Ch. 76..80: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 76-80

Chapter 76: Chapter 76 – Matilda’s liberation.

After what her father said, Sabrina began to worry about her emotions. She had to find ways to put them in check and she felt that would only be possible if she stayed away from Robin.

However, with this collaboration, she would have to keep in mind that they were bound to meet more than they ever did.

"Okay, I will sign them too."

When she was about to stand up, she felt a slight headache and even yawned. "Dad, I think I will take an early day off. I feel so tired."

Her father nodded his head. He already noticed it but felt she should be the best doctor for her body. She should know when to rest and when to work.

"A pregnant woman needs rest and have you been taking your vitamins?" He asked seriously, Sabrina felt guilty but neither could she hide it.

"I missed two days."

"Sabrina!" Her father yelled.

He was visibly angry but then again, what was Devin doing? Did he not say that he could take care of Sabrina like he used to do before?

"I’m sorry, Dad," Sabrina lowered her head in shame and spoke. Cobby shook his head before saying softly, though his words were stern.

"Look, the only reason I don’t regret your marriage with Robin is because of the child in your womb. Please take care of him or her. I have to inform Devin to always ensure that you take your vitamins or else, you move into the mansion."

Sabrina knew she would be better taken care of in the mansion because of all the maids but she could not leave Matilda alone. Also, no one should know about her whereabouts until her name was cleared.

There are just too many maids in the mansion for which reason it was not safe for Matilda to be there.

"I won’t miss them again, I promise," Sabrina said solemnly.

"Okay," Cobby agreed.

As soon as Sabrina left his office, she called Devin on the phone to inform him about going home early.

"Devin, I don’t feel so good so I will take a cab home."

"No, I will come and get you. Just give me twenty minutes and I’ll be there," Devin said seriously, he was not taking no for an answer.

"Alright," Sabrina agreed while doing a few things to keep herself busy in the course of waiting for Devin.

Devin was stepping out of his office when he bumped into his secretary.

"Mr. Cage, you have a parcel," His secretary said while handing him a medium-sized box. Devin’s eyes squinted since he was not expecting any parcel at the moment and asked,

"From where?"

"There is no address and the delivery man has long gone," the secretary explained.

Devin hastily tore it open and as soon as he saw Matilda’s name, he closed everything and took it to his car.

While he drove to Sabrina’s office, he kept wondering whether the document in the box was going to clear and complicate Matilda.

However, the greatest question was who sent it and why. Did anyone know that Matilda was with him to specifically send him documents involving her? It was not as if they were family.

After picking up Sabrina from the office, he asked her seriously, "What is wrong with you?"

Sabrina yawned and said, "Devin, I just feel tired and I need rest."

"Then I guess I will leave the package for tomorrow since I don’t know if it’s good or bad news. It involves Matilda" Devin shrugged and revealed while driving.

"What package are you talking about?" Sabrina felt a renewed energy at the mention of Matilda and was eager to know more.

"Let’s go home first. I’m driving and would not be able to contain your excitement," Devin chuckled upon seeing how her mood suddenly changed.

Reaching home, Matilda was in the middle of preparing lunch.

"Why did you not mention that you were coming? I would have made extra lunch," she asked worriedly.

"We can as well look at this first," Devin brought out the box and began to open it while he spoke. Matilda turned off the gas and joined them.

"There is a pen drive," Sabrina noticed.

"Let’s see what it has," Devin said while inserting the pen drive into his laptop. A video from two years ago began to play and Matilda’s eyes rolled with tears.

"So that is what happened," she said with a bitter smile. Not only did Stanley break heart but also set up, drugged, and injected her with cocaine before calling the authorities on her. How evil? "How Could he do this to me?"

Matilda’s sobs broke Devin’s heart and he ended up pulling her into his arms comfortingly.

"We shall find out after getting him arrested but this has to go viral," Devin said with a calm but furious tone.

"Thank you, Devin, thank you very much," Matilda cried and Devin was not one to take credit for a job he did not do. His hackers tried but could not get anything.

Whoever did this, must be a top hacker and Devin wished to meet him or her someday.

