Ch. 1941..1950
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1941 -"Perhaps it’s a pathogen or something we don’t know about,"
Dominic murmured, his eyes shut, drained of all energy.
Meanwhile, the other two leaned over to listen intently since his voice was soft. However, although Dominic moved his lips slightly, no other words came out.
The two men exchanged puzzled looks and wondered if anything was wrong with their hearing.
"Uncle Dom, what did you say?" Austin asked again.
Dominic’s mouth moved, but no voice came out.
"He’s not saying anything," Alexander concluded.
At this moment, Dominic suddenly shut his mouth and stopped moving, seemingly falling into a stupor again.
After staring at him, Austin called out tentatively, "Uncle Dom? Uncle Dom!"
The older man gave no response.
"Seems like..."
Before Austin could finish, Dominic suddenly snapped his eyes open.
Austin was startled and quickly leaned over.
"Uncle Dom?"
Dominic looked dazed as if he had just woken up from sleep. Then he turned his gaze to Austin.
"You...brat!"
"Yes, it’s me!"
Knowing that Dominic might be unable to stay awake for too long, Austin quickly asked, "What should I do to help you?"
Dominic did not say anything and waved slightly.
"Uncle Dom?"
"Do...nothing!"
The older man’s head then drooped aside.
"Uncle Dom"
Austin called out alarmingly, then held Dominic's wrist to take his pulse. He initially looked grim but gradually unfurled his furrowed brow.
"How is he?" Alexander asked.
Austin looked up and replied, "He passed out."
In other words, Dominic had only lost consciousness temporarily, and his life was not in danger.
Still, Austin wondered how long his granduncle could cope with the symbiotes inside him, even if his life were not in danger.
‘We haven't devised a solution, and Dominic told us to do nothing. Is there genuinely nothing we can do to help?’
"How...should I help you?"
Austin looked at Dominic’s face and murmured to himself.
Alexander spoke gravely, "I think he’s trying to tell us not to do anything before determining what type of pathogens or symbiotes are inside your bodies. The less you do, the less mistakes you'll make."
"But..."
Austin was doubtful. He knew it was the truth but could not bear to sit and wait after seeing Dominic suffer constantly.
"No buts, okay? Your granduncle is right, and it’s best to listen to him.Unless, of course, you can devise a definitive solution," Alexander said as he patted Austin’s shoulder.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1942-Helpless, Austin lowered his head and appeared particularly dejected.
"We must have confidence in the old man," Alexander comforted him after noticing his gloomy mood.
"We also need to have confidence in ourselves."
"I'm not confident in myself."
However, Alexander's words did not seem to have any effect.
Austin turned around and stood up, walking straight to the window. He looked downstairs.
The initially quiet manor looked even more lifeless now.He remembered a few days ago when he tossed around in here.He even dismantled the balcony and destroyed many things.
Although Dominic scolded him, the older man still cleaned up after his grandnephew and cared for him.
Dominic did a lot for Austin, even if the former would never admit it.He also taught Austin everything he should.
Austin used to think his second granduncle was biased.
Later, Austin realized he was just overconfident. He was not capable enough, and Dominic had long seen through him.
Still, Dominic did not openly target his grandnephew— instead, Austin was the one who always had his head in the clouds.
Now, when Dominic needed help most, Austin could do nothing.
The latter even harmed Dominic because of his own actions.
With these thoughts in mind, Austin wished to jump out the window and exchange his life for Dominic’s.
However, Austin knew he could not.
Although he would free himself from condemnation by jumping, he wondered what would happen to his granduncle then.
‘What can Uncle Dom do with such a mess? What about my parents, grandfather, and the others who have gotten hurt because of my actions?’ Austin held the windowpane with both hands as he took a deep breath, forcing his tears back.He had not cried since he was a child. However, it seemed like Austin had shed all the tears he had not shed over these past few days.
‘L can’t continue living like this"
Although Dominic told him not to move around, he could not just sit and wait for things to happen. He knew he should consider the essential things and tend to the greenhouse.
