Ch. 71..75: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 71-75
Chapter 71: Chapter 71 – Doing an amazing job
Two days later, Martin visited Sabrina in her office with flowers. Sabrina was used to receiving his flowers every morning but she was surprised that he came to deliver it by himself today. Her voice sounded surprised,
"Martin!"
"Sabrina. You don’t look happy to see me," Martin observed and spoke.
He was saddened to see her like that and realized that she was still upset because of what Zayla said to her. Sabrina was a decent woman so it was not surprising that Zayla’s words would still take a toll on her, especially when Robin had stopped her from teaching the bitch a lesson.
"I am just under duress," Sabrina said with a forced smile.
In a way, she blamed Martin because if they had just left without him trying to confront Robin, Zayla would not have had the chance to say those mean things to Sabrina.
"Wanna talk about it?" Martin asked worriedly.
He wanted to put back that smile and excitement on her face before their ruined date.
Sabrina was still certain that whatever Martin discussed with Robin was very important for which reason he went to speak to him.
"No, I’m still worried about what you discussed with Robin," Sabrina said honestly, Martin felt uneasy upon realizing that she did not believe what he said earlier but how could he let her know their discussion?
Even if he left out the part about Mara, he would still be revealing to Sabrina that Robin cared about her, which would not be good for him.
"Sabrina, you don’t believe me? It was nothing important," he insisted, Sabrina shook her head and resigned,
"You won’t tell me. So why are you here?" She asked seriously.
Martin went across to give the flowers to her but with the reluctance she took to receiving it, his heart sank even more.
"You are upset," he observed and spoke. Sabrina was annoyed and quickly said,
"I already said I was under duress."
Martin set the new documents before her and announced whiles sitting on a chair in front of her,
"Well, there is good news. Our first contract picked up so this is the one for the second stage."
With her father’s words still registered in her mind, Sabrina was not ready to sign anything from Martin without her father’s approval.
"Do you mind if I go through it and sign it a little later? I received some other proposals and six more multinational companies are willing to partner with us," she revealed. Martin was elated. Any increase in JC Minerals was an automatic increase for his company too.
"You have done an amazing job," he complimented her. Sabrina forced a smile before she responded,
"I guess so."
She did not feel the need to give the details of how stressful everything was and the fact that she would have to attend meetings in each of those companies beginning the next week.
The road to success was indeed a bumpy one and she wondered how Robin had so much time to be fucking around when his company was much larger than hers.
Suddenly, she felt annoyed to have even thought of him. All she wanted to do was hate and stay away from him. She also wished to never bump into him again, even by accident.
"You don’t look happy," Martin observed and pointed out again. Already being partners, there was no need to keep it to herself so Sabrina revealed,
"They all keep referring to Robin. He is the reason why they want to partner with me and though their offers are good, I’m still thinking about it."
Martin looked displeased and it registered in his voice. They did not have a contract forbidding either of them to partner with others but Robin being in the picture, made him very uncomfortable.
"Won’t it be better if you don’t partner with them?"
Sabrina was considering the same thing since she wanted nothing to do with Robin but this was beyond her. Concerning partnerships, she never approved any without her father’s consent.
"It’s still under discussion with my dad. You know he’s my boss."
Martin was saddened because his influence ended with Devin and Sabrina. He could not influence their father because of how distant he was towards him.
"Whatever you decide to do, please let me know," he said and rose to his feet. He had forgotten about Sabrina’s father in all his earlier plans for which reason he thought it wise to change it a little.
"Sure, Sure, I will," Sabrina agreed while her gaze remained on her laptop.
"What about lunch?" Martin asked, looking at how busy she was. He would not be surprised if she skipped it which would not be good for her condition.
"I told Devin to get me lunch later. I won’t have the time to go out," she absentmindedly responded.
"Please don’t stress yourself, Sabrina. You know your condition," Martin said and she stilled for a while before replying,
"Thank you for reminding me." Indeed, she had forgotten that she needed to eat healthily for her child. Work was quite overwhelming now.
