Ch. 141..145: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 141-145

Chapter 141: The quiet wolf.

Darrien.

’’You need to control this,’’ I tell him.

His eyes look at everything in the room except my face. There is no point waiting for Blue’s diagnosis. I already know what is happening to him. things are not the safest right now, but I had half a mind to go hunting with him. his wolf seems to be very quiet.

I guess that is how it has always been, but I want to wake it up. It needs to feel welcome, wanted. Right now Jabi has been told that he is worthless, it has made his inner self silent. The only time I ever felt his wolf was during the ritual and when I went hunting with him.

I have accepted the fact that this could be a permanent situation. Him being a vampire—or a hybrid if you want to call it that. I just can’t have him getting hungry and attacking people. I need him to find a way to control this. That is the only way I will feel comfortable leaving him alone for even an hour.

’’I don’t even know when it happens,’’ he informs me, I knew that already. When he turned he saw the blood. I am sure he sensed it just like I did. I felt the hunger but unlike him, I am able to control my hunger. He reacted first, all he wanted was the blood and if I had resisted to give him, I know he would’ve attacked.

That is just how it is with bloodthirst. All rational thinking is wiped out the window. All he would know at that time is that he wants blood and he would do whatever it takes to get it.

’’I know. How is your wolf doing right now?’’ I ask him.

He shrugs ’’I don’t know... he’s fine. I guess.’’

He doesn’t sound too sure. Okay, that is something. The fact that he is uncertain. He should be able to feel it, no matter what.

’’Do you feel it?’’

He shakes his head ’’Not as much as I used to.’’

I kinda sensed that was the case but I was very hopeful. ’’He’s still inside me, but very quiet. Like no matter how much I try to get its attention. He just won’t answer me,’’ he adds.

This should mean something but I don’t know what it means. ’’Things are going to get crazy here. I can already feel the start of a war. I need to be sure that you will be okay when I am not with you.’’

He looks away from me but I pull him back till he is looking at me. He is just as worried as I am but I know he is trying to be strong for the both of us. he is allowed to show weakness but I take him either way.

’’I don’t know how to make things better. How can I assure you that I will be okay when I can’t control this new hunger inside me?’’

’’You will get the hang of it. I know that. it’s just that the timing of it all sucks. There is so much going on right now, I don’t know how to juggle it all up.’’

This is me being honest with him. Jabi is the only one that I can be honest with, he is the only one I want to be honest with ’’what do we do?’’ he asks, sincerely wanting to do something.

’’We need to find a way for you to balance both sides of you. Your wolf needs to take charge again. It is the most dominant part of you.’’

Before all else, Jabi is a werewolf. the vampire in him is secondary. That is the only thing I am sure about. When I take a whiff of his scent, It is still the same. He is still the same Jabi.

’’How do we do that?’’ he has a lot of questions tonight. I don’t have all the answers to his questions.

’’When last did you turn?’’ I ask him.

He closes his eyes, thinking hard about it. he has been with me all this while. I don’t think I have really given Jabi ant breathing space. It is not like he is complaining but it makes me realise that he probably hasn’t turned since he went hunting with me.

’’It’s been a while huh?’’

He nods.

’’Do you want to go hunting right now?’’ I ask because like I always say, he is my number one priority. He is the only one that matters. I will risk it all to make him feel better.

’’We can’t. Beau said we aren’t allowed to leave the compound.’’

Yeah Beau said that, but I am here with him and I will not let anyone harm him. he has a point, but I just want to figure things out.

’’How about just turning. Ignite the fire within you. Wake up your wolf. We can do that in the field.’’ I suggest because Jabi will not disobey Beau. He respects that guy too much, even though I don’t know why.

’’Can that work? It is pretty late.’’

I know. It’s late. A lot has happened tonight. In just a couple of hours, he has attacked someone, drank a lot of blood and now we think he may be a hybrid. Okay, at this point I am more certain that he is.

tomorrow is another day, but I have to assure Beau that he will be alright, and he won’t attack anyone. If they think he is a risk to the community, they might banish him. I can’t have him feeling deserted. He needs to always be accepted wherever he goes.

’’Okay, we can do that.’’

