Ch. 576..580: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 576-580
Chapter 576: Our missing piece
Rex
"She was just here,’’ he mutters in confusion. My eyes stay glued to the place he is pointing to but I can’t see anything. I don t know what is happening but I believe him.
I see the blood all over him.
He is not injured. It is not his blood, which just means that this is someone’s blood and he seems to be adamant about it being his mother.
"She must have escaped," I manage, I just want to be understating right now and if he is insistent on saying that she was the one, then I will believe him.
"I killed her. How could she have escaped when I fucking killed her,’’ he runs his hands through his hair as tears fall out of his eyes. This is hard for him and I can see that but I need him to focus on the important thing right now.
Gyles is missing.
I don’t know where he is and I am starting to panic.
"I need to find her; she is going to be so angry. She is going to try to hurt me back,’’ he grabs unto my arms and starts to tug at me.
"Babe, can you just put on your clothes first and we will talk about what we are going to do?’’ I ask him. I am scared right now and panicking but I also know that he is worse than me right now and he needs me right now.
"Okay,’’ he lets go of my arms and puts on his clothes hurriedly. I watch him as he tries to take steady breaths. He doesn’t want me to see him like this but I am okay with it. I have had my fair share of weak moments with them.
"Where is Gyles?" he asks, looking around.
I already told him that I didn’t find him. So, this is just him in a state of confusion. I need to get him to calm down first and then we will talk about what we are going to do.
"I don’t know."
"Why is this with you?’’ he points to the book "Gyles had it,’’ he adds.
"I know. Something must have happened to him. I don’t know why his energy is so strong. I feel him even though he is not here."
"What does that mean?’’
I shrug "I don’t know. It’s weird but it seems like he is here, with us. We need to find him. I think this is all more than we bargained for. Your mother is so much stronger than we are and I don’t think we are up for this fight."
"I can’t leave here knowing she is still alive. She will never leave.’’ he shakes his head.
He is not in the right headspace. From what I can gather, he thought he killed her but she is still alive which means she knows how he feels about her. Killing your own mother is not for the faint of hearts. I don’t know how he is feeling right now but we need to find Gyles first.
"You can’t think we are all going to fucking stay here with you while you deal with your mommy issues,’’ Darrien butts in.
I glare at him immediately and he shrugs, no guilt on his face. "How do we find Gyles, he is not answering me.’’
"You have magic. It seems like you have forgotten. Finding people is your forte. Look for him,’’ I tell him with a comforting expression on my face.
He sighs "okay, we will not be allowed inside the house. I am sure she is looking for me. I saw a shed not too far in the woods, I think we should spend the night there, at least until we figure out where the hell Gyles is."
"You are right,’’ I agree because there is nothing else we can do for now. For all we know, Analise could be watching us. She could be planning our demise.
"I still think we need to get the hell away from this place. I am not okay with all that is going on here,’’ Darrien interjects.
I see the look of dismay on his face and it makes me feel even worse for involving him in this. He was supposed to just come and pick me up and now he is in this dilemma because of me. I have half a mind to tell him to go home but I also know that he wouldn’t just leave because of Beau. He is supposed to bring me back to the community and I know that is all that is on his mind.
"Let’s just get to the shed first and then we will figure it all out."
He lets out a sigh of defeat and I watch him as he walks in front of us "He is pissed,’’ Blue mutters quietly as we walk behind him.
"Darrien is always pissed."
I clutch unto the book tightly as we continue walking "Why did you bring this out with you?’’ he asks me calmly. I see the way he is looking at the book. He doesn’t like the fact that I have it.
’I saw it in the room, I don’t know why but something feels off with it. It is like there is a different kind of energy radiating out of it,’’ I explain because that is the only thing that makes sense right now. The fact that I can still feel him even though he is not here is the weirdest thing to me.
"Gyles was in that room, he might still be inside the room. I don’t know what else could make sense.’’
I shake my head "Or he could have gone out, I don’t even know how we can find him when he is not communicating with us."
"I will try to locate him when we get inside.’’
I see the shed as Darrien stops walking and turns to us "We leave in the morning, I don’t care about anything else,’’ he warns us as he climbs the stairs and walks into the shed.
I take a deep breath as I hold onto the book.
Rex.
