I Cannot Fail Jessica

She’s plotting something, I’m sure of it! She obviously knows that she is not supposed to get pregnant, but she still chooses to delay it. How conniving! Joan’s face turned cold at once.

Ring! Ring!

Joan took a look at her phone and dithered. Nonetheless, she answered the call.

“Hi, Joan. Where are you guys? Why are all of you gone?” Jessica asked anxiously.

Joan racked her brain for an excuse and lied miserably, “I… Uhm, I’m out.”

“I know you’re out now, but where are you? I’ll go over now.”

What? She wants to come here? No way! Joan hurriedly said, “Uhm, I think it’d be better if you tell me where you are and let me come to you instead.”

What happened to Joan? Why does she sound so panicky? Jessica glanced at her phone in puzzlement, baffled by her behavior. Caspian, too. It’s been so many days. Why is he not back yet? Where has he gone?

She narrowed her eyes and stared out of the window, feeling inexplicably unsettled.

After Joan hung up the call, she turned to Caspian and informed, “That was Jessica calling. Caspian, you have to settle this.”

He looked up at her in shock. No! I can’t fail Jessica! But what about this woman whom I’d slept with?

His brows were furrowed deeply as he found himself in a dilemma.

Seeing that Caspian had fallen silent, Lisa suggested, “Caspian, I don’t want to put you in a tight spot. How about this? If I’m not pregnant, I promise I won’t bother you anymore. But if I’m pregnant, I want to stay with you.”

“Okay,” he answered, deeply moved by her words.

“Caspian!” Joan could not help but raise her voice. How could he agree to that? God knows who the father of the baby in her tummy is.

Joan shot daggers at Lisa. This woman is so annoying!

“Caspian, you have to think through this matter carefully,” she advised.

Yeah, I know that I can’t make the promise recklessly, but I can’t be an irresponsible man as well. Caspian gave her a weak smile and said, “Joan, if the baby is really mine, I’ll definitely take the kid in.”

This guy is unbelievable! Apparently, he only listens to Lisa, not us. Larry and I have been trying to talk some sense into him, but he pays absolutely no heed to our advice.

Joan gave Lisa the side-eye disdainfully. I hate hypocritical, dramatic women the most. They gain favor with men by making themselves look pitiful.

In the end, Caspian opted to wait for Lisa’s pregnancy test results first before deciding what to do next.

As Larry and Joan walked to their car, she held onto his arm and asked, “Hmm, what do you think of Lisa? Is she really pregnant?”

How would I know the answer? The pregnancy test result is not out yet. Larry let out a sigh and stared ahead, finding it a shame that Caspian had gotten himself in this messy situation.

“I don’t think he’ll change his mind.” Larry voiced out his opinion.

Joan nodded in reply. Exactly. Whether it’s work or relationship matter, he’s always been rather strong-willed. Our biggest concern now is Jessica. Neither of us knows how to tell her about this.

After that, both of them went back to the office.

As Larry flipped through the files in his hands, Jessica suddenly barged into his office in a light-hearted manner. “Larry!”

He gave her a glance and sighed inwardly as he knew what she was here for. She then came over to him and tapped on the desk lightly. “Larry, where were you at just now? I called you guys, but only Joan picked up the call.”

Why is she so quick-tempered? Looking at her, Larry could feel his headache coming on.

“Uhm, is Caspian with both of you just now?” Jessica continued.

Ignoring her questions, he diverted the topic. “Why are you here?”

Something Must Have Happened

She smiled awkwardly in response before running towards him and hugging him from behind. Frowning, Larry reminded, “Hey, a lady like you should be demure. Don’t you care about your image?”

Image? When have I ever cared about my image in front of him? Jessica pouted and whined, “Larry, why don’t you tell me? Is Caspian still angry with me?”

He had slept with another woman, but she’s still here worried if he’s upset with her! Indignance flashed across Larry’s eyes as he felt it was unfair for Caspian to treat her like this.

“Larry, what’s wrong? Did something happen to him? Is he okay?” she asked worriedly.

