Ch. 236..240: The Rogue is a Female Alpha chapter 236-240

Back Where 236

When the last elder walked out, I had to pause, turning toward the window so I wouldn’t have to meet his eyes, as if I had done something unimaginably awful.

“You’re getting married to a cursed man?”

“He is thousands of times better than you, Nyroth. Let’s face it,” I murmured, turning to him. He stood at the entrance, a frown of awe and disbelief on his face.

Then he took a step forward, still surprised, confused, but now curious.

“Tell me, Zeph… is it the wealth you’re after? I mean, we all know Apex is blessed. Is that what you wanted?”

“You forget I am an Ashmere. Just because you heard our pack supplies have run out doesn’t mean we’re poor. There are many

Lycannar’s wealth.”

“The presents he gave you?”

I had to smile, unconsciously reaching for my necklace amulet to fidget with it.

“I love his gifts. I appreciate them, but that’s not it. Really.” Then I turned fully to him. “Why should I tell you anything, Nyroth? You and I ended long ago. You love another woman, and I love another man. We are simply not made for one another. Accept it, and accept peace.”

It was as if I had told him to go and die. He stood in silence for a long moment, then took another step forward to stand before me.

“Zeph… I am your first love. Five years ago, you looked at no man but me. You wanted me so much. Will you tell me now that you have grown out of love? That there is nothing at all of me that you still desire? Nothing at all?”

I swallowed hard.

“First love is supposed to mean something. Just because we parted badly doesn’t mean you should forget what we went through. The good times, where…”

“Where what?” I cut him off softly. He paused, searching my eyes. I shook my head slowly, trying to remember. “Where what, Nyroth? Good times like when your mother was abusive? Or when your younger sister never ceased to mock me?”

He didn’t speak. His face faltered, and he sighed regretfully.

I exhaled now, letting emotions tug at my heart. I realized that I was deeply sad, and I had masked it with happy thoughts of Lycannar and me getting married. But now Nyroth had dug into the depths of that sorrow, and it all surged back.

It wasn’t just hate. We simply hadn’t spoken plainly and fully after our rejection. He stood there with me, alone in the vast Ash Pack meeting hall. I bit my lower lip, shaking my head.

“There are no good times with you, Nyroth. All I did was elevate your pack, and in return, you gave me absence, neglect, and silence when everyone called me a rogue. As if that weren’t enough, immediately after Kaela returned from her foolish mission of peace, you started cheating on me with her.”

“Zeph…”

“I hate that I have to compare you to Lycannar, but it’s out there in the open. The truth. You treated me like trash, a worthless rogue. Lycannar worshiped me. He made me feel seen, loved. He supported me and…”

“He supported you to go on a suicide mission. Is that it?” he suddenly asked, and I paused. “I heard he was the one who handed you the torch to set Blackwater ablaze. He went into that place to slaughter hundreds in less than an hour. And yet you never questioned his bloodthirst. What if you had died there? What if his egging you on led to your death? If Warrior June hadn’t stood his ground to not stop him, if he had listened to Yadev, do you even realize how many men Apex would have killed? Is that the man you want to bear your pups, Zeph? A man who lives only in a tower? Perhaps your aunt was right after all.”

“About what?” My voice was quiet but filled with awe. He looked up at me, and I repeated, “About what, Nyroth? You sound like you’ve met my aunt somewhere other than this pack.”

He took a step back, lowering his gaze as if I had caught him. Slowly, it began to dawn.

“You were there when Warrior June was called to stop Lycannar and me from rescuing Varyn?“” I asked. Silence fell, and I drifted down memory lane.

I remembered the night I mounted my horse to White Pack. Nyroth had come to ask me to plead with the Council members instead of going to war.

That meant… he knew what awaited me in that pack. Death. Death if Lycannar hadn’t been the

executioner.

Staring at him again, I saw he had failed me once more. Nyroth… why?

“Each time we tried to find an end to our loopholes, you tied another tight knot yourself,” I

said, shattered. I moved to bypass him, but he caught my wrist and confessed.

“I didn’t do anything. I went there to rage at Kaela to let you be, and I saw your aunt there. She was going to take your pack with Kaela’s help. I did nothing wrong, Zeph.”

“Let me go!” I snapped, jerking my hand free. “You know I was going to get killed. You know their plans, and yet you stood by. Perhaps… you expected me to perish in Blackwater with Lycannar? Is that your plan?”

Not waiting for his response, I turned away, but he pulled me back again, losing his senses.