"Honestly, I don’t know where it came from."

"What?" Not only Matilda but Sabrina was equally shocked and they both spoke in unison.

Devin gulped while he revealed, looking at Sabrina while he loosened his hold on Matilda.

"It was delivered to my office when I was coming to get you."

"So, who sent it?" Sabrina asked, eager to thank the person for this wonderful information.

"I don’t know but proof is proof," Devin shrugged.

"Then how can we trust the source?" Sabrina was still disturbed and asked.

"I will find out who but if the person was an enemy, I doubt he or she would help us."

"You are right about that," Sabrina said.

Hearing their conversation, Matilda felt once again that Robin was the one and wanted to thank him but that would be too risky. She smiled and sat back in her chair, certain that this was a sign Robin was watching Sabrina and she needn’t be afraid.

"I see you are happy," Sabrina observed Matilda and spoke.

"You have no idea, Sabrina," Matilda responded dazedly with a smile.

"Once the video goes viral, your father would find the idiot wherever he is," Sabrina said whiles Devin was busy uploading the video on social media pages for the offender to be found.

"And I can have my life back. I wouldn’t have gotten this far without you." Matilda went to hug Sabrina and they sat that way.

Chapter 77: Chapter 77 – Mara’s strange concern

The next day, news about the scandal from two years ago concerning the General’s daughter rescued in the club with a drug overdose sprang up again with a video.

It was on all social media channels as well as newspapers and even the news. This time, people were not cursing Matilda but rather, the man in the video and sympathizing with Matilda.

The news spread very fast and netizens were requesting the arrest of the man who destroyed the life of Matilda Saint two years ago.

When Martin saw the news, he was surprised since he had tried to get anything to prove Matilda’s innocence but was told that the video had been wiped.

He did not want to tell Matilda because of how disappointed Sabrina would be and said he was still working on it.

Whoever retrieved this video could be two things. Either he was a threat or someone powerful who was up to something.

He quickly called Devin, since he was not aware of it but the fact that it made Devin happy.

"Have you heard the news about Matilda?"

"Yes, I’m behind it," Devin confessed. He had been so busy and did not have time to inform Martin. Martin was surprised and slightly disappointed to not have been told since they were working on it together.

"How did you know? I thought your hacker and mine could not get anything?" Martin asked, hiding his consternation.

"Indeed, but it was delivered to my doorstep," Devin said honestly and Martin was somehow confused.

"Your doorstep? By who?"

"I have no idea but since it involved authentic information, I had to use it," Devin revealed.

Martin was uneasy about whoever this mysterious helper was since the person seemed to be more powerful than either of them to be able to get something they both could not get.

"You don’t care about the source?"

"I’m still trying but at the moment, I am more concerned about getting the fool arrested for what he did to Matilda," Devin said seriously.

He could not help the burning rage inside him when he saw the video yesterday and how Matilda broke down. Something he never felt for a long time awoke inside of him.

"You have taken it personally. Are you liking her? You know what I mean," Martin asked.

Knowing his best friend and the way he spoke, Martin discerned that there was more but neither did Devin deny it.

"It’s difficult to not like her."

"Devin, you know what I mean," Martin insisted, which meant that he wanted the plain truth and details of the whole matter.

"Yes, I like her but I have always tried to not date someone who is a friend or a family member’s friend. You know what happens when problems arise. You end up hurting a lot of people," Devin revealed.

Before the drug incident, he had always had a thing for Matilda but for the fact that she was Sabrina’s best friend, Devin avoided it.

Martin seemed to like her for Devin as well and encouraged him,

"Matilda does not seem like trouble."

"I know and I’m still thinking about it. I also don’t want it to be like she owes me for clearing her name kind of thing," Devin said thoughtfully.

He has always been responsible, putting reasoning above feelings. He kept it for years and did not think it would be difficult to keep covering what he felt for Matilda.

"I wish you all the best," Martin stated before the call ended.

As soon as Martin hung up and returned to work, his phone began to ring and it was Mara. Worriedly, he answered it.