A smile forms on my face and I stand up from the bed. He watches me with a confused look on his face. I stretch my hands out to him and he looks at it for a second. Then slowly, a faint smile forms on his face as he reaches for me. I pull him off the bed and his arms wrap around my waist gently; it feels so comforting in this tough time.

’’I love you,’’ he whispers softly, I hear him loud and clear.

’’I love you too, so very much.’’ With that assurance, he lets go of me and grabs a pair of shorts from the couch. These are the same ones he has been wearing since we came here. Something else I also noticed. Jabi needs new clothes. I plan on taking care of him, getting him everything he needs.

Like clothes for starters.

We get to the field and I sit on the grass. He jumps till he falls in between my legs. I pull him closer to me as he rests his head on my chest. He looks up at me, there is a bright smile on his face.

’’The sky looks beautiful today.’’

I take my eyes away from him and to the night sky. The stars are out tonight. He is right—it is indeed beautiful. Not as beautiful as my link. ’’You are more beautiful,’’ I interject and this makes him blush crimson.

’’Stop,’’ he hits my chest playfully and then hides his face with his hands.

’’don’t you just get tired of everything?’’ he asks slowly uncovering his face. there is a serious expression on his face.

’’It can be exhausting. Like when I woke up and you weren’t next to me. that almost drove me insane.’’

I don’t know why I decided to bring that up but thinking about it still tugs at my heart. I almost lost my mind.

’’I am sorry.’’ He says immediately and I feel bad for even bringing it up. I didn’t say it with the intention of making him feel bad. I just wanted him to know how important he is to me.

’’You don’t have to apologise. Don’t do that to me again. Please.’’ I beg him with so much desperation etched in my voice.

He reaches for my face and caresses the right side of it gently. I close my eyes, as I try to make this moment longer. This wasn’t the purpose of coming out here, but somehow it makes me feel better. Being inside that cabin is choking. I feel free outside, almost like we can do anything.

’’Come on, get up,’’ I pull him up again ’’Let’s do what we came out here to do,’’ I add.

He nods and I watch him as he slowly takes off his shorts. The first time he did this, I had to look away, he was shy and at that moment, it didn’t feel right but now, the way he is moving in front of me, in this teasing/seductive manner makes me feel so wanted. Loved by him.

’’Like the last time. No pressure.’’ I tell him because whatever happens. I will still love him. if he cant transform, that could mean something that I don’t even want to think about.

I don’t want him to lose himself completely.

He needs to be Jabi, the man I love.

Chapter 142: You will always be my wolfie.

Jabi.

Just like last time.

He told me.

It doesn’t feel like last time. When I turned in front of Dar and we went hunting, I was weak. I felt like I was deteriorating. Dying slowly. Now I feel incredibly strong. I have never felt this way before. In all my life. Something has changed. Not just the hunger for blood. My body seems to be running on a kind of fuel that I didn’t know I had.

I don’t want to say anything to Dar because I don’t want him to worry. I can already feel a shift in our relationship. He used to treat me like I was fragile, he wanted to take care of me but now It feels like he is treating me like I am dangerous. I don’t blame him, I hurt someone. Marcella. I know her. So hearing that I caused harm to her is distressing to me. This strength inside me comes from whatever is going on. It is selfish of me to be a little bit happy with the way I feel. The pain of not being able to do anything. Dying slowly with no cure still haunts me and now this feels like a second chance to me. I always knew that being with Darrien would give me a second chance. A new beginning. A happy life.

He seems to think that I will be banished. At this point, I don’t actually care. As long as he is in my life. I will never feel deserted. Beau is the only one in this pack that actually cares about me. He will not banish me. I know that much. He tries and I appreciate him for it but the minute I realize that I am a danger to everyone here, I will leave on my own. I won’t live my life as a threat.

I don’t want that to be my new normal.

’’Come on babe,’’ he urges with a warm smile on his face.

I am naked in front of him and not even a bit shy. Our relationship has gone further than this. I love everything that he brings out of me. I love this man so much.

