Ch. 2441..2450
Chapter 2441
Time flew, and Larry had left the country for a week. Although Joan felt a little lonely, she hesitated to
give him a call for fear of bothering him.
“Joan, what’s up? Do you miss Larry? Just give him a call if that’s the case,” Jessica said worriedly.
“How can I? He’s busy enough with work, I can’t bother him,” Joan replied.
“Come on, Joan. You should know that to Larry, you’re more important than anything else in the world,”
Jessica comforted her.
Joan couldn’t help but feel a little shy upon hearing that.
“To be frank, I really admire the relationship you share with Larry. I mean, you two are still lovey-dovey
even after so many years,” Jessica murmured.
No matter what happened between Larry and Joan in the past, they were always able to push through
all challenges and still love each other as before. Getting a divorce was the most serious incident in the
course of their marriage. Nonetheless, they eventually got back together and still love one another.
“There’s nothing to admire about because you and Caspian will live together happily as well,” Joan
added.
Even though Caspian wasn’t a romantic man, he was definitely a caring man. Just that trait alone
would have gotten him the approval of many women.
In fact, there were a lot of mature women who had taken the initiative to court Caspian in the past.
However, none of them had managed to capture his heart until Jessica came along.
“Joan, can you tell me what kind of a man Caspian was in the past? I mean, he’s never told me
anything about his past,” Jessica asked impatiently while sitting down next to Joan and grabbing her
arm tightly.
Well…
Joan was hesitant to share it with Jessica because a part of Caspian’s past was related to Nancy.
No, I should let Caspian tell his own story to her.
“You should ask him directly if you want to know. I don’t know too much about him, after all.” Joan
shrugged.
“Come on, Joan. Please tell me about it. Since I like you so much, just share it with me.” Tugging on
Joan’s sleeves, Jessica gazed at the former with the most innocent-looking face she could muster.
I almost can’t resist it when she acts cute like this! A moment later, Joan flashed Jessica a smile and
gently shook her head in response.
“What’s with you? Can’t you be more polite toward Joan?” said Caspian loudly as he suddenly came up
to them.
Urgh… He’s yelling at me again! The next moment, Jessica sprang up and walked over to him.
“How dare you talk to me like that?” She glared at him.
“Please spare me from embarrassment in front of Joan. Once she’s gone, you can punish me however
you want, okay?” Caspian nudged her gently and pled.
Fine! All men wish to preserve their dignity. Jessica relaxed and stop acting coldly.
“Alright, I’ve got to get going now. There’s a lot of work at home that I have to do.” Joan gave them an
excuse to leave.
She didn’t want to stay here any longer to be their third wheel. Besides, she knew that Caspian and
Jessica were always acting lovey-dovey to each other whenever there was no one around. As such,
she didn’t want to bother them too much.
“Joan, wait for me! Let me drive you home!” As he spoke, Caspian started toward her.
Feeling displeased, Jessica caught his necktie, forcing him to stop.
“What are you doing? Let go of me. I have to drive Joan home,” Caspian said immediately.
“There’s no need for you to drive Joan home,” she huffed.
“Come now, stop messing around. I promised Larry to protect her.”
“It’s fine. You guys just carry on. I’ll go home on my own. Don’t worry about me!” Standing some
distance away, Joan raised her voice so that she could be heard. Jessica chuckled delightedly upon
hearing that.
“See, Joan doesn’t need you to drive her home,” Jessica said playfully.
“You naughty woman!” Caspian pinched her face gently before planting a kiss on it.
“Is everything fine?” Joan asked in a lowered voice in her room.
Chapter 2442
“Everything’s fine, but I still need more time to complete it,” Larry answered.
“I see,” Joan replied.
Larry could sense Joan’s sadness and helplessness over the phone, and he instantly felt guilty.
“How are you today? Are you unhappy?” Larry asked directly.
“Nope, I’m fine. By the way, I have some good news to share with you. Caspian and Jessica are dating!
But they are keeping it as a secret for now,” Joan said excitedly.
Hearing that, Larry was still as composed as ever. After all, he had guessed that Jessica would end up
with Caspian sooner or later.
“Do you miss me?” Larry blurted suddenly.
Joan froze, not knowing what she ought to reply.
Of course I miss him! I even dreamt about him when I was sleeping. Alas, he isn’t by my side now.
“I do, but you have to finish your work first before coming home,” Joan replied hurriedly.