After all, the rare and exotic plants needed his care.
These thoughts immediately triggered a spark in Austin as he turned to Alexander with a determined expression.
"You're right. We should be more confident in ourselves. They studied the virus, but so what? I refuse to believe there’s a virus in this world we can’t overcome, especially artificial ones.Even if it's a symbiote, there must be a way to destroy it."
He slowly clenched his fingers as if he were talking to Alexander and himself.
"We can't admit defeat and let them win.We will never lose to them!"
Alexander noticed Austin’s determination and knew the latter had pulled himself together.
Alexander nodded lightly.
"You're right. The word ‘defeat’ isn’t in my dictionary."
The two men, who were mere acquaintances, reached a consensus.
Regardless of whether one knew any medical skills or if one was good at it, one must try their best to protect those one cared about.
Austin stood up straight and looked at Alexander.
"By the way, what's happening on Lily's side?"
"Huh?"
"Sorry, it's just that I overheard you on the phone once.Isn't Lily in a dangerous situation now?"
Although Austin did not ask much, he had heard a lot.
In addition, Lily never showed up despite everything happening there. It meant she had more important things to do.
Considering the current situation, nothing could be more important than the mysterious and evil organization they had to destroy immediately.
Alexander did not mind that Austin had eavesdropped. It was not like Alexander did not know Austin was around during the conversation.
However, Alexander did not need to tell Austin what he and his wife said on the phone.
"She's fine," Alexander answered after a moment of thought.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1943-"Hm? Are you sure?" Austin asked despite himself.
Although he did not have a good relationship with Lily, he was still concerned for her.
Moreover, he had escaped that place with great difficulty and knew what kind of hellhole that place was.
However, Alexander had lightly said Lily was okay, making Austin wonder if Alexander did not love her enough or if he felt at ease with her being at the organization.
Austin also suspected that Alexander might not know how dangerous it was there.
"No, Alexander, I don't think you understand.Although you've been exposed to these viruses and know about the organization, you can't imagine how dangerous the organization is.They are devils who feed on people, and that place is a real-life hell.
"Heck, it might be even scarier than hell itself!" Austin gushed anxiously, afraid Alexander was not worried enough about Lily's safety.
"I think it would be best for you to find a way to get Lily out of there as soon as possible. Also—"
Alexander interjected before Austin could finish, "When I say she's fine, I mean it.She's still safe, at least for now."
"But..."
Austin was startled and wanted to question further, but Alexander did not give him a chance.
"Of course, you know how scary it is.Trust me.Lily knows more than you do.After all, she was a part of the laboratory when the experiment started long ago when they secretly lurked underground.Although she did not know the true nature of the experiments then, she stayed there for quite some time.
‘On top of that, the laboratory needed her, not to mention Mike and.."
Alexander was sure his wife knew more about what was happening inside than Austin.
Of course, Alexander would worry.
Still, everyone had their roles to play, and Alexander could not just drop everything and sit around worrying about her.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I believe in her and my ability to protect her," Alexander said with a slight smile.
Just a look from him made Austin immediately swallow his words.
‘Yeah, they've been together for so long. They must know better.Maybe I'm just overthinking things"
Austin was anxious and worried because of his subconscious fear of that place.
He was frightened, scared to recall his days there alongside the suffering and torment he experienced.
Therefore, when he read ancient medical books, scary images of his bodily changes, pain, and terrifying scars on his granduncle’s body would always fill his mind.
These things made Austin tremble with fear and terror, causing him to become timid and subconsciously seek to escape or compromise. However, Lily, a 6-month pregnant woman, could face it bravely while Austin almost collapsed and gave up—the thought of that humiliated him.
"I understand," he added, "I'm returning to work.Thank you for these few days."
"You're welcome," Alexander replied lightly.
Besides Lily's relationship with Dominic, Alexander did everything because Dominic had cared for Galen for so long.
Alexander thought this was the least he could do.
