Ch. 151..155: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 151-155
Chapter 151: Life or death.
Beau.
The voice echoes louder and the splitting headache that is Cassius hits me immediately. I fall to my knees and close my eyes to his face peering at me with an evil smile—the kind of smile that repulses me.
’’Beau Foxly,’’ he calls my name again. This time I see him clearly. I recognise where he is immediately. The building looks all too familiar. It all looks too familiar. I know where this is.
’’Hello again,’’ he smiles even wider.
I take steady breaths to control myself as I feel Darrien’s hand on me. he is trying to pull me up. I open my eyes and Cassius disappears ’’don’t touch me,’’ I scream so loud at him. Lanis runs to us from the sound of my voice.
’’He is here.’’
I hear his voice in my head again ’’Yes I am, come and find me,’’ he tells me. His voice is calm, echoing in the woods.
I get up from the ground ’’I need to find him; he is somewhere inside the community. How is this possible?’’ I cry from the shock of everything. Everything was thought out. We had a fucking plan and now he is here.
He found a way to outsmart me.
’’Come and find me, Beau.’’ He calls my name again. I hate him so much. I hate that he is stuck in my head.
’’You can’t go alone,’’ he shakes his head immediately.
This is not me being rash. He was supposed to come here with his troops. Everything was settled. This changes everything and I don’t know what to do.
’’what do I do?’’ I ask him. at this point I don’t even know if he is listening. It seems like the way I have been listening in on him, he has been doing the same.
’’Just calm down. Let’s gather everyone. We need to get the kids away from here.’’ He reminds me, I am not even in the right frame of my mind. Cassius just found a way to sidetrack me from the original plan. It is not like I expected everything to go smoothly but I at least thought that this time we had the upper hand.
’’How do we get them out of here?’’ I ask with so much desperation to get this over with. I have to find Cassius. He obviously wants it to be more. The fact that he is here, means the rest of his people are too.
This is just too ridiculous.
’’Okay,’’ I know Lanis wants me to take charge. I am the Alpha of this pack and I can’t lose all control right now. ’’We need someone to follow them. The bus is already at the parking lot. All we need is an escort to take them there. There is no time anymore,’’ this time, I look at Darrien. I know he will be better off here. He is strong, I have seen him in a fight, and he kicked ass. The way he is looking right now tells me that he only wants to be with Jabi. If I choose to separate Jabi from the rest of them, he will choose to go with the kid.
I need him right now.
’’Jabi can stay with the omegas, there is no time to separate him.’’
This time he nods in agreement. As I said, Jabi is not the safest person to be alone with kids, I don’t know how this will work.
’’He will be fine,’’ Alanis assures me reading my mind.
Right now, my focus should not be on the kid. I know that much and maybe I am just deflecting. I don’t even know anymore. Moving on from the Jabi problem means I have to focus on the Cassius problem.
’’Okay, come on. Get them ready and I will follow you guys to the bus. Lanis gather everyone to the field. There has been a change of plans. Somehow Cassius found his way inside, that means his people are lurking around. I need to make sure the weak are safe.’’ I order him. I have to switch back to Alpha mode. The truth is, I cannot be weak right now.
He nods and I watch him run with super speed to the opposite direction. I face Darrien again ’’Let’s get them to safety.’’
I lead them to the back of the community. The secret spot I used to escape all the time. No one knows of that spot except me. The community is covered by a big wall. The front entrance has a gate. That it the gate that the guards are on duty, so I know he couldn’t have come in through there.
’’Why are we going this way, the gates are all the way over there,’’ Darrien interjects with a frown. I look at his hands and he is clutching unto Jabi with a tight grip. The rest of the kids and their mothers are all quiet. Rex hasn’t even said a word all through this, which just shows me how my focus has deviated these days. He is in my care and right now, I can’t seem to do anything for him.
’’This is safer for now If there are any vampires hiding in the woods. They wouldn’t be here’’ I assure him. their focus will be the front. I don’t want to take any chances with the kids and omegas that are here. I want them to get to the hideout safely.
