Ch. 1416..1420

Chapter 1416

After having been John’s assistant for so many years,

Peter was no idiot. He knew that Sherry wanted his.

contact to approach Caprice and that she would follow him to the site. Why didn’t he tell her about the schedule change?

If he did, he might as well have told her that he informed John about her asking for his contact and then teamed up with John to trick her into going to the site on a snowy day. 1

Sherry was furious and annoyed. She stomped on the spot for a while before striding to where she had gotten off earlier.

Due to the heavy snow, everything before her was white, and her footsteps were swiftly buried under the snow. The whistling wind almost froze her to death, yet no vehicles appeared in her sight.

She was forced to return to the shed by the construction site. The shed had a heater while the two security guards slacked inside.

When they saw Sherry at their door again, they stared at her in awe.

Sherry pointed at the electric scooters by the shed and

asked with an awkward smile, “Hey, can | borrow one of your scooters?” Sherry had no idea how she made it through the snowy suburbs.

Not only her body but even her mind was also numbed by the freezing cold. When she finally managed to ride back to a car-filled road, the scooter slipped. Bang!

She fell on the ground wretchedly. She could not feel the pain due to the freezing cold. She simply collapsed on the ground for a while until she regained part of her senses. Only then she tried to get back on her feet.

It was then a familiar silver MPV stopped in front of her.

Sherry widened her eyes.

The door opened and a slender figure came out. Peter was also there holding a black umbrella over the man’s head. The man slightly lowered his head and stared at her with an evil gaze from his golden-framed glasses.

Sherry stopped trying to get up. She sat on the ground while wrapped in her red jacket. Her body and her cap were covered in a layer of snow. Even her eyelashes and nose were white.

If she had not glared at him, John would have assumed that he was looking at a frozen statue. He chuckled. ” Sherry, | thought you were capable when you left your child two years ago. What’s happened to you now?” 1

Sherry moved her lips and spoke gruffly, “You prick! You bastard! You set me up!”

As though he wanted to see how badly she got frozen, John slightly bent over and stared at her frozen cheeks. He smiled. “I set you up?”

Sherry glared at him and then at Peter with the umbrella. Peter immediately turned away.

Sherry grunted. “Peter, just you wait!”

She was no match for John, but she could deal with the man’s assistant!

The moment her words subsided, her cheek was pinched. She gasped, not because of the pain, but because of the sudden heat on her face. John’s hand was warm.

John smiled. “Sherry, why are you shouting at him?”

Sherry scoffed. “That’s because | dare not shout at you, so I’m venting my anger at him.” John’s smile widened. “You're quite smart.”

“| take that as a compliment. Please let go of me,” she said.

John narrowed his eyes and released her.

Sherry sat on the ground with her neck shrank into her jacket, her hands tightly held together. She had a glance at the vehicle behind John.

If John came all the way here, could it mean that Caprice was also inside the car? Before she could get a better look, the man blocked her sight with his slender legs.

Sherry looked up at him.

Chapter 1417

Chapter 1417 John smiled. “What are you looking at?”

“I'm looking at you,” Sherry said while staring at his face with a smile. “I’m looking at your handsome face and gentlemanly demeanor...’

“Enough,” John said with a grin.

Sherry forced a smile on her face and asked, “Dear Master Stockton, can you be so kind as to invite me into your car so that | can warm myself up?”

Sherry furrowed her brows and feigned a pitiful look, attempting to arouse John’s compassion.

John smiled brightly. “No.”

Sherry’s expression turned cold. Her expression changed faster than a speeding bullet.

John chuckled. “You want to get into my car? In your next life.”

He wanted to turn around, but Sherry swiftly jumped forward and clung to one of his legs. 1

John’s leg was pinned to the ground by her weight. He looked down at her.

She curled her lips. There was barely any sign of life on her pale and freezing face, but her smile was as bright as the sun. “If you don’t let me into your car, | won’t let you in as well.”

As John narrowed his eyes, Sherry raised a brow at him.

They locked eyes for a while until John scoffed and said, Sherry, do you really think | still like you and won't hurt you?” and

Sherry mimicked his smile and said, “No, no. | dared not even think about it. It’s just that you are a kind man, you'll definitely let me in to warm myself up.”

John remained smiling. He lifted his other leg and aimed his clean leather shoes at her face. One slight move and he could literally step on her face.

Sherry’s expression shifted. She turned and stuck her face to the bottom of his shoe. She also tightened her grip on his other leg.

John’s expression froze.

The woman had become utterly shameless!

Or was it because she never had feelings for him, thus she never bothered about her face being stepped on? His gaze turned grim. With a curl of his lips, he kicked her.

Thud!

The kick landed on her back.

