Chapter 291: Talk to them

Blue.

"Why are you really here Blue?’’ the man—Em asks me calmly. I have told him everything I know. I have told him the things that happened in the past couple of days. I don’t understand his question.

From all that I have said, he should know why I am here.

"I need your help. I need to figure out who is controlling him. I need to know who my enemy is.’’ I tell him calmly. I don’t want to break down in front of this stranger. I don’t know this man and I don’t trust him. I want to believe that there is a reason why I am here in the first place. everything in this life happens for a reason.

Rex hurting is for a reason and even if I don’t accept it. I completely trust that this too will pass. I believe that we will get out of this funk. I have nothing but faith in the process.

"You need my help with what exactly,’’ he asks rubbing his hands together again.

I take a deep breath because it seems like he is beating around the bush again. I don’t know what he is getting to but I won’t let him deter me from my mission. I came here because I know I am dealing with dark magic and the only way to fight this magic is by using the same kind of magic.

He performs dark magic. He knows how to handle it; I need him to help me fix this.

"I need your help. I need to undo whatever has been done.’’

He smiles. I guess he likes my answer.

"Undo what?" he asks yet another question. I groan mentally because his questions are getting kind of annoying. I don’t need the psychoanalyzing. I just need a solution and he is taking too long to give me a solution.

I don’t know what he expects me to say. I don’t know his intentions.

"Undo the curse that has been put on him,’’ I tell him, not really sure if it is a curse. It seems more like a spell. But I can’t tell anything anymore.

"And you think it is a curse?’’ he asks me.

I sigh out of frustration. At this point, I haven’t gotten anywhere with him. he is just throwing out questions that I can’t even answer. I just need him to profer a solution to all the problems I have. Is that so hard?

"I don’t know sir. I just know there is a silence spell on him. He can’t tell me who bewitched him so there is no way I can get to the bottom of things. I don’t know how to help him. I don’t know how to undo it all.’’

From the sound of my voice, I know he can tell that I am desperate.

"Why didn’t you bring him?’’ he asks calmly.

I look at Mage. He didn’t suggest bringing Rex. if I knew I needed to bring him, I would have brought him. "We didn’t want to ambush you, we wanted to come to talk to you first,’’ he answers before I can even think of what to say.

Ambush him?

"I don’t know what I am dealing with. How do I know to help him?’’ the man speaks up and It kind of makes sense.

"I can bring him to you tomorrow?’’ I suggest because a desperate man has no choice.

He nods his head and then walks over to a table. He grabs a book from the shelf and walks back to me "When you go back home, I want you to read this book. It will give you all the answers you might have. If you still need me tomorrow, come back once the sun sets."

With those words, Mage stands up from the chair and walks over to the door. I follow him, clutching the book tightly. It is a dark brown color, it looks like it has lived to see the world. the escribing’s on the front page are all worn out and rubbed off. I don’t know if this is a good idea. I know about spell books; I have had my fair share of those kinds of books but this just doesn’t seem like an ordinary book. Just holding unto it seems like a temptation I shouldn’t play with. It all seems like I might be making a big mistake.

I don’t want to go to the dark side and become someone that I always swore I wouldn’t become. I don’t want to fall into the temptation of all that

Then don’t do this.

My wolf tells me. I can feel him. He doesn’t think this is a good idea. he doesn’t want me to give in to my magic side.

You are a wolf. There are better ways to handle this.

I don’t know what he is thinking. This is not the easiest thing to have to go through. I need to help Rex and I can’t do that without magic. This is not a fight between wolves. Witches are a different kind of fight from Lycans or vampires.

What do I do?

I ask him.

He seems to be hesitant about this and I have run out of options. I am on the edge of the cliff and there is only the option of jumping down to my demise.

Talk to your mates. Use your good magic to fight this.

In the eyes of Gyles and Rex, I look weak. Not being able to get them out of this mess makes me weak and I want to always be the shoulder that they can lean on. How can I do that when I cant even help Rex right now. I haven’t even done anything good for them. I haven’t been a good mate all this while.

