suitable to become your assistant..." Oliver frowns, looking at Sam running out of the building. "Where do you find him? You better change him. I can’t trust him. Let me help you to find a suitable person for you...." Oliver said seriously.

"Huh!? Weird? He is not...." Rose glances at Oliver, feeling confused hearing Oliver’s words. How could he say Sam was weird? Sam is not a quirk. He is funny and cute. After a few days of working with Sam, she immediately liked him. "Sam is Evan’s personal assistant. Why?" Rose continued her words.

Oliver stops walking and looks at Rose.

"Rose, did you know about Evan? I mean, have you ever met his family?" Oliver’s curious-looking eyes make Rose chuckle silently in her heart.

"Did you investigate Evan’s identity?" Rose knows how capable Oliver’s hacking is. He must know Evan’s real identity, right?

"I’m not!" Oliver laughs while scratching his head. Rose could see if he was lying. "Well, It just so happens that I know a little about his background...." He continued.

"Can you tell me about him?" She is also curious to what extent Oliver knows about Evan.

"You better hear from him. Sorry, I can tell you now...." He tightly shut his mouth. He can’t tell her, or he will be in trouble. That Evan is not a simple man; he can’t mess with him...

Rose didn’t force Oliver to tell her because she already knew his family. She just wanted to test Oliver to see if he really investigated Evan’s background.

Soon, Rose leaves Oliver’s house.

"Lady Boss, do you want to get your lunch in this area or go home? The streets are a bit smooth this afternoon. We might arrive at home in about 40 minutes." Sam had already checked the route they were going to take.

"We better go home, Sam." Rose wants to have lunch with her mother. "Sam, are Flash’s company documents complete? When will it be finalized?" She asks while opening her laptop to read some documents.

"All done. We will meet Mr. Steve Adkins as we arrive at the Capital. And how about Flash’s current office? Did they stay there or move to a new office?"

"No need to move. The new office is small. And this is only temporary. I will buy a new office to accommodate the Wilson Group. Let Flash use their rented office for a while..."

"Alright, Lady Boss. I will communicate with Mr. Steve...."

After they chat about her company’s progress, Rose immerses herself in reading a file on her laptop. But not long after, their car swayed. She can feel the road they passed was very bumpy. Her laptop almost fell off her lap.

Slowly, she raised her head to look outside. She was surprised because, at this time, they were crossing a deserted road. There were no buildings around the road.

"Sam, why are we crossing this road?" She looks at Sam, feeling confused. Doesn’t Sam know his way back to the East Park District, where her home is?

"Lady boss, I’m sorry. Earlier the access to the main road was closed, there was an accident. So, I had to go this route. It’s a little bumpy, but not for too long. We’ll return on the smooth main road a few kilometers ahead." Sam said calmly.

"Alright! Please be careful and drive slowly...." She felt like throwing up. Rose closed her eyes. Try to sleep.

However, it wasn’t long. Suddenly, Rose’s body was thrown forward. Very hard, then a loud screeching sound as the brakes held the tires followed. The car seemed to bounce, and then, within seconds, the car stopped moving. It all happened so fast.

When Rose opened her eyes, the pain in her chest was unbearable. She felt her heart was going to explode from the shock.

"WHAT HAPPENED?" Her voice sounded shaking as she looked at Sam in front. Did they crash into something?

Chapter 69: Panic Attack

The sudden stopper has made the laptop on her lap fall. After successfully regaining her senses and calmness, Rose slowly lifts her head, looking at Sam.

"Lady Boss! S-Sorry..."

"What happened, Sam? Why are you suddenly stopping?" Rose touched her chest, which felt sore. But she tried to maintain her calmness, not wanting to make Sam panic. This man would overreact if he knew that her chest was hurting so much right now.

"We’re being ambushed!" Sam turned his head to look ahead. He opened his seatbelt and took a gun from the dashboard. He checks the bullets and hides the gun inside his black jacket pocket.

They’ll be safe as long as they don’t get out of the car. Even though the gangsters have firearms, they will not hurt them because this car is not just a typical car. This is an intelligent car specially designed for Evan. It also has been equipped with bulletproof glasses and plates.

