Ch. 556..560: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 556-560
Chapter 556: Together
Blue
I stop in front of the car and reach for the handle of the boot. My hands tremble as I open it. There is this energy that comes from being close to the book and I can feel it. I have made up my mind to open it. To ask the book for help.
I know this is a big risk but I need to do this. I need something fast and effective. The connection that the book has with the spirits should make this easier. It should be willing to help. willing to show me how to fix everything that has happened in this place. If Analise killed all the elders, then things are worse than I thought they were.
I see the book in the trunk, it is like a flash of temptation and I have already made up my mind to give in to it. The fear that had for it, is still there but there is determination in my heart. The kind of determination that will make me do anything.
I just want this to be over.
As my hands touch the book, I feel a surge. This is the first time that I have willingly held this thing and now, it feels different. I can feel the energy that it carries. It is so strong, so powerful, and taunting. It gives you this feeling of complete and utter power. Almost like I can do anything in the world.
Right now, it feels like the world is at the tip of my fingers.
Don’t do this outside. Find a safe space.
My wolf advises.
I take the book and their bags into the house. I hear footsteps as I walk into the house and straight to my room. Gyles and Rex are seated on the bed. Gyles stands up immediately I walk in and he walks over to me.
"I want to go look for the room, Eleanor is here right now. Can I go?’’ he asks. The eagerness inside him is daunting. I don’t want him roaming around the basement halls alone. I know what this place carries and I don’t want to have to worry about him.
"Can you just chill tonight, while I figure out how I am going to deal with Analise?’’ I ask him with the hopes that he would listen to me.
He shakes his head "We didn’t come here to chill. How long until they figure out that I am a hybrid. I don’t want to have to be forced into a blood oath. There is no time to chill.’’
I know that he is impatient and I don’t blame him. I mean, at the end of everything I don’t want him here. His scent is not obvious for now, because of the mixture I made but I don’t know if it is something that will last for a while. I don’t know how long it would last and I don’t want it to wear out. I have to make sure that it doesn’t expire here.
So far, things are okay.
"I know this but she is still suspicious of us. I don’t want anyone to see you, roaming about the house. I don’t want her to know our intentions."
He sighs out in frustration "So I just stay in this room until you tell me to come out?’’ he is giving me an attitude but for once, I understand him. This thing is time-bound. We have less than a week to figure things out and I don’t even have a clue.
"Just let me figure things out. we will look for the room."
He runs his hands through his hair and I watch him give in to my suggestion ’Okay, fine. I will let you do this.’’
I drop the bags on the floor next to the bed "I want to use the book. I want to use magic from the book to figure out what the hell is going on in this place."
He smiles "Not so evil anymore, is it?’’ he is being sarcastic but I can’t blame him. I am turning to the one thing that I have been criticizing all along. I know the power that the book holds. I know how dangerous it could be in the wrong hands. The kind of magic that my mother gave into. The more she used this kind of magic, the eviler she became. It sucked her in and now the only way I think she can get out of it is by death.
I have to be the one to kill her and even though this is something that I am dreading, I have already come to terms with it.
"I have no choice. I have to find a way to save us all.’’
He nods "I am in support of this. Whatever it takes to save Eleanor. Whatever it takes to save all those people and the people in the coven."
I smile at him and his cheeks redden. I drop the book on the floor next to the bags and walk over to the door "I need to shield the room, whatever I do in here could be so powerful. I don’t want to gather attention.’’
"How do you plan on doing that?’’ Rex asks. With how quiet he has been, I almost forgot that he was here.
"I have a spell.’’
I bring out my canines and bite my index finger. Blood drawls out of it as I place it on the white door. Drawing out the symbols that represent a star trapped in a circle. The writing with my blood brightens and just as quick as I drew it, it disappears, engraved into the door.
"That should work.’’ I turn back to them "I want to do this with the two of you. I want to take you on this journey with me. Is that okay?’’ I ask them.
Gyles nods immediately and Rex follows "We are with you, whatever you need."
That is all I need.
That is the only hope I need to carry me through this.
"Let’s get to it then."
