Ch. 431..440
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 431-Stop Sucking Up Christopher arrived on the hotel's seventh floor the next day, where he found Jenny eating breakfast. She looked at him and smiled. ’ Have you eaten?"
"No." He came to pick her up and hadn't had time for breakfast. She signaled at him to sit and said slowly, "There's no rush. We have the time for breakfast."
She seemed calm and peaceful, as though there were no worries in her mind.
Influenced by her attitude, he sat across from her and slowly ate his breakfast.
"I asked Grandpa yesterday if he'd tell you everything. Guess what he said?"
Christopher tried to get her attention.
She glanced at him and smiled softly. "From your question, I could tell that he's agreed to tell me everything. You wouldn't have looked at ease otherwise."
Had it been the other way, Christopher would have been too embarrassed to show up before her, not to mention enjoying breakfast.
How smart of you," he sighed and thought that he shouldn't have let her guess in the first place. She lifted a brow at him and didn't comment on the matter.
During breakfast, he hesitated before finally saying, "Did you know that Natalia Cruz is back in Bardoff City?” She frowned and wondered why he'd bring up the topic since she wasn't close to Natalia.
"I thought you'd be interested." He shrugged powerlessly and admitted that he had guessed wrong. Indeed, he had never truly understood Jenny.
"I'm sorry. I am not interested in that," she replied.
He didn't say another word after that, and they finished breakfast in silence.
Then, they left the hotel in his car and headed to Spade Manor.
At that moment, Jenny was a little nervous because she was close to hearing the truth. No one in her place could stay calm and pretend nothing had happened. Plus, she had no idea about the truth and whether she could accept it, which exacerbated her anxiety.
Not long after, the car drove into the grounds of Spade Manor. Given how precious land was in Bardoff City, the Spades must be a wealthy family to own a massive manor here.
Jenny couldn't help but wonder about the lives of the Ten Elites of Bardoff City that Christopher mentioned.
The car rolled to a stop when she was deep in thought.
“We're here."
She nodded and got out of the car.
“Let's go." He stood beside her and led her into the living room. She walked right behind him and expected to see Harvey Spade in the living room. To her surprise, there were two more people.
Christopher didn't anticipate the presence of his parents after their visit the day before, and his expression fell. "Why are you here again?"
Ben and Evelyn skipped him and turned to Jenny with sullen looks.
Are you Jenny Walter?’ Evelyn asked and quietly thought, “What a vixen! How dare she seduce my son with that look of hers?"
Jenny nodded with a smile. "Hello, sir and madam." Although she had no clue about the situation, she remained respectful as the guest.
’ Hmph!" Evelyn scoffed. "Madam? Stop sucking up."
Jenny didn't reply to her and turned to Harvey instead. "Mr. Spade, how's your health?"
“I'm in good shape. I feel better after the surgery you performed." Harvey beamed at her as if he was looking at his granddaughter-in-law.
Jenny smiled and reminded him, "That's great! Always take care of your physical and emotional health. You shouldn't put yourself through intense emotions."
“Sure. I'll listen to you." Harvey nodded in satisfaction with a smile on his face.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was offended and angered when she was ignored by Jenny.
"What's wrong with you, woman? Didn't you hear me? I guess I shouldn't expect good manners from a country bumpkin!"
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 432-Bullshit Status Jenny frowned in displeasure. "Madam, despite having bad manners,' I still treat everyone with respect. How about you?"
She hadn't planned on getting into a fight with Christopher's parents, but Evelyn was too rude and offensive. As a guest, she didn't come to ask for favors and refused to be bullied.
"You!" Evelyn banged on the table and stood up as though she'd beat up Jenny, but Jenny stared her down fearlessly.
Christopher finally gathered himself and hurriedly shielded Jenny. He flashed a stern look at Evelyn. "What do you think you're doing? Jenny is my guest."