The tiny door that I somehow stumbled upon comes to light but it is closed. If Cassius came in through there would he have closed the door? I don’t even know anymore.
’’Come on.’’ I lead them out the door and thought the woods. They all look terrified. Some kids are clutching unto their mothers while others are walking alone. The ones that are trying to act tough, but I know they are all scared. Hell, I am scared too. We have never had to do this before. Sending our people away all because of fear. This is all a bit too much.
The woods are dark and scarier than it usually is. The night sky looming over us, almost like a reminder that what is to come will be dark and lonely. We keep walking until we get to the barricade that leads to the parking lot. I can already see the bus that is supposed to take them.
My heart lunges in my chest as his voice resonates in my head ’’I see you, Beau,’’ he sings, to me, it sounds like a fucking nightmare that I will never be able to wake up from.
He can see me.
How can he see me?
We get even closer to the gates and all I want to do is get them to safety. If I have to worry about them with Cassius lurking around, I will not be able to focus.
’’Beau, where do you think you are going,’’ he shouts. This time, the sound is not coming from my head. I stop mid-walk and Darrien and the rest do the same. My hands are shaking as I fold them into fists.
I can already sense him. he is here and he has found us. Slowly, I turn around and our eyes meet. His are red, flashing in the dead of the night. That same smile is plastered on his face. Almost like he is mocking me. Darrien takes a step towards him but I stop him. there is no way I will let any danger come to them all.
That is his plan, he wants to stop us before they can escape. His mission will not be a success if all these kids are alive. They are the future of this pack and I plan to keep them safe.
’’Where do you think you are going Beau. We have to end this,’’’ he takes another step towards me but I don’t falter. I will not show any sign of weakness. He might think that the has won but I am not giving up. This is not over until he is dead.
’’Darrien, take them and make sure they are safe. I will handle Cassius,’’ I tell him in a whisper, even though I know Cassius can hear us. my eyes never leave him. I know this man and he is always prepared. He wouldn’t have come here if he didn’t have a plan. There is always something with him.
’’You are not going anywhere. Why do you keep making things difficult? This will be easy if you just give up,’’ he informs me like giving up is even an option. He has no right to tell me what to do. I will fight him and I will win.
’’You think you are doing good but I will let you know how much you have fucked up before I kill him,’’ he is watching me and this is my moment to attack. This is all I can do at the moment to create a diversion. I take one last look at Darrien before I jump up to my transition ’’Now,’’ I shout to him as I get on all fours.
This is the moment.
Life or death.
Chapter 152: The interaction
Beau.
The moment I transition, and I am in front of him for an attack, I feel Darrien and the rest of their scents disappear. That could only mean he didn’t think this true. If he really wanted to stop us, he shouldn’t be here alone. There is the probability that the rest of his army are in these woods.
’’Wow, so brave,’’ he mutters sarcastically. Right now, I am in my full form. I know it is not a good idea, but it was all I could think about at the moment. For a second, my wolf took charge. I am so frustrated right now. All the pent-up anger in me finally comes to play.
I reach for him with my claws, sharp and with so much anger. Cassius doesn’t even look scared; it is almost like he thrives on this kind of thing but here I am trying to snap his neck into two with all I have. He is fast, a lot faster than me. that Is something I didn’t know about him. with each jump and charge, he dodges easily.
’’It seems like this is going to go on forever,’’ he ridicules mockingly as he climbs to the top of a tree. I look up at him, my eyes sharp, my breath heavy already frayed from all the back and forth. In this form, I am unable to match his strength.
Suddenly I regret taking this form. this is not my stronger form. this is not the form I need right now but, in this form, I can signal everyone.
Call them out.
That is what I need to do right now. let them know that he is here. In one quick movement, I raise my head up, till my nose is facing the moon and slowly my lips part open and with all the strength in me, I let out the loudest howl I have ever had to. This is like a fight for my life. Just one man has made it in a way where he has completely obliterated my whole world. I can’t even deny it, I am scared of Cassius. I am terrified of everything that involves him.
