Ch. 121..125: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 121-125
Chapter 121: The departure
Beau.
Lanis handled everything a lot better than I thought he would. I actually thought he was going to freak out. I mean, I would’ve freaked out if the case was reversed. I don’t know how he is handling all this with so much dexterity.
I had to ask him, numerous times if he understood what it all meant. The fact that he could lose the most important part of him. he said he doesn’t care, that as long as he has me, he will be fine.
Staring at him right now, I realise how lucky I am. His eyes are closed but he is not sleeping. He knows I am staring at him because there is a dreamy smile plastered on his face. I turn around slowly and see that the sun is setting.
’’How badly do you just want to stay in bed?’’ he mumbles softly.
I turn back to him and his eyes are open now, he is watching me with an intense stare, the love emanating from his eyes. I shift closer to him and pull him until his head is resting on my chest. I wish we could just sleep in, not worry about anything but there is too much to worry about.
’’I wish we could,’’ I manage.
He sighs ’’I know, it was just a random thought that I had. It would be nice to just spend the whole day with you. Without a care in the world.’’
It is almost like he read my mind. ’’How about this, after everything, we will escape. Skip town, just like a week to ourselves.’’
He exhales softly ’’Like a honeymoon?’’
I nod ’’Exactly like a honeymoon.’’
’’I am not worried about anything. I trust our relationship too much to even worry about it.’’
He is talking about what Jules said.
The fact that he isn’t worried means I have no right worrying either. I just don’t want him to have any regrets with me.
’’I love you,’’ I breathe pulling him even closer to me. I will never get tired of telling how much I love him. Just reminding him is enough, so he never forgets.
I hear a knock on my door as Bell’s scent gets closer.
’’So much for alone time,’’ I murmur frustratedly.
I move away from him and walk into my closet. I grab two pairs of shirts and shorts and throw a pair to him. at this point, there is no separation. Lanis has been wearing my clothes. Yeah, they are a little loose on him, but I love how it looks on him. once I am fully clothed, I look at him as he puts on his shirt, his hair still messy from earlier. I walk over to him and place a soft kiss on his forehead.
He closes his eyes, I can tell he wants more from the kiss but there is no time for that. I hear the knock on the door and sigh loudly ’’I am coming,’’ I yell through the door. I let go of him and walk to the door, Bell’s raises a brow as she walks into the room.
’’I heard the vamps agreed to work with us.’’
I roll my eyes ’’Oh please do come in,’’ I mutter sarcastically.
She ignores my snarky tone and faces me, waiting ’’What is the plan? How are we getting to that motherfucker?’’
I haven’t discussed anything with the pack because I don’t even know if I can trust everyone. I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I can never be too sure. I am going to keep this to myself because I don’t want to hurt Brone and Bade in the process. If Cassius finds out about this, he will kill them and I will never forgive myself.
Bell’s is one of the people I trust.
’’Where did you get that information from?’’
I ask her because I need to know how it got out. I haven’t told anyone. The only people that know about those Vampires are Eligio, Bell’s and Rex. Jules is the only other person I am going to fill in.
’’They told me,’’ she rolls her eyes almost in an accusatory tone.
’’I don’t want it to get out. I need this to be lowkey. We can’t have people hearing about it. the moment word gets out, they could be killed.’’
She nods ’’I know that I just want to know how we are going to do this. I am tired of all this shit.’’
Everyone is tired but I don’t tell her that. I can understand her pain, the uncertainty. The fact that we can’t leave peacefully. None of us has even been able to go to school. we are all afraid. No one knows when there will be an attack. We can’t continue like this. I know how she feels, I want this to end too.
’’I promise this will all be over soon,’’ I try to assure her.
I can’t say I know how soon I will end this, but I know that I will get rid of him. all the confidence I lost, somehow with Lanis, I have gotten it all back. I don’t plan on losing to Cassius.
I will win, no matter what.
******************
’’So, don’t call unless it is extremely important.’’ I warn them.
We are all in front of the gates. It is extremely late tonight. Darrien and Bell’s are on guard for tonight. The sole purpose of not creating any more talk. I snuck them out of the community. I don’t even really know how the rest of the pack would feel if they found out that I let them go.