Thinking of Galen, Alexander glanced at Dominic on the bed again.
When he noticed the older man was just asleep and seemed relatively stable for the time being, he left the room and closed the door gently.
Everyone was swamped in the laboratory.
However, there were two figures in the innermost room.
Lily sat on the stool with her body slightly turned as she took notes with one hand while tapping on the computer occasionally.
On the other side, Rhea stood there, holding a tray with both hands. She wore a heavy protective suit, and her eyes under the mask narrowed as she stared at Lily.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1944-It was rare for the two to be together harmoniously in the same room, but no one spoke.
After all, the data, numbers, and liquids in the various bottles and jars were the most important things here.
Still, Rhea felt resentful.
Moreover, the "boss" had been missing for a day, yet there was still no news about him.
‘I don't care about the boss's well-being, but I know this was all Lily's idea.Yet, she can just sit here peacefully.Plus, Rick, who seems cold, also treats her differently. Why is that?!’ Rhea genuinely could not understand what people in the organization saw in Lily and why they treated this woman so differently.
She pursed her lips tightly and did not speak, swallowing her dissatisfaction and unhappiness.
‘There are just a few days left.I'll just wait and see what tricks Lily can come up with. Will she succeed? Even if she does, she'll never figure out this experiment'’s final step"
On the contrary, Lily did not have as many thoughts as Rhea.
The former sat there, focused on the numbers on the computer while occasionally flipping through her notes and looking at the previous records.
It was as if she had blocked all distractions and wholeheartedly devoted herself to the experiment.
Everyone outside had already left as time passed, but only the two remained.
Rhea's hands were already sore, and she could no longer hold the tray.
However, Lily mentioned they needed to maintain stillness and keep the temperature constant to obtain stable data on the fragrance.
The two did all their experiments like this.
Therefore, Rhea could only reluctantly listen to her.
Now that she was Lily's assistant, she had to comply with all of Lily’s requests.
However, she suspected Lily was just pulling her legs.
Despite that, Rhea was only a laity since she had no evidence or know anything about fragrances.
Rhea had secretly tried studying this.
After all, how the organization treated Lily in a different light genuinely irritated Rhea.
Lily only had one more skill over Rhea.
The latter was not worse than Lily regarding medicine.
Rhea only lacked knowledge of fragrance formulation, so she thought she could just study hard to compensate for the knowledge gap.She thought if Lily could do it, so could she.
However, reality gave her a hard slap in the face.
Perfumery was not as simple as Rhea imagined.
Firstly, distinguishing the various raw materials had already made her dizzy. She spent a week vomiting after. She never expected fragrances to make her puke.
Afterward, Rhea no longer bothered trying.
Instead, she felt nauseous whenever she saw those things.
Perfumery was not something one could learn overnight.
Even if she managed, it would be no use.
She did not have time for all this and ultimately gave up.
So, at this moment, she could only stand here and help Lily hold the tray and do as the latter said.
Rhea's hands were so sore that she could no longer hold on.
Just as she rolled her eyes, she heard the beeping sound of the instrument.
‘It's complete!’
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1945 -"It's complete!" Rhea exclaimed a little too excitedly.
However, before she could take a look, Lily glanced back at her and said, "Don't move."
Rhea immediately fell silent.
The most exasperating thing for her was that she had subconsciously obeyed Lily's instructions.
"Lily, don't make a mountain out of a molehill,"
Rhea complained angrily, "Do you honestly think you're so great? Let me tell you something. If this experiment fails, nothing good will happen to you."
"We'll only know that once I fail," Lily said calmly with a slight smile, "What's wrong? Are you hoping I’ll fail?"
"How do I..."
Before Rhea could finish speaking, she noticed Lily had already gotten up and walked toward the instrument.
Lily turned off the switch unhurriedly and took out a few small vials to place them on the shelf next to her.
Rhea became nervous as she looked at the clear liquid inside and the data on the computer frantically refreshed. She fixed her eyes on the screen unblinkingly, while Lily seemed indifferent.