The birds in the trees fly from the intensity in my scream. My eyes remain fixed on the sky. I know everyone in the whole district would have heard me. this angers Cassius because the moment everywhere becomes silent again, he charges at me again with so much speed and intensity that just one blink surprises me.
His grip around my neck catches me off guard, makes me fall to my limbs. A groan escapes from my lips. I don’t know who heard me, but I hear the footsteps of people coming to me.
Cassius drags me by my fur, and I feel the pain but the only thing I can focus on in this drag race is all the anger within me. turning into my full form was a mistake, I want to shift. This is not giving me an advantage with him. I grab his arm with my teeth, feeling my canines as they pierce into his skin. Cassius does flinch as I bite harder, wanting to cause more damage to him. with his other hand he pushes me off him and the force he uses makes me fly so far away that I hit the bark of a tree roughly. I hear a crack in my spine. It is so loud. I know for a fact that something in me broke just now.
I blink for a second as I wait for my body to do its healing, but Cassius is already in front of me in that split second ’’You should give up, make this easier on yourself,’’ he says to me with that same evil smile on his face. I glance at the supposed damage I should’ve caused him, but the bite has healed so fast. He looks the same from when he came. This seems like a pointless fight.
The footsteps get closer and he looks away from me. in that instant, I shift back to my human form. Wanting to take form I feel the most strength in. in that second where he looks away from me, I see everyone. Lanis and walker Fields are in the front of them all. Everyone from my pack and the people Walker brought with him. Cassius is the only one from his side but I know for a fact that he is not the only one that is here. There is a reason why he is here alone. He will not just show up alone. Cassius is smarter than that. I wish I could get into his head and think the way he is thinking.
’’Oh, I see the rest of you are here.’’
This time walker walks closer to us, slowly but his stance tells me that he is ready to attack ’’The infamous Cassius Blade,’’ he seethes out those words with a smile.
To me, he doesn’t look afraid. In fact, it seems like he seeks this kind of adventure ’’I can’t say I know who you are,’’ Cassius turns away from me and faces him. His tone is arrogant and non-chalant.
’’You are in our turf. What stops me from snapping your head into two right now?’’ Walker questions matching his tone.
Something seems weird. The fact that Cassius is so calm. Like he has the upper hand. I don’t know how I feel about it.
’’Oh, you can but I guarantee you will regret it,’’ he mutters so calmly.
Walker jumps forward and his hands are around Cassius’s neck in a chokehold. The veins around his eyes protrude as he pushes Cassius so hard till his back hits one of the numerous trees. I watch the scene in front of me, unsure of what to do. Something feels very wrong.
This cannot be so easy.
’’I doubt I will have any regrets in killing you,’’ Walker reassures him.
This gets a laugh of out him ’’Are you sure about that?’’ he asks still in that calm tone.
In a swift movement, the tables turn, and Cassius is in the position that Walker had him, his arms around the Alpha’s neck. The strength this bastard has will never cease to amaze me.
’’You might want to think about your next move,’’ he warns me as I try to take a step towards him. at this point, a growl escapes from Walker’s lips and he pushes him away from him angrily. At that moment that Cassius is on the ground, Walker jumps into the air and turns into his full form. At this point, to dodge him Cassius jumps so high to the branch of a tree. I close my eyes and use this opportunity to change. My claws shoot out and I use this opportunity to climb up the tree to match up to him.
He smiles when he sees me ’’You are the only one I actually want a battle with. The rest of them could die painless deaths,’’ he tells me with his arms across his chest.
’’I will not let you hurt anyone.’’
He laughs ’’Not even if you were the greatest help?’’
I furrow my brows because I don’t know what he is talking about ’’You thought there was a mole in your pack.’’ He jumps down from the tree without even finishing his sentence. I follow him because I am so confused. It will be so easy to kill him right now. I know that much but something doesn’t feel right. He is too proud in this moment which makes me think there is more than he has mentioned.
How did he know?
He faces the crowd. The people that came to fight today. How do you fight when there is only one person? He doesn’t even seem afraid. It will be so easy to kill him right now, but I am not settled.
’’Your leader led me here. Your leader was my mole.’’ He shouts to no one in particular.
