Ch. 181..185: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 181-185
Chapter 181: Chapter 181 – Your father knew my father?
"Because I was spying on him. I can’t believe that I killed his wife for nothing."
Kennedy felt terrible and was almost in tears, recalling the actions of his past but Zayla was so shocked at her father’s confession, she felt like she was seeing a stranger.
Her heart was heavy and tears flowed freely from her eyes,
"You killed Robin’s mother?"
Kennedy sat on the couch, loosened his tie, removed, and threw it to the side. He looked as if all his energy was drained and he had nothing inside of him.
Regret filled his chest at his last argument with Ronald before he was cut off from the Jewels.
Since he could not get close enough to lay hands on the diamonds, Zayla became his last option.
It was easy because Zayla was already in love with Robin but could not get close to him.
She had to befriend Sabrina since she was loved by Ronald. If not for that, she would never have been allowed into the old mansion to even see Robin.
Kennedy began to confess everything to his daughter since she was the only one he could trust with this.
"Robin’s mother was a very intelligent woman. She was the only one who caught through my actions every time I went close to the diamonds."
"Me and Roland used to be very good friends, he told me a lot of things about how he made it. It was the day he went to buy back the diamonds. I had seen him but he didn’t know I was watching him."
"I thought he wouldn’t tell me but when I asked him, he was honest and told me everything about it including how it saved his business."
"He also said it was a family treasure passed down but he couldn’t allow himself to die poor when he had such a fortune for which reason, he sold some of it."
"Sadly, the memory haunted him for a long time so he decided to buy it back to pass down to his grandchildren. He spent more to buy it back for which reason he could not move the company to the level it is now."
"I tried every means to get it and the day I almost did, Robin’s mother saw me. I hated her since then and also realized that for as long as she lived, I would not be able to lay hands on it so I paid someone to poison her coffee slowly. A few months later, she died without a trace of what I..."
"Dad, you are so evil."
Zayla’s cold words cut through her father’s confession, as a pool of tears fell from her eyes. How would she face Robin after this knowledge, especially when she wasn’t pregnant and was not the one who saved his life?
She was already in a deep shit but with this confession, she felt she was a dead woman walking should Robin find out.
"I did it for you."
Kennedy was able to hold back his tears cos if things had succeeded and the diamonds were real, his life and that of his daughter would have indeed been changed by it but Zayla was upset and yelled,
"I didn’t want you killing people for me. You’ve ruined my life. You’ve ruined my chances with Robin."
"But he doesn’t know," her father pointed out. There was no proof.
"What if he finds out? Do you think he would let me live when my father killed his beloved mother?" Zayla raged tearfully.
Sabrina thought that Zayla met Robin after meeting her but how wrong she was. Her father had already shown her pictures of Robin and she had seen him from a distance a few times.
She just could not go near him because Robin’s father hated hers.
When she became Sabrina’s friend, the doors to the Jewels automatically opened to her.
"That is why he doesn’t know and you don’t have to tell him. Now here is the thing. We have nothing now. The villa was our only hope because of the diamonds and since they are fake, we have to go to Florida to join your mother."
Zayla was shaking her head, hating the idea. "I don’t want to leave Robin. I love him."
Kennedy was helpless and also becoming upset, he equally yelled back at her,
"Then you will die because he will never love you. He did not even allow you to come and see me at the police station because all he cares about is his image and the fake baby in your womb. You think he cares about you?"
"How do we survive?" Zayla asked helplessly since they had nothing but Kennedy always had a plan.
"Now this is the last thing you have to do. You have to get some money from Robin. A million or more. Forge a lie or something or tell him to give it as compensation for saving his life."
"Then we can escape before he finds out the truth. There is nothing here for us."
For the first time, Zayla had to agree with her father and sacrifice whatever love she felt for Robin. She was treading on dangerous grounds and knew she had to escape.
"I will try. Let me first tell him that the diamonds are fake."
Kennedy smiled, happy that she agreed. Zayla dialed Robin’s number but again, he was not answering his phone.
