Chapter 96: Chapter 96 - Robin’s request from Sabrina

Robin never knew that he would be caught up in a situation whereby he would be forced to confess to Sabrina, but right now, he did not want her to feel annoyed by his presence and the reason why he would not be able to give her what she wanted.

"Sabrina, I never intended to disrespect you, but I was drunk when I slept with Zayla."

Sabrina let out a humorless chuckle and retorted, "But you were not drunk before sleeping with other women."

With Sabrina questioning his sexual life like that, Robin could not help being ashamed. He also understood that his sexual life in the past hurt her a lot, and she had buried them all inside her heart. Somehow, he felt good that she was letting them all out.

"Yes. But if I was in my right mind, I would have used a condom. Zayla is carrying my child, so I can’t just cut her off. You are also carrying my child, so you can’t be away from me."

Subtly, he was not letting any of them go. Sabrina shook her head as her words suddenly felt heavy in her mouth.

"No, like, what are you saying?" She asked, trying to understand his stand better before making a decision.

Robin looked her in the eyes and said seriously,

"Sabrina, you have to move in with me."

"Never!" Sabrina yelled. Then she went on to explain, "The same house you share with Zayla? Robin, it seems that you have no respect for me."

Robin felt guilty. If not for the jealousy he felt when he saw Sabrina with Devin before knowing he was her brother and now Martin, he would not have understood what she was going through, but now that he did, he was ready to meet her halfway.

"So, what do you suggest? Because I want to be a part of my child’s life. I want to be there every step of the way for him or her."

Since he was not being all domineering anymore, Sabrina thought of a way to make it work because, indeed, it would be impossible to kick Robin completely out of her life.

"The best I can do is to allow you to visit after the child is born."

Robin laughed, but it was not a happy one. When he stopped laughing, he looked her in the eyes and said seriously,

"It’s not enough. If you are carrying my child, then you are equally my responsibility."

"I have my family, and I don’t need you to take care of me," Sabrina stated her stand. She assumed that he had forgotten about her family, for which reason he asked her to move in with him, but how would he even take care of her? Will he cook? Clean? Sabrina could not imagine the care he kept talking about.

"I am the father of the child you are carrying, so yes, I have to take care of you, whether you like it or not," Robin said seriously.

Sabrina was at a loss. She should have left this city after the divorce, and now she regrets staying back and thinking he won’t find out.

"So, what are you gonna do? Because I am not moving in with you."

Seeing her seriousness, Robin tried to find a way to be a part of her life. "You know very well, Sabrina, that if I had known that you were pregnant, I would not have agreed to divorce you."

"That is why I hid it from you," she confessed. Then she added, "The same day I found out was the day you brought Zayla, so please don’t blame me."

Since they were both at fault, Robin could not be angry with her. He arrived at a decision, wondering how she was going to take it.

"Now this is my term. If you are not going to move in with me, then I will have to see you every morning, afternoon, and evening."

Sabrina laughed, feeling like this was the most absurd thing she ever heard from a man like Robin.

"Is that how often you see Zayla?"

Robin did not like the way she kept bringing Zayla into everything, figuring that she wanted to make him upset.

"Forget about Zayla, this is between me and you."

"I don’t want to see you three times a day. I can endure one," Sabrina retorted.

When she was trying to avoid seeing him once every two weeks, things had even worsened with her having to deal with him in her life every day.

Robin did not think that seeing her once a day was enough and said seriously, "Then we leave it at morning and evening. I have to see that you are fine before I go to bed and also in the morning before I arrive at the office."

Sabrina was feeling miserable. Her only mistake was loving Robin and agreeing to marry him when she knew that he did not love her. Now she felt trapped because even after a divorce, she still could not be away from him.

m

"Do I have a choice in this matter?"

"Sorry, you don’t," Robin stated calmly. This was his chance to watch her closely, so that that crazy Mara would not hurt her.

He also had the chance to kick Martin out of Sabrina’s life which was all good for him.

Sabrina could not fight it anymore. She had lost her strength and succumbed, "Fine. You can go."

Unfortunately for her, Robin had other plans. "You came to the hospital so I will stay and hear what is wrong with you." He did not wait for her response before calling the doctor.

