Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2921
Bad News
“Larry, bad news!” Caspian barged in.
They knew when the usually unflappable Caspian got jittery, something serious had happened.
Jessica sprang to her feet and glared at the intruder.
“The project supervisor quit without notice,” Caspian continued as he tried to stay composed.
She slumped back on the couch, defeated. Tears were brimming in her eyes. She knew the loss was too great for Larry to bear.
“Also, the workers are going on strike because they didn’t get paid,” the bodyguard said with his head down.
Larry massaged his temples, deep in thought. Someone had orchestrated the whole situation and instigated the project supervisor to abscond with the workers’ salary.
Larry was completely at sea and stuck in a dead end. Jessica felt powerless. She wouldn’t know how to help with this project.
If something had happened in the fashion department, she could still use her limited knowledge to resolve the issues.
“Caspian, be sure to find the supervisor. And send someone to pacify the workers. Tell them they will be paid tomorrow,” Larry instructed calmly.
Jessica was impressed he could keep his head in such a crisis.
She quickly regain her composure and approached him slowly. “Larry, is there anything I can do?”
Her best friend was in trouble. If Larry could give her some guidance, she was confident that she would be an asset to him.
The man was hesitant to get her involved. Yet there weren’t many people he could trust.
“Jessica, find someone to tail Jake. Maintain a safe distance so he wouldn’t notice,” Larry said seriously.
He believed Jessica wouldn’t betray him.
“Okay!” she exclaimed and left the office, convinced that Jake had something to do with their predicament.
Indeed, the latter was the mastermind.
“What a coincidence, Ms. Zimmer! Are you stalking me now?” Jake chuckled as he walked in.
Their encounter was a pure coincidence.
“Why would I? You’re not as handsome as Larry or as sensible as Caspian,” she snapped.
Jake flared up when she mentioned Larry.
He swore under his breath and took a seat in front of Jessica. His eyes were cold and indifferent.
“I thought you liked Larry. When did you suddenly fall head over heels for Caspian? I bet Joan is a tough rival, huh?” he sneered.
She knew Jake was trying to provoke her, so she wouldn’t fall for his tricks. He had underestimated her close ties with Larry.
She set the spoon on the table, wiped her mouth, and looked up at him impassively. “Any Tom, Dick and Harry is better than you.” At that, she stood up to leave.
“Stop right there!” he roared and shoved her back into her seat.
His rudeness shocked her. Those who dared to offend Jake, no matter the gender, would suffer a tragic ending.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2922
Be On Guard
Jessica beamed as Jake flew into an abusive rage. She was surprised that it took little to rile him.
“Jessica!” Larry appeared. He had asked her out for lunch that day.
Jake turned around, paled, and watched him saunter towards them.
“Jake, what brings you here?” Larry asked coldly.
Jake gazed at him, smirking. He saw right through Larry’s pretense. Whatever is happening in Norton Corporation must be affecting him.
Larry, there’s more to come.
“Nothing.” He brushed some invisible dust off his shirt arrogantly and left.
Larry gritted his teeth at his departing silhouette before taking his seat as though nothing happened.
“So? Have you finally realized who you’re up against? Be on your guard whenever you’re dealing with Jake. He’s not someone to be trifled with,” Larry warned Jessica.
Suddenly, she understood his intention of inviting her to lunch. He knew Jake would pass by at that exact moment.
After he left them, Jake got into the car and pounded on the steering wheel. “You won’t get away with this!” At that, he sped away.
“Larry, do you really think he’s behind this?” Jessica asked.
He nodded as Jake drove off. Besides the latter, there was no one.
Jake had resorted to countless unscrupulous ways to win Joan’s heart. Despite his long-enduring efforts, he failed.
“Did you find anything about the guy I mentioned before?” Larry suddenly turned to her and asked curtly.
“Huh?” Jessica was dumbfounded.
“The guy who went to Joan’s house that day. Oh, and that old lady.”
