Ch. 1891..1895
Chapter 1891
Heather was his girlfriend, what if he would not believe her story and chose to take Heather’s side.
instead?
Caprice stated, “I’ve known Piper and Trey for a decade. Anything that has to do with them. directly concerns me as well.” “Just friends? That's all?” Liam asked rather grimly.
She spotted a strange look at him, not understanding the reasoning behind his question. She answered sincerely, “Yeah, I’m very close friends with them.”
“Is that all there is to it?” he asked again in an interrogative tone, a sharp look gleaming in his eyes.
She was thrown off by the question. “What else could there be?”
She was close friends with them. What more was she supposed to say about it? Her eyes grew
round and wide, filled with her usual naivety and innocence.
Liam scowled. “Nothing.”
“Well...can you help us?” She looked at him expectantly.
He informed her, “I already asked someone to talk to VV Entertainment. There should be news. soon enough.” “You already sent someone to talk to them?” She was surprised to hear this.
“Yeah.”
“Then, why did you ask me to come here?” She was very puzzled.
He shot a look at her. “Why? Is this too much trouble for you?”
Caprice smirked and waved her hands from side to side while smiling playfully. “No, no.”
Liam leaned back on the couch and cast a look at her. He suddenly asked, “What have you been up to lately?” She suddenly felt a pang of guilt. She felt like a student whose teacher was checking if she had done her homework.
“|...P've just been hanging out at the dormitory. | usually read during the day and then hang out with Frey and Piper at night. I’ve been keeping a healthy sleep schedule lately.”
Liam asked seemingly out of curiosity, “What kind of books do you read?”
She avoided his gaze. “A lot of different books. | don’t remember their titles.”
“What kind of books? What are they about?”
She felt a lump grow in her throat. In fact, she hardly read at all and could not make something up even if she tried “4. Wow, I’m getting a little tired” She made a show of yawning like a cat.
Liam observed her silently.
“Take a nap over there.” He motioned.
She frantically refused, “No, it’s alright. Frey and Piper are still waiting for me downstairs. I'll go back to the dormitory with them and take a nap.”
He continued to stare at her. “My parents are coming back today. They should be home very soon Isabel and Flint are going to be at home as well, so | figured | might as well join everyone. Do you want to come with me?”
Caprice was startled by the sudden invitation, and she stammered, “I...| haven’t prepared a gift. yet. How about next time?”
“You didn’t bring a gift the last time you came anyway.” Caprice cringed at her terrible excuse and muttered, “Okay then, I'll tell Piper and Frey about it.” “Okay.” Caprice reached for her phone, then she stepped aside to call Piper.
As soon as the call went through, she heard Piper shrieking with joy, “Caprice, my brother just called me and told me that VV Entertainment contacted him and proposed to void the contract!” Caprice was delighted. “That's great!”
“He mentioned that someone has been putting pressure on VV Entertainment to terminate the deal. The chairman of VV Entertainment even made a show of apologizing to my brother face-to- face and offered to continue working with my brother. My brother ended up turning down the offer though, but the chairman didn’t seem too bothered about it. They canceled the original deal and left things at that.”
After she finished her story, she asked curiously, “Caprice, was Liam the mysterious party who put pressure on VV Entertainment?”
Caprice stole a glance at the man who was casually sipping tea on the couch and said with a smile, “Very likely. It turns out that he already sent someone to talk to VV Entertainment before | even came here.”
“Thank you so much.” “Don’t thank me. I’m the reason this happened in the first place.” “Huh? What makes you say that?” Piper was confounded by this.
“Liam’s parents are coming back, so I’m going be visiting them later with him. Why don’t you go. home with Frey for now? I'll tell you the full story when | get back.”
“Alright then. We'll be leaving.”
“Gotcha.”
Chapter 1892
After she hung up, she went to join Liam on the couch again.
Liam turned to her. “Have you told them?”
“Yeap.”
Liam rose from the couch. “Let’s go.”
He promptly headed outside.
Caprice obediently followed behind him.
They went into the elevator which took them to the lobby. Then, they walked out of the building. His car was already parked by the entrance, and his driver was waiting for him. They entered the car.
The car immediately jerked to motion.
Meanwhile, there was a Mercedes-Benz parked on the other side of the road. Piper and Freya had just entered the car.
