“Here. It’s one of Mearez’s dresses. Serena said you’re closer to her height, but I still think Mearez’s dress will fit you well.”

I accepted the dress from him, staring at it for a long moment before glancing for a mirror only to

find none.

“You… you don’t have a mirror?” I asked, then remembered what he’d told me before, how he had never looked into one since birth.

He didn’t answer. Instead, he simply stood there, watching away as I began to dress.

“You think I’m weird?” he asked softly from behind.

I paused briefly, my fingers stilling on the fabric.

“Come help me with the back,” I said.”

He stepped forward, his fingers brushing against my bare skin as he fastened the dress. The light touch made me swallow hard, trying to contain the heat curling low in my stomach.

“You’re not weird to me,” I finally murmured, turning to face him when he finished. My palm rested flat against his chest. “From all I see and know, you’ve only… lived as you were taught.”

He swallowed, silent. I didn’t linger. I brushed past him toward the exit.

“Come on, Lycannar. Don’t keep your sisters waiting.”

I hurried down the stairs before he could catch up, laughing softly to myself until I reached the dining hall and froze.

The “family” I had expected only his two sisters and his uncle but what I saw was far larger and far more unsettling.

I turned to retreat, but Lycannar was already descending the stairs. His steps were slow, deliberate. One. Two. Until he stood before me, fully dressed, quiet and unreadable.

“Lycannar…”

He took my hand, fingers threading into mine, and simply pulled me toward the table, his jaw set with unshakable resolve.

“This is Zephyrine. She is my woman.” His tone was less introduction and more a warning.

A prickle of unease crawled over my skin. If this went badly, there would be blood.

Slowly, I scanned the table. His uncle sat across, A man with steady, calculating eyes. Beside him sat a graceful woman with cold poise. Two men and one woman followed, all richly dressed but carrying gazes that hinted at strained loyalty.

“This is my uncle, Doreth, and his wife, my aunt Eiryn,” Lycannar said. I bowed politely.

“The three are my cousins. Gealan, Baron, and Beauty.”

Baron, the middle one, smiled warmly. The others gave me dry, unwelcoming looks.

On the other side sat Mearez and Serena.

“You already know my elder sisters,” Lycannar added. Mearez beamed at me, and I couldn’t help but return it. Serena bowed; I did the same.

My eyes drifted further down. “The young man is my elder brother, Hades, and the older man is from my mother’s side, Ureh.”

my uncle

I bowed again, but both men stared back intensely, too much like Lycannar himself. Instinctively, I moved closer to him.

“Stop scaring her, Hades. She’s still healing, Lycannar warned.

A grin broke across Hades’s face instantly.

“Fair enough.”

I sat in the chair Lycannar pulled out for me, and he took his seat at the head of the table. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ f͟i͟n͟d͟n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟.net

The maids swept in with lavish dishes. Rich soup, fragrant meats, flavors I’d only dreamed of since leaving Ash Pack.

Starving, I dug in. But as I reached for the vegetables, my gaze collided with Aunt Eiryn’s, and I choked.

Lycannar was faster than the maid, pouring water, holding it out to me, his hand rubbing soothing circles on my back.

“You okay?” he asked quietly.,

I nodded when I finished.

“Thank you.”

The room went still. But the stares weren’t on me, they were on him.

“It’s strange to see you caring for a werewolf, Lycannar,” his aunt said smoothly. “Does she know who are?”

“I don’t plan to keep any secrets from her,” he replied,

Eiryn’s eyes narrowed.

“And does she have a last name? I hear she’s a rogue, no pack, no place.”

Cold washed over me. I felt his anger even without a mate bond. How was that possible?

“I don’t care about her status, Aunt. It’s her I want, not her last name.”

“Well, then,” she said, voice cutting, “she should be ready to endure the consequences of being…”

“Mother,” Baron interrupted, frowning. “Please. Let her have peace.”

She turned on him sharply.

“Let her have peace? Do you think being with Lycannar’s blood will give her peace? Do you know who the King truly is? She’s a rogue and…”

The sudden growl cut her off.

It wasn’t just a growl. It was a low, shuddering rumble that made the air vibrate. Everyone froze. Lycannar’s head lowered, his jaw tight.

His palm on the table shifted, hair sprouting, bones snapping for a moment before returning to normal.

“I will say this once,” he said, his voice edged with his beast. “If anyone calls her a rogue again, insults her, or shows her disrespect, be it family or outsider I will draw blood.”

The weight of his presence pressed over the room. The maids flinched, dropping a tray in fright.

He’s not my mate. And yet, he protected me more fiercely than Nyroth ever had.

