Ch. 176..180: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 176-180
Chapter 176: Chapter 176 – I can’t wait to see her end
Zayla swallowed a lump in her throat, trying to understand what was happening.
Was her father the reason why Robin’s behavior changed towards her? She could not understand Robin’s request especially when her mother had given up on her and her father was all she had.
She loved Robin but she also loved her father. He was the only one who understood her.
Lost in thoughts, Robin saw her reluctance and mocked himself internally for how foolish he had been.
How could he not see even if he did not know the truth about the donor?
Sabrina left everything for him. All she wanted was his happiness but he threw it all away for a lie.
Robin felt vile as he skimmed at Zayla standing in front of him.
This plan of his was not going to work because Zayla was not ready to choose him over her father when Robin chose her over Sabrina.
"I understand that you love your father very much, even more than me." He hinted at the even more than me part and saw guilt flash in her eyes.
He continued to speak indifferently, "I just thought that just as Sabrina left everything for me, you would be able to do the same, especially when you already told me that you gave me one of your kidneys."
Robin was very selective of his words, not speaking with certainty, it made Zayla feel trapped in her lies.
If she indeed loved him as she claimed, then it should not be hard for her to let go of everything for him but what about Robin, would he leave his ex-wife for her?
At the thought of Sabrina, Zayla was embittered once again but since she had still not found a way to get the diamonds, she began to think fast to not make it seem as if that was indeed all she was interested in.
"Robin, my father is in police custody. He needs me now more than you do. You already have Sabrina."
She intentionally mentioned Sabrina to lift the guilt from her chest since Robin would not deny her for the fact that she was carrying his child.
It was as if Robin was waiting for her to make the comparison between herself and Sabrina, and already had a ready answer for her,
"Sabrina never went to visit any of her family when we lived together. I was all she cared about. Whether any member of her family was sick or even on the verge of death, she only cared about me. Can you do the same?"
Robin was extremely calm, surprised by how he was able to hold in the bitterness he felt to make it seem as if he held nothing against her but gratitude.
"Yes. I am going back to the penthouse. Will you be home today?" Zayla said and asked, which meant that she had taken her decision, choosing Robin and not going to see her father anymore.
She would not be able to bail him out anyway since she did not have the money.
Also, if she made Robin happy, who knows, he might just increase her wages. Putting all these together, she felt like she made the right decision.
Robin smiled. Now he would see the person who would bail out the old fox.
"There is so much to be done so I’m not sure. Anyway, I have a surprise for you so I will come over to give it to you."
Hearing about a surprise, Zayla was happy. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ears.
"Okay. Take care, Robin."
When Robin went to pick Sabrina up that evening, he had dinner at her mansion and took her for a thirty-minute walk.
Sabrina did not like his presence, refusing to speak to him but Robin did not mind.
She was worth his patience since he was the cause of the pain she was going through.
On his way back to the office, he received a call from Daniel.
"Robin, I got the fake diamonds. Can you believe I had to pay 30k for them?"
Daniel could not understand the reason why a fake should be so expensive but remembering the content of the letter that stated that the cost of the original amounted to trillions, maybe it was worth it.
"Good. I already promised Zayla that I have a surprise for her and the note is ready too. I will transfer the money to you," Robin smiled and spoke.
Once he can clear the conception of any existing diamonds, he could go ahead with his plans.
"I can’t wait to see her end. Forget the money for as long as it’s meant to bring the bitch down," Daniel chuckled from the end of the line.
The corner of Robin’s lips twitched. "That would be on Sabrina’s birthday."
He hoped to win her love before then but if not, then he would still have no choice but to let her know that he knew the truth about her anonymous donation.
"Don’t you have any plans for Sabrina?" Daniel asked in amusement. Robin smiled at the mention of his plans for Sabrina.
"A lot. I’m driving to your house to get the fake diamonds."
"Alright, see you."
Robin drove to the office to pick up the letter before going to Daniel’s penthouse to pick up the fake diamonds.
