Chapter 346: One more act of bravery

Blue

I don’t know what I am expecting from this.

I wanted to know why Levine was so miserable. I might have been so oblivious to a lot of things but I saw the sadness in her eyes every time she would smile at me. Growing up, my mother wasn’t present. She was there but I don’t have a single memory of her taking care of me. Levine was always there, she was the one that did everything for me. She was the one that helped me with my magic. I just thought that my mother was busy—I mean, she was the chief.

Now it all makes sense.

I see it all.

Their childhood.

The torment she had to go through having a sister like my mother. She tried to be there for her. All along, she was the one that made all the sacrifices. I can still feel Rex’s grip on me. The memories all come like flashes of light. They are so fast but I feel everything in my core. I feel her pain and she is not even alive. I feel her sadness. Almost like with each memory, I am going through it all, the more I see, the more I want to know. I don’t hate my mother, I can never hate her, because at the end of it all, she is still my mother but now, I know that the reason why I am even here on this earth is all thanks to Levine. I don’t know what to make of all this information.

After a lot, I finally pull away from the mind link and Rex is staring at me. The bathroom door opens and Gyles walks out with a towel wrapped around his waist. His eyes dart from mine to Rex. I am sure he is wondering what is going. Even with all that Rex has shown me, I still don’t know what to do. The biggest part of me wants to leave. I have been contending on that, whether I need to stay here and help the coven, or just abandon it completely like Levine wanted to. I am terrified that if I stay here, I will get stuck like she was. I don’t want to spend my better years in this place. The happiness I have found with my mates is everything to me.

Staying here is going to hinder my happiness.

"What is going on?’’ he asks confused as he slowly walks to the bed. He stands at the edge of the bed waiting for an answer.

"There is a slight hiccup,’’ I manage.

He sighs and then runs his hands through his wet hair. "We are still leaving, right?’’ he goes straight to the point. No beating around the bush. I wish I could tell him what he wants to right now but I don’t know if leaving is the best thing to do right now.

He watches me, I haven’t said anything but he can sense the hesitation in my eyes. "Fuck Blue, we had a deal,’’ he whines. I know, but I don’t know what to do.

"We are still leaving, I just need to sort some things out here,’’ I tell him honestly. Rex would handle this a lot better than Gyles. He just wants to leave, I don’t know if leaving is a good idea.

"You don’t need to sort anything out. You said you didn’t have any ties here. Why do you keep insisting on staying here? What is this fucking pull?’’ he questions but it sounds like an attack to me. There is no pull here. Maybe the thought that leaving will make me a coward, is the main thing that makes this so hard. I don’t want everyone to see me as the boy that abandoned the coven. I don’t know what is going to happen after we leave.

You don’t have to worry about that. These are not your people. You are more of a werewolf than a warlock.

My wolf informs me. It is safe to say that my wolf is pro me leaving. "Major is in trouble. He might need our help."

"Why does it have to be you? Why do you feel the need to save everyone?’’

He is upset and I get that but he isn’t even thinking about the things that Major has done for us. If it wasn’t for him, Rex would still be in trouble. How do I turn a blind eye when someone that helped me needs my help?

"You can’t be serious right now.’’

He crosses his arms over his chest "I am. I don’t like this place. The magic, the deceit, I don’t want to be here any longer." His tone is firm but at the end of the day, if I choose to stay. He can’t force me to leave.

"Then you should leave. This wouldn’t have happened if you had listened to me in the first place. I didn’t want you both to come here. You came on your own. Just go back to the community.’’

He opens his wide, I look away from him and Rex has the same shock on his face. I can’t explain it but I am upset. I am angry that I can’t do anything. No matter how hard I try, it just seems like I keep failing. Gyles is scared that if we stay here, something worse will happen to us. I don blame him. I was unable to protect Rex. I was unable to save Levine---especially after everything she had done for me.

"Maybe I will, I am sick and tired of you feeling the need to control everything.’’ He grabs his clothes from the chair and I watch him walk back to the bathroom. I face Rex again. he looks disappointed in me.

Yes, this is all my fault.

As it usually is.

"You are overwhelmed by what I just showed you,’’ he analyses. He is not right. What he showed me just proved how much of a coward I am? "You need to handle things a lot differently,’’ he continues.

I don’t know what he expects me to do.

I don’t even know what to do.

"You can’t save everyone.’’ He adds.

He is right but I don’t want to accept that just yet. I want to help Major. If that is the last thing I do in this place—then I want to be given a chance.