I close my eyes. Turning is the most painful experience for me. I usually am unable to handle it most times but somehow, this time seems different. As I feel my bones bend and the skin tear open. It doesn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. My eyes stay fixed to Dar, he is smiling at me warmly. The patience he has for me is remarkable. I know how he is with everyone else, so it just makes it all the more special. He treats me different. The things he can tolerate or accept from me, he wouldn’t with others.

’’That’s it,’’ he encourages me luminously.

For the first time since the ritual, I feel my wolf. This is all on him, the eagerness to come out. He is finally awake.

I close my eyes as I round off on the transformation, slowly going on all four. The moment I feel my fur spring out, I get even more excited. This seems like the best of both worlds. I am still me. I am still a wolf but I also have this power looming inside me. I can feel it. Even without Blue, I know something is different inside me. There is curiosity trying to crawl out. I want to know how far I can go. Once I am fully turned, Darrien moves closer to me, his smile wide.

I know he has been worried. He didn’t want this change to happen, that is why I couldn’t tell him how happy this is making me feel. No one understood how weak I felt, all my life. I would watch others, knowing I was different. Even Rex being an omega is different from me. I was always different and now I feel like I will finally belong to this world.

’’You’re doing it,’’ he mutters excitedly. Patting my fur in the process. I close my eyes to his touch. My wolf already getting excited. ’’Nothing has to change. You’re going to be alright.’’ It seems like he is trying to comfort himself. Somehow his assurance is not for me.

’’How do you feel?’’ he asks.

I send him a mind link because that is the only way I can communicate with him.

I feel alive.

That is the truth. I have never felt more alive than I do at this moment right now.

"Can you wait here for a second?’’ he asks even though he knows I will do whatever he wants me too. ’’I want to try something.’’

I nod and he plants a soft kiss on my fur. Suddenly he speeds away from me like the flash of light. I sit down on the grass as I wait patiently for him. It takes him less than a minute to get back. He is holding unto a black nylon bag. My nose tingles as the smell gets into it. I know what it is without him showing me.

Meat.

’’You want it?’’ he asks with that teasing smile on my face, almost like he knows that I want it. My wolf reacts immediately, my legs move forward until I am in front of him. I didn’t think I would want raw meat again. Being the way I am now, it didn’t seem like it would ever be craving but there is a hunger that has always been there.

This part of me that he fell in love with still exists. I feel my tail move back and forth as he waves the bag in the air. Now he is teasing me, there is this happiness radiating out of me which only makes me all the more excited.

I move even closer to him, my face now so close to his. Gently I bring out my tongue and splatter it all over his face, kissing him. He starts to laugh and then he drops the bag on the grass and wraps his arms around my neck.

’’I love you so much,’’ he whispers into my ear at the same time letting go of me. I reach for the bag and push it open with my nose. The smell becomes stronger, more inviting as I take a bite off the leg of the deer. Never have I ever had the opportunity of eating the whole leg of a deer. I always got the leftovers. Now Darrien is providing for me in ways that I never thought I would ever get. I eat the meat quickly, with his eyes still fixed on me.

Once I am done I look up at him and he is still smiling at me ’’You are going to be just fine,’’ he assures me again with that soothing voice that I have come to get used to. This man has a way of making me feel better with just his words. I am just glad that with this, he doesn’t have to worry about me as much as he has been.

I might now be involved with the things happening in the pack but I know there is a lot going on. The man everyone keeps talking about—Cassius. I heard he wants to kill us all. I know he will not succeed. Beau is the best Alpha this pack has ever had. I am not trying to condemn his dad right now but there is something in him that always made me believe in him. He is kind... very kind. He genuinely cares about the people of this pack and unlike all the others, he is diplomatic. He doesn’t believe in a dictatorship. His dad was always in the opinion that whatever he said was final. No arguments required.

I know he will protect the pack.

"Do you want to try running around? I want to see how fast you can go.’’

He is curious just like I am. He wants to know if this new territory we are in brings new abilities. I have never been fast. I know the time we went hunting together, he slowed his pace for me. Does that mean this new strength could bring speed? I am already excited before I start running in circles around the field. I feel lighter in my legs. It is not as straining as before. Everything feels better. I don’t know how long I run for but I feel his presence as he watches me.

