Ch. 226..230: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 226-230
Chapter 226: Chapter 226 – Eavesdropping.
"Okay. Fine, I will go but I don’t have a car and I don’t want to take a commercial vehicle to such an event."
Zayla pondered over her father’s situation. Robin had a lot of cars so she didn’t think that he would refuse if she asked for any of them to be used to pick up her father to the party.
It was Robin’s request anyway, not hers.
"I will explain that to him so he can make an arrangement for the driver to pick you up," she said over the line before her father thought about taking advantage of the situation again, asking,
"Okay. Tell him I need new clothes too."
Looking at the time and knowing it was already getting late, Zayla thought to get the money for her father to buy the suit for the party today for him to wear tomorrow.
Or even if Robin gives her father the money today, the latter could make the purchase tomorrow before the party in the evening.
The earlier she got the money, the better.
"Oops, I guess I should inform him right away then."
Zayla ended the call after that and dialed Robin’s number, surprised that he answered her call for the first time in weeks.
"I’m busy now. Is it important?"
His tone was harsh but she had gotten used to not seeing his soft side again.
If she had known that those diamonds were fake, she would never have asked for the villa and who knows, she would have just continued being the other woman and enjoying the attention he gave her before.
Zayla felt pity for any woman who was desiring to be Robin’s wife, feeling that his true character was only revealed after getting close to him.
Swallowing tightly, she calmed herself,
"Yes. You wanted my dad to attend the party but he said he doesn’t have new clothes and a car."
’New clothes and a car,’ Robin reminisced over her words.
If they knew what was coming, they wouldn’t mind getting there naked but since he wanted her to feel that she was still in charge, he said to her,
"Don’t worry. I will arrange for it."
Zayla smiled, glad that he did not refuse, and asked over the phone again,
"Should I inform the driver?"
Robin was getting annoyed, feeling that she was having a hearing impairment.
"I said I will arrange for it," he reiterated in a cold, raised tone. She shivered on the other side of the line, blaming it on his bad temper again.
"Okay. So, you said you are coming home tonight. What should I make for supper?" She asked, trying to calm him since he liked home-cooked meals.
Robin was grossly irritated by the mere sound of her voice on the phone.
"Zayla..."
Zayla cut him off, thinking he was about to refuse because of her horrible cooking the first time, and said,
"My cooking has improved. I’ve been learning a lot online."
Since Robin did not want to create suspicions in her mind that he was tricking her after promising that he had changed and would begin spending the night at the penthouse, he took a deep breath and said,
"That will depend on the time I get there so don’t waste your time."
He was not as rude as before so Zayla took advantage and insisted,
"But I want to."
Robin gave up. The fact that she wanted to cook for him did not mean he had to eat it. She had a lot of time on her hands anyway.
"Okay."
After Robin ended the call, he was just rounding up when Daniel arrived, seeming excited as a result of what he intended to do.
"Are you ready?" He asked Robin who gave him a nod,
"I’m ready."
Robin and Danel arrived at Sabrina’s mansion earlier than dinner time to be able to have a little chat with her.
Upon reaching there, the maid directed him and Daniel to the garden where Sabrina, Lizzy, and Matilda were engaged in casual talks whilst sitting together on a fancy garden bench over a jar and three glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice.
"So how is my brother? Is he treating you well?"
Sabrina asked Matilda.
Even as best friends, they hardly had time for casual talks due to their busy schedules so this seemed like a great opportunity.
Sabrina had finished fitting her dress an hour ago and had her nails and hair done as well.
However, she covered it with a scarf so she would look different tomorrow.
Matilda smiled, feeling like the happiest woman. The man she had a crush on all her life proved to be the best for her.
In relationship matters, Devin was amazing.
"You know that your brother is a gentleman. We should be asking the greatest risk-taker, Lizzy. How are things going with Daniel?" Matilda asked and Lizzy blushed, even though her appearance turned gloomy.
Unknown to them, the maid had shown the two men where the women were and they had almost reached there when Daniel heard his name and pulled Robin back since he was walking forward and would have been seen by the women.
"What..." Robin was about to ask what was happening when Daniel covered Robin’s mouth with his hand, signaling him to please be quiet.