’’You need to stop all these mind games, Cassius. It is getting old,’’ Lanis speaks up for the first time. His eyes are red. He is on alert. No one is doing anything because there is literally nothing to do but kill him.
I need to know what he knows before I end this.
’’You might want to go home Walker,’’ he directs at Walker this time. So he knew who he was.
’’What are you talking about?’’ he manages angrily.
’’Find out if you still have a pack,’’ he smiles warmly like he didn’t just say what he did. I take a step towards him but the headache springs up and he looks at me with that evil smile.
’’You think you can watch me and I wouldn’t know?’’ he directs at me angrily. For the first time, I see the anger in his eyes. I can’t respond to him at that moment but the last thing I see before I blackout is Lanis charging at him for an attack.
Chapter 153: Perseverance
Beau.
The pain from this is immense.
Maybe it is the fact that I have failed. The last thing I saw before being sucked into this dark, dark world was Lanis. I am supposed to be the one that protects him. I am the one that he should depend on him and I cants even open my eyes makes this all the more frustrating to me.
I am in my head right now.
The moment I open my eyes, It feels like an out of body experience. The darkness engulfs me, completely taking over.
’’You thought you could get into my head, you thought you would win,’’ through the darkness, I see him. Slowly he walks closer to me, his eyes shining brightly in this neverland.
’’Cassius,’’ I breathe out his name. I have said his name too much. I am living too much for this man. I just want him dead and away from my life.
’’the one and only,’’ he outstretches his hands out in the air with a wide smile.
’’I owe it all to you. Tonight will go exactly as I planned. All thanks to you.’’ He smiles warmly, almost like he is bragging about his accomplishments. The banging in my head has subsided but this doesn’t feel real. I am in my head again.
’’Oh you are not in your head,’’ he reads my mind immediately, telling me that there is no escape ’’You are in my head,’’ he winks and then gets on one knee next to me. His eyes bore into me, that grief-stricken smile still plastered on his face.
’’How is this possible, what is going on.’’
I want to wake up. I don’t want to be here.
’’The moment you wake up, you will be dead.’’ He grins and shines his teeth, reading my mind again. How is he even doing this?
I don’t even know what he is talking about?
With this man, I can’t even have a fair fight. That is what I meant when I said he is strategic. He doesn’t just solely depend on his strength. Here I was thinking I had a shot and he dragged me away from reality.
’’There is no such thing as a fair fight.’’
At this point, I don’t even know why I even have my thoughts when he is barging in on them. I want him out of my head and I want him out of it now.
’’You won’t succeed. You think you have won but you are so far from winning. .even if you kill us all Gyles will still be dead. You will never be loved. It will all be pointless.’’
I am aggravating him. he doesn’t deserve to know that the man he is fighting for is no more. I want him to suffer from the memories he has. The way he thinks it went down. I don’t want him to get the opportunity to see that man again.
’’I don’t care. All I care about is ending you and your kind.’’
’’You will forever be known as the monster. No matter how good you think you are,’’ I spit out those words to him.
’’it takes a monster to do things for the greater good,’’ he tells me like he is even making any sense. I want to leave this state and wake up. I am strong enough to take him if he even gives me the fucking chance.
He nods his head and then slowly reaches out for me; he rests his palm on my face and I cringe from the touch. Cassius is a monster. He is the worst person to ever exist and if I cannot succeed in ending him then I hope Lanis does it for the both of us.
’’I wish I didn’t have to do this. you all think I am such a terrible person, but this is for the greater good.’’
His delusion is getting to him again.
Most villains think what they are doing is the right thing. That is how it usually is. They are all heroes in their own stories but the person that is killing innocent people for no reason whatsoever is the monster.
’’I tried to make you understand. I tried to make you see things clearer, but you have chosen to be blind to it all. There is nothing else I can do to help you. Just get ready for your death. I am truly sorry about everything.’’
This hurts the more because he actually sounds genuine. I try to move away from him, but something is tying me down. my legs and hands are not working at this moment. I feel stiff and tied up.
