Ch. 1286..1290
Chapter 1286 Flint's presence made the atmosphere much less stuffy than it had been before.
The meeting went exceptionally smoothly.
In just half an hour, the meeting was over. Odell adjourned the conference , took Flint into his arms, got up, and went out. Outside, Shermaine was talking to Cliff by the side.
Upon seeing him come out with Flint in his arms, she immediately showed an apologetic look. “Master Carter, I'm sorry. | didn't keep an eye on the young master.”
“It's fine,” Odell replied and walked straight past her while carrying Flint. Shermaine frowned as she watched Odell walk away. At that moment, Cliff smiled at her and said, “Didn't | tell you? Master Carter won't get angry. Go back to your station.”
Shermaine snapped back to her senses and smiled. “Yes, | didn't expect Master Carter to be so indulgent with the young master.”
She thought that he would be unhappy about the child interrupting his meeting.
Cliff laughed. “Flint is his son. Even if he causes trouble, Master Carter won't hold it against the boy. Don't think too much about it and go back to work.”
Shermaine pursed her lips. “Okay.”
While Cliff did not say anything else and walked in the direction Odell left, Shermaine took a breath and walked toward the elevator.
Not long after, an MPV stopped outside the gate.
Sylvia got down from the car and quickly walked inside. Jacob was right by the entrance of the building and hurriedly welcomed her when he saw her. Sylvia asked him, “Where's Flint? Is he inside?” Jacob replied, “Assistant Bogard said that the young master broke into the conference room. Master Carter brought him back to the office.”
Sylvia breathed a sigh of relief. “Good.” She had just left him unattended for a little while, but that little brat actually urged Jacob to bring him here. Fortunately, he did not get lost.
Sylvia continued to walk inside.
The security guard recognized her and let her in directly. However, when she passed by the front desk, the receptionist called out to her, “Miss, who are you looking for?”
Sylvia looked over and saw two young women wearing uniforms. One of the women looked familiar. Before she could recall who she was, the familiar—looking woman smiled at her and said, “Oh, it's you, Mrs. Carter. Are you here to see Master Carter?” “Yes.” Sylvia noticed that the woman was polite and smiled at her. “I seem to have seen you somewhere before. Have we met?”
“My name is Shermaine Cole. We met two years ago.” Shermaine smiled back at her. Sylvia instantly remembered her. It was the girl who had saved Madam Carter. Since Shermaine resembled Sylvia slightly,
Madam Carter had even mistaken her for the latter at that time.
Sylvia smiled at her and asked curiously, “When did you start working here?” Shermaine replied, “I joined two years ago. Assistant Bogard arranged for me to work here.” Sylvia nodded. Odell had most likely asked Cliff to arrange it in order to thank her for saving Madam Carter. However, would it not have been better to just give her a sum of money directly?
Nevertheless, Sylvia did not think much about it. She remembered Flint and headed to the elevator after saying goodbye to Shermaine.
Shermaine maintained a polite smile . Even after Sylvia went into the elevator, she still held a kind and approachable smile on her face.
Her colleague beside her immediately asked, “Shermaine, | didn‘t know that you knew Mrs. Carter. Do you have any relationship with Master Carter's family?”
Shermaine replied, “We were acquainted in an accident two years ago. We're just ordinary friends at most. There‘s no other relationship.”
“But Mrs. Carter and Master Carter are very courteous to you.” Shermaine smiled and said nothing. When the colleague saw that she refused to mention their past, she pouted and did not ask again.
Meanwhile , the elevator Sylvia took soon arrived at the top floor. Coincidentally, just as the door opened, she saw the man holding Flint. The man in the suit stood tall and straight.
Chapter 1287 Odell held Flint in one hand and a briefcase in the other. He had been very busy recently, and she only saw him once every four to five days.
The last time she saw him was four days ago. These days, Sylvia was also busy with work matters and accompanying Madam Carter, so she did not have much contact with him.