Chapter 557: The beginning of the end
Blue
I sit on the floor and Gyles and Rex follow suit. The room is silent, the only sounds I hear come from our breathing. Making up my mind about this has set a clearer picture. Suddenly, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. One that I am going to find.
"There’s no going back from this,’’ Rex mutters glaringly.
I know that but I also don’t have a choice in this. I have to do this, I have to make sure that I end things in the coven. I am going to make sure of it. Even if I have to fight her with the same kind of magic she is using.
"I don’t want to go back, I want to do this."
I reach for the book again and this time, I open it in one swing. That energy I felt while holding it surges out of it and it feels like a heavy wind as it enters into my body. I know what this is and I know that I am the only one that can feel it. The first page of the book is a picture. A picture of a monster, glaring at me with sharp teeth. The drawing is in black and white but it feels so real. It feels so empowering. The kind that just takes all the fear out of me.
I always knew that this book was going to be the temptation that I would succumb to. Maybe that is why I was so upset and afraid of it. I didn’t want to give in to it and here I am, doing the one thing I didn’t want to do because of desperation. I literally have no choice. I have seen everything from the one day that I have been here and there is no way that I can do this fight on my own.
You know that saying ’At your own risk’? It feels like I am entering this portal on my own. My eyes stay fixed to the page, almost like it is the intention of the book. To keep me hooked until there is no escape. I take a deep breath as I feel Gyles’s hand rest on my leg. His touch is comforting and I know it is him instantly.
I reach for the end of the page and turn it, in search of something. There are no warnings except the scary monster on the front page. Almost like an easy trap that doesn’t leave disclaimers. Suddenly, I hear voices mixed with the energy.
We can help you.
Trust us.
All you have to do is give in.
These are easy demands. I know that I am ready for this. I am ready to find out what happened to the elders. I look for a spell that is most suitable. They are all incantations with instructions and power that only the book carries. I finally find a spell that seems plausible. The heading is bold and highlighted and it says THE INQUIRER.
I call out the words, knowing full well that once I do this, there is no going back and it is easy. Fucking easy, because I know what I have to lose if I don’t come out of this fight a winner. I have two people that are here, that I love so much, that I can’t live without and if I don’t win this, I will end up losing them.
That thought alone is the push I needed and I feel the transportation and the energy that takes me to the answers I know. I open my eyes and I am not in the room anymore. Gyles and Rex are with me. I recognize this place. We were just here a couple of minutes ago.
"This happened the first time I used the book. It is trying to show us something,’’ Gyles informs us.
I nod in response but before I can answer him, the door opens and I see Magnus as he walks into the room with the other elders.
"We must let her know that we know and she must be punished for it.’’ He bellows to Willow, who is the closest to him.
"How could she be so evil? How could she do the things that she did with no remorse." Rand sighs as they walk over to their seats. I watch them because a part of me already knows what this is about—or rather who this is about.
Analise.
"Can they see us?’’ Rex asks meekly.
I shake my head because I know how this works. Whatever we are seeing has already happened. I asked the book to show me what happened in the elder’s chamber. I wanted to know if they are dead and what I saw earlier actually happened. "This has already happened. We are about to find out what happened to them.’’
Just as I finish my sentence, the door opens and Badger walks in. It seems like a glitch because I am supposed to be seeing Badger, the person that should be walking into the room and for a second, that is who is but that changes and my mother’s eyes stare right at me. Almost like in this memory, she can see me here. I watch her and wait to see if she can actually see me but after a couple of seconds, she turns to face the elders and away from me.
"Are you guys seeing what I am?’’ I ask my mates.
Rex nods "your mother?’ Gyles answers deadpan. I see the resentment in his eyes. He really hates her and I don’t blame him. I hate her as much as he does and she gave birth to me.
"Why are we seeing her, what is going on here?’’ Rex asks.
I shrug because I actually don’t have the answer to this. Slowly, we all turn to the people in the room because this memory is where we will see everything that happened. This is the beginning of the end.
Chapter 558: The worst is yet to come
Gyles
"Do you know why you are here?’’ one of those old dudes that we met earlier asks Analise. I am watching this scene and wondering why this memory is so important to Blue. Of all the things he could have asked the book for, he chose this.