He is a buff, tough man. What could happen to him? Larry shook his head and said, “If there’s nothing else, you should leave first. I still have some work to do here.”

Wait, I must’ve missed something. Jessica eyed him suspiciously, displeased. She pressed on. “Where is Caspian?”

“How would I know where he is at right now?” he lied through his teeth.

Upon hearing his answer, she quickly fished out her phone and dialed Caspian’s number, but the call did not get through.

She felt even more uneasy now. Did Caspian cheat on me? A cold glint flitted across her gaze. He’s been avoiding me for so long. I don’t believe that nothing has happened to him.

Just then, Larry’s phone rang. He peered at the caller ID and cleared his throat. Under the eyes of Jessica, he picked up the phone nervously.

“Yes?” he answered, casting a glance towards Jessica who was standing at the side.

“Larry, the result is out. She’s pregnant,” he informed guiltily.

Larry’s expression grew grim. Sh*t, Lisa is really pregnant!

Sighing, he averted his gaze and stared out of the window. “What are you going to do then?”

Caspian went quiet at that question. Although he did not answer, Larry knew that he would definitely want the baby.

“Larry, you know that I’ve always wanted to be a father. Now that God has given me a child, I really don’t want to let the chance slip by.”

Let the chance slip by? If it weren’t for his mistake that night, he would not have gotten himself into this situation. What about Jessica now?

Turning around, Larry looked at Jessica, who was sitting on the couch at the side, with a somber look on him. Undeniably, he felt aggrieved for her.

“Let’s meet later.” Larry left a sentence and hung up.

“Was it Caspian?” Jessica questioned and sipped on the tea in her hand.

Larry was taken aback for a moment before flashing her an awkward smile. “Ah, it was a business partner. He invited me for a meal later.”

He’s lying! She immediately rose to her feet and strode towards him with a cold expression. “Larry, tell me. What is actually going on? Is Caspian in trouble?”

He did get into trouble, and this time, it’s not a small mistake. Refusing to answer her, Larry got up, took his jacket, and walked out of his office.

She watched his retreating figure disappear from her sight, the anxiety in her grew.

What had happened to Caspian? Why hasn’t he contacted me yet? Utterly confused, she crouched down and held her head in her hands as millions of thoughts raced through her mind. A few seconds later, she sprang up to her feet as a plan formed in her mind.

Unbeknownst to Larry, Jessica was trailing behind him to see if he was going to meet Caspian.

Before long, their cars came to a stop in front of a café, and Larry went inside. Waiting inside her car, Jessica could not help but wonder why they would want to meet at a café. She glanced around and mentally prepared herself.

Meanwhile, inside the café, Larry looked up from his coffee and gave Caspian a solemn look. “Have you made up your mind?”

My Flesh And Blood

“Yeah,” Caspian replied somberly.

“How are you going to tell Jessica about this? You two have been together for so long. Still, you want to give her up for the baby.” Larry could not help but express his disappointment with Caspian’s decision.

Needless to say, Caspian knew that it was his fault, but he had no other choice but to wrong Jessica. He did not know what else he could do.

“I want the baby. That kid is my own flesh and blood, Larry,” he replied determinedly.

“Caspian, are you heartless? Do you still remember the woman who stayed by your side when you were at the lowest point of your life? Now that she’s no longer youthful, you want to ditch her for a younger woman. Kudos to you, man!” Larry’s tone was dripping with sarcasm, as was his gesture of tapping Caspian on the shoulder.

“Larry, I know I’ve failed Jessica, but the child is innocent.”

What a load of b*llshit! Is Jessica not innocent as well? Has he ever taken her feelings into consideration?

“Whatever. I don’t care anymore. Good luck. Besides, you should tell Jessica about this as soon as possible. Consider yourself warned.” With that, Larry left in a huff. He knew full well that he could not change Caspian’s mind, so he was left with no choice but to give up on him.

Looking from the outside, Jessica could see that Caspian was seated at a corner table with his head lowered forlornly after Larry left.

