Ch. 296..300: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 296-300
Chapter 296: Good or bad
Blue.
The next morning, I sit up on the bed with Gyles next to me. I didn’t sleep a wink last night. Gyles wanted me to get some rest after my breakdown but I couldn’t. I kept thinking and worrying. Wondering if he is okay. If he has eaten. I don’t know how much longer I can take of this. When I went to see Levine, she seemed lost. She kept calling my name, almost like she wanted me to see her. I have never really had a relationship with her, so I didn’t know what to say. I wasn’t even in the right frame of mind to have a conversation with her.
I asked her why she did it.
She couldn’t give me a definite answer. She couldn’t tell me why she thought it was a good idea to kill my mother in cold blood. Her body is still warm and she can’t justify her reason for taking her life. Beau said we need to connect with him but I have been trying. No matter how many times I think about him, I still can’t feel him.
A knock on the door makes me sit up on the bed. The person on the other side of the door opens it and walks in. Gyles is still asleep, so I stand up and walk over to the door, taking badger out of the room with me. "What is it?’’ I ask him impatiently. I am not even in the mood to interact with anyone.
"The elders want to see you. They set up a meeting for noon.’’
The elders. The same people that gave me an ultimatum. To them, I have found the culprit. I have done exactly what they asked. I know what they will say in this meeting. The punishment for the murder of the chief. An execution. They don’t even care if she is her sister. Fuck, I don’t care about that either. All I want is to know where Rex Is and Levine is the only one that has a clue. She is the only one that knows where he is and if she is killed, I might never find out. I don’t know how I feel about that. I am not ready for her to be executed.
I need more time.
"I can’t have this meeting today," I tell him blatantly.
He furrows his brows in confusion "Why not?’’ he asks me.
"My mate is still meeting. I need to find him first."
"You can’t refuse the elders. They will not accept insolence."
"I don’t care about Badger. The one person that is important to me is missing and Levine is the only one that knows where he is. Do you expect me to go to that meeting, knowing full well that they will have her executed?’’
He sighs "You are the next in line, you need to start acting like a leader. The most important thing right now is eliminating the threat.’’
I scoff because he is basically telling me to be stone cold and act like my mother. Do this the way she would have. I can’t ignore the fact that a big chunk of my heart has been ripped out and taken away with Rex’s absence. I don’t care about the coven and I will never care about the people in this estate. All I care about is Rex and Gyles. They are the only ones that matter and I have to act as if I care about the other people here until I find him. As long as I am a contender for the throne, I will have power and I need power right now.
"You can’t refuse this son, this is the best thing for everyone. Your mother is dead, you have a chance to do things right." I raise a brow in suspicion. He is basically telling me that it is good that she died. I don’t want to go into this right now because I know who killed her. The people in the association were right. They didn’t do this. There is the probability that Levine was the last member. The one they didn’t want to talk about. I could focus on that. Finding out the truth but I don’t even care about all that. I only care about finding him.
"Okay, I will be there,’’ it ell him with a sigh in defeat.
He manages a faint smile. This is not even the time to be smiling. This is a day of loss and pain. My heart is heavier than it usually is. I go back into the room and Gyles is not on the bed. I see him seated on the chair in front of my desk. The book is open and he is reading it. I run over to him and grab it before he can even go any further.
"What are you doing?’’ I ask him as I hold unto the book. The book has been calling me, begging me to use it. I have been ignoring the silent calling all night. Gyles is fucking stubborn and I don’t know if I will ever be able to tame him.
"I just wanted to see it,’’ he manages. His eyes are red, it seems like he was crying again. We cried all night until he fell asleep and I just hate the pain I am causing him so much.
"It’s nothing important,’’ I manage because I don’t even want him to know that there is anything in this book that could possibly help us.
"There is a finder’s spell in the book,’’ he points to it.
"It is not important. You don’t need to concern yourself with it.’’ I tell him wanting him to forget about it.
"I read it. It says you can find anyone with it.’’
I haven’t even opened the book and he picked it up like it was nothing. I don’t know how else to explain this to him. "It’s not the good kind of magic Gyles. I don’t know if we should give in to it.’’
He frowns "Our mate is missing. Who gives a fuck about good or bad right now.’’ he shouts so loud.