’’Please don’t do this,’’ I beg hopeful that he will come to his senses in the last minute. I know he is not going to from the look in his face. his eyes show hatred. He is buried in too deep. There is no getting him out of it and saving him.
Cassius is gone.
He points his index finger at my forehead and his eyes stay fixed to mine. ’’This will be painless, I promise.’’ He smiles warmly.
The moment his finger touches my face, I feel a jolt of electricity. This time, my eyes open wide and I see Lanis and everyone else. It feels like I am being lifted off the ground. My eyes hands and legs burn. I feel like I am on fire. The crowd in the woods look like they have been multiplied. People I don’t recognise. His troop. The army he gathered. They are all here. I don’t know how long i was out for but from the looks of things, I must have been for a while.
My heart throbs against my chest and in a split second, I try to reach for him. I try to hold him one last time but the closer I stretch my hands, the farther he seems.
His scream echoes through the trees and the last thing I see is his tears as they fall from his eyes. the pain in his eyes will forever be engraved in my head.
The disappointment will forever linger.
’’I’m sorry,’’ I manage as things black out again. This time feels different like the other time. This time seems more permanent.
’’Daddy,’’ I open my eyes and the cutest eyes peer up at me from the pillow in front of him. My heart races in my chest as I reach out for him. He rests his head on my chest and I pull him even closer as I pat his hair gently.
’’Another nightmare?’’ Lanis walks into the room and my eyes shoot up to him immediately. There is a smile on his face as he climbs into the bed, distracting the boy in my arms. This is not Colm. The one from the last dream. Is this my second baby?
’’Are you okay?’’ Lanis asks as the little by shifts away from me and to my mate.
’’The evil man again?’’
The boy nods his head ’’He said he was going to take you and daddy away from me,’’ he cries, his eyes finding mine again.
I am always in shock whenever I get into these dreams. I can’t think straight at all the possibilities. Having a family with Lanis. two beautiful boys. It is all so surreal to me.
’’No one is taking us away from you... Not even the evil man.’’
I look at Lanis and there is a serious expression on his face. The kind that makes me feel all gooey on the inside.
’’We had a real evil man. His name was Cassius. He tried so hard to keep me and your father apart.’’
’’Did he win?’’ my boy asks with a hopeful expression on his face.
Lanis smiles and then looks at me again ’’He almost did but our love and perseverance were just too much for him. we are both here, aren’t we?’’ he asks my kid who just nods his head in agreement. Lanis reaches for me and I grab his hand in mine ’’Do not be afraid. No bad man can take you away from us.’’
He is talking to my son but it seems like he is talking to me. like his assurance is meant for me. I know I died. I felt my heart stop so what does all this mean.
’’Promise?’’
Lanis nods his head immediately ’’I promise Colin,’’ he assures him. I smile because this is the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed.
’’Promise daddy?’’ colin faces me and my hearts melt from how adorable he is.
I look at lanis, then my kid and my heart fills up with love. Shit, I can’t leave this life behind. It is not over until I say so. I will not leave like this. I have to fight to wake up. I need to make this dream a reality.
I need this life with Lanis and my babies.
Cassius will not win this time.
Chapter 154: Always a step ahead
Alanis.
The moment beau falls to the ground my heart stiffens in my chest and I can’t do anything but react. The plan went south. I knew there was the possibility, but I don’t know what the fuck just happened. Cassius used mind games on him. This was not a battle, to begin with. He didn’t come here to fight him. He came here to mess with his mind. there is no other explanation.
Just seeing him in that weakened state. Seeing him on the ground makes me go haywire. Everyone is watching, no one is doing anything. There are a couple of things that I am certain of. Cassius attacked the Greenspring pack while they were here. He knew what he was doing coming here.
As usual, he was one step ahead of us.
We knew there was the possibility, but I didn’t see things turning out this way. I thought we were actually going to win this time. In just a blink of an eye, Cassius blocks my attack which pushes me to the ground. My eyes look at Beau, he is still breathing. I can feel him, so right now, I need to take Cassius out. That is the priority.