‘She's a guest? Does she deserve to be the guest of our family?" Evelyn didn't attempt to mask her disdain and great dislike for Jenny, who had the guts to talk back to her. She thought, "If this is how she behaves before she marries Christopher, what would happen after she joins the family?"
Enraged, Christopher turned to the butler at the door. "Call the guards over and kick them out!" He didn't want to see his parents around any longer.
Evelyn's expression fell, and Ben interjected, "Christopher, your mom doesn't embellish her words, but she speaks facts. Sure, that woman is pretty but looks alone aren’t enough to qualify for marriage into our family. You should know this as the heir."
At that moment, Christopher was extremely annoyed to the point that he wanted to lash out physically. Having pieced the puzzle together, Jenny wanted to explain herself but held back because his parents might not believe in her words anyway.
"That's enough!" Harvey spoke with an ashen face. "Aren't you tired of embarrassing the family?"
Dad! This is a matter of principle! We can't compromise." A helpless Ben wondered what was in Harvey's mind that he would approve of the relationship between Christopher and Jenny.
Feeling a headache coming up, Harvey waved at him and said, "Follow me. ’ With that, he went up to the study on the second floor. Although Ben had no idea what Harvey wanted to discuss with him, he followed after Harvey and vanished from the living room.
Only Christopher knew that Harvey planned to reveal Jenny's background to Ben to stop him from opposing Christopher and Jenny's relationship. He knew that was the best solution, but it made him uneasy.
"Why do I need their approval to go after my happiness? Why can't I choose Jenny because she's from an ordinary background?" he wondered.
Jenny noticed he looked furious and went up to comfort him. "Calm down.I get it."
In Ben and Evelyn's eyes, she was merely an ordinary woman without the backing of a powerful family. Thus, she was perceived as a bad match for their son.
‘I'm sorry. I didn't know they'd visit too." Christopher felt sorry for Jenny. Not only did she not receive the welcome she deserved, but she also had to be scolded by his parents. No sane person could tolerate such humiliation.
Jenny shook her head, looking unbothered. "It's fine. I know you didn't want this to happen as well."
During their conversation in the living room, they ignored the presence of Evelyn, whose face fell at the humiliating treatment-she was Ben Spade's wife, after all. She hissed at Jenny and made herself clear, 'Let me tell you! You will never marry into the Spade Family!"
Christopher gritted his teeth and barked at Evelyn before Jenny could say a word, "I don't need you to worry about my life!"
‘Christopher Spade, you're my son and the successor of the Spades' family business! You need to be mindful of your status!" Evelyn was equally frustrated, thinking that her son was being an idiot.
"What bullshit status? I don't mind giving it up!"
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 433-Do Not Cause Trouble Jenny felt awkward standing aside while the two were engaged in a heated argument. She wanted to mediate but felt she didn't have the right to butt into the affairs between a mother and son-they shared an inseverable relationship.
While she was hesitating, she heard a huge thud from the second floor, which also attracted the attention of Evelyn and Christopher. The three of them hurried upstairs and barged into the study.
“Grandpa!"
They found Harvey slumped on the ground while Ben stood aside helplessly.
Jenny rushed over to perform some checks on the old man, and her expression grew serious. "Get him to the hospital! It's a cerebral hemorrhage!"
She had advised Harvey to refrain from emotional turbulence, but it seemed that he forgot her words.
Meanwhile, Christopher lifted Harvey in his arms and left the study. At the door, he spun around and told Ben menacingly, "I'll make you pay if anything happens to Grandpa!"
“You!" Ben was provoked by his son's threat as he wondered if Harvey was the only one who mattered to Christopher. Was he that invisible as a father? Even though Christopher merely stated the facts, Ben felt ashamed for being called out.
Christopher refused to engage with him and went to the first floor with Harvey.
Before he left the Spade Manor, he reminded the servants to keep guard and prevent anyone from leaving the manor-he was referring to Ben and Evelyn.