Trey was driving.
All three of them saw Caprice coming out of the building with Liam. Then they all watched as the car the duo entered drive off into the distance.
Trey looked haggard and had dark circles under his eyes. He asked in a conflicted tone, “Is that the Liam Caprice keeps talking about?”
Piper smacked her lips and answered, “Yeah.”
Even from this distance, she could feel the imposing aura emanating from the man as he walked. She had never felt anything of that like from anybody else.
Who else could it be other than Liam? Trey pursed his lips and made no further comments, then he drove away.
Meanwhile, as soon as the car left Carter Tech City, Caprice received a text from Sylvia. “Hey, Caprice, our plane just landed in Westchester. My phone was turned off when you texted me last night, so | didn’t notice your message. Was there something urgent you needed from me?”
Caprice darted a sneaky glance at the man in the seat next to her, his air dignified and enchanting. She replied, “Hey, Aunt Sylvia, | was going to ask you to help me with something last night, but everything is fine now. Liam helped me take care of it.”
Sylvia answered, “That's good to know.” After several seconds, she followed up with another text. “By the way, Caprice, | heard you came
back to Westchester earlier than originally planned. | brought some gifts for you and my kids. Why don’t you come over for a visit today?”
Caprice smiled and announced the good news to Sylvia, “Actually, I’m already on my way to your place with Liam right now.” Sylvia was overjoyed. “Haha! That’s perfect! We're about to disembark from the plane. Talk to you later.”
Caprice replied, “Okay.”
She put away the phone and subtly stole a look to her side. She was going to steal a look at Liam but ended up meeting the sharp gaze in his depthless eyes.
He must have started staring at her at one point.
She jumped and asked nervously, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Who were you talking to?” Liam asked.
She smiled and told him, “I was texting your mother just now. They just landed in Westchester, and she mentioned she bought us gifts.”
“I see.” They spent the rest of the drive in silence. They ended up arriving only several minutes after Sylvia and Odell.
When the car stopped, Caprice noticed their driver’s car parked outside the entrance. A crew of bodyguards and the driver were unloading the luggage from the trunk.
Sylvia and Odell were inside the courtyard and talking to Flint and Isabel. Isabel stood next to Odell and was in the middle of opening a box.
Flint was massaging Sylvia’s shoulders while going on about something. It seemed like he must have told a joke because Sylvia was laughing heartily.
They were interrupted when Caprice showed up with Liam.
Chapter 1893
Chapter 1893 They turned to Caprice and Liam in unison.
The duo went up to them. Caprice smiled brightly and greeted Odell and Sylvia first in a cheery. voice, “Good afternoon, Uncle Odell and Aunt Sylvia.”
Then, she turned to Isabel and Flint. “Hey Isabel, hey Flint.”
“Hey!” Sylvia greeted her with the same warmth before taking a box out of the bag Odell was carrying. “Caprice, this is a special gift from your aunt. Open it! | hope you like it.”
Caprice took the box and opened it and found a handmade figurine inside. It was a figurine of her favorite anime character. She wanted to buy it in the past, but it was a limited edition that was only sold in Fosterland.
Her eyes lit up. She thanked Sylvia with a sharp thrill in her voice, “I love it! Thank you, Aunt Sylvia.”
Sylvia gently patted her head. “You're welcome. Come in!”
“Okay.”
Sylvia and Odell lead the way.
Flint went up to Caprice and observed the box in her hand, then he reached over and wanted to touch it.
Before Caprice could react, another hand came out of nowhere and slapped Flint’s hand away.
Liam shot Flint a sideways glance. “Shoo.”
Flint groaned, “I wasn’t going to take it. | just wanted to take a look.”
Liam ignored him and peered at Caprice before continuing to walk onward. The look he gave seemed to tell her to follow him.
Caprice was always an easygoing person. She shoved the box into Flint’s hands. “Take a look all you want, Flint. Just remember to give it back to me.”
With that, she marched forward to follow Liam.
Flint fiddled with the figurine, then he looked at Caprice and Liam walking side to side and grinned. He walked up to Isabel and propped his arms over her shoulders while murmuring, “Hey, sis, do you think they made up?”
Isabel looked at Caprice and Liam pensively and remarked, “It does seem like it, but | don’t think they’ve completely smoothened things out yet.”