I smiled inwardly. Jackpot. This round was mine.

“How do you feel?” Mearez pulled me toward the window, scanning my eyes and body as if searching for hidden wounds. “You don’t need to be polite. I know he can be… intense in bed.”

I lowered my gaze and gave a small nod.

“I’m fine.”

“You have no bruises?” she pressed, taking my hand gently. “Hmm?”

I shook my head and met her eyes, sighing. Her care was genuine, and it only made me love and respect her

more.

“I have no bruises, He only… choked me. But I’m fine.”

She blinked at me, her expression softening with apology before she exhaled slowly and nodded.

“I heard you issued a duel?” she asked, then added, “Lycannar seems to be taking it lightly. It’s as if he believes you’ll win.”

My gaze drifted from Princess Mearez to Lycannar, who was speaking with Hades across the hall.

“I can fight. He knows that. We spar.”

“You spar?!” she gasped, almost horrified. “With… Lycannar?”

“You sound terrified.”

“I’m surprised,” she admitted. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?”

“Not at all. He’s only primal when we get intimate.”

To that, Princess Mearez caressed my palm gently, her voice dropping to a soft vow.

“Listen. You’re not alone anymore. The Blood family, especially me, Hades, and Serena will always be in your corner. If you need anything, Zephyrine… absolutely anything… don’t hesitate to ask.”

“Princess Mearez…”

“Call me Mearez,” she interrupted with a warm smile. “You’re my younger brother’s joy. For that, I will forever worship you.”

Goosebumps spread over my arms. She truly appreciated me, not just for being here, but for accepting Lycannar… and for giving myself to him. She knew. Everyone knew.

I nodded my thanks, but before I could speak, Lycannar approached, his presence drawing my gaze down shyly.

“It’s late. Are you sure you want to go home?”

“Yes. The Dusk household will be worried.”

“I’ll walk you. Come.”

I nodded and glanced toward his family still seated at the table.

“I’ll go say goodbye first.”

Leaving him and his sister, I approached the table. Their conversation faded as I bowed slightly.

“Thank you for the meal. I’ll take my leave now.”

“So soon?” Baron asked.

“I’ve been here since last night.”

“Oh, alright. Which pack do you live in?” he asked, but before I could answer, Eiryn spoke.

“She’s been in Hue Pack for the past five years. Recently moved to White Pack.” She met my gaze with unnerving precision. “You’ll attend the council meetings as the King’s woman, won’t you?”

I froze. A sudden responsibility I wasn’t ready for.

“She’ll be available for that later,” Lycannar’s voice cut in as his arm circled my waist.

“If she can’t start learning to rule, she should at least learn the etiquette of a queen,” Eiryn muttered.

“I’ll help her with that,” Princess Serena, who had been silent until now, offered. She turned to me. “We’ll start after your duel. Agreed?”

I hesitated. This was getting serious…

“Okay.”

I bowed again and let Lycannar lead me down a hallway until I stopped and pointed toward another corridor.

“I think that’s the way to the exit,”

“You can take this way too. Besides, I want to show you something.”

He led me into the Royal Stables. My steps faltered as I spotted a white, powerful horse waiting near his own mount. My breath caught.

“A little present for accepting me into your life,” he said.

I turned sharply to stare at him.

“Did you say little?”

“Hmm?” His eyes held no hint of emotion I could read.

“Lycan..”

“Then tell me what you want. I’ll get it for you. I chose white because it suits you. She’s my horse’s mate, so I thought we could twin…”

I closed the distance and kissed him, silencing him for the first time. When I pulled back, my breathing was unsteady, and memories came rushing in.

A white horse, a gift from my father before my first war. She had died in that same war five years ago… and I had never recovered. But this mare looked exactly like her, pulling me back toward the part of myself I had buried.

I stepped forward and stroked her mane. She sniffed my face softly, already bonding with me. I giggled despite myself.

“This must be expensive…” I murmured, then looked at Lycannar again and an unease crept into.

my

chest.

Does this mean… I’m already in a relationship with a king?

“I don’t have a stable in White Pack. She’ll stand out…”

“I thought you’d say that. I’ve already plan to write to your Alpha to arrange everything. She’ll be delivered to your pack tomorrow. But tonight, you’ll ride in this carriage.”

He gestured, and I turned to see the most exquisite carriage I had ever laid eyes on.

“It’s yours. I had them make a less attractive one so it wouldn’t draw attention.”

Less attractive? If this was the modest version, I didn’t dare imagine the original.

Before I could say anything, I felt someone behind me. I turned to find a young woman, probably younger than me by a few years. Two messy buns framed her delicate face. She bowed.

