Chapter 1186

the building

Celine, the maid, followed her outside but stopped in front of the gate. Sherry and John were left behind in the spacious living room alone. John put the cup of tea on the table after a few sips and looked at her.

Annoyed by his gaze, she snapped, “What?” John pursed his lips. “Did they not train you how to be a servant properly?” “They did,” she said.

In actuality , Emerence had gotten so mad that she left. The rule book and employee guidelines were so thick that Sherry got annoyed and threw them away. John frowned. “And this is how you work?”

He refused to believe her and found her work sloppy. Sherry crossed her arms. “If you don't like how | work, fire me then.”

If he was waiting for her to lower herself to serve him like a king, he was dreaming.

John smiled. “You want me to fire you? Keep on dreaming.” Sherry‘s eyes flickered in surprise. ‘Damn it. Did he read my mind?

John looked at her. “Pour me another cup of tea.”

Chapter 1187 Sherry stood still.

John smiled. “Don’t you want to have lunch?”

Sherry sighed. She picked up the teapot and filled his cup with tea.

When the cup was filled , John extended his hand to the air. “Bring it to me.”

Sherry wanted to splash the tea onto his face, but for the sake of indulging in the delicious lunch at the employee canteen , Sherry carefully passed him the cup full of tea.

John finished it in a few gulps and continued reading the newspaper. Sherry furrowed her brows. He had said earlier that he was going to work, yet he was reading the newspaper after Shannon left.

As the question continued to baffle her, John demanded,” Another cup.”

Sherry sulked. He really treated her as a servant! Nevertheless, she sighed and poured him another cup of tea. Some time went by and John showed no intention of leaving, so Sherry asked, “John, how much is my pay?” John looked at her. “Why are you asking?”

Sherry glared at him. “Aren’t you going to pay me?”

He curled his lips. “Of course not. | might be a businessman, but | always treat my employees well.” Her eyes glimmered. “Then, how much are you paying me?”

John looked at her with an enchanting grin. “The pay will be deducted from the eight hundred million you owe me.” Sherry’s hope fizzled out, and she choked on her words.

She recovered her composure after a while. Feigning a polite smile, she continued, “I still need to know how much | am getting monthly.” “It’s not necessary.” John sipped on his cup of tea. “Even if | pay you the highest among all the employees, you still won't be able to pay me back even if you work here for your entire life.”

A

Sherry was silenced. ‘What an evil tyrant!”

She pursed her lips and looked outside the window.

John glanced at her and then continued reading his newspaper.

The living room returned to silence.

Awhile later, Sherry started to get curious about whether he would leave for work. She asked, “Aren’t you going to work? Why are you still here?”

John’s gaze turned cold. “Do you want me to leave that much?”

If he left, she could move around freely, so the answer was self-explanatory. After all, there was no way she enjoyed serving him tea.

However, for some reason, he sounded scary, so Sherry immediately rearranged her words. “I... It’s just that | am getting tired from all the standing. If you leave, | can sit down.”

John glanced at her hip and legs that she had injured before. His frosty expression softened a little.

“Pour me another cup of tea.”

Sherry pouted but reluctantly poured him another cup of tea.

John finished the cup of tea in one gulp and then got up. He walked towards Sherry all of a sudden, scaring her to falter backward.

She looked at him cautiously and said, “What are you trying to do?” John continued to approach her. Sherry was forced to the downward stairs in front of the entrance, and she had to move to the side to avoid falling down.

John glanced at her. He picked up his jacket from the rack by the door and walked out. Before he left, he said, “. Don’t think of leaving early before your schedule is up, or you won't get anything to eat tomorrow.” Sherry pursed her lips.

After he left, she went back to get the plate of snacks and headed out to the yard to enjoy them. She refused to sit in the same space where he and Shannon sat.

Chapter 1188 While she was enjoying her snack by the flowers, Shannon’s maid, Celine, came by.

She looked at Sherry coldly. “Who allowed you to eat the master’s leftovers? Don’t you know we are not allowed to touch master’s things?!” Sherry ignored her and continued munching on the snack. She pinched a soft pastry and wobbled it in front of her. “Do you want one?”

