I drifted awake, stirring, and immediately noticed he wasn’t beside me. I fluttered my eyelids open, and darkness swallowed the bedchamber. All the candles had been blown out, leaving only a shadowy silhouette of a creature seated in the center of the room. Lycannar in his Lycan form.
Fear, every being feels it, even the strongest warrior. Yet years of discipline had made me addicted to the rush, and because of it, I didn’t scream.
My eyes trailed down the figure. I couldn’t make out details in the darkness, but I knew it was him. The anklets around his ankles gave him away. Now they glowed faintly, as though keeping him bound.
Gently, I sat up, reaching for a candle, but his voice cut through the silence. It was the beastly sound I had heard only when he lost control.
“Don’t,” he said, and I went cold.
I turned back to him. Even in shadow, I could feel his gaze. He sat on the chair, enormous, unlike any Lycan. I had ever seen. Silence stretched between us, my heart hammering:
“Why are you so… big?” I asked quietly.
He didn’t respond at first. Then, softly, he said,
“I can’t sleep. I can’t tell if you’re real anymore.”
“Lycannar…”
“I grew up in hatred and blood. All my life, my father spat no pleasant words at me, only cruelty until the day he died. He would stand at that doorstep he can’t cross, sneering, and say ‘You will always be alone. You will never find peace. You will never be happy.”
Goosebumps crawled across my skin as I watched his legs shift. The anklets glowed, as if imprisoning him even when he moved.
“I’ve been trapped in this chamber for years, in this kingdom. I believed those words… until I met you, Zephyrine. When I went to the Empire Grove to retrieve the cure flower… I started seeing things. My ugliest memories, voices in my head. His voice, reminding me I would never find peace or happiness. Sometimes he’d be among my people; other times, in my own home. It looked so real I couldn’t tell illusion from truth. I told myself it was the Grove… but now, now I know.”
“Lycan.”
“His voice has always been there, even before I went to the Grove. That place didn’t harm me because I was already doomed. Can a king who has already fallen fall again?”
“Don’t say that,” I whispered, my heart breaking at his bitterness. “Lycan, never say that to yourself.”
Silence returned, broken only by our shared breathing. Finally, he spoke again.
“Staring at your sleeping face… it’s addictive, Zephyrine, and…” He paused, letting out a shaky sigh. “I am
scared.”
“You are a king,” I reminded him softly.

“A king has fears. Especially one who has a woman like you. I fear you’ll leave me, that my intensity, my jealousy, my obsession will scare you away. You’ll call me toxic, and I’ll lose you like I lost everyone else.”
My heart clenched. I rose and lit a candle. When I turned back, he had shifted to his normal form, still seated, still immense in presence. Slowly, I approached him, letting the blanket fall to reveal my bare skin.
I placed the candle on the table and straddled him, feeling his hands grip my waist tenderly.
“My father taught me many things, Lycan. Among them… his favorite advice is wherever my heart lies, I should follow. My fated mate loses each time I give him chances.Through disrespect, neglect, lies. But you, Lycannar… you are different. Rough when making love, yes. Obsessed at times, yes. But last night, what I said about love… it’s the truth.”
“Zephyrine…”
“I love you, Lycannar Blood, with all my heart. I love your face, your hair, your sisters, your home, your eyes, Your heart. I love everything about you… except your killing.”
He remained silent, searching my eyes. His touch on me grew hesitant. He swallowed hard.
“I can work on that.” he murmured.
“You won’t kill anyone for my sake? Promise me.”
He stayed silent, and I cupped his cheek warmly.
“Answer me, Lycannar. You won’t let anyone manipulate you. You won’t let old voices rule you, hmm?”
He swallowed again, heavy with conflict.
“You won’t ever leave me if I didn’t kill anyone, right? You’ll reject the man who claims he’s your mate?”
My heart tightened at his plea. I leaned in to kiss him.
“Lycannar.”
“I will lose my mind if I see him with you again, Zephyrine. I swear to the gods, I will.”
My chest ached, and I pressed against him, lips meeting his as he whispered.
“I know it’s too soon, but can I call you my Queen?”
I pulled back to meet his gaze. His expression was serious, unyielding.
“Can I call you my love too?”
No words came. Instead, he kissed me tenderly, gripping my waist, guiding me to sit on him as he entered me gently.
“You let me know if I get too harsh,” he groaned lowly. I circled my hands around his neck, surrendering to
his thrusts, helpless, moaning into the night.

