Ch. 506..510: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 506-510
Chapter 506: My win at life
Darrien
My eyes stay on him as he holds unto the flask. He doesn’t want to drink it but I don’t know why.
"Baby, what is going on?’’ I ask him calmly because I expected this. Some kind of PTSD from what happened and it is completely understandable.
"I don’t know, I don’t want it. I don’t want to drink blood anymore,’’ he confesses with a soft exhale.
"Why not, you need it. This isn’t really about what you want right now.’’
He rolls his eyes and drops the flask on the bed "I am fine without it; I haven’t had any craving all day."
I nod "Yeah but eventually you will and you will go on a rage.’’
I have seen Jabi when he is blood thirsty, I mean that is what got us in this mess in the first place. He is not himself and until he is able to control his urges, he will need to keep drinking blood consistently.
I think on that for a bit and then I say:
"Baby you are not just a werewolf anymore. This is a part of you and you have to accept it.’’
He frowns and I see that he is conflicted but I don’t know what to say apart from what I have already said. I just need him to be fine.
"Can I just not have it right now?"
I nod immediately. "Yeah, there is no pressure. When you are ready again. it will be here."
He smiles faintly and I watch him as he sets the flask on the bedside table. He slides back to the side of the bed that I am on and stretches his hands out to me. I take him in my arms and he rests his head against my chest "I love you so much Dar,’’ he tells me softly.
I hug him close and I feel him relax against me as I whisper "I love you too, baby.’’ He buries his face in my neck and I can feel his tears against my skin as I hold him.
"I’m sorry ’’ he whispers.
"Don’t be. You haven’t done anything wrong.’’ I speak.
He looks up at me and manages a faint smile. The love I have for Jabi is unlike anything I have ever experienced and I will support him through anything he is dealing with and right now, this is a challenge for him.
After a couple of seconds in silence we decide to order room service. I go out of the room while Jabi is having a shower and stop by her room. She opens the door immediately, almost like she has been waiting for me. She manages a faint smile as I walk into the room.
"Have you had anything to eat?" I ask her calmly.
She nods her head immediately and I see the tray on the bedside table. There is a bowl of soup and some toast.
"Bacon and eggs. Oh, and coffee.’’
I smile faintly. "Thank you for this.’’
She waves her hand and I sit down on the chair next to the bed. She walks to the other side of the bed "What is your name?’’ I ask her.
"Liza,’’ she tells me immediately.
"Do you remember all the things Lenny did to you; do you remember anything at all?’’ she asks me calmly.
She shakes her head "I remember the boy in the room. I remember giving him food but everything else is in bits and pieces."
I smile because I am glad that she doesn’t remember the things he did. I can only imagine what he must have done to her. "I am sorry, I know it must have been hard for you.’’
She nods and we sit in silence for a while. I know what he did to her and unlike Jabi, I do not see a reason why this should be her fault.
She sighs and then she pauses.
"How did Lenny die?’’ she asks me quietly which makes me realize that she knew what happened to him in that room.
"I don’t think you want to know.’’ I tell her softly.
She nods and then she tells me "About a week before I met him. I was supposed to start college. I had my life mapped out; fuck I don’t even know who I am anymore. I don’t know what he did to me." she covers her hands in her face.
"Just be glad to be okay now.’’ I tell her and I mean it.
She nods "Thank you.’’
I stand up from the chair and I look at her "You are welcome.’’ I smile at her as she looks up at me. "You are going to be okay; I promise you.’’ I tell her.
She manages a faint smile and I walk out of her room.
On my way back to my room just as Jabi comes out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. He smiles at me as I walk over to him.
"You can’t stay away from me can you’’ he tells me.
"No, I can’t I am so sorry.’’
He withdraws the towel from his waist and then he looks at me "Can you let me look at you?’’
I smile at him "Why?’’
He grins "Just because.’’ "Oh, is that a bad thing?’’
"No, not at all,’’ he tells me playfully. He leans down and kisses me. His lips linger against mine as he whispers "I am so happy that you are here with me.’’
I smile softly against his lips and I kiss him back tentatively.
"I missed you so much Dar and I am so glad that you are back with me.’’ he tells me softly.
I kiss him again and he wraps his arms around my waist as I lean into him.