Chapter 347: Honesty

Gyles.

I am so pissed.

I close the door of the bathroom and the anger within intensifies. Blue never listens to me. He looks at me and he is always reminded of the things I did in the past. No matter how much I try to show him that I have changed, he never listens.

I take a deep breath as I rest my body weight on the sink. He promised me a day or two and now he is thinking about staying. I don’t want to leave this place without him. I don’t even think it is even possible. I mean, I will worry the whole time I am away from him. Rex is not as expressive as I am. He will never leave Blue here alone. He will not agree to leave with me—not like that is what I want. I just want to leave this place. Blue said he took the book but I have been having nightmares consecutively for the last two days.

Maybe my interest in the book is what caused it but I am so sure that once I leave this place, it will all stop. That is the main reason why I have been so aggressive about it. The more I stay here, the more it messes with my head. I am scared and I haven’t talked to Blue about him. I don’t want him to think that this is somehow my fault.

At the end of it all, most things that have happened have been because of me.

Once I am done changing, someone knocks on the door. I don’t want to face Blue right now. Especially since I behaved like a child. I didn’t mean to react that way but I was desperate. Desperate to get out of this place. I should have known that he would go for the whole, ’leave first and I will come back to you’ ruse.

"It’s me," I hear Rex’s voice, which makes me assume that Blue is no longer in the room. He opens the door without waiting for a response and I watch him walk over to me. His expression is calm, he doesn’t seem to see this as a problem. At the end of it all, I might just be the only one overreacting.

"We need to leave this place,’’ I tell him.

He nods "I know.’’

I sigh "Why are you not on my side. You need to find a way to convince him that this is the best thing to do right now. He is acting like he is doing this for Major but Major will be fine on his own. He has made it this far.’’

He nods again "I showed him what Levine wanted him to see,’’ he changes the topic.

"When I walked in?’’

"Yeah."

I didn’t see the memories but Rex told me what it was. Told me how terrible his mother was when she was alive. Maybe that is why he has so many conflicts. I might be loud and selfish but I am doing this for us. Staying here is a danger to all three of us.

Then talk to him. Do not keep your fears inside.

My wolf is the only rational part of me and most times, it is usually the other way around. I completely understand I know but at the end of it all, I just end up being insecure. I don’t want to disappoint him like I have been doing since I met him.

"Shit.’’

He nods again. Maybe if I confide in Rex, he can tell me what I can do to make this better. There is a reason why the book is still affecting me. Maybe it is because I used it. I didn’t even actually use it. I just got trapped in a situation that I couldn’t get out of.

"He needs us right now. He knows that the best thing for us is to leave. Blue is a very rational person. Just let him handle the loss he is facing in his own way."

"I don’t think I have enough time,’’ I breathe out. I haven’t told him anything but this feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

"What do you mean?’’ he asks.

"There’s this book of spell that Blue brought. He said it wasn’t a good book. I wasn’t supposed to touch it but I did and ever since I have been hearing voices in my head.’’

He furrows his brows, I continue "It is kind of a touchy subject because he warned me. I don’t know how to tell him that the book somehow found a way into my head. I don’t want to upset him. That is why we need to leave. The farther I am away from this place, the better it is.’’

He shakes his head "You cannot assume. You need to talk to Blue about this."

I know he is right but I wished he wasn’t. I just created a scene and now I have to go back to him and talk about this. I hate this so much.

"He is going to blame me for this. He is going to think I did something. He still doesn’t trust me. I am the problematic one in this relationship.’’ I am acting like a child right now, my insecurities are all coming out and this is because of Blue.

"You know you have to. Blue trusts you. If he didn’t, you wouldn’t be here with us. Just tell him what is going on. He is the only one that can help you."

He is right and I need to do this.

I walk out of the bathroom and Blue is not in his room. He left because of me. At the end of everything, I am the cause of all our problems.

"He went to check on Major,’’ Rex explains even though I didn’t ask. The door opens suddenly and he stops in front of it. I see the hesitation in his eyes. He doesn’t want to walk into a fight. Maybe that is all I do.

Fight and cause problems.

"I need to talk to you.’’

Chapter 348: Solution

Blue.

The second he starts to utter words out of his mouth, my heart races. I look at my hands and they are already shaking. He kept this from me for a couple of days. This is something that we should both be worried about. This is scarfing me because he is not supposed to resonate with magic. He doesn’t have it inside him. the fact that the book took a liking to him, terrifies me. makes me scared that there is more to do.

