Ch. 146..150: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 146-150
Chapter 146: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 146 – What is in the villa and why did Sabrina want it so much?”
At the end of the line, Sabrina was enjoying her lunch when the call came through. She was worried that something had happened to Cecilia and quickly pushed the food aside to answer the call.
The weight of the question broke her defenses, and she felt guilty. She always wanted to tell the old woman, knowing that it would make her very happy but constantly sent the thought to the back of her mind every time it came.
"I’m sorry, Grandma, I was just afraid you would tell me to go back to Robin," Sabrina said honestly, the food suddenly losing its taste in her mouth.
Cecilia frowned and shook her head. It would be very sinister of her if she ever did that.
"I would never advise you to go back to my grandson after the way he treated you." Robin’s hand and head froze on his grandmother’s lap and he rose to sit on the chair beside her.
He knew that he messed up and though he could not hear what Sabrina was saying, he could feel her getting emotional.
"I’m so sorry," Sabrina apologized again, feeling guilty that the old woman found out when it was not from her but she wondered who must have told her since Robin never visited her for a very long time.
"It’s okay. I will soon see my grandchild and that is all that matters," the old woman consoled her.
Sabrina’s reason was understandable, for which reason the old woman could not dwell on the matter anymore.
"I will pay you a visit next week," Sabrina said from her side of the line. The old woman smiled since she always enjoyed Sabrina’s company. She loved her like her granddaughter.
"I look forward to it," she responded when Sabrina asked since the old woman had forgiven her.
"Grandma, how did you know? About my pregnancy, I mean."
Cecilia turned her head and looking at Robin’s miserable face, she said, "You should come and visit me first, and we shall talk about it."
Since Sabrina already had it in her plans to visit her soon, she quickly agreed, "Alright, talk to you later."
The old woman’s attention shifted to Robin since he seemed calmer now. She knew that Robin would not just wake up to come and visit. Something must have happened to drag the stubborn, proud, and arrogant grandson to come and see her in such a humble form.
"Robin, why are you here?"
Robin did not know how to meander with words so he spoke honestly, "Grandma, please tell me the truth. Are there diamonds in the villa?"
His question surprised the old woman but she had a calm expression while she asked him, "Robin, what are you talking about?"
Robin knew that he sounded crazy, just as it sounded crazy to him when Zayla mentioned it. He was ashamed to say it but that was what brought him here and he had to get the clarity he needed.
"Grandma, Zayla mentioned it."
"Who is Zayla?" The old woman frowned and asked, pretending that she did not know the serpent. Sabrina already told her everything and showed her the house Zayla lived in before and the old woman remembered her vividly.
With Robin, she was playing a fast one since she was eager to know Robin’s intentions concerning the treasure.
"Sorry, you don’t know her. She is the one pregnant with my child and she is also the one who donated her kidney to save me," Robin said and Cecilia’s anger boiled.
Now she understood the reason why Robin did not attempt to save his marriage, all because Zayla was just like her father.
"What?" The old woman frowned and her gaze made Robin a little afraid. His father inherited that gaze from his mother and Robin had it too but experiencing it himself, he could not help but cower.
"I know you are surprised; I will bring her to visit you. She wanted to remain anonymous so no one knew it was her," Robin said, misunderstanding his grandmother’s expressions to mean that she was too surprised to hear it, whereas it was not the case.
"Are you talking about Kennedy Chance’s daughter?" The old woman removed her pretense and asked directly, perceiving that her grandson had been deceived by the evil man and his equally evil daughter once again.
Only Cecilia dared to tell him about what Kennedy Chance did to his mother, thinking that no one would know. By the time Robin’s father got the proof, it was already too late and he had health challenges.
The least he could do was ban Zayla from stepping on the soil of New York City but he was not physically strong enough to take revenge against her father.
"Grandma, how do you know her?" Robin asked seriously since none of her family ever knew Zayla.
After he recovered from the kidney transplant, he was so happy and wanted to introduce Zayla to his father as the woman he wanted to marry but Zayla had disappeared just like that.