"I missed you so much too.’’ I whisper into his lips.
I hold him closer as I kiss and I am glad that he is here with me.
I am glad for the life I have.
Jabi is my win at life.
Chapter 507: The tough decisions
Darrien
I gather up all our things and we head out to the airport. There has been something going on in my mind. I have been thinking about the next step in our life, concerning Jabi’s safety. I thought it was a good idea to give him freedom, I thought having the time to figure out who he is, was the best idea but now I am not so sure. Knowing how valuable his blood is, scares me.
I don’t want word to get out.
If more vampires find out, it could be dangerous for him. I don’t want to have to keep him hidden for the rest of his life but I also want to make sure that he is safe. I think the community is the best place to make sure of that. I think we need to go back to the community and form a life there.
Our family is there, the people that would do anything for us. I know that he will be safe in the confinement of the walls. I want him to be happy and I know he likes the space we created for each other in the apartment but I also need to think strategically. I have to be an alpha. I have to decide on what is best for him and it seems to me like this might be the best thing for the both of us.
I don’t want to have to look over our shoulders for the rest of our lives. I don’t want to panic and worry that someone could be out to get him. Someone could want his blood.
It scares me to think about what could have happened if Lenny actually won. If Jabi was unable to fight. I might have never found him and I know that he can protect himself. Every time he has been in a difficult situation, he has always come out of it stronger but at the end of the day, he is still my responsibility.
I still need to protect him.
I still need to keep him hidden but I want to make sure that I do it the best way possible. I don’t want to be too strict but I also don’t want to be too lenient. Jabi listens to me, he is not so stubborn. It will be easy to convince him, I have thought about it for a while now and I know that this is the best thing to do for us.
We get to the airport with Liza. she has been very quiet.
She keeps her guard up, I know she doesn’t trust me completely and I can’t blame her, especially after everything that happened to her with Lenny. The good thing about everything is that she remembers everything about her past. She knows her family; she knows where to go. So, I wouldn’t have to look for them.
"Come on,’’ I grab Jabi’s hand in mine and he smiles warmly in a way that makes my heart thud heavily. He looks at me with a genuine smile on his face. I can tell that he is happy to leave this island.
Fuck I need to get him home because I need him in a safe space. Liza seems to understand that because she walks beside us. We board the plane and I sit down on the seat next to Jabi.
Liza is at the back of us.
I am warm, I feel safe. I have him so close to me. I can see his eyes in the light from the window. He is still smiling at me and I feel like everything is going to be ok.
I know that I still have a lot to learn but I am confident about my future. I have always been confident. It is one of the reasons why I am so arrogant.
I know that I will protect him the best way possible.
"We’re going home,’’ he breathes into my ear with excitement.
I know this is the best time to tell him about the community but I feel like he might not take it too well.
"I can’t wait to be on our bed again. I can’t wait to be in the apartment. I missed it all so much.’’ He looks at me with a smile in his eyes.
He loves it there. We made it our home.
I bring his hand to my face and kiss his knuckles softly. He does the same to mine.
I hate to say this to him but I need to tell him how I am feeling about the whole thing. I don’t want to keep this from him. I don’t want to just throw it out to him when we get back.
"What’s wrong?’’ he asks noticing my silence.
"I think it’s time that I tell you something,’’ I say carefully. I take a deep breath because I don’t like the worried look on his face.
"What’s wrong?’’ he asks calmly.
"I want us to move back to the community.’’ I go straight to the point, hit the nail on the head. There is no point in dilly-dallying.
He looks at me like I am crazy.
"What?’’ he asks confused.
"I think that we should move back to the community,’’ I say calmly.
"Why?’’
he asks.
"Because it is safe in there and we don’t have to worry about other vampires finding out about you, about your blood. I need to make sure we don’t have to worry about that.’’
he sighs, slowly letting go of my hand "So basically keep me hidden forever?’’ he asks.
"No, not forever.’’ "How long?’’
"I don’t know. I need to figure it out. I need to find out what is the best thing for us.’’
Jabi falls quiet for a second. It is evident that he is not completely sold on the idea. I know he likes the space we are in. Our private life but at the end of the day, it is not practical.
"Okay,’’ he says finally even though I can tell he is not okay with it.