Seeing him being like that puzzled her, but she did not have the courage to go in and ask him.

He looks so low-spirited. Something must have happened to him. Running her fingers through her hair, she looked at him in concern. But why doesn’t he tell me?

She stared at him in dissatisfaction.

While over on the other side, Larry headed back to the company after leaving the café.

As soon as he entered his office, Joan, who had been waiting for him, got up from the couch and queried, “Where have you been?”

He walked over to his desk, looking calm and composed. “What makes you come here?”

“That girl is really pregnant. What should we do now? We can’t let Caspian break up with Jessica and marry that girl,” she said exasperated.

He let out a scoff in response. Caspian has clearly made up his mind to marry that girl. There’s no point for us in worrying about him from now on.

“I keep having the feeling that there is more to that matter. Caspian has always wanted to have a child, but Jessica is not ready to get married yet.” The more she spoke, the worrier she got.

Exactly. Now that he finally has a kid, for sure he’ll want to take the kid in. Larry shook his head in dismay and let out a sigh.

Besides, I really can’t bring myself to like that girl. It’s not because of her background, but because of her character. Jessica is way better than her in all aspects.

After a while, Larry finally responded, “Give him some time to think it through.” If he really wants to end his relationship with Jessica, there’s nothing we could do to stop him.

The next day, Caspian went to visit Lisa. As soon as he entered the house, she looked at him with her tear-streaked face and whimpered. “Caspian, the baby is yours, I swear.”

Yeah, I’m the one who makes her pregnant. How can I have the heart to abandon her and the child?

After hesitating for a while, he finally steeled his resolution. “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of you,” he assured, patting her shoulder gently.

Upon hearing his promise, she hugged him in return and smiled victoriously with a cold glint flashing across her eyes. Caspian’s finally mine! No matter how Larry disrupts my plan, it’s near impossible to change his mind.

Meanwhile, in Delilah’s house, Joan nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard Larry telling her the decision Caspian had made. “What did you say? Does he really want to marry Lisa? Is he out of his mind?”

Caspian is a fool! How could he fall into that woman’s trap? It’s as clear as day that she’s up to no good.

I Will Find Him Myself

But there he is, going to Lisa’s place every day. If this goes on for long, there’s no way Jessica wouldn’t know about the woman he’s hiding. No, I can’t let him marry her. No one knows for sure who the father is.

Sitting on the couch, Joan crossed her arms and huffed in exasperation.

All of a sudden, Jessica came into the living room. “I wonder who’s the one that makes you so pissed off, Joan.”

Crap! Did she overhear what I said just now? “Hi, what brings you here tonight?” Joan immediately rose to her feet and welcomed Jessica before casting a worried glance at Larry, who was sitting at the side.

“If I were not here, I’d probably miss out on seeing your angry expression,” Jessica said light-heartedly.

Then, she turned to Larry and placed her hands on her hips, feigning a stern expression. “Larry, did you bully her? If you dare to bully Joan, Nancy and I will hunt you down, you hear me?”

She did not mention Abelyn because Jessica no longer considered her as their bestie.

Upon hearing her, Larry raised his gaze and glanced at both of them with a smile tugging on his lips. Without saying anything, he then stood up and headed to the study.

“What happened? Are you alright?” Jessica inquired, scrutinizing Joan’s face.

Truth be told, she had heard what Joan said a little while ago. It was just that she did not want them to worry about her, so she chose to pretend that she did not hear anything.

Besides, she wanted to check the matter between Caspian and Lisa on her own. I don’t believe Caspian would do such a treacherous deed.

“I’m fine. Anyway, you’re here for…” Joan’s voice tapered away as she looked quizzically at her.

“I haven’t seen Caspian for the past few days. I’m a bit worried, so I came here to ask you and Larry his whereabouts,” Jessica replied.

Since I’m here already, I’ll have to continue putting on an act. If I tell Joan that I’m here to ask her to go shopping together, it wouldn’t sound convincing.