I know what is about to happen because somehow, that is what usually happens when Analise is involved. Everything she touches turns to dust. She is a monster and I don’t even understand why she has made it successfully for so long.
This memory must be after we left. When badger took the reins of the coven.
"No sir, I assumed it was to let me take control until Blue gets back."
One of the elders shakes his head "You sent Blue away. That was your plan and we know.’’ the man speaking is the oldest of all of them. He looks to be over a hundred years old and a thought comes to my head. Killing him seems like a piece of cake, I know it is a far off thought and I know that he must have some special powers but how would Analise have killed all six of them.
It just seems so aggravating to me.
"I don’t know what you mean by that. Blue left on his own, he didn’t want the responsibilities after his mother died. I can’t possibly be blamed for that.’’
The tone of her voice makes her sound so innocent but I know the truth. We all know the truth. I turn to Blue swiftly and he is engrossed in the conversation. He wants to know what happened, I just want to know why he needs to know so badly.
I know that if these people are dead, then Analise is the one that killed them. That is the only confirmation I need.
"We know the truth, Badger.’’ A woman on the high table speaks up, her voice is defeated, and she looks like she feels the same way I do. Tired of Analise and all that she is doing "Or rather, should I say Analise.’’
I turn to Analise immediately as the words leave her lips. I want to see her reaction. I want to see fear in her eyes even though deep down, I know that she might now even give a shit by this. She must have known that there would be a chance that they would find out. What she did was risky and she took that risk, so she must have had a plan.
Her eyes open wide in shock. My heart just screams ’Fake’ but she is doing good at acting. "I don’t know what you are talking about."
"Cut it out Analise, we know. We have known since your sister died."
I freeze at her words the shock evident in my face.
My eyes remain fixed on Analise. This is the moment where she would show her real self. The truth behind those devilish eyes. A smile starts to form on her face, it is slow and taunting. Almost like she is screaming finally, I can be my true self.
This makes me hate her even more. This makes me so upset that for a second, I wish this was real. I wish I could warp into this memory and kill her with my bare hands.
I have never hated anyone as much as I hate this woman. The mother of one of the loves of my life. How can I hate someone that gave birth to the man I love?
That smile turns into a laugh, it is so loud and edgy that my hands start to shake, my skin starts to crawl. "Why are we watching this, I hate this so much,’’ Rex mutters with a croak in his voice. Rex is the most sensitive of us. I see the fear in his eyes. He doesn’t want to see this.
"Finally, took you long enough,’’ Analise smiles ragingly. "I thought I would have to let you guys know on my own. So much for being the wise ones,’ she takes a step towards their table and places her hands on it, leaning closer "You lot are so fucking pathetic, it sickens me.’’
One of the elders—the youngest looking one, stands up "How dare you,’ she shouts angrily. Her eyes are wide and her breathing heavy.
"How dare I? How dare you. I had a plan and you want to ruin it. I will not let you, I will have my way.’’ She scorns.
I sigh, slowly running my hands through my hair. This is like a movie but I know that it is real because they are real and the book has never been wrong.
"You must be mad if you think we will not sentence you to death right now. I Magnus will not allow this to go on for any longer," he stretches his hand out in the air and I watch him as he raises her up to the air. This is the first time I have ever actually seen anyone use magic in this place. Like real magic. There is a light that looks like a rope and it pulls her up, around her neck. My eyes stay fixed on everything that is happening.
Analise still has a smile on her face. Like she is not even afraid of what is going on. It’s almost like she expected this from the get-go.
"You will not face a trial, you will be sentenced to death for practising evil magic. For the murder of Badger and Levine."
"I take it you didn’t think this through,’’ Analise finally speaks up. She is still hanging in the air, her eyes are open wide and that evil smile is plastered on her face. This just looks like pure pleasure to her, this just looks like fun. There is no aorta of fear in her and that is what sickens me. That is what makes me hate this woman.
The fact that she has no remorse.
No conscience.
"It is my turn to play,’’ she echoes in the quiet room.
My heart shakes because I know the worst is yet to come and I will have to watch it all because this is what Blue wants.
Fuck.