I see the dejection in his eyes.
He is not happy about this.
But what can I do?
Chapter 508: Compromises
Jabi
I don’t know how I feel about this.
I want to just nod and say okay but somehow a part of me feels like I shouldn’t agree to this.
My wolf is okay with this decision. He seems to have a mind of his own and somehow my own opinions are not valid.
Darrien is panicking.
I know him. I know he is worried and his worries are accepted. He has been through so much to find me and I know he doesn’t want a repeat of what happened with Lenny. I know he is not doing this to be controlling. He is doing this from a place of love. Darrien is the reason why we weren’t even in the community in the first place. I knew he didn’t feel at home there and so I made the decision to leave with him. Which just makes me know that this is not because of me. He is doing this for me and that is the only reason why I said okay even though I am not okay with it.
"Okay?’’ he asks me as he looks at me.
"Yeah,’’ I reply.
"Are you sure? you just agreed so quickly.’’
he says.
"Yes,’’ I say.
"You are sure you are ok with this?’’
"Yes,’’ I say and kiss him on the lips.
"I love you,’’ he says as he grabs me and kisses me back.
"I love you too.’’
There is still hesitation in his eyes but there are no other questions. I lie back on the seat and close my eyes.
Darrien is my home.
Wherever he is will be home to me but I don’t want him to worry, I don’t want to be hidden in the shadows anymore. I need to do what is right for me. I need to be in the light. That is the only way that I can move forward. It is the only way that I can be happy.
I need to be free.
********************
Darrien parks his car in the community, the girl is still with us. He rests his hands on the steering wheel and turns to me slowly "Let’s get you to the house,’’ he smiles at me. His smile is warm and compassionate, it makes my heart feel warm and the heaviness in my chest is lifted at the feeling. I look back at him with a slight nod.
"I will be back to take you home,’’ he turns to her and explains.
"Okay,’’ she says staring straight ahead.
"Wait here,’’ he says with a gentle smile.
"Okay,’’ she replies.
Darrien exits the car and runs over to my side. I watch him as he opens the door for me and it brings a smile to my face. he looks back at me and offers me his hand. I grab it and put my foot on the ground and he guides me out of the car. I look back at the girl in the seat. She smiles at me with a wave and I do the same, my way of saying goodbye to her. Saying goodbye to that part of my life. Darrien sets me down and I feel my feet on the ground and I look up at him with a smile.
"Come on,’’ he says taking my hand.
Darrien leads me to the house and I feel the warmth of his hand on mine. He has a gentle touch to him even though he is strong. I walk as he guides me inside. He opens the door and I feel myself smile watching him do this. I follow him inside the house and feel the sting of tears behind my eyes. I feel a hug coming from behind me and I turn to see Darrien. He pulls me into his arms and I feel the warm sensation of his embrace as my fear subsides. I feel the warmth of his chest on top of me and I feel at ease.
"It will be fine,’’ he says as he leads me to the couch.
"I know it will be,’’ I say as I release my grip on him.
"Should I get Rex to come and stay with you? I don’t know if I want you alone right now,’’ he mutters quietly.
"Alright,’’ I agree immediately because I need to listen to him more. I need to trust his instincts and if he doesn’t want me alone, then I will do what he wants.
He grabs his phone from his pocket and I watch him dial a number--presumably Rex. He speaks softly into the phone for a long time before he walks back to me. He sits next to me on the couch and I look up at him.
"Rex is on his way," he manages.
I don’t want to tell him that if anything were to happen with Rex with me, it would be the same situation.
I simply nod and look back at my hands. He takes the spot next to me and puts his hand on my knee. I look at him and he looks back at me with a smile. "You are so adorable.’’ he chuckles as he looks up at me.
"I like it when you say I am adorable.’’ I laugh softly.
"But you are more than that. You are more than anyone I have ever known.’’ he continues.
"You are everything.’’
I am speechless and lucky enough, a knock on the door helps me from having to say something to that. Darrien has a way with words, he has found a way into my heart. Darrien walks to the door and opens it. It is Rex. Darrien smiles at Rex as he walks over to me.
"You’re alive,’’ he jokes.
"I guess I am.’’
