Ch. 56..60: The Rogue is a Female Alpha chapter 56-60

Back Where 56

I stare at the piece of paper, and for a moment, I forget to breathe. For real she is truly going to a duel tonight, and not just with anyone, but with a savage rogue who wants her dead more than anyone else.

Word has already spread through the empire, and it has reached my ears that she’s now being declared as the Lycan King’s woman. But I dare to disagree.

Zeph is mine.

I brought her here. I sheltered her. I fed her until now. She is my mate and no man else’s.

The urge hits me hard. I have to see her one more time. This time, to make her stop this duel.

I leave my chamber, heading for the living room where my mother and younger sister are huddled, staring at the same printed announcement that has been sent to every pack.

“She’s really dying tonight. Mother, we must go and see how she’s dealt with,” my younger sister says. My mother only chuckles to back her up.

“I have to go. I heard she stood against Kaela. Who in her right mind would do that?”

They both pause when they notice me, but by then, anger is already flooding through me. I glare at Olivia, and she pulls back, startled.

“Are you going to the duel tonight to…” she starts, but I cut her off.

“I thought you had to apply for entry at the healer’s home. Why didn’t you?” I snap. She jolts back in fear.

My mother stands between us quickly.

“Is everything okay, son? Why are you so harsh?”

“Harsh? Why shouldn’t I be harsh? I’m asking her a question. While everyone her age is out looking for something useful to do, why is she still here at home, roaming around? Huh?”

Olivia takes another step back and pouts, which only infuriates me further.

“Try being lazy or stupid one more time, and you’ll be locked in your room for weeks.”

Before my mother can say anything else, I’ve already left. I head straight for my horse, mount up, and ride into White Pack territory.

It doesn’t take long before my horse strides into the pack’s grounds. I dismount and see a crowd gathered outside the Dusk household. Raising a brow, I head in that direction, but Alpha Auedric spots me from his garden and comes over, smiling.

“Ah, you’re here, Alpha Nyroth. You must have heard about it, that’s why you came, right?”

I frown, not following.

“About what? The duel?”

“Oh, so you came for the duel? I thought it was about the first–ever Lycan to come live in a werewolf pack.”

“What are you talking about?” My voice drops.

“The Lycan King did the best for Zephyr. He gifted her a personal maid from his kingdom. A smart, sweet lady, if you ask me. Not only that. You see the crowd over there?” He points. “They’re fawning over the horse and carriage the Lycan King gave her. She is officially his woman now. The word is already out there.”

I didn’t even realize I was already seething in anger. Before I can reply, Alpha Auedric’s beta calls him away, leaving me alone with my thoughts as he excused himself.

My gaze shifts to the crowd. The thought of Apex gifting my mate something I never thought to give her `makes me burn with jealousy. Who sent him on such an errand?

I march toward the Dusk household’s door and knock, my fist tight. The crowd starts to disperse when they notice me.

A young, beautiful woman opens the door. The energy coming off her doesn’t match that of a werewolf. Definitely, she must be the Lycan Apex sent.

I hate her instantly. Saying I feel like clawing her throat out would be an understatement. Still, I rein in my anger and glance at the white horse behind her. My heart sinks.

I turn to my own horse, just a few steps away, and the comparison stings. Mine looks pathetic beside the powerful beast standing in the yard.

“I’m Blue. Who do you ask for?” the maid says politely.

“Zeph. Call her out.” My tone is gruff.

She smiles, calling over her shoulder,

“My lady!”

I step back, fuming, but then I hear laughter from inside. Zeph. She’s laughing with her friend about something I can’t catch. How could she be chuckling at a time like this? Why does she sound… happy?

After a few seconds, the door opens wider, and Zeph steps out.

I freeze. She looks more beautiful than before, more content. She looks… happy.

When she sees me, she swallows hard but walks closer.

“Be fast with whatever you want to say. I have to prepare for the duel.”

“You’re not going to the duel, Zeph.” My tone is final. I glance at the horse. “And what is this? Since when do you take gifts from someone? Why did you beg him to give you these things? Is that why you chose him? So he could shower you with presents and maids?”

She doesn’t reply. That silence, she only uses it when she’s beyond tired of me. I’m about to speak again when Kaela’s voice cuts in.