I get up on my feet and just above him, I see the people he was supposed to come with. the part of the plan that we thought we would face. fighting with all the vampires that are with Cassius. They are like a herd of cows ready for their meal. I look at them, one by one, taking in all their scents. I can feel the desperation in their eyes. the pain that it is taking them to do this. my eyes catch Bade in a corner. There is an apologetic expression on his face. I know this is not on him, from the expression on his face.
I am not blaming him.
This is what we were expecting. We knew there would be a battle, but we all expected Beau to be awake for this. he is supposed to be the leader.
’’How will you all feel right now when I kill you Alpha? the leader you all look up to?’’ Cassius uses the top of his lungs to pass across his message. I take another step towards him, my eyes never straying away from Beau. I can’t lose focus on what is important, and he is. As long as his blood is still flowing through his veins, that is all that matters.
’’Cassius this has to stop,’’ Jules comes forward the calm tone still in his voice. Everyone seems to want to have a conversation with the man. Cassius is fucking mad. Nothing anyone says will make a difference.
’’And who are you?’’ he directs at the man.
’’Nobody important. You can do this the easy way and surrender, or we will do this the hard way.’’ I know what is coming next. The green springs pack all seem deterred right now. Cassius just basically just told them that they might not have a pack to go back to. Walker is shaken up right now and I completely know how he feels. Everything that is happening could demoralise a person.
’’Oh, you really you really think you can defeat me?’’ he shouts so loud my skin crawls.
Jules takes a step closer to him, his eyes red already. His scent gets stronger and at this point overshadows Beau’s scent away from me. he keeps on walking until he gets to Cassius’s front. This time, two vampires from behind come to his front. Covering him from the lone wolf.
’You need your lackeys to back you, up don’t you?’’ he asks with a faint smile. I have never seen Jules in a fight but the courage he has makes me think he can at least take a couple of the people here.
’’You are not important to me. I will not waste my energy on you,’’ he brushes him off like he is inconsequential. I don’t know why he thinks he is all that, why he must control everything. the two vampires in front of him grab unto his hands swiftly. Instantly, Jules pushes them off immediately, the force at which he does this is hard and this sends them flying away.
If we all decide to fight at the same time. We can take him. I don’t know what is going on with Beau; why he is unconscious right now but as long as he is breathing, that is that matters to me.
I watch Cassius as he walks over to Jules, his eyes becoming red in the heat of the moment. I take another step towards him and he smiles, welcoming me with my eyes. Jules takes another step towards him, charging headfirst. I watch the scene play out, from the sides of my eyes, I can see his people heading towards us.
’’don’t just stand there, we need to do this together,’’ I shout to the crowd behind me. I can hear all their thought. The fear masking in the face of their bravery. They want to fight but they are choosing to be cowards. I run so fast to stop the vampires that are trying to protect Cassius. He has people that will fight for him.
I muster up all the strength in me as I reach for the collar of one of them. Right now, there is no plan. Beau is lying on the floor, the people that are supposed to be our army are cowering in fear. Walker Fields is frozen in place. I don’t even know what to do. all I can do is fight. Fight until this is all over. I clutch his neck tightly, his eyes open from the pain. right now, I don’t see a vampire like me. I am doing this to protect the ones I love. Anyone that is a danger to me and my family needs to die. This is my way of fighting.
This is what I know.
Squeezing the sides of his neck, I don’t stop until there is a snap. I don’t stop until the light in his eyes, disappear.
The moment he drops to the ground, I do the same again to the other guy. This leaves Jules some time to have his way with Cassius. Slowly, I turn around and the two packs are still standing there. No one is making a move, and this is ridiculous to me.
’’Eligio come on, we can’t just sit back and not do anything,’’ I shout angry with the whole situation. They are all just freaking standing there.
Eligio is not a coward. I wish Darrien was here. He would take action. Everything that is happening seems to weird right now. We all came here with the intention of fighting for our lives. No one would just give up at the last
’’They are here but they can’t do anything.’’ He says and this makes me face his direction. Two more vampires are holding unto Jules. There is blood on his forehead. I don’t know why he would not just transition right now.