Sherry gasped in pain but refused to let go. No matter how many times he kicked her, she has to see Caprice in the car behind him.

Thud!

He kicked her once more.

Sherry slid to the side, but she recovered quickly and went back to his side.

John frowned. “Sherry, don’t embarrass yourself. You are still a woman. Can you have some integrity or dignity?” Maybe because her body was already frozen by the

weather, her chest felt numb, and she could barely feel the pain. She looked up at him with teary eyes and forced a smile. “Integrity is not as important as my life. If | don’t get into the car, I'll freeze to death.”

John scoffed. “You really think | don’t know what you are trying to do here?” “| just want to warm myself up in the car. What else can | do?”

Her lips remained curled, her eyes remained teary, and her smile felt weaker than before. She was like a fragile flower dancing in the wind. Despite knowing that the

wind would crush her, she continued to dance elegantly.

John was rather surprised. An unusual feeling choked his chest.

It was then that an adorable voice came from the car.” Daddy...”

John’s gaze shifted as he regained his composure. He pulled his leg away. Sherry frowned and refused to let go.

John grunted and kicked her once more, sending her flying backward.

Chapter 1418

Sherry tumbled in the snow.

When she finally stopped, she recovered as quickly as possible and looked toward the vehicle. The silver MPV started and drove off from her sight.

She choked on grief once more. She was in no condition to chase or back away at the moment. She got teary and after fighting the urge for a few moments, she cried uncontrollably.

“That bastard...” She clenched her teeth. She had stuck her face to his shoe and begged him, yet he showed her no mercy at all.

Caprice was her own blood, yet he denied her from seeing the girl.

She wiped her tears away as she sat up. She pulled her phone out and called the man.

If he refused to let her see her daughter, she would continue to ruin his life.

Beep...

The dial tone sounded.

Just when she thought the call would get through and she could scold the bastard with all the vicious words she had prepared in her mind, the call ended.

He rejected the call.

Sherry choked on her emotions. She paused for a few seconds before making another call.

The beep sounded once before it was rejected again.

Sherry grunted. She continued calling, but it never even got through this time. The man must have blacklisted her.

After sulking for a while, she went on her social media which she had not been on for a long time to message him. She searched for him in the friend list and texted him.

“You bastard! If you are capable of snatching my baby away, you can at least pick up the phone!” 1

One text obviously was not enough for her to vent her anger. She texted him again.

“If you don’t let me see her, | won't let this end this easily! You tormented me, and now it’s my turn to torment you!” John did not reply even after a while.

Sherry searched for some vulgar stickers and spammed the man’s chat.

Soon, she received a notification informing her that she was blocked.

She was left speechless.

At the same time, in the steadily cruising car, the man’s slender figure leaned lazily in the rear seat. He held Caprice in one hand while scrolling his phone with the other.

Going through Sherry’s angry texts made his lips curl.

Caprice had just woken up a while ago, and she noticed the smile on her father’s face. She tried to have a peek at the screen.

However, John stroked her forehead and turned her head away. He smiled and asked, “Caprice, what are you doing?” Caprice smiled and answered, “Daddy looks happy. | want to see too!”

John smiled and replied in a small voice, “I’m looking at jokes which are too deep for you to understand.”

“Then, tell me!” Caprice widened her crystal-clear eyes at him, looking curious and adorable at the same time.

John pinched her little nose. “Alright.”

Then, he said, “Once upon a time, there was a family of three. The mother abandoned the husband and the daughter, and the husband tried to look for her. After a few years, the mother came back with regret. What do

you think will happen next?”

Caprice’s eyes flickered in curiosity.

“The husband and the daughter didn’t talk to her and left her to freeze in the snow. She got so angry and started cursing.” “Hehe...” Caprice giggled when she heard about the woman getting angry.

John smiled brightly as well.

If he was correct, the woman must have realized he had blocked her, and she must be cursing out loud in the snow.

Chapter 1419

She would then text him via social media and continue to

curse him.

Ding!

Amessage had arrived.

He smiled and stroked the girl’s cheek while picking up his phone using his other hand. He received a text from a certain chat window.

He tapped on it but noticed it was from Julie.

Slightly disheartened, he opened the chat window.

“John, it’s New Year’s next month. Usually, the extended family will organize gatherings for us to attend, but Mother wants to organize one ourselves this year. She’s planning to do it this weekend. She wants to invite those who are close to us and some of her old friends. She wants to know if you can spare some time to bring Caprice over as well.”

He should be free this weekend.

John replied, “Sounds like a plan. I'll bring Caprice.”

“John, do you have any ideas on how you want the gathering to be?” “I'll leave it to you and Mother.”

“Very well.”

John did not put his phone away after the chat with Julie. He was friends with Sherry on multiple social media platforms, and he had blocked her on only one of them. Given her feisty temper, she would never stop after being blocked and would continue to annoy him through other channels.