I haven’t seen Kaela since leaving Blackbridge days ago, but here she is now dazzling, smug. She pauses when she spots Zeph, glaring at her.

“Why are you here, Kaela?” I demand.

She grins.

“I came to deliver my father’s ascension invitation to Alpha Auedric. Because your stupid mate will fail tonight, and we will win the duel.” She turns to Zeph with a glare. Then, just to provoke her, she steps toward me, placing a hand on my chest.

“You’ll come to the coronation, won’t you? Maybe you should come early. I got a new nightdress, and I want you to be the first to see me in it. We can… you can also suck me just like you used to, before the party

starts.”

The offer sends a rush of heat through me, and I lower my gaze, unable to say no. I’d be insane to turn that down.

“Alright,” I say, knowing Zeph heard every word.

Kaela smirks at her.

“Loser. You’ll lose tonight just like you lost your mate to me.”

Silence fell. I expect Zeph to walk away like before, but instead, her lips curve into a slow smile.

“How am I a loser when I’ve bagged myself a king?”

Kaela stiffens at the challenge and steps forward.

“Your mate came between my legs once, and the next day he forgot about you his fated mate.”

“And it took a king just one look before he get obsessed with me,” Zeph counters softly, stepping closer to whisper in Kaela’s ear, “He’s been fucking you for free all this time, and he’s kept it secret, never publicly acknowledging you. Mine only laid with me once, and he’s already calling me a queen.”

She pulls back with a light chuckle,

“Loser? Between a king and an Alpha, no, between Nyroth Hue and Lycannar Blood who would you even choose? Cheap slut.”

I sat in the dining room with Hades while Chantel lingered in the shadows, silent and on alert as always.

I had gone out of my way to make this happen, the preparation, the risk. Opening the portal once more to invite Hades into the Lycan Kingdom wasn’t difficult. The difficult part was knowing she might not understand me… or accept me fully when she learns the truth.

“How are you going to cope with a werewolf as your woman? And from the look in her eyes, she’s a clever one,” Hades remarked, his tone casual but knowing. I said nothing, lifting my glass and draining it in one motion. I reached for the bottle, but he pulled it away and looked at me.

I had been drinking, and I still didn’t know why. Maybe because I’d never felt this fear before, not until after I laid with her.

After she stepped into my inner chamber, shattering every barrier, breaking the strongest spells with nothing but her soul.

She is no ordinary woman. Either she is demon… or my mate. But I saw no mark on her when I bedded her again, nor when I bathed her. She bears no claim of mine.

I exhaled sharply and bowed my head. Hades studied me from across the table. A demon by birth, He is my stepbrother, older, cunning, and next in line to rule the Demon Realm after my stepfather’s death.

Out of everyone in the demon royal family, Hades was the one I respected, even loved. He had spent long months in the Lycan Kingdom during my youth, and those days were some of my best memories.

“You’re worried about what she’ll think when she finds out who you really are,” Hades said quietly. I looked at him and gave a small nod.

“She’s stubborn. Not easily tamed. Strong. I don’t know if she’ll accept a man who loses his mind every full moon.”

“She gave you her virginity,” he countered easily. “She’ll give you her support.”

I shook my head.

“You really don’t know Zephyrine.”

I leaned back in my chair, remembering the way my demon side had surfaced in the pool just to kiss her.

gods, why did he do that? He’s too possessive. He won’t let my Lycan form enjoy her. He wants all of her for himself. They were meant to share, but no… he wants her entirely.

“Do you think the council will accept her?” Hades asked.

“Anyone who opposes her will die by Chantel’s sword.”

“And her family?”

“Her parents are dead.”

“Siblings?”

I hesitated, frowning. I had never asked.

“I’m not going to leave Zephyrine, Hades,” I said firmly. “Even if she doesn’t want me, I’ll have her.”

He didn’t mock me. Instead, he smiled, nodding in approval.

“That’s the spirit. When I heard you summoned me, I wondered what could be so important. But this… my gods. I support it.” He punched my arm lightly. “It’s good to see you fall in love, little brother.”

Fall in love? I froze. Is that what this is? If so, why does it hurt so much when she isn’t near?