I hear an echo just as I am about to climb the stairs.
Rex.
This time, the voice is louder and almost recognizable. It is not a mind link but I am almost sure that it is Gyles.
Chapter 577: All the might
Gyles
"I need to leave this place. How do I get out of here?" I ask Eleanor.
I can see everything that is happening in the outside world. It is like a mirror that I blocked from the inside. I wish they could see me too. I don’t know how to communicate with them to let them know that I am okay.
Okay, maybe I need to get out of this book before I even think I am okay.
"That’s the problem, we don’t know how to get you out,’’ Eleanor confesses.
I furrow my brows in confusion "What do you mean, you come out all the time. I should be able to do the same."
"It is different."
"Why?"
"We are spirits, our bodies don’t exist. So travelling with the help of the book is easy. With you, I don’t know how it is going to work. You might need help from the people outside."
I sigh, slowly running my hands through my hair in frustration. "Why did you bring me here if you don’t have a way out? How am I supposed to get help from them when they don’t even know that I am inside this fucking book?"
Eleanor looks away from me and I watch her as she walks over to the mirror-like wall. Right now, I can see Darrien as he walks along the trails of the woods. I don’t even know what is happening but we are moving. I can hear Rex in the background, he is the one that brought me here. He is the one that found me. I can feel his presence. I wonder if he can feel me too. There are a lot of unanswered questions.
The las time I saw him, I said goodbye to him. He was supposed to go back to the community but now I don’t even know why he is here again. I am glad that we are all together but I don’t want him to break down again.
I want him to be happy.
I walk over to Eleanor as she places her hand on the glass. It ripples like water and I watch as it is drawn away into the mirror. I run my finger across the glass and the trail of water follows the path. Can I get out of this book if I follow it? I am trapped in here, there has to be a way out of it.’’
Her words don’t make me feel any better. I want to get out of here as soon as possible. I don’t know what is happening outside, but I know that it isn’t good. I can see everything in this world, but I can’t interact with them. And I don’t know how to explain to them that I am trapped inside the book of evil and that they need to help me get out of it.
I need to think of a way to communicate with them and it seems like Eleanor and the rest of the spirits are of no help as usual.
"We can’t do anything to help you. You have the strength to get out of here. The book is connected to you. You just need to let it know how you feel.’’
"How do I do that?’’
I am asking because the uncertainty is weighing down on me. I would be more than willing to leave this place if only I knew how to reach the outside world. I don’t want to be trapped in here. Eleanor looks at me as she puts her hand on my shoulder. "Just think of yourself as a storm. You’re strong. You deal with the weather all the time and you don’t get drowned in it; Reach out to them. It shouldn’t be as hard as you think,’’ she is smiling but there is nothing to smile about.
Ever since we came to the coven, it feels like I keep hitting dead ends. There is nothing good that has come out of this place.
I don’t know any more if it was such a good idea to come here.
I don’t know anything anymore.
I sit down on the floor, surrounded by the spirits that are looking out at the world. I can feel their presence as they watch me, but I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to get out of here. Eleanor’s words are still ringing in my ears. She said that I was strong enough to get out of here, but how? How am I supposed to do that?
My hand remains on the rippled wall, as I try to connect to him. Rex’s presence is stronger than Blue right now. Maybe it is because he is the one that is holding the book. Maybe that is why he keeps mentioning that he can feel me. I close my eyes and I think of Rex. I picture him as I last saw him. I feel as if he is here with me and I can hear his voice in my head.
I call his name out.
They can all hear me but I don’t know if he can hear me.
All that matters right now is being able to reach out to him.
I shout out his name, it is more like a loud desperate cry. I am desperate to connect to him. I am desperate to be noticed. I am desperate to be out of this place.
I don’t belong here.
I belong with him and Blue.
Always have and always will.
My voice becomes hollower but stronger. I don’t know how long I have been calling out but my voice is getting louder and louder. The way the spirits look at me is encouraging. I see their eyes widen and their lips part in a smile. They look happy and it makes me happy too. I continue calling out his name until I feel his presence. The connection that I have been craving comes in a swift moment that he stops moving immediately.
Gyles.
