Ch. 1621..1625
Chapter 1621
Mia was waiting for Julie outside the yard.
Julie came over and asked softly, “John is probably heading to Sherry’s place. Did you tell them?”
Mia said, “I’ve told them Master Stockton is heading their way, and they will light the place up as soon as he leaves.”
“Great.” Julie smiled. She had hired a bunch of professional hitmen for the job to ensure Sherry’s doom.
All that was left was for Queenie to leave Madam Stockton’s room so that she could go in and remove the oxygen mask.
With Madam Stockton gone, so were all her problems.
Splash!
A bucket of cold water splashed on Sherry’s face and woke her up.
The pain in her head left her dizzy. Her sight was blurry due to the water, but she managed to see a slender figure in front of her.
She looked up, blinked her eyes, and finally got a clear look at the man. The golden-framed glasses set off the man’s gentle and handsome features. He wore a disdainful grin on his face.
He chuckled and said, “So, you're still alive. | thought you were dead.”
Sherry managed to regain her consciousness after hearing the harsh words. She looked around and realized she was still in the same house.
She was lying down in front of the porch. The bodyguards surrounded her and did not actually send her to the hospital. She rammed her head into the wall and knocked herself out, yet the bodyguards did not send her to the hospital.
Was it because of the man’s orders?
Something stung her heart, and it worsened the pain in her head.
Her body shivered due to the cold and she looked at John with bloodshot eyes. She asked in a trembling voice, “You hate me so much, so | figured I'd die to make it up to you.”
She looked shockingly pale under the moonlight, and the blood on her face made her look like a ghost. John was slightly surprised but managed to recover his composure and veil it with a layer of grim. He curled his lips. “No.” Sherry was surprised by the answer.
He bent over and forced his handsome face into her sight.
She saw his moving lips as his deep voice spoke the coldest words. “Even if you die now, | won't forgive you. | won’t let you die either, but you can rest assured you won't live a good life.” Sherry’s chest tightened. She felt like several more buckets of cold water just splashed onto her again.
John then straightened his body. He peered down at her and then said to the bodyguards, “Cut the electricity. | don’t want to see any lights or warmth in this house.”
The bodyguards were terrified by his frosty expression. They quickly went over to the fuse box to cut the electricity. The entire house plunged into darkness in the blink of an eye.
John curled his lips into an evil grin while he looked at Sherry.
Sherry remained petrified on the ground as if a bloody ghost was frozen. She was aware of his gaze, and for some reason, she widened her lips into a grin.
“Haha...”
Chapter 1622
John narrowed his eyes. “What are you laughing at?”
Sherry sat on the ground and stared at the sky blankly. She curled her lips and said, “I’m laughing at myself.” John was slightly surprised. “Why?”
“I'm laughing at myself for being an idiot. Hahaha.” As though her words tickled her funny bone, she could not stop laughing. Even her shoulders started to shake.
The more she laughed, the more she looked like a mad woman. The man froze for a moment. He stared at her coldly. “Sherry, what is the meaning of this?”
“Hahaha...” Sherry ignored him. She continued to stare at the sky and giggled. “I used to think meeting you was the happiest thing that had ever happened to me. I’m such an idiot.”
Tears then rolled down the edge of her eyes. The man’s body stiffened.
Awhile later, his gaze shifted. He scoffed and said, “Sherry, what are you planning now? Do you really think I'll sympathize with you because of what you said?”
“Hahaha...” Her bloodshot eyes started to gleam. She looked at him and said in a hoarse voice, “John, | would rather be a cat, or a dog, or even the grass by the roadside in my next life than meet you again.”
Her life was nothing short of bitterness. Their lives had been entangled for many years and it had been tormenting for her. She would rather be an animal or a plant than meet him again.
She used up all her strength in saying those words, so she collapsed on the floor with her eyes closed, allowing the pain in her mind to rip her head apart and the chilly breeze to assault her body. She really wanted to just die on the spot.
The man stared at her viciously.
His brows furrowed while his lips pursed, and his expression looked disheartened. He had either reached his boiling point or was trying his best to hold back his emotions.
She would rather be an animal or a plan than meet him again?
The man strongly believed those were just words to provoke him. She must have some other way to escape. She must be still thinking about him, hence her provocative words.
“Stop acting like a madwoman here. Go inside while it’s still warm, or you'll freeze to death here.” He swore to never go easy on her. However, the answer he got was the chilly breeze blowing into his face.
Sherry lay on the floor like a frozen dead body. Her eyes were closed and her limbs were not moving. She maintained her posture for quite a while and did not even flinch in the freezing weather.
John was disheartened. He bellowed, “Throw her into the house!”