Chapter 559: There is strength in weakness
Rex
If you ask me why I am here, why I am a witness to this massacre, I wouldn’t have an answer to that question. I really wish I wasn’t here, I wish I didn’t come to this place. There is just something eerie about the place.
Something that I wish I didn’t have to feel.
I know I am a coward. I have always been a coward and I don’t think there is anything special about me. I should be on the sidelines. In the community waiting for them to come back but there is a part of me that Is scared shitless. I don’t want them to leave me, I don’t want them to see me as weak even though that is how I felt about this visit to the coven. I knew that it was not something that I wanted to go for but I acted like I wanted to be part of this fight.
My wolf isn’t strong enough for this fight. I am not strong enough for this fight and I know it. I know that Blue and Gyles are capable of doing this and they don’t need me but as usual, I was too much of a coward to tell them how I felt.
Now, here I am, in this mess. I don’t like what is happening. This is just a memory and there is this new thing that Blue is trying out. He is including us in everything he does and that includes this memory.
First, it looked like the elders were winning this fight. I could swear that if I didn’t already know that they are dead, I would think that they would win.
In fact, it is not even a fight, it is six people against one person. Granted, Analise has darkness and they have stuck to the light but it shouldn’t have been such an easy battle. She had a fucking smile on her face even when being strangled. I don’t know how to handle it. I want to leave this memory because I know what is about to happen and I don’t know how to handle it. I don’t want to remember this when I close my eyes. I don’t want to watch these people get murdered.
I clean my sweaty palms on my pants as I try to control my breathing. I know that I am whimpering right now, shaking in fear.
Fuck, I don’t want to see this.
Magnus suddenly falls to his knees as Analise lands on her feet, that fucking smile still on her face. I watch as blood starts to pour out of his eyes. I watch as she takes a step towards him. The other people in the room start to shake as they succumb to the same fate. Blood pours out of their eyes, nose and mouth. It is a mess because it starts to get everywhere.
I take a step back until I hit the door with a soft thud. This all seems too familiar. The war before the contention. The one with the vampires. The killings. I was a child but I still remember finding my parents with that much blood. It seems like it is happening again and I don’t like it. I don’t think I can handle this.
"Y...you c..cannot kill us, we are the foundation of the coven. There cannot be a coven without us.’’ Magnus threatens her, the pain evident in his voice. This is an old man, someone that I wouldn’t even try to hurt and she is doing this without even batting an eye. My heart breaks that Blue has to see this.
"What if you become my puppets, then I can do whatever I want. I can have my way as I deserve." She leans closer and lifts his face up with her chin. Blood is still pouring out of his face and my heart keeps shattering.
I close my eyes because I don’t know how much more of this I can take.
"You will not succeed. Blue will be back. Your own son will be your demise.’’ I open my eyes at the mention of Blue’s name and I see the shock on her face. The screams of the other elders like echoes in this dark room. I don’t even know what to focus on.
I don’t want to be here.
"You think I don’t know that, I am waiting for him. When he comes back, I will be waiting. He is my son after all,’’ she pushes him with so much force that he falls to his face. The sound of him hitting the ground is hard and I watch him as he attempts to stand up. She raises her hands up just like Magnus did earlier and with one swing I watch her suck the life out of them at the same time. She didn’t even give them a fighting chance.
Her magic is just stronger than I even imagined. The gruesome act is now engraved in my mind and I don’t know how I will ever be able to get it out. Tears spring out of my face as I fall to my knees. I am weak right now and all the regret I have been feeling since we came here, comes swarming.
I feel his touch before I see him. It is comforting but it is not enough. This is not what I wanted. I just wish I was brave enough to have told them. Brave enough to have stayed behind at home. I open my eyes and we are back in the room, but Blue is holding me in his arms.
"I am sorry," I exclaim an apology in embarrassment. I am the only one that is crying. I am the weak omega that everyone talks about. I can’t even watch a fight without fucking crying.
"Why are you apologizing, that was hard for us all,’’ Gyles interjects.
I shake my head because that is not why I am apologizing "I don’t want to be here, I want to go back home."
Chapter 560: Confession
Blue
He is shaking.
His body is cold.