It completely slipped my mind. She scratched the back of her head awkwardly and immediately took out her phone to make a call.
“Hey, I want you to run a background check on a man.”
How could she be so forgetful? Larry shook his head in disbelief. He took a sip of his coffee and left.
Jessica finally heaved a sigh of relief. She hung up the call and rushed to Joan’s place.
“What brings you here?” The latter was surprised when she opened the door.
Without another word, Jessica stormed in and scanned the house.
Her odd behavior baffled Joan.
Jessica turned around, eyes blazing with suspicion.
“What’s wrong?”
“Tell me. Are you hiding a man in the house?”
Joan could not help but chuckle when she saw her friend’s grim face.
I’m hiding from one now. Why would I want another?
Jessica patted her shoulder and grumbled, “Why are you laughing?” At the same time, she was relieved to see the woman’s reaction.
“Don’t worry. I’m not hiding a man here.” Joan patted her chest earnestly.
Jessica grinned because she finally had an explanation for Larry. Yet, she was still curious about the mysterious guy and his relationship with Joan.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2923
The Son Of The Lady Next Door
“But I heard that a man was here for you a few days ago,” said Jessica deliberately as she tilted her head.
Huh? Joan looked down, trying to recall the preceding event.
After a minute, she finally managed to remember.
“What nonsense have you been hearing? It was just the son of the lady next door. She was here to give me a cake, and her son came here to pick her up,” she explained.
Oh. So that’s what happened. Jessica’s mood improved almost instantaneously, which differed from Joan’s as she scrutinized the former unhappily.
Has she been watching me?
“Jessica, have you been monitoring me?” she questioned coldly.
Joan despised such behaviors the most. She preferred to sort things out face to face instead of doing things in the dark, especially when it involved her.
Oh, shit! I’m dead! Jessica’s whole body trembled.
How do I tell her that Larry’s the one who informed me about this and has asked me to investigate this matter? She’d definitely be devastated if I told her the truth since she has instructed me not to tell anyone regarding her whereabouts. But if I didn’t, she’d get the wrong idea about me.
Jessica was in a dilemma, but she still responded, “Of course not. What kind of person do you think I am? I wouldn’t be asking you in person if I had been watching you in secret, would I? It’s just that one of my friends, who had met you before, recently passed by this place, and she saw the man,” she lied with a straight face on, hoping that Joan would fall for it.
D*mn it, this is terrifying! Larry, you’d better treat me to a meal for this! Jessica clutched her chest, trying to calm her palpitating heartbeat.
“My poor heart. Do hang in there,” she mumbled to herself with her eyes closed.
“What are you talking about?” Joan suddenly whispered right beside her ear.
“Ah!” Jessica shrieked.
Her reaction only increased Joan’s suspicion. Why is she so nervous if she didn’t do anything wrong?
With that thought in mind, Joan leaned closer to Jessica as she stared intently at her. “Come on, spit it out, what the hell did you do?”
What can I do? All I did was lie a little, that’s all. Jessica’s gaze was darting all over the place, which further increased Joan’s doubt. She didn’t do anything that could betray Caspian’s trust, did she?
“Nothing! I’m just saving some money for myself! What’s so wrong about that?” replied Jessica, her eyes tightly shut. I don’t even know what I’m talking about!
Joan let out a chuckle upon hearing her answer. Oh. If that’s the reason, why is she so nervous, then?
With that, she turned around and entered the kitchen.
Just then, a knock sounded from the front door. Hearing that, Jessica immediately had her guard up. Joan, on the other hand, casually strolled toward the door after placing down the kitchen tool.
“Joan, my mom asked me to give you this.”
It’s a man’s voice!
Jessica made a beeline to the door. When she got to the entrance, she froze upon seeing the man.
Whoa! He’s gorgeous!
The man had thick and dark eyebrows, big piercing eyes, a high nose bridge, as well as a full, sexy lip.