"Mara, are you alright?"

"Martin, you can’t let them find the man in the video. You just can’t," Mara was perspiring heavily while she was speaking at the end of the line but Martin could not see it. He disagreed with his sister,

"He deserves to be punished for what he did not to an innocent girl."

Mara was shivering from fear. This was something she did secretly and Martin was not aware of it. There was no way of confessing it without Martin knowing about her long-kept secret.

Mara took deep breaths and thought carefully before explaining,

"I think the same thing but I want us to rather do the punishment."

"I don’t understand you, Mara. You don’t even know Matilda so why are you concerned? Are you aware that she is Sabrina’s best friend?" Martin asked seriously.

Mara was sniffling at the end of the line and Martin’s worry kept increasing as she went on to explain,

"It’s just pitiful. I cried while watching the video."

Martin sighed with relief, feeling that she was just taking pity on Matilda, which somehow felt strange since Mara hated anyone close to Sabrina.

She only had not dared to touch Lizzy also because of Devin.

"Don’t worry. Devin is already trying to get the guy involved and I believe Matilda’s dad would also be doing his part."

Mara was even more disturbed at the revelation. She could not allow that to happen. "Why don’t you do it for Sabrina? It would help her to make up her mind faster," Mara pitched to Martin’s interest, so he would not be suspicious of her.

Martin nodded his head at the thought. The more he did things that pleased Sabrina, the happier she would be with him.

Right now, she was still upset because of what Zayla did so this might indeed help matters and make her happy again.

"You have a point. She loves her best friend so much. I will see what I can do."

"Don’t be afraid to use as much money as needed. I don’t need to approve this one," Mara said again, Martin felt weird.

When Mara spoke like that, then it meant she was giving Martin no room to fail the task, which made him feel like there was more to it.

"I’m I supposed to think that you are being generous?" Martin asked suspiciously.

"What makes you think that I care about what you think?" Mara asked in return, Martin gave up.

"Alright, I will let you know the outcome."

Chapter 78: Chapter 78 – Late on her first meeting.

At Robin’s office, he received a call from Daniel when he was in a very important meeting. Whereas since Daniel never called unless it was very important, Robin answered it and Daniel said,

"Robin, the FBI got Stanley."

"Who is Stanley?" Robin frowned and asked with irritation, while he excused himself from his executives for a while to his inner room.

Daniel was dismayed at how Robin forgot after tasking him to do a job.

"The guy Mara paid to mess up Matilda’s life," Daniel responded in annoyance.

Robin smiled after the understanding sank in. "Good. They should bring him over. I will send you a location to take him to," he instructed.

"Then what will you do?" Daniel asked curiously, not able to guess what Robin had planned again and what he intended to do.

"Nothing. I will send the location of the culprit to Devin and General Saint. Whoever gets there first, wins."

Robin sounded like he was having fun in a game of chess.

He loved to create panic and suspicions and right now, he was loving himself for all that he was doing.

"Robin, I don’t know where you are headed with all this," Daniel complained. Robin has always been a puzzle to Daniel but this was even worse.

"Well, I so wish the general gets there first but I will give both parties an equal chance. I’m afraid Martin would try to protect his sister and sabotage things if Devin gets Stanley first.

"Then don’t inform Devin," Daniel suggested but Robin wanted to hit two birds with one stone.

"As I said, I’m doing this for Sabrina. I want Devin to carry the news about Stanley being found to Sabrina and her best friend. A pregnant woman should be happy at all times, don’t you think?" Robin smiled and asked.

"I will wait and see what happens," Daniel said before he hangs up. He was just happy with the fact that Robin wanted Sabrina to be happy.

While Robin got back to work, joining his executives at the meeting and muting his phone, Aria walked in with an emergency.

"Mr. Jewel, six of our subsidiary companies have signed a partnership with JC Minerals and there has been a request for an emergency meeting between all the companies at the Crystal hotel. Should I add it to the schedule of your assistant?"

Aria knew that his boss never liked to attend those meetings. He usually left it for his assistant but this time around, Robin asked a question which made her assume that he was interested.

