Ch. 1846..1850
Chapter 1846
“Are you Caprice?”
Caprice heard a voice from behind her.
She spun around and saw a man who looked somewhere in his thirties.
The man wore a navy blue suit. He was rather tall and there seemed to be a scent of alcohol that never left his body.
She answered politely, ” That's me, and you are?”
“I'm Jonathan, your superior from now on.” He observed Caprice’s beautiful features before introducing himself with a coy smile. Caprice smiled and greeted him formally, “Hi there, Mr. Jonathan.”
He was one of Moses’ business partners. He was his senior in university and was several years older than the rest of them. He was the only member in the administrative department and also helped oversee the sales. This was the first time Caprice met him since he was not around the office yesterday.
Jonathan smiled. “Not bad.”
Most interns tend to be rather slow, which was understandable since it was their first time in a professional environment. It was a good sign that Caprice immediately knew to address him in a formal, professional tone.
Or so he thought. The truth was that Caprice was only doing it because she thought it was the polite thing to do.
Jonathan's seat was right next to Caprice. He only sat for a brief moment so he could relay some information to Caprice. After that, he was gone again in no time to meet clients and promote sales.
The tasks he entrusted to Caprice were not difficult, but quite tedious. Caprice stayed busy until the day had turned dark.
It was already nearing closing hours, but everyone in the office was still working hard. The lights in Moses’ office had been switched on.
Caprice was starving and wanted to go home.
Since she was only a part-time worker, there should be nothing wrong with her clocking out after closing hours, especially since she finished her allocated tasks.
With this in mind, she rose timidly from her seat.
She got up just in time to see Jonathan coming back to the office.
The moment he made eye contact with Caprice, he went up to her. “Caprice, pack up your things
and come with me.”
Caprice asked out of curiosity, “Mr. Jonathan, where are we going?”
“We're going to get something to eat.”
Something to eat?
It was perfect since she happened to be hungry, but why was he taking her out for dinner?
Upon sensing her hesitation, Jonathan grew slightly impatient. “What are you doing standing around there?” “Could you give me a moment? | need to go to the bathroom.”
“Go on.”
Caprice trotted to the bathroom.
Jonathan had a loud and easily identifiable voice. Everyone in the office heard him when he spoke to Caprice.
One of the employees teased him. “Mr. Jonathan, it’s only Caprice’s first day in our office and she’s only a part-time worker, you're taking her out for dinner already?”
“She's just a student!”
“What's so weird about that? Besides, we don't like passive employees.” After a pause, he remarked with a wry smile, “She’s going to be bored out of her mind if she has to stay in the office all the time, she’s too pretty for that.”
That was when Moses came out of his office.
He looked at Jonathan and said disagreeably, “You can’t take her out.”
Jonathan could immediately tell that Moses was interested in Caprice. He cocked an eyebrow provokingly and assured him. “Don't worry, we're just going to grab a quick dinner. Nothing’s going
to happen.” Moses did not yield. “That won't work either.”
Jonathan took a deep breath. “Mr. Moses, I’m going to meet President Michael from SwiftTech Corporation today. If we can land a good deal, we won’t have to worry about our finances for the next two years. Besides, do you have any idea how hard it was for me to get him to agree to
dinner?”
Upon presenting his reasoning, everyone in the office stared at the two of them, curiously wondering how it would play out. Moses frowned.
Some moments passed before he spoke at last, his voice dark and stern, “Keep an eye on her,
make sure nothing happens to her.”
Jonathan said with a confident smile, “I got it, there’s nothing to worry about.”
Caprice was in the bathroom the entire time and did not hear a single peep about what was said
After washing her hands, she returned to the office.
Jonathan was waiting for her with a somewhat impatient expression.
Chapter 1847
Caprice hurriedly grabbed her purse and went up to Jonathan “Sorry for keeping you waiting Mr Jonathan, I’m ready to leave
now Jonathan glanced at her purse, then he turned and walked outside.
Caprice followed behind him
Is your bag a counterfeit?” he asked candidly as they got into the elevator. Caprice nodded hesitantly.
He asked more questions, “Where did you buy it? It looks just like the real thing.” Caprice made up a lie. “I don’t know, it was a gift from my friend.”
Jonathan nodded and left it at that.
Then they got into his car.
They drove toward the city center.
Caprice watched the illusory streetlights and wondered where they were going. Where was he going to take her for dinner?