He’s even more stunning than Larry!
“Hey, handsome. I’m Jessica,” she introduced herself while extending her right arm.
Slap! The sound echoed as Joan hit her friend’s shoulder while shooting daggers at her.
Jessica was aware that Joan had noticed her lovestruck state, but she just could not resist the man’s charm.
After all, no woman could resist the allure of a pretty face.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2924
Testing Joan
“Thank you. Send my regards to your mom,” uttered Joan politely.
So he’s the man Larry mentioned. Jessica stroked her chin while studying the man before her, nodding.
Since he’s this handsome, does Joan seriously not have any feelings for him? I doubt it! No. I can’t let this be. I have to find out!
After a moment of small talk, Johann Wright finally decided to leave.
“What’s inside the box? I want a taste too.” Jessica stared at the box in Joan’s hand curiously.
Joan thought to herself, I can’t believe this girl. All she thinks about is food.
Sometime later, a piece of freshly made pizza was presented in front of the women. “Here you go.”
Without any care in the world, Jessica instantly dug in, rendering Joan speechless. Joan stared at her friend for a minute before shaking her head and walking away.
“This is so delicious. You’re blessed to get such good food, you know,” remarked Jessica.
It was indeed fortunate that Joan had met some kind-hearted neighbors.
“Hey. Do you find that man attractive?” Jessica tried to sound Joan out.
“Hmm. He’s average, I guess.”
Larry’s the only attractive man for me.
Jessica breathed a sigh of relief after hearing her reply. What a shame. If I weren’t in a relationship with Caspian, I would’ve made a move on that guy!
“Do you think he likes you?” asked Jessica cautiously as she wrapped her arm around Joan’s shoulders.
What is up with her? She’s been spouting nonsense lately, and where did that question come from? Shaking her head, Joan sighed. “I think you have too much free time on your hands, Jessica, to the point that you’ve been thinking about trivial matters like this.”
Jessica indeed had too much free time. After all, since the bookstore had been going smoothly, she had nothing else to do. The only thing she was concerned about was matters that had to do with Larry.
A spark of mischievousness ignited within Jessica as she studied Joan. She never showed any signs of thinking about Larry, so much so that I don’t even have any idea if she still cares about him. Hmm… seems like I’m going to have to test her.
“Anyway, did you know that something has happened on Larry’s end?” she began, discreetly casting a glance toward Joan.
Clink!
Right at that moment, the spoon in Joan’s hand fell to the ground. After regaining her composure, she picked it up before asking in panic, “Why? What happened to him?”
Jessica was secretly pleased with her reaction. I knew it! She still cares about him. She’s just too stubborn to admit it. But why? Shouldn’t she be more straightforward when it comes to matters of love? If she keeps bottling it up, she’d be the one who will suffer.
“Look at you, getting all panicky. Have you fallen for Larry?”
“Wha- of course not!” Joan pushed the other woman away before striding to the bathroom.
Aww… She’s being shy! Staring at Joan’s petite figure, Jessica’s smile widened. If only you could see this, Larry.
After hanging out with Joan for a while, Jessica parted ways with the former. Since she had achieved her goal of finding out what relationship Joan had with that man, she could now go back and report the matter back to Larry.
“See? You can rest assured now,” stated Jessica as she gently patted Larry’s shoulder.
“Thanks for your help,” replied Larry flatly before walking toward his work desk.
That’s it? He’s not even going to treat me to a meal? “Hey, shouldn’t you show some appreciation?” asked Jessica in amusement.
Hearing that, Larry turned his body toward her and stared at her in all seriousness. “What do you mean?”
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2925
Problem Arises
Show my appreciation? I’ve already given her my cards! What more does she want? This woman is just too greedy!
Jessica stared at Larry while rubbing her chin. Her eyes lit up. “You know, I recently got my eyes on a shop located at a very strategic place. I want to turn that place into a bookstore, Larry.”
