Ch. 1611..1620
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1611-Frank was already waiting at the entrance of Zamri Hospital by the time Helen and Gina arrived.
Seeing them, Frank nodded and did not waste his breath explaining. "Come with me."
Gina remained skeptical despite his confident expression and asked as she followed, "Are you sure Fleur would sign over her shares to Helen? We've talked about it on the way here, but we had to agree Fleur wants Helen gone at all costs. Why would she give up anything to Helen?"
"That's right, Frank. It's just…" Helen trailed off, eventually sighing after holding her breath for a while. "Unthinkable."
"It's fine."
Frank grinned as he produced two bottles of pills from his pocket, waving it at them. "Right now, Fleur needs these two bottles of pills just to stay alive. She would definitely cave."
Helen gaped. "You're using those pills… to blackmail her?"
"Why'd you have to word it so harshly?"
Frank chuckled. "No, she's going to buy these pills from me… Although it's entirely up to me to decide what I'm charging her."
Both Helen and Gina were certainly assured at that point. Still, Gina was also very curious as to what pill would drive Fleur to such desperation, that she would abandon her Lanecorp shares just to get them.
As Frank was very familiar with the layout inside Zamri Hospital, he led Helen and Gina inside, and they were soon outside Fleur's ICU ward.
One of the two nurses inside immediately frowned when she saw them. "Good afternoon, but this is the ICU. If you're not family—"
"Shush."
The other nurse, who was a little older, stopped her and whispered, "Are you crazy? Don't you recognize him?" "Huh?"
It was at her colleague's prompt that the younger Rurses flushed in realization and appeared el.ne right the "I-I'm sorry. I didn't recognize you immediately, Professor Lawrence… I was busy helping the patient take her medicine…" Gina was left spacing out by how much respect the nurses were showing Frank.
Seeing that, Frank smiled. "You don't have to be so shocked, Mom. Frank's sister is the hospital chief here." "What?! But isn't this the best hospital in Zamri…?"
While Gina was left stunned, Frank opened the door and strode inside Fleur's ward.
It was not his first time meeting Fleur either, but he was still stunned by the sight of her bedridden self now.
That certainly applied to Helen and Gina, both of whom were gaping and almost unable to recognize Fleur.
After all, the woman on the bed had an ashen-face, her body seemingly drying up as she appeared barely alive.
No one would think for a moment alive if not for the rhythmic PS dried corpse lying there was of e ventilator. to "F-Frank… Lawrence…"
Nheless, while Fleur was motionless a second ago, the sight of Frank, Helen, and Gina entering left her heaving, but she was so frail it only looked like impotent deathbed tantrum. Helen could not help walking closer to ask, "Are you alright, Madam Lang?"
"Out… Out…" Fleur wheezed, her lifeless eyes somehow conveying her spite.
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1612-After all, Helen and Frank were undoubtedly the two people Fleur did not want to see at this very moment.
However, Frank did not seem to care, walking up to pick an apple from the bedside table and biting a chunk as he chuckled. "Hehe… I know what you're waiting for, Fleur Lang."
Fleur could not say a word aside from glaring at him, as if it might kill him-it was a pity for her that she did not have such power.
Unperturbed, Frank continued, "You sent Jon Lane to get your pills, didn't you?"
Fleur's whole body flinched, clearly giving her away right then.
Frank sat on the edge of her bed in turn, smiling. "In that case, I will be frank-the pills Jon was supposed to fetch are beyond your reach… because I've killed the courier."
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Every piece of machinery began to beep all at once, indicating Fleur's agitation and rage.
"But…"
That was when Frank's tone changed, and he produced two pill bottles out of his pocket, waving them in front of Fleur. "They're right here. I can't say that taking these pills will keep you alive… but it'd at least alleviate your pain."
Fleur was staring fixedly at the bottles right then, her mouth hanging open with anticipation.
However, Frank suddenly put the bottles back in his pocket. "But considering how things are between us, do you think I'd give it to you unconditionally, out of the goodness of my heart?"