Waking up in the morning in Black Tower hit different. The soft murmur of Lycan Kingdom traders, discussing their errands as they departed, filled in from the window.

I rose to find Lycannar at the table, drinking his morning herbal tea. His royal robe draped over his broad shoulders, his hair still dripping wet.
His eyes locked on me, fixed on the exact position I had seen him in the midnight hours before we gave in to our desire.
“Good morning,” he whispered softly, and I felt a shy smile curl across my lips.
I pulled the blanket to my chest and sat up, letting my tangled hair cascade down my back. His gaze never left me, and my heart swelled as I realized there was no avoiding the fact that I was utterly exposed.
I leaned back against the headboard, studying him. Chapters first released on fіndnovel.net
“Good morning.” I finally murmured.
“How do you feel?”
I lowered my gaze, whispering quietly,
“I’m fine.”
“No soreness?”
I shook my head, cheeks warming.
“No.” Then curiosity got the better of me. “Lycan, I haven’t seen Chantel anywhere since yesterday.”
He stared at me silently, and I quickly understood the weight of that quiet.
“He’s your bodyguard. I just want to know where he is,” I pressed.
“He is in his bed chamber down the hall,” he said at last. I bit my lower lip, noting a shift in him. His gaze flicked from my face to my chest, his jaw tightening.
“Somehow… I hate how the blanket clings to your body so tightly,” he muttered. His eyes lifted, intense. “It was supposed to be me. I’ve never been jealous of a blanket until now.”
A shiver ran through me. His obsession was awake, wild, and growing by the second.
“I’ll take my bath,” I said quietly, quickly tugging the blanket away, hoping to appease him.
I moved toward the exit, only for him to catch my wrist.
“No morning kiss?” he asked.
“I have to clean up. I’ll have bad breath.”

He ignored my words entirely. In one swift motion, Lycannar pulled me onto his lap and kissed me tenderly. His hand slid to my breast, and I, caught between curiosity and desire, pressed myself closer, beginning to undress him.
What began as a warning of his obsession turned swiftly into him claiming my body like it belonged to him alone.

With his palm resting on my lower back, he led me to the dining room and pulled a chair for me beside him.
“Thank you,” I said, lowering myself respectfully before Lord Dareth, Lycannar’s uncle, and his cousins, seated across from me.
They returned the gesture with their own bows. I turned to the Lycan princesses sitting beside me, who smiled warmly.
Breakfast began. The maids filled my cup, but I paused, staring at the meal. A few days ago, I had been poisoned, and I still didn’t know the source.
I trusted the Lycan princesses with their dinner last night, but this breakfast with Lycannar’s cousins and uncle, and food prepared by the maids… I hesitated.
“Uh… Your Majesty? I have something to inform you about, Lord Dareth’s voice interrupted. I kept my focus on the meal, debating whether to eat.
“It’s about the beta competition. We’ve completed it and have a winner.”
Silence fell. I glanced at Lycannar. Of course, no competition had taken place because yesterday was merely the announcement.
Lycannar didn’t respond but I could tell he was listening.
“According to the contest, your cousin, Baron, won. He will be your beta. The elders and I have set the date and time of the ritual that will bind you both, as well as the ceremony for his ascension. It will be held two days before the next full moon.”
Lycannar remained silent, merely nodding. Lord Dareth continued.
“About the ceremony… do you remember the fearless, beautiful werewolf lady who is now the Alpha’s daughter? Keala Yadev?”
I froze at her name wondering What about Keala.
“She will be called to host the ceremony.”
Silence descended over the room. I turned to Lycannar, waiting for his response.
“The hostess that oversee my coronation should host the ceremony,” he said firmly.
“I know you’ll say that, Your Majesty, because this mistress you have with you is her best friend. But worry not. Keala is knowledgeable in hosting,” Lord Dareth added smoothly.