Larry glanced at her. Is she serious? Her greed increases day by day. Previously, she would only ask for money. Now, she’s directly asking me to buy her a shop?
“Won’t you please buy that shop for me, Larry? Since you’re this wealthy, surely the cost won’t mean much to you,” Jessica pestered coquettishly while shaking the man’s arm.
Thump!
A loud noise sounded from outside the office. Caspian, who was standing there, had witnessed everything and could no longer hold it. This d*mned woman. How could she pester Larry to that extent!
“Jessica, come here!” Caspian growled icily.
What’s with his tone? What is his problem? Puzzled, Jessica gawped at the man.
“Come here right now! Don’t you think you’re being shameless right now?” Caspian continued. Larry, however, wasn’t really bothered by it since he was already used to Jessica’s behavior.
Rendered speechless, Jessica slowly approached Caspian, displeasure evident in her gaze. Coming to a stop in front of the man, she extended a hand to tug on the ends of Caspian’s clothes. “Why are you so mad, Caspian? All I did was whine a little at Larry.”
Boiling with rage, Caspian immediately dragged her out of the office without replying to her.
Obviously, he was jealous.
Watching the couple, Larry shook his head before letting out a sigh. All of a sudden, images of Joan flashed in his mind. I wonder what she’s doing now. Is she okay?
He looked out the window, his face painted with sadness. How I wish I could meet her right now and bring her back to Ms. Young and Lucius to have a family reunion. Sadly, she hasn’t regained her memory yet. Besides, I don’t even know for sure if there really is nothing happening between her and that guy.
“Mr. Norton!” His assistant’s anxious voice broke his chains of thoughts. “Something happened! The color of our clothes is fading badly!”
What? Larry jumped to his feet, shocked by the news.
How did this happen? I have appointed someone to strictly check every process of creating the clothes, yet the color’s suddenly fading? Impossible! Someone must’ve sabotaged them!
“Let me have a look!” With that, he took his suit jacket and exited his office.
When he arrived at the factory, he stood rooted for a moment when he noticed that the water tanks were filled with numerous colors.
What in the world is going on? His mind went blank in an instant. “Where’s the supervisor?” he yelled. “I want to see him. Now!”
“Uh, h-he already left, Mr. Norton.” a woman came over and reported.
He did not hear anything beyond that to figure out that a traitor had been hiding among the staff.
Meanwhile, a group of people was complaining outside the factory, their tone was that of dissatisfaction.
“Where’s your boss? Let us see him! How do you expect us to wear this?”
“Yeah! The color’s fading so badly! We demand a refund!”
Larry felt extremely unsettled when he heard the complaints outside. It seemed that this time, he really was doomed.
“Are there any other clothes that are in good condition?” he asked the staff.
All of them simply shook their head without uttering anything.
In the meantime, the crowd became increasingly chaotic, to the point where the security could not hold them off anymore.
“You’d better leave now, Mr. Norton. The crowd is going to barge in anytime soon. They won’t let you off the hook that easily once they see you,” stated one of the department leaders of the factory.
Since the crowd was blinded with anger, they would inevitably do something that could harm other people out of impulse.
One by one, the major media began reporting this incident, and just like that, Norton Corporation became a laughingstock as well as the talk of the town.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2926
The Mastermind
Joan was sitting on the sofa, her gaze fixed intently at the television.
I wonder how Larry is doing. She clenched her fists, worry written all over her face.
As the president of the company, he must be blaming himself that something like this had transpired. Thinking about that man, Joan’s heart ached.
Meanwhile, Jessica stormed into Larry’s office. “What’s going on, Larry?”
Larry had his head in both his hands as he was plagued with a headache. What else could be going on other than me being betrayed by my own employee!
“Say something, Larry! What the hell is going on? Do you have any idea what people are gossiping about you right now?” shouted Jessica, panicking. She hated to see Larry in such a state, and she definitely did not want Norton Corporation to be mocked.
