Ch. 1446..1450

Chapter 1446

“Don’t worry. With me around, no matter how powerful that John Stockton is, he won't dare to take advantage of you in front of me,” Carl said as he steadily steered the car.

They were all people with status, so it was unlikely for John to do something heinous to her in public. Sherry frowned. “Who told you I’m afraid of him?”

“Then, why the long face?”

“| don’t have a long face!”

Carl sighed. “Fine. No long face. | was wrong.

Sherry ignored the frivolous man.

‘t

Carl had another glance at her charming looks. “Sherry, we are going to reach the venue after a couple more turns. If you want to go back now, | can still turn around.”

Sherry’s expression changed. She glared at him and said, “I don’t want to go back. Just drive and stop blabbering, or I'll call your mother right away!”

“Okay, okay. I'll drive.”

Sherry exhaled strongly and straightened her back.

The annoyance on her charming face was replaced by confidence, followed by a frosty aura that would keep people away. Carl had one last glance at her before he curled his lips into a grin.

Glenchester’s annual business guild conference was held in the guild president, Master Carrel’s private vacation villa.

The villa was located near the suburbs, surrounded by beautiful geographical wonders. All the famous tourist spots were within a hand's reach. The villa was brightly lit and was surrounded by auspicious decorations.

The event was held in the grand hall behind the villa. The hall itself was surrounded by massive ceiling—to- floor windows, which showed off the liveliness inside the building.

The sky was already dark and most of the guests had arrived. Everyone mingled with each other with a glass of wine in their hands.

Only two of the most prominent guests had yet to arrive: John Stockton and Carl Sager.

The guests were chatting and mingling, but they all spared a sliver of attention at the entrance. It was at that moment the silver MPV drove into the villa and stopped in front of the entrance.

The guests immediately swarmed the entrance like a flock of birds. Someone said, “I recognize the car. It’s Master Stockton’s ride. He’s here!” The person's words hastened the people’s pace.

After the car drove to a stop in front of the entrance, the chauffeur went up and opened the door.

Agroup of well-dressed people gathered outside the car.

Julie might be experienced in serving guests at home, this would be the first time that she was surrounded by that many businessmen and businesswomen. Her excitement and nervousness surged out of control fora moment there. She looked at John, seeking assistance. “John, I...”

Just as John wanted to get out, he heard her. He turned around and smiled, “Don’t worry, just stay beside me.” Julie replied with a gentle stare and smile. “Alright.” John got out of the car, followed by Julie.

Anumber of veteran businessmen had never seen Julie before, and her appearance shocked every one of them. All intrigued parties sized her up secretly.

Julie could already sense the eyes on her. She elegantly walked to John’s side and smiled at the guests. Someone from the crowd whispered, “Who is that woman? I’ve never seen her before.” Someone else replied, “I’ve seen her before. She’s the wife to the second master of the Stocktons.”

It was then that Master Carrel, the business guild president, cut through the crowd and went up to John. He greeted with a welcoming smile, “Master Stockton, welcome.”

Chapter 1447

Chapter 1447 John shook his hand with a smile.

Master Carrel then turned to Julie and was surprised to see her. He smiled and said, “It’s rare to see you here, Second Mrs. Carter.”

The crown finally knew who Julie was, but they started to size up John and Julie with a complex gaze.

Ahandsome man with a strong presence coupled with a beautiful and elegant lady—one a bachelor, one a widow. They somehow spent quite a lot of time together, and it was difficult for people to not view them as a couple.

Julie smiled. “Master Carrel, thank you for having me.

You may just call me Julie.”

“Right, right.” Master Carrel then subtly moved his gaze back to John.

It was the first time John was attending an event with a female partner, and this time, he came with his sister—in- law.

Master Carrel sized John up subtly, attempting to find out what he thought of Julie, but he noticed the man was looking into the crowd, seemingly trying to find someone.

He asked, “Master Stockton, looking for someone?” John smiled. “Master Carrel, | heard Young Master Sager is coming too. Is he here?” “He hasn’t-”

Before Master Carrel could finish, a fiery red sports car sprinted in from the gate and drifted into the front entrance, screeching to a perfect stop.

Master Carrel was stunned while John narrowed his eyes. Julie and the others looked at the driver seat’s window. Then, the window wound down and revealed a youthful and charming face of a young man. “Old Man Carrel, I’m here!” Carl smiled at Master Carrel and even gave him a wink.

Master Carrel was taken aback by the sudden wink. He then showed a delightful smile and said to John, “Master Stockton, let me introduce you to Young Master Sager.”

Then, he approached the car and opened the door for Carl himself. “Thank you, Old Man Carrel.”

Carl tapped the man’s shoulder before he headed to the passenger’s seat. He bent over after he opened the door and put his hand out for the person inside. “My dear sister, please.”

The crowd was silenced by his frivolous behavior, but at the same time curious about the person in the passenger seat. “| heard that Master Sager has three sons but no daughter.”

