Chapter 546-chapter will update soon

Chapter 547: The coven

Blue

I am strong.

I am going to get what I want. I want to get rid of Analise. I want to never have to set foot in the coven again.

It can happen because I am strong.

My magic is inside of me and I don’t need any other witch. I am a warlock, one that can do anything.

These are all words that I thought would be comforting but it is the exact opposite. It makes me feel weaker than I am. It makes me feel like I am going to fail.

Gyles and Rex a looking up to me.

I have to make sure that I come out of whatever I am going into. If Analise I is really Badger like everyone seems to think, then I should be able to tell.

Right?

You are scared.

My wolf tells me calmly.

I know I am scared and I have never denied that but I don’t need my wolf reminding me of the obvious. I just wish I had a plan. A reason why I am back. The closer I get to the coven, the faster my heart throbs against my chest. I am nervous as hell. I never wanted to come back here again but now I have to.

I have no choice.

My phone rings and I see a Gyles face as it springs up on the screen. I don’t know why he is calling but I answer immediately.

"Hi baby,’ he breathes into the phone. It is already midnight. Maybe this is not such a good time to be going back. I should have waited till the morning.

"I just wanted to be company through the car ride,’’ he breathes into the phone and I smile on reflex because that is what he is making me do. Feel this sort of giddy excitement that I cannot contain.

"Oh, that is sweet of you. Is Rex sleeping?’’

"No, he is in the shower. I can tell he is worried but he is doing a good job at hiding it.’’

I shake the guilt out of my head because I have made it a mission to always keep the worry away from the two of them. I don’t ever want to be the reason for their pain, sadness. The only thing I want to do is make them happy.

It might be a while before I can fully focus on them and our relationship but when that time comes, that will be my focus.

"I am worried too,’’ Gyles adds quietly. It sounds like this is not something he wants to be confessing but I am grateful that he is.

’I will be fine,’’ I assure him because I am going to try my hardest to make sure that am.

’I know, I just hate the unknown and this feels like it. I don’t know what is waiting for you in that place. She might already know that you are coming.’’

I nod because he is right. I can’t put it past my mother. She is good at being evil--that is something I have come to realize and this might be expected. She might be expecting me and if she is, I will do my best to hide my intentions.

"She wouldn’t hurt me, I am sure of that."

He sighs "She could, but I just don’t want anything to happen to you. I would never forgive myself.’’

He is beating himself up over this and I blame myself. I have made him think that I can’t protect myself. He is losing his faith in me because of the way I have been acting.

I have to do better.

I have to be better.

"I got this G, I don’t want you to worry about anything. We are going to fix this. We are going to make things right."

He lets out a heavy breath and I can almost imagine the smile on his face "I called to distract you, I didn’t call to worry you. Shit, I suck at this,’’ he exclaims.

"You are doing great.’’

My words are sincere, this conversation has helped me a lot. I know what I need to do. I know that I need to be stronger.

"Are you almost there?’’

I can sense the anticipation in his voice.

"Yeah, I can see the gate from where I am,’’ I answer him as I increase my speed until am I am in front of the gate.

"Oh, call me when you settle in. If I don’t hear from you, I will come over there immediately."

I chuckle because I know that it is something that he will do. Gyles is temperamental and rash and it is good most of the time.

"I will call you guys, please take care until I call.’’

I stop the car in front of the gate just as I end the call and the security guard by the gate walks out of the little gatehouse and comes over to me instantly. This is a different person. I wasn’t expecting someone that I would recognize.

I know that things would have changed here but someone that knows me would have made this easier.

He is dressed in a pair of casual black jeans and a white shirt with a black belt on it. He looks like he has been in a few fights in his life. He looks a little scruffy but not a lot. His black hair is slightly longer.

I roll my window down as he peers into the car "Can I help you?’’

I take a deep breath as I think about what I am going to say. I know how this looks. It is late at night and I am basically a stranger in a place that was once my home.

"I am here to see someone. Just tell him who I am and he will know."

I watch him as I wait for a reaction but his expression is blank and his stare is cold.

"Who is this person?’’ he asks finally.