"Dad, I will just go to his office." She picked up her handbag and was already at the door.
"Please try, okay? We should have listened to your mother. I wish my old friend had known that he had been duped. He would have found a way to recover the real diamonds but time has passed and it’s too late."
"It’s alright. I will see you later."
Zayla continuously dialed Robin’s number throughout the drive to his office with no response from him and when she got there, Aria said to her,
"Mr. Jewel is not in the office. You can wait here."
Zayla obediently sat at the reception for almost thirty minutes before Robin arrived and she followed him to his office.
"Robin, I gave the diamonds to my father. He said they are fake."
Robin pretended to not know, just so he could get the information he needed.
"It’s not possible. My father would not have left it for my savior."
Indirectly, he was accusing her of lying or someone exchanging them. To prove that she was in the right, Zayla stupidly revealed.
"My father said that your father didn’t know he was duped and if he was alive, he would have found a way to recover the real diamonds."
"Your father knew my father?"
Robin pretended once again to not know, trapping her in his web after getting the information he needed.
Chapter 182: Chapter 182 – Get out, Zayla
Zayla bit her lower lip so hard, it almost drew blood. With Robin’s hawklike glare on her, her mind blanked.
She was internally rebuking herself for once again speaking without thinking.
"How did your father know my father?"
Robin rephrased the question due to her inability to answer the first one which meant yes.
Robin would have been very surprised if he did not know already but he still faked being astonished.
All along, he was dining with a snake but so was he counting her days.
The day Sabrina celebrates her twenty-sixth birthday, Robin was sure to take Zayla and her father’s lives as a memorial of the end of all the pain and suffering he caused Sabrina.
While at it, he would ensure that she suffers worse things than Sabrina ever did during their three years of marriage.
As always, Zayla would find a lie to save herself. Her gaze lowered and she fidgeted with her fingers,
"Robin, I didn’t say that my father knew your father. He was just guessing because I showed the note to him."
Robin was amazed by the smoothness of her lie. He would not have known if he was not a step ahead of her.
Better still, he would rather end it there before she got a heads up of his plans towards her.
"Then you should know how to phrase your sentences next time. I’m busy."
He began to scrutinize a pile of documents in front of him which was his way of telling her to get out but Zayla could not.
She felt that he believed her lie, for which reason she dared to move to the next stage of her plans.
"Robin please, my father needs help."
Robin did not bat an eyelash and neither did he stop what he was doing. It did not distract him since he did not give her his attention.
When he responded, his voice was icy and his gaze dark.
"Zayla, your father is not my responsibility."
Zayla swallowed tightly. One minute, he was thanking her for saving his life and the next minute, he was back to treating her like trash.
Zayla wondered for how long Sabrina had to endure such an unpredictable man.
"My mother is not well and she’s in Florida. My father wants me to come with him to go visit her and we’ll need some money too."
Robin let out a humorless chuckle, as he figured out that the father and daughter were trying to run away.
Over his dead body would he allow them to escape from his clutches.
"You can go to Florida after giving birth to my child."
With an empty stomach, Zayla was beginning to regret this whole fake pregnancy thing. It was the reason why he would not let her leave his side.
It was also the basis for which he’ll make her clean the penthouse and cook her meals when he could pay people to do them for her.
She wondered for how long she had to endure it and also knew that she had to find a way to escape, as she began to accept the fact that Robin did not love her as he said before.
If not, how could he be treating her like this?
He was never one who was stingy with money so why make her feel bad or guilty to even ask for it?
"Robin please, my mother needs me."
Robin remembered Grandma telling him that Zayla’s mother was the only honest person.
Also, she was not related by blood to Kennedy and Zayla was the one who decided to be in cahoots with her father.
In this case, Robin would not let an innocent woman suffer for the wrong of others. If she was indeed sick, then he would not mind helping but not the way Zayla would want.
"Give me her address in Florida. I will send somebody over to take care of her."
