Ch. 36..40: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 36-40
Chapter 36: Chapter 36 – The amazing design
Lizzy beamed at Devin’s reaction while she explained the design.
"Yeah, the dress is designed in a way to flaunt our five most expensive jewels."
Devin studied the design carefully. A lot of skin was exposed but the hands to the elbow were covered with fabric gloves. The cut of the dress was just above the breast but there was a lot of fabric below.
The exposed collarbone down to the chest flaunted the diamond necklace, which took attention from the dress and skin, making it irresistible to ignore the necklace.
"I love you, Lizzy. Let this be a surprise for her. Now let me see what you are wearing," Devin probed.
Lizzy slipped the paper on the board, exposing another design but Devin frowned. Before he voiced his disagreement, she went on to explain,
"I want all the attention to be on my elder sister so I’m going with this."
Still, Devin did not agree. "Too simple. You won’t go to any event with me in such a simple dress."
Being the king of fashion, how could he allow her to wear that? No way. Lizzy smiled and flipped the paper again. She already guessed that he would disagree.
"Fine, how about this?"
Devin’s eyes lit, as he saw the next design, "Much better. Now get the fabrics and make sure it’s all ready a day before the event."
"Of course," Lizzy agreed before picking up her board and stepping out of his office.
Devin treated her like every other staff member, irrespective of being his sister.
The next day at Sabrina’s office, she received an email from Martin. It was a sample contract so she read the content, her eyes widening at the offer, which seemed to be too good to be true. She quickly called her father on the phone since he had left the office to meet one of his clients.
"Dad, the contract seems too good. I forwarded it to your email," Sabrina chimed as soon as the line connected.
"I will check it and get back to you," her father responded before hanging up.
A few minutes later, he called back. "Tell him to send the hard copies and sign them as soon as it arrives."
Sabrina frowned, as she expected her father to act more cautiously before signing the contract. She asked, "You don’t think that we should involve the lawyers?"
"Not yet but for the next one, scrutinize it better," her father advised. He was working with experience that Sabrina was yet to have. She continued to say,
"Okay. Seventy percent shares are quite too much for the amount we are investing."
"You will soon understand but do as I say," her father said calmly, she agreed.
"Okay."
Sabrina hung up and called Martin directly. "You can send the hard copy but don’t you think the offer is too much?" She asked curiously, wondering what Martin was up to. He explained causally,
"I told your brother before. The highest beneficiary of this contract is you."
Sabrina smiled and said, "I will take the deal."
"I will bring the documents myself but how about I treat you to a good meal?" Martin pushed his luck, expecting her to refuse.
"It’s already lunchtime so I will not refuse."
***
Robin was thinking about Sabrina in preparation for his new whore from yesterday. She arrived as he arranged,
"Get in and undress!" He ordered her.
The girl obeyed and Robin picked a pack of condoms from his drawer. He was about to join her when his phone rang.
Reluctantly, he answered it since it was Zayla. Since she had moved back to the penthouse, Robin was solely responsible for her so he was disturbed and asked,
"Zayla, is everything alright?"
There was an arrow of excitement glazing her voice which Robin could neither put a finger on nor understand.
"Yes, but I don’t know if you got the news."
Robin did not respond so she figured that he did not understand. "Check the celebrity news channel."
Robin frowned. He was very busy and aside from business and political news, he hardly checked the celebrity’s channel. Besides, he was so eager to have that release.
"Zayla, I’m very busy."
"It’s about Sabrina and her new boyfriend," Zayla let out. She did not want Robin to miss it and this time, no one would know about her involvement.
Sabrina’s ex-boyfriend must have forced her to take down the news but this time, nobody would since nothing would point to her.
"I’m not interested,"
Robin responded bluntly, while he recalled Devin bragging about Sabrina in his bed. No, the more she stayed away from anything to do with them, the better.
Zayla was dismayed but how could she let her hard work be in vain? Also, how would she get Robin angry with Sabrina enough to make her return the documents to the villa? No. Robin had to watch.
"I don’t mean the one who slapped me. She kind of cheated on that old one with the one we met at the restaurant," Zayla tried her best to explain the situation since Robin seemed to be more and more impatient about it all.