***
At the Jewels Group of Companies
A skimpily dressed woman with blonde hair stood in front of Robin’s office reception whiles saying to the secretary,
"Good morning, Mr. Jewel called me to come."
Aria was surprised because Robin seemed busy today and had not requested any of his whores. Moreover, he had not visited the club for some time too.
Playing safe, she decided to check the emails and calendar to see if she missed anything.
"What is your name? I have to confirm," she asked while checking her database. The woman standing in front of her desk was clothed in unease and seemed to be in a hurry.
"You are so sloppy. I don’t have time to waste. Tell your boss that the woman he called is here. I just hope you don’t get fired," she threatened strongly, Aria was confused.
The woman’s attitude was different from the way she was dressed and Aria was at a loss.
Chapter 72: Chapter 72 – Robin outsmarting Matilda
Aria wondered who this woman was. If she sent her in when her boss was indeed not aware, then that would be incompetence on her part but if she also refused and she happened to indeed be an important guest to the boss, then she would be in trouble.
She swallowed her fears since she was certain that her boss had not called anyone. She picked the intercom, at the same time the woman frowned and cautioned,
"You don’t have my name so what are you going to say?"
Aria dropped the phone, glanced at the woman again, and went to her boss’s office. When she opened the door, the woman followed discreetly and pushed her, the two of them entered the office together.
The force nearly sent Aria to the floor if not for the woman who had stilled her. Robin lifted his head from what he was doing and annoyance flashed in his eyes.
"What is this supposed to mean, Aria?"
Aria’s heart thumped. "Sir, she said,"
"I came to see you, Mr. Jewel. It’s about Sabrina," the woman cut in.
Aria realized that the woman did not have an appointment, fearing what her boss was going to do. He might think that she was incompetent and had not done her job well but his response was calmer from his explosion before.
"You can excuse us, Aria," Robin said before he looked at the figure in front of him again and said after Aria stepped out and closed the door, "I never thought Sabrina had a friend. Moreso, one who dresses like..."
"One of your whores?" The woman responded sarcastically before adding, "What other way would I get to see you without an appointment?"
Robin could not get angry because of her mention of Sabrina.
"What do you want?" He asked directly.
"I’m here because you hurt Sabrina two days ago," the woman said angrily, Robin chuckled. He thought she had come to tell him something important but only realized she was there to talk about old matters.
"So, stopping her from hitting my pregnant girlfriend after she already hit her twice makes me vile?" Robin asked sarcastically, not bothering to offer the woman a seat.
Earlier, he thought that Aria must have taken the initiative to get him a woman who could satisfy him when he saw the woman but now, that intent was gone.
"Your girlfriend has a sharp tongue," the woman said seriously. Robin shook his head, not knowing why he was even wasting his precious time on her.
"What she said to Sabrina was mean and I tried to call Sabrina to apologize on her behalf but guess what, her number was not going through. I guess she changed it," he sneered.
He was surprised that Sabrina asked for the divorce and after he gave it, she treated him as if he was the initiator of everything. Can’t exes remain friends? It did not seem so with Sabrina.
When he said that he wanted to apologize, the woman’s gaze softened but her words were still stern.
"I hope you were not expecting her to keep her old line active."
"So, are you going to give me her new number or you’ll just keep calling me out?" Robin asked quizzically before he remembered to not have asked for her name.
"Now what are you called?"
"Matilda," the woman quickly responded.
The name did not ring a bell but then again, Robin had not even known about Sabrina’s sister and half-brother until recently.
"Sabrina never told me about any of her friends. Now sit and please dress properly when you come to my office next time."
Matilda accepted and sat on a chair in front of him whiles she said calmly,
"I don’t think there will be a next time but like I said before, this is my only way to see you. I had to pretend."
"It’s good you are just pretending," he glanced at her again and spoke. If not, he would be concerned for someone like Sabrina to have a friend like this.
However, Robin would always take advantage of every situation so he asked,
"So, if you won’t give me her number, then what do you want?"