"When is the meeting?"

"In an hour," Aria reported while jotting down a few things on her iPad.

"The crystal hotel is closer to me so I will attend it myself," Robin said directly. Aria nodded professionally and responded,

"I will send the confirmation to them."

"Please do," Robin agreed.

Robin rounded up the meeting and quickly made his way to the Crystal hotel, eager to meet with a certain someone.

Having arrived thirty minutes earlier, he was surprised to see all his six CEOs already seated around the conference table in the conference room.

Only two seats were remaining so Robin sat on one and left the vacant one which was at the head of the table for a certain someone.

"She is late for her first meeting," one of the CEOs said in annoyance.

"Indeed, another one agreed."

Robin checked the time on his wristwatch and remained quiet.

"She is not taking us seriously," another CEO said. Since their boss was there, they wanted to show him their punctuality.

Again, Robin did not utter a word and sipped water.

A minute to the time, Sabrina walked in hastily, looking stunning in her black suit but also tired. She froze when she saw that there was only one chair remaining, which was at the head of the table.

The person on her right was also Robin. She frowned bitterly, before hastening to her seat. She was not sure that Robin would be here and since he was, he should have sat at the head of the table but did not.

"You set the meeting at 11 am and you are late," one of the CEOs alleged as soon as Sabrina sat. In a world of men where she was the only woman, she felt intimidated since these were her partners and not her staff members.

She had to operate discreetly. Sabrina pursed her lips, about to apologize when Robin lifted his wristwatch to eye level and said,

"She’s not late. She’s still thirty seconds early. You decided to come early because you are not as busy as her."

The six men were shocked that their President was defending his ex-wife.

Sabrina found the statement funny since she knew that all those men were equally busy. She saw how her accusers lowered their heads and was grateful for Robin’s help but she did not thank him or anything.

Not after how he stopped her from dealing with Zayla.

She directly went on to address the menfolk at the meeting, all dressed in black suits. If she had known they would dress in black, she was sure to have dressed in something different.

"Thank you all for making it on time. This is our first meeting and I am happy you could all make it. I intend for us to have it periodically and my suggestion, is once a month," Sabrina said confidently but the men around the conference table frowned and one of them asked,

"Miss James, can you explain your reason for requesting a once-a-month meeting and not a bi-weekly one?"

Sabrina’s main reason was because of Robin since she knew that she had to work harder to gain their trust after agreeing to the partnership.

She was just not ready to be seeing Robin every two weeks. However, that would be a lame excuse to give so she quickly crafted a different one,

"By then, I intend to give a detailed report on what your resources are being used for, and how you are going to benefit from it all."

There was a look of discontentment on the faces of the six men present and she knew this was not going to be easy. Only Robin remained unreadable. Sabrina maintained a calm frontage but internally, she was so exhausted.

Chapter 79: Chapter 79 – Put me down

The pregnancy hormones of the first trimester were catching up on her very fast and she was finding it hard to adjust to them when she had such a busy schedule.

A yawn was nudging in and using a neatly folded handkerchief, she covered her mouth before allowing the yawn out of her lips.

Robin noticed it and worry flung him whereas he remained indifferent.

"So, Miss James, if our investment was wrongfully distributed, do you expect us to wait until the end of every month to know about it? Please don’t forget that this is a new collaboration."

Sabrina was embarrassed to have been called out like that and remembered her father’s advice to keep her emotions out of the way of business. If she allowed it to affect her, then her judgment would be wrong and clouded.

"So, what do you suggest, Mr. Wingman?" Sabrina asked him, just so she wouldn’t be the one suggesting it. Since these companies had invested a lot, they could decide on the frequency at which they wanted this meeting to be held.

"I suggest bi-weekly meetings for the first three months. If things are looking good, then we can change it to once a month and subsequently, once in three or six months," Mr. Wingman, one of the CEOs suggested.

He was an elderly man who already knew that even though the plan for partnership was their boss’s idea, he would still blame him if things went wrong, for which reason he had to be vigilant.