"Robin, why don’t you check the details on the news?" Zayla asked in frustration.
Time was already ticking and this was life. However, she had paid for rebroadcast so she just had to patiently convince Robin to tune in to the channel.
While she spoke, she muted her tv for Robin to have a clear understanding of her words.
Robin did not want to watch something that would spoil his mood but not wanting to offend Zayla, he turned on the LED flat screen in his office.
"I don’t understand what you are saying Zayla, but if it’s important, let me check."
Zayla was excited because this was going to make him hate Sabrina and she could ask for the villa. She hung up before Robin changed to the celebrity channel and his eyes grew darker and darker at the news.
Chapter 37: Chapter 37 – The latest news.
"This is for the most beautiful woman in the world," Martin walked in with a bouquet of flowers and handed it over to Sabrina.
"Not again, Martin," Sabrina smiled while receiving the bouquet. She did not know how long it was going to take but she figured to just get used to it from Martin’s response,
"Beautiful women should be spoiled with flowers each day. Sadly, this is just a business lunch. Shall we go now?" Martin pouted before stretching his hand towards Sabrina.
"Sure." Sabrina took his hand after arranging the flowers in a vase.
Reaching the restaurant, they talked about the contract over lunch and Sabrina ended up signing the documents.
Martin signed his portion as well and gave her two of the original copies, while he kept two.
"I must say that it’s a pleasure doing business with you," Martin beamed. Sabrina responded with a curt smile,
"Same here, Mr. Dane."
Martin frowned imperceptibly, "If you keep calling me that, we might blow up our disguise."
"You have a point," Sabrina nodded her head and spoke. By the time Robin realized that Devin was her brother, he would think she was dating Martin so when the pregnancy began to show, he would not have any claim to it. From Sabrina’s plan, she was ready to be a single mother.
Martin was happy to have claimed a first date, wanting to make a good impression so as not to make her regret it.
"We should be leaving now. I know you are a very busy woman." Time was money and as expected, Sabrina was grateful for Martin’s thoughtfulness.
"Thank you, Martin."
As soon as they reached the entrance, they were swarmed by reporters.
"Mrs. Jewel, we heard the news about Zayla Chance and your husband, though it was taken down within the early hours of yesterday," the reporter narrated.
He was very careful with his choice of words since neither Robin nor Sabrina had publicly declared to be divorced. It was wise to still address Sabrina by her ex-husband’s name, irrespective of what Zayla had said.
"Taken down?"
Sabrina was surprised and said it was allowed. Devin had no intention of telling her since Sabrina would ask questions, and he would not have an answer, which would make her upset. The revelation seemed like a cold relief from a sprain.
"You seem surprised. Were you, not the one who ordered it to be taken down?" One of the reporters observed and spoke.
Martin saw Sabrina’s boldness in front of the media for which reason he did not attempt to stop them from asking questions.
It was even better this way since it would save them trouble during the party, where reporters would be everywhere, looking for gossip.
"I know nothing about it," Sabrina honestly said.
"Mrs. Jewel..." Another reporter was saying when Sabrina quickly cut her off.
"Sabrina James is the name," she clarified. The reporter had a stunned look on her face at the fact that even though Sabrina never appeared in public with Robin from the time his father died, she seemed to have great confidence in front of the media. This was something that most stars even struggled with.
"Is it true that you are barren and could not give Mr. Robin Jewel a child for which reason he divorced you?"
Another reporter asked. Sabrina was about to agree.
She wanted to tell them to believe everything they heard about her without wasting time to verify since she did not have the time to go around defending herself but Martin took charge.
He wanted to prove to her that he could protect her at any and every given time.
"Enough! She is not obligated to answer your questions," he said coldly. His voice carried authority so the attention was shifted to him when he pulled Sabrina securely to his side with his arms firmly around her waist.
"Mr. Martin Dane, are you and Mrs.... Sorry, Miss James acquaintances?" A reporter asked and the rest nodded.
Martin smiled a little and said, "No, we were friends for a while but leveled up a few days ago."
There were wonder gasps from the news as one reporter tried to get the meaning of Martin’s words,
"You mean the two of you?"
"She is my girlfriend. We have to leave now," Martin said and was leading Sabrina away when the reporters ran to catch up with them. One of them asked,
"Are you aware that she’s barren and won’t be able to give you children?"