Celine’s expression changed. “I am not an imbecile who cannot follow rules like you!” Fine. More for her. Sherry continued to eat without even sparing an extra glance at Celine.

Celine watched her put the soft pastry into her mouth one after another. She gulped but irritation colored her features. She grunted and grumbled , “If Uncle Marlow and Aunt Emerence find out, you will be punished!”

Sherry glanced at her. “Last piece.”

“No! | don’t want it!” Celine turned her back on her.

Sherry scoffed and tossed the last piece into her mouth. After filling her stomach, she got up for a stretch and said, “John is not here. You don’t need to keep an eye on me here. Go do your stuff.”

Celine’s eyes flickered. “Who told you that | am watching

you?”

Sherry did not want to argue. She leaned back and lay on the bed of flowers with her hands behind her head.

Despite being annoyed by her attitude, Celine did not leave. She was worried that once she left, the woman would go into John’s room or cause trouble. Besides, she had orders from Shannon to keep an eye on Sherry.

Shannon came back in the afternoon with Julie. The two of them wore expensive and elegant dresses , evidently coming back from the social event.

When they came through the front gate, Sherry was eating fruits in the little pavilion in the yard. She snuck in the fruits from the canteen during lunch.

Both Shannon and Julie were stunned to see her eating. Sherry was surprised to see them too, but she continued eating the apple.

Celine rushed to them and said, “Madam, she has been eating since Master John left. She ate the snacks and dozed off in the yard without doing anything!”

Shannon and Julie were stunned to learn that Sherry had

done nothing but eat the whole day.

Julie glanced at Shannon and then said to Celine, “Ms. Fowler is responsible for taking care of John, and she’s Shannon’s sister. I'm in no position to comment.”

Celine then looked at Shannon in anticipation , hoping that she would teach Sherry a lesson.

Celine was actually furious. Not only did Sherry eat without any scruple, but she also did not do anything and pushed all the chores to her.

Shannon went silent for a few seconds. “Celine , Sherry might be a maid here, but she’s my sister and John’s personal maid. Why don’t you try to be tolerant with her?”

Celine was forced to stomach her grievance. Julie said, “Shannon, | have to go now.”

Shannon smiled and hummed a reply. Julie glanced at Sherry before she left.

Shannon’s smile disappeared , and she glared at Sherry coldly before she stomped into the house.

Chapter 1189 Celine chased after Shannon. “Madam, are you really just going to let her be?”

“Shut your mouth! Don’t you ever dare say something like that again!” Shannon shouted at her. Julie already made it clear that Sherry was John’s personal maid and Shannon’s sister by name.

No matter how much Shannon resented Sherry or hoped for her death, even if John was okay with it, laying a finger on her sister would damage her reputation, and the public would condemn her for hurting a family member. Shocked, Celine immediately covered her mouth.

The temperature started to plummet following the sun setting over the horizon.

Sherry got up and went out for a walk.

There was still some time until dinner, and she had no idea when John would come back, so she wanted to get some fresh air. Celine was by the front gate when Sherry came over. She glared at Sherry but was blatantly ignored.

Sherry went out of the gate and started wandering along

the main pathway with her hands pocketed.

“Ms. Fowler.”

A polite voice called her name from the back all of a sudden.

Having changed into a simple dress and covered in a shawl, Julie looked charming and gentle, especially with her hair tied back. She seemed to be unusually friendly as well.

Confused , Sherry cautiously asked, “Is there anything | can help you with, Mrs. Stockton?” “You don’t need to address me like that. Just call me Julie.” Julie went up to her. “You might be here with us as a servant, but | know how John feels about you, and | don’t see you as a servant either.” She certainly knew how to captivate hearts using her sweet words.

If Sherry was an innocent and inexperienced young girl, she would have believed Julie and become best friends with her. However, her instinct told her Julie was not a friend, but she had no idea why the woman would want to approach her.

Sherry hid her thoughts with a smile. “You are really nice. | wish that bastard John would be as kind as you.” Julie could still smile when she heard Sherry praising her, but when Sherry called John a bastard, her smile turned

cold. Fortunately, she recovered to her usual composure swiftly. She smiled. “Ms. Fowler, I’m sure John only does this because he cares about you.” Sherry’s eyes flickered. “John is not only a married man, but his wife is also my sister, and | don’t think it's appropriate for you to tell me that he cares about me.”