His voice is deep, he seems like the best person to keep at the gate. I don’t even want to have any issues with him.

"Badger."

"Wait here,’’ he tells me and I watch him as he walks away from me and back to his little security house.

I wait for him as he grabs the phone by the table. I know he is calling him, this is all a determining factor on whether I would be let it.

He gets back after a couple of minutes "You’re free to go in. He said you know where to find him.’’

He presses a remote control and the gate opens.

Here goes nothing.

Chapter 548: His name

Gyles

I have been pacing back and forth, uncontrollably. I am worried sick even though I haven’t heard anything from him. It has been an hour. A whole hour without a word from him and he said he was going to call immediately he settled in. That just means he hasn’t settled in.

What could be keeping him?

"You have to sit down,’’ Rex urges me calmly.

He is trying to act calm but I can tell he is not. There is nothing tough about Rex. Out of the three of us, he is an open book.

I can tell how he is feeling just by looking at him and right now, he looks like he is about to break. Rex puts his hand on my shoulder and guides me into the armchair in the room. I sit down on it and look up to him.

"He hasn’t called. He said he was going to call when he got settled. Do you think something has happened?’’

I am rambling.

I am scared shitless.

"He is fine."

I nod even though I am not so sure.

"How can you tell?’’

He smiles "I can feel him and if you just listen to your heart, you will feel him too."

I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I can feel him, I know that he is not hurt but there is still this uncertainty lingering and I don’t know how to stop it. Maybe it is the guilt messing with my head. After all, the only reason we are back here is because of me. If I didn’t push him, we would have been safe in the coven with nothing to worry about.

"This is not your fault," I open my eyes and Eleanor is in the room. She is watching me with a warm stare, somehow, it just builds my trust in her. She keeps showing up unannounced, which makes me think that this will be the new dynamic.

"You’re here again,’’ I mutter quietly.

Rex follows my eyes but he doesn’t question it. The fact that he can see me talking to someone that he can’t see and he is not looking at me like I am crazy, just makes me feel better about the whole situation.

"Yes, you are doing that thing where you beat yourself up for nothing,’’ she smiles as she walks closer to me.

"I am not beating myself up, I am worried."

She nods "Because he hasn’t called?’’

I nod.

"He is going to call. Just don’t panic and everything will be okay."

She is talking like she knows me, like she knows anything that is happening. We are actually here because of her. Here to help her, here to set her free, so everything that happens will be dependent on her freedom. So in a way, she needs us to stay alive to set her free.

"Why are you here?"

She struts over to the bed and I watch her as she takes a seat on it. Rex is still in front of me but he is quiet.

"I wish you could see her, I wish this wasn’t just me."

He smiles "I can go my whole life not seeing ghosts, this is your thing. I am fine with it,’’ he winks over his glasses and I can’t help but smile at him "You got this babe,’’ he ruffles my hair playfully and I watch him walk over to the other side of the bed. He sits down on the bed and rests his head on the headboard with his laptop.

I turn back to Eleanor, she is still watching me "I never thought there would be a time where I would see someone look at two people with so much love. How is it even possible?"

There is admiration in her eyes.

"I don’t know, I just know that I love them both, equally.’’

Eleanor smiles "I had that kind of love once the kind that you have, it seems like such a long time ago.’’

I wait for her to continue because it seems like she remembers something from her past, the life she lived before it was taken from her.

"His name was....’’ she pauses and looks away from me, her eyes find me again and this time, there are tears in them "His name was...’’ she repeats again, there is confusion plastered all over her face.

She stands up from the bed and walks over to the window. Her back is turned to me "I can’t remember his name, why can’t I remember his name?’’

She is asking a rhetorical question, there is pain etched in her voice. The kind of pain that I can’t ease. Slowly she turns to me "He is a memory that is lost. I need to find him.’’

I walk over to her "I will help you, you will have your peace after all this is settled."

I am basically promising her this.

Something that I am not certain of but I will try my possible best to make sure of it. I will set her free from this hell that she has been through. The sad expression on her face turns to a smile "I am glad the book chose you, Gyles, it could have been no one else.’’

She reaches for me and for a second, I wonder if I will be able to feel her. Her palm rests on my face and in a second, I feel her touch.