"You don’t know the repercussions of dark magic. There is always a sacrifice. A fucking price to pay. I don’t want to risk things when we can do this the right way.’’
"What is the right way? Enlighten me on how we can find Rex with the right way.’’
I sigh "Beau said we are connected. I think we should look for him with that bond. There is always a right way to do things."
He runs his hands through his hair "What if he is dead? What if that is why we can’t feel him?’’
I don’t even want to think about it that way. I know Rex is a fighter. He wouldn’t just give up so easily. He wouldn’t just die and I want to believe that he is alive and waiting for us to get to him.
"Give me time G, this should be the last resort,’’ I tell him, slowly grabbing his hands in mine and dropping the book back on the table.
He closes his eyes "When do we know it’s time to do things with this book?’’
"When all other options fail."
Chapter 297: A seat on the table
Blue.
I walk into the room with all eyes on me again. This is the second time I am meeting them in such a short amount of time. I didn’t expect things to happen this way. I didn’t expect to come into this room with the argument that they can’t execute Levine.
I am not fighting for her life. I am fighting for Rex’s life but it involves her now and there is no changing that until he is found.
"You have done well Blue,’’ Magnus breathes out with a smile.
I don’t want to argue with him and tell him that I actually failed. My mother is dead because I didn’t do well. I failed to find out who poisoned her until it was too late. To them, I did something good. I got the person responsible for her attack but it doesn’t really change anything.
I take a deep breath because they didn’t call me here to discuss, they want to tell me what is agreed and I might not even have a say in it. even before the words leave their lips. I know that they want to execute her. Levine killed the chief and the punishment for treason is death by fire. They will not even be lenient about it and I don’t even want to stop them. I don’t care about anything but finding Rex.
"Thank you,’’ I manage calmly. I have to do this in a way that I will be able to convince them to give me some time. Levine will know where he is and once, she tells me, I will forget about this coven and this life. I plan on taking them as far away from this place as possible. I don’t even want the title. I don’t want to be the leader.
"You know why we are having this meeting,’’ he continues. I nod my head "This time, we want you to join us formally, have a seat,’’ he points to the only chair in the circle. He is basically telling me that I am part of them. That is a big step and I feel like I don’t even belong here, I didn’t do anything. it was all Gyles, he is the one that found out that Levine is the culprit. I feel like a sham right now.
All eyes on me, I can’t even refuse this if I want to. It feels like I am falling into their trap. The place I never wanted to be. I don’t want any of this.
Fuck.
I run my hands through my hair as they wait for me to make a decision. This is basically them telling me that I am either in or out. If I take the seat, then I have accepted them and the coven fully. I don’t know if I am ready for that. My heart is still very much heavy. I have mixed emotions about everything that is happening. Rex is still missing and the closer I get to the people of this coven, the farther I am from him.
Sit down. Don’t be rash right now.
My wolf commands me. lately, he has been making all the decisions for me. it feels like I can’t even do anything on my own. I walk over to the chair slowly and Magnus offers me a smile of encouragement. He is the only one in this group that seems to even want me involved in all this. the others are all stiff and not even accepting at all. It is not like I even want to be accepted by them. I don’t care about these people—I can’t say it enough.
"Welcome Blue, so let us continue,’’ he breathes out into the quietness of the room. I look to my side and Aggie raises a brow at me. I look away from her as Magnus continues "We are sorry about your loss. Your mother will be missed dearly.’’
I nod.
It doesn’t seem like they will even miss her. she had a title but it looks like that is all it was. They don’t care about the person. She is dead and they are already looking for someone to replace her. "Thank you,’’ I manage. I guess gratitude is all I have for them. I don’t know what they expect from me but I am weak right now.
"The burial is set for this weekend,’’ Willow buts in even though no one asks. They all nod their heads slowly.
"We think she should be punished before you mother descends."
I furrow my brows. We are two days away from the weekend. Which means they want to execute her before two days. That is too soon.
"My mate is missing,’’ I mutter calmly. I don’t want to show too much emotion. I don’t want them to see me as weak. I might feel like the weakest motherfucker right now but to them, I am the man that caught Levine.