"What is wrong with her?" He asked the doctor who had returned with the lab results.

"I just got the test result. It’s an infection so we have to admit her for three days to administer the IVs. Due to her condition, oral medication will not be safe," the doctor explained.

Sabrina was about to call Devin when Robin said, "Alright. Do what you must. I will stay with her."

Chapter 97: Chapter 97 – Robin’s possessiveness of his ex-wife

Sabrina’s jaw dropped, almost hitting the ground. For Robin to stay in the hospital with her? She imagined what had come over him. At the same time, she did not want him to do so.

"What? And who takes care of Zayla? Don’t forget you live together," Sabrina pointed out, trying to get him to change his mind, but he only shrugged,

"You don’t care about Zayla. You just want me gone."

Sabrina did not feel guilty about the way he saw through her. She did not care and retorted in annoyance,

"I’m glad you can read between the lines."

Robin smiled and surprised her with his next words, "I will spend half the night here and come back in the morning." He did not mean it but only said it to give her false expectations.

However, even the half-night he talked about was enough to render Sabrina speechless. She could also sense trouble, especially with Zayla finding out that Robin has been here in the hospital with her.

"I still have to speak with Devin. Perhaps Lizzy would have to go and help my dad in the office since I would not be there."

Sabrina was only trying to buy time to call Devin to come since she hated Robin’s presence, but Robin responded,

"All you need is your laptop. You can work from the hospital." Sabrina frowned deeply from his sudden concern as he added, "I will call Devin but let’s move to the ward first.

After moving Sabrina to the VIP ward, Devin walked in with Martin, but Robin flared up and said to Martin,

"Mr. Dane, Sabrina is carrying my child, so throughout the time of her pregnancy, I don’t want to see you around her if it’s not business related. After she delivers the child, she would have to give me full custody if she wants you in her life."

Sabrina was so upset. It was as if they were still married, with Robin trying to have control of her social life. She was about to object when Martin frowned deeply, boiling from rage, and responded,

"Robin..."

"It’s Mr. Jewel, Mr. Dane. We are not friends," Robin cut him off and spoke. Martin was sweating badly.

With every Information Robin had on Mara, he was already afraid of upsetting him, but after waiting for such a long time for Sabrina, Martin could not accept it.

"Mr. Jewel, Sabrina is my girlfriend, and I have every right to be here," Martin retorted defiantly.

Robin scoffed and glared at Martin,

"Well, she is carrying my child, so I will be in her life more times than you can imagine. Unless you want me to explain the details of the reason why you are not welcome here," Robin threatened subtly.

He was just being patient to know Mara’s exact location before striking hard, but till then, he would use all his influence to kick Martin out of Sabrina’s life.

At the threat, Martin turned mute. He already foresaw that Robin did not believe the fake news about Mara’s death, and that meant he was still on the lookout for her. No matter how troublesome Mara was, Martin loved his sister and would protect her.

Turning to Sabrina, who had paled from how neither her brother nor Martin could stand up to Robin, Martin said to her, "It’s alright, Sabrina. I will see you later."

Before Martin reached the door, Sabrina said, "Robin, I want him to stay."

Robin was upset at the request but only blamed himself for it. He looked at Sabrina and said, "If it’s work-related, then fine, but aside from that, no. Unless you want me to announce to the world that you are carrying my child."

Finding another means to blackmail Sabrina as well, she closed her eyes and gritted her teeth since she did not want the world to know that she was carrying her ex-husband’s child.

In contrast, Devin was boiling with rage and could not take it anymore. "Robin, you are going too far," he snarled.

Robin glared at him and said softly, "One day, you will thank me for this."

Martin understood what Robin meant and wished that day would never come but Devin and Sabrina didn’t. Devin walked Martin to the door and apologized,

"I’m so sorry for this."

Martin shook his head, slightly afraid of what Devin would think of him if he found out that Mara was his sister. It might end their decades of friendship. Whereas, he still felt helpless in the situation. "It’s not your fault. Robin has always been like that."

"I will talk to you tomorrow," Devin said to him before closing the door. He could not believe that after all their plans to keep Robin away from Sabrina, he still found his way into her life. At least Sabrina hated Robin now so Devin did not worry so much.