Lily stood up and paced around the room unhurriedly. She had sat for too long and needed to stretch her muscles. Her body had grown stiff after experimenting for such a long time.
The numbers on the computer finally stopped, and the word 100% finally flashed across the screen.
All the shaded parts overlapped completely, and the red area flashed.
Rhea exclaimed in shock, "It's a success!"
Lily heard her voice and stopped to turn and look at the numbers on the computer. She did not look excited.
Instead, she looked a little surprised, as if she did not expect to succeed or wanted it to succeed.
"It's a success! It's a success!" Rhea was very excited.
Although she did not like Lily nor wanted her to succeed, it was natural for an experimenter to feel a sense of joy when an experiment finally succeeded.
They had conducted this experiment countless times for a long time, and Rhea had participated since they started doing it abroad.
The organization constantly changed locations, looking for new opportunities and constantly trying.
However, every attempt failed without exception.
Rhea never thought Lily would succeed.
‘Why did she succeed and not me?! She knows traditional medicine, but so do I.Plus, I know about modern medicine, too"
Rhea thought she was also better than Lily in viral research.
‘So what if Lily knows about traditional medicine? Why is a woman who knows about flowers and plants better than those who specialize in medical research?’ Still, Rhea was excited and happy about this success. She ignored Lily's order not to move and took a few steps forward. She bent down and stared at the computer screen as if wanting to see something different.
Even so, the display on the computer remained the same.
The experiment was indeed a success.
Rhea was in a situation she had never been in before. She wanted to laugh but could not.She looked rather conflicted.
"It's a success.It genuinely is.Lily, did you actually succeed?!"
Rhea felt drowned in mixed feelings. She turned to look at Lily and no longer stared at the latter with hostility.
Instead, Rhea looked surprised, excited, and maybe a little jealous.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1946-Rhea had never been jealous of anyone else besides Anastasia.
However, she only felt that way as a child and desired attention. She felt her mother had treated Anastasia better than her and wondered why her parents favored Anastasia in her own home.It honed Rhea’s feelings of dissatisfaction and unfairness.
Still, she was no longer a little girl who yearned for her parents’ love but an independent and confident woman.
Rhea had always considered herself strong, capable, and somewhat of a prodigy. She knew she would make significant career progress and impress the world with her knowledge.
However, this experiment’s repeated failure frustrated her.
Since the organization insisted on onboarding Lily, she had subconsciously hoped Lily would fail.
Everyone encountered obstacles when conducting this experiment, so Rhea thought Lily should not be an exception.
However, reality gave Rhea a hard blow, letting her know she was not as special as she thought.
But now, she had gotten slapped in the face again and still suffered a setback.
The truth was before her eyes, even if she did not want to believe it.
Lily had succeeded.
Rhea looked back at Lily, noticing her face remained neutral, even slightly unhappy.
Meanwhile, Lily walked over unhurriedly and put one hand on her waist as she glanced at the computer.
"Oh, I guess it is."
"What do you mean you guess it is?!"
Rhea jumped up.
"Lily Christian, drop the act! It’s just a fluke! Why are you so proud of it?!"
Rhea was already feeling terrible and got angry when she heard what Lily said.
If Rhea had succeeded instead, she would have told the world and let everyone know her masterpiece was a success, framing it as her achievement.
However, Lily was calm about it.
‘Why is she so pretentious?!’ To Rhea, it seemed Lily was doing this purposefully to show this success was effortless. Many had worked hard for so long, yet none succeeded.Still, Lily had seemingly messed around and succeeded.Initially, Rhea was thrilled that the experiment was successful, but she could not help but sneer when she saw Lily's attitude.
"You don't have to be so proud. No one has succeeded in this experiment so far.
"Even if the data on the computer shows it's successful, who can guarantee there won't be any instability, fluctuations, or changes later on? You can regard this current success as a real one." Rhea said these things out of anger.
She knew the experiment had come a long way, and for them to achieve this result was a great success.