Larry was greatly comforted by her answer, and his lips curled into a grin. She truly understands me!
“Sure, I’ll be right back once I’ve finished everything,” Larry replied.
They chatted for a little longer before ending the call. As Joan gazed at the crescent moon from the
window, her mind wandered into deep thoughts.
“Joan, let’s eat some fruits!” Delilah called out suddenly.
“Alright,” Joan replied.
“Mom, what’s wrong? Are you feeling down? Do you miss Dad?” Lucius asked from the couch he was
sitting on.
Why does this kid know everything? Joan took the boy into her arms, tapped on his forehead lightly,
and smiled.
“You really know everything. Come and have some fruits.” She picked up a piece of apple and stuffed it
into his mouth.
“Well, I know a lot because I observe a lot of things. By the way, a boy in my class is fond of a girl.
They always go home together after school…” Lucius said blandly.
Joan and Delilah had the urge to laugh upon hearing it.
My gosh, they’re just kids, and yet, they are in a relationship already? I guess the era has changed
now, huh.
“Well, what about you? Any girl caught your fancy?” Joan probed.
“Me? Of course not! I aspire to be a scientist when I grow up! I don’t have the time to think about this
kind of thing!” Lucius exclaimed as though he was worried that they wouldn’t believe him.
The two adults were relieved to hear that. Although they believed that Lucius was a good student in
school, that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t pestered by girls at school.
“That being said, there is a girl who always plays with me, and she’s rather pretty…” Lucius hesitated.
“Larry, when will you be back?” Caspian asked hurriedly over the phone.
Since it had been a long time, he was worried that something untoward would happen to Larry when he
was abroad. Given that the situation abroad was way more complicated, Caspian understood that it
wouldn’t be easy for Larry to solve the problems.
“I still need some time,” Larry answered.
Indeed, the problem turned out to be way more complex than what Larry had imagined.
“Larry, you must tell me if you’re facing any trouble, okay? Joan and I are worried about you.”
“Alright, I get it. I’ve got to get going now.” With that, Larry hung up the phone.
In truth, Larry was a little anxious lately. He initially thought that he could solve all problems within
several days. He never expected that the overseas manufacturer, Mr. Lancaster, had disappeared.
Everyone said that he had escaped, but Larry didn’t believe the rumors.
“Young man, you should go home. He’s not coming back,” an old man came up to Larry and persuaded
him.
“Since it has come to this, he would only be asking for punishment if he comes back,” he added.
Chapter 2443
Although what the elder man said made sense, Larry believed that Mr. Lancaster wasn’t an ungrateful
man.
Many days had passed, yet Larry still stayed in the hotel near Mr. Lancaster’s house to wait for his
return.
As for Mr. Lancaster, he had indeed gotten himself in a tragic situation. He was betrayed, not by an
outsider but by his own brother.
To be exact, he was framed by his own brother. Previously, Mr. Lancaster’s brother had tried many
times to get rid of him so that the former could own the entire factory, but his plans had failed every
time. It was only due to Mr. Lancaster letting down his guard that he fell for his brother’s trap this time.
Naturally, Larry had no idea about the feud happening in Mr. Lancaster’s family and never had any
information about his brother. As such, he had no choice but to wait for Mr. Lancaster to show up. Even
if Larry were to take the initiative to find Mr. Lancaster’s brother, it would have been futile, for the man
always hid behind the scenes.
“Why are you still waiting here? I suggest that you stop waiting. Who knows, perhaps he has died long
ago,” an old lady came up to him slowly and said.
“Indeed. Since the situation is rather chaotic here, we sometimes don’t even know if someone is dead
already. You should go back and stop wasting your time,” another old lady added.
If he’s really dead, who will be in charge of everything in his company? Larry felt that something was
off.
“Since his business is still here, I don’t think he will die so easily,” Larry murmured to himself.
The two old ladies chuckled.
“Young man, don’t you know that he has a brother? If he’s really dead, his brother will take over the
company.”
“She’s right. Who knows, maybe it was his brother who caused all this mess.”
Instantly, Larry had his guard up upon hearing that.
“Ma’am, can you tell me where his brother is now?” Larry immediately asked.
“We have no idea because his brother rarely shows himself. However, whenever he does, he likes to
make a grand entrance.” With that, the two old ladies left.
As Larry watched their retreating figures, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind. He immediately
took out his phone and made a call.
“Hello, may I speak to…”
“I’m sorry, our boss isn’t here.” The receptionist wanted to hang up as soon as she finished.