After suspecting that Sabrina was carrying his child and warning Martin, Robin thought of a way to get involved in JC Minerals company affairs because of Mara.

Knowing that Sabrina would reject a partnership with Jewel Group, he tasked six of his most competent CEOs to send the proposals, hoping that at least one of them would get the partnership since they were still under him.

Robin did not expect that Sabrina would accept all six companies. To him, it was a great advantage because he now had higher shares than the Danes. Also, he had the opportunity to walk into Sabrina’s office at any time he wanted.

Whether she liked it or not, he would be there to protect her.

"Is there any other person who agrees with his suggestion?" Sabrina asked, her heart dropping when she saw six right arms lifted in the air, except Robin.

It did not seem like he came to contribute anything. He was more like an observer.

Sabrina gulped. Before she responded, she was met with a wave of dizziness and when she opened her eyes, everything was blurry.

"Are you alright?" Robin whispered in her ears when he realized her attention had drifted. It was funny how Zayla showed no symptoms but that was also normal.

Sabrina realized that he might get suspicious if she told him that she felt dizzy so she straightened up and nodded her head but was still struggling with the darkness coming her way.

"Since you all agree, then we shall have our next meeting in two weeks. I will have my secretary send you reminders. If there is nothing more, then we could end our first meeting here."

The six CEOs were not happy with the way she was hastening to end the meeting between them. One of them asked,

"Miss James, do you have more important things to do aside from this meeting? You seem to be in a hurry."

Sabrina could barely hear what he said and was sweating. Before she asked what the man was saying, Robin retorted,

"If you don’t have anything to say concerning the collaboration, then the meeting is over. She is not responsible to share what she does after she meets with you. I guess you all have work to do."

The iciness in his tone chilled the six men and one by one, they nodded their heads respectfully before leaving the conference room.

As soon as the last person left as Sabrina saw from her blurry vision, her head dropped on the table, not minding that Robin was there.

"Sabrina, you are tired. You should take some days off," Robin suggested but Sabrina was already sleeping and Robin was afraid that she was unconscious.

"I will take you to the hospital," he said in her ears, and was amazed by the way she instantly jolted awake as if she had not felt dizzy before. Robin frowned deeply. ’You must want to keep our child from me but that is not possible, Sabrina.’

"I’m fine, Robin. I will call Martin to come and take me back to the office," she said and tried to stand up when another wave of dizziness flooded in, forcing her to sit back in her chair. Hearing her mention Martin, Robin was incredulously pained.

"If you won’t go to the hospital, then you can relax for a while in my office until you feel better. Have you eaten yet?" Robin asked.

Sabrina wanted to say yes or simply tell him it was none of his business but she remembered the baby in her womb and admitted,

"No"

Robin was greatly worried. A pregnant woman had not eaten since morning and it was already lunchtime. He feared that the pregnancy would turn out unhealthy if she ended up like this. Without a word, he scooped her into his arms.

His action caused Sabrina to jolt back to reality once again. Robin never carried her in their arms before. Not through their three years of marriage.

"Put me down," she tried to speak sternly but her voice came out weak.

Robin did not oblige and carried her to his car. As soon as he placed her on the passenger seat and buckled her up, she fell asleep. As he looked at how she slept like a baby, he found her adorable.

’What I’m I even thinking,’ Robin reprimanded himself in his head.

He ordered for food to be delivered to his office. At first, he wanted to take her to the hospital and have the opportunity to have proof but then, how would he gain her trust?

It was better to pretend that he did not know.

What Robin did not see was the flash of a camera light from a distance, while he drove his ex-wife to his office.

Chapter 80: Chapter 80 – Don’t let anyone in here and I repeat, no one

As soon as Aria saw her boss walking in with a woman in his arms, she quickly went to open the door to his office.

She realized that this woman was different from his whores. She was dressed decently, even in a suit. Aria did not also miss the worry lines on her boss’s forehead.

When Robin got closer, she saw the woman’s face clearer, realizing it was his ex-wife. Aria was shocked but had no idea what had happened for him to bring her here.

She could not also conclude that her boss was fucking his ex-wife because the woman looked too decent for that.