Get rid of your fucking pride and talk to them. Gyles is stronger than you think. He can get you out of this.

My wolf doesn’t support this. I know one thing and that is that if I can’t trust the wolf inside of me, then I will never trust anyone. I have to listen to him before I do this. I have to make sure I don’t fail them.

Talk to them.

Chapter 292: Mind link

Gyles.

He is hesitant about opening up and it seems like something is stopping him. Almost like a part of him doesn’t want to tell me the things he knows.

Show me what you feel, you don’t have to use words.

I send him a mind link. I am in his head right now but it feels like there is something blocking a lot from me. I want him to relax. I want him to trust that he can do this. I grab his hands in mine and he squeezes softly. The comfort is all that gives me courage. Having him here with me is all I need.

I don’t know how to.

He answers me and that is progress. We aren’t using words anymore. The fact that we are in our own little world, away from everyone is all that matters. He just needs to let go completely. I take a couple of deep breaths. I am pushing it. I know I am very weak right now with the lack of blood in my system. I am very hungry and I have been trying to stay strong for Blue and Gyles. I don’t want to break down now when they both need me.

Once my breathing is steady, I open my eyes again. He is watching me with a hopeful expression on his face "It is not working, I can’t tell you what I know,’’ he cries.

I nod in understanding. I don’t know what is wrong but whatever spell was put on him is strong. I also know that nothing is impossible. I can get through to him. I can get inside his head if he lets me.

"Close your eyes,’’ I tell him calmly. I don’t want him to think this is a do or die. We will go at his pace. He just needs to believe that this will work. He needs to believe that he is strong enough to fight this. Rex has been taught all his life that he is weak. Being an omega doesn’t make you helpless. Being an omega doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything on your own.

He obeys me and I watch him as his chest rises and falls. He is in a state of meditation. This is the calmest he can be with all that is going on. I keep my eyes on him, the more I look at him, the stronger the pull is. This is exactly what I wanted. I wanted to feel this connection and with each breath, I feel closer to him.

Now I want you to show me who did this to you. Don’t use words, don’t think too much about it. Just give me a face and then a name.

I tell him with a mind link. My eyes are still on him and as the sweat trickles down his forehead, I see how hard this is for him. I see the amount of energy he uses as the veins in his neck starts to pop out. He is still holding my hands, I feel him shake and shiver. His palms suddenly becoming sweaty. This is taking lot from him and I can’t stop this because I need him to do it. I need him to let me know. Once and for all I want to know who is messing with him and I want to eliminate that threat.

The light in the room suddenly becomes too bright. Almost like flashes. I close my eyes as the flashing lights become too much. I know that this has something to do with what he wants to show me. I am open to see whatever he wants to show me. I see nothing but the flashing lights and in that instant, a face pops into my head. I recognize the face. The woman that came into Blue’s room earlier. There is an evil smile on her face, one that terrifies me. She is his aunt. The person that is taking care of his mother. The same person that must have tried to kill her.

Why are the closest people always the biggest threat? I open my eyes immediately and Rex’s are already open. Red and wide. He lets go of me immediately and jumps off the bed before he even says a word. I know something is wrong. I know that he has lost himself again.

Fuck.

I try to reach for him but he is fast and his speed is unmeasurable as he runs out of the room with so much force, that it takes a lot from me to go after him. I can’t let him go if Blue returns and finds out that he left because of me. He will never forgive me.

Maybe I should have waited for him like he said I should. I did this rashly like I always of and now he is gone. I run until I see his shadow outside. The sun is setting in the grey sky. My heart is racing. He has stopped running but he is still a couple of houses away from me. The streets are empty. Luckily there is no one around to witness this. I can’t let him go. The biggest mistake I will make is letting him out of my sight.

I use my super speed until I am in front of him. The sweat is now pouring down his forehead. His eyes are still open and he seems half here and half somewhere else "Rex, baby, come back to me.’’ I plead with so much desperation. He looks away from me and to the other side of the street. Running away will be easy for him. Right now, he is stronger than I am. I am so hungry and it is making me weak.

Just take him out.