The bodyguards came over and brought Sherry into the living room.
When the bodyguards brought her inside, he said to the rest of the bodyguards, “Cut the water supply for the house off as well.” With that, she would have no access to meals, water, light, electricity, and even warmth. The punishment was to let her realize her current situation and the fact that he would never care about her anymore.
There was no need for tricks anymore.
The bodyguards nodded and went to cut the water supply off.
Sherry was tossed into the living room.
John turned around and left the house with a frosty look.
The gate was closed shortly after he left. The silver MPV started and soon drove away from the secluded area.
When the car finally disappeared, several shadowy figures came out.
“Boss, that’s Master Stockton’s car He’s gone. Should we act now?”
The leading man revealed psychotic excitement. “We shall act according to plan! Burn this place to the ground.”
The group of men then went into the forest and made their way toward the house.
Chapter 1623
Knock, knock.
Huh? What was that?
Sherry forcefully opened her exhausted eyes and the first thing she saw was darkness.
She was lying down on the living room floor, and the noise seemed to be coming from under the wall behind the living room. Had she not been lying down, she would not have heard the noise.
The noise continued.
She frowned. She mustered her strength and crawled over. It took her a while to get close enough to the source, but the noise stopped.
While she tried to wrap her head around the situation, a beam of light shone through the window and landed on her face. Sherry instinctively covered her eyes with her hand.
The beam of light shone for quite a while before a helpless sigh sounded.
“Sis, it has just been two months since we met. What got you into this state?” 3
There were almost no cars on the road in the suburbs.
The silver MPV cruised smoothly on the road and returned home shortly after.
The car continued driving on the main avenue in the estate, and when it passed by Madam Stockton’s unit, a figure dashed out and stopped the car.
The driver hit the brakes immediately. When he had a clear look at the person in front of him, he cried, ” Ms. Queenie?!” John was also surprised by Queenie’s sudden interception.
After the car stopped, Queenie headed to the side and opened the door. Before she got into the car, she sneakily looked around to make sure no one was following.
She said to John, “Brother, come with me. We'll go to Mom’s place through the backdoor.” Baffled, John asked, “Why the backdoor?”
Queenie’s eyes flickered and wore unprecedented seriousness on her face. “We set up a little show. You just need to follow me and watch.”
John was more confused than ever. “What show?”
“Just follow me because | can’t be sure yet,” Queenie said softly and then pursed her lips.
Albeit the confusion, John unfastened his seatbelt and followed his sister to the hidden path, where no one would pass at this hour.
Along the small path, they reached the backdoor of Madam Stockton’s house. The door was open, and the brother and sister went in.
Meanwhile, Julie and Mia came in from the front door.
There was no one in the front yard.
Julie felt uncertain. She asked softly, “Are you sure Queenie isn’t around?”
Mia said, “I’m sure. She got sick, so Aunt Emerence sent her back to her place to rest.”
“Is Aunt Emerence asleep?”
Mia said with a grin, “l added something extra to her meal. | saw her dozing off when | came over. I’m sure she’s dead asleep.”
The two of them then entered the living room. Emerence was sleeping on the couch and would snore from time to time. As Mia said, Emerence was dead asleep.
Julie’s eyes gleamed. She looked at Mia. “You stay here and keep watch.”
“Yes, Madam. Just go,” Mia said before she hid behind the door.
Chapter 1624
Chapter 1624 Julie took a deep breath and strode into Madam Stockton’s room.
There was only one lamp on in the room, and the windows were shut tight. No one outside could see what was happening inside.
Caprice should have left with Queenie, so only Madam Stockton was alone in the room. She had the oxygen mask over her face and she looked paler, seemingly weaker than before.
Julie went closer to her and looked at her.
“Mother, don’t blame me. | am doing this for your own good.” She bent over and continued with a vicious. grin, “Rather than hanging on a thread, why don’t | send you to the afterlife? Am | right?”
As soon as her words subsided, she put on a pair of rubber gloves and stripped the oxygen mask off Madam Stockton’s face. Her hands were slightly shaking while she held the oxygen mask in the air. Her eyes stared at Madam Stockton.
After a while, nothing changed. Madam Stockton looked as pale and weak as before, but there were no signs that she had passed.
Some confusion and hesitation later, Julie lifted her hand to Madam Stockton’s nose to check if she was still breathing. The moment her finger got close to the nose, Madam Stockton, who should be unconscious, opened her eyes and stared at her. Julie’s hand shook, and her eyes widened.
“Argh!” she screamed. She nervously tossed the oxygen mask on the floor and staggered backward in fear. Her face turned pale as she stared at the awakening Madam Stockton in horror.