"Hngh…"
Fleur started shaking repeatedly, groaning a plea to Frank.
"Frank, please….." Helen said, finding it a bit too much.
After all, Fleur's current condition was terrible as she was now bare bones and barely had the strength to speak.
Turning to Fleur, she said, "Madam Lang, Frank will give you the ет medicine as long as you help me. Don't worry-with me here, Frank will do his best to treat you too. You've heard about his skill in medicine, haven't you?" While Frank was slightly lamenting that Helen was too soft, he nodded. "That's just it. With me here, you'd live another few years."
At Frank and Helen's assurance, Fleur did not hesitate to nod.
After all, the pain she was going through right now was unthinkable.
Her whole body was basically withering and melting, while her organs felt like they were being constantly stabbed, and she was in so much pain she could not think at all She would die willingly just to be free of this pain. In fact, she would not go as far as to ask a past enemy like Frank to save her-she would do anything just to have another Mildron Balm. While Helen was surprised that Fleur agreed to their deal so quickly, Frank smiled and shook his head.
"You'd understand if you're experiencing the pain she's suffering now."
And with those words, Frank gestured for Helen to take out the share transfer agreement and read it out in front of an impatient Fleur.
When he was finally done, Fleur used all her strength to nod and pressed a trembling finger to sign it.
With the agreement sealed, Helen was individually Lanecorp's top shareholder.
Even Yora Yimmel had no authority to demand her departure now.
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1613-"Frank."
With the document signed, Helen quickly turned toward him-Fleur's eager, miserable look actually left her feeling a pang of guilt.
They were definitely exploiting Fleur's vulnerability here, but Helen had to do it to protect Lanecorp.
And as soon as the agreement was signed, she gave Frank a pointed look, clearly gesturing for him to save Fleur.
"Alright."
Frank did not drag his feet either.
Naturally, he was not going to let her take more Mildron Balm since it was basically poison-it would keep her alive for a month at best.
He fed her an Ichor Pill instead and infused pure vigor into her body with his finger, helping her body absorb the essence of the pill. Soon, color returned to Fleur's face, and she was not grimacing in pain-in fact, she appeared very comfortable.
And with the Ichor Pill replenishing her vigor, Fleur would survive.
"T-Thank you…" Fleur thanked Helen earnestly, while showing no similar sentiment to Frank.
After all, she would not be in this state if not for Frank, and she only wanted Frank to save her from the pain and nothing else.
For his part, Frank knew that very well, and he chuckled coolly as he threw the two bottles of Mildron Balm to Fleur. "Those two bottles are the last ones available. I'd tell you not to take it, but no one would stop you if you insist. Oh, and you'd still have to pay for conspiring to murder Mark Lane." Fleur said nothing, only glaring viciously as Frank and the others left her room, and she promptly pressed the buzzer once they were gone.
"Nurse! Nurse!!!"
Two nurses rushed inside right away and were left gaping when they saw Fleur alive and kicking.
"Gosh, Professor Lawrence is amazing! There's actually a way to save someone in her condition?!"
"He really wasn't lying!"
Fleur, however, could not be bothered to listen.
Picking up one of the bottles of Mildron Balm and taking one, her cheeks flushed a furious red as she yelled, "Get me a phone right now! I need to make a call!"
After all, she finally understood what Frank and Helen were up to, what with them forcing her to sign over all her shares to Helen.
As such, to stall them, Fleur must now put her shares on ice before Helen finalized the paperwork for the transfer Even with that agreement, which had her fingerprint, they could only appeal for the transfer ten days later. And by then, it would be too late!
Unfortunately for Fleur, there was no way Frank did not think of that.
In fact, despite Fleur's demands, the two nurses traded glances before pushing Fleur back on the bed and shackling her with restraint straps.
However, they were also shaking their heads and laughing as they watched Fleur struggle endlessly on the bed.
"It's just as Professor Lawrence had said she would lose control and try to contact someone outside the hospital."