My heart melts against my chest, knowing that through thick or thin, rain or sunshine. Darrien will always be there, with that smile on his face. I have someone that will always hold unto me, through my pain and happiness. The minute I stop running, he stands up from the grass and stops in front of me.

’’Wow, that was fast,’’ he exclaims. ’’You wanna turn back?’’ he adds in question.

I shake my head, my wolf is not ready to go back to the shadows. The least I can do Is give him some time out under the moon.

’’Okay, Let’s stay like this for a while.’’

He sits back on the grass and I join him, still panting heavily from the solo race I just did. I rest my head on his legs and he starts to pat the top of my head gently.

’’You will always be my wolfie,’’ he mutters.

You will always be mine.

Chapter 143: Walker Fields

Walker Fields.

Green springs Pack.

’’I hear Cassius is getting close to eliminating the moonlight pack?’’ I ask Levi, my right-hand man and best friend. he manages a nod, but I know this is a very touching topic. Once he finishes with their community, he will be coming on to ours. There is this fear in me that we will not be able to stop him. Rumour has it that he has successfully eliminated over fifty percent of the wolves. The closer he gets to a hundred, the closer our kind will be wiped off the earth.

I am not scared of Cassius. I have never been but I need to do something. Him being this close to our community is a threat to us all. I don’t want him to get to us. I need to help the moonlight pack—especially after hearing that Rick Foxly is dead. Beau’s father was a comrade, and his death has affected a lot of us.

’’Gather the troops, we need to pay the moonlight pack a visit.’’

************

Beau.

Waiting is the worst thing ever.

Especially when you know where to find the person you are waiting for. Cassius is so close but I can’t go to him.

’’This is not the time to daydream,’’ Jules yells at me already getting frustrated with me. I have been awake all night. Didn’t get an ounce of sleep. Listening to Lanis and waiting till Cassius comes, means I have to train until he does.

’’I am sorry Uncle Jules, I am just in my head a lot,’’ I confess. The whole thing with Cassius is getting to me. the fact that I keep seeing him in my head means I don’t even have an escape. Like he is reminding me that he will be in my life until I am dead. I can’t even stay in my head without seeing him.

’’You have to stop thinking about him. this is the end. I see it getting closer and one little slip up will make you dead.’’

Jules is right. I don’t know what is wrong with me. the fact that I have all the information, makes me have an advantage. In the early hours of the morning, Cassius got back to his home. There was a total of thirty vampires gathered at his house. They all looked ready to kill. Bade called us this morning, he is of great help but everything he told me, I already knew. Seeing Cassius means I can hear his thoughts. I know how he is feeling. I know he is scared. He might act like he is ready to die for this cause but the fear spills out of him. I see the real him now that this connection between us has been formed. Eligio said it is because of all the memories he shared with me. through all that, we got connected.

Something has been bothering me. Is there a possibility that he can see me too? If I am connected to him; does that mean he is connected to me too?

’’Your mind is not here. We should take a break.’’ Jules sighs loudly, probably getting frustrated.

’’I am fine. I am sorry.’’

I apologise because I need all the help I can. Today’s lesson is on battle combat. The closer we get to this final battle, the faster we have to juggle all the training. I know it will never be enough, but I know with all Jules has thought me and what I knew before, I can take out Cassius. Cassius is more of a strategy than strength. I will combine both to eliminate him.

’’Fine, you have to get your head back into this.

During the training, Bell’s interrupts us by walking towards us in the field. There is a strange expression plastered on her face. ’’Hey, sorry for bothering you guys,’’ she waves her hands in the air. She is dressed in a pair of jean shorts and a white tank top. Her hair is up in a bun and she has sneakers on. Bells is the one that found out that Maddie died. I still don’t know how Lanis feels about it but he told me he isn’t bothered by it. no matter what he says, I know it must hurt. At some point in his life, he loved her. Even though she wasn’t his Link, he still cared a lot about her and I am sure it is the betrayal that is making him indifferent about her death but I still feel a little bad for her. I knew that Cassius would kill her. That is just the kind of person he is. He uses people and then dumps them to the gutters. He didn’t have any use for her anymore, so he decided to kill her.