"I don’t want you to worry, that is why I didn’t tell you. I am sure that once we leave this place. it will all stop.’’ He mutters so casually. He doesn’t seem as worried as I feel right now. my mind is in a fog. There is so much going through my head and suddenly his fear for staying in the coven makes more sense.

He was pushing to leave because he didn’t want to cause any more problems.

I take a deep breath and run my hands through my hair, I don’t know how to fix this. I need to do something "We just have to leave this place and the book. You can even burn it or something,’’ he suggests casually as he grabs my hand. Burning the book will not make a difference. The fact that he looked into the pages, read a couple of the words must be why there is a pull when there shouldn’t be one.

"Pack your stuff, you and Rex. We’re leaving,’’ I manage because this seems like the only solution to this problem. I want to help Major, I wish I could but as I have always said. Gyles and Rex are my priorities. They are the only ones that matter. I need to figure out how to help him first.

He opens his eyes wide, probably shocked by my statement but he should know that I would only choose him. "Are you serious?’’

I nod.

"I need to go somewhere first but once I get back, I need you and Rex ready. Rex walks out of the bathroom and I face him "Get your stuff ready. We are going back to the community." He also expresses shock, just like Gyles did earlier. I know they didn’t expect me to just give in but I don’t know what else to do and I don’t want to make any more mistakes. I am tired of letting my mates suffer for things that I could have prevented. Rex has been through so much and I don’t want to add Gyles to the pile of shit.

"Where are you going?’’ Gyles asks because he always wants to know. I take a deep breath because he was honest with me today and he deserves my honesty. I think we all need to start being honest with each other. That is the only way that we can get through this relationship. We are all strong individuals. It is very hard to control each other and we need to talk through our feelings.

"I need to go and get the book back to its owner. I don’t need it anymore and if it is with Em, he will keep it safe,’’ I manage. Em was expecting me back, but I didn’t need to come back. I didn’t need to use the book. I don’t want to partake in the magic of darkness. From all I have seen, it doesn’t favor anyone.

There is no point in using a solution that has consequences and Gyles being involved in this mess is a consequence. I need to nip this in the bud. Make sure that the book stays with Em and very very far away from him.

"Can I come with?’’ he asks with a hopeful expression.

I shake my head "No, just stay here and pack up. can you do that for me?’’ I grab his hands in mine. he sighs but gives in with a nod "I will make sure he doesn’t leave,’’ Rex interjects. There is a smile on his face. I just think he is excited to finally be going back home. He has been away from the pack for a while. He hasn’t even hunted for meat. it must be taking a toll on him.

I wave my hand and he walks over to me "Just don’t open the doors for anyone. Stay in the room till I get back,’’ I manage.

I don’t even know what is happening in the coven. Badger is still in this house, walking around rooms like he didn’t just murder my whole family and he is getting away with it. I should care that I am giving him everything he wants by leaving but I don’t even have anything else to lose. The only people that I could lose are right in front of me. they are the only ones that need me and I need them too.

"I will be back,’’ I promise them like I have been doing every time I leave. I cannot be too sure about my promises because I don’t know what could happen but every time I make a promise to them, I use that as my force. The energy that makes me want to keep my promise. I know that at the back of my mind and in my heart, I will return to them.

I kiss Rex first and he holds me for a couple of seconds. His kiss is like fire to my soul. It heals my wounded heart. Gyles holds me, almost like he is clutching unto me. fear of losing me is stronger with him, like ice on a cold day. Determined to stay frozen.

They are my lifelines.

I walk out of the room and I hear the click of the door. They locked it, just like I asked. A smile sprawls on my face as I walk into the room that I kept the book. I pick it up from the drawer and walk out of the house and to my car. My phone rings immediately. I see a call from Major.

Major is the only one that was not brought in, which just means that he wasn’t caught. This means that my call helped him. which is good for now.

"Hello,’’ I manage.

"Fuck Blue. what do I do?’’ he asks me frantically.

"Where are you?’’ I ask him, walking over to my car.

"I don’t know. I just left. I don’t know where to go,’’ he tells me honestly.

My heart jolts, he needs me right now but I have a lot on my plate "Where are you?’’

He sighs "at a motel on the other side of town. I just wanted to lay low. I am all out of options.’’ He tells me, his voice shaking.

"Just send me an address. I will come to you in a couple of hours."