“| also heard from Master Carrel that the mysterious person who helped the Sagers is coming. Young Master Sager here is also the enigma’s student, and if he called the person inside ‘sister’, could it be that mysterious person?”

“No way, that person is a woman?”

The crowd was intrigued.

While the crowd discussed the topic aggressively, Julie also locked her eyes on the passenger seat.

The man beside her stood straight and firm. His eyes were also locked in the same direction, and his lips curled. The mysterious person was a woman? Interesting.

The racket suddenly quieted down.

Behind Carl was a bright street lamp, highlighting his crimson-red suit.

Then, a fair hand emerged from the car and placed it on top of Carl's palm.

The crowd held their breaths. Those who were further behind even tiptoed to get a better look, afraid that they would miss out on the best details.

Under everyone's curious gaze, Carl straightened his body and took a step back with a smile. The crimson-red figure then emerged from the car with Carl’s help. Her fair shoulders and tempting figure immediately entered everyone’s sight.

Everyone held their breaths.

Chapter 1448

Chapter 1448 Everyone glued their eyes on the woman’s back, waiting for her to turn around for a better look. Everything went quiet for a few more seconds.

The woman took two steps forward following Carl’s movements and then turned around to the crowd. Her charming looks and delicate facial features immediately came under the spotlight.

Suddenly, it got so quiet that one could even hear a needle dropping on the ground. Many were astonished by her breathtaking looks.

There were also some who widened their eyes in shock, including Matthew, Janine, and Jake who intentionally avoided John from the moment he arrived.

Julie was also stunned. The man beside her who stood firm suddenly petrified. His smile froze as if the freezing wind stopped his movements. Things went quieter than before.

“What's with the silence?” Carl chuckled. He then looked at Sherry affectionately and tapped her head. “Sister Sherry, | think they are stunned by your beauty.”

Sherry looked askance at him.

Carl gulped nervously. “Oh my, it’s cold here. It’s a lot colder than Coastrock.” He then took off his jacket and put it on Sherry’s shoulders. It was still quiet.

Other than those who did not know who Sherry was, those who knew her or had seen her before at the Stocktons‘ event, including Matthew, Janine, and Jake, were all stunned. What happened?

Awhile ago, Sherry was accused of stealing Carl's invitation to get into the Stocktons’ residence and was caught by security. She was pressed to the ground violently and was taken away in embarrassment. How did she end up as Carl’s good sister?

Judging from how attentive Carl was to her, the people who knew Sherry were more confused than ever. The whistling wind felt like the coldest hands, slapping their faces silently. Could she be the mysterious person who helped the Sagers overcome their crisis?

No matter who she was, it was obvious that she had a close relationship with Carl, so there was no reason for her to steal his invitation that night.

The crowd felt embarrassed. Matthew, Janine, and Jake remained petrified.

What happened? As far as they knew, the woman before them was the girl from the rural village, so how could she be the mysterious person behind the Sagers?

The other person who shared the same disbelief was Julie. She frowned as her face turned pale.

John’s expression was hidden behind his glasses as they reflected the lights. However, a person with a keen eye could tell that his fists were tightly clenched. 1

Master Carrel sharply noticed the embarrassment in the unusually quiet crowd. He immediately went up to Carl and Sherry. He smiled and said, “So, this must be the mysterious person. Ms. Fowler, | presume? | did not expect the person to be a young and beautiful woman.”

Sherry smiled. “You're too kind, Master Carrel.”

She had told her men to approach Master Carrel using Carl’s name for the invitation to the Stocktons‘ event, so she had never seen Master Carrel in person.

Sherry took the initiative and put her hand out for a handshake.

Master Carrel quickly shook her hand and then turned to John behind him. He smiled and said, “Master Stockton, let me introduce Carl Sager from the Sagers.”

John curled his lips at Carl. “Young Master Sager, I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Carl put one of his hands over Sherry’s shoulders while pocketing his idle hand. He smiled wickedly and said, You're too kind, Master Stockton. | am the one who has

heard tons about your achievements.”

John pursed his lips. His eyes then shifted to Sherry.

((

Sherry allowed Carl to hug her freely. Maybe she was mentally prepared for the meeting, so when she locked. eyes with John, not only did she stare straight into his eyes but she even lifted her chin proudly and curled her

fiery lips into a professional smile.

John’s expression went cold. He, too, curled his lips into a smile, but it felt dangerous.

Chapter 1449

“Master Stockton, this is Ms. Fowler.”

Assuming that they did not know each other, Master

Carrel introduced the two of them. He turned to Sherry and said, “Ms. Fowler, this is Master Stockton of Glenchester.” “Oh, | know her. Sherry Fowler,” John said.

Things went awkwardly quiet again.

Master Carrel looked at him with surprise, together with the crowd and also Julie.

Under people’s curious and nervous gazes, John looked at Sherry and continued, “We’re old acquaintances.”

Sherry was left speechless for a moment, but she maintained her professional smile. “Master Stockton is right. We know each other, but we're not that close.”

“Huh...” John scoffed.