Zayla paled and Robin already guessed that her mother was not sick which meant she was just trying to find a means to run away with her father.
"My father can take care of her if you give a million."
"A what?"
Robin’s gaze darkened and he asked coldly, Zayla shivered, fearing that he would not give because the money was too much and reduced the amount, her heart race increasing all through.
"Half a million."
Robin glared at her with disgust and asked in a mocking tone, making her afraid.
Robin was never this cold to her before and she could not understand what was happening.
"You need half a million for your father?"
"Yes." She shamelessly nodded her head.
Robin confirmed that indeed, she wanted to run away but not under his watch.
"I will add it to my budget and you can have two million in a month."
By then, she would be dead, for which reason he termed it so but Zayla was uneasy.
A lot could happen in a month, especially when Robin has become so unpredictable.
He could even change his mind so since she had the opportunity now, she was not going to let it pass her by.
"Robin please, a month is too much."
Robin’s brows creased, as disgust and impatience flashed in his eyes, trying to not make her suspicious of his plans. He asked seriously,
"What if your father goes and doesn’t return? Won’t his debtors come and give you trouble? I’ve changed my mind. He should stay and sort out his debtors first."
Robin pretended to be busy but he was watching her. Everything about her shone pretense and viciousness but he saw himself as the greater fool for not seeing it before.
How did he even allow her into his life in the first place? Robin could not piece it all together but he was enjoying the misery covering her vile countenance.
Zayla was finding it hard to digest what Robin just said. How would her father sort out all those investors when he did not have any money? She had to explain.
Maybe Robin did not understand.
"Ro..."
"Get out, Zayla!" Robin cut her off with a roar.
Chapter 183: Chapter 183 - The earlier we leave, the better
Zayla stood up but her knees shook. At the same time, Robin picked up his intercom.
"Aria, to my office now."
Zayla thought he was going to assign Aria some tasks so she was waiting for her to leave, so she could continue to beg him, only to hear Robin say to Aria when she got there,
"Get her out of my office and next time, inform me ahead when she comes to look for me. If I don’t agree, don’t let her stay."
It was not only Zayla this time but even Aria was equally shocked though she never liked Zayla. She also knew that Zayla was pregnant for the boss because Zayla had said so during one of the days she came to meet Robin’s absence.
This was both shameful and embarrassing, Zayla could not take it. She no longer had the right to come to Robin’s office without his permission when he would hardly pick up her calls so how on earth was she supposed to see him when he never slept in the penthouse for almost a week now?
"Robin!"
Robin was greatly annoyed for whatever reason he could not understand.
It was there from the onset but after holding it in to get the information he wanted, it was now struggling to burst out and he could not hold it in anymore.
If Zayla stayed there for even another minute, he would just put a bullet in her head and ruin everything.
"Aria, do you want to lose your job?"
Robin realized that he should have rather called security but it would take them a while to get her.
Aria was right next to his door and for some reason, Robin abhorred Zayla so much, he could not bring himself to even hold and drag her out of his office.
"Miss Chance please, you should come with me."
Aria did not know what was going on and could not show her dislike for Zayla in front of her boss.
What if it was just a love fight? What would become of her if they got back together again?
"Robin, I saved your life and I’m also pregnant for you," Zayla yelled, using her last card to play on his conscience which should have worked before but not now.
Even though she got Robin’s attention as he was waiting for her to use that lame excuse, it was not what she was thinking to get out of it.
"And you want compensation for saving my life or the pregnancy?" He asked sarcastically.
Zayla had no shame anymore and from the way things had turned out, she had to agree with her father that she was treading on dangerous grounds.
If Robin could treat her like this when he thought she saved his life and was also pregnant for her, then what would he do if found out the truth?
Zayla had not only taken a decision but also made a choice. She was ready to leave but the only thing holding her back was the lack of money.
"Both."
Robin nodded his head since she was no longer pretending to care but showing him her real character. He played along as well,
"You will have 5 million in a month. Now get out!"
Five million was unexpected and Zayla was happy but in a month’s time? That was too much.