One of them even leaned in to et explain very loudly, "Hey! Do you hear us, old-timer?! Professor Lawrence told us that we must not let you leave your bed or contact anyone outside! You just have to stay here and focus on getting better!" However, taking a single Mildron Balm reinvigorated Fleur completely.
"Let me go, you wenches! Where's the hospital chief?! I have a ve complaint… You're restricting my personal freedom…"
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1614-Both nurses were left exasperated as Fleur yelled maniacally.
"Please stop already, ma'am… Oh, and our hospital chief is actually Professor Lawrence's younger sister, so you should just stay here and rest."
With those words, both nurses left with looks of sympathy, one of them sighing. "Professor Lane said that she would suffer hallucinations too… Could that be true?"
Before the other nurse could answer, Fleur started shrieking hysterically, "Let me go! I'm the second matriarch of the Lane family! Release me, or I will make you pay!"
"Oh, give it a rest already. Professor Lawrence is divine-see? This woman is hallucinating as he said."
"Shush. Just ignore her."
Fleur could hear the two nurses heading off into the distance and continued to yell even as she was tied to a bed. "Frank Lawrence!!! I'll make you pay!!!"
"Achoo!"
Frank, Helen, and Gina had just finished the paperwork for the shares transfer without a hitch and had just gotten into their car when Frank sneezed violently.
Concerned, Helen passed him tissues. "Are you alright? Did you catch a cold?"
Frank chuckled as he took the tissues. "I'm alright. I'd never catch a cold with my physique… Someone was most likely badmouthing me."
For some reason, Helen could not help laughing with him, just as he added, "Alright, I'll be sending you home now that we've kept our position in Lanecorp anchored. Now's the time to root out the source of the problem, so I'll be going to Norsedam."
"Norsedam?"
Helen frowned. "Isn't that dangerous?"
"Yeah," Gina agreed. "There's no reason to rush this-you can get some rest before heading over."
Frank suddenly felt satisfied that his effort was not wasted, for even Gina would show concern.
Still, he said, "Don't worry it's no big deal. It's you ladies who should watch out. Don't get hurt in the meantime." "Yeah. I'll be working from home for a few days." Helen beamed.
Her smile left Frank spacing out a little as she relaxed considerably without the pressure of managing Lanecorp.
After sending Helen and Gina back to Cologne Court, Frank dialed a number reluctantly as he drove to Norsedam. It was Juno Enigma.
To be honest, she was exceedingly dangerous, and Frank was trying his best to keep his distance.
Still, her information was always reliable and her resources anonymous that even Trevor Zurich could not hope to match hero That was why there were occasions Frank had to ask her for help anyway.
Naturally, he more or less understood that with each time he consulted her, he owed her another favor.
And that meant more trouble for the future, for as good things never come free-one would always vel inevitably pay eventually. Wa e "Hello, husband. I guess you've finally remembered little old me?"
The sweet voice on the other end left Frank shivering, but he said bluntly, "Let's cut the crap. I want to know the location of Corpsedale's east coast leader." Juno yawned exaggeratedly at his cold question and pouted. "You always put me in a dilemma, husband…"
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1615-Frank narrowed his eyes. "Dilemma? How so?"
"Corpsedale is one of my partners. And when it comes to betraying partners… Tut, tut….."
Frank paused and said, "Well then, I won't bother you any further."
Before he could hang up, Juno huffed, "Hey! Don't you have any patience? Just let me finish, honestly…"
"I'm very busy." Frank shrugged. "I'll listen to your troubles some other day, though I'll get someone else if you're refusing to tell me."
"Come on…"
Juno sighed softly. "Honestly, aren't you too eager to please Helen Lane? Have you considered that I might betray you if you pushed me too far, what with your cold and dismissive attitude?"
As Frank turned silent, she giggled. "Alright, alright-I was just messing with you. Do I look like I'd betray my husband? I'm hoping that you'd help me with my… ahem, revenge. Anyway, the person you want is in the Fettle Clinic at Norsedam's Lake Cove."