Then, suddenly, Lycannar grabbed the fork from his plate and drove it into his uncle’s palm. His sisters jerked back, his cousin’s eyes went wide, and Lord Dareth screamed. A maid dropped a tray in fright.
“Lycannar!” the eldest cousin challenged, standing. But the king’s sharp glare pinned him in place.
“Sit!”
He dared not disobey. Slowly, he sank back into his chair as Lycannar withdrew the fork, the wound healing almost instantly. He tossed the fork aside, reached for his goblet, and drank as though nothing had happened.
“She will be my queen soon. The queen of this kingdom. Call her dirty names, and you will pay with your life.” Lycannar declared.
I froze at the public proclamation. Even the moon goddess bond couldn’t stop him now.

They left one by one. Lord Dareth and his three children. I could tell from their silence and the sharpness in their gaze that they already loathed me. I remained still, my head bowed over the breakfast before me, my appetite completely gone.
“You should eat your breakfast. It’s not poisoned,” Princess Mearez said softly. I looked up at her. She still appeared shaken from what had happened, but the calm in her expression suggested she’d seen Lycannar snap like this before.
I turned my attention back to the meal and picked up my cutlery, but before I could take a bite, a messenger entered and bowed low.
“My lady? Your friend is outside,” he said. My eyes widened, and I stared at him.
A friend? Just then, the faint scent of the Dusk household swirled in the air.
It was Dessyn.
I hurried to the exit, stepping into the open courtyard, and saw her standing beside my carriage, a wide smile on her face as she marveled at the kingdom.
“Dessyn?” I called, and she paused, turning toward me.
“Zephyr.” She rushed into my arms, hugging me tightly. “My gods… you’ve only been gone a day, but it felt like a year.”
I pulled back, taking in her face.
“Why are you here?”
She looked past me at the vast kingdom, sighing softly.
“Wealth at its peak. If I were you, I wouldn’t even bother coming home. But then again… you are an Ashmere. A werewolf from the richest pack in the empire.”
I raised an eyebrow at her words and nudged her gently.
“Learn to keep my last name off your lips until I reveal myself. What are you doing here?” I asked again, more firmly.
She let out a weary sigh.
“My mom is back from her trip… and she wants to see you.”
I froze, confusion crossing my face.
“She knows I’m here?”
“Yes. And she urgently wants you back home. She sounded… bothered, even after I assured her you were in safe hands. Apex can kill anyone but certainly not you. Still, she insists, and here I am.”

I frowned at her words but finally nodded.
“I… I need to say my goodbyes to the Lycan royals, then I’ll go.”
I returned to the dining hall, but only the Lycan princesses remained. Lycannar was nowhere to be seen. I approached them quickly.
“It’s my friend who’s come. I have to go. Where is Lycannar?”
“He left just now. He should return soon,” Princess Mearez replied, while Princess Serena grumbled beside her.
“They ruined my breakfast. I still don’t understand why my uncle Dareth would speak so carelessly in front of the King. Didn’t he know how much Lycannar cherishes Zephyrine?”
I swallowed hard. Princess Mearez rose and took my wrist, guiding me toward the window with a sigh.
“Zephyrine… have you discussed birth control with my brother?” she asked.
“He doesn’t want any delay,” I whispered, and at once a small smile tug at her lips. She paused, then asked softly.
“And you? What do you think?”
I studied her face, seeing how desperately she wanted a certain answer.
“I love Lycannar… and I would also love to have his pup.”
The color drained from Princess Mearez’s face, shock written across her features. She stared at me a long moment before suddenly pulling me into a tight hug.
“Thank you so much, Zephyrine,” she whispered, looking into my eyes when she pull back. “Have you confessed to him already?”
I nodded, exhaling slowly.
“Last night.”
“My gods… Lycannar will be even more intense now. The voices in his head will be…” she began, then paused to caution herself but I nodded.
“I already know about it. He told me last night. He thought the voices came from the empire grove, but… no. They were there before that. We plan on facing it together.”
She gazed at me again, gratitude shining in her eyes.
“Thank you, Zephyrine. You have no idea what he has endured. I am so glad he has a piece of your heart.”
“You make it sound like I’m doing him a favor. He completes me, cherishes me, and makes me feel love. I am blessed too, Princess Mearez.”
Silence fell between us, broken only when she lowered her gaze, speaking softly.
“Zephyrine… the poison that made you sick days ago, it wasn’t from your meal or your water. It came from