Chapter 578: A feeling of worth
Rex
"I can hear him," I exclaim in excitement. Blue stops walking the minute I react and his eyes remain fixed on me. My heart flutters like a stupidly delighted bird and I quickly look around to see if there is anyone else nearby. "How do you hear him?" Blue asks me curiously.
I don’t want to get my hopes up but there is just this feeling of affirmations inside me. It is almost like I am so sure about it.
So I say "I can hear him in my head."
"But how do you know it’s him?" Blue asks.
"It just is. I can feel it... I think" I reply.
"You think you can feel him?" Blue asks with a dubious look on his face. "Uh yeah, I think so. I can feel it. I think it is him."
I can see the hesitation in his eyes but the next time I hear his voice call out my name, I pull the book closer to me. I feel the sounds that emanate from it and suddenly, it all makes sense.
He is inside the fucking book.
"Blue, come and see this,’’ I call him out instantly as I pull him closer to me. He walks over with no hesitation. I don’t know what I am looking at. I don’t even know if this is the book playing tricks on me.
I mean at the end of the day, it is the book of evil. So it might just be messing with me but this is the only progress I have gotten on finding Gyles.
"What am I looking at?" he asks me calmly as he furrows his brows in confusion.
"It’s him. It’s Gyles... I know it is." I say. Blue just stares at it for a second before he looks at me in confusion. "What are you talking about? It’s just a book." "It isn’t just a book. I can hear him. I can feel him. I am in deep with the book," I exclaim in excitement.
In his eyes, I look like I have finally lost my mind. There is a picture. The picture says it all if you pay attention. Right now, I am connected to the picture and what it entails.
"He is inside the book. He has been here all along. Can’t you feel him?’’ I look up to my mate with the hopes that he sees what I see. His eyes stay glued to the picture. It is nothing obvious. Just a group of people in a white space but I see him in that crowd.
Blue is paying attention to the picture. I know he wants to see what I see but it is difficult for him.
Somehow he can’t see it.
"The book is messing with you, trying to draw you into its orbit. How and why would this just appear suddenly?’’
He is overthinking things now.
I need him to just open his mind to all that is happening.
"He called out to me if the spirits are in the book, why can’t he?’’ I want to reason with him.
I just need him to listen to me. I can feel his heart beating in his chest. He is listening to me but he just can’t see what I see.
"I was so sure about it. But I guess I was wrong," I say to him sadly. I feel like a failure and it is a horrible feeling that is sinking in slowly.
"He is trapped in the book, Blue. Can’t you see it? He is in there. I can feel him."
"Just come on, I will figure this out,’’ he assures me and I believe him. I believe his words because I trust him.
We enter the shed with his eyes still fixed on me. Darrien is seated on a chair by a fireplace in the enclosed space. The room is dusty and very uncomfortable but that is not the point. We aren’t supposed to be comfortable.
"Are we really going to stay here all night? I didn’t sign up for this shit,’’ he exclaims in disarray.
"I just need to figure out if he is actually in the book, once I locate Gyles, we will go back and look for Analise. I need all this shit to end."
I watch him as he sits down on the messy floor and opens up the book. "There are so many ways to ask for things from this book. Trust me when I say this, the book will always want to help. The more it helps, the more you are indebted to it."
"What does that even mean?" I ask him calmly.
"There is an invisible string attached to this book. One that will forever be tethered. The problem with using this kind of magic is what it does to you. I don’t want it to affect me negatively."
I feel his plight but we have no choice right now. Gyles is already deep inside the book--literally. We have to fix that.
I watch him as he flips through the pages.
I watch him with a serious expression on his face. I know what he needs to do. All he needs to do is listen.
Gyles, can you hear me?
I call out to him with all the desperation that is swimming e through me. My heart is racing as I wait in the silence for a response that I know will come.
Come closer.
His voice echoes into my soul. I can feel his intensity through our connection. I can feel his need to be with me even though he is not physically here. I know it is him.
I can feel it in my soul.
I shift closer to Blue, who is still reading the book with so much seriousness. It seems like there is a bold arrow pointing to him, telling me that he is here. Telling me that I need to get to him.
I feel a shadow of movement on the ground, something is moving.
"Close it,’’ I echo in the silence of the night.
Blue looks up at me as I repeat "Close the book and look at it,’’ I urge him desperately.