He reached for my wrist, but I intercepted, swiftly tugging for his neck, and in a blur, pinned him against the wall, accidentally tugging my amulet necklace free.

I froze as the necklace rolled from my neck and hit the floor. Lycannar must have felt it.

I turned to Nyroth, who seemed to have done it on purpose, and shoved him away angrily. I reached for my necklace, but he extended it to me, swallowing.

“If this is how you want it to be, Zeph, then so be it,” he said.

I didn’t dwell on his words. I grabbed the necklace and quickly put it back on, reconnecting with Lycannar. Darkness flooded me for a heart–stopping moment, and I staggered.

Nyroth reached for me, but I refused his help. I walked to the table, leaning on it, swallowing hard against the powerful force that had descended. Gradually, it faded, and I sighed.

I straightened and headed out, tossing a final glance over my shoulder.

“Get out of my pack, Nyroth. We are done.”

“Not yet, Zeph,” he said, but I didn’t bother to respond.

I stared at it once again, stunned. She had… removed the amulet necklace that bound us. I could feel it from the anklets that chained me, from my very soul.

Emptiness crawled back in, devouring me whole, and I lost every trace of her in the empire. No scent. No thread. Nothing. She was gone.

I sat still, hollow, unable to move. Did it mean… her brother had spoken to her? Convinced her? My thoughts spun, stunned and disoriented, so much that even when my brother appeared at the doorway, I barely noticed.

Lost, until Chantel was sent in, standing before me, trying to draw me back. I dragged myself to reality, lifting my gaze slowly at my chantel, then at my brother, who frowned with concern.

“You alright?” he asked.

I didn’t answer. Instead, I reached again, inside, searching for the bond, for Zephyrine, only to find nothing but futility. My gaze dropped to the anklets, once a lifeline, now nothing more than shackles.

“Apex?” my brother called again, softer this time. “Come out to the dining hall. Dinner is ready.”

I swallowed and nodded.

“I’ll be there in a minute.”

He lingered, staring, then left. Chantel remained, eyes fixed on me.

“I’m fine. You can go,” I muttered.

He didn’t move. I looked up, sharp.

“What?”

“Your runes,” he said quietly. “They’re glowing.”

A near–snarl escaped me.

“It’s because I’m in a state of quandary”

I pushed up from my seat and walked toward the hall. Four days had passed since she left without a word, leaving a Luna with us as if that would make up for her absence. Four days of silence. Would she return whole? Would she still love me?

Descending the stairs, I saw my family already gathered. I had just stepped forward when Luna Tahlia’s bright voice carried across the room.

“I’ve received notice to return to my pack,” she announced, holding a sealed scroll.

At once, my sisters rose eagerly.

“Truly?” Serena asked, taking the scroll. Her eyes scanned it, then lit up. “Your son will be crowned Alpha?”

“Not yet. We will go to trial and after that we will know the verdict which undoubtedly will be to let justice prevail.”

“By the gods…” Serena grinned wide. “Young Black will make history as the youngest Alpha ever.”

The Luna nodded, joy spilling from her, while Mearez smiled proudly beside her. I slid into my seat, silent, still weighed down by the echo of loss.

Why had Zephyrine removed the amulet?

“Your Majesty,” my uncle’s voice cut through. “Have you chosen a date for the wedding ceremony?”

I turned to him, nearly sighing. He was taunting me. He knew I couldn’t set a date without Mother, without the true queen, without the high priestess, without my father’s will from the demon throne.

“Not yet,” I muttered, swallowing bile. The fear pressed heavy in my chest. What if… she didn’t want me anymore? What if I had already lost her?

But then the thunder of hooves. My horse.

My head snapped up. The sound grew closer until she dismounted, footsteps echoing into the

hall.

Zephyrine.

My pulse froze. She had come. She had journeyed back to me. To do what? To love me, or hate

me?

“Alpha Zephyrine,” Luna Tahlia gasped, rushing forward to embrace her. My sisters crowded around, showing her the scroll.

Zephyrine read it, then lifted her face to Luna Tahlia with a radiant smile. No words were needed. Emotions soared. They hugged, tight, breathless.

“You will return with your head high to your pack,” Zephyrine murmured. “You will win the trial.”

“Yes,” the Luna replied, eyes glistening.

They looked at one another, smiling through joy. Then her gaze shifted. Fell on me. My chest seized. My breath stuttered. She stepped forward, and I sat motionless, but inside I was a

storm.

