Ch. 1691..1695

Chapter 1691

Chapter 1691 Sherry took a quick shower before snuggling in bed with Caprice.

Over the next few days, Sherry followed the same schedule. She would hand over Caprice to John in the morning before heading to work.

After she returned home from work around the evening, she would take Caprice back with

her.

John would join them and be in charge of making dinner for them.

After the meal, Sherry would help Caprice settle in for the night while John would clean up and leave without being prompted to. This went on until Friday.

In the morning, Sherry handed Caprice to John after breakfast as usual before leaving for

work.

Work was not as hectic today, at least compared to the past few days.

She was done with her work around four and had nothing left to do for the day.

She grabbed her bag and prepared to call it a day.

Just as she was walking out of her office, she chanced into a group of her employees who were chattering about something and shooting sly glances in her direction.

The moment they saw Sherry stepping out of her office, they smiled teasingly at her. Sherry immediately realized what had grabbed their attention. There was a tall figure standing at the other end of the office.

The young man had put on a royal blue suit adorned with a diamond enamel pin. His hair had been carefully combed and he wore a dashing smile, resembling a prince seen in fairy tales.

He held a bouquet of bright red roses in hand and looked at Sherry with an expectant smile.

Sherry was taken aback by this sight and quickly approached him, keeping her voice down to a whisper. “Carl, what are you doing here?”

Although everyone in the Sagers was informed about their engagement tomorrow, the two of them knew that it was nothing but a formal arrangement. Besides, what was the point of putting on such a display in the office of all places? Did he realize how much gossip this would generate?

“| haven't seen you for several days so | figured I'd pay you a visit,” he said as he handed the bouquet to Sherry.

Sherry did not want to stay here even a second longer, especially with there being a crowd gawking at them. She took the bouquet and quickly marched off.

Carl followed her closely and asked, “Sherry, where are you going?”

“Im going home.”

“It's so early, what are you going to do at home?”

Before Sherry could form a reply, he squinted his brows in suspicion and said with a

wicked smile, “I see, you’re going home to prepare for our engagement ceremony tomorrow aren’t you?” Sherry grimaced and ignored him.

Carl smiled and continued, “You don’t need to worry about anything. Everything has been sorted out to perfection. All you need to do is show up tomorrow.”

He propped an arm over Sherry’s shoulder as he said this. Sherry snapped. “Get your hands off me.”

Carl winced upon hearing this and remarked in an unkind voice, “Sherry, I’m about to be your fiancé. Would it kill you to be nicer to me?”

Sherry ignored him.

He of all people should know that their engagement was a farce. It was just an act they put on for the members of the Sagers. After Carl took over the reins of the corporation, they would then announce that the engagement had been called off.

Carl looked at her wrathful expression, the excitement and jubilant mood in his eyes immediately deflated. He scowled and asked, “Are you going home already?”

“Yes.”

They had arrived at the underground parking lot.

Upon noticing that Carl was still following her, Sherry turned to him and said rather crossly, “Go find something else to do, stop following me.”

She opened the door and got into the car.

Within seconds, she had sped out of the parking lot.

Carl seemed bothered by such treatment. He got into his car and decided to tail Sherry.

Sherry’s house was only a short distance from the Sager Tower.

After passing several junctions, she was home:

Just like the past few days, she swerved into the lobby to her designated parking lot.

To her surprise, someone else had parked in her spot. It was a car with a giant heavy-duty car cloth draped over it. Fortunately, there was an empty spot next to it which she proceeded to use.

By this hour, John was probably waiting for her at home alongside Caprice. She got out of the car and prepared to head upstairs, but was interrupted by two men that showed up out of nowhere and approached the covered car next to hers. Their movements were swift and coordinated.

They gripped the heavy-duty car cloth in unison and flipped it over to reveal the car underneath.

It was an expensive customized sports car, studded with bright pink gemstones that reflected brilliant rays of sunlight that could easily blind an unsuspecting individual.

Chapter 1692

Chapter 1692 Before Sherry could process what was going on, she heard the sharp screech of a brake from behind her. She turned around and saw Carl stepping out of his sports car.

He leaned against his car with a look of pride and looked at Sherry with a charming smile, expecting her to fawn over the car. “Sherry, do you like it?”

Sherry was speechless. Was this sports car stuffed with gemstones supposed to be a gift for her?

Upon noticing her astonishment, Carl walked up to her and gently brushed his fingers against her cheeks. “You like it, don’t you? You look like you can’t even find the words to describe it.”