Later, he found out his father was involved but did not know the details of it.
"Her father was a close family friend before but he had a misunderstanding with your father and he warned him to never get close to him or his family. Kennedy is a very terrible man," Cecilia said, not wanting to spill the beans when she knew where Robin could find the truth.
"But his daughter saved my life. If he knew, he would reconsider, right?" Robin asked hopefully, the old woman scoffed, asking,
"Which daughter? Zayla? Have you spoken to her mother before?"
Zayla’s mother was an honest woman and Cecilia knew that Robin would get information from her concerning her husband and daughter.
"No. The last time I went there, I did not see her mother," Robin responded thoughtfully, remembering that the general also had a similar reaction when he told him that Zayla was the one who saved his life.
"If you can, you should but that is not important at the moment. I am happy that you did not let me die before coming to see me," Cecilia smiled and said, trying to divert his attention from the matter at hand but Robin curiously asked her,
"Grandma, I still want an answer. What is in the villa and why did Sabrina want it so much?"
Chapter 147: Chapter 147 – the mystery of the villa
There was a long pause, as Cecilia contemplated on if he should tell Robin when there was an evil woman in his life.
However, she also knew that Robin was wise, beginning from when he gave the villa to Sabrina instead of Zayla, though he claimed to hate Sabrina.
Even in hate, if he could keep his sense of reasoning, even after believing that the wrong person saved his life, then the old woman could conclude that he was indeed wise.
Also, the company has been flourishing well, which means that Robin had not allowed Zayla into its management.
That was another show of wisdom, keeping women away from the business. After having a firm hold on this analysis, Cecilia concluded that it was right to let him know, saying truthfully,
"Grandson, your father told me before he died that there was a treasure in the villa but I don’t know what it is."
If there was indeed a treasure, Robin concluded that the diamonds indeed existed and since his grandmother still did not know, then it remained untouched. Robin could already see a brighter future for the Jewel family.
"Is Sabrina aware? If she was, she would not have sold it to you right?"
Robin intentionally used the word sold, so that his grandmother would correct him if he was wrong. He did not believe that Sabrina could sell the villa but if she indeed gifted it to Cecilia, then it means that she took nothing for alimony after the divorce, which pricked Robin’s conscience.
"What do you mean sell? She gave it to me as a birthday gift and yes, your father told her to not allow any woman to lay hands on it."
"He made her promise that should you never change, and she wants a divorce, she should take the villa so that the next woman you marry, would not lay hands on the treasures inside."
Robin smiled bitterly and was flung with guilt. Sabrina was a woman he did not deserve. After enduring his torture for three years, she left with nothing. Then the villa, she gave it to Cecilia, which indirectly meant that she gave it back to Robin.
Cecilia was more like a caretaker because she was old and did not have any use for it. Robin was the only surviving grandson, which meant that he was going to inherit it back when his grandmother was no more.
After analyzing everything, he felt even more guilty, not knowing where to start in apologizing to Sabrina.
"I have lived in that villa for over five years, before and after my father died and I saw nothing that looked like treasures," he stated and the old woman agreed.
Even she had not seen anything of that sort but if her son, Ronald Jewel said it was there, then it was indeed there because the man never lied.
"Sabrina did not see anything like that either. She mentioned that perhaps he just wanted her to take good care of it," Cecilia remembered, adding to Robin’s Impasse.
"Thank you for telling me all this," Robin said but Cecilia was confused, feeling that he wanted to give up on the search since she was also interested in knowing what her late son hid in that villa as a treasure.
"Grandson, do you want the villa back? I can give it to you. I was told that you came there. I won’t be surprised that you miss it because of all the memories there."
Hearing his grandmother’s words, a tear dropped from Robin’s eyes once again, feeling undeserving of everything. His grandmother thought he was there because he missed the memories in the villa, not knowing that he was there because of the treasure.
"Grandma, I don’t want the villa. I was just going to see if what Zayla said was true," Robin put it in another way to make himself feel better since he could not lie to his grandmother.