We have had too many near-death experiences in our lives. The mere fact that we keep surviving each and everyone is a miracle.
"I got to go, baby,’’ Darrien ruffles my hair and leans in for a kiss. I watch him leave just as Rex sits down on the other couch.
Great.
Chapter 509: Second thoughts
Jabi
"You did it all on your own?’’ Rex asks me with shock written on his face.
I shrug my shoulders in response because it is not a big deal but there is this look on his face that tells me he is impressed.
"You know, that night that we were attacked by the vampires, I saw it in you. I knew you could fight your own battles." He smiles at me and I watch him as he rests his back on the couch.
He is here to make sure nothing happens to me but I don’t think there is any need for that.
"Thanks, I guess."
I look away from him and to the door, he has been gone for a couple of hours and I have been the worst host. I don’t actually want to talk about everything that happened with Lenny and the island. I want it to be a thing of the past but somehow, rex’s mission is to keep talking about it and reminding me of all the violating things he did to me.
He wants to know how I was able to survive, he wants the nitty-gritty details of everything that happened and it is making me upset.
"What’s in a hybrids blood?" he asks me.
I furrow my brows. I know that Rex is mated to a hybrid which just means that he is probably curious about it because of Gyles.
I get that but I don’t want to talk about it.
"Can we talk about something else please?’’ I ask him.
He sits up on the chair and sighs in his usual sarcastic way.
"Fine, we can talk about something else. What do you want to talk about?’’ he smiles faintly. I can tell he wants to know more about the situation but I am at least glad that he is letting it go.
"Do you think it is a good idea to move back to the community?’’ I ask him because I am still not sure if it was a good idea to agree to the decision of moving.
He furrows his brows "You’re moving back here?’’
I shrug "I guess, Darrien wants me safe.’’
He nods his head in agreement "I guess he has a point. I mean you could have died. I know how he feels.’’
I sigh because this is not what I want to hear. "I don’t want to be here,’’ I confess because it has been eating at me since Darrien brought it up today.
"Do you hate this place that much?’’ he asks me quietly.
I shake my head because hate is such a strong word but when I think about the community. I think about the place where my parents were murdered. I think about the place that abandoned me because of who I was. I don’t think about safety and protection.
I don’t know why he can’t see that.
I know he is scared but he just decided and didn’t even think to ask. I couldn’t say no because he didn’t give me the chance to say no and I didn’t want to upset him. "I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be rude but I don’t feel like this place is home to me. I have never felt that way.’’
He nods in understanding "This is the typical omega feeling. I know how you feel.’’
I scoff because he doesn’t know how I feel. He will never know how I feel because he always had Beau. I was the outcast. The one that Beau had to sneak food too. The one that was condemned to suffering.
"You don’t know how I feel,’’ I roll my eyes and look away from him because I don’t actually want to rehash all the bad things that have happened to me. I don’t want to remember all the cold nights, alone, sad because I thought I would never be loved.
Darrien came into my life and in a couple of meetings, he showed me the kind of love I didn’t think I deserved. I don’t need anyone else but him.
"Because I lived with Beau?" he asks me calmly, not even taking any offense to my snapping.
"Yes, you had a family. He took care of you.’’
He smiles "He took care of you too,’’ he points out.
"He had to sneak food to me all the time, they didn’t let me go hunting with you guys. It wasn’t the same."
"Do you know all the things I went through? You can’t blame it on the community. Blame it on the older ones, Fallon did a lot of damage when he was in control with Rick. It is not the same, I think you need to let it go. Things are not the same anymore."
I shake my head because not only does he not understand but I can’t even explain it to him because I don’t understand it. I cannot and will not rehash all the things that happened because they are all in the past.
"I don’t want to be here; I don’t want to.’’ I finalize and he looks at me and I see the defeat in his eyes.
"Then talk to Darrien, don’t just keep it all inside you because it will come out and when it does, it might not be pretty."
"I know. I know I need to tell him but I font know how to. I just got back to him and I don’t want to mess that up.’’
"I just have one thing to say to you, no matter what you do, Darrien will still love you. So why not ease up on the guilt and be a good mate to him. Just talk to him and maybe you can compromise."
He is right but I know that I am too weak to just listen to him.