’’What is it?’’ Jules asks her immediately. He is so into this, I guess he is just the kind of person that likes to win.

’’There’s someone here to see you,’’ she directs at me, which just confuses me.

’’Who.’’

She smiles a bright smile, suddenly I figure out the weird expression on her face is joy. Something is making her happy. Whatever it is must be good. I would gladly take some good news right about now. In two days, Cassius will be here. When he comes, we will be ready for him. no matter what.

’’I think you need to see this for yourself,’’ the smile is still on her face.

I look to Jules and he nods, giving me the approval to leave. ’’You can take a break for a couple of hours, eat, have a rest and then I want you back here,’’ he orders.

’’Thanks.’’

I walk away from the field with Bells and she skips excitedly ’’They are by the gates. They were too many to just let in. needed your approval first even though I know there is no way you would send them back.’’

She is being mysterious. I don’t know if I have the time and energy for her guess games right now. I have barely had any sleep and I am fucking exhausted.

’’Seriously what is it?’’ I ask her.

She stops walking, we are so closer to the gates already. I know Lanis is on guard duty today and there is also a meeting with the Elis. Could it be them? I finally agreed to see them even though I don’t think they will be of any help to us. Lanis mentioned that they don’t kill. I mean why the fuck would they be so strong and unable to kill. Cassius needs to die, if they are coming to tell me not to kill him, then they have another thing coming. I plan on ripping his head from his body.

’’You have to see it for yourself. It is just too incredible to explain. Come on,’’ she grabs me by my arm and pulls me faster to the gates. When I get there. I see Lanis first. I mean, I only have eyes for him but the gates are open and he seems to be talking to a man. I can’t really get a good look from where I am standing.

’’He’s here,’’ Bells interrupts them.

Lanis turns around and there is a smile on his face. I return the smile and direct my attention to the man. I know this man; it just isn’t ringing a bell right now.

Where have I seen him before?

I take slow strides towards him until I am in front of him. there is a smile on his face. he is a middle-aged man almost about my fathers’ age. His hair is short and spiky, with grey strands all over that look like highlights. His eyes are a bright hazel. He looks to be over six feet, almost matching up to my height. Shit, how come I can’t remember him?

’’Beau Foxly, oh how you have grown so much,’’ he says with the deepest voice I have ever heard as he walks closer to me. he stops in front of me and stretches his hand to me. his scent is strong. He is a werewolf.

This man is important, but I can’t remember his face.

’’I am so sorry about Rick. He was a great man,’’ he offers his condolences. So he knew my dad.

His name is Walker Fields.

Lanis sends me a mind link, reading my mind immediately. I send him a thank you because it would have been terrible if I had to ask him to introduce himself. I cannot believe that walker fields are here. In my packhouse. This man is known for his immense strength. What is he doing here?

’’It is a pleasure to meet you,’’ I take his hand in mine for a handshake. He smiles warmly satisfied.

’’We met once. You were just a kid then, surprised you can even remember me. your father always bragged about how great you were. I see that now.’’

’’Thank you.’’ I manage. Not sure what to say. I am starstruck right now. Walker never leaves his pack. He is here now and I am completely shocked.

’’We came to help, we heard that Cassius is in your town.’’

Wow.

’’We,’’ I manage.

He nods ’’I brought a few of my strongest wolves,’’ he places his arm over my shoulders and leads me to the gates. We get there and I open my eyes wide from the sight in front of me. He said a few but there are over thirty people out there.

Chapter 144: You saved me

Darrien.

’’Here you go,’’ I give him the bag of blood. He has drunk a total of three bags and it has just been one day. I am trying out something. You see, if he has enough blood, he will not attack anyone. I want to keep him satisfied no matter what. Last night, I have that Jabi is still a wolf. As long as he doesn’t lose that part of him, I will be okay.

’’Thank you,’’ he manages meekly. I watch him as the downs the whole bag hungrily. I can never get used to seeing him drink blood. It is still so surreal to me.

I ruffle his hair playfully unable to resist him and how cute he looks right now. His cheeks are rosy red, his eyes are the big brown I love. I prefer his brown eyes to the blue of his wolf. Okay, that is not cool to say but it is true. I love when he looks at me with those big doe eyes. They melt my heart into goo. I never thought I could love someone this much. It is still unbelievable to me.