They stood behind the neatly trimmed lawns since the women’s backs were turned to it, as they spoke in a relaxed way.
"Daniel is bad, terrible, I mean, nothing is moving between us, Lizzy said."
Daniel froze at Lizzy’s words, trying to remember in which way he made her feel that way.
Whereas, it was after hearing Lizzy’s analysis of Daniel, that Robin understood what was going on, feeling saddened for his best friend.
However, since Daniel was calm, they both did not speak but continued to eavesdrop as they heard Sabrina ask again,
"What are you talking about? Did he try to force himself on you on something?" She sounded disturbed.
Chapter 227: Chapter 227 – Missing someone
"Rather the opposite. I mean, we’ve gone on five dates and it’s just one talk to the other. Not even a hug, not a kiss. I think he sees me as a sister or something," Lizzy said with disappointment and drained her glass of orange juice down her throat before refilling it.
Sabrina looked at her with Sadness in her eyes.
She thought her sister was happy but hearing this, she only got confused.
Matilda was even at a loss that Daniel had indeed not made a move which made her feel that she must have been perceiving him wrongly all this while.
"That is strange, considering the kind of person he is. I really can’t tell why?"
"Well, I stopped answering his call for a week now," Lizzy revealed in a depressed tone Sabrina lost her reasoning in the whole situation and asked her,
"Why would you do that?"
"I already have a brother. I don’t need another brother," Lizzy spoke in annoyance.
She might not have been in any relationship before but was sure that was not how things worked in relationships.
She had seen it in movies and was certain that this was absurd.
"But, do you feel any attraction towards him?" Sabrina asked her.
Daniel was very much interested in this part, thanking Sabrina in his mind for asking the question in his heart and when he heard Lizzy’s honest response, his heart was at peace.
"Well yes and I miss him but if all I get is food and talk, then what is the essence? I mean, I want to feel like a woman," Lizzy did not waste time to declare her intentions to her sister, which made Sabrina amazed.
They never talked about relationships that much upon her return because of how heartbroken she was by then and now that they were having this talk, it felt right and their bond grew stronger too.
"My kid sister is all grown," she remarked, Lizzy shrugged and sipped her juice but did not say anymore.
As the ladies went silent for close to a minute, just sipping their juice and admiring the beauty of the garden, Daniel waited a little to not make it obvious that he had been there, even walking back some distance with Robin before approaching them whilst they resumed talking.
"Do you think it’s dinner time yet?" Matilda asked, looking at the time on her phone, and said, "Devin said he’ll make it for dinner."
Sabrina was so happy about Matilda’s happiness. It was obvious that Devin made her happy.
"You are missing someone you sleep on the same bed with," she teasingly pointed out and Matilda’s cheeks crimsoned.
"Well..."
"Hi ladies, sorry to interrupt," Robin said, amazed by the scarf around Sabrina’s head. It made her look...he didn’t have the words to describe it and only smiled.
When Lizzy saw Daniel, she stood up and said,
"I have to go check on dinner. I mean... the maids. No. On dad." She was confused, not knowing what to say but when she was about to walk past Daniel, he blocked her path and asked her,
"Lizzy, can we talk?"
Lizzy shook her head, feeling like he was going to ask her on another date which she was not ready to go.
"No...Dan...I have a lot to do right now," she stammered from the nervousness he made her feel from his closeness to her.
Since Daniel had eavesdropped on their conversation and knew the reason why she was upset with him, he smiled at her, making her confused, She tried to take another step away from him but before she could succeed, Daniel’s arms wrapped around her waist and he pulled her close to his chest, their breathing becoming erratic.
"Why are you avoiding me?" He looked into her eyes and asked her, hoping that she’d be honest with him but Lizzy was already melting in his arms and did not have the bravery to confess to him as she did her sister and Matilda.
Her gaze dropped and she lied, "I’m not."
Daniel chuckled, his arms firming around her, as he accused her subtly,
"But you don’t answer my calls."
"I’ve been busy," Lizzy tried to wiggle out of his arms to avoid whatever charm he was trying to cast on her but Daniel was not ready to let go.
It was funny how he almost lost her because of being too much of a gentleman.
"Go out with me next week please," he pleaded, just as Lizzy guessed and was already annoyed. Her response was a firm,
"No."
