Ch. 146..150: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 146-150
Chapter 146: His only weakness
Beau.
’’We will be leaving the community for a couple of hours,’’ I tell Bells who nods in understanding. The reason why I am telling her is because I want her to hold down the fort while I am not around. Bell’s and Rex are the only ones I trust and now that I know there is a mole, I can’t think about anything else. It has been bothering me all day.
Someone here is feeding Cassius information about us and the things we are doing. It could be anyone in here.
From the wolves to the vampires. Lanis trusts his family but the only person I trust is him. so I have to believe him when he says that it can never be El. Elu and Darrien are the only ones left. Darrien is mated to a wolf. He lives for Jabi alone, so there is no doubt in my mind that he is not the one. Elu is Eligio’s link. She has no reason either but you can never be too sure. I know it is one of the people from the pack. The only people that have really been involved in the planning is Olin and Bell’s. I haven’t mentioned this to anyone else. Olin is my father’s friend. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt but I can never know.
Honestly, there is no certainty that he didn’t do this.
The question is why?
Who would choose to help the people that want to kill them?
It just doesn’t make sense to me.
’’Alright. What do you want me to do while you are away?’’ she asks. We are in the main house. That is my house in the living room. I didn’t want a crowd when I talk to her.
’’After about an hour, I want you to check on Walker and his people. make sure everything is okay. Cassius is supposed to be coming tomorrow. So I want us all to be ready when he does. We can’t have any surprises.’’
I watch her as I tell her and all she does is nod ’’Another thing, there is a mole in the community.’’ I whisper those words to her for the fear of someone else hearing.
She opens her eyes wide ’’I don’t understand.’’
I know how she feels, this is pretty hard for me to believe. It just doesn’t make any fucking sense to me. that someone will eagerly help Cassius.
’’Someone in here is giving Cassius intel. He knows that we know about his ambush.’’
She frowns suddenly ’’Does that mean he is not coming anymore?’’
I shake my head ’’According to what I saw, he is still coming. It seems like he wants to just get this over with.’’
She sighs loudly, running her hands through her hair ’’So what do you need me to do. You know we have to find out who this mole is. Maybe interrogate everyone. Lanis could read their minds. See who is lying and who isn’t.’’
It’s not like I didn’t think about that but there is no time. We have a couple of hours left. Cassius will be here soon and I don’t know if I am even ready to face him. it has to be me. I have to be the one to challenge him. this is my fight, it has always been.
’’There’s no time for an interrogation. Everything is happening and it is happening fast. we can’t delay this anymore.’’
She nods again ’’So, you want me to just watch everyone right? Until you get back.’’
’’Yeah, I can do that.’’
I manage a smile because Bell’s is one of my support systems. She is one of the people that I have been able to count on from the beginning of this and I am happy that she is in my life. ’’I will be back soon. I don’t intend on spending more than one hour with them. They might be of help to us.’’
She smiles as I lead her out of the house. Lanis walks to the front door ’’Are you ready?’’ he asks with a warm smile on his face.
I nod at once. ’’Yeah, we can go now.’’
’’Great.’’
*********************
We get to the hotel they are staying in. I am already nervous because I don’t know what they want. these are people Lanis fears. I see it in his eyes. These people that have no importance in his life, make him scared. I get that they are the first of his kind. he wouldn’t be alive if they didn’t exist but they have no ties to him.
’’Come on,’’ he leads me into the building.
De Lutz is the only high-end hotel in this town. It is a five-star hotel and the most expensive one in this town. Seems like the only place in this town that those kinds of people would agree to stay in. we get to the reception and Lanis says something to the receptionist. She smiles warmly and they lead us into a corridor that leads to a dark room. There are expensive-looking paintings on the beige wall. And a large couch in the middle of the room. With two other seaters. There is a bar stocked up with drinks. Seems like the kind of place these people would set up a meeting.
The receptionist points to the chairs and Lanis leads me to sit down ’’They will be with you right away,’’ she informs us before walking away.
I look at Lanis and he manages a faint smile ’’Just remain calm okay,’’ he advises me. I know he is saying this because of how hot-headed I can get. This is one of my flaws and no matter how hard I try to control myself, it doesn’t work. It doesn’t have anything to do with anger. I just get riled up and that is the only way I know how to express myself.