"The man that stabbed Analise?’’ Minerva asks, almost like she just wants to remind me of what he did. I want to roll my eyes at her. she is being fucking petty but I have to stay calm.
"Yes,"
"I don’t see how that is any of our concern,’’ Aggie rolls her eyes at me. she is a bitch and she knows it right now. these people just decide what happens not even taking other people’s feelings into consideration.
"Levine bewitched him. she will know where he is,’’ I explain.
"If he is bewitched, it might be too late,’’ Minerva interjects.
"It is not too late. I am not going to give up,’’ I stand up from the chair and hit my fist on the table.
Calm down.
My wolf hums into my ear. The sound gets me back on the chair. They are all watching me. maybe this is a test. To see my tolerance level and I don’t think it will be a good idea to fail their tests right now.
"What are you asking from us now Blue?’’ Magnus asks. I don’t know how he can keep his voice so calm right now when all I want to do is freak the fuck out.
"I need time. I am sure I can get her to tell me where he is.’’
"How long are you asking for?’’
I don’t know how long it will take but I am sure with time, I will be able to form a connection with him. with all the pressure gone, I am sure he will come back to us.
"A week, please,’’ I settle for that.
I see the hesitation in all of their faces. They don’t want to do this but it seems the final say is in the hands of Magnus as they all look at him. They want him to refuse my demand but from the moment I met him, I knew he was neutral and reasonable. He is not as arrogant as the rest of them.
"You have until the rest of the week to settle this and if anything, bad happens during that time. you will be punished instead."
I nod immediately because I don’t have a choice. I don’t care about anything but finding Rex. no matter what it takes.
Chapter 298: The voice
Gyles
Feel him. once you do. You will find him. this is Beau and my innermost thoughts speaking. I don’t know what they mean by this. I have always felt a connection with Rex, from the first day I actually talked to him. My heart went to him immediately. So, connecting with the bond we have should be easier than this.
I am supposed to look for him, deep within. I don’t know how easy they all think it will be. I have thought about him, pictured him in my head. Nothing is working. Hours have passed and he is still alone. He is still not found.
I am in Blue’s room. He took the book away but I know where he kept it. he keeps saying that he doesn’t want to use that kind of magic to find him but I think that is the only way we are going to find him. whoever did this must have used the exact type of magic that he is avoiding right now? Rex’s life is more important to me than anything else. I would give my life up for him. I will lose everything to make sure he is okay.
The door to the room opens and Blue walks in. he just came back from his meeting. The meeting is supposed to tell us if they are going to execute Levine.
Gyles.
I have been hearing voices in my head. Something has been calling me. An unrecognizable voice that keeps calling me. if it is Rex, I am supposed to feel him but this is different.
"How was the meeting?’’ I manage as I sit up on the bed.
He sighs and then runs his hands through his long hair "Not so good. I only have a week to find him.’’
I furrow my brows "Do you think he is going to be missing for that long?’’
He shakes his head "No way. I need to talk to Levine. Find out what happened, see if she will tell me the truth,’’ he manages. All I am hearing is that he doesn’t plan on doing anything but talking. Talking is not going to help us right now. we need something powerful—something like a spell that can lead us to him.
"She isn’t going to talk. You know that.’’
He sighs "I know, I have to try. I could get into her mind. See what she knows,’’ he suggests. "Maybe you could do the same thing you did to Rex. compel her. I just want us to exhaust all our options."
"Do you think it will be that easy? You said she is practicing powerful magic. Do you think she will just give us what we want easily?’’
I don’t know why I am so upset by his options. Maybe just knowing that there is a spell that can lead us to him so easily. I don’t want all the trial and error we have been doing. I want a solution and he just seems to be so calm about it all.
"We have to try.’’
"I know but we can just use the spell. that is the best thing we can do,’’ I push him. I know I am pestering right now but I am desperate.
He frowns "I already explained to you that we are not using the book. Why are you being so insistent on it.’’
"If you didn’t want to use it. why do you have it?’’
"We are not using it, Gyles. For once, just listen to me. do what I say please,’’ he is commanding. Why won’t he listen to me for once?
I stand up from the bed and walk over to him "Have you felt him all this while?’’ I ask him because I want to know if he feels okay about the fact that Rex has been very quiet.