I am not supposed to trust easily.
It is a weakness that my father had, and that same trust got him killed. I am not saying that I trust these guys but I at least know what they are going through. Bade told me about his Link, the one person he never thought he could let go of. The fact that he hasn’t seen her in over two years. I don’t even know how he is handling it.
I would do anything for Lanis.
So I can understand why he did what he did.
’’We will get in touch once we know what he is up to next,’’ Brone assures me.
I believe them, completely. They want the same things that I do. I know that much. Jules walks over to us with two tiny bottles.
’’Your mind is easily accessible to Cassius. My son created a concoction, to hide all that had happened these past couple of days.’’
I didn’t even think about that. they both look at each other, almost a little uncertain. I can understand why they wouldn’t want to collect the strange bottles from him.
They don’t trust us. they are just doing what they can to survive.
’’It is made with Calustrus plant and some other fusions. You don’t have to worry about anything. It is one hundred percent safe and natural,’’ blue informs them, almost like an assurance. They don’t have to worry about anything.
Thanks to Jules and his son. This could actually work. Things are starting to turn around for the better.
’’Okay,’’ Bade gives Brone one of the bottles and they both drink it up immediately.
I watch them, waiting to see if anything happens.
’’It is very effective. Just needs an hour to settle in,’’ Blue explains.
The fact that Cassius will not be able to read their minds is the best thing we need now.
’’Thank you for your hospitality. We promise we will not disappoint you,’’ they assure me.
I am putting my eggs in one basket by trusting them. I don’t have any leads on how to find him. except for the house he kept me. I know he plans on coming back, to finish us off. I want to be ready when he does.
’’We are off,’’ Bell’s opens the gate, and they walk out of it slowly.
’’Thank you for this,’’ I tell them.
They both nod and I watch them as they disappear in the speed of light. Closing the gates, I face Jules.
’’What time do you need me tomorrow?’’
’’You have to be up at the crack of dawn. So I need you to get all the rest you can.’’
I nod because this training is all I am looking forward too. Jules walks away from me and I face Darrien ’’How is the kid?’’ I ask him concerned.
He shrugs ’’He has been sleeping all day. I am not as worried as I was earlier because he is breathing. The scare was terrifying,’’ he confides in me.
I understand his plight. I am in the same situation right now. Our mating is uncertain. We don’t know what will happen. We are just living each day as it comes with the hopes that everything will be alright.
’’He will be fine,’’ I assure him with a gentle slap on his back.
Darrien is one of the people that I have bonded with. we are dealing with the same things, so we understand each other.
’’Thanks, man,’’ he smiles as I walk back to Lanis who grabs my hand in his.
I have to be ready for everything.
I am going to win this fight.
Chapter 122: You are my source of strength
Atieno Delano
’’You were supposed to bring him back here,’’ I glare at her.
I knew sending Lucinda for this mission was the wrong move. It was too close and personal to her but she is the only one that knows him. she is the only one that can find him.
’’I tried to talk sense into him,’’ she explains.
We have tried to talk sense into Cassius for too long. She knows this and she chose to let him go. If she was anyone other than herself, she would be punished right now.
’’That is unacceptable Lucinda. We had an agreement. Why would you go against our discussion?’’ my brother, Etore counterattacks.
Cassius has been on his rogue journey for too long. It is against our principles to kill our kind. He was a brother. We welcomed him into our home and he betrayed us and every one of our kind.
’’You failed this mission.’’
’’I apologise. I didn’t have the strength to harm him. I thought he could see reasoning. I thought I could bring him back to us.’’
Her explanation is futile.
’’We need to get him before he harms any more people,’’ Ettore speaks up, the exasperation evident in his voice. We have been too lenient on Cassius. Now is the time to let him know that he is not in control. We have to do whatever it takes. Even if it means going back on our principles.
’’We need to pay them a visit,’’ I declare.
*****************************
Beau.
’’What are your strongest suits?’’ Jules asks me calmly.