Sherry took a breath and expressed what she truly thought, “Carl, didn’t | tell you that | don’t want this?”

He had mentioned giving her a sports car on one occasion and she could recall her refusing the gesture.

Carl smiled and declared, “It’s my code to not mistreat my woman so whether you want it or not, it’s yours now.” Sherry hissed angrily. “What do you mean by ‘your woman’?”

Carl cocked an eyebrow. “You’re going to get engaged to me tomorrow. Doesn't that make you my woman?”

Sherry took another deep breath to prevent herself from flying off with rage. “Carl, I’m sure you know the terms of our engagement.”

Carl continued grinning nonchalantly with an air of arrogance. “I know, but it’s a secret, isn’t it? The point is to let people know that you’re my fiancée, the only one | care for.”

Sherry said dryly, “There’s no need for you to put on this sort of public display. Nobody is going to think anything of it even if you didn’t make some sort of public statement of affection.”

Carl barely cared what she had to say. He put his arms around her shoulders and led her to the sports car. He said invitingly, “Go on, see if there’s anything that you'd like to change about it. I'll have my men bring it to the workshop.” Sherry was no fool. With just one glance she could tell that the sports car cost a fortune and it was utterly flawless.

She glanced at the sports car, then at the car which she drove here in. When put in comparison, she suddenly felt like her car was a useless hunk of steel.

She said without hesitation, “No need, the car is perfect as it is.”

“So you like it?” Carl asked gleefully.

Sherry quipped. “Are you going to take it away if | said | didn’t like it?” Carl laughed. “Of course not.”

He was not going to reclaim what was meant as a gift.

Sherry remained silent.

Carl asked for her opinion again, “So do you like it?”

Sherry answered briskly, “I do.”

Who would not love such a beautiful and luxurious car?

Carl grinned, fully satisfied with the answer.

“Alright, get home and make sure you rest well, I'll see you tomorrow.” He still needed to head to the venue for a final inspection to ensure everything was in order.

Sherry merely grunted.

Carl left with a smile on his face.

The two men who worked for Carl prepared to leave as well.

Sherry quickly stopped them. “Wait a minute, you two.”

They turned around.

Sherry smiled and asked politely, “Please help me put the cover back on, | won't be using it for the moment.”

It attracted far more attention than necessary, especially when she was only going to use it to get to work. With how flashy it seemed, it was better to keep it covered lest it attracted unwanted trouble, what with the glittering gemstones and all. She was going to safeguard it until after their engagement was called off, then she would return it to its owner.

The two men did as they were told and covered the car appropriately.

After the job was done, they left.

Sherry went back to her unit.

Meanwhile, at the stairway outside her unit.

There stood a man leaning over the barrier. His gaze was sharp and ruminative underneath the lens of his glasses. He observed the car parked in Sherry’s parking spot with an air of

stoicism.

He narrowed his eyes and seemed to be pondering something.

“Daddy, what are you looking at?” Caprice stood next to him with a curious expression. She was not tall enough to see She wanted to see it too, but he ignored her no matter what she called him just now.

The window sill was twice as high as her, and she could not even jump up, so she could only raise her face and ask him. At this time, there was movement from the elevator entrance.

John collected his emotions and turned his head.

Chapter 1693

Sherry stepped out of the elevator.

When Caprice spotted her, her eyes immediately glowed up and she cried out at the top of her voice, “Mommy!”

She hopped toward her mother like a rabbit.

Sherry smiled brightly and greeted Caprice warmly, taking her into her sweet embrace.

Then she took the keys out of her pocket and went to unlock the front door, promptly stepping inside after unlocking the door. She did not spare even a glance in John’s direction the entire time.

John frowned faintly before following her into the house.

Just like the past few days, Sherry bought plenty of ingredients using a food delivery service. Then she went to the living room to watch cartoons with Caprice while they waited for the delivery.

After the ingredients were delivered, John went to collect the delivery and took the plastic filled with ingredients into the kitchen. Since it was rather early for dinner, he only briefly prepared some of the ingredients and had not commenced cooking yet. Caprice and Sherry were lazing around on the couch.

Caprice laid against Sherry’s arms and used it like a pillow, her eyes transfixed on the television screen, utterly mesmerized by the cartoon show.

Sherry watched silently with her.

John suddenly approached and remarked casually, “That car is pretty cool, isn’t it?” Sherry was visibly jolted when she heard this. She looked at John as if she had been shot. John smirked and asked, “Why did he give you the car?”

It appeared that he had seen everything.