Robin could have taken Sabrina to a hotel but figured that would send out negative misprints about his ex-wife, especially with the news about her fake relationship everywhere on the internet.

He could have also sent her to her office but since he has never been there before, he couldn’t.

He could not also send her to his penthouse because of Zayla so this was the best place. Dropping her gently on the three-seater sofa, he said to Aria who was still lingering around,

"I ordered food. Bring it over as soon as the delivery arrives and also, don’t let anyone in here and I repeat, no one," Robin said seriously.

Aria nodded her head before closing the door. Whilst Robin began to work on his laptop, his phone rang and he answered since it was Zayla.

He realized that he had forgotten to check up on her after arriving at the office and felt that she was upset.

"Zayla, is everything alright, I forgot to inform you that I was at the office," he said softly. Zayla was saddened because she had received some pictures and needed clarification.

"Robin, are you sure you are at the office?" She asked, suspecting that he was in a hotel with his ex-wife.

Zayla was very bitter upon seeing that Robin had carried Sabrina in his arms from the hotel to his car. Now she was wondering if they were in another hotel.

"Zayla, is there a problem? I have a lot of work to do," Robin sounded irritable.

Zayla wanted to ask him directly but there was a call waiting and when she pulled the phone from her ear to check, it was her father so she said,

"It’s alright, I will call you later."

Aria walked in a few minutes after Robin got back to work but did not knock in order not to wake her boss’s sleeping ex-wife.

She dropped the food on a center table where Robin usually had his lunch. As he got back to work, he heard Sabrina’s phone ringing from her handbag.

He feared the sound would wake her but he could not also invade her privacy by reaching into her handbag to silence it. Things were different now and he was trying his best to not anger her.

As expected, Sabrina woke up and reached for her phone.

"Brina, where are you? You said the meeting won’t last for more than an hour but it’s already three hours," Devin said worriedly from the end of the line.

Sabrina was having a headache and did not know where she was. "Devin, I have a headache."

"I’m coming to get you." Devin was about to hang up when Sabrina said,

"But I don’t know where I am."

"You are in my office," Robin said, his voice startling her and she froze and looked at him. Instantly, she lifted herself to a sitting position upon realizing that she was in his office.

"What I’m I doing here?"

"You passed out after the meeting," Robin said so softly, it made her still from shock. She could not understand his reason for being nice to her.

Sabrina was tongue-tied since she did not want him to know that she was speaking with Devin whom she had claimed to be her ex.

She spoke into the phone, "Don’t worry, I will take a cab home."

"No, I’m already on my way," Devin refused. Sabrina had no choice but to reveal,

"I’m in Robin’s office."

"Then I will ask Martin to come and get you," Devin said, halting at the entrance of the elevator. He already knew that she had a meeting where Robin would be present but thought it safe to not ask how she ended up in his office, especially when she was having a headache.

"Okay," Sabrina agreed. When she hung up, Robin said seriously,

"You should eat and don’t you think it’s irresponsible to not have breakfast when you have so much workload? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."

Sabrina knew he was right, especially when she had a baby in her womb. She had promised her father to be more responsible but as soon as she got to the office with the pile of work since she had taken half a day off yesterday, she pushed her packaged breakfast aside.

"Thanks for not leaving me at the conference room but you should have sent me to my office," she said subtly. Robin scoffed and responded,

"I don’t know anyone there. Will I leave you on the floor of the car park and drive away?"

Sabrina took an interest in the food rather than responding to his sarcasm. Robin was happy that she was eating and not too upset to refuse his food.

Sabrina noticed the other untouched food and said between bites of the salad he bought for her,

"The food is two which means you have not eaten too, so, who is the pot here?"

Robin could not say directly that it was because of her pregnancy that he was concerned but walked around to get the food and began to eat on his desk.

"Can I have water please?" Sabrina expected him to direct her to his fridge but Robin stood up and got the water for her and one for himself.

When Sabrina was done, she threw the leftovers into the bin and sat down.

"So how are you coping with the pressure?" Robin asked, trying to strike up a normal conversation.