She could not wait for that long. She knew that Robin had the money and was still wondering the reason why he would not give her at once.
"Robin."
Robin glared at Aria since he had nothing more to say. Aria cowered under his heated gaze and held Zayla by the arm,
"Miss Chance, please be a lady."
Zayla shoved her hand away as if her touch disgusted her, "don’t touch me."
"I will have to call security, Miss Chance," Aria threatened since she did not know how to use violence and Zayla was proving stubborn.
However, hearing security, Zayla did not want further embarrassment as her eyes were already red.
She had blinked back the tears severally but if she stayed any longer, they might just fall and she knew that even that, would not move Robin.
She stormed out of the office running through the reception area to the elevator.
The shame was unbearable and she wanted to remove the ring he bought for her but then again, she thought against that option.
In the car, she called her father on the phone and as soon as it connected, she began to rumble even without hearing his voice,
"Dad, he promised to give me five million..."
Kennedy was joyous and did not allow her to finish talking before he cut in,
"Great. I will arrange for..."
"Dad, I haven’t finished," Zayla took back control of the conversation since she did not want to build fall hopes.
Her father thought it was because she felt that the money was not enough and continued to speak,
"Five million is more than enough. You don’t have to feel..."
"It will also be ready in a month," Zayla cut in again, this time crushing his hopes.
Kennedy felt lifeless for a moment before the shock registered in his tone,
"What?"
Mara had only bailed him without making any payment arrangements with his investors so he was still on his own.
"He says he has to budget for it and he had his secretary send me out. Dad, he thinks I’m a gold-digger," Zayla broke down at the last part but without the money, her father did not waste his time to comfort her with calming words, rather saying,
"It doesn’t matter if you are a gold digger as long as you get what you want but a month is too much."
"That is the problem," Zayla sobbed, suddenly feeling scared.
Kennedy thought for a while, hating himself for being so helpless in a situation like this.
He was beginning to chastise himself for not being prudent enough with his company because of the diamonds he had eyes on, which turned out to be fake.
"We just have to try and survive till then but let me see if I can help Mara with anything to get some money. The earlier we leave, the better."
Chapter 184: Chapter 184 - Grandma, I want her back but I know it won’t be easy
At Robin’s office, he called Daniel on the phone.
"Dan, it’s done. He believes that my father was duped."
Daniel was excited that the issue of the diamond was finally resolved.
Robin could move to the next step and also focus on more important things in his revenge plan against the bitch and he-goat of a father.
"That is good news. It means the real diamonds are safe."
Robin was suddenly angry again, not towards Daniel but at Kennedy trying to run away with his daughter.
"But he is trying to leave the city and sent Zayla to ask me for money. I gave her a month."
Daniel frowned at the end of the line, not knowing if Zayla should be kept alive for that long since she was nothing but trouble.
"You intend to keep her alive for a month?"
"How else will I get her to the party?" Robin asked helplessly.
He had wanted to proceed to the final stage but how then would he restore Sabrina’s honor?
She was ridiculed because of the things Zayla said about her on air.
Even Zayla’s fake pregnancy makes it look as if Sabrina and Robin’s divorce was because she could not bear him a child.
"Won’t her presence get Sabrina upset?" Daniel was worried because if Sabrina got angry, it could affect his relationship with Lizzy too.
As such, he had two reasons why he had to make sure that Robin did not make any mistakes this time.
"Not after I finish with her and her father but I feel they would seek help from Mara. Monitor his every move. If Mara appears, have her followed while working on the maids?"
Robin would not rest until Mara was down. For all her crimes against Sabrina and Matilda, she had to pay with her life, just like Kennedy and Zayla.
"No problem but Robin, will it be okay if I initiate a first kiss on our second date?" Daniel asked nervously.
He has been thinking about it but was not finding a solution, thereby asking Robin, though feeling like he wouldn’t be of much help.
"I can’t give you relationship advice, Daniel. I’m yet to even learn how to cook to make Sabrina happy," Robin said honestly and helplessly, wishing there was a way for him to help Daniel out.