Something was different. Around her neck was a necklace like the one I had given her, yet not the same. I knew it. I could swear my life on it. Or… was I mistaken?

Before I could think further, she came closer, leaned in, and pressed a kiss to my lips. My heart stilled, then swelled violently. She didn’t know the truth yet. I saw it now.

“Hi,” she whispered. Just that. And the sound of her voice tore everything else away. Family, hall, time.

Only us remain.

“I missed you,” I breathed, confession raw.

She smiled, kissed me again, then placed a sealed, gleaming case in my hands.

“My first claim of you, Lycannar. Open it.” Updates are released by

Confusion prickled, but I obeyed. Inside lay a ring white jade, carved with the Ashmere crest, the fierce wolf etched with reverence.

I looked

up, stunned.

“I’m claiming you as my man too,” she said softly. “Everyone should know you’re taken, until

we make it official.”

A smile tugged my lips. Strange, foreign, but real. This was the price, the beauty, the chaos of loving a fiery warrior Alpha.

“Should I put it on you?” she asked, tilting her head. “I guessed your size, but I don’t know if I’m right.”

I nodded, wordless.

:

With eager fingers, she took my hand, slid off the ring I wore, and replaced it, placing her own on my fourth finger, sealing her claim before my entire bloodline.

The moment it settled, something erupted inside me. My chest clenched. A groan broke free as I bent forward, gripping the table.

“Lycannar?” Her voice, urgent, her hand on my shoulder. Peace surged at once. The storm inside me stilled under her touch.

I lifted my gaze, steadying. She was there concerned, radiant, mine. And the bond, once severed, now roared back, tighter, fiercer, choking.

In the end, I told myself I had no choice, and I did it.

I arrived under the night sky at my pack, stepped down from the carriage, and walked into the living room where my mother was waiting for me on her toes.

She froze the instant she saw me. I swallowed, standing still, watching her face break into a bright smile.

“I did it.”

At those words, she sighed shakily and moved toward the chair to sit. For a moment her fingers trembled, but she steadied herself with a firm nod.

“You did well, son,” she said. “I am proud of you. Now we wait and see how the amulet works out.”

I nodded, and then she turned, as if remembering something.

“What about the real amulet necklace you altered it with?” she asked, and I pulled it out.

I had seen Zeph’s face when she spoke of the gift Apex had given her. She had held this very necklace with reverence. But now, I had altered it with mine.

“How did Lady Sylvara know the exact necklace Zeph wore, Mother? It’s identical, down to the last detail.” I asked, truly curious, and she only shrugged.

“You think they sit idle at the wolf fortress? No. They are there for reasons like this. To prevent Ill fate from taking its course. Apex with Zeph is wrong. It is evil. Listen well, son.” She sighed again. “When she begins to love you, I want no delays. Mate with her. Marry her. Bear pups with her at once. Do you understand?”

Hearing this made me swallow hard. The thought of her here with me, mine sent a thrill coursing through me. But it did not last. The sound of the gates opening cut through my thoughts.

I traded a sharp glance with my mother before I moved to the window. My breath caught as I saw it. A carriage bearing the crest of the Blackbridge Pack.

Slowly, elegantly, almost shamelessly, Kaela stepped down from the carriage. Her presence here shocked me. The last time she came, it was to discard me and implicate me in an incident

Now she stood still, radiating arrogance, her presence dragging silence over the entire pack.

The rumors were already out there. We were all only waiting for Varyn Ashmere to appear at the wolf fortress and deliver his verdict. One that would seal Kaela’s fate and ruin her name, and Yadevs, forever.

I stepped back as the door opened. My younger sister Olivia entered, fresh from another failed training session. After countless attempts to become a healer, she had failed miserably, and I was already losing hope.

She froze, staring at me for a heartbeat, then turned toward the door just as Kaela walked in.

But Kai rushed forward to block her way.

“You can’t just barge into Hue Pack without an invite,” he snapped, anger flaring. “Not now, not with all the scandal hanging over your head.”

Kaela swallowed, but as shameless as ever, she walked past him and stopped in front of me, lips curling into a low smirk.

“Nyroth. We need to talk.”

“My son will not speak to a whore. A liar. A merchant of death who sold out our best warrior to slavery!” my mother spat, wasting no time. She scoffed at Kaela’s face and hissed: “Get out!”