She knew how much effort and time Larry had spent for the company so that it could grow and develop well. But now, it seemed that all his hard-earned work had gone down the drain.
“Calm down, Jessica. Things like this are prevalent in the business world,” replied Larry coldly as he raised his head to look at her.
“There must be a mastermind behind this, right?” She gripped his arms tightly.
Larry fell into thought. Yeah. There must be, but I still have no clue who it could be. This is ridiculous!
“Could it be Jake?” Jessica suggested.
Upon hearing that particular name, Larry’s eyes gleamed. That’s right. Jake once said that he would take revenge on me. Could he be the one behind all of this? His expression darkened upon that thought.
Without waiting for Larry’s reply, Jessica left the office and headed straight to M Group.
Ad interim, Jake sat on the sofa in his office while staring at the ceiling, clearly lost in thoughts.
Thump!
Hearing the sound of his office door being slammed open, an amused smile tugged on the corner of his lips as his eyes landed on the fuming woman. Ah… alas, they’ve come.
“Tell me, were you the one behind it all?” shouted Jessica.
“Jessica, you’re not welcome here. Please see yourself out,” came Jake’s flat reply. So what if it was me? What is she going to do? It’s not like a mere woman like her can do anything to me. Speaking of which, I gotta admit that she does have balls of steel to come here alone and make a fuss. How shameless.
Jake could be described as an angel in disguise. Although his appearance gave off a vibe like that of a gentleman, he was actually a snake. Jessica glared at him, wishing that she could beat him up right then and there.
“What on earth do you want, Jake? Every choice that Joan made was hers and hers alone. Nobody was forcing her, and it’s not like Larry’s with her, so you can’t do this to him!”
“Get the hell out!” Jake roared. What a joke! I have a clear vision of what I want. A woman like her isn’t worthy to nag at me!
“Karma’s coming for you soon, Jake! When that day comes, even the heavens will not be in your favor!” Jessica warned while being dragged away by the guards.
When they were outside, the guards threw Jessica onto the ground.
“Ugh…” She stood up and dusted herself off. That jerk. Who would have thought he could be this vicious?
“Go on and leave, Jessica. Stop embarrassing yourself.”
Some distance away, Larry’s voice sounded and she shot a look at him. What does he mean by I’m embarrassing myself? I came here to seek justice for him! thought Jessica.
After bringing Jessica back, Larry began to analyze the situation. No. I can’t let Jake oppress me like this nor let him continue to humiliate the Norton family. I need to do something!
As Larry was deep in thought, Jessica was on the sofa, rubbing her injured waist endlessly.
“Now that I’m injured, I doubt I’ll be of any help to you anymore, Larry. Don’t give up, though! We can’t sit idle and let things be!”
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2927
A Call From Joan
Of course I won’t let things be. Larry stared out the window with his fists clenched as his face turned grim. You’re dead meat, Jake Wilson.
“Are you all right?”
At this moment, Dustin, Caspian and the rest rushed in.
Despite only meeting them yesterday, Jessica was still moved to see them here as if they had not met in a long time.
“Of course I’m all right. I’m Jessica Zimmer, after all. Nothing can hurt me!” uttered the woman proudly as she patted her chest. “I never expected that you guys would come all the way here to see me, though. Thank you.” She lowered her head, feeling a bit shy.
Nancy was bewildered after hearing her words. When did we say that we came here for her? We’re here because of Larry!
“Jessica, where on earth did you get that idea? We’re here to discuss the solutions to this issue with Larry,” answered Nancy straightforwardly.
In an instant, Jessica clucked her tongue in dissatisfaction. So it’s just my wishful thinking, but so what? Must she burst my bubble like that?
Bearing that thought in mind, Jessica turned her head away, refusing to entertain the guests any longer.
“We have to focus on appeasing our customers first, which means we need to create high-quality clothes in a short time,” Larry began.
Because they had no solid proof that Jake was the mastermind behind this incident, they could not make a move on him.
