Ch. 111..115: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 111-115

Chapter 111: Chapter 111 – Devin’s confession

Matilda smiled sadly, afraid for her longest-kept secret to blow out of proportion. She was sure to never be able to see the face of the said person again.

"You promise not to tell?" She asked Lizzy seriously.

Lizzy was curious and knew that secrets were secret,

so she was indeed not going to tell anyone.

"This would be our tiny little secret," she promised.

Matilda was still a little doubtful and thought of getting something in return. She asked Lizzy,

"Then tell me first, do you like Daniel?"

Lizzy covered her face shyly and smiled. "Yes, but I would like to get to know him first."

She had done a great job pretending but seeing that she might lose it all if she kept on the pretense, she decided to take the bull by the horn. Matilda smiled and encouraged her,

"Good. Don’t make it too easy on him, and don’t make it too hard."

"How is that?" Lizzy asked with another yoke of confusion. Matilda explained calmly,

"When he comes strong, push him away. When he retreats, flirt with him. That way, he would understand that you would only give in if you would have his commitment, that is, having him all to yourself."

Lizzy liked the idea since she was not ready to share anyway. She curiously asked, "So, who is that man you fell in love with?"

Matilda smiled sadly and revealed, "Your brother. Over the years, I tried to show him, but he never showed interest. I tried to get over him by going on blind dates and all. It just got me into trouble. I’m trying to accept that he isn’t mine."

"And the hardest thing I’ve ever done is living in the same house with him and pretending not to feel anything for him. It’s harder when we’re left alone, like now that Sabrina was admitted to the hospital."

"Trust me, Lizzy, it is extremely hard because sometimes, I see in his eyes that he might feel something for me and the words he uses sometimes, but then, nothing comes out, and my hopes are crushed, feeling that I read the signs wrongly."

This was the first time Matilda poured out her heart about this to anyone. She never told Sabrina because she feared Sabrina would feel bad for her. It was not right to move on the pity of her shoulders.

"Why don’t you tell him?" Lizzy asked fervently. She was sure that Devin would not bite, but at least Matilda would know exactly how he felt about her.

If it was positive, then that would be good news. If it was negative, then it would be left for endurance.

"I don’t have that courage, and I will bring breakfast to Sabrina tomorrow."

Lizzy did not understand the breakfast part and felt like something was off. She quickly looked around at the sudden change in topic and realized that Devin was standing behind the door.

She smiled in understanding of the fact that Matilda did not want Devin to know about what they had just discussed, but she wished they had more time to talk, whereas now was not it.

"Okay then, I will see you when Sabrina gets discharged." Lizzy opened the door and stepped out while Devin took her place.

"Same here."

As Devin drove, Matilda noticed something different about him. He seemed troubled about something, and no matter how she tried to ignore it and advise herself that it was not her business, she just could not do it.

"Is everything alright? It’s as if your mind is far away."

Devin looked at her and forced a smile. Matilda expected him to say something, but he didn’t, so after a while, she asked again,

"Won’t you say anything?"

Devin swallowed tightly and parked the car by the shoulder of the road. Matilda was disturbed but also noticed that his hands were shaking.

She kept wondering what his father must have told him to make him feel that way and thought of ways she could help him to overcome it.

"If it’s a problem, I can drive," Matilda suggested. She unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to alight from the car when Devin said,

"Tilda, I don’t know how to say this without you feeling that I’m taking advantage but believe me when I say that it did not start anytime soon. It was there a long time ago."

Matilda paused her movement and focused her attention on him. "I’m sorry, but I don’t understand."

Devin pressed a button, and his chair slid to the back, giving enough space to his front. He turned to the side, facing Matilda. He did not know how she was going to take it, but he felt that if he did not say it now, then he would lose the courage forever.

"I love you, Matilda."

Matilda froze instantly, and Devin forced himself to continue with what he wanted to say.