Racking her brain to think of an excuse, Joan avoided her gaze and rubbed her neck awkwardly. “Oh, Caspian. Uh, Larry asks him to handle some projects, so he is busy with work recently.”

She had never been familiar with their work, so her explanation just now did not make any sense to Jessica.

However, she did not expose her and merely gave her a smile in response because she knew that Joan meant well.

And Larry was well aware of their interaction.

Jessica doesn’t have to do that. She’s known everything but is still pretending not to know anything. She may be able to deceive Joan but not me!

Standing beside the railings upstairs, Larry heaved a sigh and shook his head before trudging away.

After they exchanged a few more words with each other in the living room, Jessica left and started her search for Caspian.

This town is only this big. I’m sure I can track him down.

Based on the information she had now, she took a wild guess that they would come to the hospital to have a check-up, so she had come waiting for them to show up.

She did not know how long she had been waiting outside the hospital, but she eventually saw Caspian at the entrance that afternoon.

“Are you feeling alright?” Caspian said as he held Lisa up the stairs.

She nodded with a smile and said nothing.

This b*tch has the nerve to steal my boyfriend!

Looking at their affectionate interaction, Jessica punched the steering wheel in a fury and started her car.

Screech! A car came to a halt beside Caspian and Lisa.

Frowning, he turned towards the car and looked at the driver. The moment he saw the driver’s appearance, he froze on the spot. Why is she here? In a split second, he panicked.

“Long time no see, Caspian.” Jessica stepped out of her car and removed her sunglasses. Upon seeing her, he instinctively backed away as a look of embarrassment crossed his face.

“Caspian, do you know her?” Lisa asked.

She Is My Ex

“Yes, of course, we do. Not only do we know each other, but we are really close. But who are you? He has never mentioned you before,” Jessica responded while a cold glint flashed in her eye.

Lisa failed to sense her irony and approached to shake her hand. “Hello, nice to meet you. I’m Lisa, Caspian’s girlfriend.”

Girlfriend? Jessica sneered. Then, who am I to Caspian? Is this a joke?

“Jessica, if there is anything, let’s talk about it tomorrow.” Upon saying, the man beside reached to grab the young lady’s hand, intended to leave the spot.

“Why do we need to wait till tomorrow? Since we have already met, let’s sort everything out.” Jessica pretended to be carefree.

What is going on? What exactly should be sorted out? Don’t tell me this woman has a relationship with Caspian. At that instant, Lisa’s guard went up, while her eyes filled with disdain.

“Why? Are you afraid? Caspian, why don’t you tell her who I am? Would you?” Jessica started to raise her tone towards Caspian.

Never had she ever thought that Caspian who had always seemed so honest turned out to be a j*rk too.

“Caspian, what’s going on? Who is she?” The lady asked softly while tugging at Caspian’s shirt.

“Um…about that. She’s my ex-girlfriend,” He answered while lowering his head.

Ex-girlfriend? Is he kidding me?

With that, Joan raised her hand and slapped Caspian on his face.

Instantly, Lisa froze on the spot.

Jessica was not a fool. She understood perfectly that what Caspian meant was that she was no longer his girlfriend.

This son of a b*tch! Feeling humiliated, she turned and walked away, without hesitation this round.

Looking at Jessica’s car driving away, Caspian’s eyes flashed with guilt and sorrow. In contrast, Lisa beside him was secretly elated. If I’m not mistaken, she must be Jessica. An evil expression loomed over her face.

“Ughh…” Out of the blue, Lisa let out a cry.

“What’s wrong?” Caspian turned around and asked with a concerned look.

“Caspian, my stomach hurts…”

On the other hand, Jessica was bawling her eyes out while driving recklessly on the road.

Caspian, how could you do this to me? What have I done to you to deserve your betrayal? All our promises and dreams turn out to be a big fat lie. Are they all jokes to you?

She kept on driving while wiping her unstoppable tears. At that very moment, all she could think about was Caspian.

Out of a sudden, a car sped in her direction but she did not realize it.

Bang!