Perhaps instead of paying to fuck women before, they should have rather been taking classes on how to make a woman happy or impress them.
"I wish I could have someone advise me. I don’t want to mess things up."
Daniel was worried especially because of Devin. The guy was crazy and most probably waiting for Daniel and Lizzy’s relationship to hit the rocks.
"Maybe you should study her body language. It can be your guide."
Daniel paused. Maybe Robin was right. Women had ways of showing if and when they needed something.
"I will try that."
When Robin pressed the end button, he suddenly recalled his grandmother, realizing that he had not called her ever since he returned the key. He instantly dialed her number.
"Robin, is there a problem?"
Cecilia was surprised to see his call. After all, Robin never called her unless he needed something.
"No, grandma. I was just calling to check on you. How is your health?"
Cecilia was joyful for his thoughtfulness of her for once.
"I have been exercising and taking my multivitamins so I should be fine," she smiled and spoke.
Hearing vitamins, Robin wondered why he never knew about it before.
"I will send you more vitamins."
"I won’t reject anything from you but Sabrina has been buying all the ones a take. She promised to come and visit and I hope she hasn’t forgotten."
Cecilia missed Sabrina so much. Due to her good heart, she just lights up everywhere around her.
"I will remind her on your behalf," Robin said.
He could not allow himself to be pushed aside in the women’s world and just had to be a part of it.
Robin did not care whether he was accepted or not but even if he was just tolerated, it was enough for him.
Since Cecilia knew that he found out the truth, she also felt he would be trying to correct his wrongs and amend his ways.
"Robin, I hope you are not thinking of getting back with her. You seem to know more about her than you did when married," the old woman discerned, Robin felt guilty but could not drown in it.
It was time to bounce back and claim everything that he felt was rightfully his before, discarding the ones that were nothing but trash.
"Grandma, I want her back but I know it won’t be easy."
Cecilia was happy about his resolve but also sad because she knew Sabrina very well.
Once she closes a door, she would never open it again no matter what.
Robin screwed up and she did not see a way of him making it up to Sabrina.
"Since you already know that, I have nothing more to say."
Robin smiled, happy that she did not continue to discourage him.
"I will bring your vitamins when I come to visit."
"Sabrina will get them for me when she’s coming," the old woman said, not wanting Robin’s generosity to stop Sabrina from coming to see her since Sabrina always brought the vitamins herself.
"Grandma, am I not your grandson too?"
Robin was saddened that she would take anything from Sabrina and not him. Cecilia sighed and said,
"I will see you on Saturday and I hope you come with Sabrina."
"Wish me luck," Robin forced a smile and spoke.
"Well then, good luck," Cecilia said with a smile and ended the call.
That evening when Robin went to pick up Sabrina from her office, he was saddened that her mood was still sore, blaming himself for it.
As soon as she sat at the passenger side and he went to sit in the driver’s side after opening and closing her door, he said to her with remorse,
"Sabrina, I’m sorry for this morning."
Chapter 185: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 185 – Friends
Sabrina did not spare him a glance even after he rendered the apology.
She knew he did not regret saying those things to her this morning, which got her upset.
Trying to co-parent was not easy for her but she was trying her best to go through with it, not expecting him to take advantage of the situation, and not when he had another pregnant woman at home.
Sabrina felt disrespected that Robin thought so lowly of her, for which reason she could not accept his apology.
"Just take me home please."
Robin obeyed. This was more difficult for him than managing a corporation because, in that aspect, all he had to do was order people around or guide them to do what he wanted.
Whereas in this situation, he felt helpless and powerless.
The greater pain was in sitting next to her and not being able to strike up a conversation.
The understanding was slowly settling in that he moved too fast when he hadn’t done anything tangible to prove to her that he had changed.
He was also afraid that after spilling everything on her birthday, she would think that he thought he was in love with her because she saved his life.
The situation was puzzling and the silence was a greater killer.