I put the book on the passenger seat as I end the call and take a deep breath. Major got out, so I can help him but right now, I need to return the book.

And then we need to get the hell out of this place.

Chapter 349: Fear and bravery

Blue

The drive to the trailer park is shorter than the last time I was here. Maybe all the worries are starting to kick in. I promised to meet up with Major. I don’t even know what I am going to do with him but I have to find a way to help him. I park the car and start the five-minute walk to Em’s trailer. Once in front of it, I clutch the book tightly, I want to just return it safe and sound. I don’t want any more added problems.

The door to his trailer opens and it almost seems like he was expecting me. looking at Em, I realize that he manages the magic well. It doesn’t seem like it is affecting him.

"I see you didn’t need it.’’ he manages.

I nod because I want to be away from this place as soon as possible "Yes sir, it looks like I didn’t.’’

A smile sprawls on his face as he steps down the three little steps and walks over to me. I push the book towards it and he collects it immediately "I want to say that is a good thing you didn’t, but it is not always a good thing. Ignoring the book has its consequences.’’ He explains.

Consequences that are somehow affecting my mate.

"What do I do,’’ I ask him with the hopes that he has a solution to this. it almost seems like he knows everything that is happening, even though I haven’t said anything to him.

He runs his fingers through the book "It only attracts people that are weak. As long as you remain strong. You will be fine,’’ he assures me.

Somehow, this is affecting Gyles. So does that mean that he is weak? I don’t want to stay in this place to find out. I am giving this back to Em, which just means that as long as the book is not with us. it can’t affect our lives.

"I don’t want to have to worry about that. I am leaving the coven,’’ I tell him.

His smile widens "Just like I did. It will be good for you. trust me.’’ he winks. I look at the life he is living and I don’t think I want that for myself. Maybe my life will turn out differently. I have two amazing people by my side and somehow, that should be enough.

"Thank you Em, for your help,’’ I manage because I want to leave this place and get back to my mates.

He nods his head and starts to walk up the stairs "If you ever need any help, come and find me.’’ he says with his back to me. I take a step away from him and walk back in the direction of the car.

My phone rings in my pocket and my heart stops for a second, for the fear that something else has happened. I see Jules’s picture on the screen and that panic subsides. "Hello,’’ I answer the call.

"I have been calling you,’’ I sense the worry in his voice.

"I am so sorry, a lot has been going on that’s why. I am leaving the coven tonight.’’ I tell him.

"Is your mother okay?’’ he asks.

I take a deep breath because he doesn’t even know what has happened to her. I suddenly realize that I haven’t been communicating with him since I got here. I don’t think this is something to tell him over the phone.

"Yeah, I am going to stop by your place before I head back to the community, is that fine?’’ I ask him even though I know that he is going to be excited about it. Jules will take any opportunity he gets to see me and spend time with me.

"Of course. Let me know when you are on your way,’’ he ends the call, just as I get back into my car.

I message major and he sends me the address he is staying at. I just want to make a quick stop. See him and figure out what he plans to do. I will support him completely but this is not a battle that I am even interested in fighting. All I care about are those guys that are waiting for me in my room.

I get to the motel and he answers on the first ring "I am outside,’’ I tell him.

It takes him less than five minutes to get to me and the second I see him, I pity him all over again. he just lost the woman that he loves and he is already on the run. He literally has nowhere to go.

He is all alone, which just makes me realize that I have it easy.

He runs his hands through his disheveled hair "Hey,’’ he tells me as he stops in front of me.

"How did you get away?’’ I ask him.

He sighs "I was lucky you called, but the rest of them weren’t. I used a spell."

I nod.

"What are you going to do now?’’

He shrugs "I don’t know.’’

I don’t know either but I at least have to offer to help him. "I am going back to the community with my mates. It is full of werewolves but I am sure they will have a place for you. You could work with the healers. Help the community, what do you say?’’

He raises a brow "A community full of werewolves? I don’t think so. I need to stay here. The war is just beginning and I need to stay and fight,’’ he tells me. he is a lot more courageous than me. I should be the one saying all this but I have never wanted to lead this place. he looks more like a good leader than I ever will be.

"How are you going to do this on your own?’’

He shrugs. I am so sure he has no idea but if there is anyone that can pull it off. It is Major. I hope the elders can see that he is more than Badger ever will be. I hope they don’t hurt the innocent for the mistakes of the wicked.

"I am so sorry that I am leaving,’’ I manage an apology even though it sounds half-assed. I am not sorry that I am leaving. I have wanted to leave this place since I got back.