"A favor,"
Matilda swallowed tightly, never thinking that Robin was this intimidating. His dominance could force anyone to do his bidding.
"What kind?" Robin asked and she was surprised that he gave her his full attention. Matilda was running against time so she could not miss the opportunity to get her cards on the table before it was too late. She spoke hastily,
"I know that Martin is a good man but he has an evil sister. Devin would not hear that Martin has a sister and he warned me to not say such things to Sabrina."
Robin frowned and asked her, "So what do you want me to do? She is just my ex-wife."
He did not want her to know what he was doing in secret to protect Sabrina but also hoped to get some information from her since she claims to be Sabrina’s best friend. Hearing her talk about Martin, Robin did not doubt it.
"Protect her and you won’t regret it," she said seriously.
Robin wanted to tell her that he was already protecting Sabrina but then how would he be able to get anything from her? As to exactly what he wanted, he did not know it himself.
He just felt that she had something to offer even if she had not mentioned it.
"Why should I protect her? We are already divorced and she never got pregnant for me," he said while observing how Matilda’s expression changed to the word, ’pregnant’ and he smiled.
While he gazed intently at her, Matilda lost her defenses in the staring contest and ended up lowering her gaze. She broke her silence and said,
"It’s not in my place to reveal things about my best friend but you will regret it if you don’t protect her.
Chapter 73: Chapter 73 – Considering a lifestyle change
Robin was smart enough to deduce from Matilda’s coded words that Sabrina was indeed pregnant as he suspected and his heart warmed.
For the man he was and dealing with a lot of shrewd people, it was easy for him to get answers even from facial expressions.
Sabrina could hide hers very well but not Matilda. She seemed afraid of Robin, for which reason he could see through her like a glass.
"If you are Sabrina’s friend, then how come I never saw you during our three years of marriage?" He asked. Matilda felt that if she indeed proved that she was Sabrina’s best friend, then Robin would agree to protect Sabrina.
"After getting married to you, Sabrina locked everyone out." When Matilda saw that his interest in the subject matter peaked, she paused and clarified, "Just so you know, I’m not your fan. I hate the fact that you can’t keep to one woman," she said coldly and Robin smiled bitterly.
He could feel that she was speaking on behalf of Sabrina, exposing the pain her best friend was going through.
"And yet you ask for my help. Why can’t you do the protection then, best friend?" Robin mocked sarcastically, Matilda bit her lips to suppress her irritation.
Since she needed his help, she was at his mercy and revealed truthfully,
"I have a bad reputation so until my name is cleared, I can’t show my face in public."
"But you are showing me your face," Robin observed and replied. It seemed to him that his ex-wife has an interesting best friend.
Matilda felt helpless, feeling that Robin was not taking her seriously. She explained frustratedly,
"This is a disguised look. I don’t have blonde hair and this is a wig. My face is also covered with heavy make-up."
Robin frowned upon realizing where the problem lay.
"So how do I find you?" He asked seriously, getting back to his business mood.
"Even if you try, you won’t. Martin and Devin rescued me from my father’s house but are yet to clear my name. Please protect Sabrina from Mara, that is all I ask. I know that you have the resources," she said and rose to her feet.
Hearing that she was relying on Devin to clear her name was fine but Martin? That did not sit well with Robin. Martin already had Devin’s support so to win over Sabrina’s best friend as well would not be good so he asked,
"You could at least give me your full name."
"Matilda Saint."
Matilda was already at the door when Robin frowned upon recollecting the name and revealed,
"Oh, you were arrested for drugs before."
Matilda turned around and looked him in the eyes before she smiled bitterly and revealed,
"I knew nothing about it but I know that you won’t believe me. Look, I have to go before Devin finds out that I left his penthouse."
She turned to the door again but Robin stopped her before she could open it. At least he knew where she lived for now but that did not guarantee that he could get information from her any time he wanted it.
"How can I see you again? I want to talk more about Sabrina."
Matilda turned around and shook her head,
"I don’t know, I can’t tell."