What happened? Should Madam Stockton not be in a comatose state? Why would she open her eyes?
Just when Julie thought she was having an illusion, Madam Stockton said, “What are you doing to me, Julie?” She sounded hoarse but frosty.
Julie widened her eyes in shock. “M-Mother? You’re awake?” Madam Stockton simply stared at her in silence. The sharp gaze stated that she already knew what Julie was doing to her. Julie's expression shifted multiple times. Her nervous gaze suddenly showed a hint of viciousness.
She strode back to the bed and reached out to Madam Stockton’s mouth and nose, attempting to suffocate her. She could not afford to let the old lady live. She must kill her!
Just when her hands managed to cover Madam Stockton’s nose and mouth, a loud thud sounded. The balcony door was kicked open. The glass on the door almost shattered due to the sudden force.
Julie was shocked. She looked at the balcony door and saw a pair of terrifying and furious eyes.
It was John.
Julie froze. She screamed in disbelief, “J-John?”
John glared at her coldly.
Queenie was beside him and she, too, glared at Julie coldly.
At the same time, the main door opened and Emerence came in.
Mia, who was hiding behind the entrance, was apprehended by the bodyguards, and her mouth was taped. All she could do was look at Julie in fear.
Fear devoured Julie. Her body shook terribly.
Queenie strode over to the bed and helped Madam Stockton up.
Chapter 1625
Chapter 1625 Emerence stood at the door to prevent Julie from escaping. John walked to the bed and stared at Julie with a grim gaze. “Why?”
Julie had never heard of or seen his terrifying side. Her body trembled violently as she cried out loudly, “J- John, H didn’t | didn’t It's not what it seems.
Queenie helped her mother up and then shouted at Julie, “We were already outside when you came into the room. We saw everything!”
When Emerence told her that Julie tried to harm her mother, she refused to believe it. Even when her mother woke up and told her that Julie was a vicious woman, she still refused to believe it.
Now that she saw it with her own eyes, she felt betrayed. Her eyes were bloodshot She shouted, “Mom never treated you badly Why did you try to kill her?”
Julie stuttered, “I-I really didn’t try to kill her | thought she wasn’t going to wake up, and when she woke up, | thought | was hallucinating, so | was just trying to confirm if she was alive.”
Queenie continued, “We saw everything! Stop giving excuses!”
They were not blind.
Julie had tossed the oxygen mask on the floor and spoken vicious words to Madam Stockton. Both John and Queenie heard and saw her clearly.
Julie’s eyes flickered nervously. She looked at John.
John was two meters away from her He looked as handsome as always, but the frosty aura that he emanated distanced himself from her, striking fear into her heart.
Julie unconsciously took two steps back. Her eyes trembled when she said, “John, I...” She could not even speak properly anymore.
The man’s frosty voice sounded. “I'll ask you one more time. Why?”
“IP” Julie had never expected this to happen. The terrifying man before her robbed her words from her mouth.
John frowned. His handsome face was shrouded with vicious killing intent.
Julie’s legs turned weak. She collapsed on the floor with a thud. Her eyes were filled with fear Her face looked pale and her lips trembled vigorously, causing her to lose her ability to speak properly
The room went quiet for a few seconds.
Madam Stockton then sighed. “It’s because | found out about her secret That’s why she tried to kill me.” John looked at her
Queenie asked, “What secret?”
Madam Stockton sighed. She looked at Emerence and said, “You tell them. I’m too tired of this.”
Emerence nodded. She then said, “Madam went to visit Ms. Julie one day and accidentally found the secret room behind her closet. The closet is filled with Master Stockton’s pictures, and there’s a lifesize
wax statue inside as well.”
John frowned.
Queenie widened her eyes in shock.
Julie’s eyes widened as well “How did you know? Mother said she’d never tell anyone!”
“Madam didn’t tell anyone, not even me
Julie’s eyes were bloodshot. “Then, how did you know?”
“| was in your room when Emerence came looking for me. She saw it as well,” Madam Stockton said coldly
Julie frowned Not only did Madam Stockton know about her secret, but so did Emerence! She suddenly. remembered when she had tried to suffocate Madam Stockton the other day, but Emerence’s sudden entry foiled her plan.
Her eyes flickered multiple times before she looked at Emerence. “Aunt Emerence, have you been suspecting me? You knew?”
Emerence looked at her coldly and said, “Indeed, | have. When Madam got into the crash, | was on the phone with her, and | heard her talking to the driver. The reason why the car crashed was that the brakes were tinkered with.”
“What? Mom’s car has always been well-maintained. How could the brakes not work?” Queenie asked. John pursed his lips and stared at Julie coldly.