As for the instability and possible problems, no one knew whether or not they would happen.
Nothing might even happen.
For now, they could consider the experiment a success.
Still, Rhea’s mockery did not trigger Lily.
Instead, Lily even nodded and agreed.
"You're right."
"Huh?!"
Rhea assumed Lily was only acting calm but celebrated inwardly, so she ignored what Rhea said.
Rhea gritted her teeth and stepped forward. She looked at Lily and spat, "I’m saying you can’t consider your experiment a success. It's unsuccessful until you've seen it through to the end!"
Lily turned her head slowly to look at Rhea.
She seemed calm, with no signs of joy or doubt.
Instead, she nodded thoughtfully and said, "I said you're right."
Her agreement infuriated Rhea even more.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1947 -“I can’t consider this experiment a complete success,” Lily said lightly. Her reaction was so bizarre that Rhea did not know what to say. She wondered why Lily did not react how she typically would.
As Rhea remained stunned, she overheard Lily say, ‘ Didn’t I tell you not to move?”
That one sentence immediately returned Rhea to her senses. She took it as an outlet to vent her emotions and ruthlessly threw the tray aside. The contents on the tray clinked and knocked into one another.
“Why can’t I move? What temperature are you talking about? You’re toying with me! Who knows, you might’ve cheated on this experiment too?!” Rhea’s arm was sore from holding the tray. Plus, Lily’s reaction was unexpected, making Rhea both angry and jealous. As a result, she spat out a string of incoherent words.
Then Lily’s answer almost sent her off the handle. Lily nodded and seriously said, “You’re right. I’m just pulling your leg.”
Rhea was speechless.
‘There’s no such thing as constant human body temperature. You’ve studied medicine for so long and have done many experiments. How could you not know we can adjust temperatures at will?
“We could’ve created a vacuum environment, too, so why should I need an actual person to keep the temperature constant?” Lily’s rhetorical question left Rhea speechless.
Although Rhea doubted Lily’s words, she knew nothing about perfumery. Hence, she only did as Lily said. After all, the organization had put more importance on Lily than Rhea. So, Rhea had to endure Lily to continue working for the organization and be involved in this project.
However, at this moment, Lily’s solemn questioning made her look stupid. Rhea wondered how she could have been so oblivious and gullible. She could not help but retort, “But you said-“
Unexpectedly, Lily interrupted her, “So, you’ll believe everything I say? If I said you have a low IQ and aren’t suitable to stay here, let alone study medicine, would you have believed me?”
Rhea was so angry that she almost slapped Lily. However, she held back because Lily had hurt her twice before, so she let the thought flash in her mind but did not take action. Instead, Rhea stood rooted with clenched fists. She stared at Lily fiercely, wishing to kill the latter with her eyes.
Meanwhile, Lily did not care. She smiled and continued provoking Rhea,* You’re so silly. You’ve studied medicine almost all your life but don’t even know something so simple? I tricked you into believing me.
“Also, you couldn’t even complete such a simple experiment. What’s the point of your studies? You should try being a waitress instead. I think you’re pretty good at holding trays.”
Every word she said was a jab at Rhea. At this point, Rhea’s fear of Lily’s kickboxing skills could no longer hold her back. Lily’s jabs hit her weak spots, and the unabashed mockery profoundly undermined Rhea’s self- esteem.
She had always been proud and arrogant, thinking she was brilliant. However, her continuous failures had already dealt a blow to her. With Lily’s added mockery, Rhea finally lost it. She could no longer bear it and viciously threw her clenched fist toward Lily.
“Stop!”
A cold yell stopped Rhea’s movement in mid-air. She froze and subconsciously hung her hand in the air. She snapped away from her almost out-of-control consciousness and abruptly returned to her senses.
She turned around and saw Rick and Mike entering the laboratory. Then she hurriedly put down her fist and reported, ‘The experiment is a success.” “I know.” Rick’s reaction was dull. It seemed like he already knew.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1948-Rick glanced over quietly, looking at Lily beside him.
