However, she knew she could not, as she had yet discovered the most important secret.

The R10 they discussed had yet to be handed to her, and she thought it must be imperative.

Lily took a deep breath, calmed herself, and said blandly, "Oh, yeah? You never know because the experiment has yet to succeed.If even I fail, wouldn’t you guys be wasting your time? What can you achieve even if you kill me and my family and friends? You'll still fail miserably!"

Her words failed to rile up the man as he laughed scornfully.

He laughed maniacally, sending chills down Mike and Lily's spines.

"I think you overestimate yourself."

Lily clenched her fists and told herself inwardly that he was only trying to scare her.

‘How could one person destroy the whole world?’

"you can choose not to believe me, but you’ll see.Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you that the pandemic at Burnkwen is just a trial run.Even a small pandemic is enough to cause such havoc in every country worldwide.Do you seriously think I can’t cause something worse?"

He gave her an inquiring gaze but looked weird in such a posture.

Lily answered readily, "The task you've given me has nothing to do with your ultimate goal.I have no idea why you’re wasting my time here.As you said, we’re on a tight schedule.Shouldn't you hand me the task that truly matters? You’re the one stalling by giving me unimportant tasks," she said forcefully.

The man laughingly shook his head, then waved his index finger.

"No, no, no! Every project is important as each of them serves a different purpose.For example—"

"For example, numbing one’s nerves and causing someone to lose their volition? Or letting the virus invade human bodies and using the immune cells to attack the victims?" Lily interjected.

The man’s open mouth closed, and he smiled meaningfully.He spread his arms and said, "See? I knew we were on the same wavelength.You know very well what we’re trying to do!"

‘Same wavelength, my a*s!’ Lily wanted to tell him that, but she stopped herself.

"Since I do, then let me handle the toughest project.You’ve got my help, so let's not waste my time on other projects."

"Even if I were to change my mind, you don’t plan to free me, do you?"

Lily shook her head and chuckled mockingly.

The man did not answer and looked at Rhea.

Seemingly reluctant, Rhea met his eyes and hesitated momentarily before turning around and walking toward the safe beside the bookcase.

She crouched down, quickly punched in a series of numbers, and scanned her palm.

After turning the handle, the safe door clicked and opened.

Mike was somewhat astonished.

He had seen the safe inside the room but never saw the man taking anything from it, let alone knowing the passcode.

However, he could tell Rha knew everything about the safe from how she opened it.It meant that the man trusted Rhea much more than Mike.

Therefore, Mike was surprised Rhea knew the passcode to the safe.

As Rhea removed a slightly yellowed kraft paper bag from the inside and turned around, Lily saw a small jar inside.

However, before she could take a better look, Rhea shut the safe door.

The door made a crisp clicking sound and automatically locked when she shut it.

Rhea held the paper bag, turned to look at the two, and laughingly said, "You guys didn’t try to peek when I entered the passcode, did you?"

She was half-joking and half-serious.

Mike chuckled coldly.

"You blocked our view so carefully.Who could we have seen it?"

After a pause, he added, "Plus, the passcode to the lab changes daily.The passcode you use might be one-off."

When he said the last sentence, he looked at the "‘boss" to observe his reaction.

Rhea smiled.

"Hey, you’re right! You can only use it once."

The man leaned forward and held up five fingers while looking at Lily.

Mike wanted to object because five days were too short.

Rhea snorted a laugh.

"You think too highly of yourself."

Mike looked baffled.