I feel her pain, sadness and gratitude.

My phone vibrates on the bed and I turn to it immediately. It is bright and ringing, from where I am standing, I see Blue’s face on the screen.

He is calling.

I run over to it and Rex looks up immediately. My heart is racing, this is a good thing. He is calling which means he is fine.

I pick up the phone as I hold my breath, waiting to hear his voice.

"Hello.’’

Chapter 549: Good lies

Blue

I drive until I get to the main house.

It is the same as it has always been. Yeah, I don’t know what I was expecting, it is not like it has been years since I was last here. The place couldn’t have changed that badly.

Badger said I should come to him and I don’t know why I am here. Like all my mind just lets out all its resolve. He is my mother, which just means that he has taken over her life.

I can’t help but give it to her.

She did this all so well, I would have never known. No one would have found out if it wasn’t for the book.

I park my car in the parking lot and I see him in front of the entrance door of the house. There is a light on over his head so I can see the smile on his face clearly.

I watch him for a couple of seconds as he waits for me to come outside. I know I should go out and meet him. This is all so weird to me, I am looking at Badger, my mother’s best friend but I know that he is not the one. He died a while ago and no one even knew. He was never mourned.

This is all bullshit and now I have to pretend like I don’t know anything. That is the only way I would be welcomed here.

After a couple of seconds and the staring contest, I get that from the car and walk over to the house.

Badger takes a step forward and I see him clearly "Why are you here?’’ he asks immediately.

To kill you.

I keep that in my mind as I manage a smile "I want to come back home.’’

That is a lie. This place will never be a home to me but I need him to think that. I need him to believe this lie because I need to come back and fix things. I need to eliminate her once and for all.

"At twelve in the night, why does it look so suspicious?’’

He keeps asking me questions, almost like he knows something that I don’t. "I am tired of running away. I am tired of denying who I am. I thought for my mothers’ sake, you would give me another chance.’’

He raises a brow.

I look into his eyes, in search of a sign. Anything that will show me who he really is but just like the magic she used, I can’t sense anything. My willed sense is not working. Which just fuels the insecurities inside me. The one where I think that I am not good enough. My magic is not strong enough.

"Where are your so-called mates? Why are they not here with you?"

He is saying all the wonders in his mind out loud. I try to keep my poker face. I need him to believe me.

"They are with me, I thought I could make this a home for the three of us."

Lies, lies, lies.

"I am the new chief, I am sure you already know that."

I nod.

I raise my hands up in the air "I am not here to take over. I just want to come back home.’’

He laughs "You know you have never considered this place your home, so who are you lying to right now."

I "I am not lying to you, I just want to come back to my home." He turns his head to one side as he looks at me. I look back at him. This just makes me confirm all my suspicions. My mother was the only one that knew how much I hated this place. She never wanted anyone to know.

This was a thing of pride.

Her only son, hating magic and everything that came with it.

"Things have changed.’’

He looks up at me and his gaze is strong and intense, almost like he is looking into my soul.

"Something about you is different. You smell more like a wolf. Why is it so strong?’’

I don’t want to tell her that I completed my mating ritual. That I am tethered to the Lycan world but I also don’t want to keep it from her. I want her to think that I am honest and really back.

"I have always been a wolf, you’ve always known."

"Am I supposed to believe all this, do you think I am that stupid.’’

I take a deep breath, I am not winning this conversation. She is on to me and I have to find a way out of this hole that I have dug for myself.

’I have no reason to lie to you. I am back because this is the place that I belong. I tried staying with my mates in a pack but couldn’t be me, I didn’t belong there. I want to learn my potential, my magic and this is the only place that I know how to.’’

He is watching me as confess to my lies. There is an element of truth in what I am saying. I do want to perfect my magic, I do want to be a better warlock but this coven will never be home to me.

Not in a million years.

"Are you telling me that you deserted your pack with your mates?’’

I nod.

Another lie.

I am on a fucking roll tonight.

A slow smile spreads on his face. The kind of evil smile that makes my skin crawls. There is pleasure in his eyes from my words. I am sick to my stomach right now but I have to act like I am not. I have to stay strong for Gyles. I need to do this so that we can be free.