Robin smiled because he was excited at the information he got earlier and thought to ask her directly,
"Tell me one thing, is Sabrina pregnant?"
"You didn’t hear it from me," Matilda pressed her lips together, about to hasten out to avoid more questions when he asked again,
"Wait, is the child she’s carrying mine?"
"I can’t betray my best friend. Goodbye Mr. Jewel, and please don’t forget your promise," Matilda said and run out of the office.
"Wait, I didn’t promise anything!" Robin yelled but she was already gone.
Matilda’s presence made him happy. Now he confirmed for a fact that Sabrina was pregnant for him. Robin could not believe that wanting one child, he had two now. Quickly, he dialed Daniel’s number.
"Dan, I need you to do something right now. A lady just walked out of my office. Red dress with blonde hair. It’s not her real identity but I still want you to wipe every evidence of her being here," Robin said hastily over the phone.
He was surprised when Daniel began to get sarcastic with him.
"Another whore?"
"She’s not a whore. She’s Sabrina’s best friend," Robin quickly defended, not hiding his excitement.
"You are fucking your ex-wife’s best friend too?"
Daniel was shocked at the end of the line and asked but Robin was getting upset that he was not doing as told.
The more time he wasted, the greatest risk of Matilda being caught leaving the penthouse and he did not want that.
She came to him for help and he would do just that. Robin was happy that Devin did not believe her concerning Mara, for which reason he had the opportunity to hear this wonderful news.
"Shut up and start working Dan," Robin screamed impatiently on the phone.
"I already am," Daniel retorted. He was at the office and got to business while he kept taunting Robin alongside.
"Hack into Devin’s cameras in his house and wipe any traces of her going in and out of the house," Robin instructed again whiles waiting on the phone for Daniel to give him a timeline.
After two minutes, he was amazed by Daniel’s response,
"Done."
"That was fast," Robin said with a smile, grateful for Daniel’s speed.
"Have you forgotten that Devin is already on our track list?" Daniel asked, revealing the reason why he could get it done so quickly.
"Good. Now I need detailed information on Matilda Saint," Robin put in his final request.
"Your new girlfriend?" Daniel taunted him again; Robin shook his head.
Recalling the pain he saw in Matilda’s eyes which he equated to how Sabrina was feeling, he considered staying away from his whores for now.
Chapter 74: Chapter 74 – Could Robin be so kind?
Robin feared that Sabrina might go into depression and what if it affected his child? Robin was ready to make the Sacrifice for the sake of their unborn child.
"She is Sabrina’s best friend," he stated once more to Daniel, so he’d get serious. He knew about Daniel’s liking of Sabrina as compared to Zayla.
Even with the hotel incident, he had encouraged Daniel to come but he refused because Robin had said he was bringing Zayla along.
"That would take a while," Daniel said on the phone after a few seconds.
"Make it faster," Robin pressured. Martin swallowed a lump in his throat. Robin was his most difficult client. He always wanted everything fast but they were also best friends.
"I will try my best but Robin, what is this interest?" Daniel asked on the phone while he continued to search for what Robin had required of him.
"Sabrina is pregnant. Her best friend confirmed it. Of course, no one must know about it," Robin said excitedly, Daniel realized that he was not this excited about the news of Zayla’s pregnancy.
To taunt Robin once more, Daniel asked again,
"Did she also confirm that it was yours?"
Robin frowned in annoyance and responded, "She said she could not betray her best friend."
"That means it’s yours," Daniel cracked the code too and Robin’s excitement increased.
"Of course, but you already informed me about her relationship with Devin and Martin so even if she didn’t, it would still be only mine," he said possessively, Daniel could not help being happier.
Since Robin had an attachment to Sabrina, it only meant that Daniel would have more opportunities to see Lizzy too.
"So, are you going to see her?" Daniel wanted to make it a point to go with Robin if he responded in the affirmative, to have the opportunity to see Lizzy.
"No. If I do that, it would be suspicious. I will strike during her next antenatal."