With a smile, he drove to his penthouse. Zayla was excited that he came and after just two days without the cleaners coming to clean the penthouse, Zayla looked as if she had been overworked.
Robin did not care about the state of the house because as soon as he was through with his revenge, he planned on refurbishing and selling it.
He did not want to carry the memory of a house he once shared with an evil woman like Zayla.
"Robin, you came," Zayla smiled for the first time since yesterday. She was also careful to not get too close to him because of his recent mood swings.
Chapter 177: Chapter 177 - Dad, I have the diamonds
"I will be going back so sit down," Robin said emotionlessly while taking a seat on the sofa.
Zayla sat on the opposite one and looked at him expectantly since he said that he had a surprise for her.
He was holding a small pack and she wondered what was in there.
All she wanted was for him to propose to her. Robin began to explain, to make it real since Kennedy knew about the history of the diamonds.
"The last time you mentioned the villa, I decided to go and look for the diamonds you mentioned."
Zayla froze. When Robin did not react, she thought that he did not take it seriously, especially when she made it seem as if she was speaking out of duress.
Robin saw how she paled but pretended like he hadn’t seen it.
"Did you find it?" She found the courage to ask, hoping that he’d say no. Then she could confirm that she did not mean it when she mentioned it.
Without laying hands on those diamonds, Zayla was doomed since Robin had already reduced the amount for her daily expenditure.
"Yes."
Zayla felt like her world had shut down when Robin continued to say,
"There were indeed pieces of crystal-clear diamonds but my father also added a note to it. Here, read it aloud."
He gave the note to Zayla, who took it with shaky hands and began to read it slowly.
"Robin, by the time you find this, I will be gone. I did not have the time to tell you about it because of your ceaseless affairs with different women."
Zayla paused and swallowed her saliva before she continued reading the note, feeling that the old man was going to reveal the real donor of the kidney.
Her voice began to shake together with her hand holding the paper.
"Are you okay?" Robin asked with the same emotionless glint.
Zayla nodded her head and proceeded to read the letter, lest he took it from her before she could finish it.
"This is a family treasure but I don’t think it’s worth your life. Give it to the woman who saved your life. She loves you more than anything in the world."
Zayla took a deep breath and breathed out after reading the letter, glad that the name of the woman was not mentioned, which meant that she could still play along without being caught.
Robin was careful to not show the slightest hint that he saw the changes in her expression when he brought out the bottle which looked like the original one with the fake diamonds which also looked like the originals.
Zayla’s eyes lit instantly and she felt like her world got brighter. She was thanking her stars that the late old stupid man did not mention a name. If not, she would have been facing Robin’s wrath by now.
"Zayla, I wish to thank you for saving my life."
Robin’s words cut through her thoughts before her attention returned to him again.
She could not wait to get the diamonds to her father for his business to jolt back to life again.
The content of the letter only boosted her confidence and the content of the bottle gave her life, her whole appearance was radiating with joy.
"This is your reward, and take good care of our child," Robin forced himself to speak softly whiles he dropped the bottle on the center table.
Zayla picked it up instantly, forgetting her pretense and pouring the content on the glass center table.
She began counting them right there and then, Robin shook his head with disgust.
He could not wait to see what happens when she realizes that what she has is fake.
Robin was already headed to the door when Zayla stopped counting the pieces of diamonds and asked him,
"Robin, can I see my father tomorrow? Somebody already bailed him out."
Robin stiffened a little, not knowing that Kennedy had such strong connections for somebody to have bailed him out so quickly.
Robin expected him to sleep there for at least a few days but whoever bailed him out, was now an object of Robin’s curiosity.
"That is good news. See, you were not even needed. You should be taking good care of yourself and our unborn child."
Zayla tried to compose herself at Robin’s words, still feeling like he would not allow her to see her father but if that be the case, then what would she do with the diamonds, if she remained in the house?