The only thing he kept lying about himself and others for years was his feelings for Sabrina but for other things, he would not hesitate to spill the truth.
Cecilia thought carefully since she wanted to end this whole thing about the villa and asked,
"Did you ever go to your father’s room after he died?"
If anyone would hide something, it must be at the place where they had their private time. Ronald’s bedroom was the only place that no one entered without his permission. Even his study was open to a few like Robin and Sabrina.
"No. I was feeling too guilty to do that."
Robin did not think he would even remember what his father’s room looked like since they spoke more in the study than in his bedroom.
Cecilia stood up for the first time since Robin arrived. She walked slowly up the stairs to her room and returned soon after with two sets of keys.
"These are the keys to your father’s room. There is a hidden door in the closet. It opens into his secret archive," she said, giving him a hint of where to find what he was looking for but Robin felt so terrible, he could not accept it.
"Grandma, I don’t want to go there."
The old woman smiled because Robin passed the test. Throughout their conversation, she observed him keenly and was happy for his honesty through it all.
She also saw the guilt and regret in his eyes. The fact that he accepted his mistakes but did not know how to correct them because the other woman was pregnant.
She could also understand that as an only child, Robin felt lonely and craved a family, for which reason he could not let Zayla go to fight for Sabrina.
However, his grandmother was sure that after visiting the villa, he would find the answer to every question in his heart.
"Grandson, your father kept something for you there. They were his last written words before he died. He told me to give it to you if you ever have a change of heart. I think that is the treasure you are looking for."
Chapter 148: Chapter 148 – The letter in the archive
Robin did not know what to expect but his countenance was already terrible when he drove back to the villa.
The security did not stop him this time, as his grandmother already called them when he left the old villa after taking the keys.
When he entered the living room, the maids were very afraid since none of the bosses had been in the villa for over a month now, after the madam of the house moved out.
"Welcome, Mr. Jewel," the chief maid greeted, partly afraid of Robin’s dark countenance.
Robin looked around and everything was just the way it was when he left that morning with Zayla.
"Thank you, Margaret. I came to check on a few things," Robin said and headed upstairs to his father’s room.
He took a step back after opening the door when his face was covered in cobwebs.
"Margaret!" He yelled from upstairs after switching on the lights and removing the lines of cobwebs on his face.
Margaret was scared and ran to meet him. She was a middle-aged woman but very active. She asked,
"Sir, is there a problem?"
Robin was furious and raged, "Why doesn’t anyone clean this room?"
He forgot that no one had the keys and he was the one who opened the door. Margaret was tongue-tied before saying,
"Old Mr. Jewel, before he died, told us all to never come here. Only Madam used to clean this room herself."
Indeed. Even if his father would not allow anyone into his room, Sabrina would always be an exception. "Give me a sweeping brush."
Margaret went to get the sweeping brush but was reluctant to give it to him. "Sir, I can do it for you."
She was not expecting her arrogant boss to extend his hand to take the sweeping brush from her. "No. You can go," Robin refused.
If his father never allowed anyone here, then why should he? Also, if Sabrina used to clean, then why shouldn’t he?
Robin did not remember the last time he used the sweeping brush but was proud of himself an hour after cleaning his late father’s room. Something that would take a normal person ten to fifteen minutes.
He went into the closet where his father’s clothes still were, thinking about giving them out to charity but then again, deciding to ask Sabrina what to do with them since she knew his father better. His father was never coming back.
Then he went into the closet and indeed saw a small door. Using the other key, it opened and indeed there was a secret archive.
Robin was amazed that his father had something like that. No one would even think about it and it was no wonder no one knew about any treasure.
Meanwhile, there was just a black briefcase in there with a name written boldly on a white A5 sheet and pasted on it.
’ROBIN.’
Robin wanted to take it to the penthouse but decided to at least open it and see. As he did, there was an envelope with the caption,
’READ ME FIRST.’
Robin wanted to open the other items in the briefcase first but with that bold inscription on the DL envelope, he held back.