What is going on?
’’the shock is why it is not working on you,’’ he mutters, seemingly deep in thought.
I don’t know what he is talking about but I feel like he has done something. Whatever is going on with Beau is all him and now he seems to have affected the rest of the pack and my brother.
Cassius takes a step towards me ’’I could snap a neck or two into smithers and they wouldn’t be able to fight back.’’ He informs me as he walks closer to my crowd. Everyone is frozen. No words escape their lips. Their eyes move back and forth but no one says a thing. I can’t take everyone here on my own.
’’What are you talking about?’’ I ask wanting to know what he has done.
He stops walking and faces me again ’’You are not the only one that has a witch on his side. A spell here and there and everything works out to my advantage,’’ he stops in front of one of the brothers in the pack. I have only had one conversation with this person. I don’t even know his name.
’’Hello there,’’ he reaches for his face and pulls him up from his chin ’’This is the best way to do this, the easiest way to get you out of your misery.’’ I take another step towards him, my hands tremble as I put them into fists.
Shit shit shit.
’’don’t worry, this will be very painless,’’ he tells the man. my heart breaks against the confinements of my rib cage as I see the tears slide down his face. he already knows. I read his mind and I feel his pain. this is his end.
He is going to die and he is not even given a fighting chance. Whatever Cassius did has all these people transfixed.
They are stuck against their own will.
My brother is here too.
I can’t fight them all.
Chapter 155: For my own sanity
Darrien.
I get all the children to the bus in one piece and the ache in my chest soothes a little. My only worry is Jabi and the fact that Cassius is in the community makes it unsafe for him. I will do everything in my power to protect him.
’’Come on,’’ I climb into the bus with his hands clutching unto mine. I don’t plan on letting him go until we are the base. Once I know he is safe, then I will go back.
’’Did something go wrong?’’ the driver, a friend or rather, an acquaintance of my father asks. There is worry plastered on his face. All the kids and their mothers all have fear-stricken faces. Yes, something happened but they are safe right now.
That is all that matters.
’’It is sorted. We need to get away from here,’’ I tell him immediately.
He furrows his brows ’’Your father didn’t tell me that you were coming with,’’ he exclaims.
I nod because there is a change in plans. If I know Cassius, I know he will not just let us go like that. It will defeat his purpose. He wants to kill all the wolves and right now, the future generation of the pack is here in this bus. It will not make any sense for him to just let us go like that.
’’I need to make sure they are safe,’’ I tell him even though the only reason why I am doing this is for my lifeline. The one person that matters to me.
He doesn’t need to know.
His eyes dart to my hand, the hand that is holding Jabi tightly. He raises a brow, almost like he is mentally questioning my reason. I give him a look, one that tells him ’To mind his fucking business.’ He raises his hands in surrender and walks back to the front of the bus.
’’Everyone,’’ I turn around, facing the terrifying eyes ’’It is going to be okay. I need everyone to stay calm until I get you all to safety.’’ I try to give them some sort of assurance.
A woman uses this opportunity to speak up ’’What is going to happen to the pack?’’ she asks in the calm voice she can muster.
’’The pack will be okay. Everything will be okay. Just believe in Beau and the people that are in the frontlines.’’
I don’t even know anymore. With all that has happened, Cassius’s surprise, I don’t know what to think anymore. This is all crazy to me. Every time Beau thinks he is a step ahead. Cassius surprises him and shatters his plans.
’’ Where are we going?’’ another person asks.
I sigh out loud from the frustration, I am the worst person to address people. I don’t even want to be here. Jabi is the only reason why I am here. He squeezes my hands softly as the driver starts the bus ’’don’t worry about anything. Just sit back and I will make sure nothing happens to you all,’’ I try to give them the best assurance I can.
I walk over to one empty chair and Jabi sits down next to me ’’Are you okay?’’ I ask him immediately.
He shakes his head ’’I am scared for Beau.’’
Hell, I am scared too. I don’t know how to feel about all that is happening. Cassius’s success means the end of the moonlight pack. Means the end of Jabi’s family. How can one person solely hurt a whole kind? Cassius is a monster, and he shouldn’t be forgiven. He needs to suffer; he needs to pay for all his sins.