The door opens before I can respond to him and a man walks into it. He is dressed very formally. In a black suit and black Italian shoes. He is a dark chocolate complexion with the bluest eyes I have ever seen. I have never seen a dark-skinned person with blue eyes but it suits him perfectly. The door closes loudly as he smiles. He stops in front of us and Lanis stands up nervously. I roll my eyes because I will not treat him the way my boyfriend is. This is not a kiss ass moment. I am here to hear what they have to say and get out of here.
’’Beau Foxly, it is a pleasure to meet you,’’ he stretches his hand out for a handshake. I glance at Lanis and he nudges me to take his hand in mine. With a soft sigh and another eye roll, I grab his hand in mine ’’Nice to meet you too,’ I manage even though I don’t really feel that way.
He lets go of my hand and sits down on one o the other chairs opposite us ’’I felt one Vampire was enough for you today. So, my siblings will be absent for this meeting,’’ he pauses as he unbuttons his jacket ’’I am Atieno Delano,’’ he smiles revealing his pearly whites.
’’Okay, you said you wanted to see me.’’
He nods ’’We need to talk about Cassius Blade.’’
’’Yeah, the fact that he is killing my people? is that what you want to talk about, even though there is a contention in place?’’
The expression on Atieno’s face remains calm. I am trying to rile him up. I don’t know why maybe I want him to be as bothered by all this as I am. No one can even understand how this feels. They are not the ones that are being tormented by some monster.
’’I apologise on his behalf. Cassius has gone too far and we won’t sit back anymore and watch him destroy everything we have worked so hard for.’’
I scoff.
He sighs ’’I know this is difficult for you, but we want to help in any way that we can.’’
I don’t know how they think they can suddenly help but I want to hear this ’’How do you intend to help us?’’
He smiles, he was waiting for me to ask him this question.
’’Cassius has a weakness.’’
At this point, they have my attention. I want to know what this is. ’’When we found Cassius and took him in. he was a miserable wreck. He lost his family and didn’t have anyone. We did the best for him. we tried to shelter him but he ended up betraying us.’’
Did they take Cassius in?
What the fuck?
’’He left not even caring about all we did for him. Lucinda, my sister fell in love with him. she tried to give him her heart but he shattered it. He was so angry that he let the anger consume him completely.’’
I don’t know what he is trying to do but it won’t work here. He will not try to convince me that there is still good left in him.
No one ever will.
’’What is his weakness?’’
That is all I want to know. I don’t care about everything else. It doesn’t even fucking matter to me. I will kill Cassius and nothing will ever stop me.
’’Who.’’
I furrow my brows ’’What?’’ I ask in confusion.
He smiles ’’Who is his weakness.’’
At this point, he is just tossing me around in circles ’’Look, I don’t know what you are talking about. Tell me how you intend to help us.’’
I watch him as he stands up from the leather couch and walks over to another door. Immediately I see the person behind this door, I recognise him.
This is impossible.
Chapter 147: My most valuable item.
Darrien
’’We need you right now,’’ Eligio mutters tiredly. I haven’t really noticed how exhausted everyone is. I have been too focused on Jabi. I mean, he is the only reason why I am here in the first place. I would have involved myself in this battle if not for him. He is the one that makes me want to be good. I want to be someone he can be proud of. That is my life goal.
’’You can’t keep isolating yourselves inside. Cassius is coming tomorrow.’’ He announces like it is just random news
I raise a brow ’’How do you guys know.’’
If Cassius is coming then I don’t want Jabi to be here. His sole intention is to kill all the wolves and I can’t and won’t take that chance of involving him in this.
’’There is word going around that there is a mole in the community, so Beau is being very secretive with his information but he has this bond with Cassius. Almost like the mind link you have with Jabi,’’ his voice is low. The only reason why he is telling me this is because he trusts me. I have a lot to lose, so I won’t even go to that extent. Jabi is my life, betraying his pack will be the same as betraying him.
’’So what’s the plan. We are gonna kick his ass when he gets here, right?’’
That is all I want to do. All the pain that man has caused these people. He needs to be paid back in ten folds.