Back in the study, Evelyn looked disconcerted. "What happened? Why did he suddenly faint?” How would I know? I talked back to him-nothing much-but I never thought he'd be that agitated." Speechless, Ben recalled how Harvey immediately scolded him when they arrived at the study. He never had much patience for such matters, and thinking that Harvey only wanted to lecture him, he naturally retorted.
Evelyn appeared worried. "Judging from Christopher's response, I'm afraid he won't let this slip if anything happens to his grandpa."
"What else can he do to me? He can't kill me, can he?" Ben smirked, thinking that Christopher was still his son anyway, and sons would have to listen to their fathers.
On the way to the hospital, Christopher held on to Harvey and urged the driver to go faster. He and Jenny sat in the back and kept a close eye on Harvey's condition, but the more they observed, the more their worries grew.
Soon, the car arrived at the hospital. As the hospital had received advanced notice, some doctors and nurses were waiting for their arrival at the entrance, and they immediately got Harvey into the emergency room.
“Stop," Christopher called out to them and looked at Jenny. "Jenny, you be the surgeon." He only had trust in her at that moment.
The doctor at the hospital entrance frowned in annoyance. "Mr. Spade, the patient is in a critical situation. Please don't cause trouble at this time." To him, the suggestion to have an outsider fill in the role of a surgeon at their hospital was a huge joke.
Christopher wanted to explain that Jenny was a talented doctor, but Jenny stopped him. "Let's not delay the surgery." She requested the doctors to go ahead and work on Harvey while she talked to Christopher.
In no time, Harvey was wheeled into the operating room. Christopher and Jenny sat on the bench outside the room, where she explained to him, "I know you trust me, but we doctors have to follow the scope of practice. I can't perform surgery at this hospital. Besides, there are a lot of doctors who are more skilled than me in Bardoff City. I believe they can save your grandpa."
Jenny never thought of herself as the best doctor in the world. Even though a cerebral hemorrhage sounded vicious, it would not pose a great risk to the patient if treated on time
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 434-Aren't You Tired?
Christopher hung his head. He understood everything that Jenny had explained to him, but he couldn't stop worrying.
While they were waiting in silence, a family in a Bardoff City castle was discussing Jenny.
’Dad, Mom, did you know that Christopher brought home a woman today?" A young lady beamed as she shared the gossip with her parents.
The woman who sat at the head of the table raised her brows, looking interested and surprised. "Oh? What kind of woman is she? I thought people said that Christopher wasn't interested in women."
She was Rowena Glass, the matriarch of the Walter family. Seated beside her was the head of the Walter family, Graham Walter. The young lady they spoke to was their only daughter, Jolene.
I heard she’s from a small city, and I bet she's not up to the standard.
Christopher's parents are probably strongly against that woman. Who knows?
They might be in a huge fight right now."
Jolene was not close to Christopher in the first place. They were acquaintances that brushed shoulders a few times at events. In Jolene's eyes, the successor of the second-tier Spade family was not worthy of friendship. Still, that would not stop her from spreading gossip.
“That kid is too naive. He can't possibly expect to make his own decisions on marriage when he's born to an influential family." Rowena dropped a casual remark as she stole a glance at Graham. He merely ate his breakfast and ignored the two women as though they were invisible.
An excited Jolene didn't notice the awkward tension between her parents and said, "I heard that woman once saved Harvey Spade. That's why Christopher treated her differently."
‘Saving Harvey Spade? I bet it was a calculated encounter. She might have made the move just to get closer to Christopher. Poor kid thought she was a savior."
Rowena's comment sounded jarring to Graham. He finally placed his cutlery on the table and shot her an icy look. "Why? You want to pick a fight early in the morning?"
Her shock quickly turned into anger. "Why? Did I hit you where it hurts? And did that ruin your appetite?"
‘You're impossible!" He stood and left the dining room, presumably heading to the office. He felt frustrated whenever she was around.