"If the experiment is successful, why didn't you second it?"
Lily looked disappointed as she leaned back and moved her wrist around.
"I just finished, and we can consider it completely successful."
"What do you mean by that?" Rick questioned suspiciously with a frown.
"After all, these are just computer data.I haven't verified if there will be any errors. On top of that, I can't guarantee the end product's stability. Therefore, I can’t completely regard it as successful,"
Lily sighed and said, "It's not a success."
"You..."
Rhea had said those words just now, and Lily used them to explain things to Rick.
Rhea did not understand what was going through Lily's mind.
‘As researchers, aren’t we supposed to hope for successful results when experimenting? The joy in a successful experiment is indescribable"
Rhea would not be standing there calmly if she had succeeded.
Instead, she would be shouting it from the rooftops. She initially thought Lily was deliberately mocking her and behaved as such.
However, Lily repeated Rhea’s words to Rick.
‘Does she already know what the experiment's final step is?’
"Really?" Rick asked.
"If you don't believe me, ask her,"
Lily solemnly replied as she gestured toward Rhea.
Rhea was speechless.
Faced with Rick's fierce gaze, she subconsciously gulped and said, "Yes, such a possibility exists.Still, I think we can consider the experiment successful at this stage."
She did not know why Lily would push the responsibility on her like that, but she had no choice but to explain herself. She could not say the experiment was unsuccessful with the current progress.
"That's not what you said just now,"
Lily said with a look of surprise, "We must be rigorous in our experiments. You should know even a little deviation will cause a huge difference. As you said, I haven't seen how stable or how it'll perform, so we can consider this a complete success.I think you're right."
Rhea finally realized Lily was trying to frame her on purpose.
Lily’s words made it sound like Rhea had suggested such things because she was simply jealous of Lily.
"No, that's not it! I wasn't thinking clearly just now.I've thought it through. We've done so many experiments before, and they all failed. It’s the first time it reached this point. The experiment is successful.Lily, your experiment was a success!"
The last sentence was tough for Rhea to say.
However, she could not let others assume she was discrediting the experiment's results out of jealousy.
Therefore, she would much rather bow and give in.
"No, no, I still think what you said makes sense," Lily continued to refute.
‘What kind of demon is this woman?!’ Rhea wanted to shut her up, but a second later, Rick said, "
Enough! I don’t care how stable it is or how it'll perform.
It’s a success based on current results! "Don't forget.I told you I want a result today, whether a failure or a success. Are you sure you want to give me a failed result?" He asked in a deep voice.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1949-Rick's voice was cold, and the temperature in the room seemed to have dropped several degrees.
Rhea shrank her shoulders. Mike, on the sidelines, hurried forward to smooth things over. “Lily, don’t be too hard on yourself. Since everyone thinks this experiment is a success, it must be successful. You've done a great job. No one could do this until now.”
Then he turned to Rick and continued, “I believe the higher- ups must be anxiously waiting. Now isn’t the time to argue about this. Anyway, let’s submit the experimental results to them first. What do you think?”
Rick seemed to have loosened up after hearing what Mike said. He turned to look at the tubes on the shelf beside him, then glanced at the computer again. “It’s those, right?”
Before Lily could speak, Rhea quickly responded, “Yes, those are the ones. I'll pack them right away.”
She feared Lily would say something untimely, so she took the lead. Lily watched from the side and did not move a muscle. She observed Rhea seal the tubes carefully and put them in a proper container.
“Done.” Rhea handed the packed box to Rick. Rick took it and glanced at Lily again. “Do you have anything else to say?”
She shrugged indifferently. “I have nothing to say, just one thing...”
“What is it?” He narrowed his eyes slightly.
“It was you who insisted this experiment was a success. If something goes wrong later, or the effect is unexpected, you can't blame it on me. After all, I never said this experiment is successful.” Lily seemed eager to shrink responsibility.