"No.’’
I nod "have you felt me?"
He nods immediately.
I have felt him too.
It is not supposed to be that way. As Beau said, you are supposed to feel your mate and I have always been able to feel Rex but now I can’t. Does he think that compulsion will be able to find him if we can’t even feel his core?
"Are you not scared that he is in danger? Are you not scared that he could be dead somewhere and we will never know?’’
He remains silent. I know I am guilt-tripping him right now but I am also desperate too. I want this to be over. I want to find him and make sure no one ever controls him again.
"We have a way babe. I feel it in my soul. I know we will find him this way. Let me be the sacrificial lamb. Let me be the one that loses. As long as we find him."
"No one is losing anything G, I will handle this on my own," he deters, looking away from me. he is avoiding my eyes. He doesn’t want me to see that he is in pain when that is all that I feel. I can feel his pain and the fact that I can’t feel Rex’s pain is tormenting me.
I pull his face back to me from his chin and he closes his eyes. He is trying to stay strong but what is the point. I want him to show me his weakness. I want him to be vulnerable with me.
"I wean to help. We are in this together.’’
He opens his eyes slowly "Help me, try and talk to Levine. See if she will talk. That is the only help I want from you right now.’’
He is being stubborn and I know he is scared but I am not. I have been through a lot in my life. I am ready to take this risk if it will get him back to us.
"Please, let’s try this first,’’ he breathes out.
I don’t want to agree to this but I also know I have to listen to him. he wants to give this is a try. so I will do that and if it doesn’t work out...
"We do this the other way if this doesn’t work out,’’ I tell him.
He sighs and nods in agreement, even though I know he doesn’t even want to try the other way.
He smiles at me and my heart melts. This is the first time I am seeing a smile on his face since everything. he is playing the tough guy but I know how he feels, I know that he is hurting. He just lost his mother. That is a lot for anyone to take in. I don’t really know his relationship with the woman and I didn’t even know what kind of person she was but he grew up with her, for a long time, she was the only parent he ever knew and in the blink of an eye, she is gone. It must be challenging for him to handle that and everything else.
"Have you eaten?’’ he asks me.
I don’t know how to tell him that I am thirsty again "Blood?’’ he asks with a smile on his face. He pulls me closer to him and I rest my head in the crook of his neck. "I’ll go get some more for you,’’ he kisses my temple softly and this melts me into goo. I watch him leave the room and the feeling of loneliness hits me all over again. Just their absences and I feel like I might implode. I walk over to the bed and the voice shouts to me again. That voice, the one that is pulling me in. it feels like I am being hypnotized as I stand up from the bed and walk over to the closet. I don’t know what I am doing.
I can help you, Gyles, just give in to me.
I take steady breaths as the voice gets louder. I don’t know what is happening but my wolf comes out in that instant.
Do not listen.
Block it out.
He tells me but the more I try to push the voice out, the louder the voice gets. I reach for the drawers and pull them out slowly. I see the book again. The one that Blue said I shouldn’t touch. It is like a bright light that calls me in. The more I try to let go, it pulls me even more.
I know where the one you seek is. give in to me and I will show you your heart’s desires.
My hands shake as I grab the book, completely unable to listen to the cries of my wolf. If I do this, I will be betraying Blue. I made a promise to him. I don’t want to break it but I am desperate and not strong enough to fight this.
I know the one you seek and I can show you where he is.
Fuck. I don’t know what to do.
Chapter 299: Disobedience
Gyles.
This is not what I want.
I don’t want to disobey Blue. I don’t always want to be the troublemaker that he has made me out to be. In the eyes of everyone, I am being stubborn, rebelling against my mate. I should listen to him and do this the right way.
You know you want to find him.
Give in to this and I can help you.
I take deep breaths as I brush my fingers against the words on the book. It is not in English. I have no idea what is on the book but the curiosity to explore the pages gets stronger. My wolf is the only strong part of me. the only one that is still fighting this temptation. I have already given in completely. My heart is leaning towards this easy way. The fear of never being able to find Rex is lingering, torturing, and terrifying me. I know that if I wait for Blue, we will eventually find him—but what if it is too late? What if I have the chance of finding him alive and well right now.
This is not the right way to do this.