I glanced at him and asked, knowing he have his own share of experience.

“Have you ever felt this way for a woman? Like a second without her is hell?”

He only grinned wider and punched me harder.

“Strange to see you like this. How did you meet her?”

I exhaled slowly.

“At my father’s funeral.”

At that, Hades went silent and poured me another drink. “Nothing good came from that stepfather of mine except my two stepsisters… and you. Drink up.“.

I drank, and when I lowered the glass, he was watching me with that calculating gaze I knew too well.

“It’s the best move, little brother. The best. I’m glad you did it.”

I knew what he was referring to, and my mind sank into those blood–soaked memories.

“I haven’t found peace, Hades. I thought killing him would give me that, but I was wrong. However…” My voice faltered. “Last night, after I laid with Zephyrine… something in me changed. I want her at all costs, even if I have to chain her beside me. Even if I have to break her so she can’t run from me.”

Hades didn’t flinch. He didn’t look at me like I was mad. He understood, just as he had understood when he helped me crush my father’s skull. Updates are released by FіndNovel.net

“Then we’ll do it,” he said simply. “If she won’t stay willingly, we’ll imprison her. Break her spirit until she crawls back to you.”

His words should have unsettled me. Instead, I felt relief.

That’s when I heard hurried footsteps. Mearez appeared, her face pale.

“The duel has been issued, Lycannar,” she said breathlessly. “It’s tonight.”

My body went rigid. The death duel?

Back Where 58

I stood silently by the window, staring at the dark sky swallowing the empire. From here, I could see the pack members passing through the White Pack Gate, making their way to the duel arena already prepared for tonight’s fight.

To the death. That was what this duel was about.

I folded my arms across my chest, wondering what if I slip? What if I fail? What if my techniques are rusty, just like Lycannar said? What if…

My thoughts broke when the White Pack Gate swung open wide for a carriage to wheel inside.

My gaze sharpened. It was the same carriage Luna Tahlia had used. I leaned forward, watching as the wheels rolled to a stop. She alighted slowly, cloaked with her hood covering her face, and walked toward the dusk door.

A knock followed.

I turned as Blue quickly went to answer. The door opened, and Luna Tahlia stepped in.

“Zephyrine,” she called, hurrying to me with open arms. I embraced her, though confusion knotted in my chest. What is she doing here?

“Zephyrine, I came to say goodbye.”

Dessyn and Moon rose from where they had been sitting in silence, moving closer to listen.

“Why would you say goodbye now? The duel is about to start.”

She shook her head.

“You’ve done enough for me already. Standing against Yadev and her venomous daughter was victory in itself. The loyalists to the bloodline and Alpha’s seat have arranged for me to flee to another pack, to live quietly with Young Black.”

She took my hand before I could reply, patting it gently.

“I won’t be the reason you die, Zephyrine. If you refuse the duel as the Lycan King’s woman, they’ll let you go. I’ll be fine on my own.”

Her words fell heavy in the room. My chest tightened, but I squeezed her hand softly.

“Luna Tahlia… this isn’t just about survival. This is about clearing your name.”

She looked away, but I pressed on.

“They called you a slut. They said your son is a bastard. Will you be able to look into his and…”

“But I can’t have your death on my hands. What if you lose?” she trembled.

Luna Tahlia swallowed hard. I understood her hesitation. I wouldn’t entrust my life and my child’s to a stranger either.

She let out a shaky sigh and walked to the window/ gazing out as though weighing the world.

“You’re right. For Young Black… I have to believe in you and stay.” She turned back, clasping my hand with desperate strength. “Promise me, Zephyrine. You will win at all costs.”

Goosebumps prickled my skin. I nodded.

“My life is also on the line. I’m far too young to die. Besides… I still have a sexy man to enjoy first.”

Her lips curved into a small smile, easing the tension.

Then came footsteps and a knock. Blue opened the door to reveal Alpha Auedric, already dressed for the arena, his beta at his side.

“The duel will begin soon. We should leave.”

I glanced at Luna Tahlia, and she nodded. Together, we walked out. In her carriage, her young son sat beside his grandmother. Olga greeted me warmly, and I returned the smile before turning to Blue.

“You take the boy when we get to the arena.”