Martin chuckled and said directly, "My girlfriend is not barren and I will prove it to everyone. Come back for an interview in the next two months and I will have a doctor’s report to prove it."
Sabrina smiled when the understanding sunk in that he was clearing the air for the news about her pregnancy. That way, no one would ask who the father of the child was. Smart move and Sabrina could not be more grateful.
"Then how can you explain her inability to conceive for the past three years?" A reporter paid by Zayla asked. Martin shrugged and said,
"How will I know? I am not a doctor or maybe, she and Robin were just not compatible. Or, he must have done it with too many women, that his sperm became weak. I just said maybe, don’t take it literally."
Sabrina could not stifle it, bursting into laughter, as did some of the genuine reporters.
Zayla’s paid reporter was not amused and asked, "How can you explain Miss Chance’s pregnancy then?"
Again, Martin said directly, "Well, I don’t have proof, but the fact that she is pregnant does not mean Robin is responsible. If you ask me, why not have a DNA test after her child is born? The bitch is nothing but a whore."
Seeing that Martin’s words might put them into trouble, no one was willing to ask any more questions but seeing their shocked expressions, Martin decided to clarify,
"Everything I said today has nothing to do with Sabrina. If anyone has a problem, they should come to me. I take responsibility for my words and actions so please excuse us. We have a busy day ahead," Martin concluded and walked past them.
No one dared to question him again and Sabrina could not be happier. Most people knew Devin so their fake relationship would not have survived this.
’Smash!’
Robin threw his phone and it hit the LED screen in his office, it broke and the interface turned black.
Chapter 38: Chapter 38 – The confusion after the storm
Robin called Aria on the intercom. "I need a new phone and a new LED screen."
Aria did not respond, quickly rushing to the office to see the damage caused. "Give me your phone," Robin demanded when he saw her.
Aria was reluctant after the man had destroyed two phones in less than two weeks but unlocked and handed it over before walking away.
Robin could have used the land line but Aria could listen to their conversation for which reason he decided to use her phone. Also, if her phone was not with her, she would hasten the process of getting him the new one.
Dialing Daniel’s number, Robin spoke without pleasantries, "Dan, I want you to get someone to investigate Martin Dane and you still have not given me anything about Sabrina’s health record," he pointed out, not hiding his rage.
Daniel was conversant with Aria’s number so he was not surprised to receive a call from it. Only he did not think he’d be speaking to Robin.
Robin knew that Martin was attacking him directly. How dare he embarrass him so publicly. His sperms? Sabrina had mocked him with it before and he felt that it was not an accident.
Sabrina must have bad-mouthed Robin in front of Martin but Zayla, what did Martin mean by her being a whore?
Sabrina was divorced for barely two weeks now yet this was her second boyfriend and Martin dared to call Zayla a whore, asking for a paternity test after Robin’s child was born? Was he insane? Robin’s mood was ruined and he was not going to take it lightly.
"I wanted to phone you about it earlier but I got busy. Since you asked, here it is. She did not go to the hospital for a check-up but to visit a doctor’s friend. Sorry, there is nothing on her health record."
Robin was disappointed. Something inside of him wished that Sabrina was indeed pregnant with his child as he had thought but now, there was nothing. If Sabrina indeed got pregnant within the two months as the asshole had said, most fingers would point at Robin. Ah, his mind was in shambles.
"And her ex-boyfriend?"
"Oh, you heard the news already? I still don’t have a name for the guy Robin. It was even hard to get the information on Sabrina since she goes by her maiden name now."
"I thought she was a decent woman. Not up to two weeks, she already dumped a guy and got hooked on his friend."
"How do you know they are friends?" Daniel asked. Perhaps, that information might just help him to get what he was looking for.
"I saw the three of them together before," Robin informed.
"Good luck Robin. I will keep trying to get a name for her ex-boyfriend," Daniel said before hanging up.
Robin recalled the woman waiting for him and breathed deeply. Sex was a perfect relief from stress. He tried to use the same method as he did yesterday but this time, all he kept seeing was Sabrina in the arms of that Martin Dane smiling like an angel when she just proved to have no self-worth.