“What did you say? Jessica went to see you? When was it? Where is she now? What did you tell her?” Jessica sounded utterly displeased on the phone.

Caspian was trembling uncontrollably as he felt extraordinarily uneasy for no apparent reason.

“Joan, I have no idea where she went. Would you please try to find her? I’m worried about her,” Caspian begged in a low voice.

Worried? Are you serious? Who knows? Maybe she’s already dead! Lisa, sitting in the living room, let out a cruel glance while listening to Caspian’s conversation.

Yes, I wish she were dead. Then, Caspian will be mine forever.

“Caspian, if anything happens to Jessica, I’ll hold you responsible. Just mark my words.” With that, Joan hung upon him and immediately left her place.

“Where’re you heading?” Larry yelled from behind.

“To find Jessica!” Joan replied without turning her head.

What has Caspian done? Why is Joan in such a hurry? Without hesitating, Larry caught up with Joan.

Car Crash

After the call ended, Caspian stomped his foot in a panic. He did not realize Lisa was staring at him ferociously with an extremely jealous look.

What a dumb fool! Full of wrath, she stormed out and went upstairs. Jessica, don’t you dare appear in front of us ever again!

Bang! The young lady shut the door upstairs forcefully, leaving Caspian in a sudden shock.

Did I do something wrong? He sat decadently on the couch with both his hands wrapping around his head. If something happened to Jessica, how am I going to explain to Larry?

“Doctor! Doctor! How’s her?” At the hospital, Joan was grabbing one of the doctors’ arms while asking anxiously.

“I’m sorry. We need to do the operation right now. Excuse me!” The doctor pushed her hand away.

At that moment, Joan was dumbstruck.

Indeed, Jessica had met with a car accident. When Joan saw her, she was covered in blood. Caspian, d*mn you! What have you told her?

Bam! Joan slammed her fist into the wall, causing blood to trickle down her fingers. A second later, she took out her phone and informed everyone.

In truth, she wanted to see what Caspian would do.

Before long, Larry and Nancy arrived at the hospital.

“I didn’t expect the outcome would be like this. Am I wrong for wanting my own child? Jessica refused to get married up till now, and she doesn’t want any kid. All her focus is on her career. As a man, I also need a real family, don’t I?” Caspian explained in a low voice.

Instantly, silence ensued in the hospital. Indeed, both should be held responsible in this matter.

Nancy could not dare to keep her eyes off the operating room, as she feared she would miss out on anything.

“So? You have decided to break up with her and be with that woman?” Joan’s tone sounded sharp.

Yes. What else can I do now? After all that he had done to that young lady, of course, he would need to be responsible to her.

Caspian nodded slightly, leaving Larry utterly confounded.

“From now on, you don’t need to come to Norton Corporation anymore. And don’t ever appear in front of any of us. We will take care of Jessica. That’s all. You can leave now.”

Larry turned his back on him and spoke faintly, trying hard to suppress his rage. Due to his long relationship with Caspian, he chose to let him go unscathed. However, he had always treated Jessica like his own sister, and he would never allow anyone to harm her.

Caspian reluctantly lifted his head and gazed at that group of people. His expression was utterly torn, as his last wish was to make sure Jessica was fine before he disappeared from her world.

“Um…Let me wait for Jessica…” Caspian choked on his words.

“You don’t have any right to see her anymore! Don’t worry. I’m sure she will find a man who is way better than you!” Larry responded coldly.

Just then, the red light was turned off.

“The patient’s family!” The doctor shouted as soon as he stepped out.

“Yes!” Joan replied at once.

Part Ways

“The patient needs to rest well. Please keep her out from any emotional swing.”

At that moment, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God she’s still alive.

Casting a last glance at Jessica on the operating table, Caspian’s gaze was extraordinarily despondent. Then, he turned and walked away in misery.

Staring at the disappearing figure, Larry heaved a sigh. So he chose to abandon Jessica in the end.

“Keep your voice down, Nancy.”

All of them surrounded Jessica’s bed and waited patiently for her to wake up.