poisonous blood. Just a drop can be deadly. Then I thought back… and remembered the duel you fought a week ago. That rogue you killed… his blood splashed on you. That mean it was poisoned. Who could do such evil? Who would hold such a grudge against you that they’d try to kill you without your knowledge?”
My knees went weak at her words.
Kaela.
It had to be Kaela.
A cold chill ran down my spine as the thought crossed my mind. Nyroth… he must have known about it, right?
“Zephyrine?”
“Please… tell Lycannar I’ve left,” I said urgently, moving to go. Then I paused, turning back to grasp Princess Mearez’s hand, pleading. “Please don’t tell my love about this. He would go insane and that would mean more bloodshed.”
“Isn’t that what whoever did this deserves?” she asked gently.
“Sometimes… death is too merciful.” I released her hand. “I’ll see you again, Princess Mearez.”

Lycannar
I paused at the foot of the stairs, staring at the dining hall. She was not yet back.
“Lycannar.” My eldest sister rose from her seat, eyes fixed on me. “Zephyrine left already.”

I said nothing for a long moment. I was surprised she had gone in such a hurry, without a word, without even a goodbye. My gaze dropped to the jewelry I had come to deliver, and I tucked it away, my heart heavy with strange, unfamiliar feelings.
Quietly, I began to make my way back to my tower, but Serena’s voice called from behind.
“Are you okay with Baron being your beta?” I turned to stare at her in silence. “He will share a vow with you and feel your energy. The kingdom will fall into his hands when you cannot rule. I know my uncle, Dareth. He didn’t perform any competition. He only seeks to rule through his son.”
I blinked gently and moved forward to the chair where I settled, remaining quiet, aware of my fatigue. Mearez reached out to me, but I pulled away from her hand. Slowly, I looked up to see horror etched across
her face.
“Lycannar… you used your curse again, didn’t you?” she asked, anger evident in her voice. I looked away.
“How do you mean?” Serena asked, curious. “We were all there when he broke the rule of his curse a week ago.”
Mearez did not answer; her anger rendered her speechless. She suddenly turns to leave, but I shot up to block her path.
“Mearez, I am fine.”
“Get out of my way, Lycannar. I won’t say it again.” Her glare was sharp, full of fire.
Serena moved forward, worry etched in her features.
“What’s going on? Did he break the rule of his curse again?”
“It’s nothing,” I muttered softly. Serena froze, shocked.
“You broke the rule of your curse again, right after surviving agonizing pain? Why?!” she demanded. I sighed, exhausted.
Their anger softened into concern, and Mearez took my hand, guiding me down into the chair.
“How do you feel? Lycannar… does your life mean nothing to you?”
“I can’t die. Don’t worry about it,” I muttered, lowering my head and trying to fight the pain. I felt Serena’s palm rest gently on my arm, and I sighed softly, appreciating their presence and support.
“If you ever use your curse like this again, I will inform my brother Hades,” Mearez warned. I slowly lifted my gaze to her.

