Ch. 221..225: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 221-225

Chapter 221: Chapter 221 – He kissed her bump

Sabrina did not answer his question but rather stared at the woman beside him with unease and asked,

"Who is she?"

She was more alert now because of the woman, making Robin confused as to whether she had just seen the woman when she had been there all along.

Promptly, he did the introduction. "Her name is Laura Smith, your new secretary."

Sabrina instantly relaxed, "okay."

"It’s an honor to meet you ma’am, I will learn about your preferences from your secretary and I hope we can work together."

The woman stretched her head towards her for a handshake.

She was a model figure with a little accent but had a stunning beauty and yet everything else about her was very professional.

"I hope so too," Sabrina shook her hand and said, knowing that it would be good to always have somebody in the secretary’s office before hers just in case somebody walks in when her secretary goes to ease herself or something.

"I will go to the office now. Since you are not there, can you please inform your secretary to take me through your schedules?" She asked politely, Sabrina smiled and responded,

"Sure."

"I will be gone then," She bowed a little and turned around when Sabrina said to Robin in a disappointed tone,

"Goodbye, Robin."

She was expecting them to go together, for which reason she said so but Robin was a little confused and asked her teasingly,

"Is it that you don’t want to share your breakfast with me today?"

Sabrina was a little embarrassed since she was never stingy with food and said honestly,

"I thought you were going with her."

"No. We came with separate cars," Robin clarified before Sabrina stretched her neck and saw Laura driving away.

"Alright, come in."

She was about to open the door when Robin said behind her,

"You didn’t let me touch them."

He was so close that she could practically hear his beat and also felt his minty breath on her ears.

Sabrina could not understand why this was happening, and why her heart rate was quickening just like his.

However, calming herself and yet feeling the blood rushing up her cheeks, she came to the understanding that her heart had always reacted that way at Robin’s presence but now, she had to rely on her mind to not make the same mistakes.

"Alright, just be quick," she lifted her shirt a little and closed her eyes, expecting to feel his warm palms on her belly but it was nothing like that.

What she felt on her belly was warm moist lips, sending a strange fire heating her whole body.

She quickly opened her eyes to see Robin kneeling in front of her with his lips pressed to his belly and his eyes closed.

Sabrina froze and it extended to every part of her body.

For the first time, she did not know what to do, upon seeing him so vulnerable.

Putting herself together, she allowed him to take as much time as he wanted since it was not every day, he’d request to touch her bump.

When Robin finally rose to his feet, he had tears in his eyes because of how much he missed but quickly wiped them and smiled,

"Thank you very much. This meant a lot to me."

Sabrina did not know what to say since the whole move was unexpected.

Robin opened the door for her and they both walked in together.

Because of everyone around, he did not get to eat on the same plate with her like he wanted and after having breakfast together with Lizzy and Cobby since Devin and Matilda already left the house early to sort things out, Robin left at the same time Cobby did.

When he returned to the office, Aria was not at her desk but her laptop was on, which showed that she had arrived.

He went inside his office when Aria knocked after almost thirty minutes and walked in.

It was the norm that if Robin did not respond to her knock, then he was just too busy but it also meant that he was aware that she was coming in.

"Good morning, sir."

Robin lifted his head from what he was doing and glanced at her,

"Aria, Good morning. Did you see my emails? You were not seated when I returned."

Aria was nervous but because Robin was not looking at her, he did not notice it.

"Yes sir, I saw them. I went to the HR manager’s office."

Robin’s brows knitted a little at the sound of HR and he asked,

"Is there a problem?"

Since he hadn’t requested anything from that department, he was not expecting her to be there.

"Yes sir," Aria said and Robin grew worried since she never complained about anything ever since they started working together over five years ago.

"Well then, sit."

Aria sat in front of him, dropping her gaze when Robin lifted his.

"Thank you, sir, I just informed the HR manager and I thought I should let you know as well that I’m five months pregnant and will be taking both my annual and maternity leave in three months."

"You are pregnant."

The news was both sweet and sour to Robin but his happiness for her dominated any other thing.

Indeed, she had been married for a long time. He remembered when she began working and he tried to hit on her the first time she resumed work.

He did not feel ashamed of that part because he was not married then.

She quickly informed him that she got married two weeks ago and the job was like a wedding present for her, which meant that Aria had been childless for over five years, and yet, she had nothing to show that her husband treated her badly for not having children.

Robin felt ashamed. He was just married for three years and gave Sabrina hell.

"Yes sir."

His lips curled up. "Well then, congratulations!"

"Thank you."

"Can I ask a personal question?" He asked and she nodded, wondering what it was going to be.