Rex is never cold but I understand how overwhelming that must have been for him. I might be acting tough right now but I am scared shitless.
Analise was waiting for me.
It seems like me coming back to the coven wasn’t my plan anymore, and it was hers. I thought I was doing the right thing by coming but now I see that maybe, we shouldn’t have come so blindly. We don’t know what the fuck we are doing and because of some ghosts, I have risked the life of my mates.
Rex is not handling things so well. I think maybe he shouldn’t have come at least. I know there is no way that Gyles would have agreed to stay in the community but now it seems like Rex never even wanted to come in the first place.
"What do you mean?’’ Gyles asks him in confusion.
I know exactly what he means and I accept whatever decision he makes "I don’t want to be here, I can’t handle this place and everything that is happening.’’
"I know what we just witnessed was scary but we got this. Don’t let that deter us from the mission." Gyles is trying to convince him, I don’t think it is a good idea. It seems like he has made up his mind and I don’t want to convince him. I would have preferred if the two of them had stayed back and just knowing that Rex wants to go back home is comforting.
Rex pushes away from me and I raise a brow as he goes to a corner in the room. His hands are still shaking, it seems like he is freezing. I just want to hold him until he calms down but it seems like he doesn’t want that. His eyes are red, tears are falling from them and all over his face.
I hate this.
"What is the plan? We walked into this place with no fucking plan.’’ He shouts, suddenly raising his voice. My eyes dart to the door of the room and the mark is still there with my blood.
"Calm down baby, we will figure this out.’’
He shakes his head, wiping the tears from his face. I haven’t seen Rex in this way before. He always looks like he has everything under control. He tries to be the backbone of the three of us but I think the book was just too much for him to handle and at the end of it all, it is my fault.
I should have done it on my own. I wanted to include them, I wanted us to take this ride together but at the end of the day, there are some things that I need to handle on my own. This should have been one of those things.
"What do you want to do now, we are already here. This is already done. I don’t think this is the time to back down,’’ Gyles takes a step towards him. He is not listening to him. He is trying to convince him to change his mind and that is not what I want.
"Gyles, stand down. I will handle this." I glare at him. My voice is firm and dominant. He turns to me and I watch him.
He is panicking. We have to get him back to us before he loses it.
Gyles sends me a mind link.
Just stand down. Don’t manipulate him into agreeing to stay.
I walk over to Rex and he shakes his head immediately "I want to go home Blue. I am not as strong as the two of you, I am not cut out for this,’’ he cries intensely. I reach for him again and this time, he doesn’t back away.
Slowly, I wipe the tears from his eyes as he closes them "I know this is hard. I know that was scary and I shouldn’t have let you see that.’’
He opens his eyes again with the tears still falling from them "I can’t do this. I thought I could be brave, I tried to act like I was but I can’t do this,’’ he confesses.
Hearing him say this pains me because I wish I would have sensed this before we left the community. I thought he was all in and I wanted to include him but he didn’t need to be here to be included. I shouldn’t have dragged him along for the ride. I shouldn’t have just automatically assumed that he would want to be in this fight.
"I know,’’ I grab his hand in mine and he comes back into my arms "I am sorry for just assuming. What do you want to do now?’’ I ask him as I hold him tightly.
His breathing is uneven.
I can sense the fear as it emanates from him. My willed sense working in full force with him. Rex is not a fighter, he has never been and that doesn’t make him a coward. That just makes him Rex. He has his strengths and this is not one of them and that is okay.
"I want to go back home, I don’t want to do this,’’ he cries weakly.
My heart breaks because suddenly I know how hard this must have been for him. Telling me this, after all this time. It is not an easy plight.
I completely understand him and I want to fully support him. "Okay, we will sort it out. I just need you to calm down."
He nods and pulls away from me "I am really sorry.’’
"You don’t have to be."
He turns to Gyles, who is just watching us calmly. "I am sorry Gyles. I thought I could hold on until this is all over, I don’t think I can."
Gyles looks away from him and I can see that he is upset. I understand where he is coming from too but I also know that this is not the time for this.
I didn’t know how serious things were when I came to the coven but things are a lot worse than I thought. I don’t know if I can even win this anymore.