"It’s been so long, and I have kept it inside. I didn’t want to have anything to do with you because you are my sister’s best friend, but I couldn’t stand it when Daniel tried to hit on you. This is not how I wanted to say it, but it’s too painful to keep it inside."

Devin was breathing heavily as if he just ran a marathon. Seeing Matilda freeze like that, he was afraid that she was going to reject him, so he quickly added,

"I’m not asking you to love me back. I’m just letting you know how I feel."

He started the engine and stepped on the accelerator when Matilda screamed, "Stop."

Devin pressed the brake instantly and looked at her. He ensured that the car was locked since he feared she was going to run away. Now he felt stupid for saying it. At least he should have waited until they got home.

Before he could say Jack, he was covered with Matilda’s warmth. While she embraced him, she sobbed into his chest. Devin was confused, not knowing why she was crying and feeling like he offended her.

Chapter 112: Chapter 112 – The history of Sabrina, Robin, and Zayla

"I’m sorry for..." He was about to apologize when Matilda cut him off.

"No, please don’t apologize. I just thought I’d never hear those words from you."

Her voice was teary, and she clung to him as if her world was dependent on it. Devin was now the confused one.

"I don’t get it," he said honestly. Matilda was about to confess but wondered when he began to feel this way about her.

"How long have you kept this in your heart?" She asked curiously, breaking from the hug and leaning back in her seat.

Devin wanted to pull her closer, but he had not gotten her response and felt it was wrong to just do as he felt. He began to recall the past with a thin smile,

"Ever since I saw you with Sabrina the first time. She had kicked Zayla out of her life after seeing her with Robin, right after confessing how much she loved Robin to Zayla and telling Zayla that Robin was sick and she wanted to save him."

As Devin recalled the story, his anger boiled towards Robin for how much Sabrina had gone through because of him. He continued to say,

"She told Zayla that Robin had a rare blood group and was not going to get a kidney donor, but she had checked and realized that she was a match.

She had the same blood group as Robin, AB negative. Zayla asked about her plans, and she said she did not want Robin to love her because she gave him her kidney."

"That she would wait until Robin fell in love with her even before knowing. When she saw Zayla with Robin, she was broken, and I told her not to do it. I even told my father not to approve of it because she was just fifteen. But my father loved Robin’s father so much, just as I love Martin. He signed the papers, and Sabrina anonymously donated her kidney."

Tears formed in Devin’s eyes as he continued to recount the details of the story to Matilda. He knew that Matilda already knew about the kidney transplant but without the details.

"In her time of recovery, your father bought a house close to ours, and you became our neighbor. You ran into our house and said you were lonely and wanted to play."

Matilda smiled when she recalled that part. She was fourteen going on fifteen, and Devin was almost an adult. He was strikingly handsome, but by then, she did not have any intention of a relationship.

She just needed a friend to play with because she was bored.

"You said you’d play with me, and I said that you are a boy. I wanted to play with a girl. Then you brought Lizzy, and I said she was so full of herself," Matilda took the words from his mouth. Devin smiled and took it back.

"Then I told you she was just going through a moment because our sister had just undergone surgery. You insisted on seeing her, and you slept by her bedside that day. Your father came looking for you everywhere, and my dad said no girl had come to our house because he had not seen you. So, I told him you were in Sabrina’s room."

"My dad came? Then why did I wake up by Sabrina’s side? He would have carried me home because he never liked me going to people’s houses. He always feared that I would get into trouble one day," Matilda recalled.

Devin smiled and explained further,

"When your dad saw you sleeping beside Sabrina and holding her hand tightly, he left with tears in his eyes, saying that you wanted a sibling, but he could not give you one because your mother had died, and he did not plan to marry again."

Matilda wiped a tear from her eyes at the knowledge that her father had come to look for her that day. When she woke up, she thought he was angry with her and had not bothered to look for her. Now she realized how wrong she was and instantly missed him. Devin continued to say,

"That was when I fell in love with you."