“Why are you all here?” Suddenly, her eyes slowly fluttered open.

“Jessica, are you awake? How do you feel?” Joan caressed her hair gently with care.

Seconds later, she started weeping while her cry sounded utterly desperate. Everyone around understood her despair but did not know how to comfort her.

It took a moment before she finally stopped. “Alright, you guys, please go back and rest. I will be fine here. Don’t worry,” she said in a weak voice.

There was no way Joan would leave her alone in the hospital. The few of them discussed briefly and decided to let Joan stay to look after Jessica.

By this time, there were only Jessica and Joan left in the ward.

“What did Caspian tell you?” Joan asked without beating around the bush.

That *sshole. I’m sure he said something terrible that caused Jessica to end up in an accident.

Jessica turned away from her and looked out the window, her eyes filled with agony. Her heart twitched in pain whenever she thought of Caspian’s words.

“He said that I’m his ex-girlfriend,” Jessica answered faintly.

What? Hearing that, Joan jumped up in shock. That j*rk! How could he say something so irresponsible? Even if he really wants to break up, at least he should do it properly and respectfully!

Joan could not help but walk around the same spot in exasperation. No way! I need to have a talk with that bstard! Is he really going to be blinded by that btch his whole life? Everyone knows she’s a snake, but he treats her as an angel!

Right at that moment, Joan was increasingly agitated.

“Alright, Joan. Don’t get mad over this. What’s done was beyond repair.” Jessica let out a long sigh.

What do you mean by “beyond repair”? We just need to kick that b*tch out of the game, don’t we? Meanwhile, Joan has started to plan on a last-ditch effort.

If that young lady stays by Caspian’s side, who knows what trouble she is yet to create? Hold on a second. Why exactly is she into Caspian? His money? But Larry is way richer than him? Or his look? Give me a break, please. This doesn’t sound right. I bet she’s after something else.

At the thought of this, Joan furrowed her brows stressfully. She was worried that by the time Caspian found out he was being manipulated, there would be no turning back for him.

“Joan, what’s on your mind?” Jessica asked in a low voice.

“Huh? Nothing much. What do you want to eat? Let me buy for you,” Jessica answered softly.

“I would like some meatloaf, please,” Jessica replied shyly.

Indeed, meatloaf had always been her favorite food, as meatloaf always reminded her of her mother, especially in bad times.

Looking at Jessica, Joan was heartbroken. She knew the former must be having a tough time that she missed her mother.

“Sure, I’ll go grab some right now.” Upon saying that, Joan grabbed her purse and walked out of the ward.

The moment she stepped out of the hospital, she spotted Caspian, who was wandering anxiously at the entrance. Joan did not intend to greet him at all while she turned and walked in another direction.

Emptiness

“Joan! Um…How’s Jessica? Is she better?” Caspian sprinted over to Joan as soon as he noticed her.

How shameless is he to act as if he still cares for her? With that, Joan dissed him with resent.

“It doesn’t concern you no more. Just get lost! Not only Jessica, but all of us also don’t want to see you anymore!” Joan yelled in wrath.

It looks like they will never forgive me, just as expected. Jessica is such a great woman; yet, I have hurt her so badly.

“Joan, you must tell me if anything happens to her. Remember that,” Caspian continued to say.

What on earth is he expecting? What a shameless *sshole! Before he could utter another word, Joan walked faster and left him behind.

Ring! Ring! Suddenly, Caspian’s phone rang.

“Where have you been, Caspian? I missed you so much. I’m craving for some dumplings,” Lisa said on the phone.

“Got it. I’ll go buy some right away.”

After hanging up, Caspian slapped his forehead, trying to get a grip of himself.

Back in the ward, Jessica was staring out of the window, her expression extremely exhausted. I wonder what’s Caspian doing now? Is he together with Lisa? Tears started welling down her eyes again as she thought about him.

She had never imagined that their long destined journey had now come to a miserable end. All the wonderful memories with Caspian seemed like unrealistic jokes at the moment.