Everything was written in his father’s handwriting, the same as the long letter in the envelope. When he opened it, his eyes blurred with tears as he read,
’Robin, if you are reading this, then you changed your ways. It was all I ever hoped for you because of how much I love you.’
’I don’t blame you for how you turned out. It was because you could not contain the loss of your mother. For a long time, you kept looking for comfort in women to soothe that pain, and as your father, I understand you better than anyone, though you sort solace in the wrong places.’
Reading about his mother, Robin broke down completely. He was so young when she died and being so close to her before then, he did not know how to get over the pain as a young boy of nine years.
His father was busy with the company by then and Robin had a way of keeping it all in when he was dying slowly.
His grandmother was there but Robin never opened up to her. It was difficult for him to understand that a good woman like her mother could just die like that. Robin continued to shed tears while reading the letter.
’I’m glad that you changed and whatever brought the change, let it remain. Since you are now the son I should be proud of in my grave, I thought to let you know the secret things of your life.’
Robin quickly wiped his tears at this part. The secrets were what he was looking for.
’Inside this briefcase are your health records, together with that of your mystery donor. You always wanted to know and I always wanted to tell you but she forbade me from doing so, as young as she was, for reasons, she would not tell me. This is a woman who loved you since she was eleven.’
Robin was confused since he already knew that Zayla was the one who saved him. He felt he had wasted his time but something prompted him to finish reading the letter.
’Handle this information wisely because telling you this, I have broken her trust and that of her parents. There is also a family treasure, passed down over the years, the reason why Jewel incorporated can never go down.’
Robin took a deep breath, wishing he had not been so careless with his sex life in the past. He would have asked his father a lot of questions but all he had was a long-handwritten letter.
’However, I don’t think that treasure is worth your life so I decided to give them to the woman who gave you life when the doctors said you had just two days to live if we did not get a donor.’
Chapter 149: Chapter 149 – Robin faints at the painful revelation
Robin suddenly felt guilty. If his father planned to give the treasure to Zayla, then he should have rightfully given her the villa but thought to know what this treasure was.
’Robin, the treasure in that bottle, are two hundred pieces of rare clear diamonds, worth trillions of dollars. I don’t know what the market value would be at the time you read this letter but it should be more and not less.’
’I know that this woman would not want it. She would reject it so what I ask is this, her happiness lies in your hands.’
Robin felt guilty again for being upset with Zayla because of just half a million and thought to apologize to her, but not until he read the next paragraph,
’Keep the treasure and give Sabrina the happiness she deserves. She is the woman who saved your life.’
No, Robin could not believe it. If Sabrina was the one who saved his life, then why did she not tell him throughout their three years of marriage?
’This was the reason why I pretended to be sick by then to force you to marry her, not knowing that I was indeed sick. I did not think that any woman loved you as much as she did. All she wanted was for you to love her for who she is, not because of the life she gave you. I guess you failed at that.’
Robin’s eyes blurred again when he remembered the time of signing Sabrina’s discharge forms and seeing her health record.
The way she got nervous when he asked about her blood group and turned sarcastic. Robin knew that his father would never lie so if there was a liar, then that was...
’One last thing, Robin, your mother did not die of sickness like I told you. She was poisoned by Kennedy Chance. It was a slow poison that was detected too late.’
’That is the reason why your mother battled for her life before losing it. I knew that her death was already too heavy on you, for which reason I kept it to myself but now, you are old enough to know what to do.’
Oh, Robin could feel the darkness closing up on him and dialed Daniel’s number. When Daniel answered the phone, Robin could not speak.
"Robin, where are you?" Daniel was close to getting Mara’s hacker when the call came through and had to end everything.
"Robin, are you alright?" Daniel could hear heavy panting, feeling that something was wrong. He instantly tracked him to the villa and set off.
From where he was, it took him at least thirty minutes to get there, even with the speed he used.