“Yes, my lady.”

For a moment, I wondered if Lycannar would be there but perhaps this was strictly werewolf business.

Alpha Auedric caught my gaze, his confident smile steady. He already knew who I was, and that trust in his eyes made my throat tighten.

“You should win one more, Zephyrine.”

I swallowed and nodded.

I didn’t take my horse. Instead, I climbed into my carriage with Dessyn and Blue, while Moon rode with Auedric. Luna Tahlia joined us as well.

The wheels turned, carrying us beyond the pack grounds toward the arena, a place where blood was meant to be shed and life meant to be taken.

But whose life? Whose blood?

Back Where 59

Arriving at the arena, I realized I had come too early. The rogues had plotted their games and arrived ahead of time. Follow current novᴇls on Fɪnd-Novel.net

Kaela, ever the schemer, was already there. Many wolves from other packs had gathered, eager to watch the spectacle, the Lycan King’s woman fighting for the Luna who had been framed.

I took my position near the floor, eyes sweeping over the wide battleground. My heart sank at the thought of Zeph being overpowered, pinned, and killed before my eyes… all because of what I had helped set in motion.

I sat down, my mind replaying the events earlier at White Pack. I had been pushed to my limit, I had snapped, and then I’d heard her admit she had slept with him. That meant Zeph was no longer a virgin. She was the Lycan King’s possession now.

A carriage bearing my pack’s crest arrived, and my gut tightened when my mother stepped down with Olivia. Both of them were smiling, eager to witness Zeph’s downfall as they always were. I could hardly blame them. I had never stood in their way before, and now their malice had grown unchecked. My mother’s ruthlessness I understood. She had been born and bread with high status but tragedy made her went kow once.

After clawing her way back to the top she had refused to let anyone of low status threaten her place.

Their eyes scanned the arena until they found me. They came rushing over, bright smiles masking their venom. Olivia still avoided my gaze after my earlier outburst.

We sat in silence as the arena filled, until another carriage rolled in, bearing the Lycan Kingdom’s crest. My stomach twisted. It was the same carriage the Lycan King had embraced Zephyrine beside. Rage burned in my chest, but I could do nothing.

I watched as she stepped down, the maid assigned to her at her side, along with Alpha Auedric, now smug over his alliance with the Lycan King. Luna Tahlia was with them as they disappeared toward the back.

The arena hushed as the opponents arrived, and soon the signal fire was lit. Kaela rushed to the rogue fighter, whispering in his ear before slipping him something. My heart dropped. They wouldn’t fight fair.

Zeph had to know. I shot to my feet, ready to go backstage when a sudden silence rippled over the crowd, the kind that only one presence could command.

I looked up and froze. Apex Blood.

He didn’t arrive alone. Beside him were his two elegant elder sisters, and behind him, his ever–present mysterious bodyguard. One more figure followed. He is different, unsettling, as if he didn’t belong to this empire at all. All of them dressed in black, hauntingly striking.

Apex, gentle only to his sisters, seated them before folding his arms and scanning the arena in silence.

Movement drew my gaze to the back. Zeph stepping out. It was as though she had felt him arrive. She paused when he turned to her, and the air shifted. Silence deepened. The wind swirled.

every sky,

It was like the connection between them, cold chills sweeping through the arena.

“Lycannar…” I heard her breathe and then she was running into his arms, their mouths meeting in a kiss that was anything but gentle. Hungry. Starved. He kissed her like he wanted to consume her entirely, and she clung to him as if she couldn’t get close enough.

My knees weakened. My mate kissing another man before the entire world. And no one would judge her. I was the one who insisted our bond stay private.

I watched her smile at him, so free, so unburdened.

“They won’t fight fair, Zephyrine,” he murmured, and she nodded, jaw set in determination.

“Use more speed than strength. No matter your skill, he’s a male wolf. He’ll be stronger.”

Again, she nodded obediently. A call from backstage pulled her attention, and she started to leave but then she turned back, ran to him, and kissed him again, fiercely.

“You kill him when it’s over. Don’t hesitate. He won’t if he gets the chance.”

As though compelled, she nodded again and vanished backstage.

I collapsed into my seat, shaken by what I had just seen and overheard.