"Please Mr. President, you are hurting me."
Robin’s thoughts were interrupted by the cries of the woman beneath him.
"Shut the fuck up!" He raged and pulled out, just as he ordered,
"Get out!"
At the penthouse, Zayla shivered mercilessly, regretting calling Robin to watch the news. That man Martin Dane was worse than Sabrina’s ex.
While Zayla wallowed in the thought of how the news was going to affect her image, her phone rang. Seeing her mother’s name, she was not ready for another bashful chastisement and refused to answer.
The call ended and began to ring again. She thought it was her mother and was about to press the silence button when she saw her father’s name. Quickly, her finger slid over the answer button.
"Zayla, have you seen what you have caused?" Her father was upset. Zayla did not inform him before the interview but when it went in their favor, he did not complain. When a problem arose, he pinned it back on her.
"Dad, what do we do?"
Zayla was helpless. Since she was in these cahoots with her father, he had to find a solution. How could she have known that this guy would cause so much trouble?
"Robin is not a fool. He will investigate. Focus on the villa and get out of there," her father advised from the end of the line but Zayla frowned deeply. If she got the villa for him, then what about her? However, she could not directly refuse.
"Alright, dad, but I love him."
From her tone, her father sensed she was not willing to comply.
"Zayla, If you mess things up, you are on your own. Why did you have to mention his ex-wife in the interview? That was the genesis of your problems," her father jagged out.
"I thought that upsetting her would force her to return the documents to the villa," Zayla explained. her father let out a frustrated sigh at the end of the line before saying,
"It seems she isn’t alone. She has men watching out for her."
"Who are they?"
Zayla asked, recalling that Robin had asked her. If she could at least provide the name of Sabrina’s ex-boyfriend, Robin could deal with him on her behalf.
"Martin Dane is Sabrina’s brother’s best friend."
Zayla was shocked. Her friendship with Sabrina did not last long so there were so many things she did not know about her. This revelation was too shocking.
"Sabrina has a brother?"
"Yes, and a sister."
"Do you have an image of him?" Zayla asked with shaky hands.
"Hold on, I’ll send it to you."
When Zayla received the image, her eyes almost popped out of the socket.
"He...he..."
"What is it, Zayla?" Her father was disturbed that something was happening to her.
"He was the one pretending to be her boyfriend. We met them at the restaurant before and he slapped me yesterday."
"He slapped you?" The middle-aged man was furious at the end of the line. Only he had the right to slap his daughter, nobody else.
"Yes, and forced me to take down the news about Sabrina."
"Then Robin should not know. Let him keep the impression that Sabrina is not a decent woman and use it to your advantage," her father advised.
"Okay dad," Zayla sighed defeatedly. It seemed to her that Sabrina was always a step ahead. Now, she could not expose Sabrina’s brother because Robin would know that Sabrina had not moved on as early as he thought.
Three days later, Robin received a call from Daniel. "I sent you everything you need to know about Martin Dane."
Chapter 39: Chapter 39 – Nothing without his sister
A wry smile stretched Robin’s lips at the news but he had a little reservation on what he was looking for.
"Are you sure?"
"Check your email. Mind you, this information was not easy to get. I had to hack into his personal server because there is no news about him anywhere, except that he is the CEO of Dane & Co," Daniel revealed tactically before adding in a whisper, as if they were sitting next to each other.
"And Robin, he has been obsessed with Sabrina since he was ten."
Robin’s grip tightened around his new phone when he opened the attached file and thought allowed,
"They went to the same school?"
Robin was confused and slightly uneasy when he asked the question. Obsession was a bullet that drew great men insane.
"Yes, but he was Sabrina’s senior so she did not know him. Everything there was written in his handwriting. A secret he kept away from everyone. There was a second part but I was booted out of the server room before I got it."
"Nevertheless, I don’t think the second part would carry anything of interest to you since this has everything about his relationship with Sabrina, as you wanted. Your ex-wife had a secret admirer and you just pushed her into his arms."
"And he has a handicapped sister?"
Robin was so furious; he did not want to respond to the last part of Daniel’s discovery. Daniel was a hacker but was usually very busy and mostly had people to do the work for him. With this, he seemed to have done all the work by himself.