A knock on the door completely takes me out of my trance and Blue’s scent kicks in immediately. The smile on Jabi’s face disappears and is replaced with a terrified expression.

’’It’s alright. Its just Blue,’’ I tell him as I stand up to answer the door. We have both been indoors all day, for the fear of aggravating anyone any further. No one is happy with Jabi right now, at least from what I gathered from Eligio. They are all nagging on about how he attacked a kid—he is just a kid too. I mean, not in that way but they are the same age. So, I don’t understand why they are making him out to be some sort of predator. He had a bad night but we are handling it. he is fine now, he hasn’t blacked out all day.

I have kept my eye on him just in case, but it seems to me that if this is handled properly, he will be okay. I stop in front of the door and take one more look at him. I need his assurance that he is okay. If he is not ready to meet Blue, I will just send him back. I don’t want to do anything that he is not ready for.

No pressure.

’’You good with him coming inside?’’ I ask.

He nods his head and mouths the word sure. No sound leaves his lips. He is going back to his shy self. The side of him that he shows to everyone but me. I like that I am the only one that knows the real him. then I can be the only one that sees how special he is. I can be the only one for him. I will take that position gladly and proudly.

I open the door and blue smiles warmly ’’Hello, so I have good news today.’’ he does straight to the point. I like that about him. I don’t even know where he came from or what his story is but he is a very calm person and I like that about him.

’’Great, we need all the good news that we can get.’’

I move for him to enter the house and he does that. Jabi stands up from the couch and I walk over to him, putting my arm over his shoulders. He looks up at me and manages a faint smile. I guess he needs the good news as much as me.

’’Beau was supposed to be here but there is a lot going on right now.’’

Yeah, I also know about everything. Eligio has kept me updated on the Cassius matter. I am supposed to be with them on the frontlines but I just can’t leave Jabi unless I am very sure.

’’So what’s the good news.’’

I lead Jabi back to the couch ’’Have a seat,’’ I offer blue; who takes the one opposite us. He places his hands on his knees and we both watch him, waiting for the news he so very wanted to let us know. I know it has to do with Jabi. Everything that is going on, he said he was going to get a diagnosis from the blood he took.

I already know what is going on from what we did last night.

’’This is perfect for you Jabi. This transformation.’’ He mutters still smiling.

I furrow my brows in confusion ’’What do you mean?’’

’’I was right about you being a hybrid. You are the first of your kind. this is a milestone.’’

A milestone because he is different. I have always known that Jabi was special; from the first time, I saw him. I saw it in his eyes.

’’Okay, what does that mean?’’

’’Jabi’s wolf was dying.’’

I stand up from those words, in complete and utter shock. My heart is racing against my chest. I don’t know how to react to this. ’’How... why?’’ I don’t even know what to say.

Just the thought that he was dying is making me freak out. I know he is fine now but I can’t help but panic.

’’He’s fine now. Jabi is stronger than he has ever been. You have nothing to worry about. Your blood saved him from dying and along the mix, that was how the transformation happened. So it was his fight to live that made this happen.’’

His explanation doesn’t make any sense ’’wasn’t the mating ritual supposed to give him that strength he needed?’’

’’Yes, that is how it usually is but Jabi’s wolf had deteriorated beyond repair. Immortality saved his life.’’

So, he is immortal?

That is the one thing I don’t have any problems with. spending eternity with him is a dream come true. When I found him, I thought I would have to watch him die. That was my biggest worry.

’’What does this mean now?’’ I look at Jabi because he is too quiet. I don’t know how all this is settling In his head. if the table were turned and this was happening to me, how would I feel? At this point, the only thing that is important to me is him. I wouldn’t mind anything else, as long as he iss with me.

’’It means nothing. Everything is fine. He is fine now. You just need to monitor him, make sure he doesn’t go without blood. He is different from you. Without blood, you go into a prolonged sleep state, but for Jabi, it turns into a manic episode. Hence the attacks.’’

So all I need to do is make sure he has enough blood. Oh, I can do that. give him blood. Pretty easy.