’’Yeah, A pack from the next town came over with their men. They are ready to fight with us. It seems like we have enough people for this battle,’’ he is beaming excitedly. The fact that he has no ties to this pack, unlike me and is still sticking around is very big of him. I wish I was like Eligio. He is the most selfless of us all. Belis is not even involved in this. I get that he is father’s right-hand man and he basically never leaves the man’s side but this is a situation that deserves an exemption but I know he will not involve himself in this.
There is no reason for him too.
’’That’s good. I think things are a little settled with me and Jabi. He has more control of himself now.’’ I reduce the sound of my voice, so he won’t hear. I really don’t want Jabi to worry about anything. All I want to do is take care of him and make sure he is safe.
’’Yeah, Blue said he is better off this way, does it feel like it is?’’
I nod immediately. I can already feel him getting stronger. I think without me, he could protect himself. This leaves less worrying but I won’t even take the chance. As long as I am alive, I will make sure no harm comes his way.
’’We are not getting to that place where he will need to but yeah, he is a lot stronger now. Kind of makes me relax a bit.’’
El smiles warmly, I can sense that he is happy for me. ’’We are all getting ready for tomorrow. We need you in the main house. We are sending all the kids and omegas out of the community, we can’t have the chance of them getting hurt. We will use the secret base, father gave us permission to. You doing the same with Jabi?’’
That is the best place to keep them. It is an underground safe house that we have always had in the family. It is off the grid and hidden from the world. There is no way Cassius will be able to get to it.
There is no doubt in my mind. Jabi cannot be here tomorrow. I want him safe and away from all that is about to happen. I know people will die, I won’t take any chances with him.
’’Of course,’’ I tell Eligio blatantly.
He nods in understanding ’’They are leaving in a couple of hours, so I need him accounted for.’’ He informs me ’’Get your butt to the main house. This is not the time to be all lovey-dovey.’’
I roll my eyes playfully and he chuckles as he walks away from me ’’Hurry up,’ he yells as he disappears out of sight. I walk back to the cabin and Jabi is seated on the couch with his legs crossed. There is a book on his knees and his eyes shift back and forth the pages. I walk over to him and go on my knee trying to get his attention. He is reading a comic, with cartoons. I didn’t even know he was into this kind of stuff.
’’Hey,’’ I pull him to look at me from his chin. He looks away from the pages and to me with a faint smile on his face.
My favourite side of him.
’’I need you to gather a couple of things.’’
He furrows his brows ’’Why?’’
I know this will be difficult to ask him. He wouldn’t want to leave without me. Jabi will want to stay here. I know he will.
’’Cassius is coming back. I want to make sure you are safe.’’
’’Are you coming with me,’’ he asks meekly.
’’No, I have to stay here.’’
He shakes his head immediately ’’I am not going anywhere without you.’’ He insists adamantly.
I sigh, okay I don’t know how to convince him. I give him what he wants and I don’t know how to refuse him. Please, let him make this easy on me.
’’I can’t focus here unless I know you are safe.’’
’’I don’t want to leave, let me stay and help,’’ he pleads.
I knew this was going to be hard. Jabi has never been stubborn. Most times, he doesn’t argue or fight to get what he wants. He is usually quiet and goes with the flow. Why is he choosing this moment to be stubborn?
’’I can agree to this baby. I need you safe. If you are here, all I would be able to do is worry. Do you want me to get hurt worrying about you?’’
I am guilt-tripping him right now but this is the only way I can get him to see that I mean well. This is not me thinking he is not strong enough. I can’t have him here, anything could happen and I will like to make sure that he is safe.
’’You think I am useless,’’ he cries, covering his face with his hands.
I didn’t say that. In fact, I never even implied that but like I said earlier. He is choosing to be stubborn right now.
’’You are not useless.’’
’’Then why don’t you want to let me do this? Please let me stay here with you. I can help.’’
I don’t think Jabi can be of any help. He is still figuring out things, he is not strong enough to engage in a fight. I don’t want to say all this to him, I don’t want to hurt him right now but I have always been honest with him and he deserves my honesty right now.
’’Baby, please this is not the time for this. Can you just listen to me?’’
Tears well up in his eyes. God, I don’t want him to cry right now. Shit, this is the problem. I see him acting like a baby and I end up giving in to him. This time, giving in to him will mean endangering him. I don’t want to have to worry about him.
’’I can do this, please believe in me.’’
When he says things like that to me, how am I supposed to oppose him?