After Martin left, Devin called his dad, Lizzy and Matilda on the phone to explain the situation. They were worried and since his dad was already on his way home with Lizzy, he did a U-turn to the hospital.

Whereas Devin went to the penthouse to bring Matilda. Whiles he was away, Robin stepped out of the ward when the doctor was attending to Sabrina and called Daniel on the phone.

"Robin, is everything alright?" Daniel asked worriedly. Knowing how busy their days have been, no one called the other if it was not serious.

"No. She is on admission," Robin stated calmly. Daniel felt it might be serious and was greatly disturbed,

"Sorry. So, are you home already?" He asked.

"No. I plan to sleep over at the hospital. Can you get me some clothes from my penthouse?" Robin asked pleadingly, knowing that Daniel was very busy.

"And what about Zayla?" Daniel asked. He did not want to see Zayla, which was known to Robin that Daniel and Zayla never clicked.

"That is another reason why I want you to go there. Please take care of her for me," Robin requested but Daniel was not having it. To spend the night at Robin’s penthouse with Zayla? That sounded like torture to Daniel.

"I will rather take care of Sabrina while you go to Zayla," Daniel suggested.

Robin hated the idea. He did not want to miss out on the calmness he felt around Sabrina. Who knew when he would get the opportunity again when Sabrina was discharged?

"Daniel, please help me out. I know you don’t like Zayla but please do this for me."

Daniel sighed frustratedly at the end of the line, "Fine. I will let you know how it goes."

Robin returned to the ward the same time the doctor said, "I have administered the antibiotics and she’s drowsy. The next one will be in twelve hours."

Robin nodded his head and when the doctor left, he adjusted the covers on Sabrina. She opened her eyes drowsily. "You don’t have to stay Robin, please go to Zayla."

Robin smiled bitterly and responded, "why do I feel like you are avoiding my presence? Should I say that you are still in love with me?"

Chapter 98: Chapter 98 – Robin faces Cobby after many years.

Robin seemed to know his wife better than she thought. To avoid the question he asked, she soon fell asleep. Robin watched her sleeping form, and so many thoughts occupied his mind about how he could have handled things differently that night.

If he had been a little patient, Sabrina would have still been his wife. He was not admitting to himself that he did the wrong thing because he was going to have two children, but he still felt like he had lost something precious.

It was not long before Lizzy walked into the ward with her father, Cobby.

"She’s sleeping," Robin said to Lizzy, who was almost going to wake Sabrina. Her hand froze in the air as Cobby said to Robin,

"Son, we have to talk."

When Robin’s father was alive, Cobby always referred to Robin as a son, but since his best friend died, he never got to see Robin again. However, for the sake of the love he felt towards his late best friend, he could not hate Robin the way he wanted to.

Robin was a little uneasy because of how he had ignored Sabrina’s father all these years when he had been his father’s best friend. He looked at Sabrina one more time before going out to see Cobby. The man was straightforward, saying seriously,

"I never thought I’d see you close to my daughter again, and Devin told me everything you did."

Robin felt ashamed and lowered his head, remembering the way he had treated Sabrina over the years. The only thing she was good for was food and sex. He never tried to make her better, enhance her college skills, or anything.

He turned a first-class business administration graduate into a housewife. He also felt ashamed of himself that Sabrina was far better after a divorce than when they were married. It was for this reason he did not want her to lose her glow anymore.

It was the reason why he insisted on Sabrina working from the hospital. It would enhance her skills better and help her to overcome every challenge in the business world.

"I’m sorry, sir, but I have every right to be in the life of the mother of my child," he responded with remorse. Cobby nodded his head and said,

"I agree, but can’t you wait until the child is born?" He asked seriously, indirectly telling Robin that he was not needed in Sabrina’s life at the moment.

Robin was embittered but accepted it as the price to pay for all that he did to her.

"I’m sorry, but you know that bonding moments begin from the womb," Robin stated his reason for not backing down. It was the reason why he did not immediately try to get close to Sabrina when he missed her.

He was afraid that her father would cut him off from her daughter for good. If that happened, he would have no reason to refuse. However, now that he confirmed her pregnancy to be his, he had every right, and nobody could stop him.