"Why did you not tell me?" Matilda asked, realizing that he even loved her longer than she thought all these years.

Whereas she thought she was the only one suffering. If one of them had been bold enough, it would have ended their years of agony, and Matilda would not have fallen into the likes of Stanley’s hands.

"At first, we were both young, so I thought that I just loved you like I loved my sisters. Then you both went to the same college. You were a woman, but I was afraid that you only saw me as a brother, and I didn’t want to destroy your friendship with Sabrina, just in case you ran away because you didn’t want to see me again. I was scared," Devin face-palmed, feeling ashamed.

He never felt so vulnerable in the presence of any woman, not even Lindsay, whom he thought he loved.

Matilda was feeling strange. She could not believe that this was happening, but seeing how Devin had turned out, he could not lie about this.

"Hahaha, I can’t believe that a violent man like you would be scared of a skittish girl like me," she cracked a joke to loosen the atmosphere.

Devin chuckled and was not ashamed to feel that way. For the fact that she was not upset, his heart was gladdened.

"I tried to date other women, tried to make myself believe that what I felt for you was familial love. I tried to love them, but it didn’t work until I met Lindsay. I thought I was in love with her because she was so much like you, and I felt that she was the right woman."

"Lindsay, the actress?" Matilda asked, feeling surprised. Lindsay was now a superstar, and from how two years of Matilda’s life had been locked away, she felt intimidated.

Chapter 113: Chapter 113 – Hidden desires

"Yes," Devin admitted. Matilda felt a sense of loss that should Lindsay come back, Devin would run to her. After all, who would not like to date a woman like Lindsay? She was just so glamorous.

"You both dated?" She asked seriously, and Devin nodded his head before he added,

"Until I caught her cheating on me. I sponsored her. I made her who she is. I gave her everything just to see her happy, but she was banging on one of my business partners. I broke up with her, but she came to beg for forgiveness a few days after Sabrina’s divorce, and her presence reminded me of you."

From the way the story turned out, Matilda did not feel intimidated by Lindsay anymore. The pressure lessened from her heart whiles Devin continued to speak,

"That was when I asked about you from Sabrina, and she decided to call you. So, this is the pathetic story of my life."

Matilda felt giddy in her stomach, but she was saddened to have gone through so much before finding out the truth about what they felt for each other.

"If you had told me how you felt, I would not have gone through all that I went through."

"I still don’t understand," Devin looked at her with a confused expression. Matilda smiled and confessed her part.

"Well, I fell in love with you in college. You were our senior, and we were freshers. I wanted to ask you out, but everyone I told said it was wrong for a woman to ask a guy out. I tried to get over you, but I couldn’t," Matilda lowered her head shyly as she recalled everything.

Devin was excited but also felt so stupid that he wanted to hide his face for the fact that Matilda had even thought about making a move when he kept hiding his feelings for her.

Indeed, it was right for her not to have made the first move, but now, he felt like the cause of everything she went through in life.

"So, all the men you dated?" He asked curiously.

Whenever she was with any man, his heart would ache, but he would shake it off and convince himself that it was okay and they were not meant to be.

Even when he heard the news about her drug case, he wanted to help but held on, using Sabrina as an excuse.

"That was my quest to move on and feel that we were not meant to be," Matilda said with a heavy heart. Her emotions were complicated at the moment, and she did not know what he would think of her now.

Surprisingly, Devin leaned in and pulled her to his chest.

With the awkward position, she ended up sitting on his lap, and her stomach was feeling hot and giddy.

Devin’s hands were around her waist as he stared her longingly in the eyes and said,

"I’m so sorry. If I could change the hands of time, I would do things differently."

Matilda wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled, "I’m glad you told me now. I was confused about what occurred at the hospital," Matilda said honestly.

Devin was so overjoyed. He was afraid that pursuing her was going to be difficult, but the feeling was mutual, and now that he knew, he vowed to treat her like the queen she was.