Frank finally spoke up at that. "Thank you, Juno Enigma."
"Hey, now, you're the husband I chose. You're being overly formal here…"
"No, I'm referring to your betrayal of your partner. I have no idea what you've planned for me, but thanks-I won't forget about this."
And with those words, Frank hung up.
Juno, dressed in full white and seated upstairs in an old tavern, watched as skies drizzled outside the window.
"Ugh…"
Her fair fingers trembled around her phone, and she breathed a heavy sigh, a far cry from her earlier jovial self.
Meanwhile, at Laneville Manor, Dan Zimmer was stepping out of the front door with his doctor bag.
He was flashing a pained smile and shook his head at the Lane family members who were escorting him, "You really don't have to send me off. I'm not skilled enough to save Mark, so you don't have to be that nice to some useless geezer such as myself… If you want Mark to recover soon, you need to ask for Frank." Gavin Lane, in the lead, bowed his head nheless. "Whatever the case may be, it's our family's honor that you would make the journey." "Haha…" Dan chuckled in embarrassment, then went to his granddaughter's Maybach and left.
"What should we do now, Dad?"
Roth Lane was standing nearby, watching his father worriedly.
Yora Yimmel had arrived in Laneville Manor this afternoon and chased Dan unceremoniously.
She then went on to proclaim herself the highest authority in the family since Mark Lane was unconscious and announced that Helen's place as family head was forfeited swn Many disagreed, but there were those who agreed too—naturally, they were all Fleur Lang's cronies in the family, who had been upset with Helen for a while.
And now, they were all seizing the opportunity to accuse Helen of failing her responsibility.
As the family was now caught in chaos, Gavin's side was the only one supporting Helen. However, they were suppressed too because they were no hardliners like Yora.
Gavin was at a loss himself, as he et was the one who recommended Helen as the head of the family. "Things would be easier if the old man's awake. But he's now in a coma, and Yora is denying him S help…"
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1616-One could even say that while Gavin was supposed to be the head of the family, he conceded it to Helen.
That was not just because of Helen's personal abilities, but because Helen had a character with her who could bring the family to new heights.
And the truth was undeniable-just months after Helen took over both as head of the family and became the chairwoman of Lanecorp, both the family and the company were improving from the inside out.
In fact, they seemed to find a motivation to do better like never before, and Mark Lane was personally approving of Helen's strength.
But despite improving like clockwork, Yora suddenly came throwing accusations, and Mark had to fall sick at this time.
And worst of all, his condition was serious, and he never regained consciousness despite retaining stable vitals.
Now, Gavin had to suspect that someone had a hand in his father's illness-to seize power.
Naturally, his chief suspect was Fleur. After all, as Mark's second wife, she was most displeased with Helen becoming the head of the family.
And now, she had gone missing, leaving Gavin feeling like he was running around in circles.
"Dad," Roth suggested. "Why don't we call Frank Lawrence as Mr. Zimmer suggested? He'd definitely save Grandfather."
Gavin sighed but shook his head. "Madam Yimmel chased Mr. Zimmer away. Do you think she'd just let Frank help? And she just announced that the Southstream Lanes are exiled once more, so Frank Lawrence has even less reason to come if Madam Yimmel doesn't shut him out in the first place."
"Then, what? Are we supposed to just let Madam Yimmel take over?!" Roth exclaimed anxiously. "Why don't we contact Helen for now and see what she has to say about Madam Yimmel? We can't just sit by and watch if Madam Yimmel is really going to exile Helen…"
Gavin was left frowning, and that was when a black car stopped outside the manor.
Jon Lane alighted and flinched when he saw his father and brother waiting outside the door. "What are you doing here?"
Ron, however, quickly asked, "We told you to get Madam Lang, didn't we? Where is she?"
"She's…"
Jon stammered, but before he could say another word, a haughty figure strode out of the door. "Heh. Welcome back, Master Lane."
"What?!"