Maybe it’s time for me to let go. If I’m no longer in his heart, it will be meaningless for me to cling on to him.

“Here you are. Please eat while they’re still warm.” Joan rushed in excitedly to the ward but was stunned momentarily when she noticed Jessica’s teary face.

Just then, she knew the latter had fallen into depression again.

“Alright now. Stop overthinking. Here’s your favorite meatloaf.” Joan tried to cheer her up.

“Joan, tell me something. Why do men change so easily?” Jessica did not seem to let go of the matter.

In fact, not all men are like this. Joan lowered her head and said, “Actually, Caspian has his reasons.”

She doubted if it was the best time to touch on that, but she figured sometimes it was better to be honest.

“I know. Lisa’s pregnant.” Jessica answered before she could.

How did she find out? Who told her that? Joan stared at Jessica as she was confused.

“Actually, when I went to find you the last time, I overheard your conversation with Larry,” Jessica explained while eating her meatloaf.

So, she has long known about this. I shouldn’t have mentioned it with Larry! Joan bit her lips tightly, obviously regretting her previous unwise act.

“So what do you plan to do?”

What else can I do? Isn’t it obvious? Caspian has chosen her over me. However, I have no regret in loving him.

Gazing at Jessica’s decadent look, Joan felt as though a thousand needles were stabbing through her heart.

If Caspian leaves her because of her bad personality, that would be reasonable. But Jessica has the best personality, and not to mention her perfect look. Which part of her made her undeserved of his love? To be honest, he is the one who doesn’t deserve her!

“How’re you feeling? Better now?” Just then, Larry appeared at the door.

“Larry!” Jessica greeted right away. “I feel great. I should be able to go out in a few days.”

Looking at her relaxed expression, Larry let out a sigh of relief. It seems like she’s starting to let go of Caspian. Good.

Moving Out

Larry walked slowly over to the couch and sat down.

“Larry, there’s no need for you to visit me every day. Joan’s here, and she’s taking great care of me.” Jessica cast a grateful smile at Joan.

Yes, I’m sure she is. But I want to check on you myself. After all, you have no real family left in this world but me. I should look after you.

“Joan, Jessica is like our sister. It’s our responsibility to look after her.” Larry explained deliberately to Joan.

He wanted to assure Joan that his relationship with Jessica was nothing more than siblings.

“Sure. Don’t worry. I will make sure she’s fine.” Joan responded right away, as she understood Larry’s intention fully.

Staring at both of them, Jessica turned nosy. “That’s enough. Stop flirting in front of me, please.”

Joan was overcome with embarrassment in that instance.

Meanwhile, Larry cleared his throat and switched his tone. “So, what do you plan to do next?”

She must be devastated by Caspian’s decision.

“Larry, could you find a new place for me? I’m moving out. Don’t worry about me. I’m good to live alone,” Jessica replied faintly.

He sighed with a sense of gratification flashed before his eyes. I’m glad that she can think sensibly. Everything has been destined. It would be Caspian’s loss to miss such a great woman.

With that, they chatted for a while before he left the ward.

Clank! On the other side, a loud noise was heard coming from the living room.

“What’s this sh*t? It’s disgusting!” Lying on the couch, Lisa sounded utterly pissed.

“What’s wrong? Doctor says that your body is weak now, so you’ll need to drink some medicine.” Caspian rushed to her side and started comforting her.

“I don’t want that! Caspian, the medicine tastes awful.” Lisa grabbed Caspian’s hand in a spoiled manner.

“How can you not drink the medicine? It’s for your own good, and the baby too. You wouldn’t want the baby to be unhealthy, would you?” Caspian stated purposely.

Could you stop mentioning the baby? Is the baby the only reason that you have chosen to be with me?

Feeling utterly displeased, Lisa glared at the man before her with exasperation.

“You don’t love me at all!” Lisa yelled furiously.

As a matter of fact, she was right. The reason that Caspian chose to be with her was merely to compensate for his own mistake,

“Caspian, be honest with me. Are you still thinking about that sl*t?”