"Your presence causes her pain," Cobby said with a painful expression, remembering how Sabrina shed tears in his office that day.

Robin felt worse, and though he knew that it was too late to have her back, and even if he tried, it wouldn’t work because of Zayla, he was determined to make it up to her in every way.

"I know."

"And what are you doing about it?" Cobby asked him since he accepted the accusation. Robin looked him in the eyes and pledged from his heart,

"I will treat her better. Take it as a child who went astray."

Cobby shook his head. Taking Robin as a child who went astray? He had to think about that later since there was a bigger problem at hand.

"Then what about your other woman?"

Robin could not leave a woman who was carrying his child and one who also saved his life in times past. Regardless, he could not tell Cobby directly and said,

"It’s complicated, sir. I promise that I will give Sabrina the attention she deserves and will not allow any harm to come to her."

Cobby knew that Sabrina’s only pain was Zayla, for which reason he did not like Robin being in his daughter’s life. His presence would constantly remind Sabrina of Zayla.

"I don’t want Zayla close to her, and I don’t know what you are going to do about that."

"I will keep Zayla away from her, I promise. But Zayla should not be the one she should be afraid of. Mara is more harmful," Robin blurted out, and Cobby’s eyes were covered in shock.

All along, he felt like he was insane since he was the only one who believed that Mara was alive. Devin was not helping on that front because of Martin, but for Robin to mention it meant there was more.

"How did you know about Mara?"

Robin was happy to have finally gotten his attention and quickly explained, "I have my links, sir, and that news about her death is not true. I just want Martin away from Sabrina because his sister is obsessed with him. The closer he gets to Sabrina, the more danger she faces."

Cobby already knew that, and if that was Robin’s reason for forcing himself into Sabrina’s life again, Cobby could not stop it.

Devin would not be able to fight if he did not believe it, and Sabrina was already pregnant and fragile. She needs a man who understands the dangers to be by her. He said seriously.

"Since you have promised to protect her from Mara, then you have my support, but I also want Mara dead," Cobby demanded.

He was too old, and his business was already weighing on him. Until Sabrina gave birth and took a few years to recover, she would not be able to handle everything fully.

Also, Cobby did not have the resources to search for Mara. It could drown his company.

Robin smiled, glad to have found common ground and somebody else from the James family who knew about Mara and supported him.

He was glad to have done all those investigations before time. The call came in handy.

"I’m working on it, sir."

Cobby smiled a little and said, "I won’t say thank you because you owe Sabrina more than that."

Chapter 99: Chapter 99 – Robin kissed Sabrina?

Robin was very happy to win Cobby’s trust after all he did to Sabrina. He agreed that he did not deserve any appreciation from Cobby because he was doing it for Sabrina.

"And I am not asking for appreciation. If anything, I should be the one apologizing for how I alienated her from her family. For not caring about her before," Robin said with remorse, but Cobby was interested in the reason for his sudden change.

He wondered if it was just because of the unborn child or if Sabrina’s love for him paid off. From Robin’s countenance and the light in his eyes every time he mentioned Sabrina, Cobby could tell that his cells were not dead.

It could be that Robin only realized that he felt something for Sabrina after the divorce. If that was the case, then Cobby felt that Sabrina’s loving Robin all these years was not in vain.

At least she was able to dig a hole in his heart that only she could fill.

"And what changed your mind now?" Cobby asked seriously. Robin had just won Cobby’s trust again after a long time and did not want to ruin it with any lie. He could deny it when with Daniel but not with an experienced man like Cobby.

"I don’t know, but sometimes, you don’t know what you have until you lose it."

Cobby understood that Robin regretted his actions, and that was enough for him. Patting Robin on the shoulder, he said something that brought Robin to tears,

"I wish your father was alive to witness this."

Robin was stubborn when his father was alive. He never gave the man joy but pain because of his womanizing lifestyle.

Now, he wished there was a way he could make it up to his father and apologize for his mistakes.

No one made him miss his father the way Cobby did right now. Before he uttered a word of appreciation, Cobby had already walked away.

He felt saddened because of how Robin’s father had high hopes for Robin and Sabrina but did not get the chance to see his son showing Sabrina any form of kindness.