At this moment, Sam has already hit the SOS button. Their location will appear in the command center. The backup team will come to rescue them in no time. Now, they just need to wait. While staying alert, he will get action if he has the opportunity.

"SAM! Why are those people blocking our car? Who are they?" Rose was shocked to see two black cars in front of them, and there were eight burly-looking and big men standing not far from the vehicle.

"They are gangsters from the White Skull!" Sam’s eyes looked sharp at the eight men. He wasn’t worried about these people because he could defeat them with just a few moves.

But what he was worried about, what if they were carrying firearms? It would trouble him when fighting with them, and also not only eight people in front that he had to beat, but there were 10 people in the back car also now ready to attack them. Now, he can’t avoid this confrontation.

"G-gangster? Why are they blocking us? Do they want to rob us?" This gang dared to rob them during the day?

She was speechless.

Why did she feel like she was in an action movie?

This is the first time she has faced a situation like this in her two lives. She didn’t know if she should be excited or scared of this experience.

"I don’t know their motive. But I know the gangs are notorious for their brutality. We can’t let our guard down, Lady Boss...."

"You’re right, Sam! Let’s hurry... move your car. Back off! Let’s just return to the road behind us..." Rose agrees with Sam that they can’t let their guard down. They should avoid this confrontation even though she knows Sam is not just a random Assistant. He is a martial arts expert. She has seen that Sam is carrying a gun. This took her entirely by surprise, knowing there was a gun in this car.

"We can’t move, Lady Boss...."

"Why? Why can’t you move?" Rose’s voice sounds shaking. She is starting to feel afraid now. "Did this expensive car suddenly break down because you braked suddenly?" Gosh! Why does this expensive car break when they really need it in the world!?

Sam almost choked at her words. "No, Lady Boss. Our car is fine. It’s just... there’s another car blocking our way."

Rose immediately looks back, and she feels like dying when she sees there are 10 men with the same posture and wearing oddly colored clothes with eight men in front. Her shoulder slumped, and her knees felt weak. Her heart started to beat faster than usual. The feeling she feels is pretty similar to when she had just finished participating in the Ironman triathlons. Rose couldn’t move her entire body as her muscles had given in.

Damn it! They are in trouble now.

How could they escape from them? She can’t help Sam to fight because she is too weak. And she’s not sure if Sam can beat these almost twenty big men. They look like professional killers, as she is usually seen in Hollywood movies.

"S-Sam! What... what should we do?" Rose’s voice trembled. "Let’s call Evan... I mean G-Gavin, let him call the police to help us. Oh, my God... what if they have guns? Are we going to die at their hands?" Rose starts to panic now. Her hand trembles as she tries to take her cell phone from her bag. She needs to talk to Evan and her mother before she dies.

"Lady Boss, no need to call. I have already sent our position. The rescue team will come soon...." Sam’s calm voice couldn’t make Rose relieved. Her mind imagined these criminals moving to attack them and kill them. She still had a lot to do in this life. She can’t die now.

She prays to God to help her. To give her another chance. But looks like God is starting to betray her or toying with her. She saw the eight people in front make a move, walking steadily toward their car.

"Lady Boss... no matter what happens, never open the door. They won’t hurt us if we stay in the car!"

Rose was confused by Sam’s words, but she was too scared to say anything right now. Her tongue suddenly felt stiffened. While holding her cellphone tightly, she was annoyed that her life has become fierce since her rebirth. A few weeks ago, she was almost raped and decided to commit suicide. Now she is experiencing something that she never imagined in her life happening to herself.

"God! How could you play with my life so extreme like this? Can you just leave me alone? I mean, I’m really grateful that you gave me a second chance. But, do I have to experience this absurd incident?" Rose complained to God in her heart as she tried to divert her fear.

Sam saw the Lady boss in the back seat through the rearview mirror. Her face looked so pale. And from the look in her eyes, he could feel that right now, she was panic-stricken. Makes him worry that her mental state will be disturbed and leave her traumatized. He had to do something to end all of this. The rescue team is still far away. It will take them about ten minutes to arrive.