She was about to repeat her question when Robin spoke, "But I’m just curious. Who bailed him?"
Zayla opened her mouth and clamped it shut again. Revealing the person’s identity would bring her problems but she also remembered that the person had used a different name.
Still, she could not bring herself to reveal it in case Robin began to investigate it.
"He did not say. The point is, I did not ask. I was just happy that he got out."
"Then you can go and see him but don’t spend more than three hours."
Robin knew that she was going to give the fake diamonds to her father, for which reason he allowed it.
Knowing Ken, seeing the diamonds alone would cause him to use whatever money he had before realizing that they were not real.
Robin, could not wait. As he walked through the door, Zayla returned to counting the diamonds while she said behind him,
"Thank you, Robin, I love you very much."
Robin’s eyes darkened but he did not respond. As soon as Zayla finished counting the diamonds and confirmed that they were indeed two hundred pieces like her father had said, she picked up her phone and dialed his number, regretting not telling Robin about it earlier.
How could she have known that a miracle would happen in the form of a note that would tell Robin to give the diamonds to his savior?
"Zayla, after neglecting your father, you are calling now? What is it this time?" Kennedy sounded annoyed but his voice changed the moment Zayla responded by saying,
"Dad, I have the diamonds."
Chapter 178: Chapter 178 – Yolanda Thomas is Mara Sula
"Zayla, are you sure about what you are saying?"
Kennedy could not believe his ears. If this was a joke, he was not in the mood for it. Zayla knew he’d be surprised and said to him,
"I already sent you a picture on WhatsApp."
The line went silent for a while and Zayla knew he was checking his phone to see if it was true.
"It’s true and that is the original bottle but how did you get it?"
Kennedy was so amazed, he wanted to pull the bottle out of his phone. Zayla never heard such a level of joy in her father’s voice before and explained,
"Robin gave it to me because he thinks I’m the one who saved his life. His father left a letter saying that it should be given to the woman who saved his life."
"Can you send me a snapshot of the letter too?" Kennedy asked.
He wanted to be sure it was indeed in the handwriting of his old friend, Ronald.
Zayla lowered her phone, took a shot, and sent it to him. Excitement brewed in his heart.
"So, Ronald kept the diamonds for Sabrina. Zayla, we have to leave as soon as we sell it. If Robin finds out that you are not the one who saved his life, he will kill you."
Kennedy was no longer ready to compromise his daughter’s life. He had to let her know that they were treading on dangerous grounds. The diamonds were enough for them.
If Zayla had gotten the diamonds without Robin knowing that they existed, then it would be fine but since he gave them to her for the wrong reason, Kennedy felt that things would turn bloody if Sabrina got fed up and told Robin that she saved his life but Zayla was bent on clearing their reputation.
"Dad, please pay up the investors first. The news surrounding our family is not great."
She felt ashamed to be called a Chance because of her father being blacklisted on the business front due to the debts he owed.
Kennedy did not agree but since he did not have the diamonds in his hands, he said to her,
"Okay but how can I get the diamonds from you?"
As soon as he sells the diamonds, he would lure her into a private jet and leave the soil of New York City before Robin finds out the truth.
"I will bring it in the morning. I only wanted you to know so you can relax," Zayla smiled, glad that things fell into place for her once again.
She no longer needed the villa. Sabrina could have it.
"Okay, make it early in the morning," Kennedy said seriously. The wait was a killer, heightening his fears.
The next day early in the morning, Zayla left the penthouse with the diamonds and a letter to her father’s apartment.
Robin had already left instructions, permitting her to only go and see her father but nothing else.
***
At Robin’s office, he just received pictures of Sabrina which he ordered to be printed and framed in portraits delivered to him.
While fixing them nicely in the small cozy bedroom walls in his office, he began thinking about the next phase of his revenge plans.
He missed Sabrina with every picture he looked at. Some were taken by the paparazzi and others by people he had paid to take the pictures secretly of them together.