Sherry’s eyes flashed with guilt, then she suddenly realized that there was no reason for her to be feeling this way since she had no obligation to feel bound to John. Upon realizing this, her demeanor became cold and brittle again and she rebuked sharply, “What does that have to do with you?”

If it was not for Caprice, she would not even entertain the idea of letting him into the house! John smiled faintly and said calmly, “I was just curious.” Sherry ignored him and diverted her attention back to the television.

“You haven't answered me, why is he giving you a car?” he suddenly asked again.

Sherry frowned and shot a look at him. “Can’t you shut up? Get out of here and stop bothering me!” Her tone was cruel and vicious. John grimaced.

Caprice suddenly turned to them and interjected. She tugged at Sherry’s clothes and pleaded softly. “Mommy, don’t be mean to Daddy.”

Sherry immediately composed herself and apologized, “Sorry, let’s just continue watching your show.” “Okay.”

Caprice turned back to the television.

Sherry glared at John.

With a look that clearly said: Stop bothering me and get out of here!

John grimaced tightly and sat down on an adjacent couch.

Soon, the sky outside had darkened.

John set down the book he had been reading, got up from his seat, and asked Caprice, Caprice, what do you want to eat tonight?”

Caprice announced brightly, “I want to eat meat!”

“Okay.” John smiled, then he turned to Sherry. “What do you want to eat?”

Sherry was not as receptive. “Anything works.”

“Alright.”

With that, he turned and went into the kitchen.

He put on the apron and began cooking.

Based on his appearance and his entire demeanor, one would never have the impression that this man was the kind to spend time in the kitchen.

He seemed entirely downcast and somber as he operated in the kitchen.

Sherry felt a slight tightness in her chest when he observed John’s somber attitude. However, this pity only lasted a brief instant. She soon turned away from him and left him to his own devices.

After some time passed, John presented them with a vast array of dishes as usual.

Caprice hopped off the couch and let the wonderful aroma of the food to guide her to the dining table. Sherry rose and followed her.

Two vegetable dishes, two meat dishes, coupled with a soup. The rice was still oozing hot steam.

He plated food for Sherry and Caprice first.

Chapter 1694

After a hot and steaming plate of rice was served in front of Caprice by her father, she thanked her father lovingly, “Thank you, Daddy.”

John smiled gently. “You’re welcome, Caprice.”

He picked up another plate and prepared to scoop Sylvia's portion into it.

Sherry snatched the plate from him with an unruly frown and did it herself instead.

Then she sat down and ate without a word.

John fell silent for a moment, then he got himself a plate and joined them at the dining table. Apart from the clatter of utensils, there was not so much as a whisper heard at the table. After her portion, Caprice announced, “I want to drink some soup!”

John took a bowl and filled it to the brim for her.

Caprice smiled. “Thank you, Daddy.”

“You're welcome.”

Caprice drank the soup and savored every drop.

John turned to Sherry and suggested, “It’s Saturday tomorrow and Caprice said she wants to go to the beach. Let's take her to the beach together.”

Sherry held the spoon stiffly in her hand and turned down his invitation. “I have something very important to do tomorrow, you can go with Caprice.”

He squinted suspiciously. “What's so important tomorrow?” She scowled and looked at him pointedly. “Why do you have so many questions today?”

He smirked in his usual candid way. “Just making small talk, why are you so grumpy today? | noticed that you’re grumpier than usual today.”

This strung Sherry’s nerves. Her temper was flaring up. She felt like she was going to lose control and pummel John like a rag doll. She had to control herself because Caprice was here with them.

She took a deep breath and exerted a great deal of effort to control the pitch of her voice.” John, are you trying to test my patience? Do you want me to kick you out?”

As soon as she said this, Caprice spoke up and defended John, “Mommy, don’t kick Daddy out please.”

She lifted her head from the bowl of soup and pleaded.

Sherry took a breath and forced herself to smile, albeit unconvincingly. “Mommy is just kidding.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

Caprice breathed a sigh of relief, then she turned her attention back to the most important matter at hand, the bowl of soup. Sherry glared at John again.

John grinned, fully aware that this was only going to provoke her further. “Are you sure you won’t go out with Caprice tomorrow?”

Sherry’s voice came out like a beastly growl. “Like | said, | have something very important to do tomorrow, you can go with Caprice.”

John lowered his eyes and stopped pestering her.

Sherry suddenly grew nervous.

What was with this reaction?

Did he find out that she was going to get engaged to Carl tomorrow?

No,

he would not be so quiet if he knew.

Besides, so what if he knew?