It is five in the morning, the sun is already blaring out in the sky, making the weather extremely hot. I am dressed in a pair of shorts and no shirt. this is the first day of our training. I don’t know what Jules has planned but from what I can see, he wants to teach me control.
’’I don’t know, I haven’t ever really thought about it.’’
He nods in understanding.
’’You need to understand your inner wolf. Talk to it, get to know it,’’ he informs me. I know what he is talking about, I am not detached from my wolf. I feel him in me every time I breathe. He is the dominant one in this occupancy.
The bond I have with my wolf is the only thing that has saved me through everything that has happened in my life.
’’I heard you were able to control your transformation, the time you fought with Fallon.’’
I don’t even remember that day. I was not in control of anything. Something happened within me. I don’t even know what it was but I got so angry and all I wanted was his blood. I still want his blood, I want him dead. The moment I deal with Cassius, I am not going to sleep on Fallon. I have to take him down before he becomes a threat to my family.
’’I don’t even remember that day.’’
He nods ’’Not many wolves have that ability. There is something insanely special about you. If we can get you to bring out your Lycan in that form, you will be undefeatable.’’
I don’t know what he means but I like the sound of that. Everything Jules is telling me is encouraging. I want to be strong enough to be able to take Cassius down.
’’How do we do that?’’
He moves closer to me with a smile. Jules is dressed in only shorts. I can’t help but notice how built he is. This man is over forty. The same age as my father but he has kept himself well. I really want to be like him when I get older. I have always looked up to Jules, it always felt like he wasn’t like us. he didn’t conform to the tradition. He is his own person, and he has lived a fulfilling life because of that.
I am not saying I don’t like the pack. I appreciate that I have a family. I like that I can count on most of the people in my pack, but every once in a while I wonder what it would be like to live the life I want, the kind that I don’t have to worry about anyone.
Jules is living that life.
Yes, he has a son now, but Blue doesn’t seem like he is a burden to him.
’’What do you remember before you turned that day? I want you to think about it deeply before you answer.’’
That day, the day I found out that Fallon killed my father. What do I remember? I close my eyes to get a clearer picture of the event. I remember Lanis. he was hiding something from me. I wanted to know what he was hiding. The moment he told me the truth, all I felt was anger. The kind of anger that took over me completely. It felt like there was a fire within me. I was about to explode. I didn’t turn immediately, I confronted him and he mocked me. he insulted the man he murdered in cold blood.
I thought back to his corpse, the brutal way he had been killed. The look in his cold dead eyes. The anger multiplied. I wanted to kill him. I wanted him to suffer the same fate my father did. That was all I cared about.
’’I was so angry.’’ I breathe out the answer.
That is how it happened.
The kind of anger that I couldn’t control. I blacked out after I accepted the anger. I don’t remember what I did to him, I don’t even remember hurting him. that is how I feel about Cassius. I want to hurt him. I want his dead cold eyes to be the last thing I see of him.
’’Anger is not the way. You need to find that control within you, your wolf is the only one that can bring it out of you. Find a way to bring that side of you out,’’ I open my eyes and he is watching me.
All he is saying, I don’t know how to respond.
’’Stand up,’’ he commands me.
I obey him immediately, getting on my feet. We are in the field again, this time Blue is not here. This is the training I have been desperately craving. The only way I believe I can defeat Cassius.
I dust the dirt off my short as I watch him, patiently waiting for his next command. Whatever he asks me to do, I am ready. I want to learn, I want to become stronger.
I want to be better.
’’I want you to think about your transformation. Turn right now,’’ he orders.
Transforming into my true form is the easiest thing but this time it is different. he doesn’t want me to turn fully. he is asking me to do the one thing I am not sure I can do easily. It is not something I have been able to control. I haven’t successfully done it without anger in me.
I still have the anger within me. maybe I could try.
’’Don’t overthink this,’’ just turn normally and visualise how you want to transform. I want you to do that for me,’’ his voice is comforting. I almost believe I can do it.
I just need to gather all the internal energy I can.
I close my eyes as I feel the bones in my body bend and break before I fully transform. I already know that it is a fail. I pictured it in my mind. I saw myself the way he wanted but my wolf chose to come out.