"Are you sure?" Daniel’s lips were just inches away and she could feel his warm breath on her face, making her legs feel like jelly.
"I..."
Before the word left her mouth, Daniel’s lips devoured hers, stealing her first kiss which was extremely passionate, it left her scrambling wanting for more and also scrambling for air.
Warmth returned to her heart, as she felt that he was not seeing her as a sister like she thought.
The other two women walked past them and Robin followed. Lizzy was shy and lowered her head but Daniel cupped her face in his palms and asked again,
"Will you have dinner with me at home please?"
Choosing the venue to be his house, he was hinting at something, not knowing if she understood, and also added,
"This time, we’ll cook together and I’d love for you to spend the night.
"Ah..." Lizzy’s heart kept beating faster and she was so stricken, her words failed her so she bobbed her head in agreement, her cheeks turning all red.
Daniel felt his heart lighten once again before he loosened his grip on and around her waist,
"Thank you. I will go now."
He was so excited that he already turned around and began walking away but Lizzy did not want him to leave just yet, feeling ashamed for her earlier behavior towards him.
Take a deep breath, she asked audibly behind him,
"Wait, won’t you have dinner with us?"
Chapter 228: Chapter 228 - Your wish is my command, dear one.
To dine with her family before making progress in the relationship? Daniel paused in his steps and turned around, not expecting that invitation, and smiled,
"I won’t refuse if you invite me."
Lizzy smiled shyly, "So, I’m inviting you."
She caught up to him and held him by the hand, as Daniel’s heart warmed and he said,
"Thank you."
At the dining table, Cobby was surprised but happy to see Daniel.
From his experience, he always believed that everyone had to be given a chance and no man was beyond help if they indeed wanted to be helped.
"How have you been, Daniel?" Cobby asked since he remembered Daniel from the hospital and also knew that he was Robin’s best friend.
"I’ve been doing great sir," Daniel said politely, Cobby felt strange.
Dining at the same table, he did not understand the reason why he was being addressed as sir.
"If you are having dinner with us, then you are part of the family. Call me dad."
Daniel was super excited, smiling broadly and liking Cobby even more.
The man was indeed a great father and Daniel could also understand the reason why Robin changed so much after forcing himself into Sabrina’s life again.
Cobby was a good man and no man in his right sense would want to offend him.
Due to that, the kindness he shows always bounces back to him through the happiness of his children.
"Thank you, Dad," Daniel said with genuine gratitude.
Cobby turned his attention to Robin, acting as if he was not aware of Robin’s arrangements, and said,
"Robin, Sabrina tells me that you are inviting Zayla to the party."
Robin bobbed his head before responding,
"Yes, Dad but I won’t bother you with the details since the party is just tomorrow."
Cobby did not know the details of Robin’s plans so he could not help being worried, though Robin had changed so much.
"Robin, I don’t want her to get hurt again," Cobby warned subtly.
Robin smiled, looked at Sabrina, and said,
"I promise I will never do anything to upset her. Her happiness is my greatest concern and it’s even more important to me than mine."
Sabrina was trying to keep calm. She was even trying to forget everything but sadly, she still had a weakness whenever Zayla’s name was mentioned.
She already felt that her birthday party, which Robin insisted on celebrating for her, was not going to be a happy one because of Zayla’s presence but since Robin had insisted, she had no say.
However, she was also determined to make Zayla suffer what she suffered, thereby requesting,
"If my happiness matters to you, then I don’t want to see you with Zayla after the party. You can only go with her for her antenatal checks."
Robin smiled, glad that Sabrina had no clue of the reason why he was bringing Zayla over, and said humbly,
"Your wish is my command, dear one."
Daniel and Devin smiled internally, having a hint of what was going to happen but the women had gloomy expressions.
After dinner, Robin took Sabrina for her usual walk, and whilst at it, he said,
"You look beautiful."
Sabrina rolled her eyes but did not respond. Robin had gotten that reaction before so he did not mind and confirmed,
"I don’t care if you believe me but it’s the truth. I never thought you would rock a scarf like that."
Sabrina stared at him, saw the seriousness in his eyes but still did not respond, feeling that if she did, then he wouldn’t stop talking.