“This is Blue,” Lycannar said. “She’ll be your personal maid from now on.”

“Lycannar!”

“Just for tonight, she’ll settle with you. Tomorrow, I’ll send the letter for official permission. She’s a Lycan. She needs it to live in a werewolf pack. Go on. Good night.”

“Lycannar…” I started, but he was already walking away, the people in the stables bowing as he passed.

A king. That’s who he was.

But a maid?

I was still squatting.

I was completely drained when the carriage finally rolled into White Pack. The night guards stiffened at the sight of such a grand ride and moved closer to check identities.

When they saw it was me, recognition lit their faces and they quickly stepped aside, letting the coachman Lycannar had assigned wheel us through the gates.

When the carriage stopped, I couldn’t bring myself to get out right away. It was… soothing in here. Annoyingly lovely. I could feel myself getting addicted to it, though I knew I shouldn’t.

“My lady, are you okay?” Blue’s gentle voice came from beside me, making me pause.

I turned to look at her in silence. She is beautiful, sweet, with that innocent face that made me uneasy. It wasn’t her fault, but… this was wrong.

“You should go back to the Lycan Kingdom. I’m fine. I don’t need a maid. I barely do anything anyway. You should go.”

7

Blue blinked, and I waited, expecting her to accept the escape. Instead, she lowered her head instantly.

“My lady, do I annoy you? Please don’t send me back. His Majesty will have my neck before I can explain anything to him.”

“Ugh.” I groaned, finally accepting my fate. I was the fool who had caught the King’s eyes.

I stepped down from the carriage, brushing off Blue’s attempt to help me. The door of the Dusk family

“I know you’re worried about me and…

“My gods.” She shoved past me, eyes locked on the carriage. “Zephyr, this… this carriage is one of its kind! Where did you get it?”

Wait, she isn’t worried about… gods.

“Lycannar gave it to me,” I said simply.

She froze and slowly turned to me.

“What?”

“It’s a gift… for accepting his proposal.”

“What?!” she shrieked, loud enough that the night guards who had been whispering started inching closer to eavesdrop.

“Lower your voice,” I hissed, but she was trembling just like she had the night Lycannar came to dinner.

“My gods. Zephyr, this is huge and…” She stopped mid–fret when she noticed Blue, who bowed politely.

22:17 Fri, Sep 5 R

“Who… who is she?”

“I am Blue, my lady’s personal maid,” Blue answered before I could.

Dessyn went pale.

“His Majesty gave you a personal maid?”

“I don’t know what he’s thinking. I doubt he even realizes I’m squatting here for…”

“Squatting?” she cut in with a frown. “Zephyr, this house is your home too.”

I sighed.

“But we don’t have enough room for a maid… or a coachman.”

“My lady,” the coachman finally spoke, “I’ll be returning to the Lycan Kingdom tonight and resume early tomorrow, as ordered.”

“Oh, I see. Well, thank you. Good night,” I said.

“My pleasure.” He bowed and left.

“We have a guest chamber that’s been abandoned for ages,” Dessyn said brightly. “Blue can stay there once we clean it. Right, Blue?”

“Yes, my lady.” Blue beamed, and I nearly smiled back but forced it down.

Before I could say more, Dessyn caressed the carriage one last time, then opened the door wider for Blue to enter. I shook my head and followed them into the warm house.

But once inside, memories from days ago hit me hard. My breath caught.

Moon.

“Where’s Moon?” I asked quietly.

“He’s barely left his chamber since that day,” Dessyn replied, her voice laced with worry. “I’ll help Blue settle in.”

I nodded.

“I’ll check on him.”

At his door, I knocked once but no answer. Twice, still nothing. I was about to try a third time when the door opened and Moon appeared, eyes locking with mine for a long, unreadable moment.

“Hello,” I murmured. “Can I… come in?”

He didn’t speak, only stepped aside. Chapters first released on Find✶Novel.net

His room had changed since I’d last been here years ago. My gaze caught on the massive sketch hanging on the wall. Me, in my armor, sword in hand, astride my warhorse. In my prime.

I swallowed hard. Was he… worshipping me in his own way?

I turned back to him, my heart pounding.

“Moon, I…”

“Are you happy?” His quiet question cut through my words.

I froze.

“Are you happy, Zephyr?” he asked again, softer this time. “Because if you are, then I don’t need an explanation. As long as you’re happy and safe.”

My heart sank. Lycannar was perfect if I ignored his beastly temper when he kissed or held me..If I gave him what he wanted, he’d be the best choice.

“I’m happy, Moon,” I whispered.

He swallowed, nodded once.

“Then I’m fine too.”