Shit.
I scold myself as I go on all four, feeling my clothes rip out of me. The fact that I failed makes me upset. So upset that I let out a loud howl from the frustration. Jules manages a smile.
’’I didn’t expect this to work the first time. I don’t want you to depend on your anger as your source of strength. You have to find another source. Close your eyes, think about the one thing that you can always count on,’’ he tells me, even though I am still in my wolf form.
You know what that is.
I hear my wolf in my head. he is telling me what I have already figured out. Think of a new source of strength and then channel all your energy on that. the one thing I can count on.
You know the answer.
My wolf growls clouding my head with the excitement that he feels. After the ritual, I have been communicating more with it. there is like a closer bond, not just with Lanis but with my wolf.
I know what it is talking about.
It doesn’t have to spell it out.
The only thing I can count on.
My source of strength is Lanis.
Jules hears my thoughts and I realise that I sent him a mind link.
’’Think about him when you try again. I want you to turn back and then try and transform again. This time, thinking about him. Channel all your energy with only thoughts of him.’’
I open my eyes and there is a smile on his face.
I think about Lanis all the time.
This should be easy.
Chapter 123: The surprise visit.
Alanis.
I decided to pay father a visit.
He was not upset with me. The last time I saw him, all I felt was disappointment and anguish. It almost feels like he is upset with himself. He is the one that made me who I am today.
He turned me into the person I have become. Not just by saving my life. the day he gave me a second chance, he promised to always be there for me. I was just a kid, seventeen years old. I thought my life was over, I was prepared to die but he saw more in me and he gave me a second chance. I lived the rest of my life looking up to him. He taught me to be kind, we were not like the rest of the vampires. We lived a vegetarian lifestyle. With the intention of not harming humans. I am grateful to him because he made me who I am today and now I feel like he is angry with himself, somehow feeling guilty for everything I have been dealt with.
Even though I don’t feel like this is a punishment, he thinks it is. The day he gave me his blessings, I knew he didn’t want to. Deep down, he hasn’t accepted Beau. I chose to do the mating ritual without getting him to come around to it because there was no time. I really wish I eventually end up convincing him that this isn’t a mistake.
I don’t know what I am hoping for going to the house today. I just want him to see me after because I know he is worried. Belis called Eligio. Father has been beside himself and he doesn’t even know about Darrien. Darrien is being stubborn. He didn’t get approval, I wouldn’t even call it approval because Cranwell is supportive even thought he doesn’t agree. I don’t even think he knows about Darrien and Jabi. To him, I am the only flawed one amongst all his children.
’’Are you sure you are ready to face him today?’’ El asks me.
I know he is just worried. Maybe it is too soon. I mean, with the whole talk of different scents in me, I feel like he will be able to tell if everything Blue said is accurate. Maybe I want him to notice and then he can explain this to me.
’’I need to let him know that I am okay.’’
El nods ’’I kinda already told Belis. Father is still worried but at least his mind is at rest now.’’
I nod as we walk out of the house together. These past couple of days has been exhausting. We haven’t really been getting any rest. Every one of us has to keep our eyes and ears open. Cassius is cunning and we cant have another ambush situation.
I don’t want Beau to have to lose any of his family again.
I don’t know if he will be able to handle it.
Cassius just keeps taking and taking and the more he takes, the more hurt my baby is. I am tired of wiping tears from his face. I only want to see his smile. So if I have to wear myself out all night and stand guard, to stop him from crying, then I will do that for the rest of my life.
’’Do you want me to come with?’’ he suggests as we get closer to the gates.
Beau started his training this morning. He was pretty excited and I am excited for him. this will be the boost that he needs. I want his confidence levels to rise up just like when I first met him. a lot has happened and he hasn’t handled all those things so well. All the deaths and lost fights have crushed him and if Jules can bring that zeal back. I will be eternally grateful.
’’Will you be able to leave Elu here?’’ I ask him, knowing full well that he doesn’t feel safe leaving his girlfriend here.
He shrugs ’’She’ll come with,’’ he responds.