After the walk, Robin went to the penthouse, surprised to be met with a candle-lit dinner.
He had kept so long that Zayla had dozed off on the sofa, curled like a ball and the candles were almost ready to go off after melting to the bottom.
Robin went to his room but since it hadn’t been cleaned for weeks, it made him uncomfortable so he spent the next twenty minutes cleaning his room before putting all the needed documents together.
He laid on the bed but sleep eluded him until he brought out his phone and began to watch Sabrina’s pictures.
As his mind glazed with memories of Sabrina, he fell into a deep sleep, waking up to Daniel’s call the next morning, which was the day of the party.
"Robin, are you going to pick Sabrina?"
"No, I will be coming with Zayla," Robin said honestly, Daniel smiled and responded over the phone,
"Then I would go and bring Lizzy." He still could not get over the kiss they shared and was upset with himself for booking their date to next week.
He should have made it Sunday.
"All the best and look your best," Robin said before he remembered something and asked, "Can you do me a big favor?"
Daniel was reluctant at the end of the line since he knew that Robin was in the penthouse.
Daniel abhorred the evil woman there so much and responded,
"Anything that doesn’t have to do with Zayla."
Robin chuckled. He wanted to do it himself before but then, who would keep an eye on Zayla? Also, he wanted her to feel that she already has everything, only to realize that she lost everything including her life.
"It has to do with her father."
"You still ruined my mood but what is it?" Daniel asked with irritation in his voice.
"I want to send you Zayla’s father’s address and suit size. You buy him a nice suit and bring him to the party."
Daniel was not liking this. To be the chauffeur of an evil man? Then what about Lizzy?
"So, you don’t want me to bring Lizzy."
"You never arranged with her anyway but you still get to send her home. Also, I need you to keep an eye on the man when you arrive at the party. Be nice to him and make sure he doesn’t suspect anything," Robin stated.
Daniel let out a humorless chuckle, since he was not good at pretending but because he was only escorting the old man to face judgment, he agreed.
"Oh, Robin, you are so lucky you are my best friend."
"I know right?" Robin smiled and spoke.
Chapter 229: Chapter 229 – Don’t hurt the baby
Robin put a call through to Sabrina after ending the call with Daniel, not expecting her to answer the call since it was a weekend and she might be sleeping but to his surprise, she answered it.
"Robin?"
"Dear one, how are you today?" Robin asked with concern, wishing he was there but this was going to be the last time he was going to do something like this, for which reason it was easy for him to endure.
"I’m good. Are you here already?" Worry laced Sabrina’s words when she asked, Robin’s heart swelled a little, feeling that she was missing him but was also sorry to disappoint her.
"No. I wanted to tell you that I have something very important to do so I will see you in the evening."
There was a pause at the end of the line before Sabrina responded,
"Okay, I will eat your food on your behalf then."
Robin smiled, happy about how their relationship was growing.
She was even cracking jokes with him and he was grateful for her friendship.
This was something they never did, even when married.
"You should keep it for me. I will eat a double portion tomorrow."
Sabrina’s voice, which sounded like music in his ears rang again,
"No. Tomorrow is another day and you already missed today."
Robin could feel the disappointment in her voice though it was on the phone and she was also jovial about it.
"I will make it up to you."
There was another pause before Sabrina responded,
"Since you aren’t coming, I’m hungry and I’m going to eat."
"Enjoy your breakfast, dear one," Robin smiled when she ended the call.
He was a little nervous, hoping that she wouldn’t take things wrongly.
Zayla was still sleeping when Robin descended the stairs but woke up sooner, rubbing her sleepy eyes and yawning, she asked him,
"When did you get back?"
Robin smiled and Zayla’s heart warmed.
"A long time ago but you were sleeping."
Robin was in a good mood because his thanksgiving turkey was going to be sacrificed tonight.
Also, Sabrina would no longer have to worry about Zayla being a part of his life after today.
Zayla glanced at the candlelit dinner. Everything was still there, except the candles which had melted away and the food would have gone bad by now.
"Dinner is ruined."
Robin’s smile did not falter. "I warned you."
"Then let me make you breakfast," Zayla suggested, being sure that if Robin tasted her cooking, then he would always come back wanting more.