She could understand if Julie wanted to defend John, but the woman emphasized John’s feelings for her. What was she trying to achieve? Getting Sherry and John back together? Sherry’s gentle gaze shifted. “I didn’t mean it in an odd way. | just don’t want you to misunderstand him.”

“Oh, you don’t have to worry though. | know that bastard. | would never misunderstand his personality.” Julie’s gentle expression froze, but not because of what Sherry said. Sherry sensed the awkwardness, so she turned around and looked in the direction of Julie’s gaze.

The man was watching them elegantly in the cart. He wore a gray checkered suit as he slouched on the cart lazily. His lips seemingly curled into a smile, but there was no delight in his eyes behind those golden — framed glasses.

Sherry was caught by surprise. She quickly lifted her chin with her hands pocketed and looked at him arrogantly.

John smiled. “It seems like you had so much to eat in the day and intend to skip dinner.”

Chapter 1190 Sherry glared at him. The bastard was threatening her with meals again.

In the next second, the arrogance on Sherry’s face was replaced by a flattering smile. “Master John, what are you talking about? | don’t understand. | came out here to welcome you because | assumed you would be back around this hour. | happened to run into Julie here, so we chatted.”

She then turned to Julie. “Am | right, Julie?”

Julie's gentle expression froze for a moment. She forced herself to maintain her gentle smile and said to John,* Ms. Fowler is right. She came out here to welcome you home, and | bumped into her, so we chatted.”

John curled his lips when he heard Sherry claiming that she came out to welcome him. There was delight in his gaze when he looked at Sherry. He instructed the driver, “ Drive.”

The driver started the cart and drove closer to the ladies.

John glanced at Sherry when the cart stopped beside them. “Why are you standing there? Follow us.” He then lazily retracted his gaze from Sherry.

Sherry sulked and followed the cart inside.

Julie was left alone on the spot. When the cart and Sherry disappeared from her sight, she retracted her gaze and the gentleness on her face turned cold.

Sherry followed John’s cart to the front gate.

It was then that Shannon came running out. She wore a sweet smile and jumped into John’s arms as soon as his foot touched the ground.

“John, you're back!” Her voice was as sweet as sugar. Sherry averted her gaze to the sky to avoid the eyesore. John tapped Shannon’s shoulder and pushed her away. He smiled. “Did you go to the event with Mom and Julie?”

Shannon was slightly disappointed when he pushed her away, but his voice and gentle gaze reignited her ember of delight. She beamed at him and said, “I did. We came back in the afternoon.”

“How was it?”

Shannon recalled the respect and jealousy she saw on the people’s faces when they called her Mrs. Stockton. She widened her smile and said, “It was great, but | wasn’t that familiar with the people there, so Mom and Julie did all the talking.”

John pursed his lips. “It’s okay. You just have to attend more events with them.”

“| got it, John.”

Shannon wanted to curl her hands around John’s arm, but the man strode inside.

“Let's go have dinner.”

Shannon immediately followed him inside.

Sherry stayed back while looking up into the sky. She waited until their footsteps faded before she headed into the house. When she went into the living room and saw Shannon and John at the dining table, she stopped and looked away once more. That was, until Celine reluctantly informed her that John wanted her inside. “Sherry, the master is asking for you.”

Celine went in after delivering the message.

Sherry took a deep breath before she set foot inside.

John and Shannon sat elegantly opposite each other under the crystal chandelier. Celine was three meters away from them. Sherry pondered for a moment and decided to walk over to Celine.

John and Shannon noticed her entry.

Sherry ignored them and continued walking to Celine.

“Bring me a handkerchief,”John said all of a sudden. Sherry paused. She tightened her lips and reluctantly passed him a handkerchief.

John used it to wipe Shannon’s chin. Shannon was flustered when he touched her. Her face turned red. He smiled. “You got soup on your chin, but you are still beautiful.” 1

He then tossed the handkerchief on the table and glanced at Sherry. “Take it out to the trash.”