Was this new Zeph going to be a killer? Was he poisoning her mind already? And why, in the name of the empire, was she kissing him like that?

No answer came, only the deep drumbeats signaling the duel’s start. And just like that… it began.

Back Where 60

“You should go sit with Lycannar and his family. They’re here at the arena,” I told Luna Tahlia, who nodded and moved toward the stands.

Blue was clutching Young Black’s arm, and guards were already circling them, as if prepared to prevent any escape. The drums thundered, a sound that seemed to lodge in my throat.

I was dressed in combat gear, but I didn’t feel like the warrior I’d been five years ago. I turned away to catch my breath when Dessyn’s palm landed softly on my shoulder, patting once.

“Breathe. Five years is a long time to lose your edge,” she murmured near my ear. “But you are an Ashmere, Zephyr. It’s in your blood to take the blade and spill it for a worthy cause. Breathe, and you’ll do it.”

I obeyed, shutting my eyes, inhaling deeply. But the face that flashed in my mind wasn’t my opponent’s. It was Lycannar’s. My eyes flew open, heart tightening.

What if I lose? What if I die here? Would he move on to another woman? The thought hollowed me out.

Even without looking toward him, I could feel his gaze heavy, unblinking, burning through the space between us.

He’d kissed me earlier. He’d given me advice that came from someone who’d seen far more battles than I had. It feels like it.

“The duel begins!” The announcer’s voice rang out, the drums boomed again, and my jaw locked.

Enough. I was going in.

I reached for Moon’s sword, which I have borrowed. The one that had won countless battles. His pride. His legacy. This would not be the day it tasted defeat.

I gave Dessyn one last look, no hug. This wasn’t an ending. It was the beginning of a war.

When I stepped into the wide arena, the roar hit me like a wave. Werewolves loved the clash of steel..

I didn’t look toward Lycannar, but I felt him, And now, I also feel him with his elder brother. The emotions only made my spine straighten further. I would not fail with those eyes on me.

My opponent, a snarling rogue, waited with jaw tight and muscles coiled. Kaela herself read the terms and conditions, her smile curling with malicious satisfaction. She wanted to see me fall. For original chapters go to fιɴdnοvel.net

The drum sounded too fast. I barely blinked before a shove knocked me to the ground.

“Stand and die like a heroine,” the rogue growled, “or I’ll slice your throat before the man who loves you can even blink.”

The spiked boulder he swung barely missed me as I rolled away. My body moved on instinct. I scrambled up, reaching for my sword, but he rammed into me again, a vicious blow that sent me to my back, blood flooding my mouth.

The wound closed almost instantly, but rage surged hotter than pain.

I steadied my breath, calculating his steps. Once. Twice. The moment he closed in again, I remembered Lycannar’s words and struck.

Steel sang. My blade tore across his belly. He froze, eyes wide, hand pressing to the sudden warmth spreading there. Murmurs rose from the crowd as he pulled his palm away, staring at the blood.

“Who trained you?” he spat. “They said you were a rogue, nameless, nothing. How can you move that fast?”

His fury made him reckless. He swung the boulder in wild arcs, but I batted it aside and cut into his arm, the wound gaping open.

Desperation flickered in his eyes as he reached into his tunic for something. Poison, perhaps. I didn’t wait to find out.

One clean strike. My sword kissed his throat.

“I am an Ashmere,” I whispered in his ear as his life spilled out. Horror clouded his face before his knees buckled and he fell.

The arena suddenly fell silent. They hadn’t expected this, hadn’t expected me. They’d underestimated me for the last time. They never expected the duel to end in an instant.

Blood dripped from my hands, chilling my skin. But I knew where to find warmth.

I turned toward Lycannar and ran. The blade clattered to the ground as I reached him, throwing myself into his arms. He held me close, uncaring about the blood staining him, his hand steady against my back. Proud.

“I knew you would do it,” he murmured. “From the moment I touched your hands and saw your eyes, I knew you could overcome anything.”

My heart bloomed in his arms. In that moment, I needed no one else. Not Nyroth, who must be staring in shock, nor Kaela, whose smugness had just shattered.

They had lost. I had won.

And now, it was time for Young Black to take the throne.

The question is… would he?