"Why don’t you come inside, and we can talk more on this son.’’

I freeze at his words.

Son.

Badger has called me that before. So many times but now I can’t help but see her face.

I can’t help but be scared at this moment.

Chapter 550: Keep the enemy close

Blue

It is almost two in the morning. I am fucking exhausted right now but I have to keep this smile on my face because that is the only way to keep the facade that I have brought with me.

"The elders are going to need some convincing.’’

He is trying to justify why there is hesitation in his eyes. He wants me to be indebted to him.

He wants me to think that he is doing me a favor.

I am just here to find the room. To make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone again. He can’t tell, so that is a good thing. We are in the living room of the house. He is seated on the same chair that my mother used to sit on. I haven’t really confirmed that she is the one but I feel things. They are subtle, some things that she would do, I can see little traits and maybe it is in my head, maybe deep down, I want her to be alive.

I need closure, I need to tell her all the things on my mind.

This is the closure I need and a part of me is excited that I might get it.

I want her to suffer. I want her to feel all the pain she has caused everyone and maybe that is cruel of me but that is the place that I am at.

"If there is anyone that can convince them, it is you."

When I was younger, I used to think that the elders had control over the coven. They were the ones that always made the final decisions.

He scoffs "You have to be the one to convince them. I do not have the power to do that’’

She is testing me and I am not going to fail. I am not going to let her even think that I know what is going on.

"How do I do that?’’ I ask him innocently.

He stands up from the chair and walks over to mine. I watch him as he sits down on the couch next to me. That sick smile is still on his face.

"I will set up a meeting with them tomorrow, all you have to do is show up and tell them all the things you told me today. I will get them to see your side of things. Analise was an important person to the coven, you are her son. You were never really going to be banished."

Oh, I wouldn’t say that I was banished. I left this hell hole on my own but I wouldn’t tell her that out loud.

Your mother is a bitch.

My wolf growls to me.

I have always known that she was but I have always given her excuses. Reasons why she is the way that she is. Now, I can’t even do that anymore because I know all the things that she has done and they are not justifiable.

She is a mobster and she needs to go.

"Okay, I can do that. Thank you for this opportunity. I hated that I left the way I did. I should have never done that in the first place."

"You thought you were special but you are just like everyone else here."

That should sting but it doesn’t.

I know that I am special, I know that I am better than she would ever be and these are the kind of words that she would use to hurt me in the past but not anymore.

I am not going to fall for her hate.

Her jealousy.

She is all alone, plotting and scheming. I have two amazing people that love me. I have everything I could ever ask for.

I am fucking special, even though she didn’t see it.

"I know that now, it took leaving to get to this point and it will never happen again. I am sorry for everything.’’

He reaches for me and rests his hand on my shoulder. It is supposed to be comforting but it is nauseating.

"I have always thought of you as a son. Analise would have wanted me to take care of you and that is why I am even having this discussion with you."

I watch him as he continues "I will do all the things she wanted for me. I will act as the father that you never had."

I have a father.

Anger seethes into me. I can feel it boiling up inside me. I don’t want her to ever talk about my father. He has done more for me in these past months than she ever has all her life.

"Thank you.’’

He stands up from the couch and over me "I need to go to bed but your room is as it has been, I made sure not to clear it out."

Oh, because you always knew that I would come back?

"Thank you," I repeat.

He nods "Get some rest and I will come and find you tomorrow. Things might not go as planned, they might not accept your mates into the coven but I will push for you."

I want to say something but I don’t want to ruin things. I want to tell her that we are a package deal. Wherever I go, they go.

"I need them with me, they are my family."

He smiles "I am your family, this coven is your family but I understand. I will see what I can do but I make no promises."

I watch him as he leaves and the anger recedes. I hate this so much. I just want to attack her and get to the bottom of this but I know that I will not win right now. I have to do this strategically and the best way to do this is to keep her, my enemy, close to me. Make her think that she can trust me and then attack.

That is the only way that I can win this fight and get my life back.

That is the only way that I can free Gyles from the book of evil.