"Throughout your years of being married, was it your decision to wait this long?"

Chapter 222: Chapter 222 – Scissors?

Aria smiled bitterly and responded,

"The plan was to wait for just a year but God’s ways are not our ways. We kept trying but nothing."

Her mood was sorrowful at the recollection and Robin wondered how she was able to put it all together and pretend as if her life was perfect but there was another throbbing question on his mind.

"And your husband?" He asked and Aria smiled.

"He was more patient with me, believing that at the right time, we would have children. He even said it was okay if we never had children and there were a lot of children without parents who also needed love."

"His point was, that if we could not have our own children, then we could adopt after two or three years of trying. But when the time came and we wanted to adopt, he lost his job."

Aria smiled at everything that happened. Nothing worked the way they planned it but in the end, everything was still perfect.

"We decided to hold on until he got a job but it’s been three years now, and he still hasn’t gotten any job yet, I’m pregnant. I felt that it was a time for us to learn how to be patient or maybe, a test of our love."

"Everything that happened only strengthened our love for each other so it was worth it."

As Robin listened to Aria’s quantity and quality words, something irked in his heart and he felt that he should not have waited to confirm Sabrina’s pregnancy before going after her and began to question what he felt for his ex-wife.

Children were all that mattered to him before but he just realized that the true meaning of love wasn’t always about getting what you want but rather, making your partner happy.

He hoped that one day, he would be able to prove his unconditional love for Sabrina.

His attention shifted back to the subject matter since he already got what he wanted and asked,

"Can you work from home during your maternity leave? I mean, I will send the emails in the evenings and you can work on them at your convenience."

He wanted to recommend that she get a nanny but remembering what she said about her husband not working, he said,

"If I have to pay for a nanny for you for the hours you have to work from home, I wouldn’t mind."

Aria was confused by the sudden request and revealed,

"HR said she would prepare a relieve secretary for you."

After what happened with Rita, Robin did not want it to happen again so it was better to work on important matters with the person he was most comfortable with.

"I will speak to HR to get me a receptionist. I like your work and I don’t want a break in the flow. You also know that I don’t have time to be teaching a relieve staff member how I want my emails and letters written with the timelines and all."

Aria felt her fears of being moved to another department dissipate and was glad to have taken Sabrina’s advice.

Maybe, she and her ex-husband were like-minded after all.

"Okay sir, I will be honored," she agreed, Robin was equally relieved, saying,

"Thank you and I will make sure that your salary is adjusted to suit the changes."

Aria smiled with gratitude. She was not broke but since a child was on the way, she knew her expenditures would go up and did not want to pressure her husband into finding a job since he was already depressed from trying so much to no avail.

"Thank you, sir, thank you very much."

"You are welcome, Aria, so please get the things I want sorted out, and congratulations once again. If you are working and need a break because of your condition, just let me know," Robin added.

It’s not good to overwork a pregnant woman but also, every woman is different, and handles pressure differently.

"Thank you," Aria said once again and when she stood up to go, Robin’s brows knitted a little and he asked,

"Wait, did you say five months? You don’t even have a bump."

Aria chuckled and loosened her blazer before her bump was revealed.

"I do, sir. I just don’t want your guests to see that you have a pregnant secretary," she said politely, Robin felt terrible, wondering if he was a monster or ever made her feel that way.

He was also disturbed, feeling that the baby in her womb was being suffocated.

"Why not? Is there a law prohibiting pregnant women in the workplace? Aria, just wear whatever you are comfortable with but please don’t go naked."

Aria laughed at the last part, glad to have had this conversation with her boss.

"Thank you, sir, I won’t. I will attend to those emails now."

"Good and please try to make it to the party tomorrow with your husband. I will need your help with something so come with scissors," Robin said and Aria froze.

"Scissors?" She asked, shock glazing her face. She was already expecting an invitation to the party but only wondered why the need for scissors at a party.

Robin calmly said, "Yes, scissors."

Seeing that she was still confused, he did not intend to explain and rather added, "And I’m waiting for those reports."

When he spoke like that, there was nothing more Aria could ask or say so she went to attend to the emails.

Later in the day, Robin received a call from Devin.

"Robin, the police went with an arrest warrant to Martin’s mansion to arrest him but there is no sign of him. The security said that he left the house when the video went viral and has still not returned."

Robin was most certain that Martin had nowhere to hide and if Mara was in the mansion and yet could not be located, then Martin was still there as well.

"Don’t worry. I will take care of it," he said solemnly before adding, "Let the media be aware that Martin is on the run."

Devin laughed at the end of the line; already discerning what Robin planned to achieve.

"Robin, do you know what that would do?"