My wolf urges me with that suggestion, basically telling me to attack him to submission. I take a step toward him and he watches me quietly. My eyes never leave him as I try to touch him. To me, he seems like a robot. Almost like someone is controlling him. My fingers brush against his skin but he is quick to dodge me. He charges towards me and tosses me so far away from him. My back hits the concrete wall of a fence and I feel the pain instantly. He doesn’t stop at that and I am unable to do anything because I feel so weak. I try to dodge him before he comes at me but like I said, he is just stronger and faster than me. This time, he reaches for my neck and I cough out blood as he crushes my windpipe.

My eyes stay on him but I have no words. There is nothing to say to convince him that I am on his side. He is too far gone. His expression is cold as he squeezes even harder.

With one last crush, I blackout with his face engraved to my mind.

Chapter 293: Death

Blue.

"Call me if you still want to go to him tomorrow,’’ Mage tells me calmly.

I nod as I get down from the car. I have already come to the conclusion that I need to talk to Rex and Gyles. We all need to conclude on how we are going to do this. I don’t want this to just come from me. I don’t want to make the decision when it affects all three of us. I get down from the car, still clutching the book. I don’t know how I feel about holding something so powerful and I don’t even know why I took it from him in the first place. All I sense from the book is darkness and evil. The spells that it will entail are all going to have repercussion. Whatever we decide. There will be a price to pay. Just like there is probably a price to pay on whoever is doing this. You always have to make sacrifices when playing with dark magic.

I don’t know if I will be able to come out of my action. There is this weight on me right now. My chest is heavy. I feel like something is wrong. Just being in front of the house. I grab the bag in my grip. I had to make a stop. Get him the blood I promised. I just hate that I have messed with a lot of things in just a short amount of time. I haven’t done anything good for them and I hate myself for it. I hate that all I have brought is pain and a whole lot of confusion into their lives.

Something is wrong.

My wolf stops me in front of the house. My hands tremble as I try to hold onto the bag as much as I can. I take a strong whiff and Gyles scent is strong outside. I don’t know what has happened but it seems like it must be bad. Something else has happened while I was away. I don’t know what it is but it must be bad.

I walk down the street, a couple of blocks away from my house. His scent gets stronger even before I see him on the cold ground. It feels like my heart forces its way out of my chest. This is the second time I have seen him in this position. Unconscious and basically dead. I run over to him and he is in my arms immediately. My hands tremble as I carry him up. I know he is not dead but he needs blood. I feel him squirm against me. His skin is as pale as snow. The dark circles around his eyes are very defined. I am to blame for this. I knew he was hungry and I didn’t take it as a priority. I should have gotten him blood before I left. I should have taken him as the most important person at that point. How am I supposed to juggle the two of them and protect them? I don’t even know what I am doing right now. I don’t know how to handle them both.

I don’t know what the hell I am even doing.

This is not the time for a blame game. You need to give him blood now.

My wolf shouts at me angrily. The anger within me is so high. He seems more upset about this than I expected. Seeing Gyles like this is not a good sight. I don’t know what happened but the second I get into the room and I don’t see Rex inside, my heart lunges again. I don’t have the time to even find out what happened. My wolf is right, I need to give him blood. I don’t know how this works because I have never really dealt with vampires. This is a first for me and I don’t want to screw it up. The only way I will even know what happened is if Gyles is away. I place him on the bed and I see him move a little. It is almost like he is slipping in and out of consciousness.

Feed him.

My wolf tells me angrily. Having a voice in your head telling you what to do can be a help and also be frustrating at the same time. I don’t know how to give him the blood he needs. I grab the bag of blood and rip the top. A little of the blood spills out and falls to my thumb but at that moment, I ignore it as I place the bag on his lips. I watch him as I pour a little of it inside his mouth. He doesn’t move, I watch as the blood stays on his lips. Slowly, I see him start to suck on the bag. Finally, he is responding to me. I press the bag and more of the fluid goes into his mouth. I watch as he takes gulps of the blood. The fact that his life is solely dependent on this liquid still baffles. Vampires have restrictions. If they don’t have access to blood, they are basically useless. Most vampires want it directly from humans. His eyes open and they are wide and confusion spreads on his face as he grabs my hand and presses the bag harder. His eyes remain on me as he continues to drink. Veins around his eyes pop up, almost like evidence of him gaining his strength back. He doesn’t stop drinking until the bag is empty and even then, I see the hunger still in his eyes.