Looking at them gave him hope and longing, to have her back in his arms again very soon.
He called Daniel before leaving the office. "Dan, please check with the people you planted around Kennedy. I want to know who bailed him from police custody."
"He is out?" Daniel asked with shock since Robin did not allow Zayla to go and offer her support. He was more convinced that Kennedy had strong backing.
"Yes, that is what Zayla said. I gave her the fake diamonds and I know she’ll be giving it to her father today. I’m waiting for her call."
Robin wanted to know if Kennedy would still suspect that the real diamonds still existed or accept that they were fake and forget about them.
That information could only be gotten from Zayla.
"Okay, let me check the information about the person who bailed Kennedy and call you back."
Robin was already on his way to Sabrina’s mansion when Daniel called back.
"Robin, the person goes by the name Yolanda Thomas but when I asked for a picture, guess who it was?"
"Mara?" Robin asked from his side of the line whilst driving.
Daniel shook his head from his side and exclaimed,
"Why are you so smart?"
"Because I suspected it. Bailing him the last time cost a lot of money so why would Mara spend so much on him?"
Robin asked, trying to understand the relationship between Mara and Kennedy. He also hoped that information about the diamonds did not reach Mara but then again, Kennedy was too selfish to tell somebody other than his daughter.
"Also, Robin, I was thinking of how she could still get his debtors away from him," Daniel pointed out and it got Robin wondering because bailing Kennedy out was one thing while sending his debtors away was another
.
"It only means one thing," Robin said with certainty, adding,
"Kennedy has been helping Mara in all her mischief. Have you got any information on her new name?"
"I tried to but nothing pops up under it," Daniel responded, Robin thought through the situation, with his hands on the steering wheel.
His phone speaker was connected to the dashboard so he was not distracted.
"So, Mara comes out in broad daylight. Let’s be on the lookout for her," Robin finally instructed.
If they could not track her movements, they could be on the physical lookout for her but Daniel had more to say,
"It won’t be easy because she disguises herself all the time. Only her eyes remain the same and I wonder why she doesn’t disguise them too."
Chapter 179: Chapter 179 - Dear one, I want you to know that I will never give up on you
Robin thought about Mara’s disguise, wondering if her brother knew about it from her public appearance, the fact that he was able to hide it very well from Sabrina.
Well, since Mara was making the mistake of showing her face in public, Robin was sure to use it to his advantage.
"Can you send a spy to Martin’s mansion? Have them pose as a maid or something. I have a feeling that Mara lives with him and we won’t require the hacker."
When Robin wants something, he would always find a way to get it. His only weakness was Sabrina and Daniel agreed that his words made a lot of sense.
"You have a point but I tried it before and they refused to employ the maid sent, saying there was no vacancy."
Robin went into deep thought again. He had the money and the only thing money could never buy was love. As for investigating Mara and bringing her to her knees for her several attempts on Sabrina’s life, Robin was not taking it kindly.
"Then have some of their maids kidnapped when they are off duty. We can pay them enough to relocate to a different country or state."
"When they run short of maids at the mansion, they would have no choice but to recruit more."
"If they are hiring from an agency, then we shall infiltrate the agency and make sure our spies are the ones sent to them."
Robin was leaving no stone unturned and Daniel was amazed.
"Robin, that is a smart idea but let me try it again. I could even have him or her plant a secret camera for me."
"Good."
Robin was about to end the call when Daniel thought to remind him so his time would not be disturbed tomorrow.
"I will work on it but I’m preparing for my date with Lizzy tomorrow."
Robin smiled. He wished that just like Daniel, he would have stopped all his affairs with women when he got married. He would not have been in the situation he was in now.
"All the best Dan, and please put in a word for me to Sabrina."
"I will."
As soon as Robin parked the car, he was about to alight to go and knock on the door when Sabrina stepped out of the mansion and began to walk towards him.
He could not tell whether he was late or she was just too early.