Unless... She was frozen in the snow! His eyes narrowed. He immediately said to the driver, Turn around!” The driver nodded.

Caprice was scared by his sudden reaction and was worried about his nervous expression. She looked worried when she asked, “Daddy, what’s wrong? Did you lose something back there?”

John frowned. He hugged her tightly in his arms and said, “Yeah, Daddy lost something back there, but it’s not important.”

“If it’s not important, why are you so nervous?” the girl asked in curiosity.

John wanted to smile to show that he was not nervous, but for some reason, the muscles on his face were frozen and he could not even force a smile.

It was still snowing outside.

(

Snow removers were at work. Both sides of the road were covered with thick layers of snow. It was below zero

degrees Celsius outside, and that woman just rode an electric scooter from the suburbs.

John could not help but picture her frostbitten face. He frowned.

“Drive faster!”

The driver accelerated even faster.

Ten minutes later, the car arrived where Sherry had fallen down with her scooter. However, only the scooter was in sight. She was nowhere to be found. The snow only recorded the tracks from the scooter and where she fell but did not show where she went.

“Caprice, wait for me in the car.”

John strapped her in the baby seat and got out of the car.

There were only a few souls on the road due to the snowy

weather.

Where could the woman be?

He looked around and noticed a little store near Sherry’s crash site. The store was still doing business in the harsh

weather.

He strode over there immediately, and Peter followed him.

The store owner was snacking while watching a show on the television when the handsomely dressed men appeared at his door. He was surprised by their visit.

Peter asked, “Did you see a woman with a scooter crash in front of your store earlier? Do you know where she went?”

The owner regained his composure and said, “Oh! You guys are the ones who spoke to the woman earlier, right? | remember you with the umbrella.”

“Yeah. We spoke to her before. After we left, where did she go?” Peter asked.

Chapter 1420

The owner answered, “I saw her get into a cab with two other handsome men. It’s been less than three minutes since they left.” Peter’s expression changed. “Two other handsome men? What did they look like?”

The owner pondered and said, “Tall, slender, rather young...

i)

Two young and handsome men?

Peter cautiously looked at John.

John curled his lips and asked the owner, “Do you know which way they were headed?”

The golden-framed glasses concealed the grim behind his eyes. All the owner saw was his humble and polite exterior. The owner said, “They should’ve been going in the direction of the city.”

John turned around and left.

Peter thanked the owner and chased after his boss.

‘It's so warm... Am | dreaming?‘

As Sherry slowly regained consciousness, she opened her eyes to an unfamiliar environment.

Then, she realized she was in a moving taxi. She clearly remembered switching social media platforms to curse John, but before she could hit send, her consciousness had faded and things had gone dark.

Beside her was a young man who looked clean and handsome. His eyes gleamed when she woke up. “Hey, Miss, you’re awake! Are you alright? How are you feeling?”

Sherry cautiously asked, “Who are you?” “My friend and | saw you were passed out on the road just now, so we picked you up and we’re on the way to the hospital.”

Sherry saw his friend in the passenger seat. The latter was another young man of the same age, and they seemed to be university students.

Her body remained cold despite being in such a warm environment. She curled up like a shrimp and smiled at them, expressing her gratitude in a gruff voice, “Thank you for saving me.”

The young man smiled at her. “It’s nothing. The hospital is just ahead. Do you need us to help you get inside?” Sherry immediately said, “It's okay. | can go by myself.”

The taxi stopped in front of the hospital.

Sherry then paid the driver and strode into the hospital.

Her body was warmer compared to earlier, where she had practically frozen in the snow, but it was still stiff. It took her quite a while to reach the hospital.

At the same time, a silver MPV drove past the hospital

entrance.

The man inside the car held Caprice in one hand while his eyes stared outside the window.

Peter asked in a small voice, “Sir, Ms. Fowler’s car should have left the scene a while ago. Why don’t we check the hospitals for her information?”

John glared at him. “Who told you I’m looking for her?”

Peter pursed his lips. “Sorry, sir.”

The interior of the car went quiet as both the driver and Peter dared not make a noise.

Caprice was sound asleep in John’s arms while John’s gaze was glued to the moving scenery outside the window. A taxi drove past them, but it was the only car John spotted, and he did not see Sherry’s figure inside.

The snow got heavier and their car was the only one left on the road. Behind his golden—-framed glasses was a grim gaze staring forward blankly.

Two young men picked her up? Were they her acquaintances that she had contacted earlier? She must know a lot of men outside.

It was warm inside the hospital.

Sherry planned to sit for a while and regained her warmth before going out. However, maybe because the frostbite was rather severe, her head remained heavy even after resting for a while.