Whereas, Robin felt that he would die before he ate anything prepared by a traitor.
He was only doing this to make the revenge sweeter.
"I’m not hungry."
Zayla was disappointed but since Robin promised to be coming home every day, she would just have to prepare something else for him another time.
With Robin smiling at her like this, she did not want to leave by her father’s plan anymore but that also brought her mind back to her father’s request.
"Robin, what about my dad?"
"Daniel will sort him out."
Zayla did not like the arrangement but was afraid of waking up Robin’s bad temper if she tried to argue with him.
As they were talking, an idea crept into her mind.
Since it was Sabrina’s birthday and knowing that she would be getting all the attention, Zayla could not endure it and thought about buying a dress that would take the attention off Sabrina.
"Okay, but I have to get a dress too."
Robin did not deny her request and answered,
"Okay, let’s go."
Zayla was so shocked that she was running up the stairs like she was mad, Robin thought about giving her a little reminder.
"Don’t hurt the baby."
Zayka froze when she realized she has forgotten her bump again.
It was because of how she lived for weeks without seeing Robin, she loosened her guard.
Robin’s back was turned and confusion raked her mind as she wondered if he indeed noticed.
However, if Robin had, he would have questioned her.
At that thought, she kicked against her fears.
In a few minutes, she descended the stairs wearing her bump and enlarging it a little to suit the four-month pregnancy she was faking.
Robin drove her to a luxury clothing store and sat down.
"Pick whatever you want."
An attendant helped Zayla and she came out with so many bags that Robin thought about giving them to charity after she was gone.
He could tell that she had picked more things than necessary but he didn’t mind.
It felt good for her to have a taste of happiness before being thrown into hell.
When he was driving back to the penthouse, Zayla said,
"I’m hungry."
"Robin did not respond and drove her to a luxury restaurant.
She delayed a lot, wishing that the paparazzi would come in and give them publicity but luck was not on her side.
After the meal, they drove back to the penthouse and Robin suggested that they have a good rest since the night was going to be long and Zayla agreed, since they already ate brunch.
When Robin woke up, he saw a text message from Daniel, confirming that everything was fine. He smiled, went out of his room, and knocked on Zayla’s door.
It took a while for her to come and get it and still a little sleepy as Robin said,
"It’s time."
"Okay, I will go and freshen up," Zayla said and Robin went to do the same and waited for her downstairs.
When she appeared up the stairs, Robin intentionally said,
"You look nice and pretended to be on the phone, so he wouldn’t have to hold her hand."
***
At Cobby’s mansion, Sabrina was all dressed up and looking like the queen she was.
She, Lizzy, and Matilda kept complimenting themselves before thanking Lizzy for their dresses.
Sabrina’s design, for instance, hid her bump perfectly and she looked so stunning.
Cobby never liked parties but could not miss this one so he asked his daughters,
"Is anyone joining me?"
"We’ll go with Devin," they all refused.
Sabrina was rather expecting Robin since he said he would see her in the evening but Devin soon knocked on her door and asked,
"Are you ladies ready?"
"Yes, but Robin would be here, right?" Sabrina asked expectantly, since she had gotten used to having him as her driver.
Devin looked at her critically before he responded,
"No. He said I should bring you."
Sabrina’s gaze lowered, turning to one of disappointment, everyone was surprised.
Chapter 230: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 230 – Timely arrivals
"Brina, don’t you want to go with us? Robin is already waiting at the party," Devin said and Sabrina’s frown deepened.
She did not have the understanding that Robin’s allowing Zayla to come to her party meant he was going to come with her but this was obviously the situation right now.
"With Zayla right?"
Devin pursed his lips but did not answer the question since he knew that was the case and rather spoke to her assuringly,
"It’s your day and we are all there. Nobody would be able to ruin your mood."
Sabrina sighed. The only person who used to ruin her mood in such events before was Robin so she had no idea what to expect right now.
"I hope he keeps his promise to not see her again after the party," she murmured under her breath, not knowing that they heard her but luckily no one commented on her words, whether good or bad.
From another side, Kennedy Chance received a text message from Zayla.
’He sent his best friend to take care of you.’