Before she could ask Jonathan where they were going, the car turned at a junction and stopped outside the gates of Elysian House.
Elysian House was a very famous and high-end restaurant. She had been here several times with Sylvia in the past. Why was Jonathan bringing her somewhere so fancy for dinner?
Jonathan suddenly turned to her and cautioned her. “After we go inside, | want you to keep quiet. Don’t say anything unless | tell you to, do you understand?”
Caprice frowned. What did he mean by that?
Before she could figure out what was happening, they were already walking into the restaurant. John’s lips curled into a practiced businessman-like smile. It was apparent that he had done this a thousand times.
Caprice quietly followed him. After they went up the stairs, they found themselves in a private box on the second floor.
When they entered, they saw several middle-aged businessmen seated at a round table. That was when Caprice caught a hint of why she was brought here.
Each one of them looked as wealthy as they were large and plump.
The moment Jonathan entered with Caprice, she could feel every pair of eyes in the room falling upon her. It was as if they had brushed past Jonathan’s existence entirely.
She frowned.
She recalled stories her mother told her from when she was still a young girl trying to make it in the world of business. Back then, she had to attend many business dinners and whatnot to keep up good relations with potential clients.
It was an enjoyable occasion most of the time as she would just need to drink a couple of bottles of beer and entertain her clients. However, there were certain notable episodes with pushy clients who tried to get too comfortable with her.
Whenever she had to deal with such clients, she would put on an innocent act to brush aside their advances. Sometimes, she would have to resort to the hard way to teach them not to mess with her.
Caprice did not expect to stumble into such a situation on her very first day of work. “What are you doing standing there? Hurry up and greet them.” Jonathan lowered his voice and hissed sharply in her ears. Caprice made a strained expression.
Fine, she would just have to deal with it.
She mimicked Jonathan and greeted each of them one after the other.
They seemed to be in a jovial mood and invited the pair to sit with them.
Jonathan was a remarkable conversationalist as he entertained and drank with them. Caprice ate silently.
Until at one point, one of the men who appeared to be President Michael whom Jonathan referred to that evening turned to Caprice. He suddenly suggested. “Mr. Jonathan, it’s been fun but why don’t you get some rest? I'd like to get to know Miss Caprice over here.”
“Sure.” Jonathan was very courteous. He turned to Caprice. “Come on, give President Michael a toast.” Caprice refused. “I don’t drink.”
She had only just turned eighteen last year. Before that, her parents never allowed her even a sip of alcohol. She had never been fond of drinking.
The moment she said this, the atmosphere around the room changed abruptly.
Jonathan was the first to notice the abrupt change of mood, he immediately resorted to threatening Caprice. “It’s just a toast, it’s not going to hurt you. Do you want to keep your job or
not?” Caprice did not relent. “Do whatever you want.”
Even if she were to drink, she would not drink with the perverted man who had been casting gross looks at her since the moment she stepped into the box.
Chapter 1848
Chapter 1848 Jonathan was not expecting such a fearless reaction from Caprice and was visibly taken aback.
After he reeled back from the shock and was still considering his response, President Michael remarked with a smile, “She's feisty, | like that.”
He grabbed a glass of beer and rose from his seat. Then, he lapped around the table to Caprice’s side so he could sit next to her.
He shot a cross look at Jonathan. “If she doesn’t want to drink, let her be! Why are you forcing her to drink?” Jonathan apologized.
With that, President Michael leaned in closer to Caprice. “Miss Caprice, you don’t have to drink if you don’t like to drink. Have a toast with me, you can drink whatever you want.”
He raised his glass while coyly putting another arm around Caprice’s waist. Caprice recoiled.
She immediately shot up from her seat and snatched a glass of orange juice from the table. She smashed it toward the pervert's head without any hesitation.
Crash!
President Michael staggered backward.
Jonathan and everyone else at the table shot up from their seats, completely aghast. They stared at Caprice with bewilderment.
President Michael regained his footing. His once playful smile turned into a murderous glower as he growled, “How dare you hit me?1”
Caprice was just as furious.
“You deserve it, you disgusting pervert!” She grabbed everything on the table that could be used as a projectile and began throwing them one after another at the perverted old man.
Jonathan and all of the others were too stunned to react.
President Michael was flabbergasted as well.
They had never seen such a display in their entire lives, especially coming from a girl like Caprice. Everyone was at a loss for what to do.