He wants more.

He lets go of the bag and sits up, on the bed. His eyes are still on me. I want to ask him what happened but I don’t even know how to.

"Have you seen Rex,’’ he asks immediately. The first thing he asks after gaining consciousness.

"No, what happened?’’

He runs his hands through his hair, releasing a heavy sigh "I tried to get into his head again. I messed things up again,’’ he cries.

I don’t know what happened but I know that Gyles must have done something again. He stands up from the bed and then starts to pace. After a couple of seconds, I walk over to him and rest my hand on his shoulder. I don’t have the words to say. I don’t know what to tell him right now. I just need to know what happened, so that I can find a solution to this.

"He hurt you again," I state because that is the only explanation to why he was passed out on the ground. He turns to look at me and there are tears in his eyes. He is crying and I don’t know why.

"You need to tell me what happened. We need to find him.’’ I tell him firmly. I don’t even know where to start looking. Rex is being controlled. For all, I know he could be hurt somewhere.

"I got into his head even though you told me to wait, I wanted to know who was controlling him."

I stiffen from his words because he is crying and all I can gather from it is that he knows who is behind all this. He doesn’t see that that is a good thing. He has made things easier and he has no idea. "Who is it G, tell me," I grab his hands in mine and tug at them. I just want this all to be over and it seems like we are closer to figuring things out.

He nods his head. The tears don’t stop falling "What if something happened to him. He wasn’t himself when he left. I could see the pain in his eyes. I broke him even more.’’

I shake my head immediately "Tell me what happened. Tell me who did this so that I can fix things. You have to tell me."

The second the name leaves his lips. A part of me suspected and the shock isn’t even that eminent. Like I have said before, I don’t trust anyone in this coven—not even my mother’s sister. The fact that she is the one that is doing all this, doesn’t shock me one bit. I let go of Gyles "I will be back,’’ I manage because I need to look for her. I need to make sure she doesn’t escape. Part of me prays she is still home. I walk out of my room and in the direction of her room. I open her door without a care in the world. I didn’t expect to find her easily, so I do the one thing I know I still have. I use my magic. I search for her through all the walls in the house. Every nook and cranny, my willed sense tells me that she is still in the house. I see her as I close my eyes. In mothers room. I see the knife in her grip. Without even thinking twice, I run in the direction of the room. I am not quick enough and in an instant. The knife is on her chest.

This time, I know there is no way she can bounce back from this. I grab Levine but it is already too late. I watch the life slip out of her. I watch my mother die, right in front of me.

Fuck.

Chapter 294: Easier times.

Blue.

It is all like flashes in my memory. I don’t even know what happens. It feels like an out of body moment. I know I was there. I know how I reacted but I don’t know how I handled it all. I don’t even want to remember everything. After she stabbed my mother again, I lost my mind. It still feels like a dream. One that I haven’t been able to wake up from. I want this to be a dream. I want to be back in the community with Gyles and Rex. I want to be happy again.

Now I don’t know if that is possible.

I don’t know what is going to happen now with Levine locked up. Everything should be over but not knowing where Rex is, just makes it all complicated.

I go down to the basement and the guard on duty lets me in. I need to talk to her, find out where she kept him. She is the only one that will have the answers I need to find him. Everything is happening so fast, it is scary. I just lost my mother and I can’t even think about that. I can’t think about anything but finding my mate. My phone rings in my pocket and I grab it, seeing a call from Jules. I haven’t spoken to him since he dropped me off at the estate. I don’t even know what to say to him.

"Hello," I say with the only energy left in me. I haven’t even shed a tear due to lack of energy. I am exhausted and I haven’t even done anything. Levine was caught all thanks to Gyles. Rex is nowhere to be found and I can’t do shit about it. I go to a corner in the halls and take a deep breath, I don’t want him to know that anything is wrong. There is no point involving anyone else.