Even if her engagement with Carl was just for show, it did not change the fact that she was

not going to repair her relationship with John no matter what!

When she affirmed herself of this, the restlessness in her heart died away.

After Caprice finished her meal, she took Caprice into the bedroom.

As usual, she read some short stories for her. Then, she helped Caprice shower and settled her into the bed. The child fell asleep soundly within seconds.

It was Sherry’s turn to shower.

After her shower, she went to the living room for a peek. The lights were shut off, the dining table and the kitchen were thoroughly cleaned, and the man was nowhere to be

seen.

She went back to the bedroom and fell asleep with Caprice in her arms.

Meanwhile, John had reached the parking lot and was gazing at the building Sherry resided ‘b

He looked at the bedroom windows.

He left after seeing that the lights in the bedroom were shut off.

Chapter 1695

Chapter 1695 The moon cast its luminous glow on John’s face.

His aura took on a different form as usual. It was dark and gloomy, further accentuated by the cold gusts of wind that blew by, sending a cold shiver through his spine. The man. stood by himself, castaway, and left to fend for himself in the lonely night.

He silently crossed the road and entered the hotel lobby.

As soon as he entered the lobby, two people approached him.

It was Aiden and Caden. They had been waiting here for a while.

They were both smiling.

Aiden asked, “Mr. Stockton, did you come back from visiting your ex-wife?”

John asked in a dark tone, “Did you come here just to ask me this?”

Aiden went straight to the point. “She’s going to be engaged to Carl. Has she mentioned this to you?” John answered, his voice gloomy, “No.”

Aiden and Caden laughed at his expense.

“Mr. Stockton, have you made up your mind yet?” Aiden asked with a taunting smile, “Are you going to let her marry another man and say goodbye to her forever, or are you going to put an end to this farce with our help?”

John stayed silent for a while, then he looked at them with a destitute look. “Are you two sure you can help me?”

Caden immediately declared, “Of course, with the resources at our disposal, getting her back to your side is the easiest thing you could ask us for!”

Aiden agreed with a charming smile. “We're men of our word. As long as you can drive a wedge in their engagement and prevent Sager Corporation from falling into Carl's hands, | assure you that we'll help you remarry Sherry no matter what.”

John contemplated for several seconds, then he asked, “How do you plan to achieve that?”

Aiden and Caden exchanged a smile with one another, then Aiden said, “Come, let’s go to the cafe over there and we'll give you the details.”

At six in the morning, Sherry was woken up by the alarm clock she set.

She could not sleep in today even if she wanted to as she had an engagement ceremony to attend.

Caprice was still sound asleep.

Sherry did not want to interrupt her sleep, so she silently tiptoed out of the bedroom and went to the living room. She was going to head outside and ask the bodyguard John had installed here to deliver a message to John and have him pick up Caprice.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she opened the door, John was already standing outside.

He was dressed in his usual getup, a white shirt paired with black trousers.

He stood tall and mighty as usual, a tint of warmth glowed inside his eyes when he met Sherry’s gaze. Sherry was startled by his sudden appearance and blurted out, “When did you get here?”

It was only six o’clock in the morning.

John smiled. “I just got here.”

This came off as a shock to Sherry. She recalled how she would see him standing outside every morning when she opened the door to collect the breakfast delivered to her place.

Was it his usual routine to come here before the sun had even risen across the horizon? She frowned at the thought.

Then again, she never asked for him to come so early. She wagered that he only did so because he was bored out of his mind at the hotel and had nothing better to do.

Sherry brushed the thought aside and announced, “I’m leaving soon so I’m not going to have time to eat breakfast with Caprice today so make sure she eats something when she wakes up.”

John answered dutifully, “Okay.”

Sherry went back into the bedroom and brought Caprice who was still sleeping like a log to

John.

John took Caprice into his arms and said with a smile, “Good luck with work today, I’ll be waiting for you with Caprice.” Sherry did not form a reply.

John left with Caprice.

Sherry closed the door after that.

She heaved a long sigh, then she went to take a thorough shower.

After that, she changed into a set of casual clothes and headed downstairs where she got into her car. She drove to Lisa’s house.

The dress was ready for her to put on, and a makeup artist was waiting there as well.

Carl was also going to Lisa’s house.

After everything was ready, the two would set off together to the venue of the engagement

ceremony.

Coincidentally, shortly after Sherry drove out of the apartment complex, she chanced into John walking along the side of the road with Caprice who was already awake.

She was enjoying a piece of waffle while being carried in John’s arms.