He smiles "I know you are not but you have a life and you need to get back to it. I will be fine and if I end up dying, then maybe I will get to be with Levi again." he smiles dreamily.

I watch him and I am in awe of him. Yes, I am selfish, I am running away but this is a man that is brave. He is someone that will win.

I can feel it.

I just want to go home and protect my babies.

Chapter 350: Leaving

Gyles

We pack a couple of Blue’s things in a suitcase. I am just glad that telling him the truth is helping on my case to go home. I have been trying to convince him that we need to go home and all it took was a potential threat to me.

It just makes me know that he actually cares about me—not like I had any doubt before. Just some bits and pieces of uncertainty and they are all being erased by all his actions.

"I can’t believe we are going back to the community," Rex exclaims excitedly. He seems to be the happiest out of the three of us. I get that, I mean, the community is his home and I forced him out of his sanctuary. I made him come here and all the problems are because of me. I know that and even if he tries to convince me that this is not my fault. I have always known that it is. there is something about me that just attracts problems. It is almost like wherever I go or whatever I touch turns to drama. This is not something I want and I wish I could stop endangering everyone around me.

I don’t know how to.

"What do you think Blue would want from here,’’ he asks me as he rummages through his things. The fact that Blue left all these things in the first place just lets me know that he doesn’t care about them. he has never been one to care about material things. The clothes in his closet, the books, all the pictures in the albums. I grab the photo album from his table and Rex walks over to me.

"He doesn’t look happy,’’ he mutters as I turn the pages. He looks to be about ten in this picture. He is next to his mother. She has her arms around him. he is supposed to be smiling, this is supposed to be a happy moment but he looks like he is being smothered.

I turn the pages faster and the more pictures I see, the unhappier he seems.

"He wouldn’t want this,’’ I drop the book back on the table and walk over to the drawers. I find a couple of bracelets and a packet of cigarettes. I bring it out "Did you know he smokes?’’ I ask in confusion. I guess there are still a lot of things we need to find out about each other. It makes me realize that we haven’t explored each other to the fullest and I guess in life, we will never explore everything at once. The longer we spent together, the more things we will know about each other.

"It might not be for him,’’ he suggests but something tells me it is for him. I go away from the table and put a couple of more clothes in the box. After about thirty minutes of packing, the door opens and Blue walks in. my eyes go to his hand, I don’t know what I am looking for—maybe the book. I don’t even know why I will be looking for the book in the first place. from everything that has happened, I should have listened to him when he said the book was evil. I shouldn’t have been so focused on using it to help Rex. As he said, there is always a good way of doing things, we don’t have to settle for the darkness just because we are desperate.

"You’re back,’’ rex runs into his arms immediately. he smiles warmly as he embracing him deeply. I stand in the corner of the room, unsure if he wants me near him right now. he looks over Rex’s shoulders and his smile widens as he gestures for me to come over. it takes me less than a second to jolt over to him. I want to be close to him right now. Touching both of them is a feeling I cannot explain.

*****************************

Blue

The three of us embrace for God knows how long and I wish we could stay in that position for a whole but I know we need to leave. I don’t plan on saying goodbye. I don’t plan on talking to the elders about my decision. They are the ones that told me to leave if I wanted to. I don’t belong here and maybe it is a good thing that I have the opportunity to exit this place without any problems.

"Come on guys, we need to leave,’’ I tell them. I look around the room and I see my clothes sprawled in a box on the bed. do I even want to take them? I don’t want anything from this life but I also know that I might never be able to come back here. I should just take the stuff I need so I don’t have any regrets. I walk over to one of my drawers and open a box.

"We didn’t know if you wanted to take any of this stuff,’’ Gyles manages.

I open the box and the ring is still inside. The one that Levine gave me a couple of years ago. I never took any meaning to it but now that she is dead, I want one last memory of her. this will remind me of the person that she was. I will always remember how kind and caring she was. Through my growing up stages, whenever I felt alone, I would talk to her, she would always make me feel better.

The fact that she was always there for me is a memory that no one can take from me. one that I never want to forget.

I drop the box back in the drawer and walk over to the box on the bed, closing it up immediately "Let’s get out of here,’’ I tell them as I exhale a long breath. As we walk out of the house, I feel the sadness that I am leaving this life behind. Even though this is always what I wanted, it still hurts to say goodbye to the place I was once stuck in.

The home that never felt like home.