"Matilda, so you came back to me after all these years. Let’s get married, please?" He leaned his forehead against hers and pleaded.

They were both adults, and with their feelings for each other having been hidden for so long, Devin was not ready to take any more chances.

Matilda went into shock mode. She never expected things to escalate this fast. She created a little gap between them and said honestly,

"I love you, Devin, but marriage is too soon. I want to achieve my dreams first."

"Share your dreams with me." Devin was not offended. They loved each other, so even if they could not get married immediately, he would wait for as long as it took.

"I want to go to culinary school and become a chef," Matilda revealed, not knowing how he was going to take it. Now that everything was over and her name was cleared, she was free to move about, and after the party, she would begin to pursue her dreams.

"Your dreams shall be my dream as well, and I will help you to achieve them." Without asking, he pressed his lips against hers, and when she did not refuse, his tongue begged for entrance, and Matilda opened her mouth to give him access.

Soon, their tongues danced together, and began to fight for dominance in their first kiss. When they broke from the kiss, panting, Matilda went to her seat, blushing all through as Devin drove to his penthouse with a speed he never used before.

Arriving there, Matilda was pinned against the wall while Devin took her lips ferociously. His warm hands caressed her body, making her lost in his touch. He explored every inch of her body through the thin fabric on her skin.

"Please promise me that you won’t move out of here, and we will get married as soon as you achieve your dreams," he pressed his forehead against hers and asked after breaking from the kiss.

Matilda leaned closer, tip-toed, and pecked him on the lips before she said and asked,

"I promise, but can I sleep in your room tonight?" She did not know how she was going to sleep in her bed alone with the fire he just sparked in her.

Devin was honest with her, saying, "I can’t promise that I would be able to keep my hands off you."

Matilda smiled flirtatiously and responded, "I’m not asking you to, but I don’t want to get pregnant yet."

Devin thought about it for a while and agreed, "Okay, but I don’t want to use protection with you. I want everything to go deep into your womb."

"Fine. I will get pills later," Matilda said before their lips met again.

Chapter 114: Chapter 114 - I miss you so much Sabrina, you have no idea...

Back at the hospital, another food had arrived, and Sabrina found herself asking, "Is this food from the crystal hotel?"

"Not the hotel. I asked the chef to cook it, especially for you," Robin explained. It was understandable that the chef was Robin’s employee, so Sabrina asked,

"Can I get the ingredients and steps?"

"Of course, but since you are busy, you can request anything you want from him at any time," Robin assured her while he wrote down the contact for her. If she wanted, he could assign the chef to only be responsible for Sabrina’s food.

"Thank you," Sabrina sighed and said while she began to dig in. This time, she invited Robin to eat with her, and for a moment, it was as if everything was peaceful between them.

When they were done, and Robin cleared the place, he said to her,

"You will be discharged tomorrow, so I will be working from here."

Sabrina froze instantly. She also realized that he carried a sizable bag with him, which, most probably, had everything he needed with him.

Having Robin around in the evening was not easy for her, and now, he was going to stay throughout the day tomorrow?

Sabrina did not like the idea. She only warmed up to him because whether she liked it or not, they would be raising the child together.

"Robin, please, Matilda would come."

"Tell her not to come. Better still, give me her number to call her. I can still get it even if you don’t give it to me," Robin insisted.

Sabrina knew he wouldn’t stop, so she reluctantly gave him the number, and he dialed a few times.

There was no answer, so he felt that perhaps, Matilda was in the kitchen or shower. Thereby sending a text message,

’I will be with Sabrina tomorrow, so no need to come. Robin.’

He was surprised to receive an instant response,

’Okay.’

Robin was surprised that she did not question it and dialed her number. When she answered, the sound of the voice told him that the girl was being pumped, and he heard Devin’s jealous voice,

"Who is on the line?"

"It’s Robin. He said he was going to be with Sabrina tomorrow, so I don’t need to come," Matilda spoke in a pleasure-filled voice.