“What about your boss’s brother, then?” Larry added.
The receptionist was stunned for a moment.
“I-I’m sorry, but I’m busy.” The receptionist hastily hung up.
Judging from her tone, I’m sure his brother is in the company!
Indeed, what Larry guessed was true.
“Mr. Matthew, someone’s looking for you,” the receptionist ran hastily into the office and said.
“Who?” The man in the office asked.
“I don’t know. He didn’t tell me his name.”
“Okay, I got it. You may leave now,” he said, waving his hand.
Meanwhile, Larry headed to their company without hesitation.
“I want to meet your boss,” Larry said politely.
“I’m sorry, sir. But you can’t enter without an appointment.” The receptionist stopped him.
“Miss, please understand one thing. I am not your customer, and I came all the way from another
country. I don’t need an appointment!” Larry was insistent on entering the office.
“Sir, I’ll have to call the police if you insist,” the lady yelled.
Does she think I’ll be scared off by her threat? What a joke? Since when have I been afraid of cops?
“I told you, I am your company’s partner. Do you hear me?”
Larry brushed her hand away and entered the office.
Bang! The door to the office was flung open abruptly. The next moment, Larry walked into the room,
emanating a ferocious aura.
“Who are you? How dare you barge into my office like this?” the man in the office questioned.
“I could ask you the same thing. Are you Mr. Lancaster’s brother?” Larry ignored the man’s question
and got straight to the point.
“Young man, don’t be so hasty. Come and have some tea. I’ve just made it. I’m sure you’ll love it,” the
man said calmly.
Chapter 2444
What’s he trying to do? Does he want to drag this on? I won’t fall for such tricks.
“You can explain it to me now. Why exactly was the company losing so much money previously?” he
asked.
“They said something about the product being rejected. What’s that about? You have to understand
that you guys are the source of my merchandise. If you run into any problems, we’ll suffer because of it
too. I just need you to answer one question. Can we still cooperate or not?” shouted Larry.
Although he had said a lot, his words all made sense. He was someone who took the company’s
reputation very seriously. Thus, no matter what they did, they could not deceive the consumers. It was
both a principle he lived by and his bottom line.
“Mr. Norton, don’t panic. We can discuss anything. There’ll always be a solution to it,” the man replied
as he poured himself some tea.
“Then tell me, how do we resolve it?” Larry asked.
It was clear to him then that the supposed younger brother of the boss that was right in front of him did
not want to get involved in those matters.
“That’s a very good question. So how do we solve it? Of course, it’s to let the person in charge handle
it. You can go and look for whoever made you that promise. It’s that simple,” the man replied.
“I haven’t been able to contact Mr. Lancaster recently, have you?”
Ignoring Larry, the man sipped on his tea and closed his eyes as he savored it, looking as if he were
enjoying himself.
“Sorry, Mr. Norton, I haven’t been able to contact my brother for a long time too. If I could, I wouldn’t be
here in the office handling company matters now.”
Hearing his words, Larry became speechless.
Does this even count as “handling company matters?” That’s ridiculous! Larry snorted coldly.
As he had expected, in the end, the matter did not get resolved in any way. Even as he exited the
company and walked down the road, he kept contemplating the situation.
Where exactly did the boss of that manufacturing company go to? Why’s there still no news after so
long? He could not put his finger on it. Under normal circumstances, that man would usually notify him
no matter what happened. However, he just disappeared for no reason this time.
He felt slightly uneasy about it.
“Get lost! How dare you eat here when you don’t have any money!” Not far away, a waiter was shouting
at someone.
By the door, a beggar dressed in rags was on the ground, looking embarrassed.
“I want food. I’m hungry…” he held his hands together as he said weakly.
“You’re hungry? Go somewhere else to beg!” replied the waiter as he began to hit and kick the beggar.
“Stop it!” Larry shouted, his tone bitter.
He looked down the most on those who bullied the weak just because they were stronger.
“What would you like to eat, sir? You can order inside,” the waiter immediately said, smiling as he
bowed.
What a fraud! He was so vicious just moments ago, but he’s now acting like a bootlicker.
“Are you okay, sir?” Larry said as he hurriedly helped the beggar to his feet.
However, the old man did not dare look up at him, and his body was even trembling a little.
“Prepare a room for me,” he turned around and said loudly to the waiter.
Then, as he helped the man in, he said, “Come. I’ll treat you to a meal. Don’t worry. They won’t hit you
again.”