All this happened due to my negligence. Since my business is still in its development stage, I thought no one would stir up trouble. Evidently, I was proven wrong. I had totally overestimated Jake. Never would I have envisioned that he would employ such a despicable trick!
Larry gritted his teeth as a cold aura exuded from him.
Ring! Ring!
All of a sudden, his phone rang loudly on the table. Too engrossed in his thoughts, Larry failed to notice it. When Jessica glanced at the screen, her eyes instantly sparkled.
“Larry! It’s Joan! She’s calling you!” she exclaimed excitedly before handing the phone to him.
“Um, are you okay?” Joan’s voice came through when he answered the phone. “I saw the news regarding Norton Corporation, and, well…”
Is she worrying about me? I knew it! Guess that means I still have a place somewhere in her heart.
Larry chuckled upon that thought before replying to Joan, “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Was that a chuckle I heard? How could he be that relaxed in such a situation? Jessica gaped at Larry, baffled.
“Rest assured. I’ll definitely settle this issue.”
Hearing that, the others in the room finally understood the reason behind Larry’s wide smile.
After the call ended, everyone also broke into a smile as their eyes gleamed with joy. At last, Joan is starting to care about Larry! Even Caspian, the man who did not fancy smiling that much, was excited. I guess it’s only a matter of time before they reconcile!
All of them stayed for some time to discuss the matter. Although they had not come up with any specific plans at the end, they were able to grasp the idea of what they should be doing. For now, they would be focusing on devising a solution for the issue at hand instead of taking revenge on Jake.
“Fret not. I will take full responsibility for this issue by gifting everyone a batch of newly-produced clothes completely free of charge as an apology,” was what Larry had announced to the media.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2928
A Gesture From Jessica
Everyone was stunned upon hearing Larry’s announcement, for they realized that it would cost him a heavy price to remake a new batch of clothes.
“Is Larry out of his mind? How could he even think of that?”
“Tell me about it. Who on earth manages their business like this? I bet he’ll go bankrupt soon.”
“Yeah. Norton Corporation is not going to last long, it seems.”
The people kept gossiping about Larry’s solution to the problem. However, what they did not know was that he had been preparing for this. Turned out, he had decided to spend his own money to re-produce the clothes. Larry had never been someone who cared about wealth, after all. On top of that, he believed that he would receive a good deed in return, so spending that paltry amount of money was no problem for him.
“Say, Larry. How much have you spent on this?” asked Jessica cautiously as she lightly poked his arm.
Larry turned to look at her with a serious expression. Despite so, he had no intention of answering her question.
“Well? Why are you keeping me on edge? Answer me!”
Jessica seemed extremely anxious, for she feared that Larry had invested all of his assets into re-creating the clothes. How is he supposed to support Joan if he’d lost everything?
“Why are you so keen to know?” questioned Larry, growing annoyed.
“Never mind that. Just answer me!”
“Stop it! Enough with your nonsense!” Finally, Larry had reached his limit. Why must she grumble about every single thing lately?
After a long while, the crowd finally dispersed. Even so, Jessica kept trailing behind Larry as if she fear that he would flee from her.
“Caspian, won’t you stop your future wife from pestering me?” stated Larry unhappily as he fixed his gaze on the other man.
Upon hearing that, Caspian was at a loss for words. I’m the one that always gets bossed around by Jessica. There’s no way I would dare to stop her.
Despite that, he still approached her and gently tugged on the corner of her shirt, signaling her to control herself. The woman only shot him an “OK” gesture as she remained silent.
Scrutinizing Larry, she could not bear it any longer, so she took her bag from the side to fish out her purse. After that, she calmly whipped out a few cards from inside.
Hmm? What is she doing now? Lifting his head, Larry looked at Jessica curiously.
“Larry, these are all the cards you gave in the past. I’m aware that you’re not expecting me to repay you, but you’re in a bind now, and I can’t just sit idly by doing nothing. You can use these cards as you please, and by the time you get back on your feet, only then can you repay me.”