He obeys me and I shift behind him "Look, see, I told you,’’ I exclaim in excitement. Maybe from all the years of me feeling useless. Maybe all the times I had hated myself.
I want to help.
Maybe I can finally help.
Chapter 579: A needed win
Blue
I don’t know what is going on with him but I am glad that Rex is here with me right now. I thought the best thing for him was to go back to the community but we need to stick together and that is why this is happening.
I don’t know why he is the one that felt Gyles but I am glad that he did.
"Gyles, can you see us?’’ he asks, the excitement completely oozing out of him. I like that at least we know where Gyles is.
I thought Analise took him and knowing that he is here with us, just makes this better. I don’t know where she could be right now but I am going to find her and makes sure the next time that I kill her, she stays dead.
I don’t know which world he is in but it seems like he is with the spirits. He is not the only one that is moving in the pictures. There are a lot of people in the crowd. They are in an empty space and they look to be very overwhelmed.
He looks at me for a second and his eyes are pleading. He wants me to get him out of there but I don’t even know how to.
It is pretty easy. He is trapped in the one place that actually wants to help you, why not use that to your own advantage?
My wolf reminds me.
I have this book with me. This power is inside the pages and I don’t even know how to use it.
I need to completely give in to the book. I need to use this to my own advantage. There has to be a way to channel all my magic into this book, there has to be a way to get him out of it.
"Do you think we will be able to hear him if he talks,’’ Rex asks. Immediately, I see Gyles move his lips in an attempt to communicate with us but just the way the silence has been, it continues.
"I guess no,’’ I answer for him even though he can clearly see.
"I can hear him, which means he can communicate."
"Gyles talk to Rex tell him something,’’ I urge him.
I watch him as he reaches forward. He wants to get closer to us but I can see the defeated look on his face.
The look of dejection. He wants so badly to be near us but he can’t. He can’t even make it to us.
"He said he loves us. He is fine, but a little bit scared that he is never going to come out of the book." Rex tells me I glance at him, a small smile upon my lips. It takes all my strength to not smile at his easy way with words. I hate that I am happy he is able to communicate with him.
This is what we need.
A fucking win.
"We’re going to get you out of there, just give me some time.’’
"How long?’’ Rex asks calmly. I have no idea. Maybe a couple of hours, maybe a few days. All I know is that I am going to do my best to figure this shit out."
I stand up from the floor and he watches me as I leave the book on the floor "Stay here, I need to go back to the house. I need to check the potion room for a spell. I am sure there is something that I can use."
"You want to go back into that house?" Darrien speaks up for the first time in a while.
His brow is raised in question.
"I need to go back, I will find a way to disguise myself."
"I don’t think that is a good idea, the last thing you need to do is get caught. There is no way that we are going to be able to get you back out of there.’’
"I won’t get caught, I need you to just calm down. You are the same person that said we can’t stay here for so long. So I should actually go back to that room. I should actually try to fix things."
"I don’t want you to go alone,’’ Rex mutters quietly.
He is trying to be diplomatic. He doesn’t want to tell me what to do but at the same time, he is expressing how he feels.
"I know but I need you to trust me, can you do that?" I ask him.
He sighs and I watch him as he runs his hands through his hair. He is still as calm as he has been since. Knowing that Gyles is safe must be giving him relief.
"Take Gyles with you. The book is the only thing that can help you if things go south."
I know that is not such a bad idea but I can’t communicate with him "It doesn’t matter, all that matters is that he will be with you. We will wait for you to come back."
He is so optimistic right now and it makes me feel better.
"Okay," I go over to the book and pick it up again. The picture of Gyles is still moving. He opens his eyes immediately I pick the book up. I manage a smile because I know he can see me. I know he is scared, I know he is worried and I hate that I can’t communicate with him. I want him to be able to feel my love. I want him to know there is nothing he needs to worry about.
"I wish I could talk to him. I want to hear his voice so badly," I confess sadly.
"We are going to figure this out. This is one of those things that will pass," he says calmly. I know he is right. There is nothing we can do to stop these things from happening. That is why we will have to deal with it before it gets to the point where it is too late. Rex is always thinking about the future. He doesn’t want to get bogged down with the past.