Her attitude made the others suspicious. It seemed like there might be something wrong with the products, and it did not succeed. That was why she was eager to shift the blame and absolve herself of responsibility.
“It's your experiment. Whether it succeeds or not, you can't escape responsibility!” Rick said coldly, obviously disagreeing with her statement.
“Hey, how can you say that? Now, you're just trying to sabotage me,” Lily protested unhappily.
Rick sneered. “Drop the act. Come with me!”
“Go with you? Where are we going?” Lily lazily asked as she blinked innocently at him and shook her arms. “I've been doing this experiment for so long. I’m tired. Now that everything is a success, I can finally rest! I think you should go yourself. I won't accompany you.” With that said, she smiled and walked away.
However, Rick grabbed her arm as she walked past. “You can't leave.”
“What?”
Meanwhile, Rhea and Mike looked at Rick in puzzlement, not understanding what he meant.
Mike said despite himself, “Rick, you—”
Before he could finish, Rick shot him a stern look, and Mike immediately stopped talking.
The look in Rick’s eyes was too cold and stern, like a glacier. Mike suddenly realized the situation seemed to have gone beyond their expectations. He did not know what Rick would do but vaguely felt it was not good.
“It’s none of your business. You two can rest. If you're that bored, you can look for Spades King. As for you...” Rick looked at Lily. “You have to follow me.”
“Why should I go with you? I’ve finished what you asked of me and must go home. You promised me that—”
Rick interjected, “Whatever promises you discuss are made with Spades King. It has nothing to do with me or the organization. If you want, you can talk to him or...find him first.”
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1950 -Rick laughed with a sinister smile that sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
Lily was shocked. “So, you’re dismissing it? Is this just a scam?!’’
She wanted to shake him off but soon realized his technique was unique. Rick did not use much force, but Lily could not break free because of his special stance. Although Lily’s arm did not hurt, she still could not shake him.
Considering his skills, Lily might have to fight for an hour to beat him. Of course, that was if she was her former self. Lily could not beat him with her current stature. Up until this point, she realized she had underestimated the enemy.
With her kickboxing background and profound knowledge, she was confident she could easily defeat any ordinary fighter, even if pregnant. She believed she could easily handle the situation. However, she never expected the evil organization to have expert kickboxers like Rick in addition to firearms.
She feared brute force would not work. Ultimately, she sighed and said,” Okay, I’ll listen to you. I’ll try to look for Spades King.”
‘Why does the boss have such a nickname?’
‘You can’t go. Only they can go look for him.” Rick fixed his eyes on her the whole time, his hand still gripping her wrist.
“Okay, you two, go ahead then.” Lily had no choice but to obey. She simultaneously winked at Mike.
Although Mike was anxious, he had no choice but to say, “We must find a way to get the boss back as soon as possible.”
Rick snorted softly and did not seem to care very much. He carried the box in one hand and held Lily with another as he walked away.
Lily staggered behind him and complained, “At least let me change out of the protective suit first. Where are you taking me? Are you bringing me to meet your boss? Aren’t the people in your organization supposed to be…”
Her rare babbling became increasingly distant, but Rick remained silent and said nothing more. When the footsteps disappeared, Mike and Rhea exchanged blank looks of dismay.
Rhea looked at the numbers and pictures on the computer and pressed one hand on the table with an indescribable feeling in her heart.
Mike asked, “What’s wrong? Are you still dissatisfied?”
“Hmph!” She turned away and ignored his taunt.
Just a moment later, she could not help but mumble to herself. “Why?! What’s the basis of it?! I’ve worked so hard. I thought I’d worked hard enough!”
She looked at her hands reluctantly. She had worked hard to continuously learn since joining this organization. She worked harder than others and thought that she was a genius. After all, no one noticed Anastasia’s chronic poisoning for a long time.
Rhea even controlled Cameron like a puppet at one point. However, this experiment she had put the most painstaking effort into gave her the most significant blow.
‘Why do I repeatedly fail even after trying so hard?! How did Lily succeed in such a short time?!’