She grinned at him. “Odell, did Flint cause you any trouble?”
Odell curled his lips and was just about to say something when Flint piped up, “Mommy, | was a good boy.” Then, he buried his face into the crook of his father’s neck in guilt.
Odell carried him into the elevator.
Sylvia glanced at the little guy and asked Odell, “Where are you taking him?”
Odell handed her the briefcase which she took.
“Nowhere. We're going home,” he replied while pressing the button for the first floor with his free hand. The elevator descended.
Sylvia asked curiously, “Aren‘t you busy?”
“Well, I'm almost done for today.” “Oh.” She did not ask any more questions or say anything else.
Odell looked at her and saw that her gaze was fixed on Flint. His eyes subconsciously darkened. Then, he asked,” Why did you come here anyway?”
Sylvia replied, “I came to look for Flint.” He pursed his lips as the elevator soon reached the first floor. Odell carried Flint out while Sylvia followed him with his briefcase.
When they passed by the front desk, Shermaine and the colleague beside her stood straight and looked at them with polite smiles.
Shermaine even said, “Goodbye, Master Carter and Mrs. Carter.” Odell walked straight ahead as if he did not hear her although Sylvia returned her goodbye and followed her husband out. Before long, they were in the car.
The MPV rolled on the road smoothly. Because he was most likely afraid of being taught a lesson by Sylvia, Flint refused to get down from Odell's arms.
Sylvia could not help but pat his little butt. She deliberately lowered her voice and called out to him,” Flint Carter, come here right
now. Flint turned his head and looked at her carefully with his large eyes.
Sylvia shot him a look. “Who let you run around? Why didn't you tell me when you came to look for Daddy?” Flint pouted. “I just miss Daddy.”
His large eyes were watery.
Sylvia choked up and did not know what to say to him.
His wide eyes flickered, and he said, “I won't do it again, Mommy. I'll definitely tell you next time.”
The boy‘s usual trick was to pretend to be obedient and cute, but Sylvia was helpless when it came to his wiles. She pursed her lips and said, “Mommy will forgive you this time, but there won't be a next time.”
Flint immediately grinned. “Mm—hmm!”
The little boy was certainly adorable.
Sylvia reached out and pinched his cheek. He giggled, then crawled out of Odell’s arms and into Sylvia's embrace.
Odell pursed his lips and watched them silently.
Sylvia played with the little one for a while, then thought
of something and asked Odell, “I saw Shermaine at the front desk earlier. Did you ask Cliff to arrange for her to work there?” “Yeah.”
“Why did you give her a job at the front desk?”
“Cliff was the one who arranged everything. She wanted a job back then, and we needed someone at the front desk, so he asked her to fill in.” “Oh.”
Chapter 1288 Sylvia stopped asking more questions. The car also became quiet. A good while passed, and there was only the sound of Flint fussing about.
Odell watched her focus on teasing Flint, and his brows subconsciously knitted. His expression also turned cold. He simply pursed his lips and remained silent.
Sylvia only noticed his expression when the car drove to the door of the house. She looked at his cold and sullen face and asked curiously, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” After saying that, he pushed open the door, got out of the car, and walked forward without looking back. Sylvia was stunned.
In her arms, Flint wrinkled his little brows and said, “I think Daddy is angry.”
She was not blind; she could see it too.
However, neither Flint nor she provoked him on the way back. Why would he get angry?
Sylvia got out of the car with Flint in her arms.
Only Aunt Tonya and Sebastian were in the living room. Liam and Isabel were both in their room.
Where could Odell have gone?
Sylvia carried Flint to the second floor and put him outside the door of the children‘s room. “Flint, you go and play with your sister while Mommy goes to find Daddy.”
Flint agreed obediently and pushed the door open to find his sister.
Sylvia thought about the briefcase that Odell brought back and assumed that he still had some work to do, so she immediately went to the study.
However, the study was empty. Where was he? She walked out again and went to their bedroom.