Reaching the villa, he was denied access and since Robin was not answering the phone, he called Sabrina. Daniel knew the whole story but did not know that Sabrina had given out the villa. He was glad when Sabrina answered the phone.
"Sabrina, Robin is the villa and I think something happened to him but the security would not let me in," Daniel said hastily, not asking how Sabrina was fairing.
Sabrina was disturbed due to the urgency in Daniel’s tone but was also afraid that Robin wanted to take the villa from her to give to Zayla.
"What is he doing there? The villa no longer belongs to me," she said in a slightly indifferent tone. Daniel did not have time to argue, as he was very worried about Robin.
"Please cut it, Sabrina. Robin called and did not speak. I only heard heavy breathing and he is not answering his phone again. I tracked him to the villa and I know that he is in there."
Sabrina did not know why she even cared to worry about him but maybe, for the sake of his father and grandma.
"Hang on a minute."
Sabrina put the phone on hold and called Cecilia. At the same time, Daniel called Robin’s doctor to meet him at the villa.
"Grandma, please did you give Robin access to the villa?"
"Yes. He came here asking about the treasure but how did you know?" Cecilia asked, wondering if Robin called Sabrina after discovering the treasure.
"His best friend suspects that something happened to him. Please call security to give him access to go and check on him," Sabrina said.
Since she already gave the villa to Cecilia, she had no right to question who she allowed there.
"It’s my fault. I gave him the keys to his father’s room as he asked me to do before his death. I don’t know what Robin found out but it must be serious. I will call them and call you later," Cecilia explained with remorse, feeling that whatever Robin saw must have been too painful for him to take.
"Thank you," Sabrina said and after Cecilia hung up, she said to Daniel, "The security will give you access but please update me on his condition."
"Sure, Sabrina, thank you," Daniel said.
At the same time the security received a call and opened the gates. Daniel did not know where to check because of the vastness of the villa and asked the maids,
"Hey, you know me. Where is Robin?" The maid had no idea and pointed in the direction Margaret was coming out. Daniel followed it and smiled a little.
"Margaret, where is Robin?"
Margaret was confused at the intrusion, wondering why Daniel did not call Robin on the phone. She knew that Daniel was Robin’s best friend.
"Mr. Root, he went upstairs to his father’s room."
"Thank you."
Daniel was in the middle of the stairs when he paused and said,
"His doctor is on the way. Send him in when he gets here."
Margaret was flung with anxiety. "Did something happen?"
Margaret was worried but the doctor had arrived so she sent him upstairs. Daniel had gotten there first and screamed when he saw Robin lying unconscious on the cold floor with an open briefcase and a long paper in his hand.
"ROBIN!"
Chapter 150: Chapter 150 – Robin regains consciousness
Daniel quickly rushed to his side and carried him to the bed, at the same time the doctor walked in.
"Doctor Paul, thank you for making it so quickly," Daniel said with relief but was still nervous. Robin was strong and nothing ever made him faint in his life before, for as long as Daniel has known him.
"What happened to him?" The doctor asked while checking Robin’s heartbeat with his stethoscope.
"I don’t know," Daniel responded before his eyes traveled to the letter and he picked it up from the floor reading the first lines, he guessed where the shock came from. "I think it’s from this letter his father left him but it must be confidential so we should not read it."
Daniel was Robin’s best friend but would not read something he saw to be confidential unless Robin permitted him.
While the doctor checked on Robin, Daniel folded the letter, put it back in the envelope, placed it in the briefcase, and closed it.
He carried the briefcase and put it on the bed while he sat beside it, to Robin’s left.
From that position, he could observe Robin, while keeping an eye on the briefcase as well. If Robin called him before passing out, it was because he trusted him enough to cover his back.
The doctor opened his briefcase which contained emergency supplies in relation to Robin’s condition as Daniel had described on the phone. Robin did not like hospitals, for which reason the doctor had a fair idea of what to bring along.
"His blood pressure is high but he passed out from shock. Do you know what caused it?" The doctor asked Daniel, who frowned before going into deep thought. The doctor was a family doctor but not Robin’s confidante.