Robin smiled and responded, "It’s the reason why I’m doing it."

Chapter 223: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 223 – I’m glad to be on your team

Investors would withdraw their shares from wherever the CEO is on the run.

In Martin’s case, after the viral video, Robin planned to destroy his company entirely.

Devin was able to predict the outcome of Robin’s advice and admitted that the guy knew what he was doing and that if he wanted to mess up someone, the person would never be able to survive it.

"I’m glad to be on your team," he said from the end of the line, understanding the reason why Robin was still ruling the business world irrespective of his bad reputation with women from before.

In business, he was a different person altogether.

Robin laughed from his side of the line but did not respond and was about to end the call when Devin asked,

"Can I also get an update on how things go?"

"Yes, I will let you know but I will wait for the news before I proceed with what I have in mind to do."

"Alright, I will get to it instantly," Devin said before ending the call.

In the next two hours, a new subject was captured on the lips of the media, making headlines and spreading like wildfire.

’MARTIN DANE, THE CEO OF DANE INDUSTRIES, LEAVES HIS COMPANY IN SHAMBLES AS HE GOES INTO HIDING TO AVOID ARREST FROM DRUGGING THE PREGNANT DEPUTY CEO OF JC MINERALS.’

Martin was in Mara’s room, lying beside the sleeping woman, and grateful to her for the thoughtful layout she gave him to build the mansion.

The police searched the places visible to them but found nothing, for which reason he was still free.

He planned to wait for the news to die down a little for him to return to the company since he already promoted some of the senior officers to take up managerial roles.

Without the HR Manager, he also relied on the assistant and other officers.

Martin was happy for things to be back to normal but thinking about Sabrina, he could still not allow himself to be away from her and was thinking of how to get to her again.

When his phone began to ring, he thought it was from the new hacker he contracted to cover his ass for him to go out in search of a way to get to Sabrina again, to plead for her forgiveness.

However, when he saw that the call was from one of the new managers he appointed, he had an inkling that something might be wrong in the office and answered the phone.

"Sir, all our investors have sent emails to withdraw their shares," the manager’s frustrated voice sounded through the phone he held in his hand.

"What?" Martin yelled so loudly that it startled Mara awake.

The new manager at the end of the line continued to say,

"Sir, I think it’s because of the current trending news. You should see it."

Martin was annoyed since he had already seen the video, not knowing how it came about when all their tracks had been covered.

"I have seen the trending video already and that is why you became a manager," he said in annoyance.

If not for the situation in which he found himself, the likes of that would not become a manager.

However, he had to do it because it was the only way to gain the loyalty of the man at the end of the line but the next thing he said got Martin thinking.

"Sir, this one is not a video."

"Hold on."

Martin put the call on hold and checked the trending news.

"Holly shit!" he cursed aloud.

"What is the matter?" Mara, who was awakened by his cursed words, asked worriedly.

Martin did not respond immediately, tapping the unhold button and saying hastily,

"I will call you back."

He turned to Mara, showing her the screen of his phone and saying,

"This is the trending news."

Mara’s face drained of so much color, that she could be mistaken for a zombie, and knowing quite well that this was somebody’s doing, she grew very worried and upset, asking,

"Who did this?"

Martin went into deep thought and could only suspect his former best friend.

"It must be Devin. He was the one who sent the cops earlier."

Mara’s hand under the duvet balled into fists but Martin could not see it.

"You, see? If you had allowed me to kill Sabrina, all this would not be happening," She blamed him but Martin was this time angered by her words as well and retorted,

"Stop it, Mara. Sabrina is just a victim."

Any time Martin defends Sabrina, Mara’s heart aches badly and she wonders when he would ever look at her the way she wants.

Until she was able to create bitterness in his heart towards Sabrina, she was certain that he would hate her if he found out that she was pregnant for him.

Therefore, the only thing she could do was to find ways and means of making him see that all their misfortunes were a result of his involvement with Sabrina.

"But her brother did this. We might even lose our investors," she cried this time for real, looking pitiful but Martin’s mind was far away and he was not even looking at her to even wipe her tears.

"Sorry, we already lost them. I won’t be surprised that the rest of the employees would also resign. I have to go there," Martin said with determination but Mara was afraid and refused.

To go to the company anytime soon when there was an arrest warrant waiting for him?

"No. You will get arrested," she said with conflicted emotions but Martin was not used to staying at home every day and did not know how long he had to keep hiding, especially when,

"I have to and tomorrow is Sabrina’s birthday. I have to send her a present," he revealed, making Mara double upset.

"A present? Are you serious now? The cops are looking for you and she hates you. Don’t forget that Robin is also there."