Rowena was unconcerned by his outburst. At the end of the day, he married her over that bitch, who was nothing but ashes by now.
Dumbfounded, Jolene stared at her with a hint of displeasure. "Mom, why do you always provoke him?"
‘You won't understand. It's complicated between your dad and me." Rowena treated her daughter better.
Indeed, Jolene was unaware of the history between her parents. Even since she could remember, the two never had a meal in peace.
Sighing, she advised Rowena, "I know you're not over the fact that Dad was once into another woman. But she's dead now, and he married you at the end.
Do you still need to fight with him over it? Is that what you want for the rest of your life with him? Aren't you tired?"
It was hard for Jolene to understand her mom, and she believed it would be best to let bygones be bygones.
Unfortunately, Rowena didn't share the same opinion. "Tired?" She chuckled.
"How would I be tired? Fighting with him is what keeps me going in this life."
Given how he had treated her in the past, Graham's pain was her happiness.
How would she feel tired? In fact, it was exhilarating.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 435-It's Not Your Fault Harvey's surgery lasted for a full five hours before it came to an end. Thankfully, Harvey survived the ordeal, but he was in a coma indefinitely. In simple words, he could well fall into a vegetative state.
It was a huge blow to Christopher, who found it difficult to accept that his energetic grandfather had fallen into a coma in a day.
Standing by his side, Jenny looked at Harvey in the ICU with complicated emotions, and she was somehow riddled with guilt. Had she not visited, she would not have caused a misunderstanding for Ben and Evelyn, and Harvey might not have ended up in this condition.
Feeling sorry, she apologized, "I'm sorry. I…"
It's not your fault." Christopher had calmed down by now. He was not an unreasonable man.
Mr. Spade will wake up soon," she said to him out of courtesy, even though the words might not bring him any comfort.
’Mm." He left the ICU entrance and headed for the hospital exit.
She followed closely behind him with concern. "Where are you going?"
"To make them pay." Filled with spite, he clenched his jaw tight.
Jenny was worried but didn't know how to talk him out of it. Perhaps, stopping him from releasing his emotions might be more damaging.
Christopher paused and turned to her with slight embarrassment. "I’m afraid Grandpa couldn't tell you the truth given his condition. What do you plan to do now?"
It's fine. I came to Bardoff City to run some errands for the Walkers anyway. I’ll scout an office location for their company. As for other matters IV After giving it some thought, she added with a smile, "Let's discuss them later.
Maybe it's a blessing to be kept in the dark."
It was a pity that she couldn't get her answers from Harvey, but since she couldn't change the situation, she'd rather accept the reality.
"Okay. Shall I send you back to the hotel?" he asked.
She shook her head. "It's fine! Do what you have to do. You'll have a lot to deal with. There might be fights in the family after Mr. Spade's hospitalization. You don't need to worry about me for now. I can look after myself."
Christopher seemed to have grown up overnight. He was sensible enough not to insist and said, "Sure, I'll get going. Call me if you need anything."
Okay." She nodded and watched as he left.
When his car was out of sight, she let out a deep sigh and took a last glance at the hospital. Since Christopher had posted some staff at the hospital, she wouldn't need to take care of anything there. She decided to get started on her mission to help the Walkers. With that in mind, she hailed a cab and left.
At Bardoff Airport, Alec listened to Vincent's updates while leaving the terminal.
When they hopped into the car outside the airport, Vincent managed to reconnect to the internet and gasped, "Oh no! Harvey Spade is in hospital."
Hearing that, Alec grabbed the tablet from Vincent and carefully scrolled through the news. A moment later, he put on a grave and cold expression. ’ Call her and ask her where she is."
Vincent had an idea after he took out his phone. "Mr. Faust, why don't you make the call yourself?” Alec responded with a murderous glare, and Vincent promptly dialed Jenny's number without further questions. "I'll call her!"
Alas, Jenny missed the calls because she was busy discussing details of office rental in Bardoff City.