As soon as she pushed the door open, she saw him leaning against the wall next to her. His arms were crossed, and his deep gaze looked at her. His eyes were clearly cold and filled with displeasure. He seemed to be waiting for her. Sylvia asked in confusion, “What's wrong with you?” “Nothing.” His voice was also cold. She could not help but walk up to him and ask, “Did you encounter trouble at work?”
“No.”
She was confused. “Then, why do you look so upset?”
He pursed his lips coldly and said nothing.
Sylvia was a little annoyed. She patted him and said,” Odell, if you have something to say, just say it. Don't be like this.”
Odell pursed his lips and looked at her for a while but still remained silent.
Sylvia suddenly ran out of patience. “Forget it then.”
She was just about to turn around and walk out, but before she could take a step, a long arm reached over and wrapped around her waist.
Sylvia was instantly pulled closer to him. Her face nearly collided with his chest. She frowned and looked up at him.
He was staring at her with a cold gaze. “Do you not want to talk to me that much?”
She was dumbfounded. “What do you mean | don't want to talk to you?” He was clearly the one who refused to talk to her instead. Odell pinched her chin and looked at her coldly. “How many days have we not seen each other?” “About four or five days. Why?” “Have you called me the past few days?”
“I've sent you messages.” “How many?” Sylvia thought about it. “Two or three times.”
He said coldly, “Only two times, and both were just you replying to messages that | sent to you.”
Sylvia was speechless. Did that matter?” “Do you not want to talk to me?” he asked again.
Sylvia said, “T-that's not it. | didn't call you or send you messages because | didn't want to disturb your work.
Chapter 1289 “So, you don't miss me at all, do you?”
“|.... How can you say that | don't miss you?” They were already husband and wife. Were they supposed to stick to each other all day? Besides, he was the one who was always busy with work.
Sylvia frowned as she looked at him, confused and speechless.
Odell looked at her coldly. “Today, Flint went all the way to the office to find me because he missed me. Why didn’t you come to me even once?”
She was dumbfounded.
“This afternoon , you only went to the company to find Flint. On the way back, you only focused on playing with him and didn't ask about me at all. Do you even care about me?”
She either painted or spent time with Madam Carter and the children all day. He went out to work every day, but she never went to the office once to see him!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He pinched her face again and said coldly, “Sylvia, am | just a husband on paper to you?”
Sylvia was speechless. Her eyes were wide open, and her expression was stunned. At the same time, an unnamed fire burned within her.
She reacted quickly and said sullenly, “Odell Carter, it's enough if you're too busy to come home these days, but now you're blaming it on me? Do you know how much Grandma and the three children need company? Do you know how much | have to do at home alone?*.
She had a job too, but she also had to take care of Grandma and the three children. It was bad enough that he was too busy to go home, but he even blamed her for not going to see him.
Sylvia got angrier the more she thought about it and could not help but raise her voice. “Do you think I'm a superhuman?” The man‘s gloomy expression instantly changed, and his gaze flickered.
Ashort while later, he avoided her gaze and said, “You could've at least taken the time to send me a text message or make a phone call.”
Sylvia asked, “Why didn't you call or message me instead?
“| did message you.”
Sylvia‘s throat choked up.
The air became silent as they stared at each other.
After a long time, Sylvia compromised and raised her hand to smack him. “Let go.”
“Where are you going? Are you going to find those little limpets again?” His voice was displeased. Sylvia said angrily, “I'm going to Grandma, okay?”
He looked at her and said, “Grandma has Aunt Tonya and Sebastian with her. You don't need to be with her constantly.” Sylvia finally said, “I want to go out for a walk alone.”
As soon as she finished, he pinched her waist tightly and picked her up. She was pinned to the bed before she could react. He cupped her face and said coldly, “You're not going anywhere today other than staying by my side.”
Then, he lowered his head and kissed her.
Sylvia wanted to push him away but failed, and she could not speak even if she wanted to. She could only be forced to accept his domineering forcefulness.
The movement in the room continued until it was dark.