By the time Robin and Cobby went back, Matilda had arrived with Devin, but she and Robin pretended to not have met before and only exchanged greetings.

Now that Matilda was there, Devin found the perfect opportunity to kick Robin out, but sadly, Robin was still as stubborn as hell.

"Robin, Matilda is Sabrina’s best friend, and she is here to take care of her. You can go now."

When he looked at Matilda, she shook her head slightly in a way Devin did not notice. She did not want Robin away from Sabrina. Robin shifted his gaze to Devin and asked sarcastically,

"Matilda might be her best friend, but is she the father of the child she’s carrying?"

Devin’s eyes squinted. He hated that Robin seemed to have an answer to every question. First, he got rid of Martin like he was nothing, and now, he still won’t leave even when Matilda was there to take care of Sabrina.

She delayed because she won’t leave the house without preparing a hot meal for Sabrina and getting her comfortable clothes as well. It was the mark of a good wife, which made Devin’s heart warm up to her even more.

However, he could not stand Robin’s presence and wanted him out of his sister’s life for good. Glaring coldly at Robin, he said,

"I won’t pretend that I like you."

Robin shrugged. At least Matilda trusted him, and now, even Cobby. Devin was just blind, and he was not going to waste his time on the likes of him.

"I don’t care. For as long as she is carrying my child, I will see her as often as I can."

"Watching you act all possessive of my sister; someone would be deceived to think that you care. But I know that the only reason you are here is because of the child in her womb, and that makes you the worst person alive," Devin declared coldly, wishing that Robin would counter it.

Robin wanted to. He wanted to announce that he had made a mistake, but he also felt that Devin would not believe him no matter what since he was upset about the fact that Robin had sent Martin away.

At that, Robin stared at him with sadness but held his tongue.

Unfortunately, his inability to defend himself from the accusation was a confirmation to Devin that he was right in his judgment and Robin did not deserve to be close to his sister. Sabrina deserved better. She had the right to be happy and be with a man who would treat her like the good woman she was.

He turned his attention to Lizzy, who sat on a chair next to her dad. Cobby did not interfere in Devin and Robin’s cold war since he knew that everything Devin was doing was because of Martin.

"Lizzy, will you help Dad tomorrow?" Devin asked since Sabrina would not be able to go to work, and Lizzy was conversant about the job.

Lizzy felt sorry because she was overwhelmed with designs. Due to the Mayor’s birthday party, she received a lot of requests for Matilda’s reunion party as well, and she was also designing a surprise dress for both Matilda and Sabrina.

"Devin, our deadline for the designs is short," she said apologetically. She never refused Devin anything and felt saddened to do so now.

Robin stared at Devin and shook his head. It was good to pamper Sabrina, but since she jumped into the world of business, it should not be taken from her because of a little sickness.

"Get Sabrina her laptop. She won’t be sleeping all day. Due to her condition, she has to learn to work remotely because these things can happen at any time."

Devin did not agree or disagree, but neither did he say anymore. Robin was right, but Devin was a little ashamed of the fact that Robin seemed to know Sabrina better than him.

Lizzy and Cobby were about to leave when Robin said,

"Matilda, you should leave too. Come back early in the morning. I will be in the office by then."

He intentionally said it in front of Cobby, so he wouldn’t have to get into another word drama with Devin.

Matilda looked at Devin, and when he did not refuse, she agreed. Before Devin left, he said to Robin,

"If anything happens to my sister, you are the cause."

Robin returned his cold look and responded, "Nothing will happen to her while I am here."

As they left, Robin looked at his ex-wife longingly while she slept like a baby. The next moment, his lips pressed against her forehead.

Chapter 100: Chapter 100 – Sabrina wants Robin to prepare her salad

Robin’s finger traced her smooth face, and he admitted that Sabrina was a very beautiful woman, except that he was noticing it too late.

Robin had lost count of the women he had been with, but he always felt that Sabrina was different and the prettiest of them all.

Then again, he blamed himself for hurting her so much because of the arranged marriage. He wanted to push her away, and when it finally happened, all he felt was regret and emptiness.

It was only when he slept right here beside her that he did not dream about her like other times.