’’Gotcha,’’ I answer, grabbing unto Jabi’s hand and giving it a comforting sneeze.

’’Well, I need to go now. You are also needed at Beau’s house. Cassius business.’’ He informs me.

I kinda knew eventually they will need me for whatever they have planned but I wished it didn’t have to be today. I still want to spend the rest of the day with him. I am not ready to leave him yet.

’’Alright, thank you, Blue. Your help is appreciated.’’

He smiles ’’Jabi, you will be fine. Beau said I should let you know that he isn’t upset with you. He was supposed to come and see you today but you can understand with everything that is going on.’’

Jabi nods his head still mute. I wish he would talk. I want him to get out of his skin.

’’T..th..thanks,’’ he manages and this brings a smile to my face. This is a start. At least he said something.

Blue leaves us and I face Jabi at once. Wanting to know his thoughts on everything.

’’So...’’

He walks closer to me and his arms are around me instantly. This is a relief to me. I need to make sure he is okay.

’’Are you good?’’ I ask.

I feel him nod against me.

’’Do you want me to stay?’’ I ask as he pulls away from me slowly. I don’t know if this is a good time to leave him. Blue just basically told us that he was on his deathbed. If we didn’t have the mating ritual when we did, God knows what would have happened to him.

’’They need you more than I do right now,’’ he smiles faintly.

I shake my head like I have been saying. He is my priority. The only one that is important to me. If he needs me here, then I will drop everything else.

’’You can tell me how you feel. With everything that is going on.’’

’’I don’t feel anything. It’s just been so exhausting. I will be fine.’’ He tries to brush it off but I want to dive deeper.

’’Do you have any regrets?’’

He shakes his head ’’You literally saved my life. Meeting you and then finding out you were my link saved my life. how can I regret that.’’

He has a point there but that is not all we are. I am not just the guy that saved him. he is my everything. I hope I am his too.

Chapter 145: Who to trust.

Beau.

’’You want to help us?’’

This seems so unbelievable to me. Almost like the deities are finally saying ’don’t worry child...everything will be okay.’ Walker fields came with his own form of assistance. He brought a lot of people with him. These people will help in the ways we need. His smile is warm. Another face that looks trustworthy.

My heart is racing against my chest because I don’t know how to react to this. Cassius will not expect this. Right now he thinks he has the upper hand. He thinks he is going to win against us but I can already feel our victory and I know it is too early to celebrate but I am so happy.

’’Wow... I don’t even know what to say. This means a lot to our pack. How did you know we need the help?’’ I ask him. If everyone has heard about Cassius. I think coming together is the best thing to do right now. The contention is pretty much void right now. It was brought about to bring peace between the two kinds but right now, my kind is pretty much endangered. There is no contention as long as we have him hunting us.

Yes, I know this doesn’t mean all the vampires are grouped into one category. They are not all bad, I am in love with one so I can attest to it. As long as they are not a threat to us, I don’t have a problem with them.

’’Everyone is aware of what is going on... I won’t just sit back and watch him win anymore.’’ His words are comforting. I would’ve done the same. Somehow Cassius and his murders have been sheltered from me. I didn’t even know about him until Lanis came into my life. Father kept me hidden from everything and I think that is why things are a lot harder for me right now. if I knew, I could’ve been preparing long before but now he just came like a surprise and most times I don’t know how to handle him and all the problems that come with him.

’’This means a lot and your kindness will never be forgotten,’’ I tell him from the bottom of my heart. It takes a lot to risk your life for people that you don’t know. That is why I am so indebted to Lanis’s family. They came into the community and they have been the biggest help. Now we have more people. This is enough to form our own army. Cassius has his troop and now we have ours.

’’Repay it with the same when we need you,’’ he winks and I blush from the embarrassment.

I lead them into the guest quarters. Before all this and the death of my father, we used to have guests from all over the world. Werewolves like us. This was like an incentive to help people find their mates faster. So having space for all these people is nothing big. There is a whole house, ready for guests.