“I apologize, Mother, but I don’t think I can leave just yet.” Kaela’s voice was silky, her gaze locked on me. She smiled. “My love. I should inform you that I am… back.”

Silence fell. Tension rose. And suddenly, I burst into laughter. Holy gods, what did she just say?

When Hue Pack faced its critics and stood on the verge of collapse, Kaela had never once looked back at me. Instead, she wrapped herself in the arms of a new Alpha who clearly had abandoned her now that her filthy secrets were dragged into the open.

“I forgot to tell you, dear Kaela,” I said, smiling coldly. “Zeph is coming back to me. There is no place for you here in this pack, or in my heart.”

Back Where 239

I’m happy. Excited for Young Black and Luna Tahlia for almost regaining what is theirs. I’m glad to see she has gotten along with the Blood family, and I am happy to see Lycannar once again.

Yet, in a hidden corner of my heart, something feels strange. I cannot place it, but there is a weight, a whisper, that something is amiss.

I have showed Dessyn my ring and she had been happy for me as always. After telling her my farewell, and that I’d be back in nt Ike I have ride out alone.

“Won’t you eat your meal?” The question came from Princess Mearez, and I snapped back to reality to realize I am still here, seated in the dining hall with Lycannar’s family.

I sighed shakily and nodded in obedience. But just as I was about to comply, a gentle tug stirred in my heart. I bowed my head and murmured an excuse.

“I’ll wash my hands and return.”

Without waiting for another word, I stepped back, ascending toward the stairs and the tower. I arrived in the hall, breathing shakily, swallowing hard.

Unsteady. Drained. Why? Why does this dull pain clutch my heart, making it hard to breathe?

“You okay?”

The voice jolted me. I snapped my gaze up, stunned. Chantel. I blinked. Could it be? Did he just speak to me?

“You okay?” he also asked, his voice edged with concern. I smiled faintly.

“Of course. I only wanted to wash my hands and…”

“She’s not well.” Chantel cut me off, shattering my cover. My head snapped toward him in disbelief. “She came breathing less. Pale.”His words left me bare before my man. He opened his door and slipped away, leaving me stunned, regret burning.

Be careful what you wish for. I had longed to hear Chantel to speak, but now I regretted it.

I bit my lower lip and slowly turned back to Lycannar. He was still staring, waiting. My lips trembled.

“I am fine, Lycannar. You have nothing to…”

“Did I ask for an explanation?” His voice cracked like a whip, harsh enough to make me swallow.

Without another word, he left me standing there, walking toward the living room, then across to his bedchamber. I followed, unable to bear his rejection now.

“You… you’re not eating dinner?” I asked casually, as though nothing had happened in the hall. He looked at me blank at first. Then his gaze softened. He crossed to a chair and sat.

“How’s your brother?” he asked gently, and I exhaled.

“Varyn is getting better,” I murmured. Then, hesitating, I added, “Lycan… you know my aunt works with the Yadevs and the Council members?”

He stayed silent, simply watching, as though he knew more was coming.

“I… I killed a maid, Lycan. She was spying for my aunt. I slit her throat. Since then, I feel unsteady. Like… I did wrong.”

“You did wrong,” Lycannar said immediately, and I stared at him. “For feeling guilty.”

He leaned back, shrugging, his voice rough but firm.

“You eliminated a spy and feel guilt? Do you think they would feel guilty if they succeeded, if they killed you instead?”

I bit my lip, silent. His hand extended toward me. I placed mine into his palm, and he pulled me closer, drawing me onto his lap. Gently, he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, his eyes warm as they searched mine.

“If politics exhaust you… perhaps we should relocate to a quiet place, wife.” His voice lowered, hoarse, intimate. “Just you, me, and our pups because we will find a way, and we will have them. Me as only your husband. You as only my wife. No burdens. No crowns. Only us.” The rightful source is fındnovel.net

His words cracked something open in me. A part that had yearned for them. I lowered mygaze, leaned on him, buried my face against his chest, breathing in his scent of flowers.

“Lycan?” I whispered desperately. “I am in pain.”

His hands grew more tender around me. He pulled back slightly, searching my face. My tears burned. He looked at me, concern flooding his features.

“My gods… you’re scaring me, Zephyrine,” he murmured in awe.

I sniffled, leaning closer for comfort, but all I found was ache. Ache deep and suffocating, until sobs broke free, trembling through me.

“Lycan…” My voice broke.

He lifted me easily, carried me down to the bed, and laid me there, eyes locked to mine in horror.