Robin was more confident now than before, happy to have trusted his instinct all this while. Sabrina might want to be away from him but sadly, he was going to ensure that she sees his face every morning, so their child looks exactly like him or so he thought.
"Congratulations on having two unborn babies!" Daniel screamed from the end of the line, Robin replied
,
"Thank you."
Then he hung up. His mood for the day was completely transformed after Matilda’s visit.
***
At JC clothing, Devin received a call.
"Mr. Cage, I saw a blonde woman coming out and going into your penthouse."
Devin was relaxed. His sisters were all blondes.
"That should be my sister..." He paused, recalling that Lizzy was dropped at his office by his dad while Devin picked and dropped Sabrina so technically, it could not be either of them. "Wait, I dropped her in her office earlier."
"That is why I thought to inform you," his spy informed him. Devin wondered who the blonde-haired woman was and what she was after. He feared that Matilda’s father must have equally sent a spy.
"Alright, thank you," he said and ended the call, instantly dialing the landline number.
At the same time, Matilda walked in. She had discarded the red dress and wig, entering in a hot pant and tank top she wore under the dress.
It was the only dress she picked when she was escaping from her father’s mansion since it was the only gift she received from the man who complicated her.
It brought painful memories but she didn’t know why she kept it. Hearing the phone ring, she only guessed three people. Sabrina, Lizzy, or Devin.
"Hello,"
"Matilda, did any woman come into the house?" Devin asked worriedly, Matilda felt uneasy. She paused on the line and Devin was about to ask again before she responded,
"You mean this house? No."
She tried her best to be calm on the phone but she was shivering slightly, feeling vile for having secretly gone to seek Robin’s help.
"My spy informed me that a blonde woman went out and into the penthouse," Devin said directly, Matilda’s breath hitched.
She searched her mind for a sensible excuse and when none seemed forthcoming, she decided to confess but opening her mouth, words she had not thought about came out.
"Are you sure he did not mistake this house for that of one of your neighbors? Nobody came in or went out."
Devin was quiet for a while. The spy was usually a distance away so what if he mistook his house for the next one?
"You are right but I will just check the cameras."
Matilda felt like she had been caught and there was no way around it so she just had to confess and face the consequences. She opened her mouth but the line had already died and she feared calling Devin back.
She should have thought through this plan better and now, she feared losing everything. If Devin sent her out, it wouldn’t take long before she’d be caged in her father’s mansion again and who would save her this time?
Matilda was greatly disturbed, and her heart was pounding very hard in her chest. A few minutes later, the phone rang again. Her hands shook before reaching the handset.
"The cameras did not capture anything. It might be the neighbors as you said but just be careful while you are there and keep all doors locked. I will increase the security," Devin said calmly.
Matilda released the air she was steadfastly holding in her lungs, happy that she was not caught.
"Thank you, Devin."
When the call ended, she let out all the air in her lungs with a long sigh. Matilda was convinced that Robin was the reason why Devin got nothing from the cameras but why was he helping her? Was he so kind?
Matilda shook her head and thought again, if it wasn’t Robin, then who could have saved her from this mess? She could not wrap her head around it.
Chapter 75: Chapter 75 – Little Mara has been a bad girl.
At Jewel’s group of companies, Robin heard a knock, and the door was opened before he responded. His eyes squinted when Daniel hastened to his desk and made himself comfortable.
"Daniel. You did not tell me that you were coming over."
Robin did not like the intrusion and Daniel was aware but this was too important to ignore, he could not help coming unannounced.
"That is because of the information at hand," Daniel said seriously whiles he passed some documents to Robin.
"What did you find out?" Robin asked while looking at the pile of documents, knowing that Daniel would give him a summary of everything.
"Little Mara has been a bad girl!" Daniel announced, creating suspense in Robin’s mind which he was not ready to wipe at the moment.
"I don’t get it."
"Two years ago, there was news about Matilda Saint’s involvement in drugs," Daniel revealed. Robin also knew that aspect and was getting more and more impatient.