"She didn't pick up…" Vincent reported feebly as he braced for a storm.
Contrary to his anticipation, Alec sighed gently and said, "Let's get to the hotel for now."
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 436-What Bad Luck Graham returned to Walter Castle at night after his work engagements. Rowena and Jolene were in the living room, and Jolene quickly went up to support him.
"Dad, why did you get drunk again?"
“I'm alright." He waved at her, and she helped him to sit on the sofa.
She poured him a glass of water and massaged his shoulders. "Dad, I've told you not to overwork yourself. Mom and I would feel bad." Jolene heard Rowena scoffing and quickly glared at her so that she'd shut up in case the situation ended in fights like before.
Graham was patient around his daughter. "Yeah. I'll take note of it next time."
Jolene mumbled unhappily to herself. Seeing that, Graham changed the topic and announced, "Harvey Spade is in the hospital. You should visit him someday."
Even though he didn't specifically address anyone, it was clear that Rowena had to take charge of the visit.
"Okay." Rowena nodded. She had gotten wind of the news early on and would have arranged for someone to pay a visit even without Graham reminding her.
That was right; she would ask someone to pay Harvey Spade a visit on her behalf. As the matriarch of one of the Ten Elites in Bardoff City, she thought it was beneath her to personally attend to matters concerning second-class families.
’ I was discussing this with Mom!" Jolene perked up. A day was sufficient for her to collect all the information. "Rumors had it that Christopher had brought the woman home, but his parents disagreed with their relationship and had an argument with Harvey Spade. Harvey Spade got too agitated and had a cerebral hemorrhage," she rattled on.
Graham had no idea about the specifics of the incident, nor was he interested.
He only knew that many were ready to attack the Spades after the hospitalization of its patriarch, and he wondered if Christopher could withstand the pressure.
“I heard her name is Jenny Walter. We share the same surname. What bad luck!" Jolene had no regard for those from smaller cities than Bardoff, and it bothered her that Jenny was a Walter too. In her eyes, her family name was far superior. She was raised as the proud daughter of one of the Ten Elites in Bardoff, and she couldn't stand the fact that she would share a surname with someone beneath her. Before Graham got home, she had been discussing with Rowena if they should ask Jenny Walter to change her surname.
Still, she was smart enough not to bring up the issue in front of Graham, for he hated any abuse of power.
Graham froze in shock when he heard Jenny's name, and his eyes widened in disbelief. 'What was her name again?"
"Jenny Walter. What's wrong, Dad?" Jolene stared at him, puzzled by his unnecessary question.
He shook his head and said, "Nothing. I think it's fate that both of us are Walters."
"It's not fate-just bad luck,' Jolene protested, frowning.
Graham was unhappy at her comment and schooled her, "Jo, do you remember what I've taught you?" Jolene lowered her head and avoided his gaze. He continued, "Wealth doesn't equal impunity. The fact is that she shares the Walter surname. How is that bad luck?"
He appeared upset upon thinking that Jolene had been raised wrong by her mom. He thought, "She didn't learn the right values but was quick to absorb bad influence."
Jolene pursed her lips, looking victimized. "Dad, how can you raise your voice at me over an outsider?"
"This has nothing to do with Jenny Walter being an outsider. I scolded you because of your attitude," he admonished her, but she was in no mood to listen.
In her mind, she was wronged when her dad scolded her over an outsider, and she instantly held a grudge against Jenny Walter, whom she had never met.
"What's this? How could Dad scold me for a woman from a small city?
That woman is trouble!"
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 437-Do You Have a Death Wish?
Graham retired to his room, and Jolene stormed out of the house, leaving Rowena alone in the living room. She glanced at his room on the second floor and frowned. It could have been a mistake, but she sensed that he had an odd reaction upon the mention of Jenny Walter. She had always been cautious and would capture minor behavioral changes in others.