They were just about to go past foreplay and get to the real thing when the beeps and rings from Matilda’s phone distracted them.

"How the fuck did he get your number?" Devin was upset and snatched the phone from her. His naked body was covering Matilda’s naked form, but his weight was supported by his elbows whiles he spoke into the phone, asking Robin,

"How the fuck did you get her number?"

Robin was trying very hard to stifle his laughter as he discerned what was going on. It was all thanks to him citing Daniel to make Devin jealous.

Devin went to claim the love of his life for good. At least Robin deserved a trophy for pulling such a stunt.

"From her best friend. Why are you being all possessive of her? She is not your sister, in case you forgot."

Robin was pushing the limits to see if Devin would deny what was going on between him and Matilda but to his amazement, Devin responded in a deep, alluring proud voice,

"She’s my woman. Mine alone so tell that friend of yours that if he looks at her again, I will pluck out his eyes."

Robin laughed, and Sabrina glared at him, so he quickly said, "I will hang up now."

Sabrina wondered what Matilda was saying to make Robin laugh and got curious. "Why are you laughing?" She asked him.

Robin looked at her and smiled. How could he tell her that her brother was banging her best friend? Sabrina was not going to hear it from him.

"Nothing," Robin pursed his lips and said, but Sabrina did not believe him. Staring suspiciously at him, she asked directly,

"What did Matilda say?"

Since Sabrina knew that Devin and Robin were not on good terms, Robin decided to use it as an excuse.

"She did not answer the phone, but Devin did."

Sabrina sighed, guessing that Devin must have said some mean things to Robin. She smiled and replied,

"Oh, I guess he cursed you."

"You know him well," Robin agreed while trying his best not to laugh out loud. "So, how was your day?" He suddenly got serious and asked Sabrina.

"Productive. I managed to get sixty percent of the work done, so it’s not bad, and thanks for the suggestion," she lowered her head and spoke. She did not know why they were talking like friends, but it was better than being enemies.

"That is good to hear. I believe the remaining forty percent had a lot to do with approvals," he suggested.

"You guessed right," Sabrina agreed.

Robin noticed the casual dress she wore and how her hair fell loosely to her back. Without makeup on her face, she carried that angelic look he used to admire so much but never told her about.

"You look Beautiful, Sabrina. One might not even know that you are not well."

Sabrina stiffened at his words. For three years they were married, Robin never complimented her before but how time changed, in that he was telling her after the divorce. She did not want to respond to him, thereby adjusting her IVs well and closing her eyes, pretending that she had not heard.

From the way the conversation turned out, she also did not want to speak to him again. She was surprised when she felt warm, moist lips on her forehead that caused every cell in her body to jump to life.

She was about to open her eyes when she heard him say, "I miss you so much, Sabrina. You have no idea how these few days with you have been the best in my life."

Sabrina’s eyes tightened shut, and she dared not open them, as she thought about if she was dreaming to hear him say those things to her.

Chapter 115: Chapter 115 – Can I touch you bump?

Sabrina woke up to the typing sound of the keyboard of Robin’s laptop. She did not know for how long he had been there, working on his laptop.

As soon as she made a move to raise herself, Robin moved the laptop on his lap to the nightstand and was already by her side.

"How are you feeling, Sabrina?" He asked as he went around to help her up.

Remembering what he had said last night and not knowing that she heard it, Sabrina felt strange by his closeness and said,

"I’m fine, Robin. I can take care of myself."

Robin’s expression was gloomy by the rejection of his help. He knew that as soon as she was discharged, he would never get this opportunity again, maybe until the child was born. At that, he tried to force it.

"But you are still at the hospital, so I will still take care of you."

Sabrina let out a humorless chuckle at the way Robin was being all caring to her when she did not need it. She was sarcastic in her response,

"If I had known that you liked to take care of sick people when we were married, I would have fallen sick a lot of times."

She got down from the bed and went to the washroom as soon as she said those words, leaving him in regret. Robin knew that he had messed up.