’’I know you can. I just don’t want to have to think about you while everything is going on. You know how I am when you are near me. I will be distracted and worried about you the whole time.’’
That is the only way I can explain this to him.
’’I am not going,’’ he crosses his arms over his chest.
Fucking hell, why is he doing this now?
’’You don’t have a choice.’’
He stands up from the couch and walks away from me, shutting the door of the bedroom loudly. This is harder than I thought it would be. I walk into the room quietly and he is on the bed with the covers over his face. He is acting like a child right now, I should be pissed off but I still fucking love him so much.
’’I didn’t handle that well,’’ I mutter quietly because I need to change my attitude towards this.
I sit on the edge of the bed and the mattress presses "come on, let me see your face,’’ the desperation is evident in the sound of my voice. ’’Please,’’ I add.
Slowly he pulls the covers and I see his face. The most beautiful face I have ever had the privilege of seeing.
’’Please don’t let me leave,’’ he cries, coming into my arms. I wrap my arms around him, pulling him closer. What is he afraid of?
’’This is not permanent. I will come to get you after this is sorted.’’
He shakes his head, still in my arms ’’What if something happens and I never see you again.’’
The pain in his voice breaks my heart and suddenly I hate myself for being so selfish. He is worried about me. Just the same way I am worried about him.
’’I am not going anywhere. I promise.’’
His crying intensifies making my heartache. I don’t know what else I can do to assure him that he is mine forever. ’’Okay,’’ I pull away from him gently, reaching for the chain around my neck ’’This is the only thing that is valuable to me apart from you. I have had it since I was human. The last thing I got from my father before he died. I am going to give this to you. I want you to give it back to me after this is all over.’’
I remove the chain from around my neck and he watches me as I stretch it out to him. It is a plain gold chain. Won’t be worth much these days.
’’I will never leave you.’’
That is my promise to him and myself.
Chapter 148: For reasons unknown.
’’Run and never look back.’’ The man’s voice echo through the darkness of the sky under the full moon. The younger boy wipes the tears as they fall off his face out of his control. He reaches for the older man’s hand and grabs unto the hems of his shirt. The resistance clear in his actions.
’’I don’t want to go. I won’t leave you,’’ he cries desperately for a miracle. Anything to save them from the ordeal they face. The sounds of footsteps get closer and the closer they get, the more terrified the older boy becomes.
’’there is no time, I will not forgive myself if something happened to you. Please just listen to me and go,’’ this time, his voice is louder, angrier. Maybe the anger will deter the boy and make him listen.
’’You said you would never leave me. You are leaving me now,’’ he shakes his head, being completely stubborn at this moment.
’’Stop this right now. We talked about this. There was a plan. If anything happened you agreed to run. Why are you doing this now.’’ is voice croaks as it gets harder and harder for him to express himself. This is not as black and white as the younger boy is making it to be. He cannot leave because he had made a pact with his family. If there was a situation like they were facing right now, he had to stay. He had to fight and salvage whoever he could. Running away right now with Rogers would be a betrayal. One that he would never be able to get out of.
’’I don’t want to lose you. I love you.’’
’’I love you too and I need you to survive. You have to survive for me and all that we shared. Promise me you will never give up?’’ Gyles manages in between the sniffs and crying.
The younger boy nods his head immediately and their lips mesh together for a kiss that feels like the last as they both clutched unto each other. In the eyes of everyone, this was a goodbye kiss. They both knew it, as they slowly let go of each other.
’’I love you so much,’’ Gyles manages as the tears fall down his face.
The moment he watches the love of his life disappear, the doors to the room open and a smiling monster looks up at him.
Beau.
My eyes stay open and fixed to the man in front of me in complete and utter shock. My hands tremble against the jeans I have on. This is shocking to me because he is someone I will recognize in an instant. Those eyes, the way they looked at him.
How is this even possible?
The fact that he is here means I have officially lost my mind.
’’What is going on?’’ I blurt out in confusion.
Atieno leads him closer to the couch and they both sit down opposite me. My eyes stay fixated on the man in front of me. I can’t even react properly to this because I am still in shock.
’’I thought you died.’’ I manage to breathe out.
’’He never did. Cassius being hell-bent on getting revenge even though he didn’t see for himself. He never verified his death. Gyles has been alive all this while.’’