"Well, this information is from his secret files and it shows that his late parents willed everything to his handicapped sister and without her signature, he becomes powerless. Due to that, he does everything she wants but that is the problem."
"I think you know something else which is not stated in the email you sent to me," Robin probed. Daniel paused for a while before responding,
"There is no proof to this but after a critical analysis of the story we have now, I guess that Sabrina’s life can be in danger if Martin’s so-called sister hates her.
If she tells Martin to kill Sabrina, he would have no choice, and don’t also forget that he is nothing without his handicapped sister whom he keeps a secret from the public’s eye."
The corner of Robin’s lips curled up and he asked thoughtfully, "Then why don’t we get this sister of his to get him away from Sabrina?"
"That is the point. There is nothing about his sister. Her existence is only in his personal archives, for which reason no one knows her whereabouts."
Robin chuckled and shook his head. If he had a sister whose existence was of such great importance to him, he could never keep her away from him, except,
"She will be living with him," Robin voiced his thoughts from his side of the line.
Daniel knew there was sense in what Robin said but that also opened the door to another problem.
"Since he is a company owner, we can only track his whereabouts from the party. Don’t forget that no businessman would miss the borough president’s birthday party. I will get someone to install a tracker on his car, and then we can take it from there."
Being close with renewed hope, Robin vowed, "Okay, I think it’s time to prepare for this party. I plan to teach Martin a lesson he would never forget."
"I’ll be there to support you since I don’t like the guy," Daniel said in support. At his side of the line, he was grinning like a fool.
"That makes two of us and who are you attending with?" Robin asked since Daniel never had a girlfriend. To him, it was better to not make commitments. That way, no one would, later on, accuse him of breaking their hearts.
"Any random girl and what about you? Oh, you have Zayla so I don’t have to worry about getting a girl for you," Daniel responded.
"You have to. I would prefer any random girl I haven’t fucked yet to Zayla," Robin said, indirectly requesting one but Daniel was reluctant about this arrangement, asking,
"Won’t that be an insult and a pain to Zayla? Don’t forget that she’s pregnant. It’s also very easy for pregnant women to fall into depression and Zayla won’t be able to take it like Sabrina did. Not after she announced your engagement," Daniel dropped a reminder but Robin stood his ground.
"She should have laid low."
Daniel disagreed once again, "Maybe I agree with her that you are too slow."
"I’m trying to direct my emotions towards her but she keeps messing it up with her insecurities. Alright, I will go with her," Robin gave up and spoke. Daniel smiled in response,
"If we don’t touch base again, then I’ll see you at the party."
After ending the call, Robin called Zayla on the phone to make arrangements concerning the party since he had not pre-informed her.
"Zayla, I have to attend the Borough president’s birthday party over the weekend. Will you be able to come?"
He made it an open invitation to not look like he was forcing her. Robin preferred dealing with his whores whom he could just impose what he wanted and pay them afterwards but it was not the same with Zayla.
"Yes Darling, I won’t miss it for anything," Zayla responded with excitement. This was the first time Robin had requested to take her to any public event which seemed like a big deal to her.
"Okay, just remember to look your best. I will pick you up on the day of the event," Robin said and was about to end the call on his mobile phone, since his intercom began ringing but Zayla could not wrap her head around what he just said. Dismay wrapped her words,
"Are you not coming home?"
Robin was just conceding that he had not told her and did not know how to say it without offending her.
Chapter 40: Chapter 40 – A girl of one-night stands
"I forgot to tell you earlier that I will be traveling for a few days but I will be back to pick you up for the party," he said in a slightly apologetic tone. Zayla could not hide her dismay even if she tried.
Her presence in Robin’s life seemed ineffective because they felt drawn apart. If not, how could he leave the same house they slept together, to tell her on the phone that he was traveling?
"Robin and you are just telling me? I was planning a surprise for you tonight and you ruined it."
"I’m sorry Zayla, but you should know by now that impromptu things like this happen with the nature of my work," he explained.
"So did you just decide right now that you had to go on a business trip?" Zayla asked in a tear-filled voice.
Robin was not liking this. Sabrina never complained if he informed her a minute before dinner time that he would not be coming home but Zayla?
Robin was not used to handling cry babies and Zayla felt like a handful.