My wolf reminds me. Blue said there is a darkness that will come from this book. I have had enough darkness in my life. I don’t know if this is something I want. I don’t know if, at the end of it all, it will be worth it.
Trust me, Gyles, it will be worth it. give in and you wouldn’t live a day to regret the decision.
My heart thuds against my chest. The voice in my head is calming and very strong. The voice of a seductress, pulling me into its orbit. I don’t know if I have the willpower to resist. I don’t know if I even want to resist.
Close your eyes. I will show you your mate.
I close my eyes instantly. the last shred of willpower diminishing. The second my eyes are closed; darkness is all I see. In a flash, a string of light evolves and I see him in a cage—just like the one in my dream. He is crying and hitting the bars, trying to get out but the louder he screams, the more silence engulfs him. I take steady breaths because I know this is all in my head, no matter how much I want to see him, I can’t right now.
"Where is he?’’ I ask the voice. the person in my head. The person I shouldn’t even trust. I don’t even know who this is. it might be Levine messing with my head. This might all be part of her plan and I am giving in.
Closer than you think.
I wait for her to explain but she remains silent. No more words, no explanation. She just leaves me hanging in the closet with my eyes closed. I hold the book tighter, squeezing it. in that second, the person in my head vanishes and is replaced by Levine in the cage. Just the same way Rex was, she is the one. My heart beats heavily against my chest as I drop the book on the carpeted floor with a loud thud. I move away from it so fast that I hit my back on the door. My hands tremble as I open my eyes to the brightness of the room.
I run out of the room and grab my phone from the bedside table. I don’t know how I feel about what I just saw. My hands tremble as I dial Blue’s number. He answers on the first ring "Are you okay?’’ he asks immediately. I don’t blame him for being worried because I always find a way of causing trouble.
"I know where he is,’’ I tell him immediately.
"What?’’
I Smile not even thinking about the repercussions of what I did. He said I shouldn’t use the book. Well, I didn’t technically use it? right?
"I know where Rex is,’’ I repeat.
"How, where, I am almost home,’’ he ends the call with all those questions hanging. I walk out of the room and go into the dungeon. The place where Levine is. the guard on duty lets me pass through without any questions. I am under the assumption that blue asked them to let me in if I wanted to.
"She is in the third door down the hall," he tells me calmly.
I keep walking until I get to the room. I see the cage; this is the same cage that Rex was in the last time he was locked up. this time, he is locked up as someone else. He—or should I say, she is seated on the floor, her hands are clutching the bars of the cage. There are tears in her eyes. I remember what Beau said, about feeling him. Levine looks up at me and the sadness in her eyes encompasses me. I see him immediately. I see the pain, hurt, everything that beau said I would feel.
He is the one.
"Rex,’’ I call his name.
She blinks calmly, a hint of confusion "What?’’ she asks me as I walk closer to the cage. Slowly, she stands up from the ground but her eyes never leave me. it is almost like she doesn’t even know what is happening.
"Rex, I know you are in there. It’s me, Gyles,’’ I manage.
She furrows her brows "I don’t know what you are talking about. I am not Rex.’’ she tells me and for a second, there is a shift in her eyes. She becomes unrecognizable to me. I hear footsteps, slowly turning around, I see Blue and he doesn’t look too happy.
"What are you doing here?’’ he asks me immediately.
He grabs my hand immediately. I know he is upset with me but there is no time to dwell on that "I found him, I found rex,’’ I smile excitedly.
"Why are you in here, where is he?’’
I take a deep breath because he might not believe me. he might think this is another one of my jokes. He might not believe me and I need him to believe me.
"Rex is Levine, you have the wrong person locked up.’’
He opens his eyes wide and I see the shock in them.
"You used the book,’’ he mutters immediately.
I shake my head but he doesn’t believe me. Blue knows me, deep down, he knows that I would do something like that.
"You didn’t listen to me."
The expression on his face breaks me.
The fact that he will forever not trust me.
Chapter 300: The talk with Darrien
Darrien.
"Tell Darrien his father is at the door,’’ I open my eyes to the sound of Cranwell’s voice and jump up immediately. The second I walk out of the room, I see Jabi as he clutches onto the door, unsure of what to do.