However, the old man did not have any intention to enter.
“Thank you, young man,” he said, preparing to run off.
Why’s his voice so familiar? He looked at the man’s face doubtfully.
Isn’t he…
As soon as he realized who the man was, Larry was taken aback.
“Mr. Lancaster, let’s talk inside. Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone,” he promised.
The man then raised his head to look at Larry as tears welled up in his eyes.
He had never expected that the person who would eventually come to help him was not his family or
relatives. Instead, it was just one of his business partners.
“Thank you, Mr. Norton,” he replied, touched.
Chapter 2445
In the private room of the restaurant, the two men sat beside each other in silence. The server was
shocked when he was met with that scene and wanted to say something but decided not to after
considering it for a while.
“What’s going on? Why’s there a beggar in there?”
“Who knows? Anyway, I think they’re both not as simple as they seem.”
“Really? Although it is strange how such a handsome man got to know a beggar.”
Several servers were discussing the situation in a corner outside the room, whispering to one another
with complex expressions on their faces.
“You’re hungry, right? Please eat up. We can order more if there’s not enough,” Larry said.
Looking at the table full of dishes, the other man swallowed, seemingly very excited.
“Thank you, Mr. Norton. I’ll start eating then.” Subsequently, he dug into his meal.
What exactly did he go through? Why has he suddenly become like this? He looks so dirty and
helpless. In the past, he was always someone highly respected and would always keep his word. What
happened to him? Lost in his thoughts, Larry looked curiously at the man in front of him.
A long time later, the dishes on the table had become mostly empty. The man held his belly as he
leaned back on the chair, looking comfortable and satisfied.
“Are you full? Otherwise, I can…”
“No, Mr. Norton, I’ve had enough. Thank you for this. You’re the most righteous friend I’ve ever made in
this lifetime,” the man replied in a low voice.
“So, what exactly happened? Why aren’t you in the company? Shouldn’t you be in the office trying to
deal with the recent accidents?” Larry asked, puzzled.
The man’s eyes instantly dulled. In reality, kinship was the most heartwarming thing in the world but
was also the most hurtful.
I’d once regarded my brother as my only family in the world. However, he betrayed me and even
wanted to kill me. I was so stupid! I’d forgiven whatever he previously did to me so many times. But this
time, I can’t tolerate it anymore!
“I was set up by Matthew. He’s actually my biological brother but tried to kill me because he wanted my
company. That’s why I disappeared for a long time,” Malcolm explained.
He’s really a wolf in sheep’s clothing! Larry clenched his fist as a fierce look flashed across his eyes.
“Now what? What do you plan to do?” he asked.
“I have to go back, of course. I need to take back whatever’s mine!” Malcolm replied loudly.
Good! I trusted a good man! Larry broke into a satisfied smile before he suddenly said, “I can help you.”
Help me? I’m just one of your overseas business partners. Malcolm glanced at him for a moment but
did not speak.
“If you trust me, Mr. Lancaster, you can tell me what you plan to do next. I’ll do it for you,” Larry said.
Thereafter, the two men had a long conversation about Malcolm’s plans, at the end of which they came
to a decision.
“Okay, let’s do that first. Rest assured, Mr. Lancaster, if it’s meant to be yours, no one can take it away
from you. If it’s not, it never will be,” said Larry lightly.
He’s right; the company’s something I singlehandedly created by myself after all! Malcolm’s gaze
instantly became firm with determination.
“Do you have somewhere to stay?” Larry asked.
“No, but I can just sleep on the streets. Don’t worry. My body can handle it.”
“No way. I’ll book a room for you. Aren’t you afraid that Mr. Matthew will find you if you sleep on the
streets?” he purposely reminded the man.
After pondering for a long time, Malcolm eventually followed Larry back to the hotel he was staying at.
“If you need anything, give me a call. I can help you find a solution.” Instantly, Malcolm was touched by
his words.
“Thank you.” I didn’t think that Mr. Matthew was this vicious! He even dares to do this to his own
brother! Larry shook his head and sighed.
Chapter 2446
Many weird things were going on that year.
Back at home, Joan and the others were living very peacefully and happily. There were not many
worries or disturbances in their lives.
“Help me put this pot over there,” said Delilah as she pointed to an open space not too far away.
“Sure,” Joan replied.
“Bad mood? Give Larry a call then!” Delilah purposely said.
“He’s really busy.”