Sherry looked away and averted his gaze.

Then, Carl’s bewitching face entered her sight with a smile. “Sister Sherry, | didn’t know you and Master Stockton are acquaintances. Why didn’t you tell me about it?”

Sherry pursed her lips.

The frivolous guy must have already run multiple background checks regarding her and John. The reason he asked her in public was to help her divert attention.

Sherry said, “It was a long time ago. Master Stockton has always been the person at the top of the pyramid while | was a nobody. | had a few meetings with him, but that’s all. Nothing is worth mentioning.”

“Oh... | see. But | suppose that is so. If Master Stockton had his eyes on you, you wouldn’t have come to us anyway.” Carl then looked at John.“Thankfully, the Sagers are slightly luckier to have you, my dear sister.”

John looked at Sherry. The smile on his face turned cold. ”

| did not expect you to be this capable, Sherry.”

Sherry feigned a professional smile. “You’re a busy man. It’s normal for you to be blinded by your work.”

John was silenced.

Even the crowd noticed the conversation was taking a strange turn.

Carl chuckled.

Ahem!

Master Carrel stroked his beard and swiftly shifted the topic with a fake smile. “It seems like everyone has a lot of things to talk about. It’s freezing out here. Why don’t we go in and continue?”

He then led the group inside the hall. Carl and Sherry followed him inside, followed by the others. Only John remained standing on the spot. He was standing in the way of Sherry and Carl.

Sherry pursed her lips and stared ahead of her coldly, pretending to not see him. As she swiftly approached him, he put his foot forward and tripped her.

Sherry almost fell if not for Carl holding her back. She turned around and glared at him out of grievance. John grinned ominously.

Sherry ground her teeth. She furiously lifted her leg and stomped on his foot!

Thud!

John’s expression froze and turned bitter.

Sherry curled her lips and then curled her arms around Carl's arm. “It’s freezing outside. Let’s go in.” Carl nodded. “Let’s go in.”

They walked in side by side, followed by the other guests.

Only John was left alone in the freezing entrance, together with Julie who was beside him.

Chapter 1450

Julie tightened the shawl around her shoulder and cautiously looked at John.

“John, are you okay?”

John stared at Sherry and Carl, who had disappeared into the hall, and curled his lips into a wry grin. “I’m fine. Let’s go in.” The hall was a lot warmer.

Sherry returned Carl his jacket and thanked him. ” Thanks.”

Carl put his jacket back on and winked at her. “You're welcome.”

Sherry quickly grabbed a glass of wine and started sipping; Carl did the same.

Soon, someone came to greet them.

Carl was great at handling people. He used the least

words to send them on their way because those who came to mingle were trying to win his favors.

Sherry was an entirely different case. People came to greet her because they wanted to know her and even tried to ask her how she helped the Sagers overcome the crisis. Due to privacy concerns, she did not reveal much but did not turn them away directly either.

She simply picked the trivial matters to emphasize and then shifted the topic. After exchanging name cards, the others walked away. She wore a polite smile throughout the process and tried to be as humble as possible.

Carl was like her steward following her around with a smile. He even helped her with her wine glass when she was exchanging name cards.

Meanwhile, in a secluded corner, the man’s slender figure leaned on the wall lazily with a glass of wine in his hand while he watched the woman’s every move. His deep gaze was glued to her, and his lips would curl from time to time.

The Sagers, Carl Sagers, and the mysterious person who helped the Sagers overcome the company’s crisis. The woman seemed to be full of surprises.

Sherry just sent a group of people on their way, but another group came to greet her.

After a few conversations and exchanging name cards,

Sherry wanted to settle down in a quiet corner for some wine. To her surprise, after sending the last group of people away, a familiar person came to her.

“Ms. Fowler. | didn’t know you were the mysterious person that helped the Sagers.

Julie came to her with a glass of wine and a polite and gentle smile. She made it feel like they knew each other for a long time. As soon as Julie’s words subsided, Carl asked, “Sis, do you know her?”

Sherry said, “No.”

Julie's expression froze.

Sherry continued to smile professionally and asked, ” Miss, you do look quite familiar. Have we met before?”

Julie subtly clenched her teeth but tried her best to maintain her smile. “I’m Julie Weiss, John’s sister—in- law. | was the host at the Stocktons’ event the other night. We met there. Don’t you remember?”

She seemed intentional in picking on Sherry’s old wounds.

“Ah, it’s coming back to me,” Sherry said. She then asked, “You're John’s sister-in-law? Why didn’t you change your last name to Stockton?”

Julie looked disheartened. Carl could not help but chuckle.

Julie’s expression turned bitter for a few seconds before she forced a smile. “It’s something to do with my late husband's decision.”

“Oh, | see, sister-in-law eh? Nice to meet you.” Sherry smiled professionally. Julie choked on her false courtesy, and even her expression froze. “Ms. Fowler, Young Master Sager, please excuse me.” “See you around,” Sherry said.

Julie’s gaze turned cold as she walked away.