I don’t know how long I can stay in the community before he figures it out. I don’t know if I want to come back to the place that turned its back on me.
Chapter 510: Hurtful words
Jabi
Darrien gets back to the house hours later. My conversation with Rex has been feeling like a wake-up call. Maybe he is right and maybe I have been acting like a child. I have all these worries running through my head and I am acting like I am okay.
I told him I was fine with moving back to the community and I have all these resentments swarming my mind. I say things like I want to change, I want to be open with him so that I don’t have any regrets but at the end of the day, I keep things from him. I lie to him about how I feel.
He looks up at me as he walks in through the door. Rex stands up immediately. There really is nothing to do in the cabin. There’s no tv, no internet. We have been sitting in this awkward silence after our conversation.
"Thanks for showing up man,’’ Darrien tells him calmly. I watch them as they walk out of the cabin together.
I remain seated on the couch because I feel like crap. I need to talk to him about all the things that I am feeling and I don’t know how to.
I don’t know how to tell him that this is not what I want. I don’t want to be cooped up in the community for the rest of my life.
I don’t want to be selfish and I know that I am acting really selfish right now but for the first time in my life, because of Darrien, I can speak up, I can feel and want things. Things that I never would have thought possible until he came into my life.
He saved me and he doesn’t even know that.
The door opens again and his smile widens as he walks over to me. I watch him as he stops in front of me and goes on his knees. Now he looks up at me and my heart dances to the rhythm that only he brings.
"Hi,’’ he mutters dreamily as he rests his head on my knees.
I watch him as he closes his eyes and my hand finds its way to his hair, slowly caressing it.
"It’s done. she is back home. Can you imagine that she has been missing for two years? Like that bastard took her away, for two fucking years."
He raises his head up and looks at me "Thank God, I found you. I wouldn’t have been able to survive otherwise,’’ he stares at me intently. He is being open and vulnerable right now. That’s the thing, Darrien is always open with me and I am keeping this from him.
"I don’t want to stay in the community,’’ I blurt out finally.
It feels like a weight is being lifted off my chest. even though there is a confused and hurt expression on his face right now. I feel better because I told him the truth.
"What? why?’’ he asks me immediately.
I watch him as he sits up on the floor, he is no longer resting on me. I mean, this is a serious conversation. It is not like he is upset with me.
Right?
"I don’t want this to be our forever home. It is not mine,’’ I confess.
"You grew up here, technically, it is your home. No matter what.’’
Okay, he is not taking this well. From the tone of his voice and maybe this is all my fault. I mean, I should have told him earlier. He mentioned it before and I acted like I was okay with it when I wasn’t, so what am I expecting now.
"You are my home; the apartment is my home. I don’t want to be back here permanently."
He sighs and then runs his hands through his hair "I never said this was permanent. I just need to figure out what we are going to do about this hybrid blood situation.’’
"I am not a situation, I don’t want to hide, just because of who I am.’’
"I am not asking you to hide, I just need time.’’
"Time for what?" I ask him.
He sighs again. I can tell he doesn’t like this conversation but it is not my fault. I am being honest now because I need him to know how I feel.
"Time to know how to protect you. I can’t go through another Lenny situation again and if we are out there, there will be more."
"I can protect myself. I am sure of that.’’
He stares at me in disbelief, I don’t even know what has come over me. I am acting like a jerk right now.
I didn’t choose this.
I never asked to be a hybrid.
I didn’t ask for any of this.
So why is this happening?
"What are you doing Jabi?’’ he asks me.
I look at him and then I get up off the couch. He follows me to the room "I am being honest. this is how I feel?’’
He frowns still holding my arm in his "so you regret it all, is that what you are saying right now?’’
This is not where I saw this conversation going and I don’t even know how it got twisted around but now I don’t know how to get back from it.
Shit.
"That’s not what I meant; you know I will never regret us. I love you so much.’’
"You’re not acting like you do right now.’’
I take a deep breath because I don’t want to say another wrong thing. I have already messed things up.
I don’t want to make it worse.
"I love you,’’ I repeat, moving closer to him.
He sighs again and I don’t know how to convince him. This is the first time we have ever had this kind of fight and I need to find the right words to make this right.
He is the one person that I can’t stand to lose.
He is my life.
How do I fix this?