Jessica glanced at the cards she had placed on the table with a pained expression. I think all of these should add up to a million. Goodbye… my money.
Unable to contain himself, Larry let out a chuckle. Caspian, on the other side, also covered his mouth to try and stifle his laugh.
What in tarnation is going on in this woman’s head? Staring at the cards, Larry was beyond amused by Jessica’s gesture. How could I take back what I have gifted someone?
“No need. You can take them back,” he remarked while pushing the cards back to Jessica.
The latter was tempted to put the cards back inside her purse, but she held herself back by turning her head away, staying firm with her decisions.
“Just accept my offer, Larry. Your problems are my problems too, so you can use the money as long as… you repay me,” she replied in embarrassment with her head hung low.
How could she say that to Larry when all of that was his money, to begin with? Caspian gave her a nudge in an attempt to silence her. However, Jessica did not even bat an eye at him.
“That’s enough. Don’t worry, Jessica. I’m not short of money,” stated Larry with a smile.
Truthfully, he did indeed lack money. However, he valued Jessica much more valuable than money itself.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2929
Investment Offer
After hearing that, Jessica’s face instantly brightened up.
“Really? You still have money?” she asked as she leaned on the table, staring at Larry with her doe-like eyes.
This punk… I know she’s only doing this out of courtesy. Larry knocked on her head lightly with his knuckles before nodding.
“What about money for dates? Do you have enough for that? You know you’ll need to spend a lot to court Joan, like treating her to meals and movies, as well as buying her beauty products,” she uttered while counting the mentioned activities with her fingers.
When did she become this talkative? Caspian stared at Jessica before unconsciously letting out a yawn, while Larry gazed intently at her, feeling happy that his somewhat adorable god-sister was thinking for his sake.
“Here. I still think it’s best if you have them.”
“No. You can keep it. Who knows, maybe it’ll come in handy when you hang out with Joan,” stated Larry.
Huh… I suppose he’s right!
Convinced, Jessica scooped the cards from the table and put them back into her purse. Caspian shook his head as he watched the scene unfold right before him. Since when has she become this materialistic? Despite the thought, adoration still filled his eyes as he gazed at the woman he loved.
“Okay! I’ll take my leave then! I’m gonna go take Joan out shopping now!” she informed before she skipped out of the office, looking like a happy child.
When she was no longer in sight, Caspian approached Larry and told him seriously, “You should have kept the cards, Larry, since you need the money more than anyone else right now.”
Even though Larry was short on funds now, he was still determined to stay strong and deal with this situation himself.
“Don’t worry. Everything will be fine,” he replied with an assuring smile.
Soon, the issue was starting to get resolved. Nevertheless, the employees’ salaries remained a hurdle to Larry since he was still strapped for cash.
Norton Corporation had almost reached its rock-bottom before. Deprived of better options, he had decided to shift the company’s direction into a fashion industry. Unfortunately, just when his business was beginning to stabilize, such an incident occurred, which triggered his anxiety. The reason being, at the early stages of the company’s sudden change, he had invested a large sum of money. Even before the current incident, they had already suffered a huge loss. Hence, the current economic situation was a massive downturn.
Sitting on the sofa in his office, Larry closed his eyes as he massaged his temples, trying to calm himself down.
Entering the office, Caspian questioned in concern, “Larry? What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?”
Larry simply waved his hand in response. He had been feeling lost recently. Was the shift a mistake? Is the company suffering now because I was too stubborn back then?
Larry smacked his head harshly, trying to get a hold of himself.
“Larry, what are you doing?” Caspian was growing anxious upon witnessing Larry hitting himself. He understood that the latter must be feeling frustrated, so he wished to help Larry with all his might.
“Larry!” All of a sudden, Jory’s voice echoed as he barged into the office.
Huh? What is he doing here? Larry raised his head and stared at the man in confusion.