 

Chapter 70: Fine! I Will Grant Your Wish

The gangsters outside had already surrounded their car. Sam couldn’t wait to knock them all out after realizing the gangsters weren’t holding any firearms. His heart was much calmer now. He will make sure all these gangsters’ are cripples in no time. He was sure this White Skull would appear in tomorrow’s news, as they were eradicated from this city.

These lowly gangsters, how could they look for trouble with them?

"Lady Boss... did you have earphones?"

Sam’s question made Rose frown. Why did Sam suddenly ask like that? She just nods.

"Please use your earphones and play your music as loud as possible. And close your eyes. Don’t open your eyes and stop the music until I come back...."

"Sam, what are you going to do?" Rose’s limb instantly tensed up, realizing Sam intended to go out and fight with all the gangsters outside? "No! Don’t you dare to go out and leave me alone here, Sam... you said there’s a rescue team that will help us. Please just stay here with me. Let’s wait...." Rose couldn’t let Sam out.

How could he possibly fight almost twenty big guys outside? Is he tired of living?

No matter how good Sam is, he’s bound to get hurt. She wouldn’t forgive herself if Sam got hurt.

"Lady Boss! Don’t worry... they are just lowly gangsters. I can cripple them in a split second...." He smiled as he wanted to make Lady Boss feel at ease. "Before, I was just worried that they were carrying firearms. However, after I took a closer look at them, they didn’t carry any guns...."

Even though these people were carrying firearms, he could still defeat them. But, he was worried because Lady Boss was with him. He can’t allow these people to touch her. He wouldn’t be able to bear the wrath of his big Boss if something happened to his woman.

Rose is utterly speechless. She can’t think straight now. She just wanted them to escape from here unharmed. Don’t want to delay anymore. She finally followed Sam’s orders. She turns on her playlist and closes her eyes tightly. She was too afraid to open her eyes, fearful that Sam would get hurt.

After seeing Lady Boss hear her music and close her eyes, Sam immediately got out of the car and locked it quickly.

"Well... Well... have you guys given up on this life and appeared in front of me asking to be sent to hell’s door?" Sam said as he took off his jacket and placed it on top of the car.

The gangsters surrounding the car seemed happy to see the driver finally dared to get out of the vehicle. However, hearing his words and the expression on his face that seemed so calm made their foreheads furrow. And some gangsters started muttering...

"Why does he seem so calm? Doesn’t he know who we are?" Gangster with black frame glasses said in his low voice to his friend beside.

"Oiii stupid driver, did you know we are from White Skull?" A bald gangster shouted.

"Shit! This stupid driver, how can he not be scared to see us?"

"I think he has lost his mind watching us surround his car...."

"BWAHAHAHA.... HAHAHAHA" Instantly, the sound of laughter boomed when they realized that this stupid driver had lost his mind to stress with this attack.

"Mister Driver!! You can go now. We don’t need you...." The gangster leader dressed in a tiger motif finally said something.

"Yeah... hurry and escape before our leader changes his mind."

Sam’s sinister-looking smile frames his calm face as he looks one by one at the gangster, who now laughs, mocking him. Then his eyes stopped on the gangster leader wearing an ugly shirt.

"Damn!! You guys really miss hell, huh? Fine... Fine... I will grant your wish... I will take out your fighting ability and feel how it feels to step on hell." As Sam finished his words, he suddenly moved his feet. In a flash, he spinning-side kicked the bald man near him right on the chest. The bald man flew a few meters, followed by the sound of his body hitting the ground, soulless. It was too fast for normal eyes to see the kick.

No one can see how the bald man got hit, but his body is already lying on the ground a few meters from them. The bald man’s body was motionless, with his face kissing the ground.

The other gangster, still grinning at the driver’s stupidity, suddenly fell silent. It’s like someone is taking their voices, no one making a sound, not even moving their limbs.

They feel tense. It turned out that this stupid driver was a martial expert.