’’But we need you guys here. I don’t want to leave the community blind. You are the only eyes and ears I have here. Do you need anything from home? I can bring it for you.’’
I discourage him because all the times the pack has been attacked. They were unguarded. I trust Darrien and Eligio to protect everyone else. I will feel better if they are here.
’’sure, maybe a couple of clean clothes from my closet. I don’t think Elu needs anything. She brought a massive suitcase with her.’’
We stop in front of the gates and Olin smiles at us. Olin is one of the older wolves. Beau mentioned that he was a friend to his father. They had been friends since they were young. Now he is the only one of the three of them that is still here. I don’t know how he is feeling, the sense that he couldn’t protect his people, he couldn’t save his friend. it must be eating him up but you wouldn’t even be able to tell with the smile on his face.
’’Heading out?’’ he asks, opening the gates for us.
’’Yeah, have some errands to run,’’ I explain.
He smiles faintly as he closes the door on us. we are trying our best to create fewer opportunities for an ambush.
’’Let me know how much of a freak out he has,’’ El tells me.
I nod because I know he is going to have a silent freak out. Cranwell is not very expressive but the moment he reaches his limit. He can’t help but express himself.
I hope today won’t be his limit.
I plan to run home. That is the fastest way to get to where I want to go. I don’t want to have to deal with the baggage of a car. I get to the house in less than ten minutes and there is a car in the driveway. I am still outside at the driveway. There are different scents coming from inside the house. They are all unrecognisable to me but also familiar.
They are vampires.
I don’t know if I want to walk into whatever situation is going inside right now. I planned to come and see father. Talk to him about all that is happening but if he has guests, do I really want to intrude on them?
It’s the fear of facing right now that is pulling me away. The front door opens and Belis walks out before I can escape. I have half a mind to go back to the community without seeing him. I can just come back later.
’’Are you going to stand outside for the rest of the day?’’
His voice is cold. Lately, Belis has been a lot colder with me. it is not like we ever had a relationship like that. Belis is the oldest. He is the most stuck up amongst all of us. unlike Eligio, he doesn’t feel the need to involve himself in all my issues. He has this mind your business and act as a family attitude.
All through everything that has happened to me, he has never once talked to me about it. he has never even tried to be there for me. hell, I am not blaming him, it is mutual. I stay out of his life and he does the same. That way, there are not problems that can arise.
’’It seems like father has guests.’’ I retort.
He laughs ’’Oh no, they are not father’s guest. They are yours.’’ He answers, not expatiating any further.
I furrow my brows in confusion. They cant be my guest. How did they even know I was coming.
’’Who are they?’’ I ask panicking.
I don’t know if I can handle any more surprises. With everything that has happened, I just want to avoid anything that might shock me.
’’You should come inside and find out,’’ with those words, he walks back inside the house, leaving me standing there with shaking hands.
I can’t leave because Belis has seen me but I also don’t want to know who these guests are. Somehow, I have an idea. There are only one possible group of people that will want to see me and I don’t think I want to see them right now.
Shit.
I decide to go into the house, their voices suddenly become clearer. A man is talking. His voice is very soothing. Like the wind on a cold autumn night. his words feel like a trance that draws me deeper into the room.
’’I see, so the ritual was done?’’ the voice mutters suddenly becoming stiff.
I stop in front of the living room, unsure of how to react to their conversation. ’’I thought we agreed on a meeting. This was not supposed to happen without our blessing,’’ that same man announces.
I know they are talking about me and the fact that they mentioned the ritual, just lets me know that my assumptions were right.
The fore ones are here and they don’t sound too pleased.
Chapter 124: I am free
Beau.
How many times do I have to bend and break before I finally fall? I can’t count how many times I have turned. My bones feel weak, my wolf is exhausted. I thought this would be easy. I had it all figured out in my head.
This is not supposed to be hard but it is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. Jules wants this done a certain way. He doesn’t want me to turn fully, he doesn’t want me to be more human than wolf, he wants it half of each. I know what he is asking for, I can see it in my head. I am trying to give him what he wants but every time I think I have mastered it, I end up the way I usually am.