“Is his work more important, or his woman?” Delilah asked.
At that time, Larry was having a conversation with Malcolm. “What do you plan to do, Mr. Lancaster?”
asked Larry.
I don’t believe that guy will just stop here.
“I need time. I have to wait. There’re some of my people on the board of directors. They’re all my good
friends and won’t compromise with him easily. But what I’m worried about most is that they’ll think I’m
dead since I can’t appear in front of them right now,” said Malcolm.
He was willing to be honest as he trusted Larry to some extent. After all, Larry had provided him help
when he was at his lowest point, proving that he was a good man.
“Okay, what do you need me to do?” Larry asked.
Malcolm looked at the man with a gaze full of gratitude.
“Mr. Norton, I’ll have to trouble you during this period of time then. I’ve already sent my family overseas,
so I don’t have to worry about anything else now. I need some people to help me investigate the truth.
Only when it comes to light can I openly go back to my company.”
Larry understood Malcolm’s words very well.
Everyone had their times of trouble and had times when they were wronged. Naturally, he would not
harm the man when he was already at a bad stage of his life. Furthermore, he believed that Malcolm
would be able to return to his company.
“Why don’t you help me investigate this one guy,” Malcolm said, handing a photo over to Larry. Just like
that, the two began their investigations in the hotel room.
“But you have to be careful. These people are cunning. If they notice anything, they won’t let you off
that easily,” said Malcolm.
“Sure, no problem,” replied Larry as he walked to the window, squinting into the distance.
Joan, you have to wait for me! Larry’s affectionate thoughts were mixed with some sadness.
Naturally, Malcolm noticed it. “Is something bothering you?” he suddenly asked.
“I’m fine,” replied Larry as he turned around and smiled.
The only thing he was troubled about was Joan. He had promised her that he would return as soon as
possible but had not expected that he would meet with such a situation.
As the days passed, Larry was still busy investigating overseas while Joan looked forward to reuniting
with him back at home.
“Mom, when’s Dad coming back?” asked Lucius as he snuggled in Joan’s arms. When she raised her
head at his question, there was a helpless expression on her face.
She herself did not know when he would be back. She missed him a lot.
“Be good. Dad’s very busy now. When he’s done with his work, he’ll come back to spend time with you,
okay?” she replied gently as she kissed him on the forehead.
For some reason, without Larry around, she always felt like something was missing in the house.
Is it about time I agree to remarry him? There was a flicker of expectation in her eyes.
Suddenly, Lucius raised his head and asked seriously, “Mom, did you and Dad get a divorce?”
Instantly, Joan was flustered.
How did he know? We clearly kept it a secret! She stared at the child in her arms, surprised.
“Why did you suddenly ask about this?” she replied, acting as if it was such an unbelievable thing to
ask.
“Because when I cleaned your room the other day, I saw the divorce papers,” he replied with a hint of
sadness in his gaze.
Oh my god, why was I so careless! He actually discovered such an important document!
Chapter 2447
At that moment, Joan did not know how to reply. She wanted to tell Lucius that there was a possibility
of them remarrying, and that possibility was huge. After all, the divorce back then was all an accident.
However, she was afraid that once she said those words, her child would think that marriage was just a
game.
“It’s okay, Mom. You don’t need to keep it from me. I’ve grown up. I understand.”
She ran her fingers through his hair, feeling somewhat guilty in her heart.
She longed to tell him that no matter what, they would always love him. However, at that moment, she
did not have the courage to say such a thing.
“What are the two of you doing?” asked Delilah suddenly as she walked into the room.
“Hey,” greeted Joan.
“Hi Grandma,” said Lucius.
“Look, I got this for you, Lucius. Does it smell good?” asked Delilah as she took out a box of baked
chicken wings.
“Wow, it smells so good! You’re the best, Grandma!” he shouted happily.
“Come on, what are you saying? Are you saying that I was bad last time?” she deliberately replied.
Upon watching that scene, Joan smiled slightly.
If only Larry were here too. She gazed at the dark sky outside, feeling somewhat sorrowful.
“What are you doing, Joan? Come and eat. Stop thinking about your husband. He’s a grown man that
went overseas. What could happen to him? Just take good care of yourself first!” said Delilah.
Hearing her words, Lucius giggled.
“Grandma, does this mean that Mom and Dad still have a chance of getting back together?” he asked.
His question startled Delilah.
He knew about it? She gave Joan a questioning look but only got a silent nod in reply.