Hearing Robin’s name made Martin afraid and he began to suspect something.

Chapter 224: Chapter 224 - If Sabrina gives me another chance...

"Could Robin be the one behind the videos? If anything at all, he is the only one with the resources to get them."

Mara smiled a little when she saw the fear on Martin’s face and used it against him.

"Since you already guessed, I don’t think you should go out until we confirm how good the new hacker is."

Martin sighed thoughtfully and said,

"Mara, no matter what, I have to be at the party, even if I have to disguise myself."

Mara raged but realized a flaw in his plan and pointed out,

"But you don’t have an invitation."

"There are still ways around it so I will be at the party," Martin said with determination, making Mara frown.

She wanted to be at the party as well and did not know how that was going to be possible with Martin there.

Now it seemed that since Martin was not going to work, she would be bedridden for real.

A few hours later, there was more news about the Dane industries, as a lot of Martin’s workers resigned with immediate effect.

They could not stand the shame that overcame the prestige from before.

As Robin watched the news to his satisfaction, he was certain this time that Martin would not come into the open and had to use Daniel to get his exact location so he put a call through to Daniel.

"What is the status of Mara?" He asked as soon as Daniel answered the call.

Daniel paused for a while before replying,

"Honestly Robin, I’ve been a bit relaxed because of the party. If we get the hacker now, you know we have to set off immediately and I know that you can’t miss the party too."

Robin had forgotten that piece of the puzzle and was happy that Daniel reminded him.

"You are right but are the signs good?" He asked, not wanting what happened the last time to happen again and this time, Daniel smiled at the end of the line before responding,

"Very good."

Robin was elated and instructed,

"Okay, then please get to work as soon as it’s done. I will spend the night at the penthouse today but that will be after I go to see Sabrina this evening."

Hearing about Sabrina, thoughts about Lizzy quickly outranked Daniel’s mind and he asked,

"Can I come along? I want to see Lizzy."

Robin frowned a little, feeling that Daniel’s request sounded weird, and asked him,

"Can’t you wait till the party?"

He felt it was the best time for Daniel to have all the time with Lizzy since this time, the hotel was his, and all his staff there would be at work so he was sure that nothing would go wrong.

Daniel thought to remind him,

"How can I wait when I have to help you at the party?"

Yeah, Daniel had a few things to do, just like that general but then, there would be a lot of time after Robin deals with Zayla for fun activities to happen.

"What about after?" Robin asked.

There was a long pause at the end of the line and Robin was about to ask if Daniel was still there before the latter revealed,

"Robin, to be honest with you, I didn’t want to disturb you because of all the issues on your neck but Lizzy has not been answering my calls or messages for a week now."

Robin was perplexed at the news since he always thought that things were perfect between the duo. He asked seriously,

"Is there a problem?"

Daniel never hides anything from Robin and vice versa so he went ahead to narrate everything.

"No. Our last date was fine but when I asked her out again after that, she did not seem interested and kept saying that she was busy."

Robin could not believe that this was happening.

If his relationship was messed up, then that was his fault but he felt that Daniel did not deserve this since he has always been against cheating in marriage from the onset.

He only womanized because he was single and not in any serious relationship.

Robin also remembered how Daniel kept talking about Lizzy from the moment he set eyes on her.

It was something he never did about any other girl before.

"That isn’t a good sign. Did you do anything to upset her?" He asked seriously since he could not think of any other reason why things would turn out that way.

He was also afraid that should Lizzy hate Daniel or something, it might influence Sabrina’s decisions concerning him as well.

"I never even hugged her," Daniel revealed and Robin sighed with relief but was also amazed.

"That is extreme. If she went on five dates with you, it means she likes you after the first time so you should have broken the ice after the second or third time with a hug or a kiss."

Daniel chuckled at the end of the line. It was not as if he did not want to but,

"Considering my reputation with women, I don’t know the perception she has about me so I was afraid of messing things up. I just wanted to give her more time," he explained but Robin felt that that was the problem.

"I guess you rather messed it up by being too much of a gentleman. Without those things, she might also have the idea that all you want is friendship."

Daniel agreed with Robin’s analysis but having known his best friend, Daniel would not have been surprised if the advice only pertained to business.

For it to be based on a relationship, was a great shock to him.

"Robin, since when did you become a relationship expert?" Daniel asked in an amused tone but Robin replied seriously,

"Unlike you, I hunt before I eat. I’ve been doing a lot of research about relationships aside from learning how to cook. If Sabrina gives me another chance, I want her to see how much I have changed for her."

Chapter 225: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 225 – Dad, he wants you there as well

Daniel was fascinated by the words he was hearing from Robin on the phone, never imagining that Robin was capable of changing so much.