It wasn't a mistake, she decided after a while and nodded. She called her assistant. "Look into this person for me. I need everything you can get on her."
At the same time, Jenny was back at her hotel after a busy day. She called Christopher to get an update on Harvey, and she was upset to learn that Harvey remained unconscious. After the call, she lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling as she fell into a reflective state.
“Why is it this hard to get to the truth? Do I really have to go home emptyhanded?" she wondered.
The doorbell interrupted her train of thought. She went to the door and asked, "Who's out there?"
“Good evening. This is room service. Would you like some desserts freshly prepared by the kitchen?" A sweet female voice rang from the other side.
Jenny happened to be starving after a long day. She opened the door without thinking much and said to the hotel employee in uniform, "Sure. One order for me."
"Okay. I'll send the desserts to your room." The woman picked up a plate of desserts, entered Jenny's room, and placed the plate on the table.
Jenny sat only to frown when she realized the employee didn't plan to leave. "Is there anything else?"
’ No. Please go ahead,” the employee answered but didn't budge.
Jenny dared not dig in. Her eyes traveled between the desserts and the employee as she leaned into her chair. "Could you please leave? I can't eat when you're in my room."
On top of that, the employee was staring at her with a suspicious look. Even though the employee did not make a move, Jenny rose in defense. She wasn't an idiot-she would be one if she failed to sense the threat.
‘Who sent you?" she demanded to know as get into a fighting stance. The employee smiled in defeat and took off her cap and heels. "Darling, please don't worry. I won't take your life. I just need something from you."
While speaking, she charged at Jenny. Jenny quickly dodged her attacks, but her opponent swiftly kicked and punched at her without showing mercy.
Frowning, Jenny couldn't understand how she could make enemies in the last few days she had been in Bardoff City. Not only that, but her curiosity was also piqued by the attacker, who was highly skilled in martial arts.
While wracking her brain, she focused on defending herself against the attacker, but her heart sank after a few rounds of combat. By then, she knew that she was no match for the attacker.
' My dear teacher, did you lie to me? Before leaving the village, you told me I had no competition among my peers. But what about this?" she thought. She wouldn't mind having competition in Parrington, but the fact that she couldn't take down a random opponent in Bardoff City made her question her abilities.
She felt helpless but had no choice but to give her all, for she couldn't surrender.
Ten rounds later, she was exhausted and pinned under the attacker.
"You won." Jenny quit the struggle. To her disbelief, she might actually lose her life during her first visit to Bardoff City.
However, the attacker was not in a hurry. Looking at Jenny, she had a renewed sense of awe and somberness. "You're quite good. Who taught you?"
Jenny held her tongue because she would never reveal her teacher in Orchid Village to anyone.
"Are you not going to talk? Do you have a death wish?" the attacker said in a warning tone as she narrowly slid her blade across Jenny's cheek.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 438-Just Having Some Fun with You If you wanted to kill me, you'd do it whether I tell you or not." Jenny was clever enough not to fall for the attacker's lie.
The attacker chuckled at her logical interpretation, her blade still sliding across Jenny's cheek as she contemplated her next move. “You're pretty, but you'd look better with a few scars."
Jenny didn't say a word, but she scanned the room desperately to find an escape. Sadly, she was cornered under the attacker's violent domination.
When the attacker raised her knife, Jenny braced herself for facial injuries, but the blade merely made a tiny cut on her neck. She felt a pang of pain and some bleeding, but it was not a serious wound. Out of Jenny's sight, the attacker collected her blood in a small tube and tucked it away before grinning at her victim. "Did you feel that everything's ending for you just now?"
"What do you really want?" She didn't intend to kill Jenny, for she would have acted sooner if she wanted to murder. Jenny had no idea about her identity.
The attacker smiled at her but didn't plan to leave. "Don't worry. I'm just having some fun with you."
Suddenly, they heard footsteps from the door, and the attacker was on high alert as she pulled Jenny closer to place the knife against her neck. A man wandered in from the door, and his eyes widened at the sight. "Let go of her!"