“I’ll call Mearez,” he said quickly, moving to rise. But I caught his wrist, pulling him gently back down beside me.

“Stay with me. Please.”

It sounded like a last plea. My wolf howled quietly as Lycannar lay down, carefully pulling me into his arms, caressing me tenderly.

“I’m here, Zephyrine. I’m here. And you will be fine. You will be.”

I cried softly, drifting into sleep in his arms, wrapped in pain, while I knew he would not close his

eyes. Not once. Not while I was like this.

I couldn’t sleep. Not even once. All I did was stare up at the sketch of her face and pamper her

into slumber.

Now, with the morning sun spilling into the bedchamber, I wondered what the day would bring. I lay still with her in my arms, her breath soft against me, when footsteps echoed faintly.

My brother Hades.

He hadn’t slept in the chamber my sister had prepared for him. I knew that from the silence in my halls all night. Now, standing in the doorway, he raked his hair with his fingers.

He smelled like sex, and I didn’t need to guess who had spent the night with him.

“Little brother, I…” he began, but I silenced him with a look. He raised a brow, but before I could say a word, Zephyrine stirred in my arms, her lashes fluttering open.

My jaw tightened. Rage surged as Hades, realizing what he had interrupted, slipped away without another word. By the time I blinked, he was gone.

Zephyrine moaned softly, still half asleep, and whispered drowsily,

“Good morning, Nyroth.”

Stillness. A pause that split my chest wide open.

Did she just…

Her eyes snapped open fully, and she looked straight at my face. Realization struck her, and she bolted upright, pulling away, her breath ragged.

“Good morning, Lycan.” Latest content published on find(ɴ)ovel.net

The words cracked the air like a whip.

I said nothing. Only stared, choking down the storm inside me. Then I tore myself from the bed, pulling on my robe, but her voice stopped me.

“Lycan”

I froze. Turned.

“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to… call you by anyone else’s name.”

She was sorry. I saw it in her eyes. But the apology did nothing to cool the wildfire now burning in my chest.

I nodded once, turned, and walked out of the chamber.

My feet carried me to the bath hall. Hades was there, just finishing, toweling off after a dip in the pool. He glanced up when I entered.

“I thought I’d wash quickly before you and your woman came to use it,” he said as he finished dressing up, but I ignored him, stripping my shirt away.

The silence ate at me until rage burst its cage. I grabbed the laundry basket, flung it hard, and it crashed against the wall, just as the door opened.

Zephyrine froze in the entrance.

Silence. Heavier than stone. She went pale, and I clenched my jaw, turning from her as I continued to undress.

Hades, sensing what brewed between us, slipped out quickly, leaving only us.

She stepped toward me, her sigh trembling.

“Lycan?” Her voice shook. “Lycan, I’d like to go now. I… I have to…‘

“”

“To where?” My voice cut her off. I turned fully to face her. “To where, Zephyrine?”

Something was wrong. I could see it. She didn’t look like herself.

Her throat worked as she struggled to speak, then whispered, almost broken,

“I have to go to Hue Pack.”

Hue.

I stilled. That pack. I had been there once. My jaw set.

“Why?”

No answer. Only her face, paling, twisting with pain.

My anger gave way to fear. She clutched her chest, breath shuddering. She staggered, then looked up at me, her eyes glowing faintly with an unfamiliar light.

“Nyroth and I have something to talk about. I have to go to him.”

She straightened, turned to leave, but I caught her wrist. This wasn’t anger anymore. It was dread.

“Zephyrine.” My voice cracked. She turned, chest heaving, eyes wild. She was fighting something I couldn’t see. It broke me. “Zephyrine, what is it? What’s happening to you?”

“I feel…” She struggled, her voice hoarse. “I feel an excruciating agony. Like the love I give you burns inside me, turns to pain. When I’m near you, when you hold me… it’s unbearable.”

Her words froze me. No. No, it couldn’t be…

“Zephyrine…”

“Yesterday… Nyroth came to Ash Pack,” she whispered, tears spilling down her chest. “He came, and I don’t know what he’s done to me, Lycan, but when I’m with you, I hurt. I have to go to him. I have to know.”

She pulled from my grip.

I followed, but she shook her head, sniffed, and gave a low voice.

“Stay. I’ll be back before afternoon. Don’t worry. Okay?”

I said nothing. Could say nothing.

I only stood frozen as she walked away. Away from my halls. Away from me.

She said she would return by afternoon but every bone in me knew she never would.