Her mark was registered in his soul, and he knew there was no way he would let any other man have her. He accepted that he could not have her back, but he wasn’t going to let her move on. They would take care of their child together.

Robin went out to get some snacks since he was not sure that Sabrina would be able to eat the

food Matilda had brought.

It was already late, so it would not even be healthy for her to eat a full meal. A snack was the best option at the moment.

He had merely finished buying the snacks when his phone rang. Seeing Zayla’s name on the caller ID, he was a little disturbed and asked,

"Zayla, are you alright?"

"Yes, but Daniel is here, and he said that you are not coming home. What is the problem?"

Zayla was used to Robin getting home late sometimes, but for the first time, Robin sent a man to come and live with her. He also did not call her himself.

The chef usually left in the evenings to come in the morning, while the cleaners would come in the morning. After the workers left, Zayla would be the only one at home, but she was never bored and enjoyed the freedom to hatch her evil plans.

She just did not like Daniel’s presence, just as Daniel hated hers. Robin explained,

"It’s an emergency, but it would only take three days. Let’s say that one day is gone, so just two days more."

That is, Robin did not intend to go home until Sabrina was discharged from the hospital. Zayla was used to Robin’s occasional travels, but he always gave her details.

This was the first time he was being flat in his discussion with her and even allowing his best friend to sleep over at the penthouse to take care of Zayla.

"Robin, I don’t like Daniel. Can I go to my dad?"

"Yes, you can but don’t forget that your father no longer owns his house. It’s all part of the items to be auctioned to recover part of the money he owes," Robin reminded her.

He was not going to waste his money paying for a foolish debt. Getting her father out of police custody was the best he could do.

"But he is with Mum, so I will stay there for a few days," Zayla suggested.

She would prefer to be in the penthouse alone, but as long as Daniel was there, it felt like she was being watched, and the fact that Daniel was a hacker, Zayla was afraid.

"Make sure you go with the driver," Robin instructed for her safety’s sake. Zayla was happy and responded,

"Alright, thank you."

After the chat on the phone, Robin returned with the snacks and sat back on the chair while he leaned his head against Sabrina’s bed and dozed off.

He was awakened a few times when the nurses came to change the IV.

Sabrina woke up after midnight. Everywhere was dark, but she felt a presence beside her bed.

"Devin?"

Since Robin said he was going to stay for just half the night, she guessed that the only person who would be by her side was Devin, but how wrong she was.

Robin woke up instantly and responded, "Sabrina, do you need anything? How are you feeling?"

His voice was husky from sleep, but the coating of care around it got Sabrina irritated. How dare he act all loving towards her when she was trying her very best to get him out of her life?

Sabrina’s hands balled into fists while she responded,

"You said you were going to spend half the night."

Robin did not see a reason to lie anymore since it was just the two of them. "I only said it for you to stop talking. Do you need anything?"

"Where is Devin?" Sabrina asked instead of stating her demand. Robin responded casually and turned on the light. He saw how she had paled, which he attributed to her illness.

"I sent him away. Your father, Lizzy, and your best friend were here, but I told them I could take care of you," he explained.

Sabrina felt helpless, wondering how Robin managed to get everyone away from her.

"Water."

Robin went to pick up the water and fed her. She did not refuse. Since he wanted to take care of her, Sabrina felt it would be good to make him pay for all the years he neglected her.

"How are you feeling?" Robin asked softly. She was surprised to be hearing that only after the divorce. Taking a deep breath, she responded,

"I no longer feel the pain. Tell the doctor to discharge me." She wanted to be away from him. She would be a fool to fall for his so-called kindness.

"You have to continue with the antibiotics for two more days," Robin reminded her. Sabrina bit her lips so hard it drew blood. She just did not want him in her space.

"Can’t you leave me alone? It’s over between us."

Robin smiled at her. He was smitten by his ex-wife the more she rejected him. "If it’s over, then my presence should not bother you. You can just ignore me or pretend that I’m not here."

Sabrina sensed the complacency in his tone, which to her, only meant that he felt she was still in love with him. Perhaps if she turned him into an errand boy, he would leave.

"Okay, then I’m hungry."

"What would you like to eat?" Robin asked excitedly, not expecting the response she gave,

"Salad, and I want you to prepare it yourself."