As he stepped out to open the door for her, his phone began to ring. Checking the caller ID, it was Zayla. Robin smirked but did not answer it, knowing she would come to the office.
His curiosity to know Kennedy’s thought was at its peak but Sabrina mattered to him most for the fact that she did not like his interaction with Zayla.
"Good morning, dear one, you look gorgeous," Robin greeted politely and opened the car door for her.
Sabrina rolled her eyes, wondering where from all the niceness.
Her ex-husband was showing her a different side of himself every day and she could not help wondering why.
"Good morning, Robin, can we go now?"
Sabrina did not like her time with him and was always eager to leave his side.
Robin knew it but felt that even the little time he spent with her was undeserved for which reason he was very much appreciative of it.
"What are your plans today? I can help you in any way you know?"
Robin was in a good mood because Sabrina was sitting by his side. Whilst he drove, he would cast frequent glances her way, admiring the beauty he threw away.
"Robin, I don’t need your help."
Sabrina had a way of killing whatever excitement registered on his face but this time around, Robin was ready for it and did not allow her sometimes harsh words to have any impact on his ambitions.
"I can even run errands for you," he smirked and winked, Sabrina shook her head, lost as to exactly what was happening to give him all this excitement.
Then again, a thought crossed her mind, "Wait, are you hitting on your ex-wife?"
Robin was shameless enough to not deny it. "I’m also a man and I will be the best candidate since we already have a child together," he smirked again.
Sabrina was grateful that she carried her cordless earpiece along for times like this.
She quickly plugged them into her ears and Robin shook his head, knowing she was ending the conversation.
Not until after they arrived at his office before Sabrina unplugged the earpieces from her ears. Robin did not immediately unlock the car door when they arrived but rather turned to face her, looking at her with honesty,
"Sabrina, I just want you to know that I’m sorry for everything I did to you and I wish you could give me the chance to correct it."
Sabrina laughed and shook her head. Robin was proud but was asking her for a second chance. Sadly, her mind had no room for him.
"Robin, forgiveness is mine to give but entering into whatever kind of relationship with you is not an option. If that is the reason why you keep coming here every day, then please stop."
Robin was not expecting her to accept it anyway. It was a start for him and he was happy to have conveyed his intentions.
He knew that even though she refused to take him back, it would still be on her mind and she would continue thinking about it.
"Dear one, I want you to know that I will never give up on you. Even on my dying bed, I will shout to the world that I want my ex-wife back."
Sabrina was not expecting this and she did not seem ready for him. Maybe, he would get fed up if he realizes how serious she is.
"Let’s see for how long you can keep this up. I am only tolerating your presence because of our unborn child."
When she was ready to step out, Robin was not satisfied. He wanted some form of intimacy and the only way was to use the one thing he had the right to.
"Can I touch it?"
Chapter 180: Chapter 180 – Zayla, the diamonds are fake
Robin’s right hand was already extended to touch her bump but Sabrina hit it in annoyance,
"Not today."
She never liked the way it made her feel when his hand came into contact with any part of her body but it also gave Robin an assuring hope.
"Please. You refused to come back to me so it’s the only way. I see it has grown a little bigger and I’m having hopes of us having twins."
Sabrina wanted to gag for his annoying observation and expectation. Besides, she was not ready to open her blazer.
"You can touch it tomorrow. Not today."
The corner of Robin’s lips curled up, as he observed the way her hand shivered when she hit him. The only reason she was avoiding his touch was,
"If you don’t feel anything for me anymore, then it should not worry you for as much as I touch it right?"
Sabrina smiled bitterly and allowed her anger to vent on him.
"Robin, the saying is true that true love never dies. In my heart, I still love you but following my heart in the past brought me nothing but pain and shame."
Robin’s gaze lowered. He could not behold her pain and knew that he had a long way to go if he had to give her a reason to trust him with her heart again.
Sabrina was shaking and balled her hands into fists to calm herself. "My head has never disappointed me and what it tells me is what I am telling you. There can never be anything between us ever again."