I leave them to settle in and walk out of the house with Lanis. There is a smile on his face as he grabs my hand in his ’’This is great, everything is working out,’’ he mutters as we walk hand in hand. Yeah, it is too soon to celebrate, Cassius is not that easy to eliminate. I know it will be hard but I am going to believe that everything will work out. Seeing my future after the ritual makes me believe that this hard time will pass.

I know that everything will be okay.

Before I can answer Lanis, the splitting headache that comes with Cassius’s memory springs up. Catching me off guard. I fall to my knees, feeling Lanis as he grabs me by my waist.

’’What do you mean?’’ Cassius screams angrily.

Everywhere is dark. The angry sound of his voice is all I can hear. I know in this moment that something has happened. I close my eyes tighter, not even being interrupted by Lanis. He knows why this is happening. I am sure he is being extra quiet, so as not to distract me.

’’They know that we are coming.’’

The other voice informs him and my heart beats heavily against my chest. Shit, this is not a good thing. Thinking he had the upper hand was our greatest weapon. Now, somehow he knows that we know. So he might push this. He might not come anymore.

’’How did they find out? Is this a situation of betrayal?’’

His voice is cold. The anger still emanating from the depths of his throat. Slowly, my vision becomes clearer and I see him. This time in unfamiliar territory. I am now seeing things from his eyes. This is pissing me off because things are not going as planned.

’’We can’t be too sure. Our inside guy doesn’t know how he found out but I am suspecting we have a mole.’’

Fuck.

I don’t want him thinking there is a mole on his side. This could lead back to Bade and Brone. God, no. this can’t happen right now.

The fact that there is someone on our side that is working for Cassius is shocking to me. How would you work with the person that wants to eliminate your own fucking kind? I can’t find it in me to believe that.

’’Find out who it is. No matter what, I want this down before Saturday. We are still heading out tomorrow. Unfailingly.’’

He ends the conversation by walking away from the same man as the last time. My eyes open abruptly and Lanis is watching me with a worried expression. He knows what just happened. I don’t know how to react to this information. The good thing is that he is still going to come even though he knows that we know, the bad thing is that we have someone in this pack that is giving him information.

’’I need to call Bade. We need to know who the mole is,’’ I tell Lanis immediately completely forgetting that he has no idea what I am talking about.

’’Mole?’’ he asks with furrowed brows.

’’There is someone in this pack that is giving Cassius information. I need to know who it is,’’ I inform him. This is pissing me off. I am at the stage where I will kill whoever gets in my way. This person is leaking information to the enemy and that makes him my enemy.

’’This might not be the best time calling them. Things will be tense and it might lead to them being caught.’’

I know he is right but I also don’t know what to do. The fact that he has someone on the inside scares the hell out of me. Not knowing who It is, is even worse.

’’What do we do?’’ I ask unsure.

He sighs and then I watch him run his hands through his hair ’’No one but me and Eligio knows that you can see him. I can trust El, so we don’t have to worry about him. You trust me, so that’s out of it. Things will be okay. Let us just make a plan on tomorrow. If he is coming, we will be waiting. Calling Bade now is not the best decision.’’

I know he is right.

That is why I need him. He is the calm to my storm. Without him, I would be a mess.

’’Okay,’’ I exhale softly, the headache that came with the connection settling in.

’’You know I was watching you earlier today, with Jules. You can take him down.’’

He is talking about Cassius, this is his way of motivating me and it is working. I know I can take him, I just need to learn how to calm down.

’’Can we do the meetings with the Elis tonight?’’ he asks.

I have totally forgotten about them. I don’t think we need to even meet up with them. What is the point of meeting up with them when I know they can’t even help? Lanis wants me to, so I have to do this for him.

’’Yeah, do we have to meet with them in the community?’’

I shake my head ’’I don’t think this is the best time for anyone else coming to the community with all the uncertainty and mistrusts going on. Vampires are still kind of a touchy subject in here. I know most people haven’t accepted them. I don’t want any problems with the Elis.

’’We should meet them somewhere else,’’ I suggest.

Maybe right now is not the best time but there is no other option. It should be a quick meeting. Dash in and then out. I don’t know what they want to say to me but it would be about Cassius. The moment they tell me anything in the likes of not killing him. I will not accept it.

No matter what I will kill him.