All the memories Cassius shared with me come springing back. Even from them, I am still persistent on the fact that he died. Now somehow along the lines. Gyles is here and he is alive. This could stop everything. I need to know how this even happened in the first place.
My eyes dart from Gyles to Atieno. I don’t even know what to ask. I don’t even know how to comprehend this. This means a lot. Letting Cassius know about this will break him completely. I want him to get to that point where he would realize everything that has happened and have complete remorse but I will also be there to kill him. I will not let this slide. I want his final moment to be seen by his one true love.
’’Why is he so quiet?’’ I ask confused by his silence. Staring at Gyles now, he is nothing like the man I remember in those memories. His expression is blank, almost like he is not really here.
’’He has been like this since we found him. The only reason why we haven’t done anything about it.’’
’’Where did you find him?’’ I ask wanting to know all the details. Lanis is quiet through all this. I can’t explain how happy I am from this new development. I thought our chances were slim to none. Cassius is the biggest threat I have had to face till now. I was so scared that I would let everyone down but now, here in this moment. There is hope.
’’It has been a couple of years now. News went out about Cassius and people talk. Along the line, his history was brought up and more talk. The wolves that attacked the Brightwood family, in Lanesville meadows. Till this day, there is no surviving member in the pack. No one knows the reason why they ambushed those vampires. The answers to those questions have been buried along with them but they never killed Gyles. He was found in a sleep state in a coffin in the moonlight cave of their pack. Asleep for over three hundred years.’’
I knew there was another side to the story, from the beginning. I knew that Cassius had his own picture of everything that happened but I also knew that it wasn’t the only picture that was painted. I was curious to find out what happened. I wanted to know why my kind would ambush a family of vampires in the night while they were all asleep. Even now, I still want to know and it seems like the Elis don’t even have a clue.
They are supposed to be the strongest and Wisest of their kind but to me, they are only the oldest. They have had Gyles for years and did nothing about it.
’’Why are you showing me him now?’’ I ask wanting to know their reason.
’’We found Cassius, formerly known as Roger when he was just a kid. We made him who he is today. He was just a boy with nothing but the blood flowing through his veins but my sister Lucinda, took a liking to him. We made him part of the family, turned him into one of us.’’
Ah ha. So they are the ones that made him into a monster.
’’We thought we could salvage the only good left in him. For years, we tried. He was hell-bent on revenge. Nothing else mattered to him. We couldn’t do anything to save him, and we couldn’t eliminate him because of the love Lucinda had for him. Just like Gyles is his weakness, Cassius is Lucinda’s. She has been trying to protect him. Make it seem like there is still hope for him but the more people he kills, the less I believe in that.’’
He pauses and I watch him unsure of how I feel about his honesty ’’We rarely involve ourselves in the lives of other vampires. We like to stay quiet but this has gone on for too long and I have listened and tried to understand Lucinda’s feelings for too long. now, we need action. We need to end this and I know this is the only way we will get him to stop without having to kill him.
’’Oh, I plan on killing him. No matter what,’’ I announce because I don’t want to act like I believe he is redeemable.
There is no other way for me.
Atieno furrows his brows ’’I know how you feel, if it comes to that, he has to die but we have to try things this way first.’’
Why do they even need me? They have Gyles. That is all they need to get Cassius to back off. I am irrelevant to their plan.
’’there is no other way for me. You seem to forget that Cassius has killed my people. He has hurt his kind too. I will not sit back and try and play matchmaker to bring him to the good side. That is not going to happen.’’
’’I understand but there is a contention right now, what you plan to do could start a full-on war. We don’t want this to get to that, let us try and settle this amicably. Cassius will pay for his crimes but no one has to die.’’
I stand up from the couch. I don’t agree with his words. I believe the only way this will end is with his death. As long as he is alive, there will be pain and misery. As long as he is still as strong as he is, he will always be a threat to me and my family.
I have to kill him.
Chapter 149: More to the story
Alanis.
I can see him about to react.
I know a bad reaction from Beau when I see one and I don’t think him getting upset right now is the best thing for anyone. The Elis are not to be messed with. They have more power than anyone could imagine and just because they choose not to kill, they could do worse than death.
’’I am not playing this game with you people,’’ he says deadpan.