A tear fell from her reddened eyes and Robin inadvertently made a move to wipe it but she pushed his hand away,
"Don’t. Just unlock the door."
Robin obeyed. It was not his intention but he caused her pain and the least he could do was to allow her to be on her own, though he wanted to be there to comfort her, and promise her that this time, things would be different.
As soon as the door unlocked, she left before he could perform his gentlemanly duties. Robin’s fingers dug into his palm and his anger boiled towards Zayla, whilst he drove back to the office.
Indeed, she was there waiting for him with a pitiful expression and tears in her eyes.
Robin was upset because of the state in which he left Sabrina and walked past Zayla as if he had not seen her. Zayla followed him to the office and without waiting for him to sit, began to rant.
"Robin, I gave the diamonds to my father but he came back saying they were fake."
***
Earlier.
"Dad, I’m here," Zayla called out happily to her father, who met her in the living room of his apartment.
"Zayla, I was waiting for you."
Kennedy was already dressed up and ready to step out when Zayla walked in. She opened her handbag and brought out the bottle with the letter.
"Here Dad, I will wait here for you."
She went to check her father’s fridge to see if he had something edible since Mara had left him with some money after bailing him from police custody.
Zayla never enjoyed a good meal in the penthouse anymore since Robin stopped the chef and cleaners.
The hundred dollars was not enough to order the kind of food she wanted so she would buy groceries from the nearest grocery stores and make whatever she could with help from the internet.
When Robin gave her the diamonds, she was beginning to feel that it was all worth it now.
Kennedy intended to take her to the airport as soon as the money was transferred into his account and refused for her to stay behind, saying,
"Zayla, you should come with me."
Zayla shook her head. She felt like a prisoner in a luxurious penthouse.
"The driver would not allow me. Robin instructed him to only bring me here and nowhere else."
Kennedy was furious and thought of ways to teach Robin a lesson after he laid hands on the money from the sale of the diamonds.
He might not be here but there were still people he could use to fight against him.
"Are you, his prisoner?"
Zayla pursed her lips, not understanding Robin’s sudden changes from hot to cold.
"It’s Because he thinks I’m carrying his child."
Kennedy thought of another plan. It was just the driver but he could guess that that thug from the last time might still be around.
If he could get ten thugs, not the driver and his one thug would be able to stop him from taking Zayla away before Robin arrives.
"Alright, keep your phone line open. I will call you as soon as I get the money."
"Okay."
Kennedy left alone and Zayla waited and waited, but did not receive any call. Soon, her father returned, looking miserable.
"Dad, what is the problem?"
Kennedy went to the fridge and poured himself a glass of water. The shock and regret were so much that he could not utter a word until he gulped down a full bottle of water
"Zayla, the diamonds are fake."
"What? But that is what was in the villa."
Zayla’s eyes were already blurring out and she quickly sat back on the couch to stabilize herself. The diamonds were their only hope and now that they got them, they were fake?
"I know. I remember that Ronald sold some at a time when he was not doing well. That was what he used to start the Jewel Company Ltd, now Jewel Group."
Zayla was lost, not understanding what her father meant by referring to Robin’s father.
"If he did, then why do we still have this?"
Kennedy had stalked Ronald for long, knowing all his movements concerning the diamonds. As such, he attributed it to the time Robin’s father sold a part of it and bought it back.
It was the only reasonable explanation he could get since he knew that Robin did not know about it.
"After he made money from the company, he took the original diamonds to go and buy back the ones he sold. I think he was duped."
Zayla shook her head, as confusion clouded it once more.
"I don’t understand."
Kennedy explained slowly this time, "My old friend was duped. They took the originals and gave him fake diamonds together with the old ones he purchased back."
Zayla was beginning to feel dizzy and hot but then again, "How did you know?"
"Because I was spying on him. I can’t believe that I killed his wife for nothing..."