On the slightly messy bed, Sylvia was wrapped in his arms, unable to go anywhere. She felt the heat from his chest and turned around with a red face. “I want to go to
the toilet.”
He pinched her face. “Hold it in.”
Sylvia stared at him.
He curled his lips. “It's your punishment for not caring about me.”
She glared at him speechlessly.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
“Daddy and Mommy, it's time for dinner.” Flint's childish voice rang out.
Sylvia‘s eyes flickered, and she was just about to get up. However, before she could move an inch, his arm pulled her back down.
He wrapped his arm around her and said to Flint, “Your mother and | are going to rest for a while. You go eat with your siblings first.”
“Okay,” Flint answered and went away.
Sylvia heard the sound of his little feet stomping on the floor happily as he left. She looked at Odell again. “Flint is still small. He needs someone to watch him when he eats.
He said, “Liam and Isabel will watch him. Aunt Tonya and Sebastian will also take care of him. There‘s no need for you to constantly look after him.”
Chapter 1290 Sylvia choked up, and she could not help but punch him. Odell let out a low grunt, then hugged her tighter.
Unfortunately , she could not push him away and could only press against his chest. The pile of displeasure in her heart gradually disappeared as she listened to his strong heartbeat.
She raised her head to look at him.
He had his eyes closed as if he was sleeping. His handsome face was very gentle , and his expression was much better than before when he had been angry at her.
He was busy these days, but so was she.
She was now giving classes to students at the Art Academy. Although there were not many classes each week, there were always miscellaneous tasks to complete. Furthermore, she was concerned about Grandma and the three children, so she would go home to spend time with them whenever she could.
It may be true that she neglected him a little, but he was a man in his thirties. How could he bicker with her about something like this?
Sylvia held back her anger and stopped thinking about it. She wrapped her arms around his strong waist, closed her
eyes against his chest, and soon fell asleep. Unbeknownst to her, when her hand wrapped around his waist, the man‘s eyes opened. He looked at her rosy face, and his deep eyes softened while the corners of his lips curled up.
At least, she had some tact. Odell was still very busy. He was already gone when Sylvia woke up the next morning.
Sylvia did not stay idle and accompanied Madam Carter and the three children to breakfast. After seeing Liam and Isabel off to school, she gave Flint a few instructions before handing him over to Aunt Tonya and going to the Art Academy.
Two busy days passed. That afternoon, at four o'clock, Sylvia came out of the academy after finishing her work.
Thinking that she had not seen the man for two days and the fact that she had not taken the initiative to contact him, she took out her phone and called him.
The line rang twice before connecting, and the man‘s low and magnetic voice sounded. “Do you need something?” His tone sounded pleasant as if he was quite happy.
Sylvia smiled and said, “Not really. | just wanted to ask if
you could spare some time later. | want to have dinner with you.” He replied, “Later is fine. You can come over.” “Sure.”
Sylvia called Aunt Tonya and told the latter that she would not be back for dinner tonight, then she took a car to Carter Corporation. She did not go inside and simply sat in the car in the parking lot and waited for him.
About ten minutes later, his tall and straight figure emerged from the elevator. The driver opened the car door for him, and he sat beside Sylvia. He subconsciously held one of her hands and asked, “What do you want to eat later?”
Sylvia replied, “I've booked a restaurant. Let's go there straight.”
His eyes flickered slightly. “Sure.”
Ten minutes later, the car stopped outside a restaurant that served local specialties.
Sylvia had reserved a table, so they sat down as soon as they entered. The food was also ordered beforehand, and it was all flavors they loved.
Soon after they sat down, the waiter served the dishes.
Sylvia asked him as she ate, “Are you free to come home tonight?”
Odell curled his lips. “Do you want me to come back?”
Sylvia’s face heated up. She avoided his eyes and replied,” | was just asking. If you're busy, then forget it.”
He laughed. “I have a dinner party tonight, but I'll try to come home early.” “Oh.”