"And who are you to her?" The attacker beamed and developed an interest in the man who showed up.
Alec Faust looked grim. He had never expected to find Jenny being held hostage when he was checking out her accommodation in Bardoff City.
Although he didn't know the attacker, he realized she was a tough opponent because Jenny was good at martial arts. "I'm her boyfriend."
Boyfriend?" She raised a brow and examined his face before turning her attention to Jenny. "You're a great match."
"What do you want? Let go of her, and I'll give you anything you want," he announced as he wondered how Jenny got herself into trouble with that dangerous woman.
The attacker silently walked up to Alec with Jenny in her grip. When she was right in front of Alec, she quickly shoved Jenny into his arms and escaped. "I'm out of this game! Goodbye!"
Instead of going after her, Alec hurriedly checked on Jenny. He was especially concerned about the blood on her neck. "Don't move. I'll send you to the hospital."
He was about to carry her, but she stopped him. "I'm okay. This is a tiny wound."
The attacker didn't use force on Jenny, who was unscathed except for the bleeding on her neck. However, it only puzzled her more. What had happened?
Why didn't she harm her or take her life?
As she was thinking, he wrapped her in his arms. "It's good as long as you're safe."
She was confused by his sudden embrace that filled her nose with his familiar woody scent. She soon emerged from her daze and pushed him away. "Why are you here?"
He coughed awkwardly and put on a serious face. "I'm on a business trip and booked a room in the same hotel. I just happened to run into you."
She rolled her eyes at him, a clear sign that she didn't believe his words. He took the room card out of his bag and showed it to her. "I'm staying next door."
Dumbfounded, she realized he had indeed checked into the room next to hers.
Did that mean it was purely coincidental that he had passed by her room and run into the situation?
Are we fated, or is it all because of dumb luck?" she wondered.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 439-When Is This Going to End?
Alec was about to ask Jenny about the attack, but he was interrupted by some vicious-looking intruders who showed up at the door, clearly up to no good.
Jenny's expression fell as she thought, 'When will this end?" She rolled her fists and stared at the men. "So, are you after me too?"
The men exchanged glances of confirmation and nodded at each other. She then realized that they were indeed after her. Without wasting time, she wanted to charge at them. Not every person in Bardoff City was as skilled as her previous opponent, she'd like to believe, and she vowed to take her revenge.
However, Alec grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. "You're injured. Leave them to me."
Tm not—"
Alec made his move. He was as fast as lightning, and the men were laying on the floor in no time, groaning in pain. They were obviously not at the same level as the female attacker. Jenny walked up and smiled at one of them. "Who sent you?"
The man remained quiet. She kept a smile on her face but stepped on his face without warning. "I'll ask you once more. Who sent you?"
The man grimaced in pain but remained silent. Jenny finally chuckled out loud.
"You're a stubborn one, aren't you? I guess you're flirting with death." She turned to Alec and ordered, "Beat him to death.’ Alec wanted to execute her orders. The men on the floor were shaking in fear as he sprang into action, and they totally believed he would end them.
Til talk! I'll talk!’ Someone finally cracked, for none of them wanted to draw their last breath there.
Jenny was speechless at how fast they surrendered to Alec. "Was I not murderous enough just now?" she wondered as she stared at the man who spoke and waited for him to talk.
Soon, she found out that Christopher's parents were behind this planned attack, leaving her at a loss. Although she didn't have a good impression of his parents, she got along well with him. How could she possibly send his parents to jail?
Moreover, she was waiting patiently for Harvey to wake up and ask him about her birth family.
Alec's face clouded when he noticed her conflicted look. "Are you not going to take action on them because they're Christopher's parents?"
She had indeed contemplated doing so.
‘Why did you come to Bardoff City with him? Was it to meet his parents?" Alec had a dark expression as he fumed over the fact that Jenny had met Christopher's parents but not his.