“You little brat. How do you know about everything? Don’t worry, Dad and Mom will definitely still be
together in the end,” said Delilah as she gently stroked his hair while smiling.
Instantly, there was an excited look on Lucius’ face, and his mood improved greatly.
Knock, knock, knock! The knocks on the door were quick and urgent. The three people in the dining
room looked at one another questioningly with complicated expressions on their faces.
Who’d come here this late? Joan slowly exited the dining room before Delilah suddenly spoke. “Joan!
Take Lucius back to the room. I’ll get the door.”
She was afraid that someone was there to purposely make things difficult for Joan. Although Joan
hesitated, she eventually agreed and took Lucius back to the room.
“Who is it?” Delilah asked. The knocks became more intense, but there was no reply from outside.
“Who are you? If you don’t say anything, I won’t open the door!” she shouted.
Meanwhile, in the room, Lucius asked, “Mom, why do we have to hide?”
However, Joan was speechless at his question, for she could not tell him that it was just for precaution.
She understood very clearly that many people wanted to confront her.
“Be good, Lucius. You’ll understand next time,” she replied in a low voice.
“It’s me!” From outside the door, Gabriella shouted coldly.
Delilah was relieved when she heard the familiar voice but was still confused. Why does her voice
sound so cold? Is she here to cause trouble? But she’d already lost her memories, so probably not.
Delilah shook her head, attempting to clear her thoughts before opening the door.
“Joan!” shouted Gabriella as she immediately rushed in.
“Ms. Ward, why are you here so late?” asked Delilah hurriedly. Judging by her attitude, Gabriella was
not up to anything good.
“Where’s Joan? Where did she go?” Gabriella shouted coldly.
Delilah shot her a suspicious look. She was fine previously, so why does she seem like a different
person now? Also, who provoked her? Was it Joan? No, that’s impossible. Joan’s so gentle and kind,
and she’d hoped that she would never have to meet this woman ever again. She can’t be the one who
provoked Gabriella.
Chapter 2448
“Ms. Ward, it’s too late tonight. You’d better come back tomorrow!” Delilah said, purposely avoiding her
question.
“I asked you where’s Joan. Are you deaf? Answer my question!” Gabriella shouted in reply.
As soon as she said that, Delilah got annoyed. Although she was treating Gabriella very politely, that
woman had started to scream and shout as soon as she arrived.
“Are you done, Gabriella? This is my house. Please get out. Now!” Delilah shouted back.
Shocked by the expected scolding, Gabriella unconsciously stepped backward.
How dare she raise her voice at me! Then, pretending to be calm, she slowly walked toward Delilah.
“Ms. Young, you’d better hand Joan over to me tonight. Otherwise, I won’t leave,” she said as she
headed over to sit on the sofa, acting as if she had every right to.
She’s crazy! I can’t believe she dares to do this. Delilah rubbed her hands together in nervousness as
she replied, “Joan isn’t here. You should go.” As if.
Gabriella then looked at Delilah and sneered. This old woman’s actually trying to lie to me? How
laughable.
“Tell me then. Where is she?” Gabriella asked deliberately.
“I don’t know either. Anyway, she’s not here. She probably went abroad with Larry.”
Hearing her answer, Gabriella clenched her fists as she stared at Delilah with a bitter gaze.
“Don’t lie to me, Ms. Young. She must be here! Larry went abroad to handle company matters. Why on
earth would she go there?” said Gabriella cockily.
However, as she studied her surroundings, Gabriella did not find anything amiss. Resultantly, she was
somewhat upset.
She had originally planned to go over, take Joan away, then deal with her. However, it seemed as
though Joan had long run away.
“Anything else? I need to rest. Please leave,” said Delilah hurriedly.
She did not want to waste her time talking to Gabriella any longer.
“Look, it’s already so late, so it won’t be safe for me to go back alone. Why don’t I stay here for tonight
and go back tomorrow?”
However, Delilah did not care about whatever she was saying and directly dragged her outside.
“Leave, now! We don’t welcome you here!” she shouted as she grabbed Gabriella’s elbow, pulling her
toward the door.
“What are you trying to do!” shouted Gabriella.
The two women pulled back and forth in this manner, their respective auras fierce as they continued to
argue.
“I’m only here for Joan. Don’t take it too far!” Gabriella shouted.
“Exactly who’s the one taking things too far? This is my house. Whatever I say, counts!”
Back in the room, Lucius had been listening to whatever was happening outside. He looked at Joan in
shock and fear.