Kennedy Chance frowned when he received the message since he expected Robin to give him at least 100k for shopping with a personal driver.
How shameful it would be for his best friend to bring him the money.
Kennedy was not happy about this but when his mind drove to the main item on the list, which was the five million, he tolerated it.
Hearing the knock on the door, he went to open it and saw a tall handsome man smiling at him with a big box in his hand.
"Good evening, sir, my name is Daniel Root, Robin’s best friend. He asked me to bring this to you and to also be your chauffeur at the party."
Daniel’s smile warmed Kennedy’s heart and he took the box from him.
"Thank you. I already showered so please come in and have a seat. I will soon get ready for us to set off."
Daniel accepted his invitation since he was not going to leave him anyway.
In less than twenty minutes, Kennedy was ready and looking all handsome.
"You look very handsome, sir," Daniel pronounced whilst cursing the middle-aged man in his mind.
The only thing that kept encouraging him was the fact that Robin had something nasty planned for the middle-aged man.
"Thank you, son, you look good too," he smiled and spoke.
"If you are ready, then we can set off," Daniel rose to his feet and said politely.
"Okay," the middle-aged man agreed and followed him to his car.
***
At the Crystal Hotel, all the staff members were very busy because this event directly involved their boss.
The auditorium was well-lit with chandeliers and fancy lights all over.
The music was calming and there were waiters and waitresses everywhere in their neatly pressed uniforms and aprons.
There were also round tables for six or more with a large cake in the middle of the auditorium.
The table for the birthday woman was exceptionally decorated and could also accommodate at least twelve people.
Guests were welcomed at the entrance with smiley waiters and a glass of champagne, even before they stepped into the auditorium.
However, the security was also very tight.
The general alighted from his car with his bodyguards and was led to his reserved table whilst other guests arrived.
The next person to arrive among other guests was Cobby who was ushered to his reserved table which he shared with the general.
It was also capable of taking four more and the general was hoping that perhaps his daughter would share the table with him but since Cobby arrived, he was already very comfortable.
The two men did not even like parties but came on Robin’s invitation which they could not refuse.
The two middle-aged men instantly recapped old times and began chatting over glasses of champagne, though there were other drinks.
Most people who knew the general would go and greet him, the same as Cobby.
At the entrance of the hotel, the media houses sent representatives upon Robin’s invitation but were also under strict restrictions.
They were only supposed to report on what was permitted as such they were not allowed to interview anyone according to their preferences.
Daniel arrived with Kennedy. He got out of his car and opened the door for the middle-aged man before the valet came for his key and drove the car away.
They only took a step when another car pulled over and Robin stepped out.
He was trying to pretend to be the perfect gentleman but it wasn’t working, as he did not want any picture of him and Zayla to start going viral since it would increasingly upset Sabrina.
As such it was hard to keep up the pretense so, instead of going to open the door for Zayla, he went to hug Daniel and since Kennedy missed his daughter, he went to open the door for her and hugged her.
Robin gave his key to the valet when a Lexus Jeep pulled over.
An unfamiliar man alighted from the car and Robin frowned a little but when he went round to open the door for the woman in the passenger seat, Robin relaxed.
"Aria, you look stunning."
Aroa smiled shyly,
"Thank you, sir, and you look dashing. Please meet my husband, Benedict." Aria was all smiles as she introduced her husband.
Robin was happy that she wore a dress that did not hide her bump and she looked more relaxed and comfortable.
"Nice meeting you," Robin greeted Aria’s husband and the latter responded a little timidly,
"The pleasure is mine."
Aria and her husband made their way into the auditorium but Robin was not sure if Sabrina already arrived.
He was about to ask Daniel about it when he saw a limited-edition Bentley driving in.
He sent that car to Devin because all of Devin’s cars were two-seaters so he knew that Sabrina was in the car.
Devin alighted, frowned at the people there, and went around to open the back door first.
Matilda and Lizzy alighted one after the other and Daniel hugged Lizzy, kissing her briefly on the lips, her cheeks pinked whilst Devin went around to open the door for Sabrina.
As soon as Sabrina alighted from the car, exuding glamor, the media surrounded her the moment Devin turned around to give his car key to the valet forgetting the rules to not ask anyone questions without permission.