President Michael reeled back from his shock in time. He smashed the glass in his hand against. the floor and jabbed a finger at Caprice. “You little b*tch, now you've done it!”
He roared as he threw himself at Caprice. He was going to hurt her.
Caprice hurriedly threw a chair toward him to buy some time while she headed toward the exit
It was only then that the others had the mind to stop her.
It was too late as Caprice had already run outside.
She could hear President Michael’s booming voice from behind. “Catch her! Don’t let her get away!” Immediately after she ran out of the box, President Michael’s group ran after her.
She ran as fast as her legs could manage.
The group of old and fat businessmen was more athletic than they seemed.
They were closing in on her rapidly.
Caprice continued running, her heart was about to lunge out of her chest.
Just when President Michael's hand was about to graze the back of her shirt, she crashed at full speed into another person.
It was a man who just happened to be heading up the stairs.
She could not tell who the person was, but her momentum was completely cut off in an instant.
Her heart dropped, and panic seized her.
It was all over. They were going to get her. What was going to happen to her?
“Help-” She tried to cry for help but she barely managed a yelp when the stranger put an arm protectively around her shoulders. She jumped.
She could hear President Michael’s breathy growl from behind her. “Young man, this little b*tch over here just hit me so I’m going to teach her a lesson. | advise you to mind your own business and walk away.”
The young man asked with equal aggression, “What did you call her?” It was then when Caprice recognized the man. She cried out sharply, “Liam!” She had miraculously stumbled into the one person who could save her, and an eager look of relief shone in her eyes.
Liam peered at her, then he gently nudged her to his side, wrapping his arms protectively around her the entire time. He glared viciously at President Michael whose hair was drenched in all sorts of liquid and grease after Caprice’s ruthless assault on him.
Chapter 1849
Caprice had known Liam her entire life but this was the first time she had ever seen such a vicious glower on his face. She shrunk into the corner and stayed silent.
President Michael glared at the two of them like a feral animal. “You two know each other? Hmph, then | suppose I'll have to deal with both of you!”
As he said this, he turned to his subordinates who were gathered behind him and commanded, ” Get them! I’m going to make sure they know not to mess with me, especially this little b*tch over here! I’m going to teach her a lesson!”
Caprice clung on desperately to Liam.
This was the first time she had to deal with such a dangerous individual.
Liam held on to her tightly. He stood tall and bold, completely unfazed by the screaming man.
Asharp gleam of ice appeared in his eyes.
The aura he radiated had such a chilling effect that the men felt a shiver run through them.
Before they could charge him, Liam’s bodyguards along with the security forces at Elysian House showed up at the scene. They were all larger and more muscular than President Michael and his subordinates.
President Michael and his subordinates hesitated when they noticed the odds stacked against them and promptly screeched to a stop.
“You...don’t you get in my way! I’m a VIP here!” He jabbed a finger at the security guards and wailed like a child. The security guards looked at him, completely unintimidated. They did not fear him or his measly authority.
It was immediately apparent that they were on Liam’s side. They could hardly be bothered about an inconsequential VIP like President Michael.
Alook of panic flashed past his eyes as he took a cowardly step back.
He took a second look at Liam and suddenly felt an inexplicable wave of fear and nausea overtake him.
What was the deal with this young man?
He took a deep breath to compose himself, then he glared at Caprice who was hiding beside Liam. “Little b*tch, this is your lucky day. You better watch out, if | ever see you again, | won't let you off the hook!”
With that, he retreated to his private box.
His subordinates scrambled back to join him.
Caprice heaved a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, the manager of Elysian House showed up.
He addressed Liam respectfully and regretfully, “Mr. Carter, we're very sorry this happened and for scaring the missus.” “Who are they?” Liam asked pointedly.
The manager informed dutifully, “He’s President Michael from Swift Tech Corporation, the others are his employees.” Liam grimaced, then he walked out with his arms still lapped around Caprice.
There was a severe aura about him.
Caprice followed him and was too afraid to make a sound the entire time.
They left the Elysian House and entered his car.
His driver and his bodyguards did not follow him. It was only the two of them inside the car.
Caprice sat a short distance away from him and hung her head low like an arrested criminal. “Well? I'm waiting.” It was clear that he was demanding an explanation. His voice was authoritative and impossible to disobey.