“Be good, Lucius. Listen to me. Just stay in the room, okay? Don’t go out until I come back for you,”
said Joan gently as she patted him on the shoulder.
“Okay, Mom. I will,” he replied, nodding firmly in resolution.
What a good boy. Then, she sighed and stood up slowly, tidying her clothes before she left the room.
Bam! As soon as the room door slammed shut, the living room was instantly silent.
Looking at Joan, who had appeared out of nowhere, a wicked smile appeared on Gabriella’s face.
“You’re finally out. I’d thought you were really like that b*stard who only knows how to hide forever,” she
said, her expression full of disdain.
“Why are you looking for me?” Joan asked straightforwardly.
Delilah walked over to Joan and asked dissatisfiedly, “Why did you come out?”
Chapter 2449
She had to come out to the living room. Otherwise, Delilah might be in danger if she were to leave her
alone with Gabriella.
Sitting on the couch, Gabriella had her legs crossed and looked at her disdainfully. “So tell me, why do
you want to get close to Larry? When did you get together with him?”
Joan had long anticipated this situation ever since the day she knew that Gabriella had memory loss.
By the time she starts to recover bits of her memory, she’ll still be the crazy, stubborn woman she had
been during our first encounter. And later, history will repeat itself. She’ll harm me deliberately and
make my life difficult, just like what she had done to me previously. No matter how long she suffers
from amnesia, her personality remains as it is.
“Gabriella, I see you’ve remembered the past. Since you’ve asked, I’ll tell you the answer then. I’ve
always loved Larry, and he also loves me as well,” Joan responded.
After hearing her reply, Gabriella stood up, getting even more furious. This damned woman! How dare
she snatches my man away!
The glass of water on the coffee table was then thrown to the ground, smashing into pieces.
Delilah was taken aback for a brief moment before walking towards her with a stern gaze.
“Gabriella, what on earth do you think you’re doing?” she reprimanded loudly.
“I’m not doing anything. I’m just unhappy. Why are you getting all riled up? It’s just a cheap glass
anyway,” Gabriella taunted.
What an ill-mannered madwoman!
Delilah could no longer stand her attitude. “You! Get out of my house now! Get out!”
“Ms. Young, you’d better calm down. Otherwise, this village might not belong to you guys anymore,”
Gabriella goaded, picking on her fingers nonchalantly.
Delilah immediately fell silent as her brows furrowed deeply. She knew that with the wealth of the Ward
family, they could buy the village in a snap of a finger.
“I’ve answered your question, Gabriella. What else do you want to know?” Joan chimed in.
Upon hearing her voice, Gabriella turned towards her and narrowed her eyes. “Joan, tell me the reason
why you can be so shameless to the point that you would steal someone else’s boyfriend?”
Her question took Joan by surprise, but she quickly composed herself and refused to answer her.
Since when did I steal her boyfriend? All these years, Larry has never ever said that Gabriella is his
girlfriend.
Seeing that Joan was not answering, she continued, “Was it fun to be the one who breaks us up?”
“Gabriella, you’ve crossed the line.” Joan had had enough of her.
Before this, Delilah treated her nicely because she wanted the two of them to solve the problem
peacefully. However, there was no point in doing that now that she had known that Gabriella was just
an ingrate who was concerned only with her own welfare and interests without regard for others.
Gabriella let out a scoff. “I’ve crossed the line? Why don’t you say that to yourself? Joan, did I ever do
anything wrong to you? Why do you have to snatch my man from me?”
What a ludicrous joke. ”Gabriella, let’s get one thing perfectly clear. Larry and I have been married for
many years. The reason why you’re so worked up now is that you’ve just recovered part of your
memory!” Joan raised her voice.
Gabriella shuddered at the mention of her amnesia.
Indeed, I’ve lost my memory not long ago. Had I already been aware of the fact that they’ve gotten
together in the past? But that’s impossible. I’m the one Larry loves!
With that thought in mind, her denial quickly morphed into anger, and she lashed out, “Joan Watts! I
don’t care! What I know is that Larry has never loved you, and I’m the one he loves!”
Joan stared at her incredulously. This woman has gone bonkers! For a few times, Larry had told her
that he did not have any feelings for her, but she had totally misinterpreted his words.
“If it weren’t for you, I’d have married him a long time ago! It’s all because of you. Joan, even my
memory loss was caused by you!” As Gabriella spoke, she grabbed a fruit knife from the table at the
side and pointed it at Joan.