Silence weighed between us until I sighed.

“I’m tired. I’ll get some sleep.”

“Good night.”

I left, closing the door behind me only to stop cold in the hallway when I heard soft, muffled sobs from inside. He was… crying.

I stood there, helpless, until Dessyn appeared with a smile.

“Come on. You have to tell me everything,” she said, tugging me away from Moon’s chamber.

“Alright! Now spill it.”

I heard those words, but I pretended I didn’t and threw out another question instead.

“When is Mother returning from her trip? And I know I have to inform Father too about Blue’s arrival, and also…”

“Spill it, Zephyrine Ashmere. You did it, didn’t you?” she cut in, and I raised an eyebrow at the full name she just used.

“Will you lower your voice?”

“Oh, maybe I should start calling you Zephyrine Blood instead. Which one will you prefer?”

I rolled my eyes tiredly and began undressing for the night, but paused when I noticed her gaze trailing down my body.

“My goodness, Dessyn, will you stop?”

“Not until you spill it.”

I sighed and continued undressing. Reaching for my nightgown, I slipped it on before walking to wash my hands and face. When I climbed into bed, she had already poured out two goblets of wine. I arched a brow.

“I couldn’t help but get addicted to the wine Apex gifted me. I bought the second batch myself. It’s not as perfect, but it will do and besides, your situation calls for a celebration. Now, spill it.”

I took the goblet from her, sipping slowly. When I lowered it, I caught her watching me over the rim of hers, and I nearly snapped. She only laughed at my frustration.

“Okay. Here you go.” I began, and she froze, eyes unblinking. She wanted the full story. “Lycannar and I went to the memorial hall together, and from there… we went to the Black Tower.”

Dessyn stiffened, staring at me.

“What?”

“What?” I echoed.

“You just said Black Tower. I heard that place is forbidden to everyone, even his sisters. But you entered it?”

Her words made me pause. Earlier this morning, when I followed him into his chamber, he had been stunned to see me step in.

Wait… why could I cross the threshold when no one else could?

“We mated inside it,” I said quietly.

Dessyn’s lips twitched into a knowing smile.

I turned to see her still asleep beside me. Slipping out of bed, I padded toward the bath chamber to freshen up, but the question pulled me back.

“Who’s cooking so early?” Dessyn’s voice was groggy.

I shook my head.

“Moon is the worst at cooking. Didn’t he serve at the battlefield with you?”

I nodded, still half–asleep.

“Yeah… bad enough that everyone avoided camp meals when it was his turn.”

“So who is…” I started, but the knock at the door cut me off. My brow furrowed.

“Who would that be?”

No one in the Dusk household knocked on doors, Maybe me, but not the Dusks. So who…

“My lady?” A soft voice drifted through.

I froze. Blue?

“Ah, it’s Blue, your personal maid. How could you forget?” Dessyn teased, sitting up.

I didn’t answer. Instead, I opened the door. Blue stood there, smiling brightly, her posture perfect as she

“I’ve finished the chores and prepared breakfast. Oh, were you going to bathe? I should help you.” She stepped forward, but I put up a hand.

“Slow down. I don’t think you need to bathe me.’

With a sigh, I gestured for Blue to follow me. She came along cagerly, entering the bath chamber to prepare everything. She laid out a drying cloth, then drew a generous amount of water in the absence of soap.

Without hesitation, she undressed me gently, eased me into the tub, and slid in beside me to help.

I stayed silent, staring at nothing, my eyes fluttering close at the soothing scrub until her voice broke through, soft and warm.

“I am happy to serve you, my lady.”

My eyes fluttered open.

“You won’t be serving me for long,” I said plainly, knowing I wouldn’t need a maid once I returned to Ash Pack.

“I will be good to you,” she promised. That’s His Majesty’s order. He said I should do whatever you ask and never report anything back to him. He said if I’m good to you, you’ll like me and never let me go.”

I paused at her words. Innocent, yet… telling.

“Lycannar said that?”

She nodded.

“Out of all the ladies presented to him, he looked right at me and chose me. I know it’s a big chance, so I won’t waste it.”

My breath caught. Lycannar had looked into her eyes? Why choose her?

Alpha Auedric spoke a while longer before taking his leave. I was about to join Dessyn at the window when Moon’s door creaked open.

He stepped out at last quiet, reserved but as he emerged, I noticed Blue freeze, her gaze locking on him. Awe spread across her face.

“I’m going out,” Moon murmured, heading for the door without waiting for a reply.

Blue giggled softly.

“Does he also live here?” she asked.

I was about to answer when Moon suddenly returned, a sheet of paper in hand. His eyes met mine,