I didn’t want that. Hades was as kind as he was unforgiving, and he had made me promise never to put myself through such pain again. But I could not stand aside while those close to Zephyrine suffered or die.
“I’m sorry I made you both worry,” I murmured. Silence settled around us, but Mearez’s hand stayed warm on mine, Serena’s palm soothing on my shoulder.
Finally, my eldest sister spoke softly.
“Lycannar… I asked Zephyrine. She told me… bearing your pups is what she wants. She… she is in love with you.”
My heart skipped a beat. I was silent, overwhelmed, feeling the awe in Serena’s gaze as she stepped back to ask.
“Are you sure she told you about love? Mearez, she did?”
“Ask your brother yourself,” Mearez said softly. “His woman confessed to him last night.”
Serena turned to me instantly, her gaze heavy with questions. I met it with a nod, sighing.
“I want her. I want her so much,” I muttered, lowering my gaze. “I have never wanted anything as much as I want Zephyrine. All of her.”
“My gods,” Serena whispered, coming forward to press a hard kiss to my lips. “I’m so happy for you, baby brother… someone like Zephyrine, who’s beautiful, smart, and strong. I couldn’t imagine anyone more perfect for you. Mearez, what do you think?”
Mearez remained silent, her eyes tinged with sadness. Softly, she said,
“What if she sees Lycannar for who he truly is and withdraws? What then?”
“Mearez, you’re thinking too far,” Serena cautioned, though Mearez pressed on.
“They are making love already, without barriers. What if she gets pregnant? Do you know what her pup will be? Part werewolf, part Lycan, and part demon. She needs to know what she’s getting into, Lycannar. Don’t you think you should tell her now?”
A cold chill ran down my spine at Mearez’s words, but before I could respond, my uncle Dareth entered, flanked by seven elders from the council.
An official, sudden meeting. I straightened, concealing any sign of surprise. My sisters mirrored my expression. None of us expected this.
“Your Majesty, I apologize for the impromptu gathering, but we have found something significant while clearing your father’s chamber.”
I froze.
What could they have found? Anything about the late king was enough to haunt me. My sisters‘ glances mirrored my confusion.
“Here it is. A decree. Written, signed, and stamped. As if my brother knew death was coming for him, he left these final words.”
My uncle Dareth handed me the royal scroll. I stared at it for what felt like an eternity. It was sealed.
Why hadn’t I noticed it the night I strangled him?

Finally, I reached for the scroll, unfolding it carefully. The handwriting was unmistakable my father’s. Authentic. True.
“By my sovereign will, I declare this my final and unbreakable decree. Should death claim me, my only son, Lycannar, shall ascend the throne to rule over all Lycans. At his side shall sit Cyran Selric as his Queen. Should he fail to honor this command, my daughters Mearez and Serena shall be stripped of every title, every privilege, and cast into eternal servitude as slaves. Let it be known this decree is absolute, eternal, and backed by the full power of the crown. None shall dare defy it, for to do so is to invite the wrath of the realm itself.”
The scroll went cold in my hands. My blood ran icy. I could feel my sisters‘ eyes on me, but I did not look up. Even in death, my father had found a way to torment me. Why?
Back Where 85“Ugh. Are we home already?” Dessyn’s voice comes, whining. “I could live in this carriage forever. Look at how comfy it is?”
I don’t respond. My mind is elsewhere, lost in itself, lost in thought. I pray, with the little connection and bond left in me, that it isn’t true. That Nyroth doesn’t know anything about Kaela’s intention to kill me.
Unaware of my surroundings, I step out of the carriage, making my way toward the Dusk household, my mind deep in thought, until I feel a nudge from behind.
I blink, snapping back to reality, to find myself standing in the living room. Dessyn stares at me, concern etched in her features.
“What’s wrong, Zephyr?” she asks, but I can’t answer yet. I look away and freeze as I see movement ahead. Morwen, the great priestess, Dessyn’s mother.
She steps out from the hall, stopping just a few paces away. Instinctively, I rush toward her, ready to throw myself into her arms, but she surprises me. She holds out a palm, stopping me cold.
“Stay right there,” she says. I pause, confused. “I heard the rumors, and I’ve come to realize they are nothing but the truth.”
Morwen, a fine woman with short hair stopping at her shoulders, has always been a motherly friend to me. She collaborated with the healer back in Ash Pack during crises and sometimes performed rituals before the Ashmeres went to war. I have always loved and respected her work, but now, after years of absence, she seems… changed.
I try to read her when Blue appears from ahead, her head bowed, sadness written in her posture. I raise an eyebrow in horror.
Wait… what?
“You’re here, My Lady,” she murmurs, hiding her face, but I refuse to just stand aside. I walk up to her and see tears in her eyes. She blinks them away and forces a smile.
“What’s wrong?” I ask, not at her, but at Dessyn. My eyes widen in shock. “What’s wrong with my personal maid? I didn’t bring her here to be hurt. What’s happening?”
Dessyn looks equally surprised, exchanging glances between me and Blue. Before she can respond, Nathan, Dessyn’s father, walks into the living room, exhaustion sagging his shoulders.
“Father,” Dessyn rushes to him, concern in her voice. “Father, what’s going on?”
“Ask your crazy mother!” Nathan snaps, and I stiffen.
I slowly turn my gaze to Morwen. She juts her chin, stepping forward.
“First, Zephyr, you are like a daughter to me, and I am giving you an order,” she says, pointing at Blue. “This Lycan cannot stay here.”