Just an animal on all four.
’’You are getting sidetracked. I need your mind with me right now,’’ he yells already getting impatient.
His tone is different. I don’t even think he expects this to be a success on the first try. Maybe this is his way of teaching me. he can’t be too lenient. I mean how will I learn If he is.
’’I am trying,’’ I scream back at him.
Right now, I am in my human form completely naked. There is no time to even bother with clothes. The number of times I have turned is fucking exhausting.
’’You are getting angry again. If you do this in anger, it defeats the purpose,’’ he reminds me of our earlier lesson.
I cannot be angry.
I have to channel all that anger into happy thoughts. That is the only way this will work for us. I have been thinking about Lanis. he is the only reason why I have even been able to handle this for as long as I have. We have been going at it all day. The sun is already in the middle of roaming around to set. I don’t know what time it is but it seems like the day is already. I have spent all day facing the most excruciating pain ever.
The curse of the werewolf.
’’I don’t know what to do, nothing is working. No matter how hard I try, it just ends the same,’’ I groan exasperatedly.
He manages an encouraging smile. I am sure this is as frustrating for him as it is for me. he has been standing all day, under the hot sun and he still managed to control his patience. I need to give him a break.
’’Sit down,’’ he tells me, and I watch him as he sits cross-legged in front of me.
I obey him and do the same. Totally ignoring the grass that sticks to my skin. I am used to being naked but sitting on this dirty grass is the most disgusting thing I have ever done. I can’t complain because that will look ridiculous.
’’We are going to meditate. I want you to calm down your nerves. Do not fight whatever happens,’’ he informs me.
I nod and watch him as he closes his eyes. ’’Close your eyes. I know you don’t fancy this but I need you to indulge me.’’
I close my eyes.
The last time I meditated with him, I saw my father. I don’t know what he intends to do right now but I trust him completely and if that can help me then I will do this with open arms.
’’Inhale, I want you to take a deep breath and hold it in,’’ he urges.
I oblige.
Holding my breath.
Every sense within me heightens.
The sound of the wind as it breezes through.
’’Exhale, let all the pent up frustration out. All the anger, the disappointment. The loss you feel. Let is all out and set it free.’’
His words are comforting. I mean, everything that has happened is overwhelming and it hasn’t been easy to get through it all. There are thoughts that roam through my mind. I wonder what I could’ve done differently.
What if I didn’t fight with my dad that day, would he still be alive?
What if I didn’t go and try to be the hero for Lanis? if I had convinced him to stay with me and forget about Maddie. Would things have turned out differently?
What if I didn’t pressure Lanis to mate with me?
Those thoughts still overshadow my mind. I don’t know how to handle it all. I think about ti and all I feel is regret. The anger that I try to bury deep in me always finds its way out.
’’Set it all free Beau. You will never win this with all the anger within you,’’ Jules breathes out. Those words feel like a cool breeze that travels into my ear. I feel it deep within as it hits a spot in my heart.
Set it free.
It sounds easier than it is.
’’Set it all free,’’ he repeats, this time sterner.
I inhale again, taking his words deeper into my soul. Suddenly it feels like I am being taken into another world. Like the last time. I can still feel Jules, but I don’t see him again. I am surrounded by darkness. I can’t see anything.
I feel like I am on my feet, wherever I am feels very lonely. I try to open my eyes more, to see if I can recognise this dark room but to no avail.
’’Exhale,’’ I hear Jules through the darkness.
He is here but he is also far away. Suddenly through his words, I see a light. It is very faint. I walk closer to the light, the darkness is trying to overshadow the light. I reach for the light, try to get closer to it but the closer I get, the farther t seems.
I don’t know what to do.
’’Let it all go Beau. The past is not important. All the pain, all the anger. Let them all go. Live for the present.’’
I hear Jules again. It feels like his voice is the guide I need to get to the light. I want to reach this light so badly. Even a lot more than I want to succeed in my transformation.
’’I don’t know how to,’’ I shout in hopes that he can hear me.