When Delilah saw her picking up the knife, she immediately tried to calm her down, “Ms. Ward, calm
down. It’s not what you think. Relax. Put down the knife, okay?”
Instantly, the tension in the living room was so thick that one could cut it with a knife. This scene was all
too familiar to Joan. She gave her a cold smirk and looked at Gabriella indifferently.
Chapter 2450
“Gabriella, do you remember how you lost your baby? That day, just like in this very second, you took a
knife and stabbed it right into your stomach. Later, you used your miscarriage to frame me when in fact,
it was you who killed your own child!” Joan yelled.
What a cruel woman. She could even sacrifice an unborn child for her own benefit.
After a few seconds, it eventually sank in, and Gabriella’s hands started to shake uncontrollably. Her
memories of that day came back to her like a flood, overwhelming her. Yes, I was the one who ended
my baby’s life. It was me.
“My baby!” Defeated, she staggered and slumped onto the floor as tears began to well up in her eyes.
Phew, she finally regrets her inhumane doing. Taking a deep breath, Joan tried to calm herself down.
“My baby is gone. It’s all my fault. My baby,” Gabriella bellowed in agony.
After a while, she sprang up to her feet all of a sudden and glared furiously at Joan, who was standing
not far away from her, roaring, “No! It’s because of Joan! It’s her fault!”
Sensing the danger, Joan immediately kept her guard up and mentally prepared herself for an attack
from Gabriella, who had gone insane.
“Joan! You pathetic b*tch! My baby wouldn’t die if it weren’t for you. This is all your fault!” The next
second, Gabriella charged towards her with the knife in her hand.
When the blade was about to sink into Joan’s body, her body suddenly went limp and fell to the ground.
Thud!
Standing behind her, Delilah was holding a flowerpot in her trembling hands. When she saw Gabriella
lying on the floor motionlessly, her eyes were filled with terror instantly, and she started to
hyperventilate.
“Ms. Young?” Joan called gently, trying to snap her out of her trance.
Upon hearing her, Delilah jolted and looked at Joan helplessly. “Huh? I… S-She isn’t dead, is she?”
Joan rubbed Delilah’s back soothingly for a moment before squatting down to check Gabriella’s breath
under her nose. Fortunately, she was still breathing.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Young. She’s okay,” Joan said reassuringly.
Just then, Lucius came out of his room and ran towards them. “Mom! What happened? Why is she on
the floor?”
“Come here, Lucius. Go back to your room and let mommy settle this first, alright?” Smiling at him,
Joan held his hand and brought him into the room again. Then, she immediately fished out her phone
to dial the emergency number.
An hour later, Gabriella lay on the hospital bed with her eyes closed. The nurse had put her on an
intravenous drip, and she was looking rather frail. Joan sat on the couch at the side with her eyes
pinned on her, afraid that she would miss the slightest twitch.
Thank God she’s not heavily injured. Otherwise, Ms. Young would have to go to jail. Joan heaved a
sigh of relief, feeling exhausted.
A moment later, a doctor came into the room. She walked over to him hurriedly and asked, “Doctor,
how’s her condition?”
“Nothing too serious. Luckily, it was not the temples. If not, she would be in great danger.” Then, he
continued, “Don’t worry. She can be discharged after a few days. Just don’t her do anything reckless
again and keep her safe. Her amnesia from her previous head injury hasn’t completely recovered yet.
Therefore, if she suffers from a traumatic brain injury again, there’s a chance she might not be able to
regain her lost memories permanently.”
With that, the doctor turned and left.
Well, I do hope that this woman would never be able to remember anything from the past. How good it
is if she no longer throws tantrums and makes everyone’s life difficult.
After a long while, Gabriella stirred in her sleep and mumbled, “Larry…”
Who? Larry? Curious, Joan stepped closer to the bed and listened in.
Even now, she’s still thinking about Larry. Tsk tsk! What a foolish woman. Joan shook her head wryly.
“Larry!” Gabriella suddenly woke up and sat bolt upright, terrified by her dream.
“Gabriella, are you okay? Do you want some water?” Joan queried tentatively, afraid that she might
take Gabriella by surprise.
“Joan? Why are you here? B*tch, you’ve taken Larry away from me, and now you even want to harm
me in the hospital?” Gabriella hollered.
Am I really that evil? She looks at me as if I’m a witch. Joan shot her a dirty look and said nothing.