"I heard that news because of her father. General Saint, right?" Robin asked for confirmation.
"Right. He managed to cover the news and got his daughter out of police custody but nobody ever saw her again."
"She showed up earlier in my office, disguised," Robin revealed. Now he was ready for the breakdown of everything that happened in Matilda’s life and Daniel had found out quite a lot in a short time.
Thanks to Robin, he could pay whoever needed to be paid and buy the most expensive software needed for his work.
"Matilda knows quite a lot of things so she fell into the hate list of Mara. Matilda fell in love with a guy and I realized he was a gigolo and also took up other illegal jobs. He was paid by Mara’s nurse to set up Matilda."
"Why would Mara do that to her?" Robin asked, confused. He was getting tired of the little witch and was thinking of ways to deal with her already.
"Because she is a friend of Sabrina and among one of the few people who knows about Mara’s existence."
"So how was it done?"
"The gigolo posed as a responsible businessman and made her fall in love with him. They arranged to meet in the club but then, he came with another woman."
"Before then, he had tipped a waiter to spike Matilda’s drink, and seeing the man who claimed to love her with another woman, she drank more than necessary, an already spiked drink."
"When she fell unconscious, he injected her with cocaine and called the authorities."
Robin frowned at the injustice after Daniel finished narrating his findings so far. It was such a shame for a general’s daughter to be set up with drugs like this.
"He should be arrested."
"Mara paid him heavily and he relocated to California," Daniel explained the reason for the difficulty in getting the gigolo arrested.
"Get in touch with Interpol," Robin instructed as his anger surged. When he heard the news before, he only felt pity for the general, for the fact that his daughter had caused him such shame but after meeting Matilda and knowing that she had been locked up in her father’s mansion because of this, he could not let things be.
Robin would not rest until justice was served and he did not see himself doing it for Matilda but rather Sabrina. Daniel’s mouth went wide with shock. What Robin was asking was very expensive but he could also afford it.
However, what he could not understand was the reason Robin would spend so much to clear the name of a girl he hardly knew. Was he crushing on her too?
"Are you ready to spend so much on her?"
"I’m not doing it for her. I’m doing it for Sabrina," Robin explained casually. He knew that if he had known about Sabrina’s pregnancy that night, he would not have agreed to the divorce. Rather, he could have insisted on finding another place for Zayla but right now, it was too late.
"Alright, so what do you want with this information?" Daniel asked seriously. His job was done and it was up to Robin to decide what to do with it.
"Edit it. Take out the part about Mara’s involvement but the gigolo should be exposed. He should be the one to expose Mara," Robin explained his plan.
If he exposed Mara now that they did not have a vivid knowledge of her location, Sabrina’s life could be endangered.
"I get it and should I send it to the press?" Daniel asked after putting a few things together. He was however awed by Robin’s response,
"No. Send it to Devin."
"Why?" Daniel was even more confused. Robin and Devin were not friends so why would he send it to him when Robin could use it to clear Matilda’s name and vindicate himself in front of Sabrina?
"According to what she said, he is working on clearing her name but hasn’t made headway. My involvement should not be known. No one must know that she came to me," Robin elaborated.
"I will get it done," Daniel affirmed. Since Matilda was innocent in everything, he did not have a problem with Robin’s style of handling these affairs.
"Thank you," Robin said before Daniel left.
**
At JC Minerals
Sabrina was having a meeting with her father concerning the new proposals from Martin. Her father checked the documents after Sabrina had done hers. He spoke with a smile,
"Sabrina, this deal is as good as the first one."
"Alright. I will go ahead and sign them," Sabrina nodded her head in response.
She was about leaving to her office when her father asked her,
"What about the ones from the six companies?"
Sabrina frowned a little before she revealed, "I researched about them and realized they have an affiliation with Jewel Group of Companies."
Her father shook his head, slightly disappointed, whiles he began to educate her,
"Partnership or affiliation, does not mean Robin owns them. Don’t allow emotions to cloud your sense of judgment."