“Larry!” Another voice sounded. This time, it was Nancy.
What’s going on? What are they doing here?
“Nancy said she wants to invest in your company.” Jory’s sudden declaration startled Larry, but he was quick enough to recompose himself.
“This isn’t a joke, Nancy. How are you going to invest when you don’t understand a thing about the fashion industry?” Larry warned.
How could he say that when I’m here to invest? Nancy scrutinized Larry, puzzled. Shouldn’t he be happy instead? Besides, it’s obvious I know that this isn’t a joke! I just want to help him!
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2930
True Friends
“It doesn’t matter if I don’t understand a thing. I’ll still just follow your lead,” Nancy replied while patting Larry’s shoulder.
Jory felt helpless as he observed how determined his wife was.
“Mr. Norton, since Nancy is resolved in helping you, let’s just prepare all the relevant documents,” he suggested, indirectly agreeing with Nancy.
Larry thought to himself, Aren’t they being a bit too reckless right now?
Naturally, Jory would not mind lending Larry some money, for he knew how dire the situation that the latter was in right then. He was willing to help Larry, just like how Dustin was willing to befriend him back then.
No one would have imagined that these two men started off as enemies and had become such good friends today.
“Thank you,” uttered Larry gratefully.
“Hey! Count me in!” Jessica dashed toward them.
Judging by how hard the woman was panting, Larry suspected that she was up to something again.
“Here! This is everything I’ve got, and I’m giving them to you. After you make enough money, you’ll have to repay me twice as much!” she exclaimed while patting her chest as Larry stared at her, perplexed.
“You don’t have to hide it from me, Larry. I know you’re broke now because Joan told me, and she even asked me not to ask any more money from you.”
Larry was shocked. What? How did Joan know? I don’t remember telling her anything about this.
“Hats off to Joan for guessing everything so accurately,” mumbled Jessica.
Ah. So she guessed it herself. I guess we’re really connected, huh? A smile of satisfaction crept across Larry’s face.
“Are these enough? If not, I can sell the bookstore.”
“Don’t! You can’t do that!” Caspian rushed in, panicking upon hearing that statement.
On the other hand, Jessica could not care less. It’s just a bookstore, anyway. I can reopen them. Right now, we need to help Larry by any means possible.
“Thank you all so much,” said Larry, full of gratitude.
In all honesty, the only reason he could get this much help was because he had helped each of them before. In the end, he accepted Nancy’s offer. However, he remained strict on not taking Jessica’s cards back.
Meanwhile, in Jake’s office, Ted was reporting Larry’s situation to him. “Mr. Wilson, I heard that Larry’s able to settle his problem. What’s more, Norton Corporation has gained another shareholder. Her name is Nancy Barrymore.”
That Larry is truly something else. I didn’t expect that he managed to get Nancy to invest in his company. Jake bit his lip in frustration.
“What are we going to do now, Mr. Wilson?”
“For now, we do nothing, because Larry will surely retaliate against us if we make another move,” he replied flatly while staring out the window.
This is only a short preview of my ability, Larry. Next time, you won’t be as lucky!
Jake bit his lower lip so harshly that blood oozed out and trickled down.
In the meantime, some of Larry’s previous business partners complimented him to no end, face noticeably filled with joy.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Norton. We would have suffered in paying a fine if not for your decision to remake a new batch of clothes.”
“I agree. Not only that, but the quality of these new clothes is also out of this world.”
Thank goodness. I’m glad that they are satisfied. It’s safe to say that I’ve reached my goal. Larry breathed out a relieved sigh. After a moment of chit-chat with them, he excused himself.
“Has that supervisor been found yet?”
“No,” answered Caspian in an apologetic tone as he lowered his head. In order to confirm that Jake was the mastermind behind this incident, the first step was to search for the supervisor who had escaped.
Hearing the other man’s reply, Larry narrowed his eyes and gazed out the window.