“What makes you say that?” “Don’t you think they are acting slightly different from in the past?” Caprice had always clung onto Liam like a parasite back then.
Even though she was now following Liam around, why did it seem like she was making a point of keeping a careful distance from him?
Flint rubbed his chin and contemplated, “I wonder what happened between them.” Shortly after Liam entered the house, he went into the study with his father. Caprice sat with Sylvia, Flint, and Isabel and chatted away merrily.
At one point in the conversation, they steered the topic to Caprice.
Isabel was the one to initiate it. “Caprice, didn’t you go back to Glanchester for the summer vacation? Why are you back so soon?”
Caprice thought out her answer. “A good friend of mine had to leave her hometown earlier than expected. | was worried about her, so | decided to come back earlier as well to keep her company.”
She could not risk mentioning her working for Moses because Sylvia would let slip the information to her mother.
Liam may be aware of it as well, but she trusted him to not spill her secret. It was not like him.
Isabel and Flint exchanged a look before asking her, “Which friend? What does she do?”
She told them, “It’s my roommate Freya.”
“Oh...” Isabel exclaimed.
Caprice felt a hint of suspicion. Why did Isabel react that way? It seemed like there was a sense of relief in her tone.
“Caprice, have you been hanging around in your uni dorm these past few days?” Flint asked nonchalantly while slumped over the couch.
His eyes resembled Liam's. Their pupils were black holes that consumed all light. However, there was a different gleam in his eyes unlike his brother’s. He seemed very perceptive as if he could see through people with his fox-like stare.
Caprice figured that she did not have much to hide apart from her taking up a job at Moses’. She answered frankly, “Yeah, I’ve mostly been around the dormitory.”
“Have you been with that roommate of yours this entire time?”
“Yeah.”
Chapter 1894
Chapter 1894 She spoke with a certain bluntness. Her eyes were opened wide and her expression was darling. Flint remarked with a squint, “It must be pretty boring.”
Caprice refuted his point, “No, | hang out regularly with Frey. Piper and her brother came back a little while ago, so we hang out together every night.”
Flint stirred. He glanced at Isabel before asking, “Who is Piper? Who is her brother?”
“Piper is also my roommate. I’ve known her and her brother for a decade by this point. All of us are very close friends.” “Oh? Are they from Glanchester too?”
“Yes.”
Flint continued to ask tidbits about Piper and Trey while Caprice answered everything with stark honesty.
Until Sylvia interrupted Flint at one point, “Okay, enough talk about that. Why don’t you head up and see what your brother and father are talking about?”
“Okay, Mom.” Flint did as he was told. He rose and went upstairs. Sylvia turned to Isabel, “Isabel, let me talk to Caprice alone. Why don’t you go upstairs and join them as well?” Isabel smiled knowingly, she had a sense of what her mother was up to. With that, she went upstairs.
Immediately after she left, Sylvia turned to Caprice, “Caprice, you’ve been in Westchester for so many days already. Haven't you hung out with Liam?”
Caprice would love to, but Liam had a girlfriend. She knew she could not let it slip about his having a girlfriend, so she tried to brush the subject off. “He’s always so busy. | didn’t want to bother him.”
“He’s not that busy these days,” Sylvia said with a look at Caprice. “Besides, | remember you always went to see him a few years back, and that was during the peak of his busy schedule since he had just founded Carter Tech City then.”
“That's different.”
“What's different about it?”
Caprice lowered her head. “I... | was a child at the time. | wasn’t being considerate.”
Sylvia gently caressed her hair. “Caprice, tell your aunt the truth. Do you have a crush on some boy?”
“No,” Caprice answered hastily, then she quipped a look at Sylvia. “Aunt Sylvia, what made you ask me this?”
Sylvia peered into her clear and sincere eyes. She smiled and answered, “I was just asking because it seemed like you had something on your mind.”
“Oh.” Caprice smiled warmly at her. “I ran into a little bit of a situation yesterday. Everything is okay. now since Liam stepped in and helped me. Everything is okay now.”
Sylvia smiled faintly. “Good.” After a while, Isabel came down again and invited Caprice to the gaming room with her.
They used to play video games together all the time. Although Caprice was never too fond of video games, she had sweet memories of watching Liam and Isabel play.