I watch him because right now his voice is still calm. He hasn’t reached that hot boiling stage yet. Not like I want him to. The moment he does, I will have to calm him down and take control of the situation.
’’This is not a game,’’ Atieno replies calmly.
He doesn’t see Beau as a threat.
’’We have to kill Cassius. I will not leave this to you people if you think you can just give him back the one person he has loved all his life and try to make things better. He doesn’t deserve this salvage. He only deserves death.’’
I get his point. I hate Cassius as much as he does and now they want to find a way to stop him without killing him. That is not the best idea, I know that but they must have their reasons. They don’t just do things without thinking first. They must have their reasons and that is why I want Beau to listen to them first, before reacting.
’’This is not about killing him. There is more to this. Cassius lost his humanity the day he lost Gyles. He is in that state that can be shut off. Don’t you at least want to give him a chance?’’
Is that their reason?
To me, that is not a good enough reason.
’’He killed my people. He wants to kill the rest of my family. He has been hunting my kind for years now and you are asking me to give him the benefit of the doubt?’’
Now his voice is laced with Anger. I can feel him getting to that stage that I don’t want him to. ’’We are not going to of this your way,’’ I speak out for the first time tonight. There is no way we are going into this with that notion. We are going into this to fight and then to win. There is no debating on that. Cassius can’t just decide to be a good person just because Gyles is alive.
’’What are you saying?’’ he asks even though I was plain and clear.
Beau watches me and I tell him to take a seat with a mind link. I don’t want him to end this meeting on a bad note with them. They are not the kind of people to make us do anything. They will not force us to do things their way, so I will handle this.
Beau sits on the couch again and I face Atieno with a smile on my face ’’We are not going to do this your way. We don’t want to go not this to save Cassius. As long as he is alive, he will always be a threat to us. You said Gyles is not the same. What exactly is wrong with him?’’
The man has been quiet all day. I want to know what is going on in his head. He is in this room but it seems like his mind is far away from here.
’’He was tortured for years. Starved, beaten and experimented on.’’
I furrow my brows ’’Experimented on?’’
He nods ’’We have been trying to get into his head for a while now. He has closed it off completely but from what we could gather, those wolves went into that house that night for Gyles. He was their main target all along.’’
’’So what does that mean?’’ beau interjects with curiosity.
’’We can’t tell you because we don’t know but things are not as black and white. Whatever that happened is unknown to us. Once we get a clearer picture, we will know how to handle things.’’
Beau sighs loudly ’’This doesn’t have anything to do with Cassius. He wasn’t the one that they took. He was safe. Gyles protected him, I saw it all and he used the love the man gave him and turned it to hate. He is a monster right now because that is who he has always been.’’ He is getting upset again.
’’Cassius is coming to the community tomorrow. I will be ready when he does and I won’t just sit back and see if he can come around. I will kill him.’’
With that he gets up from the couch and storms out of the room. I know he will not leave me, he is upset but also not angry enough to leave without me.
’’You are not listening to reason,’’ Atieno looks at Gyles again. ’’I believe he will come through. He just needs a lot of attention and time. We need to figure out why he was kidnapped. There is always a reason for every action.’’
I totally understand what he is saying but I also know that it has nothing to do with us. In this moment, right now, Cassius is a threat to us. He will not hesitate to kill us if he gets the chance. So why should we treat him differently?
’’How sure are you of his attack tomorrow?’’ Atieno asks me calmly.
’’Very sure.’’
He nods ’’We want to be present, give us the permission to and we will be there.’’
Will Beau really want them there? He is already pretty pissed off. Even though he doesn’t want to use Gyles, I actually think it is a good idea to. No matter how we look at it, Gyles will be the kind of distraction that we need. Cassius will not be able to handle him and that is when we attack. When he is not in his right frame of mind.
’’I can’t make that decision on my own,’’ I answer him honestly.
He nods again ’’Will you let me know if we are welcome?’’ his voice is the calmest I have ever heard. Atieno is the best of his siblings. He didn’t even use an ounce of anger today, even though I feel it etched deep within.
The Eli’s are the only ones that I can’t read. No matter how hard I try, their minds are completely closed off.
’’Okay.’’