"How are you son?’’ I hear his voice through the phone. He sounds like he genuinely cares about my well-being. The only parent that actually cared about me. Mother was in her own world. She lived her life for herself, there was no room for me in the world she created.

I know I have to tell him that she is dead but how do I even do that? How will he even react?

"I am fine,’ I go with that instead of the truth. I am not fine, each wall is breaking to the point where it feels like I will eventually lose my mind. Rex is probably somewhere, alone and scared and I can’t even feel him. I can’t even find him. I have tried using my magic but it is useless. I get his scent in the house and I don’t even know how that is possible. Something is blocking me from him. Almost like, she is still using her magic even though I have her locked up.

"Are you sure? You don’t sound too good.’’

I close my eyes and take a deep breath. One to get me out of this funk. There is no way I can pretend to be okay. Especially since I am spiralling so fast right now but I don’t want to involve him in this. I don’t want anyone else to get hurt. I want to fix this on my own, even though I know that will be very difficult.

You still have Gyles.

My wolf reminds me. I shake that thought out of my head. I have half a mind to send him back to the community. The longer he stays here, the more at risk he is of getting hurt. I don’t want to add him to the list. Until I find Rex, I need to Protect Gyles.

He doesn’t need your protection. He is stronger than you think.

I hate the conversations I am having in my head. I know that Gyles is strong but he doesn’t need to lose himself right now to save me. He has been through so much shit in his life. I don’t want to add to that. I don’t want him to get hurt. I will never survive that.

"Nothing is wrong. I am good.’’

I hear a sigh of relief and then a deep breath "I had a weird dream. Needed to check up on you.’’

Yeah, Jules has premonitions. Being alone all his life. He doesn’t really interact with people, which makes him see things in dreams. He had a dream about me. Doesn’t seem like a good sign. I know there is a lot I have to deal with now but all I want is Rex back. All I care about is finding him and holding him in my arms. Begging him for forgiveness. I wasn’t able to protect him. I let him slip out of my hands, knowing that he was in danger.

"I am okay. Maybe you need to go out more old man,’’ I joke, wanting to throw him off his suspicions.

He laughs "I go out enough,’’ he interjects playfully.

I smile for the first time today. Just for a second, I forget everything. Maybe this is the part of me that just wants to move on from this. I wish I never left the community. I wish I had lived with him all my life. My life would have been a lot better if I had stayed with my father. I would have been a lot happier.

Things would have been easier.

"I love you, son,’’ he adds when he notices my silence. He tells me this every time we talk. He wants me to know how much I mean to him but I have held all those years of absence against him even though it was never his fault. Now, I have to focus on the future. I have to find Rex and makes things right.

I end the call the same way I do. With a goodbye. I haven’t had the courage to love him back, thinking he would eventually disappear the same way he did all those years back. I want to give him a chance. I want to call him dad, but not right now.

I walk over to the room where Levine is. She is standing with her hands on the cage. Her eyes are red, she has been crying. For a second, my heart thuds in my chest. Something feels wrong when I look into her eyes.

For a second she seems different.

Chapter 295: Find your mate.

Gyles.

I toss and turn in the bed. There is an ache in my chest right now. Nightmares that I thought will end come back. I feel like I should have never come into Rex’s life. I see him in my dreams. He is hurt and alone. In pain and it is all my fault. Somehow, I came into his life to cause him misery. He was happy before he met me.

The smile that he always carried was gone in that last moment when he left me. The anger and vile expression on his face will always be plastered to my brain. Even if I want to let go of it all, I can’t. I know I have to be the one the find him.

"Help me, Gyles,’’ I see him in a cage. He is a prisoner in my dreams. He is reaching out to me but the closer I go to him, the farther I end up. I keep running but to no avail.

"Help me, Gyles," he cries again, this time, his tears turn to blood as they stain him all over his face. He is dressed in the same clothes he had on. He opens his eyes and they are full-on black. Dead eyes, almost like he is dying.