When did she become such an unreasonable woman? Feeling frustrated, Caspian kept scratching the back of his head.

“So it’s true! Then, you should go and see her! Isn’t she in the hospital right now? She’ll need a man to take care of her. Go be that man!” Right then, Lisa had lost her rationality completely.

“That’s enough!” At the same time, Caspian failed to suppress his emotions too. I’ve been tolerating your nonsenses, but you keep crossing the line!

“Are you going to drink the medicine or not? And do you still want the baby? If you keep being unreasonable, then go back to your mother’s house.” Caspian uttered coldly.

I’ve been pampering you and giving you the best, but I don’t think you appreciate it.

The woman was stunned at that instant.

“No, Caspian. I want to stay here.” Lisa’s attitude turned meek swiftly while she grabbed Caspian’s arm tightly.

One Million

“Then, please take good care of yourself, and don’t overthink. Make sure that the baby is born healthily.”

Upon hearing that, Lisa started weeping aggrievedly. After all, all he cares about is the baby!

“Caspian, I love you!” She hugged Caspian and kissed him on the forehead gently. But at that moment, Caspian could no longer feel any affection.

“Alright, I’ll bring some medicine later.”

Medicine again! Lisa nodded reluctantly while a cold look flickered past her face.

Ding! It was the sound of a message. Without hesitation, Caspian grabbed his phone to have a look, but his face turned grim at once.

“What is it?” Lisa snatched his phone quickly.

“Oh my! Caspian, who’s this? Why does he send you so much money?” The moment she saw the content, she could not hold back her excitement.

“It’s my boss. He has fired me.” Caspian lowered his head to hide his disappointment.

In fact, Larry had transferred one million to him. Undoubtedly, this was for the sake of their brotherly bond over the years.

One million! How much stuff can I buy with this money? No way! I must get my hand on it! With that, Lisa returned the phone to Caspian and then nestled in his arms, her expression extremely seductive.

“Caspian, it looks like your boss values you very much!” Lisa said while caressing Caspian’s chest gently.

“But I’m out of a job from now on,” Caspian responded miserably.

“One million will be enough for a long time.”

Little did Lisa know that what Caspian cared about was not the money. Caspian closed his eyes and kept rubbing his forehead despondently.

Soon, Larry had found Jessica a new place. Also, Jessica had been recovering well, and she got discharged from the hospital a few days later. After Caspian settled down with Lisa, he went to the hospital to visit Jessica, but she was long gone.

“Excuse me. May I know where the patient has gone?” Pointing at the ward, Caspian asked one of the nurses.

Hearing Caspian’s question, the nurse went on guard instantly.

In fact, Jessica had informed those nurses that someone might come to enquire about her whereabouts, and they were to keep a secret if that happened. Since her body had not fully recovered, the doctor or the nurses would routinely check on her at her new place. That was why she needed to reveal that information to them.

“I don’t know about that,” The nurse replied with an awkward smile.

He doesn’t seem like a bad man though! The nurse could not wrap her head about it. Nevertheless, she did not suspect much as she was merely fulfilling her obligation as told.

Staring at the empty ward, Caspian was in despair. He was left in the total blind about her discharge. Of course. I have no more right to know anything about her, have I?

“Caspian!” Lisa called out from a short distance away.

A dark expression loomed over her face when she saw Caspian’s dispirited look. He’s come to find Jessica, hasn’t he? Unfortunately, she has left.

Lisa slowly approached him and grabbed on his arm meekly.

“What’s wrong? Are you tired?” She gently wiped off the sweat on his forehead.

Indeed, he was exhausted from taking care of her in the past few days. He thought that she was a generous and considerate woman, but now he realized she faked all that.

If it was not for the sake of the unborn child, he would have left long ago.

“I’m fine. What did the doctor say?” Caspian put her hand down slowly and asked.

“The baby is fine, and all indicators are normal,” Lisa replied with complete satisfaction.

As long as the baby is fine, he will never leave me. No matter what happens, he would never abandon his own blood!