I need to live my life the way he does
Chapter 580: Thinking about a solution
Darrien
I watch them embrace before Blue leaves the shed and it makes me miss Jabi even more.
Leaving him and coming here fills me up with regret because I know that I can’t leave these guys until they have everything under control. It seems to me like their plan is a mess but I am also stuck with them.
A vampire, stuck in between witches and werewolves. How did I get my life to this point?
"He’s going to be okay,’’ Rex mutters as he sits down on the floor next to me with his legs crossed.
I raise a brow because it sounds to me like he wants me to affirm his statement. I don’t know if Blue actually has this under control but I also need him to come back from this alive. I need him to help me with Jabi. Masking his scent has not been sorted out and if he doesn’t survive whatever this is, then I will have to look for another witch.
Right now, he is the only one that can help me, so I will do whatever it takes to help them.
Yeah, I know it is selfish but at the end of the day, I can only think about Jabi. I don’t ever want to put myself in the kind of danger that will leave him alone in this world. I never want him to ever go through that.
"He gave you his word, just believe that,’’ I smile because right now, I am going through Jabi withdrawals.
"Thank you for sticking around,’’ he tells me.
I nod my head as my phone rings inside my pocket. Rex watches me as I bring it out of my jeans and answer the call immediately.
Jabi’s face pops up on the screen immediately. My heart lunges in my chest from just seeing him through this phone.
"You’re not back and you didn’t call. What happened?’’ he asks immediately the worry etched in his voice.
I would have been blowing up his phone if he did what I did. So I can completely understand his panic right now.
"Plans changed baby. I needed to stay back,’’ I tell him honestly because I don’t keep anything from him.
"Why?"
I take a deep breath as I relay everything that has happened in the last couple of hours. I haven’t really been that much of a help but at least I am here. I don’t even know what I could possibly do to help them.
The fact that the fight is with Magic just steps on my toes.
"When will you be back?’’ he asks me worriedly.
I notice that he is dressed in my shirt. The one that he claimed a long time ago. It is big for him but somehow fits him perfectly. "I don’t know but I won’t stay here for too long. I will come back to you.’’
This is me giving him my word.
I don’t want to worry and think about what could be happening to me. "I know that I just miss you a lot."
Rex smiles at Jabi’s innocent confession. Jabi has always been vulnerable with me and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I like that about him. I want to be there for him and I don’t want to lose that. "Aww, I miss you too,’’ a sheepish smile finds its way to my face. His cheeks redden as he blushes. "I love you.’’ "I love you too’’ I say quietly.
I end the call and Rex is still smiling as I look at him. "He’s worried,’’ I explain to him even though he didn’t ask.
"Thank you again for being here."
"Don’t you find all this weir?"’ I ask him.
He furrows his brows but shifts closer "This place is weird. I hate the air so much."
"Why didn’t you convince them not to come back? It seems like you are the voice of reasoning in the group.’’
He chuckles "They needed to, there is no way I could have convinced them not to."
"So this woman Blue is trying to kill is his mother and she keeps coming back to life?’’ I ask for more information. No matter how many times they explain this to me, I still don’t understand.
"Yes.’’
"How do you all plan on killing someone that can’t die?" I ask him because genuinely want to know what the plan is.
"Blue seems to think he can do it and I believe in him,’’ he interjects with a slight shrug.
He believes in him because of the love he has for him but I don’t love the guy, I barely even know him, so I have to be the one to talk some sense to them.
"I don’t believe it is going to be that easy to take her down. She seems like a difficult match, one that will always be one step ahead. There has to be something that would lead to her demise. She must have a weakness and what we need to do is find it. We need to find her kryptonite." Rex nods in agreement. "But how are we going to do that? ’’ he asks getting frustrated. We are all so used to dealing with death in some way or form that I don’t think anyone will be able to do anything about it. "Maybe it is the fact that she is alive that gives her power. Maybe we are going about it all wrong. Maybe we need to find the source of her magic. There has to be something that gives her the strength that she has."
We stay in silence for a couple of minutes. The shed is dark, the only light comes from the tiny window by a corner.
"How do we do that?" he asks finally.
"I need to make a call, there is someone that could help us,’’ I tell him and I know that this will be the second time I will ask her for help but maybe I need to. Maybe involving her will make this better.
I need to go back home to Jabi.