Caprice muttered in a low voice, “I... My superior was the one who brought me here. He said he was going to take me out to dinner. | didn’t expect it to turn out to be something like this.”
“Superior?” Liam looked at her harshly. “What do you mean by that? What kind of superior?”
There was no other way around this other than to confess. Caprice steeled herself and admitted, ” | found a part-time job as an administrative assistant in a certain company.”
Even with the scarce lighting, she could tell Liam’s face had darkened by yet another shade.
He asked sharply, “Aren’t you supposed to be spending your summer break at home? When did you find a job and come back to Westchester?”
Caprice shrunk into a ball. “I... didn’t want to laze around at home.”
If that was the case, why did she turn down the offer to intern for him back then? Liam took a deep breath. “Does Uncle John and Auntie Sherry know about this?” Caprice answered hesitantly, “They don’t.”
She could feel the air grow physically thicker when she said this.
Chapter 1850
Caprice felt like she was suffocating underneath the intense pressure.
She scrunched up her neck like a bird.
Liam's voice tore through the silence. “Caprice, you sure are something.”
She murmured, “I just wanted to prove myself.”
Liam pinched her cheeks.
She flinched and tried to back away, but he pinched her cheeks tightly so she could not move away. She remained still like a totem, her eyes began to water.
He rebuked her sharply, “You’re working for some garbage company that would send a new staff to handle business negotiation. What are you trying to prove? Are you using your head at all?”
She was the only daughter of the richest man in Glanchester. In the future, not only would she inherit her father’s business empire, but she would also inherit her mother’s many assets as well.
Remaining idle at home would be a far better option than working in a morally questionable company! Caprice had never seen Liam being so cross with her. She shivered with fear.
When she recalled the reason she came back to Westchester to take up the job, she suddenly felt like crying. Simultaneously, a burst of anger rose up her chest.
She exclaimed out of nowhere, astonishing herself with her sudden burst of courage, “I’m not stupid! | just wasn’t expecting him to bring me to some sort of place like this!”
Liam frowned. “So you’re saying that | was wrong?”
His voice dropped by several pitches.
Caprice pursed her lips and chose silence.
Partly because she did not know what to say, and partly because she did not want to vent her
frustration at him.
He shot her a severe look. “What's the name of the company you work for?”
She pursed her lips and was hesitant to answer.
He cocked an eyebrow. “Caprice, I’m asking you a question.”
“Am | obliged to answer just because you asked?” Caprice protested weakly.
They were not lovers, nor was he his actual brother.
Liam fell speechless.
After several seconds of uncomfortable silence, he let go of her at last. Then, he took out a phone from his pocket. Caprice grew nervous. “Who are you calling?”
“Your parents. | need to let them know what you've been up to.” He began scrolling through his
contacts.
Caprice grew frantic, she jumped on top of him and managed to snatch the phone away from him.
Liam seized her arms firmly without so much as a tinge of panic. He tried to pry the phone out of her fingers. She resisted mightily.
She hunched over to keep the phone as close to her body as possible. No matter what, she could not let Liam contact her parents.
Liam did not so much as grunt the entire time.
He looked down at Caprice.
Caprice was practically crouched over on top of his lap by this point.
Caprice seemed to not realize the position she was in. When she noticed that Liam had stopped trying to fight her for the phone,
she turned to him and stated her terms as if she was the victor of a battle, “If you promise to not call my parents, I'll give the phone back to you.”
Liam frowned. “Caprice, you have three seconds to get up.”
Caprice refused to yield. “Only if you promise not to call my parents.”
Liam closed his eyes, it seemed like he was struggling with something.
Caprice noticed his pained expression but still refused to let up until she got what she wanted. She held onto the phone tightly and refused to let go.
That was when her wrist brushed against something.
She was confused by the unexpected sensation. “Liam, what’s this hard thing you have here-” “Alright, | won't call them.” Liam cut her sentence short.
She seemed perplexed by his strange behavior. “Liam, what's with your voice? Are you okay?” “You better get up before | kick you out of the car!” He roared suddenly.
Caprice was spooked by this and immediately shot up and away like a loosened spring.
She carefully handed the phone to Liam, cupping it in both hands as if it was a priceless treasure. Liam took the phone and shoved it back into his pocket.
He barely looked at Caprice after that. He lowered the window and shouted at his driver and bodyguards standing outside, “Come on, we're leaving.”