Both Gavin and Roth were left dumbstruck as they watched Yora approach, and they turned to see that on was hanging his head, his thoughts inscrutable.
"What's wrong?"
Yora laughed coolly when she saw their surprise. "The Lane family never had the tradition of letting a woman lead the family. And since everyone's here, I'm making the announcement: Jon Lane will be the new head of the family. in "As for Helen Lane? Hah! She is now no longer a part of the family, three days, she would have to hand over her position as head of Lanecorp too." Then, turning to Roth, she smiled. "In a few days, you will go to Lanecorp Tower personally for the handover, as you take over as board chairman." "What…"
Even before Gavin and Roth could speak, Yora led Jon into the manor, leaving father and son trading glances.
"Dad… What did Jon do?!" Roth growled, frustrated-was Jon really so eager to be Yora's puppet?!
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1617-While being head of the family sounded impressive, Jon was still no more than Yora's puppet.
Roth was therefore exceedingly furious towards his younger brother's treachery, whereas their father Gavin was more thoughtful.
Frowning, he shook his head and said, "Don't point fingers just yet, Roth. You know what your brother's like he'd rather be dead than become the head of the family."
"Then…"
"Yora most likely forced him into it." Gavin breathed a heavy sigh.
"Well, what should we do?" Roth sighed, despondent that his own brother was now an enemy.
But even with their hands tied, they could not allow themselves to fall under Yora Yimmel's control either, or they should just become Yimmels instead.
Then, Gavin said, "Let's contact Frank Lawrence and see what he has to say. We will cooperate as best as we can if he offers any ideas." Gavin was aware of Frank's connections, deciding right away to side with the sole heir to the Lord of the Southern Woods.
After all, he was convinced that Yora's authority would never best Frank's, and he would rather let Frank become family head than Yora!
"Okay!"
Roth did not hesitate to whip out his phone and call Frank right then but he was left scowling after trying several times. "Dad… I can't call anyone. The cell signal has been jammed."
"What?!"
Shock showed on Gaivn's face-Yora was going that far?!
It seemed that she was really bent on devouring the entire Lane family!
That was when a Yimmel family retainer came over, holding out a hand and gesturing at the manor hall. "Mr. Lane, Mr. Lane. Madam Yimmel is speaking to the family soon-please proceed inside."
Roth snorted. "Hmph. I need to step outside for a moment-there's something I need to do."
However, the Yimmel retainer stepped in his way, impassive. "Your presence is needed."
"Fuck!"
Roth cursed, pointing at the Yimmel ne retainer as he snapped, "This is Laneville Manor, not the Yimmels' house! Are you restricting my personal freedom?!" "It's Madam Yimmel's orders, Mr. Lane," the Yimmel retainer said, pausing as his eyes flashed coldly. "We are allowed to enforce discipline if anyone refuses. I'd suggest you go now for your safety." "What…"
Roth was bristling-Yora was not even bothered to disguise her coup!
"Calm down!"
Gavin proved more seasoned than his son, grabbing the latter by the arm to stop him from anything rash.
Casting an impassive look at the Yimmel retainer, he said calmly, "This is Laneville Manor. I'm sure Madam Yimmel already has an explanation for her actions. Let's go With that, he pulled a seething Roth with him back into the Manor.
And behind him, the Yimmel retainer locked up the gates of Laneville Manor.
It was clear that every member of the Lane family was now under house arrest, and none were allowed in or out!
In the evening, Frank had just arrived at Norsedam, unaware of Gavin's predicament.
He was not dragging his feet, however, and headed straight to the address Juno Enigma gave him.
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1618-Judging from its name alone, Fettle Clinic was an unassuming place.
As such, Frank was not surprised to find the clinic in a remote corner of the suburbs, just past the fringes of Lake Cove.
It was evening, but every door and window of the clinic was shut, as if closed for businesses.
Still, Frank's sharp hearing could pick up the voices inside.
He was alone, and it was a familiar face at that it was Hardy Xinder!
Narrowing his eyes, Frank leapt agilely up to the second floor and slipped inside from a venting window.