He decided to break it but just as he was about to speak, Sabrina lifted her hand and stopped him,
"Please don’t talk when you come around."
Pain seared through Robin’s chest as if he was slashed by a knife, and was soon aggravated with guilt.
It was the discernment of what Sabrina felt for the three years he treated her badly. It was so wrong.
Even if he was doing it as revenge for being forced into the marriage, he felt that there were things he shouldn’t have done.
"I’m begging you. I overstepped my boundaries and it won’t happen again."
Sabrina raised her brows; it almost went unnoticed. If he promised to not disrespect her by trying to hit on her again, then there was a possibility of co-parenting peacefully.
"I will hold you to that promise."
Her words were like calming waters, lifting the weight off his shoulders.
Robin knew that he lost a great treasure but he was not going to let go, even though he felt hurt by the relief in her eyes when he promised to not hit on her again.
There are many ways to do it without saying it and he would do just that until the time was right to take the bull by the horn again.
Robin lacked experience but this also seemed to be the training he needed.
"And I won’t break it so how was your day?" He asked with relief, Sabrina released a breath of tiredness,
"Stressful."
"Care to share?" Robin discerned that there was a problem and was willing to help, even if all it took was giving her a listening ear.
"Difficult clients rejecting pieces of jewelry and calling them low standard. Robin, those pieces of jewelry are not low standard. I confirmed every design and personally chose the stones too."
Robin was worried because of her situation, even when he knew she could handle it.
He never heard so much frustration in her voice as he did today.
She was pregnant and he did not want her to stress out with business.
He already knew that she would not agree if he wanted to support her with the management, for which reason he wanted to be there for her in every way to help her every step of the way.
"Can you give me the name of the client?"
Sabrina opened her mouth but closed it again. If she mentioned it, then Robin might do her job for her and she did not want that.
This was her responsibility and she wanted to prove to herself that she could handle all the challenges that came her way.
"I don’t want to think about it. It gives me a headache."
Robin knew that she didn’t want him involved and felt saddened but suggested,
"If it persists until after next week, I could help. No strings attached, please. Co–parenting doesn’t mean we can’t be friends, right?"
Sabrina frowned deeply and massaged her nape, feeling like Robin was just changing tactics.
"What kind of friendship?" She asked seriously.
Robin smiled bitterly. Sabrina was too smart to toil with. She was no longer the woman who used to do everything he wanted just to please him.
"The kind who would always be there for you. I understand your stand that you don’t want me anymore so all I ask is for us to be open-minded friends."
Sabrina chuckled, but there was no amusement to it while she asked him,
"You will never try to hit on me again?"
Robin shook his head,
"No. Unless you permit me."
The car came to a stop before Sabrina looked around and realized that they had arrived at her house.
She did not want to be at loggerheads with Robin because of the future of their unborn child.
"Okay. Friends and if the problem persists after next week, I will seek your help."
Robin smiled and his chest felt lighter.
"I will be glad to be of assistance so when do you intend to visit Grandma? I will be going there on Saturday."
He took advantage of the conversation and asked, guilt flashed in Sabrina’s eyes because she had forgotten her promise to the old woman.
"I promised her a visit but I got busy."
"If it’s not too much, we could go together and also stop by the villa. You promised to tell me about my father’s clothes," Robin tried his luck again.
Sabrina thought through everything. She did not have much to do over the weekend.
"Okay, Saturday."
Robin’s smile broadened, "Thank you."
At the mansion, Robin ate his supper there before taking Sabrina out for a walk. It was in a comfortable silence, taking in the serene nature of the environment.
The next day, Daniel arrived at Sabrina’s mansion, at the same time Robin did. Both Sabrina and Lizzy stepped out at the same time.
Lizzy was dressed in casual jeans and trainers with a cute blouse, her hair held in a bun, whilst Sabrina wore a straight flair polka dot dress that stopped on her knee.
"You look stunning," Both Robin and Daniel said at the same time, the two women froze, looking awkwardly at each other.