’’He will be fine.’’ I try to assure him.
All the while I have known Beau. I have seen the kind of person he is. He is a fighter, and he has my brother by his side. Lanis is one of the strongest people I know. The two of them are a power couple. They have gone against the odds and each time, they come out stronger. I want to hold on to that part of me that knows that everything will be okay.
’’You should be there with them. They might need you,’’ Jabi breathes out those words. I can see that this is very hard for him.
I am not leaving him, at least not until he is safe.
The bus starts to move and I know there is no going back. I can already see that is he is attempting to try to convince me to go back. The sky is already dark, the moon is already out. I can’t leave them on this lonely road at night with all that is happening.
’’Once I get you to safety, I will go back,’’ I assure him.
He shakes his head ’’They might need you. We are fine here.’’
His words enter one ear and leave through the other. There is no convincing me. I am not leaving him here.
’’Dar, please we will be fine here alone. It seems like they will need you more there.’’ The bus keeps going, I am not listening to him. This is not a debate. I completely understand what he is saying bit there are enough people to fight that battle. It will not be smart to leave Jabi and Rex with all these kids and omegas. Beau will not be happy with me if anything happens to all these people. The bus keeps moving and I look up to the road ahead. The darkness engulfs the environment. My hands tremble on my leg.
’’Baby, it doesn’t make any sense to leave you guys here alone,’’ I tell him because that is how I feel.
He sighs and then I watch him run his hands through his hair ’’But we are fine here. Nothing is going to happen.’’
As usual, he doesn’t listen to me. So this is one thing I am finding out about him. Jabi is pretty stubborn. He hasn’t had the chance to do things his way but it seems to me like he likes to do things his way. I want to give him everything he wants. I want to be the one that makes him smile and content but not at a time like this. This is a life or death situation. If anything happens to him, I will never forgive myself.
’’He is right,’’ Rex comes over to us. I look up at him and he has a blank expression on his face. This is supposed to be Beau’s best friend but I don’t know anything about him. He is always in the shadows, just like Jabi. Maybe it is an omega thing, I just wish they could all be more outspoken.
Things have to change in the pack. The way they treat people like they are not crucial and important. My baby is important. He is smart and kind and the most loyal person I know.
’’You guys don’t expect me to leave you here with all these kids,’’ I look at Jabi and raise a brow ’’you can’t even control your blood thirst right now.’’
He frowns ’’I have enough blood with me. You made sure of that.’’
I sigh ’’you need to understand that I will be worried. I need to make sure you are okay before I leave.’’
’’You said you would be worried if I stay at the community and now you are saying you would be worried that I am not at the community. You’re basically just saying I am useless.’’
Damn, Jabi is a handful. How do I explain to him that this if for my own sanity? I am not doing this because I don’t trust him to handle himself. I am doing this because I need him to stay alive. I will not survive without him.
’’That is not what I am saying. You are not useless.’’
’’Then go back and leave this to me and Rex.’’
They both look at me, their eyes carry hope and optimism. They want me to agree to this but I am not sure. I don’t know what to do in this situation ’’Please, go back. We will be fine.’’
If I didn’t know that Jabi would not want anything to happen to me, I would think he was intentionally sending me off but I know he is worried about the pack and the people. He doesn’t want anything to happen to the community.
’’Why do you always do this to me when you know I can’t refuse you?’’
He smiles ’’I need you with the pack. We will be fine here,’’ his grin widens, he already knows that he has won this round. I am so upset with myself for being so weak when it involves him. I stand up from the chair and he follows me, grabbing my hand again.
’’Thank you for trusting me Dar,’’ he keeps the smile on his face.
I roll my eyes because this is already hard for me ’’don’t thank me before I change my mind,’’ I warn him because I already have half a mind to sit back down.
’’We will be fine,’’ he assures me for like the tenth time in this bus.
’’You better stay alive.’’
He nods as I plant a soft kiss on his forehead.
I hope I don’t regret this.