He never took his father’s words about Sabrina seriously, and even his grandma Ceceila had warned him, but Robin had refused to see the old woman because of Sabrina.

He was even ashamed to render a proper apology, not knowing where to start since it was unlike him.

Sabrina did not only ease herself but also decided to shower before realizing that she had not taken a clean dress with her except the one she wore to the bathroom. Well, since Robin claimed to want to take care of her, she gritted her teeth and called for him,

"Robin!"

Robin walked to the door, grinning like a fool for the fact that she called for him by herself. He spoke in a soft tone,

"Dear one, do you need anything?"

Sabrina’s teeth ground even more, and she snarled,

"Please don’t call me that. I just want a clean dress."

How she wished she had run away after the divorce. Being in this position brought so many memories, and this so-called pet name he just developed for her was getting her so irritated.

"You mean dear one, it suits you. Unless you can give me a better name to call you," Robin smiled and spoke from the door.

He loved it if she spoke to him, even if it was sarcastic. After all, he did worse things to her. He went around, picked the dress, and stood by the door.

"I have the dress, dear one. Should I come in?"

Sabrina’s face reddened, and she quickly draped a towel around her chest, walked to the door and stretched out her hand,

"Here, let me have it." Her tone was so icy, but Robin did not care. He decided to joke with her a little and closed his eyes.

"Where? I can’t see anything."

Sabrina was getting more and more annoyed behind the door. She began to shake her outstretched arm in case he truly did not see it.

"My hand, Robin."

"But I can’t see it," Robin said with his eyes closed when someone knocked on the door. He frowned at not being able to achieve his aim of teasing her longer.

"Dear one, you are so lucky that breakfast is here."

He stuffed the dress in her hand and walked to the door, with Sabrina sighing with relief. Robin went to get the food he ordered at the same time the doctor arrived with a nurse.

"Good morning, Mr. Jewel."

"Good morning, doctor. She’s in the bathroom," Robin informed the doctor who was looking here and there for Sabrina.

"I’m here, doctor," Sabrina said from the doorway of the bathroom. Before the doctor spoke, Robin observed,

"Your hair is too wet. You will catch a cold," he said seriously before turning to the doctor and asking, "Doctor, can we get a drier around here?"

"Please get her a drier," the doctor said to the nurse.

As the nurse went to get the drier, the doctor said to Sabrina, "We will administer your last IV, and you can be discharged by evening."

"Can’t I be discharged this morning?" Sabrina asked, eager to leave Robin alone. Robin frowned at her request. ’Why is she so eager to leave me?’ Luckily for him, the doctor responded,

"No. We still have to do a few observations after the last IV before allowing you to sign the discharge forms, but If you don’t mind, I’d like to examine you."

The nurse arrived with the hair drier, and Robin took it and kept it aside while Sabrina went to lie on the bed, face up, and Robin would not give any form of privacy.

His eyes were glinting when the doctor examined Sabrina, putting a little pressure on her lower abdomen and asking,

"Do you feel any pain?"

"No," Sabrina shook her head and spoke.

Robin caught sight of the almost invisible bump, and his eyes lit. When the doctor left with the nurse, Sabrina was about to rise from the bed when Robin asked her,

"Can I touch your bump? Please?"

Sabrina bit her lower lip, not knowing if it was right. The growing baby was theirs, but her body was only hers. Confusion clouded her mind as she felt lost asked,

"Must you?"

"You are the only one having all the experience. I want to have a touch of how our child is faring."

Robin’s expression was both pitiful and desperate. Sabrina found herself agreeing. After all, she was going to be discharged today, and he would not have the chance again.

"Okay."

Joy flashed in Robin’s eyes, and he lifted her dress and slid his hand into it, resting it right onto her lower abdomen.

As his warm palm came into contact with her warm stomach, Sabrina felt strange, but the next moment, she saw Robin close his eyes as a tear dropped from them.