Moreover, Robin could have straight away called the doctor, instead of calling Daniel.
"When will he regain consciousness? Perhaps he can tell us," Daniel said after a little thought.
The doctor did not ask again, since Daniel’s countenance showed that he was not going to say anything anymore.
After the examination and administering some IVs, the doctor gave an update on Robin’s condition.
"From the look of it, he should be regaining consciousness anytime soon."
"Then let’s wait but I have to call Sabrina," Daniel said and before he redialed Sabrina’s number on the phone, the doctor asked with a frown,
"His ex-wife? Why not Zayla, the woman he loves?" When Robin left the villa that day, he informed his doctor about his new home and how he and Sabrina were divorced. He also mentioned Zayla, for which reason the doctor knew.
Daniel never liked Zayla, thereby responding curtly, "I’m not on good terms with Zayla and besides, this villa belongs to Sabrina."
The doctor wanted to ask more questions but Daniel had already dialed Sabrina’s number.
"Daniel, is he alright?" Sabrina asked as soon as she answered the call, seeming disturbed and Daniel was surprised. He expected her to act aloof but Sabrina was not heartless. She would never hit a man when he was down.
"He is unconscious but the doctor said he would gain consciousness any moment from now."
Sabrina was even more disturbed upon hearing that Robin was still unconscious. "So, he fainted or what? What happened?" Sabrina asked anxiously, wondering what in the villa could make someone like Robin faint.
This was a villa where they lived together throughout their marital years.
"I don’t have the details but I will let you know as soon as he wakes up," Daniel said assuringly, Sabrina felt grateful to him,
"Thank you."
The doctor was checking something on his phone while Daniel was doing the same with his iPad. Robin opened his eyes and tried to remember where he was.
He saw the doctor and frowned, then he turned his neck to the side and saw Daniel, frowning deeper, as he tried to recollect everything.
As soon as the memories began to flood in, he panicked and lifted himself aggressively to a sitting position.
"The briefcase, the letter!"
The sound of his husky voice caused the doctor to drop his phone on the chair he sat whiles, hastening to check on him. Daniel also turned to face him from where he sat, exclaiming,
"Robin. You are awake."
"Did you see a letter and a briefcase?" Robin asked seriously, not responding directly to the question.
That briefcase was a treasure and he could not lose it. His level of anxiety scared Daniel and the Doctor was worried because of his sudden rise in blood pressure.
"Chill Robin, it’s right here," Daniel said, pointing at where he kept the briefcase.
Robin was grateful. It was the reason he called Daniel because they have been friends for a long time, knowing each other’s likes and dislikes for which reason Daniel would know what to do in a situation like that.
"Ah, thank you very much. Can I have it?" Robin asked politely, as his countenance saddened at the content of the letter.
All along, he was made to believe a lie and treated the right woman badly, while claiming to love the wrong one.
"Of course," Daniel said and gave the briefcase to him when the doctor said,
"You should be more concerned about your health and not what got you into this state."
There was a warning in his tone but it was as if Robin did not hear him, as he continued to read the letter from where he stopped. This time, he was very much prepared.
’From the beginning, Kennedy Chance knew about these diamonds when I was trying to get the market value. It has always been in the family for ages, for which reason we were named Jewel.’
’The rare diamonds are the Jewels of the family and before starting the company, we sold some for the capital. When we made enough profit, we bought them back at a higher price and when your mother found out that Kennedy knew, he killed her because she tried to expose him when he tried to get into the villa to get it.’
’I take the blame because I never believed her when she told me because Kennedy succeeded in fooling me to believe that he was a loyal friend. I lost your mother because of my stupidity.’
’I hope you use this information wisely. I love you and I forgive your past mistakes. Live right and have as many children as you can."
’Sincerely, your father, Ronald Jewel.’
"Robin, what is in the letter?" Daniel asked and Robin gave the letter to him while the doctor checked on Robin.
After Daniel finished reading, he paled like a ghost, asking, "So, what are you going to do now?