I wake up from the dream with sweat trickling down my face. The room is dark and very quiet. The only light comes from outside. I look around In search of Blue. He was here before I slept off. He looked terrible but I was too exhausted to stay awake to assure him that everything would be okay. Now, I am not so sure anymore. I don’t know what is going to happen. I don’t know if we will be able to get to Rex before it is too late.

I hear the vibration of my phone on the bedside table and it blares up brightly. Slowly reaching for it, I see Beau’s name on the screen. Beau has never called me before. I am scared to answer the call because I know he is calling because of Rex.

I don’t know what I could possibly say to him. I don’t want to get him upset right now and if he finds out that Rex is missing, he will be very upset. "Hello,’’ I answer the phone calmly.

"Thank God you answered Gyles. Where the fuck is Rex?’’ he asks immediately.

My heart thuds against my chest because even though I knew he was going to ask about him, I still don’t know what I will tell him.

"He is not with me right now,’’ I lie. I can’t tell him. I want to find him first. Make things right. I don’t want Beau to worry and come here. I am done bringing people into my mess. This is all my fault and I need to find him.

"Where the fuck is he?’’ he shouts into the phone, going into alpha-male mode.

"He is with Blue. I could look for him and let him know you called.’’

"Stop bullshitting me, tell me where he is. I know what has been happening,’’ he retorts angrily. Beau and Rex have this bond. Of course, Rex would have told him things that have been happening.

I take a deep breath because there is no point lying anymore. "I don’t know,’’ I decide on the truth.

"What do you mean you don’t know?’’

"He is missing.’’

There is silence on the other end of the line and then I hear the click of the phone as he hangs up on me. I didn’t expect any other reaction but that—I mean, Rex is like a brother to him. He would be pissed finding out that he is missing.

The door opens and Blue walks in just as I drop my phone on the bed. "You’re awake,’’ he breathes out. I see a book in his grip. My eyes stay on the book he is holding until he drops it on the table. He looks exhausted. There are dark circles around his eyes.

"Have you heard anything?’’ I ask him calmly. My mind is in a daze right now. It feels like I am in a prison and I want to escape from this reality. This place where I am miserable.

"Not yet. She is not talking,’’ he informs me.

By that, he means Levine. The one behind all this. The woman that killed his mother. "Beau called,’’ I tell him.

His eyes open wide "What did you tell him?’’

I shrug because I don’t know what else to say. He already knows my answer "What did he say?’’ he adds in question. He wants to know if Beau is coming here. I know how he feels. Wanting to handle this on his own but he is not alone. He has me.

"Shit,’’ he runs his hands through his hair in frustration "I need to find him. What if he is hurt somewhere? What if he is in pain? I can’t feel him at all. I am usually able to feel him.’’

I walk over to him and grab his hands in mine. There is no way for me to assure him that everything will be okay. I don’t even know what is going to happen to Rex. I can’t even tell him about my dream. I can’t have him worrying about more things than he has to worry about.

"Take a deep breath,’’ I tell him calmly because me comforting him is the only thing I can do.

He closes his eyes and I see the tears as they fall to his face. This is a lot for him—he just lost his mother and our mate is missing. He needs to let it all out. He needs to cry. I pull him into my arms and he rests his head on my shoulder, his breaths heavy and fast. I hold him as he cries. He stays in my arms and I help him through his pain.

My phone rings after a couple of minutes and he pulls away from me slowly. I check my phone and it is Beau again. "I should get it,’’ I tell him and he just nods.

"If he was dead, you would feel it, even though you haven’t done the ritual. Do you feel anything?’’ Beau speaks immediately I press the green button.

I take a deep breath because he is probably calmer than when he hung up "No, I don’t feel him at all.’’ I tell him.

"Okay, you guys are connected. No matter what you think, there is a link that binds you all together. Use to it find him." he tells me "I spoke to Lanis and he thinks I should wait before I show up, I want to trust that you will find him.’’

"Yeah," I tell him even though I am not sure. I don’t anything but I want to be optimistic.

"I was missing once. Lanis found me. So find your mate." With that, he ends the call again. This time, I am more hopeful.

We will find him.