Hardy, whose hair was now completely white, was sitting by a desk and asking into the antique rotary phone, "Hey, what's going on here? You're saying that there have been problems in Zamri, but what am I doing here?"
"What? A trap? What the hell are you talking about?!"
Hardy sounded clearly impatient and was even holding the phone as he paced around. "Damn it, Yaga-so what are you playing at?! Shouldn't the Lane family be going after Frank Lawrence's head by now?! And with your relatives in Bralog getting on his case too, he's not going to get away, is he?!"
"Wait, he's coming? Are you kidding me?!"
Even as Hardy snapped furiously over the phone, he felt a chill beneath his neck.
He looked down and, before he knew it, found a knife held there, pressed against his neck.
Too petrified to speak or turn to look who it was, he stammered as he said the name on his mind. "F-Frank Lawrence…?"
"You knew I'd be here?"
Frank had picked up one of the knives on the table to restrain Hardy, but his heart skipped a beat when Hardy guessed that it was him. "It really is you!"
Hardy's face turned pale he was skeptical about Baba Yaga's words earlier, but he certainly believed her now!
Frank was truly omnipotent, finding him in a place like this!
Nheless, Frank demanded, "Talk! Where's Baba Yaga, your accomplice?!"
Hardy was left frustrated too, and he snapped back, "What a el coincidence-I don't know, because I'm looking for her too! That hag was the one who called me here, but she's nowhere to be seen!" "Wait, this is bad…"
Frank immediately felt a pang of danger.
"Kikiki… Hello, Frank Lawrence."
Even as Frank's thoughts raced, a bizarre laughter rang over Hardy's phone. "I knew you'd make it as soon as lost contact with Borc.
Met don't know how you found out who I |
am, but I was right being careful.
SW And now, you've fallen for my trap!" "What-"
Even before Frank realized it, he heard a soft pop behind him, and green gas started ejecting out of a broken bottle.
And while Frank was distracted, Hardy pushed him aside and ran straight for the exit… where the green gas was. "Fuck! You used me as bait, Yaga!"
Hardy had come to a realization right then-Baba Yaga had called him here to lure Frank into this place! "Wait!"
Frank could not stop Hardy in time and watched as he ran straight into the green gas… and screamed deafeningly.
Only Hardy's palm reached the green gas at sizzle like boiling water, and chunks 2 lik put his flesh began t began to peel off. pungent smoke filled the room as Hardy's fingers rotted off, leaving bare, charred bones.
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1619-"What? Argh!!!"
It was too late by the time Hardy realized what had happened.
The emerald gas had reached his cheek just then, and his skin started to peel off as well, leaving bare scarlet tissue.
They soon melted off as well, leaving only charred bones.
"H-Help me…"
Hardy wanted to run, but his legs were caught in the green gas.
He dropped to the floor with an audible thud, and watched as his legs melted into black bones as well.
All he could do was scream, and in his desperation, he even reached out his only good hand toward Frank, yelling and begging, "Please, I don't wanna die! Help me, help me!!!"
However, Frank could not do anything and watched as half of Hardy's face melted off.
It was such an eerie sight that he felt the creeps, being as knowledgeable as he was.
At the same time, he started backward to avoid the green gas.
And in under ten seconds, Hardy was completely consumed by the green gas and reduced to charred bones scattered all over the floor.
However, Frank had no place to run either, as this was clearly Baba Yaga's trap.
Forget that the exit that was already sealed-somehow, the interior of the clinic was shrinking visibly as well.
"Shit, I've been had!"
Frank growled through his teeth-the Corpsedale members were really cunning, and he could not see through the emerald gas they used either. And the potency was already frightening!
Even as the phone dropped in the middle of the green gas, Baba Yaga's gleeful laughter could still be heard. "Kikiki… Just give up already, Frank Dawrence! My rotting gas would melt through even your steel-like body!" Open up!"