Seemed to him that everything happens for a good reason and Sabrina’s leaving was necessary for Robin’s change.

He advised seriously,

"I hope you keep those changes if she agrees to marry you again."

Robin smiled thoughtfully, imagining if he got a second chance to marry Sabrina again.

He was sure to make everybody who ever mocked her for marrying a jerk like him before, envy her for her entire years of existence.

"Well, I intend to make it my lifestyle. I realized that there is always time for everything and it only depends on one’s priorities."

"I agree but how are things between you and Sabrina?" Daniel asked, hoping that indeed Sabrina would give Robin a chance after Zayla was exposed.

"Much improved. She was only upset about Zayla’s presence at her party but we have it all sorted out now," Robin said with a smile.

Daniel was very happy and asked again,

"That is good news, have you had any physical contact?"

Robin smiled, remembering that hug that made him feel as if his whole life depended on it and he didn’t want to let go. He spoke dreamily,

"Only a hug but that’s all I deserve for now since my situation is different from yours."

In Robin’s case, he messed up but in Daniel’s case, he was being too careful.

"Yeah, you are right. I will join you, so I get to see Lizzy. I think I know what to do."

Robin smiled, knowing that Daniel would indeed know what to do.

"Okay but please get here before I close. We can use the same car."

"Sure thing," Daniel responded before the call ended.

At Robin’s penthouse, Zayla has been privy to all the news ongoing, very distraught that after everything including Martin drugging Sabrina, the latter still gets the last laugh.

Her heart ached every time she read the comments of the netizens, seeing how they all pleaded for justice for Sabrina.

Sabrina had her father, brother, sister, and best friend but could still not leave the only person Zayla wanted aside from her father.

All Zayla wanted was Robin but Sabrina seemed to use some kind of charm on him that he even gave her more attention than he ever gave Zayla.

Zayla was depressed and did not want to attend another party showcasing and honoring Sabrina in her presence but there was also a five million dollar at stake.

It was her only reason for agreeing to attend the party and she was certain that her father would never want to attend.

Whereas Robin had said that he was going to be there in the evening, so she figured it was now or never.

Feeling nervous and rehearsing in her mind, as to how to tell her father about the party, she mastered courage and put a call through to him.

"Dad, how are you today?" Zayla spoke first, giggling awkwardly on the line.

Her father felt that perhaps the money was ready for which reason she was calling and thought to make arrangements.

"Fine Zayla. Is there good news yet? Is the money ready?" He asked, Zayla got serious and said,

"He said it’s ready but he wants me to escort him to Sabrina’s birthday party before he gives it to me," she revealed with a slight hesitation, her father frowned a little, wondering why she hesitated in telling him this.

"That is not a problem. You should go," he encouraged her since it was the only means to get the money for them to leave as soon as possible.

Whereas when Zayla responded, Kennedy felt like strangling her.

"Dad, he wants you there as well."

"Me? Why?" Her father was suddenly apprehensive, not able to imagine the reason why Robin would want him at a place like that. Zayla explained,

"He said that Sabrina doesn’t have many friends so he is trying to get as many people as possible there to make her happy," she said bitterly.

Kennedy was so furious, his anger burned. He knew there would be a lot of prominent people at any party Robin graced, just for them to have business acquaintances and opportunities.

Most of those people knew him and would mock him if he appeared in public again.

Due to his investors, he hasn’t stepped out much himself, and now, to appear at such an event? Never.

Kennedy did not want to face such shame.

"But that should not include me," he said defensively, Zayla felt helpless and explained to the best of her knowledge.

"He also said that if you don’t come, he won’t give us the money," Zayla said finally, Kennedy began to think twice.

Maybe, he should just face this embarrassment and disappear for the rest of his life or even hide in any of the washrooms as soon as he gets there.

He would only let Robin see that he was there before he found a place to hide from all-knowing eyes.

However, he still had to be sure if everything would be worth it.

"And if I come, when would he give money?" He asked, this time in a subtle tone.

"As soon as the party is over but, in my case, he would not even allow me to go and visit Mom if I don’t attend the party since I’m fake carrying his child," Zayla said bitterly.

Who knew that faking pregnancy would make her a prisoner in a penthouse? But Kennedy was confused and asked,

"Visiting mom? What are you talking about?" He asked and Zayla patiently explained again,

"That is the excuse I had to give him. You know how he doesn’t allow me to go out."

Kennedy took a deep breath and remembered that his assets had all been auctioned because of his debts, he had nothing, thereby requesting,

"Okay. Fine, I will go but I don’t have a car and I don’t want to take a commercial vehicle to such an event."