I leave the hotel and Beau is outside in the car we took. He looks up at me immediately and I know he is trying to control his emotions. This is very hard for him and even though he has come a long way, he still has more work out cut for him in his anger issues. There is always a better way to handle things that storming off. He is the Alpha, the leader of a whole community and he needs to always act like a leader. I know he is frustrated. Cassius is getting into his skin, I just want this phase of our life to be over, so we can move on from this.
I walk to his side of the door and he winds the window down ’’I messed up right?’’ he asks with that guilty expression that only I can read.
The fact that he can admit to his mistakes is the first step ’’A little,’’ I manage a comforting smile to let him know that it will be fine.
’’Do you agree with him?’’
I shake my head immediately. I don’t actually agree with Atieno ’’No, we are killing Cassius.’’
He smiles and opens the door, I watch him as he gets down from the car, closing it in the process. My eyes remain fixed on him as he stops in front of me and pulls me close to him. I rest my head in the crook of his neck as he breathes softly against me.
’’I really want to be better. I am trying here.’’ The pain is etched in his voice.
He is beating himself up for things we can’t control. Right now, we have to focus on tomorrow. We have enough people to fight Cassius and his army. We will not lose the fight this time. ’’You are doing great already. Stop overthinking,’’ my arms go around his waist as he presses into me.
’’You’re so calm. I don’t even know how you do it.’’
I pull back midway, my eyes on his beautiful face ’’When I see your face. I forget about all my problems. Nothing else matters but you. I only want to be good for you. That is what keeps me going.’’
I’ve never had any issues with controlling my temper. I’ve usually been a chill live in the moment kind of guy but Beau is different. There is a fire in him. One that is stronger than anything I have ever seen. He doesn’t know how amazing he is and that is why he is beating himself up.
Chapter 150: There was a plan.
Beau.
We get back to the community and Bell’s tells me that everyone is in the field and by everyone she is talking about the green springs pack. When I get to the large field, I see the crowd and my heart warms up with the intensity of how serious this is. It is crazy to think that all these people are here to help. The unity is overwhelming to me. I know we can survive this. I know things will get better.
I see a couple of people from our pack. My eyes roam around as I do a visual count of everyone that is here. ’’The kids and the mothers are with Darrien. He chose to send them to safety.’’ Bells inform me as I get closer. Everything I am seeing right now is surreal to me. This is really happening, and I don’t know how to feel about it.
Walker walks up to me; he is wearing different clothes from when I saw him earlier. His hair is up in a bun and his face carries a warm smile ’’So what is the plan?’’ he asks gently, not the kind of tone I would expect from a man like him.
I don’t know how this will work. Walker Fields is the Alpha of his pack. He is the leader and I thought he would want to channel this but now that he is asking me, I don’t think that was what he had in mind. I thought we would have a problem with this and now I am not so sure anymore.
’’Cassius is supposed to be coming tomorrow. He plans to ambush the pack. Wants to finish us off tomorrow.’’ I tell him. I know there is a mole here and I still haven’t figured that out. The fact that Cassius still wants to come even though he knows that we know means he is getting reckless. The only reason why he hasn’t successfully gotten rid of us all is because of Alanis and his family. They have been the biggest help in this. I don’t think I would be here if not for them.
’’You know he can’t take all of us. We have this covered,’’ he winks at me with a wide smile. This mas is my father’s age. He is still alive and my dad didn’t get to see another sunrise. I still haven’t forgotten about Fallon. The fact that he is so quiet is scary to me. I just hope he doesn’t have anything to do with tomorrow. I don’t want to have to deal with Cassius and him.
’’Thank you for being here,’’ I manageaheartfelt gratitude.
He pats my shoulder encouragingly ’’No need to thank me. we are in this together.’’
I leave walker fields after discussing the next thing to do. We agreed to give everyone the night. There will be a feast of appreciation at the rec centre. We know when he is coming. So, I want everyone relaxed and ready for tomorrow. I walk back to Lanis and he smiles warmly at me. always with the kind of invitation that makes me never want to leave.
’’So everything seems set, are you nervous?’’ he asks.
I shrug, I am more pissed by everything we found out before coming here. I don’t know if it was a good idea to leave without joining hands with the Elis. That might be our only mistake, but I also hope it doesn’t cost us.
’’Not so nervous. I haven’t seen him in a while. Should I be worried?’’ that is the only thing I am thinking about.