Frank abruptly turned, charging himself with pure vigor and abruptly launching his palm on the wall behind himself, intent on breaking a hole on it. However, the wall merely rumbled after Frank's hit. No crack appeared, let alone a hole…
"What?!"
How durable were these walls?!
At Frank's current level, he could shatter boulders with his bare fists. But now, his palm could not even open a hole in this little clinic?!
"Kikiki!!! Give up and accept your fate, Frank Lawrence! I personally renovated this building to make it withstand bomb blasts, so you can forget digging a hole to escape!" The laughter over the phone left Frank annoyed, and he struck the wall endlessly in panic as he could see the green gas closing in.
However, the wall simply refused to crack, even though the whole building seemed to rumble under Frank's punches.
"Hahaha…"
Baba Yaga's laughter turned even shriller, and as Frank was about to be consumed by the green gas, he growled defiantly, "Curses… To think that would fall in such a place!" Nheless, the interior of the clinic gradually turned silent, and time passed.
When night arrived and the skies were veiled by thin clouds, an agile figure dashed toward the clinic from a distance.
As the clouds parted, the moon's glow bared the ancient face of a woman, her diminutive frame standing in a distance as she stared at the front doors.
Her eyes were sharp, as if intent on seeing inside the clinic…
The Girlboss Begs For Remarriage Chapter 1620-"It's been a while… Surely he'd be withered down to bones no matter how strong he is? Not even a peak Ascendant rank individual could withstand the rotting gas I've concocted from a thousand decomposing bodies."
Naturally, the diminutive figure was none other than Baba Yaga.
Even as she mused to herself, her expression was careful as she circled the clinic repeatedly.
Eventually, she breathed a sigh of relief when she heard nothing.
"I guess he's really done." She laughed coolly. "They all say that Frank's power is unmatched, but he fell just like the rest before my poison! Guess I should report this to Hundred Bane Sect… Hmph! It seems like Titus Lionheart owes us a favor now."
"That reminds me… I should search the body for a spiritron vein, since he might carry it with him…" Letting down her guard just then, she opened the doors of the clinic, ready to search Frank's corpse. However, an arm suddenly shot out from the clinic amid the silent night, seizing Baba Yaga by the neck!
"Oof!!! How… is that possible?!"
Baba Yaga's eyes widened at the sight of that arm which remained unscathed, herself caught in speechless shock and disbelief.
Bang!
A second hand reached out after the first, tearing through the door easily like it was candy wrapper.
Then, the dark figure behind lifted the door into the air with his bare hand and threw it into the distance!
Under the bright moon glow, he looked up, baring his white teeth as he grinned. "You really returned, hag. I've been waiting for a while, too!"
"How… how… How is that possible?! My poison… didn't work?!"
Baba Yaga struggled as hard as she stared at Frank as if he were a ghost.
He had entered the clinic early in the evening, and it was now past midnight-about seven hours later.
A normal person would die if the gas so much as touched them, but Frank stayed in it for up to seven hours and remained fine?!
Baba Yaga was utterly confused, just as she began to doubt herself, wondering if her poison was the issue.
However, Hardy Xinder's death was proof that the poison worked, and that only left one possibility…
Frank Lawrence was… Transcendent rank?!
It was universally known that the physical body changed fundamentally at Transcendent rank, and poison was pointless as they surpassed the limits of physical existence. Those who reached beyond were no longer humans and would rise to stand among the strongest individuals of Draconia.
That being said, Frank did not rely on ver his physique to survive that long in that poisonous gas, but his knowledge in Draconian traditional medicine instead. Frank had almost instantly dissected the composition of the poisonous gas and swiftly refined several antidote pills with whatever materials he had. With Frank's pure vigor and the pills, he survived the eerie poison for hours.
Moreover, when he dissected the gas, he also found out something very important: the poison grew more potent after corroding through skin and flesh.
The fact that it grew meant it was alive, and Baba Yaga would certainly not leave something so precious to waste.
Instead she was definitely planning to return and retrieve the gas.
That was why Frank just had to wait here, as she would most certainly return.