"Zayla, things like this will always happen but I will always do my best to inform you as much as I can," he said in a slightly raised tone, she shivered slightly,
"Okay."
Since Robin was not coming home, Zayla could not endure the loneliness of the penthouse. She wanted to go home but without the documents to the villa, her father would be pissed with her, and her mother’s ceaseless probing would not stop. As such, she decided to spend a few days with her best friend, Zeresh.
Reaching her best friend’s apartment, she pressed the doorbell for the umpteenth time without success since her friend was not answering her calls either. It had begun to drizzle and she was about to return when she heard the sound of the key lock.
"Zayla!"
Zeresh stepped out and closed the door behind her. She was in a towel robe with her hair disheveled, and she was all sweaty.
"I wasn’t expecting you."
"I meant to surprise you. Why? Can’t I come in?"
Zayla frowned at how weird Zeresh was behaving. A few weeks ago, Zeresh was the one begging her to come over and just when she did, she was not even allowed in.
"Sorry, but I’m quite busy, Zayla."
"We are best friends, Zeresh, I can help you with anything you are busy with,"
Zayla walked past her and opened the door when her jaws dropped.
"Are you fucking two men?"
Zayla was shocked but also recognized one of the men and her heart was pounding wildly in her chest.
"It’s called a threesome, Zayla, it’s fun. I’m just afraid of Robin and if not, I would have asked you to join,"
Zeresh mumbled, not noticing the changes in the appearance of Zayla and one of the men she knew before.
"I...I will see you another time,"
Zayla said and ran out of her friend’s apartment. Her friend was about to chase after her when the man called her,
"Let her go, do you want to get into trouble with Robin?"
"Do you know her?" Zeresh asked suspiciously, due to how the man mentioned Robin.
"It was just a one-night stand," the man winked.
"Ready for round two?"
A few days later.
"Robin, you came," Zayla was elated to see Robin at the door even when he had pre-informed her. She hugged him tightly and shed a few tears.
Ever since meeting that man she never thought she’d meet again; she was afraid that he might expose, their one night.
Not even her father knew that she had a few one-nights before meeting Robin again. Usually, Zayla never bumped into them as she did that night.
"I said I will come but isn’t that dress too revealing? Don’t forget that you are pregnant,"
Robin complained as soon as he took in the design of the dress. If it was worn by any of his whores, he wouldn’t have cared but this was the soon-to-be mother of his child for which he was very much concerned.
"If you don’t like it, then come and choose what you like,"
Zayla led him up the stairs to her room. Since Robin left, he called once every morning with the same monotonous question,
"How are you and the growing baby?"
Zayla felt like if not for the pregnancy, Robin would not care for her at all.
"Okay,"
Robin took up the challenge and began to check the dresses in her closet, pushing aside every dress that had the ’S’ letter to it. He wanted to present her as a keeper.
"Here, this is much better."
Zayla was annoyed, regretting giving him the chance to choose an outfit for her. As Robin’s woman, she wanted all eyes to be on her but that dress would make her look invisible.
"Robin, that dress is too bland."
"But it gives you a decent look. Don’t forget that Martin Dane will be there and most probably, Sabrina too. I want everyone to know that my woman is decent," he explained.
Zayla laughed internally. For as long as this was what Robin desired from his woman, then she was fine with it.
"Alright, if you say so."
She changed right in front of him, thinking that her sexy body would attract him to make a move but when she finished dressing and awaited his opinion, he was merely lifting his head from his phone.
"There, you look beautiful."
Robin had not seen a thing and Zayla hid the pain that he did not care to take advantage of her femininity. Swallowing the dismay, she drank in the complement and joined her hand to his, while he led her out of the penthouse to the car.
Arriving at the party, a valet took the car key after Robin stepped out and opened the door for Zayla. The valet greeted and welcomed them politely before going to park the car for him at the underground car park.
They entered the elevator to the rooftop where the party was being held.
As soon as the doors of the elevator slid open, there stood Sabrina, looking like she owned the night with a gorgeous sparkling diamond around her neck while Martin Dane stood protectively beside her like the possessive boyfriend.
Robin gulped by the mere sight of her while Zayla’s eyes dropped, feeling embarrassed by her keeper look.