He is supposedly in my head, but he has been quiet for some time now.
’’Maybe you’re not just thinking about him,’’ he suggests.
I raise a brow ’’Cassius is all I have been thinking about. Until he is dead, I will not stop thinking about him.’’
He nods in understanding. Lanis can relate. Even though he is not the target due to the fact that he is a vampire and Cassius only wants to kill Wolves. He is mated to a wolf, so he is basically one of us already. I just need a break from all this, so the faster he comes, the faster we can get over all this.
’’just take a breather tonight. We will all be waiting for him tomorrow.’’
Uncle Jules walks over us and places his hand on my shoulder ’’Do you think you are ready for him tomorrow?’’ he asks immediately. I know we haven’t even gone so far with the training.
’’I think so... do you think I am not?’’
He shrugs ’’I don’t know his strength level, but we are all here, standing beside you so we will intervene if we need you.’’
I know how these things work. The last time Cassius sent his people, he didn’t show up. I just hope this time he is not as much as a coward as he was then because I know I can take him. Cassius is not as strong as he thinks he is. He is just very smart. I am too in my head, but I am going to try my best to work with my wolf tomorrow. I have to remain calm in all situations.
’’You should rest tonight, for tomorrow, I don’t want to wear you out by asking you to do anything.’’
I nod. I am too exhausted to even do anything. I just want to be with Lanis till tomorrow. That is all that matters to me for the rest of the night.
’’Thanks for all your help Uncle.’’
He smiles and I watch him walk away from us. I look at Lanis again and he smiles ’’Do you want to go to the rec room with everyone else.’’
I shake my head because I don’t think I want to be around anyone but him. ’’Can we just stay in my room?’’
He nods.
’’The bus is here,’’ Bells walks up to us with a smile on her face. We are sending out the kids tonight. We don’t want to take any chances.
’’Let’s make sure things are in order,’’ I tell Lanis and we walk side by side to the main part of the house. The first person I see is Darrien and he looks very unhappy. Jabi is clutching unto him tightly. The sight is pretty adorable to me. I never imagine Darrien in this kind of situation.
’’Is everyone set?’’ I ask immediately.
Jabi looks up when he notices me and hides behind his mate. The last time I saw him, he was attacking someone. I don’t like the way I handled it at that moment and I am glad that things are a little calmer now. I don’t know if it is a good idea that he is going with the kids. I don’t know his self-control level yet. That is something I need to talk about.
’’Hello Jabi,’’ I try to get a closer look at him.
’’Come on baby,’’ Darrien pulls him closer but now I can see him. His face is red. To me, he looks a lot better than the last time I saw him.
’’Hi,’’ he manages shyly.
I smile because the kid is always able to bring a smile to my face. ’’How are you holding up, do you feel any better?’’
Blue told me everything I need to know but you can never be too sure ’’He nods immediately.’’
’’Can I steal your boyfriend for a couple of seconds?’’ I ask him.
He nods and Darrien walks over with me to a corner. ’’Is there a problem?’’ he asks.
I shake my head ’’Do you think it is a good idea for him to be with those kids? Thinking about it now, it might not be.’’
He frowns ’’What are you implying?’’
’’I am not implying anything. What if he attacks one of those kids. It will be a big problem for us.’’
’’He can’t stay here,’’ he interjects.
’’I know, the nest bet might be your apartment. He needs someone to watch him. I could send Rex with him? what do you think?’’
He sighs ’’I don’t trust Rex alone with him.’’
I know he is just being protective, but it is not sitting well with me. I can’t take any chance with him. what if this time he kills someone?
’’There is no other choice,’’ I remind him.
He shakes his head immediately ’’I am here because of him. I won’t partake in this fight if I feel he is not safe.’’
I know where Darrien’s loyalty lies. I know he is only doing this because of Jabi. So this is not surprising to me.
Before I can respond to him, I hear a voice. It is like an echo in the dark of the night.
’’Beau Foxly.’’ The voice sings my name so loud that my heart thuds against my chest.
’’Did you hear that?’’ I manage to blurt out those words, even without an answer. I know he heard the voice.
’’Beau Foxly, where are you,’’ this time the voice is louder. I recognise the voice. This cannot be happening right now.
There was a plan.