Jenny knew there was a misunderstanding and explained, "I wasn't here to meet his parents. I wanted to meet his grandpa."
‘Isn't that the same?" he wondered, speechless.
I have something to discuss with his grandpa," she attempted to explain again, but he scoffed in disbelief. She was unbothered, seeing no reason to explain further, given that there was no relationship between them.
"What are you going to do with them?" Alec stared at the men on the floor. If it were up to him, he would turn them in to the police and have the mastermind jailed.
Jenny clearly had different ideas. A moment later, she said, "Let's get someone to send them to Christopher. I believe that he'll take care of this problem.’ Judging from Christopher's attitude toward his parents, he might give them more trouble if he heard about their wicked plan. That would be better than dirtying her hands to teach Ben and Evelyn a lesson. However, Alec was upset at her decision and snickered, "What if he decides to protect his parents? Would you want to be taken advantage of?"
"He's not that kind of person," she explained.
‘And do you know him well?" He stared squarely at her, livid.
To Be Yours Again by Taylor Chapter 440-I'll Tell You Everything Jenny could tell from Alec's tone that he was green with envy. But why? He shouldn't care about her if he was into Quinn Blue. She glanced at him and, considering that he had helped her, said, "I only know that he's not on good terms with his parents."
He wanted to say something but held his tongue when he saw the look in her eyes.
The night ended with the group of men sent to Christopher’s office without any further explanation; the plan was to have him figure it out himself.
However, Christopher quickly called Jenny and was instantly up to speed." Don't worry. I'll answer to you, and I promise I won't let this slip." He clutched his phone with one hand while holding a pen in another, almost bending the pen out of anger. Not only did Ben and Evelyn hinder him, but they also added to his troubles. Life must have been too easy for them.
Jenny trusted him and didn't bring up the matter after the call. Still, she could not shake off the thought of that female attacker. She believed that Christopher's parents had sent the men to attack her, but they were unrelated to the first attack. Who'd be the mastermind behind that one?
During her short visit to Bardoff City, she had only acquainted herself with the Spades. There was no reason for others to target her.
Suddenly, she had an idea in her head and turned to Alec. "Could Paul Wagner have sent her to attack me as a warning?’’ Jenny wondered if her plan to find a place for the Walkers' office in Bardoff City had accidentally been exposed by Stephanie. Was Paul resentful of her and sent someone to give her a warning? However, the female attacker didn’t say anything that'd reveal the motive behind the attack.
Paul? Why him?" Alec thought that her guess was weird and unprompted. She pursed her lips and kept her thoughts to herself. "It's just a guess. Tell me if that's a possibility."
"It's impossible," he said firmly, and she trusted him. After all, Alec was close to Paul, and he'd know if Paul had hired a talented martial artist. Still, Jenny couldn't exclude the possibility of Paul keeping secrets from Alec.
"You can't stay in this room anymore. Take my room." He handed her his room card, but she refused to take it.
She stood and grabbed her suitcase. "It's not only about the room. I can't stay in this hotel anymore.” She wanted to change hotels as she wouldn't want to be ambushed again.
Seeing that, he hesitated and suggested, "I have a place in Bardoff City. Do you want to stay there? Anyone can get hold of your records if you check in to another hotel."
Since the hotels required guests to register with their real names, Alec believed that changing hotels wouldn't help.
No!" she rejected his offer, keeping in mind their current relationship.
"Jenny, don't be stubborn. Your safety is the top priority." Helpless, he knew that she was still angry at him. She ignored him and dragged her suitcase out of the room to cancel her room reservation in the lobby. He followed her and said, "Jenny, I know I made a mistake hiding stuff about my dad from you. I shouldn't have kept you in the dark."
She didn't answer him and continued walking.
"Quinn Blue…" he muttered, stopping her in her tracks. He added, "If you agree to stay at my place tonight, I will tell you about her."