The room remains quiet. His voice seems to have vanished. am I supposed to figure this out on my own. How do I let go of all the anger? I am still fucking pissed. I want to kill all the people that hurt me and my family. That is the reason for the training. The only thing that keeps me going. The only reason why I am still alive.
’’You are still alive for me,’’ I hear Lanis’s voice. I know this is all in my head, but it feels so real.
I know the voice is not wrong but I can’t live for him until I can protect him. I can’t live knowing that he could be taken away from me at any second.
’’You can’t live for vengeance either,’’ I hear his voice again. Pulling me into his orbit.
’’What do I do?’’ I aks him unsure if he will be able to answer me since this is all in my head.
’’Follow the light,’’ his voice comes into play, mesmerizing to me.
I turn around again, facing the light. I squint my eyes, trying to understand what I am looking for. follow the light. How do I follow the light when it keeps running away from me.
Let it all go.
Those words keep seeping through my head.
This is not my fault.
I am not the reason why my father is dead.
I am not the reason why members of my pack are dead.
I didn’t pressurise Lanis to mate with me, he did this because he loves me. he wanted it as much as I did.
The light suddenly becomes brighter at my revelation and I see a cage. The cage is dark but the light shines through it. I walk closer to the cage to get a closer look. I recognize the creature inside the cage.
My wolf.
It looks up to me, there is a sad expression plastered to its face. all the pain and anger, showing in its form. The brown of its fur, dull in the darkness of the cage. I feel its pain, I feel everything it is feeling I want to help. I need to get it out of this cage.
This is how I have felt.
I have been trapped in a cage that I put myself in.
Now I need to set myself free.
I grab the lock of the gate. It doesn’t even have a chain or padlock. With one swift cling, the gate slides open. My wolf stands up from the crouched position it was on and struts over to me slowly. Its limbs shake and shudder weakly as it tries to get to me.
I reach for it, wanting to show all the comfort and love I have been keeping away from it.
’’You’re free,’’ I pet its head gently.
I am free.
Chapter 125: The Alliance.
Alanis.
I go into the living room and fathers’ eyes fix on me. I know what he is thinking. There is curiosity in his stare. The ritual is complete, he is trying to see if there is anything different in me.
I don’t know if he can sense it. the thing that Beau told me. the scents within me. I can’t tell, so I doubt he would be able to. My eyes shift away from him and to the other people in the room. They are all strangers, people I have never met in my life, but I know who they are instantly.
The Eli’s.
Why are they in our house?
This has to be because of me. there is no other logical explanation for their visit. I examine them one by one. they are three. Two guys and a girl. The first guy has the darkest shade of black curly hair. His complexion is like dark chocolate, rich and a work of art. The kind that is blinding but in a beautiful way. His eyes are blue, sharp, and bright. There is a warm smile on his face. this man doesn’t look a day over twenty. There is no sign of ageing on his features, but you can already tell that he has lived a very long life.
There is something mesmerizing about him. a pull that he is probably used to. I force my eyes away from him to the other man. this one is the complete opposite of the other one. his hair is bright silver, long over his shoulders. His complexion is as white as snow. His eyes are a deep brown colour. Very contradicting to the rest of his features but somehow it goes so well. There is a blank expression on his face. almost like he wants to get this gathering over with. Whatever this is, I don’t want to be involved but I also know that I have no choice. why did I choose to come home today? I could’ve picked a day when they weren’t here.
Suddenly all I feel is regret.
The last girl in their group coughs loud enough in a way to tell me to take a sit. ’’Alanis Dravon,’’ the dark-skinned vampire calls my name. I walk deeper into the room and take the empty seat next to the couch.
’’I would have said hello but I don’t know who you are,’’ I manage to be a little snarky.
Father glares at me, I take that as a warning. No one is ever rude to the Eli’s. they are the oldest vampires to ever exist and the fact that they are here, in our house means I should give them the respect they deserve. I would be lying if I said I didn’t know them. Ettore, Lucinda and Atieno are people you hear in stories. You never have the opportunity of meeting them, but here I am in the same room with them, having a meeting that I don’t even want to have in the first place.