I freeze. An order. From her.
“Why?” I ask, disbelief thick in my voice.
“Why?” she repeats, stepping closer, staring down at me. “You are an Ashmere. A warrior, a leader and yet you allow a Blood to taint you.”
A Blood? That’s Lycannar. Lycannar Blood.
“I heard the rumors on my travels,” she continues, “and at first I doubted them. But now, seeing the darkness he brings here, I know it is true. This maid of yours returns to the Lycan Kingdom today, and you will end whatever is between you and that… monster this very day.”
My heart plummets. Silence falls, shattered only by Nathan’s voice.
“Morwen, I have told you already. The King is a good man. He had come for dinner before and You certainly won’t tell Zephyr what to do!”
Morwen smirks at me.
“A good man? Really? You have no idea what he is under the full moon’s light. Do you know why the Black Tower was built for him before he was even born? Do you think the Moon Goddess, who bound you to another man with a Mate Bond, is stupid? Do you think your dead parent will rest in peace if they know you allow a monster to see your body?”
“His name is Lycannar,” I mutter quietly, but my voice is firm. Morwen freezes, taking a step back. “Those who don’t know his real name call him Apex. You can, too or better yet, address him with respect. Call him His Majesty. He is a King. Never call him a monster.”
Her face turns pale, and she spits on the floor.
“I should have known this would happen,” she snarls. “He has poisoned your mind, Zephyr. That King is not a man you can be involved with. His secrets are all dark. If you think he will make you happy, you are wrong. The bond you share will bring only destruction. You will return to your mate and stay with him. Do you understand?”
“Mother, what is wrong with you?” Dessyn straightens from her father, stepping between us. “What is going on? What are you saying?”
“That she cannot marry a monster! A freak! He is far from holy. He is cursed!” Morwen snaps.
Dessyn turns to me in panic, holding my hand, but I pull away, anger rising.
“I won’t be merciful next time, Dessyn. She should stop calling my Love names.” I move to walk away, but Morwen’s challenge cuts through the room.
“Names? Your love? Fine. We’ll see what you call your love tonight. Invite him over for dinner, and I’ll invite Nyroth Hue, your mate, as well. Then we’ll sit together and see which one is truly worthy, the one fit for the great Goddess of War. Well, that is… if he even has the nerve to cross the threshold of this doorway.”
I stare at her, stunned. Morwen is deadly serious, every line of her face hard with determination. I frown, confusion twisting tighter in my chest. What the hell is going on?
And… what does she mean by Lycannar under the full moon being something else?