They hung out in the gaming room for some time. At one point, the door was pushed open, and in came Liam’s tall figure. Isabel and Flint immediately put down the game controllers and dropped their playful banter.
Liam glanced at them, then his eyes landed on Caprice. “It’s time to eat.”
“Okay.” Caprice got up and walked out.
Isabel and Flint exchanged glances, then they went downstairs as well.
The housemaids were setting the dining table.
When Odell and Sylvia noticed the kids, they rose from the couch and joined them at the dining table.
Everyone sat down.
Flint settled next to Odell, and Isabel sat next to Sylvia. The two remaining spots were reserved for Caprice and Liam. Liam pulled out a chair and sat.
Caprice hesitated briefly before pulling the chair next to his and taking her seat.
Suddenly, she felt four pairs of eyes on her. All four of Sylvia, Odell, Isabel, and Flint were looking at her. There was what seemed like apprehension in their eyes.
She was puzzled by this and asked in a low voice, “What's wrong?” Sylvia hesitated to speak.
Isabel pursed her lips and seemed like she was stifling the urge to say something.
Chapter 1895
Flint coughed dryly.
Before anyone else could say anything, Liam spoke in his usual deep voice, “Nothing.” Sylvia gathered herself.
Isabel and Flint distractedly picked up the cutlery.
Odell glanced at Liam and said, “Let's eat.”
Caprice was puzzled by the sudden stiffness, and she snuck a glance at Liam who was beside her. There was not a single trace of emotion on his face, so she figured that it was probably all in her head.
She began eating.
Isabel had some work to do later that evening, thus she left after eating.
Flint had to return to the laboratory as well and excused himself shortly after.
Sylvia and Odell were still feeling jet-lagged from the overnight flight, and they needed some rest. After a short chat with Caprice, Sylvia turned to Liam. “Liam, take Caprice home.”
Liam grunted, “Hmm.”
Sylvia added, “Make sure you come back after that. | have something to tell you.”
Liam turned quiet for a moment before saying, “Okay.”
With that, Sylvia and Odell went upstairs.
Caprice followed Liam out of the house.
The weather was very fine today. As soon as they stepped outside they felt a gentle breeze beating against their bodies. It was the perfect weather for a nap.
Shortly after Caprice got into the car, she fell asleep with her head tilted to the side.
When she woke up, the car was parked at the entrance of Sparkrow University Girls Dormitory She found herself slumped against Liam's shoulder.
Her eyes flickered with shock. She quickly straightened herself and apologized to Liam, “Sorry, Liam, | fell asleep. | didn’t mean to do that.”
Liam expressed with a frown, “I wasn’t accusing you of doing it intentionally.”
So what if she had done it intentionally?
Why was she frantically apologizing for something so mundane?
He looked at her sharply.
Caprice had already unbuckled her seat belt and was halfway out the door.
Before Liam could get a word out, she smiled and turned to him. “Liam, I’m going. See you.”
With that, she stepped outside and shut the door with a thud before passing through the dormitory gate.
Liam growled irritably, “Let’s go.”
The driver swung the car around.
After roughly half an hour, he was home.
Sylvia had already woken up from her nap. She was sipping tea in the living room with a shawl thrown around her shoulder. Liam went to sit down on the armchair next to her.
Sylvia smacked her lips and began, “Liam, | was talking with Caprice and your siblings earlier this afternoon. We confirmed with
her that she doesn’t have any interest in any other man at the moment, and we’re pretty sure she still has feelings for you. Can you tell me what you feel about
her now?” Liam's eyes shifted. Why was she alienating him if she did not have any other romance going on?
Upon sensing his hesitation, Sylvia frowned faintly. There was no way to tell what the boy was thinking since he never let his emotions slip through. She changed her approach. “Do you still want to be with her? Do you want to marry
her?” Liam answered firmly, “Yes.”
Sylvia’s creased frown eased a little upon receiving this answer. She assured him, “Alright, I'll talk to Aunt Sherry about it, and we'll arrange the engagement.”
“Not yet.”
“Why?”
“Caprice...she’s still young.”
“She might be young, but she’s an adult. An engagement is fine.” Liam said pensively, “Okay.”
They could at least get engaged first.
Forget about what was on her mind for now. She belonged to him and him only, they were going to get engaged at one point or another anyway.