"Father,’’ I manage with a smile on my face. I haven’t seen my father in a while. It’s not that I have forgotten where I came from, I just don’t want to have to explain my relationship and the way I have chosen to live my life to him. I know how much he has been badgering Alanis and I am not interested in that. I walk until I am next to Jabi. He looks up at me with a nervous expression on his face. I never took him home to Cranwell. I didn’t see the point. I don’t need his blessing; I don’t need him to accept Jabi because my acceptance is the only one that matters and I have completely accepted him with my whole being. I stretch my hand over his shoulders and pull him closer to me. right now, he is afraid of the man at the door and I need to protect him like I always do.
Father looks at me and then at him. there is a mix of disgust and irritation on his face. He doesn’t like what he sees and I knew from the start that he wouldn’t. not accepting Alanis, who just dotes on him, just shows me who he truly is. if he really thinks of us as his children, if he really cares about us the way he has always said he does—then this shouldn’t be a problem for him.
I give him a smile, completely ignoring the disgust on his face. I will not return hate with hate. I am happier than I have ever been in all my life and this will not deter me. This will not make me appreciate Jabi less.
"What are you doing here,’’ I move away from the door and he walks into my apartment. His eyes roam around the living room. Father has always known about this place, but I would always try to come home every weekend. I would always try to be inclusive in the family but with Jabi, I don’t need to anymore. I have my own family and I am completely content with the way we are.
"Am I still the one you call father?’’ he asks as he walks over to the couch. I watch him as he sits down with that grim expression still on his face.
"Of course, you are, I just wanted to give you some space to get used to everything.’’
He raises a brow "Get used to the fact that you have chosen to spend the rest of your very long life with a wolf who is a man?’’ he asks.
He is still stuck to the same logic that this is wrong. I glance and Jabi and he smiles at me. he is basically telling me that he is fine. Words won’t hurt him, as long as I am by his side.
"I didn’t choose this; will you ever accept that?’’
He laughs "We all have a choice in this life. You chose to do this. you chose to accept this’’ he mutters.
I frown "I don’t have any regrets, I never will.’’
There is still an amused smile on his face "You are one of my precious children. I don’t want to see you have any regrets.’’
"You don’t have to worry about me, I am happy,’’ I grab Jabi’s hand and squeeze it gently. He is the only one that sees the happiness inside me. he is the only one that matters and he is the only one that will always matter.
"Alanis is pregnant,’’ he tells me, still smiling.
"What?’’ I ask.
He nods "Your male brother is pregnant, does this all seem normal to you people,’’ he stands up and walks over to me. he stops in front of us and I see the reason why he is here. He didn’t come here for me. he came to talk about Alanis.
"Talk some sense into your brother. This is the work of the devil,’’ he breathes. I let go of Jabi and turn to him "Go into the room," I tell him and he obeys me immediately. once he is out of earshot, I face father again.
"You are a vampire; you have lived for over a thousand years. People will say that your existence is the work of the devil. How can you be so narrow-minded? How can you be so stuck in your past ways? Why won’t you just accept that times have changed? That we can all be who we want to be.’’
I am upset, but I don’t want to let him see me upset. I don’t want him to think that he is able to get to me. he is able to get under my skin. I am happy and his words have no room inside my heart. The only thing I need in my life is positivity.
"What if he gives birth to a monster. what if this is all a mistake,’’ he breathes and for the first time, I see fear in his eyes. He doesn’t hate us and what we have become. He is just scared because he doesn’t understand it.
"And what if he gives birth to a beautiful baby. What if nothing bad happens? You can’t live your life in denial because of fear. You can’t push everyone away because you are scared. We are still your family. We still need you in our lives."
He looks down to his feet "I am afraid it is too late. I have shut Alanis down too many times, he has given up on me."
I smile "He is still your son. He will never give up on you. go and show him your fears. Talk to him. he will come around,’’
He sighs "I am a terrible father,’’ he mutters.
"You are not a terrible father. You are just very closed-minded.’’
He glares at me and I raise my hands in surrender. I didn’t expect the conversation to take this direction, frankly, I am glad he came here. I am glad we had this talk.
Not everyone will accept you for who you are, but the moment you see an opening, you always have to be grateful.