’’Sorry about that, would introductions be too much to ask for?’’ I stand up from the couch and walk to the front of them. They all stand up at the same time, the dark-skinned one still smiling warmly. He is the most accommodating of the pair and somehow, I feel like I would like him.
’’Ettore,’’ the blond one starts the introduction with his hand outstretched. I take his hand in mine, not needing to give him my name since he already knows. I take it that the other one, the one I know I will like is Atieno, and the girl is Lucinda.
We end the introductions and I go back to my side on the other side of the living room.
’’We can tell that you completed the Bond between your link,’’’ Atieno speaks up.
I already knew that they could tell. I am not hiding this. father wanted me to wait until they showed up, but I chose to do this without their permission, and I don’t regret it. now I just have to see how they will react to this.
’’Yes I did,’’ my answer is honest and straight to the point.
’’We didn’t give the go-ahead. You know that is against the rules,’’ Ettore blurts out, the anger evident in his voice.
I nod because they are right. What I did was against the rules but this does not just involve vampires. My mate is a Werewolf. They don’t follow the rules of the vampires.
’’There was no time. They are being attacked. My link is the Alpha of his pack. He needed to complete the ritual.’’
They have to know about Cassius. Every vampire knows about him. the fact that they haven’t done anything makes me think we are on our own. They will all keep silent as the psycho kills every last Wolf on this earth. I will not let that happen, so if I have to go against the rules to make that a possibility then that is what I will do.
’’It seems to me like everything went smoothly,’’ Atieno comments.
I nod even though Beau seems to think something went wrong. I don’t think that is the case, so I don’t agree with him.
’’Yes, it did. If you don’t mind me asking, why are you here?’’
Father glares at me again. Almost like he doesn’t want me to ask any questions. The fact that I am not afraid of them must be shocking to him. these are people that harness all the powers of vampires. They have all the abilities. They are indestructible.
I should be shaking in their presence, but I am indifferent to it all. I don’t have any feelings involving them.
’’That is a good question, we need you to know that right now, our biggest concern is not your mating with the wolf.’’
Okay, that is a good thing. I don’t want to have to deal with them not being okay with what is already done. I am already one with Beau. There is no reason why that should be a problem.
’’Cassius?’’ I ask them even though I already know the answer.
’’You are aware of all the problems he is causing for both kinds. We have kept quiet for too long. This is the time to take action to all his miscreant acts.’’
I don’t know why they feel the need to be here talking to us. they are the strongest of our kind. Why do they need us? I am pretty sure they can handle this all on their own.
’’Cassius is a threat to the people that are most important to me,’’ I am letting it be known that I am on the wolves’ side. I will only be Loyal to Beau and no one else. So, whatever they say right now will be detrimental to what favours my link.
’’We know, we plan on controlling the situation. He is not a very easy person to get a hold of. We need your help.’’
I furrow my brows because I still don’t understand why they are here. What do they want from us? do they think we can help them in any way?
’’What does this have to do with me?’’ I ask.
They all look at each other almost like this is something difficult to ask. Everything is confusing to me and I need them to explain this to me.
’’We need you to set up a meeting with the Alpha of the pack. The pack is Cassius’s recent target.’’
Oh, soo they don’t need anything from me. Beau is their major concern. I don’t know what they want to talk about with him but it seems to me that an alliance is about to take place. This is something I will be very proud of. The two kinds coming together for a cause. I want this unity between our kinds to take full force and if I can be a contributor to this, I will gladly do it.
I manage a smile because I am trying to act calm but these guys are interested in meeting the love of my life. they think he is the only one that can help them. Okay, maybe the wolves need all the help they can get right now. I know they are the targets but you need to understand the Eli’s. they do not get involved unless they need to and now they are doing that. they are getting involved. Maybe it is because of this mating union. The two kinds have come together, even though people might still not understand and accept it.
Vampires and werewolves are no longer enemies.
There is hope for a brighter future.
At least once we are able to eliminate Cassius and all the people on his side. I can’t wait for the future. I can’t wait for the time where all this will be normal.
’’I can do that. When do you want to meet him?’’
